Reviews of The Outhouse
S. A.
Cool atmosphere and very cheap drink for Edinburgh standards - they had a £3 deal for a pint of Guinness in January. I'm sure the beer garden would be class during the summer. Unfortunately I think the pub had been affected by the enormous gas prices at the moment because the heating wasn't on and the pub was absolutely freezing, so we left early and it would put me off going back. I noticed others also wearing jackets indoors and leaving quite quickly.
H. C.
Great, inclusive place with friendly and helpful staff! Loved this drumstick cocktail and good selection of Gins.Forgot to post my review back in July, I was here with my husband on our anniversary- but will definitely make my way here next time I’m through in Edinburgh! Thanks again guys :)
S. D.
Found this lovely little place thanks to Edinburgh Cocktail Week. Safe to say we will definitely be back. Staff were so friendly and welcoming and the cocktail was the best I had all day.
K. H.
Great little bar, reasonably priced drinks and super friendly staff! Nice selection of beers and cocktails on offer too!
M. F.
Fantastic, welcoming and friendly bar tucked away in the city centre. An absolute hidden gem of Edinburgh with one of the best beer gardens in town. Great cocktails and a cracking bar team.
Pop it on your list when visiting the city. 👏🏼
D. M.
The beer garden is quite nice, I just wished some of their bench tables weren't so small. They don't serve food but they don't mind if you get food delivered in, which is quite useful! If you like beer, this is definitely not a bad chill out spot.
S. C.
Fantastic venue and wonderful service. Felt very safe and looked after and staff could not have been more helpful. Good value for money and fantastic beer garden if you prefer to sit out side. Lovely bottle of fizz too.
E. H.
A fantastic inclusive venue right in the centre of Edinburgh. Having been here for numerous Eurovision parties as held by friends in their bookable communal space its never been anything short of fantastic. The beer garden in particular is a great space when the weather permits, but even when the Scottish weather comes along it's still a great spot to relax and listen to the elements under a brolly and next to the heater. A bit of a hidden gem being tucked down Broughton Street Lane but most certainly a gem indeed and is certainly worthy of a visit!
S. F.
Great pub. Wide range of beers and always service with a smile. Very friendly and welcoming. Decent venue for couples or groups of friends. And a bonus ball of a good sized beer garden. 5 star
A. M.
Hired the upstairs room for a private function. Outhouse outstandingly helpful. Have sound system and projector, and provided bar staff. Highest recommendation without hesitation.
a.
Great atmosphere and friendly, attentive staff. Love the art, frescoes and the music. The beer garden is a walled in courtyard, away from the hussle and traffic. A hidden gem that many don't know is there. LGBTQI+ positive place.
R. S.
Nice pint of cider and very friendly bar staff, will definitely be back 👍
A. C.
Had a great time mixing with nice people. Staff friendly and helpful.
L. A.
Great hidden courtyard, particularly good on a warm day as its generally quieter than the more well known beer gardens. Drinks are well priced and place has a relaxing & casual atmosphere.
P.
A welcome for a solo visitor. The service was excellent, even though we were outside because of the restrictions. It was a lively place to enjoy a refreshment with others glad to be out after months of being cooped up. It was a fine touch too to be thanked for the visit as you were leaving. I will be happy to return.
S. M.
Visited for my birthday - my first time at The Outhouse and the staff were so friendly and atmosphere was great! We decided to sit in the beer garden as there were outdoor heaters and covered seating! I'll definitely be back again :)
J. P.
One of my favourite bars in Edinburgh. Friendly and welcoming, with excellent bar staff, great atmosphere, and only the very best clientele! Keep up the good work, guys.
S.
Fantastic bar with an outside area and function room. Fab music, with superb DJs at the weekend. Lovely staff and a great selection of drinks. Highly recommended!
Q. G.
The Outhouse has a wonderful inviting atmosphere and some of the most friendly, attentive staff I have ever encountered.
The ambience here is just so perfect, I could easily spend all day here.
They also have a fab beer garden/courtyard area for those sunnier days we sometimes have.
Defo one of Edinburgh’s hidden gems, that until recently even I didn’t know was there.
and …
it’s an LGBTQI+ positive place that put’s #PrideOverPounds.. so in my opinion that means they are well worth a visit !
K. M.
The Outhouse can be found down a little lane off Broughton Street. A contemporary bar with a cool industrial feel to it combined with simple materials. There's also a beer garden. Every 2nd Wednesday the private space upstairs is used for 'Live @ The Loft - Songwriter Circle', now in its fifth year. A lounge feel, this small, laid back and cosy space has seen some of the best original music around: rare performance of up and coming artists and a true 'listening room' experience.
S. W.
Did an event in their upstairs room. Very nice people. Accomodating. Good beer.
B. C.
One of Edinburgh’s hidden gems smack bang in the middle of the Pink Triangle. Great bar, great music, lovely beer garden but most importantly - great staff and a fun liberal crowd.
D. C.
Great venue. A very welcoming and safe space. Will return again and again, for the great food, fantastic drinks and brilliant service. Thank you guys for all that you do! 🏳️🌈⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
E. B.
Always felt very comfortable as a queer person attending events here. Thank you to the Outhouse for championing diversity and helping create spaces for queer performers.
T. H. S.
Great place to drink. Staff helpful, had to have a seat inside but staff worked round bookings to get us a table outside. Recommended.
S. R.
I can go from my desk at work to having a pint in my hand in under 3 minutes. I've missed this place over lockdown and am looking forward to enjoying their inclusive atmosphere again soon with my work pals.
A. C.
Good selection of beers, friendly staff and one of Edinburgh's best beer gardens. No food though so make sure you line your stomach before you go
S. C.
The Outhouse is a nice wee bar who refuses to pander to The Scottish Family Party. Google them, they're evil and appear to be wannabe republicans in Scotland, what a riddy :'D
5 stars for the Outhouse's wee party venue that ye can hire too! *ThumbsUp*
L. M.
Wonderful wee bar with fantastic service! All staff have been extremely helpful and the service has been amazing. Would recommend to anyone :)
j. h.
Really nice venue, all the staff were lovely and friendly expect one of the staff... Slightly larger guy with long blonde hair was very creepy and drunk.
A. S.
My favourite bar in Edinburgh, been going for years. Staff are always amazing and such a great, friendly atmosphere.
F. H.
What an absolute gem, a hidden beer garden and fantastic staff...!!
J. M.
Lovely wee hidden spot, just on the outskirts of the main Edinburgh city centre pub traffic! Enjoyed a good few hours in the sun, with some tasty and affordable beer 😍
C. P.
Great outdoor space. It really is a wee gem hidden away. Lovely atmosphere and welcoming staff.
N. C.
Decent outdoor space so room for all. Decent selection of drinks on offer and all covid restrictions were being followed. Lacking atmosphere due to no music but hopefully it'll be back soon.
K. F.
Great spot with a heated patio outside. Two bars with the option of hiring the upstairs as performance space, which has a cozy atmosphere without being too small. Very reasonable prices but cherry on the top was the friendly and helpful staff. Will definitely be back!
C. B.
The staff are great, drinks well priced given the location, and the outside seating area is just great. A true gem.
T. D. S. M. &. H. C.
Great wee bar hidden near the city centre
V. L.
We've been going to the outhouse for years as regular punters and always had a great evening, recently we hosted our first charity event in their upstairs function room and they were amazing! Can't thank you guys enough for your efforts on Friday night! Would highly recommend to anyone either looking for a relaxed drink with excellent staff in a lovely spot or to anyone looking to hire a function room, these guys are wonderful. Big thank you and wish us luck on our charity hike in September! Vicky and Sarah.
J. M.
Nice pub nestled right in the middle of Broughton St Ln which had a fun atmosphere. Staff are extremely friendly! Only downside was the floor was extremely sticky in the hall up the stairs but that is not so unusual for a pub but irritating nonetheless.
K. M.
One of the best beer gardens in the city! Just recently(after covid with new staff etc) the service has gotten SLOW. previously a year or two ago it was so damn fast you thought you got someone else's pint haha and it just feels like such a dramatic shift in time, I'm talking multiple times waiting 30 minutes for a beer, it hurts.
K. K.
Great hidden beer garden, friendly staff! Definitely going again for a pint or two!
L. A.
Other than the smell of urine when you walk in, this place is OK. Decent beers on draught, like Leith's Pilot, and beer seems quite cheap.
We enjoyed the beer garden as it was a warm night, but we all had to cram back inside at 10pm, which made us want to move on.
L. N.
Great bar with reasonably priced pints and good service. The beer garden is covered and heated which is a bonus!
K. I.
We had a joint birthday, the staff are amazingly helpful and friendly, the function room is a good size and you can bring your own tunage, decent prices, great selection of beers and spirits, and there's a beer garden for antisocial smelly smokers ☺️ 5 star bar.
L. P.
Superb staff, service and great atmosphere.
A wee gem of a place.
Tip the staff people, it's table service, tip more.
L. F.
Wonderful staff, owners and management. Great bar, great atmosphere and so very welcoming 🏳️🌈
E. B.
Got seated straight away. Large outdoor area, with heaters and parasol. Friendly staff, loving the old tunes.
S. v. (.
Great bar, hidden away to avoid all the passing eejits in town. Attracts a really great, varied bunch of folks and has brilliant faciliites. The room upstairs is great for a party or event, and the yard out the back is BBQ Central when the weather is nice.
Coupled with a fine selection, great staff and decent prices - there's not much more to ask for!
L. S.
Great place, good beers, great beer garden! A brilliant LGBTQI+ venue 🏳️🌈🏳️🌈
H. M.
Hidden gem of a beer garden in a great central location which is rare for Edinburgh. Good beer on tap, you can bring outside food, the staff are friendly.
A. V.
The outhouse is a very well kept secret. Its beer garden is lovely in the summer months when its upstairs venue is also used for festival shows. Decent selection of drinks and very nice friendly staff.
S. M.
Nice little pub. The atmosphere was good and for Edinburgh the prices were actually relatively cheap.
The only issue I have with it is if it's busy and the beer garden is closed it can get a bit warm and stuffy.
H. C.
I great place, super inclusive and a comfortable environment for everyone, providing they aren't individuals making life uncomfortable for others. 100% would visit again.
G. H.
Chilled bar, great service, choice of drinks and dog friendly beer garden
M. v.
Outhouse is a little surprise bar that keeps on giving. What looks like a very unpretentious wee bar from the outside, turns out to be a cool and hip bar inside, with plenty of seats, space and even an outside garden!!!!! a whole friendly atmosphere takes over the place, good selection of beers and some tunes on the background.being hidden away from the main road and the tourist route, the outhouse gathers good local banter and a friendly vibe.
H. M.
Great boozy bar for nights with pals and awesome tunes. One of the best beer gardens in town when they have the bbq out and the music cranked. Not so great for a quiet drink (even if the bar is not in its pre-club pumping mode) as the drinks are not actually that great (beers just about ok, wine quite bad, cocktails too sweet and overpriced) but that's not the point of the Outhouse!
S. L.
Nice pub, but way too hot in winter. The metal plate on the exit was hot to the touch! Had chess boards in the tables but no pieces behind the bar. A decent place for a pint but not amazing.
S. M.
Excellent venue, wonderful staff. The atmosphere is great 👍 would visit again!!
s. C.
What a great bar. Fantastic beer garden and quality staff. Off the beaten track, but well worth it.
A. W.
Very good bar, hidden from the main crowds. Beer garden is a hit and it's dog friendly, so it's always a pleasure to hang out here.
P. G.
Great service, lovely staff, cosy urban beer garden.
F. H.
Very easy-going place to hire a function room. The manager left us to it, there was no minimum spend required for me to get my deposit back, and it's got a nice big beer garden for sunny days.
M. f.
Good beer very cheap in comparison to the all the pubs near by. Staff are friendly and helpful. And if it's ever sunny in Scotland omits out door area is nice.
L. M.
Pretty nice little venue. Spent most of my team upstairs with a private function but thoroughly enjoyed the venue and would think about returning even if just for one drink.
J. F.
Nice, relaxed place for a drink (good selection of draft and the cocktails looked great!). Really impressed by handling of COVID regulations too!
A. B.
Very friendly staff service great and spot on with track and trace and the beer was first class will be back great outdoors space
T. M.
Great place to grab a drink near the Omani Center. With a very good selection of beers of tap, grab a pint and hang out in the beer garden/terrace outback. Definitely one of my go to's on this side of town.
S. B.
Lovely, relaxed atmosphere. Covered, heated beer garden.... Perfect for chilling with a cigar :)
Lovely, friendly staff too!!
Added bonus of Blue Moon on draught
H. M.
First time visiting this nice little bar. Staff were friendly and the beer really cold. Only thing to add would be more craft beer on tap!
L. T.
Wonderful and accepting place. Friendly and warm reception. The management should be proud. :)
B. H.
Cracking venue for events, huge solidarity to the LGBT+ community, lovely folks I'm sure.
K. S.
Everyone I know loves the outhouse but personally, i've never got on with it. It feels a little too much like a club to me. I've come with friends mostly wanting to start the night off with bottles and bottles of fizz and it has never seemed the kinda place for that. My biggest highlight was one night, and the bar man feeding me malteasers. Did I look that bored? Yep. Staff always, always uber friendly.
N. W.
Great wee hidden bar just off Broughton Street. The staff are all friendly, the beer garden is cool and there is a function room upstairs. Would definitely recommend!
R. C.
Attended a party in the upstairs function room. It was WARM but after a while I either stopped caring or they opened some windows.
Nice selection of drinks and cocktails.
G. B.
A really good outdoor drinking find with a large sized beer garden with sparkly lights, ohhhh you can't beat sparkly lights!
Friendly staff and a good atmosphere with an upstairs function room.
C. M.
Friendly, welcoming staff. Good place to be and to spend an evening
S. M.
Hidden away, a little bit hard to find, but worth a visit. Pleasant yet vibrant atmosphere and a reasonable selection of beers (if a little expensive). Often busy and not too much seating available, so be prepared to stand.
S. D.
Tucked down a cobbled courtyard is the Outhouse - a black-painted bar with a big beer garden. The selection of drinks was good - plenty of flavoured ciders, although these get pricey at £4ish - but, as soon as the DJ started at 6pmish, it became a little too noisy for me. I think the atmosphere's more suited to an end-of-the-night trip.
s. a.
Lovely clean welcoming pub, beer garden with heaters that you can take your dog's they provide water bowls so excellent for every occasion venue upstairs a bonus
L. C. V.
Great live venue upstairs. Playtime jazz musicians perform every other Thursday. Bar staff is always extremely friendly.
N. M.
Good sized beer garden. Hosts the best regular jazz session in Edinburgh: Martin Kershaw and Graeme Stephen's Playtime
M. R.
Great service, friendly staff and they don’t tolerate bigots - highly recommend!
S. F.
Excellent. LGBTQI+ friendly bar. Big outside space.
B. H.
Great beer garden, most of the staff are friendly and a good selection of beers. Chilled out atmosphere.
N. A. H. L.
a lovely chIlley out ambient atmosphere and great beers, especially the orange flavoured Blue Moon severed with a slice of fresh orange.
very friendly staff .
M. L.
Nice bar, they are food-ordering-friendly. Sit in the courtyard with a lovely coctail or pint, order your choice of pizza delivered, win!
G. D.
Great ambience, interesting art exhibitions next to a simply comfortable interior. The dynamic, dedicated and most friendly personal make this bar special.
M. J.
Fantastic bar just of the beaten path of Broughton Street. Great selection of drinks at decent prices, good music and laid back clientele. Definitely worth a visit.
E. H.
My favourite bar in Edinburgh!! Great staff and the beer garden is awesome in summer or winter!
A. Y.
Quiet spot and hidden so not very noticeable from main road. Friendly staff and good banter, would go again
J. T.
Pride over pounds! Well done for standing up against a bigoted group of people!
D. W.
Great music, good beers, hidden beer garden (a rarity in Edinburgh) and promotion of local artwork and artists. A real gem.
p. m.
One of my favourite little hidden gems of Edinburgh. Great bar, great bear garden and always fun when the parties upstairs
G. o.
What a little gem of a place. Hidden in the city. Staff are fantastic. Very welcoming to have a pint and chill
K. M.
My only complaint of this excellent bar is that I wish their opening hours weren't restricted to nightlife, but in all fairness to them there are a number of establishments like this in the city.
P. D.
Great bar with an eclectic mix of people and easy on the wallet. Fantastic outdoor seating area
D. P.
Friendly staff. Decent cocktails, cheap beer
C. R.
Been going here for years! Good atmosphere and fantastic beer garden for those rare sunny days.
D. A.
A great live music venue and good pub - great atmosphere.
J. R.
It's ok. Nothing special. You can sit outside in a courtyard at the back however not sure if you can smoke there - it's an enclosed space.
D. L.
Good setup and very accomodating. Will definitely be back.
G. M.
Absolutely brilliant. There is party on upstairs, what a brilliant atmosphere. Well worth a visit
s. b.
brilliant wee pub. great staff, great beer and cocktails. oh aye, and a fab beer garden at the back.
I. T.
Good option if you want to have a drink somewhere around Broughton St. The beer garden is nice but the place can get too crowded sometimes.
K. D.
Great beer garden
n. r.
It's not just my local, it's my life. Find it and you will become one of the cognescenti. The wonderful Innis & Gunn is on draught. The standard by which all other brews should be judged.
R. E. S. S.
Always a nice place for a drink and got a really good function room upstairs.
R. S.
The owner is really great, and I heard that Ed Sheeran played there before he was singing around campfires!
