Reviews of The Queens Arms
A. V.
Went for a Sunday roast with our dog. The place is cute and we had a lovely booth. Staff was nice and even nicer with our little boy. Food was really good, roast, sides, desserts. Fairly priced too (I'm used to London's prices 🤣).
Very nice experience, absolutely recommended.
The waiter was rushing at the end (we stayed for our two-hours slot) and didn't give me the time... to tip 😅 sorry about that.
서.
The pub was very cost and comfortable. In addition, people were friendly and attentive! We wanted to order fish and chips, but it was sold out already. We ate stake and kidney pie, truffle asparagus and patron pepper. The ingredients were fresh and cooked very well! We enjoyed a lot there.

Always a pleasure to come home and to a place you know so well and always be so impressed to see how the place continues stay true to the warm, athmospheric, welcoming bar while continuing to innovate. The menu - launched yesterday I'm told - is true to Queens Arms high standards and the staff are attentive, chatty and never overbearing. Perfect hangout.

The Queens Arms is probably one of my favourite pubs in Edinburgh. Having visited this establishment last week for a couple of drinks I was reminded of the excellent customer service and the beautiful surroundings relating to Scottish history and in particular Mary Queen of Scots. Great place to watch sport with multiple flat screens and an outside area for smokers. The food is excellent but a little expensive depending on what you want. The range of alcoholic beverages is very good.

Stopped in here a couple of years ago. Food and service was great. I want to take a star off due to server not saying anything about my monty python T-shirt. I mean come on dude.

Absolutely fantastic 5 star experience! Fantastic 5 star service by Daisy and Pete, wow, I have never before experienced such slick service, this pub has got it nailed! Extremely busy for sure but service was amazing!! I have not been here before but will DEFINITELY return for sure! Great example of how to run a busy pub, employ amazing staff, plenty of them, the minute our glass was empty, someone appeared to ask if we wanted another drink. First class!! if you want to know how to run a successful business, visit this pub,
great example to all!!

Outstanding visit, had lunch and a few drinks today. (sorry forgot name of server SA guy...) great pub, non fussy service and the food was very very good!!!! As a landlord of a pub down south you guys made it look easy on what must have been a busy day, in a sunny Edinburgh! well done all. (hope chef enjoyed his pint)

Such a cozy place! Great ambience and nice food...I went to have the Sunday Roast which was a great hearty plate of food! Nice medium rare beef, parsnips and potatoes, cauliflower, and a crisp Yorkshire pudding were just the thing I needed after a morning of hiking around!
G.
Lovely place to have dinner and beers! Peter was an awesowe host. I totally recommend as a must in the city. Thank you so much!
D. B.
Really nice pub. It looks very unassuming from the outside, but inside is like a gentlemen's club - but nicer. Plush leather chairs, scented candles, a great drinks menu (impressive whiskey selection) and fabulous menu. We didn't have time to eat there but we're drooling at the food delivered to our neighbouring table - who confirmed that the food was outstanding. The staff are lovely, friendly and very professional. Definitely one to visit again.
B. G.
Excellent choice for Sunday Roast! Service, food, and atmosphere were perfect! Thank you!
S. D.
We were here for the cocktail festival and the venue is really nice.
The cocktail is called "Caught in the gael" and was really nice. Definitely will come back.
E. V.
Love this place so much. The interior is so amazing, such old town vibes with really cool booths and tables surrounding a rounded bar. On Sunday nights there's a pub quiz - definitely recommend, so much fun. Wide variety of drinks and food available. Chips were amazing!
D. N.
A great pub! It was packed when we arrived, so we had to wait a little for our order to be taken but afterwards the service was friendly and very fast. Nice beers, cider too sweet for my taste. Food was excellent. Especially the haggis lollipops. I really like the eclectic decor with lots of books and a chandelier made of wine glasses.

Second time I’ve visited. Amazing service, the manager was there both times and was very accommodating, made sure we got a table, very chatty and friendly. Food was amazing and they make a really good margarita

I have waited a long time to eat their Sunday Roast here. It's always booked out when I try to book. So this time I secured a booking by doing it weeks ahead.
I am so glad I did this. Now I know why people rave about the Queen's Arms Sunday Roasts. I'm 58 and many moons ago was a chef. I like to think I know food. This is certailny food you'll want to know & you'll be delighted you did.
We had the Sharing Roast Beef. OMG. WOW. I've never tasted such deliciously tender, melt in the mouth beef. It's the BEST I've tasted in a lifetime of Sunday Roast Beef dinners. Even better than my own and I could seriously give some chefs a run for their money. These chefs hands down to them, they cooked this beef to perfection, I think so.proffesional of them, that they cooked it to the absolute second, not a second more or a srcond less, but bang on that second. First class beef, very generously sliced and a good few slices for each of us. I'm often disappointed by the soft roast potatoes and mushy veg some places serve up. You won't find that at the Queen's Arms. You get freshly cooked, evenly crisp roast potatoes on the outside and flavoursome fluffy potato on the inside. Not one bit of fat/grease is on your plate. Perfectly cooked. These chefs are passionate about their food, they take it seriously and obviously care about what goes out from the kitchen to the customers table. The Yorkshire puddings, massive, light with the crispy edges. 10/10. Equally the peas, fresh carrots & cauliflower all with a good bite to them and you could close your eyes and eat them and be able to name each veg seperately as they tasted like they're supposed to taste. No mushy tastless watery mess here. Again these chefs cooked them to perfection. They obviously choose their veg supplier well.... its not Iceland frozen veg here, like I've had in a few restarants. At the Queen's Arms it's fresh and flavourful.
The next delight......the dessert board to share. A scoop of apple sorbet, a chocolate souffle and a slice of lemon meringue pie. NAILED IT.
I had to check around me to see if I'd died & gone to heaven. It was Sunday after all. Im happy to report, it was all very real and all very rare that so much care was put into what was one of the best Sunday Roasts I've ever had and served by attentive and happy staff.
Thank you all for a most memorable meal and one I'm sure to repeat. I did see a battered haddock leave the kitchen, it was huge....maybe I'll save that one for a weekday. I'm going to aim to work my way through this amazing pub's food menu. Can't wait.

Great pub restaurant with lovely staff. Visited here for Sunday lunch and it was so delicious accompanied by a very nice NZ Sauvignon Blanc. There was a mix up with our timings (our fault) but they still accommodated us and even advised we could move onto a new table so that we didn’t have to rush our drinks. Fabulous

My wife and I love going out to eat, trying new foods, and checking out local beers. This place was recommended by a friend for their Sunday Roast and we ended up loving it so much that we went back again during our 4 day trip to Edinburgh. We don't normally stop at the same place twice, but we felt we had to spend more time there.
The food is wonderful (try to book a Sunday roast in advance), the cocktails are clever and tasty, and the dessert is amazing.
Definitely check this place out!
C. M.
It was a busy Saturday.. place was mobbed and turning away custom every 5 mins. Food did take a while to come out but was delicious and big portions. Knocked a star off for the dubious 'service charge' . There was only 3 of us and we ordered no drinks to the table and had one course.. and I would have tipped more that the service charge....I understand a service charge for large tables.. but not for a round of toasties n chips for 3.

Great find whilst visiting from England and exploring Edinburgh ’New Town’. Good location, Cosy atmosphere, Great food and what made the visit extra special was the friendliness, honesty and integrity of the staff who even went the extra mile after we paid up and left and chased after me to reacquaint me with my ‘forgotten’ rucksack containing some very expensive camera gear. Well done and thank you so much.
K. M.
Queens Arms is always such a nice relaxed atmosphere. The bar is well stocked, the food is great and the staff are friendly and chill.
C. C.
One of Edinburgh's best bars. Lovely staff, great atmosphere, outstanding service, delicious food and drinks selection. Currently reservation only (4th Dec 2021).
J. P.
Fish & chips - tasty - but the chips could be a bit crispier. Not bad, but I like my fries (chips) more on the crispy side.
Mushed peas - first time to try this - sweeter than I imaged it would be.
Excellent selection of whiskeys, as well as bottled, tap, and cask beers and ales. The waitress recommended a tap ale to go with my fish & chips and it was a good recommendation.
For a pub, the noise level isn’t too much (music is a bit loud, but not so much as to drive anyone out), and that may also be due to the slightly older crowd the place attracts. Not sure if that’s the case all the time, but it was tonight - a Tuesday.
Friendly and very efficient service.
Give it a try. I think you’ll like it.
C. R.
Excellent service. The staff are friendly and personable. The interior is really unique warm and inviting. Love the arm chairs around the tables. Sink in and enjoy. Food was fresh and excellent in quality, and temperature. The cheese and broccoli tart for lunch was plated beautifully and tasted wonderful. Pastry was flaky and crisp. Outside seating is also available.

Has to be the best Sunday roast I've ever had.
That good we live in nottinghamshire and yes I would travel just for a Sunday dinner
S. K.
We tried a few pubs in Edinburgh, but never quite got that quite got that cozy Scottish pub feel we were after, until on our last night we found The Queens Arms! It was cozy with wonderful staff, even though they were busy. The menu had vegetarian options - that weren't awful and they had a good drink selection. All the guests seemed to be happy and in good spirits. We would definitely come back next time we are in town!
M. K.
Brilliant gastro pub, very welcoming and attentive, we had soup and their chicken pie, some lovely wine. It's a very cosy place to hang out, thank you
S. E.
Had the best time here, staff were great, food was amazing and got there in time for the Sunday quiz! A great night 😁
E. D.
The atmosphere was great, however, like in most pubs around here, the food was missing any type of condiments (salt included).
A. Y.
Great traditional pub with excellent staff and service. Great tasting food, highly recommend.
T. R.
Excellent food! I'd recommend the sharing pie. You get a very pleasing amount of food for two people and it was delicious. The service was EXCELLENT. We were a group of 12 and 4 of us only had 50 minutes before we had to leave for a show during Edinburgh Fringe Festival. They took extra special care to take our orders and made sure they came out super fast so that we weren't late for our show. Thoroughly recommend.
C. W.
Lovely lunch whilst on a shopping trip. Beautiful bar and great staff. Spotlessly clean
C. U.
Great service, friendly and helpful staff, great options for cocktails, spirits, and beer (I didn’t check wine), and the best fish and chips I’ve had in my life!
N. A.
Fantastic Sunday lunch for 2 with the sharing roast. Great service from the staff. Highly recommended. Advisable to book as the place is popular.
K. T.
Came here for the Sunday Roast for 2...one of the best meals we had on this trip. Portions were huge and the dessert was delicious. Its the best bang for your buck in my opinion as it’s one of the most affordable Sunday Roasts in the area that I looked up online. Only thing is that it took a while for the waiters to even get our order and serve the food, but I’d still come back here again.
S. A.
Amazing decor. Brilliant rustic feel inside. Excellent service. The food was fantastic. We had the pork belly and vegetarian taco.
Y. R.
We had the best Sunday roast here. The pub is very cozy inside and the staff was very nice. Make sure you make a reservation for roast tho, it gets busy!!
N. H.
I don't know where to start. This place is amazing. We got shown to our own booth for our meal and the atmosphere is great. This place is so cosy, a little pricey but so worth it! We got the pie and it was delicious. We came back the following night and had a game of scrabble in the corner by the books. I love this place and if I return to Edinburgh will definitely come back here. It is definitely worth a visit.
D. H.
Visited for dinner. Very busy - the two floor staff nailed it despite being clearly understaffed.
Welcoming, cosy and the food was fab!!! Will def be back
b.
Had a few tipples here today. We we were served by the most outrageously charismatic individual. I would return just for his banter. Thoroughly enjoyed our time here.
S. H.
The staff, the food, the atmosphere were fantastic! We loved taking part in the Sunday quiz after our food 😊
K. W.
I love The Queens Arms. It's long been one of our favourite pubs in Edinburgh. The staff are friendly, funny and hard-working. We tend to go for the pub quizzes and they always have a fantastic quiz master. We've introduced the pub to friends who have never been and they all love it.
J. P. (.
Delicious food and fabulous service in a cosy and atmospheric pub - 100% recommended.
M. G.
Really enjoyed my meal (ham and haggis started followed by gnocci)! They were very attentive about allergies too. Strange that they never asked my partner how he wanted his steak cooked. Cosy inside and friendly staff. Great cocktails!
L. R.
Great pub and hospitality, steak and prawns were great, pale ale great, whiskey great, staff very welcoming, will be back! Thank you
N. S.
This place is a great if you're looking for that local british pub grub :) I took my visiting friend here from America as he wanted to try something traditional and he was absolutely delighted by his experience here. They offer a wide variety of classic Scottish cuisine such as haggis, and the big portions are definitely filling!
The atmosphere is also very lively and loud, so if you're looking for a more chill environment this might not be for you. They also have a god range of drinks and interesting cocktails. The staff here are also lovely, and happy to help! However, I would definitely recommend booking a table beforehand as it does get quite busy since it's in central area.
This place is quite pricey though, so if you're looking for something cheap then maybe this isn't the best option :D However, it's worth it for the experience!
D. T.
Comfortable, decent food, friendly staff, OK but not great beer range
E. R.
We had a fantastic Sunday Lunch here - it's pricey but definitely worth it. Was the only place we could find that did Sunday Lunch after wondering around for an hour and it did not disappoint. Would recommend
L. W.
Wow, just my kind of place, great environment, proper honest tasty food, quality drinks and amazingly helpful and well presented staff, love this place
J. C.
Stunning pub roast in a cozy atmosphere. We had the beef sharing roast and it was just the right amount of food. Perfectly cooked, tender beef. The staff were lovely even while dealing with a flooding cellar and leaking roof! 10/10 would roast here again.
S. C.
What a great spot! The staff is so friendly, they have great events (went for comedy night) and great drinks.
Naturally a regular spot
p. p.
Fantastic atmosphere ,beautiful place .
Brilliant food and great service !!! Highly recommond the prawn and crab Cocktail and the haddock and chips and that's coming from someone who used to own chip shops!!!
a. h.
Quirky little bar, lots of history themed stuff on the walls, so I loved that, loads of seating options which is ace. Nice staff, thumbs up xx
S. M.
Pleasant, not too busy. Would go again. We only had drinks.
A. C.
Lovely pub, lively atmosphere and friendly staff, small seating area outside which gets the sun and fabulous fancy cocktails and decent prices 🙏
J. T.
Our waiter earlier in the evening recommended The Queens Arms & it was so adorable! Attentive bartenders, lovely decor, great beer selection. Fun spot for a couple of drinks.
T. J.
Beef was fab, could have done with a bit more veg on the sharing board, nice atmosphere but a little chilly, fire in the grate would have helped.
H. P.
Was in to watch the football, had the fish and chips would strongly recommend and the service from all the bar staff couldn't be faulted
S. M.
Interesting Edinburgh New Town pub with bags of charm and alcohol selection. Didn't eat but the food looked good!
K. M.
Set in the New Town, the Queens Arms is a popular pub. Old woods with books lining the walls, this pub delivers ambience and good bar. We tried the brand new Cold Town Beer, launched that day. Really fresh taste in a really lovely bar. You won’t be disappointed.
G. H.
Fantastic sharing roast dinner , really enjoyed it , beautiful old place , staff were very friendly and helpful .
J. M.
Very atmospheric warm pub with good food and great beers on tap.
M.
I’d come back for their fish and chips any day. The local IPA is really to recommend as well. Cozy athmosphere and friendly staff.
S. K.
Strange ambiance. Dark academia meets American football meets classic rock ?? But cool. Had a good night.
K. J.
This place is the trifecta: great food, service and decor. Food was fresh, spunky, and chips were perfect. Pic shows a beer and blue cheese soup that I know you said awful but is in reality so, so good. Service was top notch, they accomodated our group of four despite having no reservation. Decor is interesting too, it's down below street level and one one half is covered in old books and the other half of the restaurant has wine bottles hanging from the ceiling. Had a sign saying they have quiz nights (on Sunday I think?) so we'll be back for that.
A. G.
Excellent service. Great food. Clean and comfortable pub.
D. P.
Sunday sharing roast!! Absolutely incredible!!
K. M.
Lovely welcome, the food was delicious. Fab staff! Thank you.
K. a. H.
Great food - we had a range of the steak sandwich, chips, chicken supreme, beef croquettes and mac n cheese. Everything was delicious. The staff are so much fun and friendly, as well as being attentive and making sure you have everything you need. The decor is great, looks really stylish and classic at the same time. Going to try the roast here next time we hope :)
T. W.
Best Sunday sharing roast ever, we couldn't recommend more highly. Also great service and atmosphere!
M. M.
Cozy pub with some great food choices at decent prices. I tried the pigs cheek and a side of Mac and cheese and it was lovely. Servers were very nice and friendly.
a. w.
You've never tried a pie till you've been to the Queen's Arms, best place we've been and lovely atmosphere, 5 stars are not enough!
K. N.
Used to live in Edinburgh, back for a couple of days and the place just improves with age. Comfortable, stylish and reasonable prices. Was solo and didn't feel uncomfortable.
P. W.
Brilliant Old School pub! Visited this pub for the Lions game June'21, having had our match tickets taken away due to COVID. Great atmosphere, friendly staff and a enjoybale experience all round. Thanks to all at The Queens Arms
E. W.
The food was fantastic and the service was friendly. My only complaint was that they told us they needed the table back after 1.5 hours, which should have been plenty of time, especially since we ordered all of our food as soon as we sat down, but due to “slow service” (not sure if that’s the kitchen or our waitress), we had to rush to eat our dessert and clear out. We’ve never had that problem with other restaurants that told us about the time limit. Other than that we had a nice time. It’s a very cool place with an extensive drink list and good food.
P. D.
Delicious food and excellent service from the manager Oliver who was on the top of everything. Highly recommend and definitely will be back!!
A. A.
Service was really excellent! The staff are so friendly and accommodating. Food was good and filling, plus the atmosphere was really lovely. The books give it a nice and cozy feel!
A. P.
Decided to call and sit outside with our drinks, friendly staff and quirky interior lured us in for lunch, we were not disappointed it was lovely, exceeded our expectations 😍
C. S.
Lovely meal and great atmosphere. Our server was fabulous, full of banter. Highly recommend. We will definitely be back
F. S.
Very kind staff, the food is nice and the atmosphere is warm and cultural
J. S.
Despite some momentary confusion over booking sunday lunch the roast was by a long way, the best I've ever had! (We had the sharing roast)
A. T.
Recommended by the staff working at the Charlotte Hotel. The first restaurant we went to after we arrived. The bartender was fantastic. He had me at first sound with his accent :-) He was very accomodating when I was trying to figure out what beer to drink and let me have a few samples. The food was amazing. The homemade soup hit the spot. The waitress was also helpful and nice. The manager even stepped in to help and delivered our food and helped with drink refills. I WILL BE BACK. THE VIRUS WILL NOT WIN!!
H. L.
Strongly recommend, food is so nice that I couldn't leave it. Staff are also very kind! You will enjoy there
A. B.
Brilliant. Watched the rugby whilst getting tucked into great food & cocktails.
A. J.
Have been for drinks many times but never eaten. Heard they were extending the 50% off so decided to try it out and will absolutely be back. Portions were an excellent size and food was excellent quality, plus all covid precautions were explained and adhered to well.
A. C.
Lovely pub, lively atmosphere and friendly staff, small seating area outside which gets the sun and fabulous fancy cocktails and decent prices 🙏
K. E.
The food was amazing but the service was so so
K. N.
Used to live in Edinburgh, back for a couple of days and the place just improves with age. Comfortable, stylish and reasonable prices. Was solo and didn't feel uncomfortable.

The best roast I’ve ever eaten out and service was absolutely fantastic. Loved it!

Brilliant Old School pub! Visited this pub for the Lions game June'21, having had our match tickets taken away due to COVID. Great atmosphere, friendly staff and a enjoybale experience all round. Thanks to all at The Queens Arms

Great pub/restaurant
Great ambiance
Fantastic service

Our waiter earlier in the evening recommended The Queens Arms & it was so adorable! Attentive bartenders, lovely decor, great beer selection. Fun spot for a couple of drinks.
J. S.
Great pub, the staff were so friendly and welcoming, espically our waiter Steven, a great person. It was their first opening up after lockdown and everything was running really smooth and super clean. The food was well good, I’m dreaming about those chips! Crispy yet soft. Thanks to all at the Queens arms 👌😁
J. P.
Great selection of whisky and friendly staff. We came just before closing on a Monday so it was nice and chill.
J. L.
Excellent food. Staff very nice

Excellent food. Went at luchtime. Can’t recommend the casserole enough!
M. A.
A very nice pub in Edinburgh. Not sure about the food but it is a fantastic place to grab a drink any day of the week. The interior is innovative and inspiring. Seating is nice and spacious. Recommended.
T. W.
Several visits before. This time beer and lunch with old friends. Good service & food and not crazy prices for middle of town.
F. T.
Great, none posey place in the centre of Edinburgh with a great atmosphere. Honest pub
L. H.
Outstanding pub tucked away down the stairs. Great beer, good food, great service. Cozy atmosphere and very relaxed. Stopped in for a couple of beers and some fish and chips. Was not disappointed!
D. G.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Great wee pub good selection of drinks and food menu.
We had some food and we couldn’t fault it.
We will definitely come back
T. R.
Tasty Sunday roast in a chilled worldly place with fantastic service
T. N.
Stopped for dinner on a Friday night. The place was packed. There is a fair amount of tables outside in front. It appeared most of the people were there for drinks only. There is no host/hostess so you grab a table when it becomes available. They have about 8 beers on tap and a lot in bottles. We ordered the fish and chips on a recommendation of a young lady. Excellent!!! The service staff was very friendly and attentive. Great place. Recommend highly.
C. G.
A pleasant unspoiled pub which still has its original name unlike some other establishments which in trying to be hip/chic have actually made theirselves ridiculous. It is still closed and is for sale, I hope whoever buys it does not spoil it.
B. M.
Our treat spot for a pint, or some Sunday roast. Atmosphere is very much a traditional pub, with comfortable seating, booths and tables that can be reserved, and a good selection of everything from coffee service, beer (cask and draught) to wine and spirits. Sunday roast for 2 is a great deal and was fantastic.
If you're planning on Sunday roast try to book ahead or arrive right for noon as they can get full quickly - same for prime hours and holidays.
N. H.
I really enjoyed this Scottish pub. Great selection of scotch, wine, beer, and anything else you want. They had excellent live music and the coolest partially enclosed booths on the right side. The place had a friendly and happy vibe, and I will return on my next trip to Edinburgh.
B. M.
Good pub with a fair selection of products.
A. H.
A fantastically warm, and welcoming atmosphere! Very polite, obliging, and courteous Staff! Quite obviously an exemplary well managed establishment! Comfortable, relaxing furniture, and furnishings. I had a thoroughly enjoyable, and memorably satisfying evening! I will be sure to highly recommend to my friends, and family members! Thank you!
S. M. R.
There is a great variety of food, but I love the fish and chips that they prepare. Great variety of beers too. The decoration is very beautiful, especially the large library located at the bottom and very good atmosphere.
Full of people when there is football or rugby.
E. M.
Amazing staff and great food. Waiter gave us amazing scotch suggestions. Nice drinks menu! Had a great time. Music is the perfect volume.
S. S.
We enjoyed our visit very much, we had trouble finding a place to get food between 15-17:00, but this place offers good food for reasonable prices at almost any hour. The ambience and the staff were also very nice. All the food we tried, even the haggis lollipops were very tasty, beer was good and the right temperature not lukewarm.
R. L.
Great find and would highly recommend. Only popped in for a drink but the bar staff were great and friendly. Even though we didn't eat here (wish we did), the food that was being served looked delicious and can see why it's a popular pub.
K. M.
Good, buzzy pub - always has lots of people (after work and late at night). Drinks are fair price and the location is ideal in the new town. Seat yourself (sometimes seats are hard to find!) but that just speaks to the fun atmosphere and popularity. Recommend for a pint !
L. M.
Had a brilliant time in a booth watching the football. Atmosphere was great despite the restrictions and loved the Neropasso wine
C. L.
Wonderful pub, attracts a lot of show-offs unfortunately but they tend to leave once they discover the prices. Table service is some of the best in central Edinburgh, haggis lollipops and burger is a favourite. The burger is one of the best examples of a pub doing simple food well, keep it simple and tasty! Great place.
B. M.
Went there just before Xmas 2019 with my daughter for a meal @ 7:30pm. We both ordered ribeye steaks. The steaks were tasty cooked to perfection, although the side salad could have been more ample and the potato wedges looked like they were the dregs from the deep friar. The waiter was very attentive if not a little over zealous communicating. If i had to to do it all over again i would have chosen somewhere more laid back or quitier. It was the last weekend before xmas so it was very noisy full of end of year work party get togethers, and also very busy. Overall reasonable. Booked through the web which advertised a 3 course xmas menu which was not on offer sadly.
P. O.
Great place for a chilled beer. As a cider lover, it breaks my heart that their selection of ciders is so limited. That aside, the ambience is great and the fish and chips are damn tasty too! Oh and it's an awesome spot to watch football games!
D. M.
Lovely service and a great place for Sunday lunch
A. N.
I liked the atmosphere of this very traditional pub, despite the sport channel TV. We all have Tv at home now, why do we need them in pubs? I am not a beer drinker, so was very pleasantly surprised by the excellent glass of wine. So much so, i had another!
J. G.
One of my favourite pubs in Edinburgh. Great decoration, fantastic pub food, good selection of drinks. Can get a busy at the weekend or for a Sports event - consider booking if you wish to eat there with a large group.
A. W.
As a girl who likes her whisky, must say Queens Arms has a fantastic selection. Their cocktail list is good and a little bit different too. There is a range of seating available depending on your mood and level of sociability- Bar, leather wingbacks, small tables or intimate booths. Their food is decent too. This bar has a great mix of people, it is slightly like an old man pub, and slightly a cocktail bar, while catering for sports watcher too. Something for everyone.
E. D.
Slow service on a quiet Monday night. Main courses took best part of an hour to arrive. Asked for the dessert menu and nobody came back to take our dessert order so we just left. Disappointing first visit, I won't rush back.
V. K.
One of the best pubs in Edinburgh to have a good sunday roast.
It's a lovely pub that feels authentic and characteristic! Make sure you book in advance and if you can, try the roast. They serve it really well (and fast) and it's one of the best ones i've had.
Service is also good and not too pushy.
P. G.
Great pub with excellent draft selection, decent gin list, good cocktails, and a wide selection of whisky. Food is very good gourmet pub food - highly recommend the fish and chips. Nice booths, chaise longue, big tables and a few wing back chairs. Often has 2 different sports channels on (quietly) and the glass chandelier is well worth a look.
E. K.
The fish and chips are nicely done with a perfect light batter tasting like crispy air. The other tables around had good looking pies and beers and happy faces.
Nice gastropub with something for everyone. Look in the shelves and you'll see some nice looking books on one part of the room. Look harder and you'll see some of them are just fancy looking Readers Digest selections.
There are 3 TVs that will show footie on at least 2 of them and the other will show news if it is noteworthy such as the Notre Dame Cathedral engulfed in a blaze.
Overall, a nice enough joint with good food and drink.
L. C.
Booked here for lunch and to watch the football. Lunch was lovely, unfortunately we already had a dinner booking elsewhere or we would have been getting stuck into the roast. We are already planning on coming back especially, the Yorkshire puddings look to die for!
S. J.
Food was amazing and the atmosphere was incredible. I loved it!
S. M.
The Queens Arm is a lovely pub located in the heart of New Town. I love the atmosphere and the decoration with the many bookcases! You can go with your partner or a group of friends, it is great in both cases.
Drinks are to my taste (I had red wine and Innis & Gunn) and food is good. We shared plates with smoked fishes and vegetarian dishes and everything was good.
Prices are reasonable.
Overall a great place to enjoy a drink and nibbles with friends!
A. L.
I just adore this pub/bar. This place is so homely and incredibly inviting. The staff are very pleasant and the food...its just so good. A must go for any walk of life.
M. R.
Really, really glad to have picked this place out for dinner. Arrived about 6pm on a Wednesday, and was at first a little confused if this was a "seat yourself" sort of pub, since the inside is pretty cozy and romantic. Eventually we chose a small table in the corner, which allowed us a view of part of the bar and into the cool, back room with the wine bottle ceiling. Waited just a few minutes before our server (the manager?) came over, joking that he "hates" that table because he always misses when people sit down. There was of course no reason to apologize; we hadn't been waiting long at all and he was incredibly friendly. He immediately made recommendations for drinks when we asked, and returned very soon after with them. I had the Sauvignon Blanc, and my partner had the Blueberry Smash cocktail; both were delicious.
For dinner, we ordered the burger and the sticky braised pork cheeks. Both were absolutely phenomenal; the burger was cooked perfectly, and one of the best I've ever tasted. The chips were buttery, hot, and well-salted. My pork cheeks were pull-apart-with-your-fork tender, and had a nice balance on the plate with the noodle pancakes and beansprout salad.
The delicious food and drinks combined with the cool (and slightly creepy!) ambiance and impeccable service make this place a true winner. I'd happily visit again.
T. S.
Great food and beer selection. Although seating is a pain. It's first come first serve seat yourself style. Probably much better to call ahead and reserve seats. Had a few people who showed up after us get seats first because they were in the right spot to snag them...makes it a pretty easy place to skip and eat elsewhere.
H.
Drink here quite frequently. Good staff. Nice decor and when the rugby is on a great atmosphere. Good selection of drinks and the food is great if you can get a table. Good pub for tourists and locals. Can get overcrowded at weekends and during sporting events.
M. P.
Ideally placed in the centre of town, this is my pub of choice for after work drinks! Good mix of continental lagers and some real ales aswell. Also a very good selection of whiskey. Whether the pub is bursting at its seams on Friday night or you'd prefer a Sunday afternoon drink in the wing back chairs, this place will not disappoint.
A. D.
Only popped in for a Friday night beer, but lovely place, big inside despite a small looking exterior! Great tunes, v funky, well-priced beer! Can't wait to go back.
J. D.
Beautiful lower basement pub with a lively atmosphere and great food. Generous portions at a reasonable price, as you would expect for pub food. Very good selection of drinks behind the bar.
Often very busy so worth booking a table in advance if you want to go for a meal.
M. D.
Good selection of beers. Good place to watch the footie too. Great little bar in the centre of Edinburgh. Working well during Covid too.
G. B.
Excellent and friendly staff. Food was amazing. All in all a most enjoyable experience.
D. M.
I like the Queens Arms, it manages to mix old-man pub, with up-market after work drinking. The decor is great, big chandeliers made of all kinds of unusual things, and walls filled with old books (which we spent a good long time perusing). The drinks are reasonably priced, and the atmosphere lively. All in all, a nice place to while away an evening.
S. G.
Food was OK, small booths-all a bit squash and not sure about adding 10% service charge on to table of two adults two Children 🤔
E. T.
A traditional pub with a twist, they have a wide array of old favourite drinks but have also created some interesting takes on classics. One such serve is their Edinburgh Gin Raspberry and lime which is a twist on a gin and tonic but feels like an exotic new creation. The bar staff are friendly and efficient and the atmosphere is jovial and intimate.
M. M.
Got a few late-night pints here after dinner. Nice space, we had a good time. Limited beer selection, but we found that was often the case in Scotland.
L. F.
During our visit to Edinburgh, we visited the Queens Arms on a Sunday afternoon. The aim was to find a good roast dinner and the queens arms didn’t disappoint. They offer a sharing type roast with the offer of one type of meat. We enjoyed the beef Bavette full with trimmings. Would definitely recommend this pub, very cosy.
P. C.
As usual, went there afterwork with some colleagues and loved the place. Although it does get a bit crowded near the door and around the bar, there's a lot of seating space at the back. Beers and ciders are good and so are their chips ;) The decoration is amazing, with all those bottles stuck to the ceiling.
L. M. (.
Went mid-afternoon on a weekday, so the place was very quiet, but it seems like the sort of place that could get very busy. Staff were very kind to a pair of slightly addled travelers. Food was amazing, very filling. Haggis lollipops were a pleasent novelty.
L. T.
Came here for my birthday meal and for the cosy atmosphere. Not as cosy as I was hoping for, very much a sports kind of pub/very laid back on a Saturday which I
probably should've realised. Interesting seating/booth was nice (was very pleased to get this on a Saturday) but right in view of TV screen so not great if you're looking for a romantic meal. Nice wine. Service was excellent, got spilled wine replaced for free. However if you're vegan don't bother coming here for dinner unless you want a bland salad. Even if you communicate with the manager ahead of time. Boyfriend got what he wanted-football and tasty steak.
A. A.
Fantastic! Great service. Excellent beer from Stewart Brewing. Outstanding pub.
M. P.
It looks really nice, but it can get cramped at weekends. Was one time on Saturday night and kt was very difficult to get to the bar and there were glasses all over the place. I assume it must be better during the week. Beer selection is ok, but nothing amazing.
K. E.
The food was amazing but the service was so so
M. D.
I've visited The Queens Arms on three ocassions and have found them to be an enjoyable place to visit and enjoy some food with friends. My visit this time was in April 2018. The staff are attentive and knowledgeable. The menu is varied and the fodder above average. One of my party unfortunately was served fish that was seriously over cooked. The shame was that visually this was obvious. Having brought this to the attention of a server we were not of erred a replacement but the bill reflected a nice overall discount. So, while mistakes can happen they did rectify the situation but a response of offering a replacement or offering a discount would have been apprecisted. Don't let this put you off visiting here though. The ambience is very pleasant and well worth sitting down to enjoy with a good selection of drinks, and with the mentioned situation aside, good food it's a great stop for visitor and local alike. One of my common complaints about establishments in Scotland is the quality of the bathrooms. While here the men's was well appointed and reasonably clean the huge down side is the stainless steal trough. Please listen to this advice all who are in a position to design gentlemen's toilets. Your customers are not cattle or other farm animals. These troughs are never clean an never look to be sanitary. Please, please remove them and show respect t for your customers. For the reasons stated I can only give the management here a total of 3 out 5 Doc's kudos points for the management. A shame really because we have been treated very well on other visits. Again give this place a try and hopefully you will not be disappointed.
G. H.
Absolutely the very best place we have eaten since being in Edinburgh! Best fish & chips anywhere! Meat pie fabulous! Very helpful wait staff! We will come back!
T. W.
My daughter and I are visiting Edinburgh for the first time. This place is fantastic! The service was really good, and the food was even better. The interior was unique and cozy. We will definitely go back.
V. K.
Nice drinks and the best chips ever! Great place, can get very crowded sometimes. It's worth to book a table, especially if you are a bigger company
A. K.
Had a few pints and the steak sandwich. The food was good, steak was still medium rare and juicy. Chips were great and the staff was lovely.
S. N.
Great little boozer!! Very friendly relaxed pub with great homecooked food! We were looking for a pub which would show the football but was not a sports bar! Read previous reviews and were not disappointed! 👍👍
G. B.
One of my favourite pubs in town, really lovely atmosphere and very cosy. When you go in the door look for the little booths on the right ticked away behind the bar. The wasabi peanuts have a kick and come served in a lovely vintage teacup!
I. J.
A very popular bar with local office workers and a regular place for friends to meet up in before the night kicks off. Lots of screen for watching football in. a great range of drinks, if on the higher price range. Good food and helpful staff.
J. K.
Good atmosphere in a good location. Quirky decor inside, but usually rammed full at weekends and during sporting events. Distinctively decorated, with bookshelves on the walls and wine bottles glued to the ceiling. Booth tables to sit-in if you get there early enough.
I. H. I.
Took a while to get served, waiting whilst the bartender was talking to customers. Also they had no cider at all. Bartender was a lovely chap though, and the place is nice.
R. H.
The best roast I’ve ever eaten out and service was absolutely fantastic. Loved it!
T. L.
Good beer, good food, nothing more to add...
C. G.
Beautiful setting, their wait staff(Brian) was extremely friendly, helpful, and patient. My wife and I stopped in for a few pints, a nip of whiskey and some haggis lollipops, and we were extremely happy with our visit.
K. R.
Fell in love with this place, wish I discovered it sooner from my time in Edinburgh. If I'm ever up that way again, I will be sure to go back. Staff have good chat, cosy setting, felt like a proper pub which we all know is a shameful dying trade.
J. B.
If you're looking for a cosy traditional pub, the Queen's Arms is what you're after! It's a really nice place to go for a drink, and it's quite big as well so you're usually able to grab a table. One of my personal favourites.
A. G.
The Queens Arms is definitely aimed at people who watch sport and drink beer! If you are wanting a relaxed drink in a serene atmosphere don't go here. I think tourists will love it though as it is a classic British pub.
V. H.
Food is good and the place is very nice if you can get a booth. Red wine is expensive and mouth puckeringly bad although the bar man told us that was how it always tasted.
Stick to beer and grub.
J.
A cozy book-lined pub with a nice atmosphere and live football. the food is on the expensive side compares to other gastro-pubs in the city. £22 for a sharing pie is tad pricey!
E. A.
Amazing atmosphere and food!
T. M.
Great pub food - possibly the best fish and chips I've ever had. Really interesting interior too, with huge bookshelves and bottles hanging from the ceiling, which makes for a unique dining experience.
M. L.
Really nice place and cozy interior. Lots of bookshelves and armchairs to relax. Selection of beers could be better but they serve great food for a pub
M. D.
Pricey but worth it, the staff was great and the ambiance was also. Heaving on a Fri night, don't know if they take reservations but probably worth calling if you don't want to wait. Had the daily pie to share and it was huge and delish.
K. H.
Very nice pub with old fashioned decor. Nice selection of beers on tap as well as in bottles. Bar staff attentive and quick.
R. W.
Great friendly staff and a nice place for a few drinks and food 👍
K. C.
This place has a really relaxed vibe and nice decor but won't be in hurry to eat here again. The pies were sold out so I ordered a plain burger which was exactly that. Can't complain about service though.
S. S.
Good selection of beer, friendly staff, and great atmosphere. Only went there for a couple of beers with my parents - they don't normally drink beer, but the staff helped them find each a beer to their liking.
S. Y.
Great atmosphere and a decent selection of drinks. It can be very busy in the evenings and very difficult to get to the bar.
There are booths behind the bar, on the right, which offer slightly secluded drinking.
A. D.
The Queens Arms has such a nice, homely pub feel. It's a really comfortable place to have a few drinks with friends or your partner.
S. B.
Great food and atmosphere although took a while to get served by the waitress. It was a busy night though so not a big deal, would still recommend
A. S.
Great atmosphere, very quirky. Food was good and the service was fine. They added the tip to the bill but were happy to recalculate it without so we could add our own tip.
M. T.
3 hours after trekking through Arthur's Seat and the Castle and we come across this little gem. Cheapest feed on the block as well as having, to quote the locals I spoke to, "The Best Fish and Chips in Edinburgh". You simply cant go wrong. Didnt take a picture because it was simply gone after 1 minute
R. J.
Great food and really nice atmosphere. We turned up and managed to get a table but most parties were being turned away so it's advisable to book first.
G. S.
A favourite pub in Edinburgh. Friendly atmosphere, quirky atmosphere and the place of choice to watch the footee. Excellent food, although the menu could be updated more regularly
M. G.
A well appointed, comfortable trendy pub, although I was only in for drinks, tables were kept clear of finished glasses and the bar service was prompt. Would visit again for sure. 👍
J. T.
Traditional pub feel, all dark wood and burgundy leather. Edinburgh style bar in the centre, with variety of booths and seating all around. Magnificent fish and chips.
J. C.
Sunday dinner was lovely
M. R.
Nice décor, but some tables are awkward for dining. Good quality food. Service can be slow however. They also wedge the door open and it can get a bit breezy. Good overall however.
P. H.
I saw Ricky (Syd Owen) from Eastenders drinking in here.
Was a good night, during the festival. Staff are great and a good selection of spirits.
D. C.
Totally fine pub, better than average drink selection and a mainly young crowd. Decor won't appeal to everyone buy the place has a lot of character.
J. D.
Fantastic, child friendly, great service, delicious world cup pork burger with mint, Mac and cheese and fish and chips to perfection! A great find and great beer too!
T. H.
Started a pub crawl here with a dozen lads (behaving 40yrs+ lads)....and liked that there was some outside space. Stayed here longer than planned. Was there early summer 2019.
C. D.
Fantastic Sunday Roast. Succulent roast beef with all the trimmings, and great value. Served as a sharing dish for 2 which was nice.
M. L.
Arrived at 1,50pm as table booked for 2pm never got seated till 2.20after asking again, had to wait 20mins before order was taken, food was ok but was after 3PM deserts were lovely, wouldn't rush back
C. B.
Lovely gastropub. Amazing Sunday Roast. Cold Town Beer.
G. W. M.
Parents ran this pub 40 years ago.was excellent then new staff keeping up the same high standards
H. B.
A very well destined interior, the food and drink are a little on the pricey side for my liking. However the food is good, worth a visit once in a blue moon.
M. O.
Great service, nice space, food was pretty tasty - recommend the pie, Sunday roast and burger. Fried chicken was a little bit disappointing though.
A. N.
Food was good but the portions were not. we ordered a goats cheese sandwich, the smoked salmon sandwich and a bowl of the mussles. The sandwiches were good but very small.
C. R.
Good beer. Good seating. I'd go back for a few pints. Might get a bit busy during student times though
p. t.
Best sunday lunch in edinburgh by a MILE, great beer too. Relaxed and friendly dining in a traditional British pub 5*
R. M.
This is one of my favourite places in Edinburgh. Great Scottish food, beer and live sports. It gets busy during major sporting events.
i. v.
With my lizzy girl to this lovely pub...God bless the Queen!
B. L.
Great burgers, fantastic mussels and a great range of beer. Staff were friendly and the atmosphere was great. Definitely worth popping in.
J. S.
Love this pub. Great beer, atmosphere and all the Eijits are in The Standing Order so you get served straight away instead of waiting 20 mins like a numpty.
n. w.
Excellent, friendly bar. Was first pub went into on visiting Edinburgh. Welcoming atmosphere. Great ale and guinness. Big whiskey selection.
L. V.
Lovely atmosphere and interior of the bar, as well as the staff are friendly and professional. Very nice place where to come for a longer chat over a few drinks.
B. M.
We didn't order anything but the barkeeper had a nice beard and was really friendly (the bar looked good too).
R. S.
Would be nice if they trained the staff that making cocktails isn't simple dumping a list of ingredients in a glass. Mojito was a bit bland, no muddling 🍸😉
M. N.
Our favorite pub during our stay in Edinburgh. Very friendly and helpful staff. They make great cocktails aswell!
J. W.
Great pub. Popular at night and a great spot for everyone to meet during the day. Decent beers and good pub grub.
a. J.
Fantastic staff, Fantastic food.
J. M.
Nice pub with a good atmosphere and great service, a little pricey but worth a visit if you're looking for a cosy pub.
C. T.
Genuinely one of my favourite pubs in Edinburgh. Great beer, nice atmosphere, hardworking staff and classic look.
S. B.
Brilliant pub! Great vibes, really cool interior, absolutely lovely staff, super tasty food.
C. M.
Best Sunday roast in Edinburgh.
M. v.
a pub "pub", with a quirky twist. good beers and whisky if that's your thing. big tv screens for when games are on and average Edinburgh prices. can get too busy on friday or thursday nights after work though.
L. K.
Mid to downmarket traditional style gastro pub.
Looks as though it is warm in winter.
Interesting information about Mary queen of Scots on the walls
n. E.
Lovely place with good atmosphere and tasty food And very lovely friendly staff, We are definitely going back soon. Rocknroll :)))
R. T.
A good local pub with a cosy feel. Food menu is ok but nothing special, with hardly any GF options. Limited phone signal.
S. A.
Great place. Lovely atmosphere with good food and service. Worth getting off the main drag in Edinburgh.
J. B.
Staff were great and felt really C-19 safe!
F. a.
Saturday night at the Queen's arms amazing mood and design.
the food was good and the service was very nice.
a nice lively not to expensive place for a good dinner...
K. S.
It feels like the perfect pub, good things on the menu, cozy, fun. Does get crowded, but that's because it's so nice.
L. B.
Excellent food and service would definitely go again for Sunday lunch if visiting Edinburgh
T. H.
Chill out during the week, a late friday or saturday night, or a sunday roast. Although i recommend booking for the roast. Tasty food, nice selection of whiskies and other beverages.
H. C.
Hmmm
The people I was with thought the food was good. I thought the fish and chips I had was moderate at best. Priced OK and the pub itself is OK.
M. L.
Nice atmosphere, good burger, a bit boring chips, well made salmon but a bit uninteresting rice and chickpeas - needed more spices
J. R.
Love this place. Very comfortable with great pub food. Go on Quiz Night and you will think about moving to Scotland.
K. M.
Nice place , not bad selection of drinks, busy , great place to meet up and very central
L. J.
By far the best Vension and Steak we have had, couple that with warm friendly service and you get an amazing night. Can not recommend highly enough!
A. T.
Food and drink are excellent, service can be a bit slow if you aren't used to the style... check in with the bar if you want to expedite things.
2. C. D.
We went in search of a Sunday roast. What we found was a superb twist on that good old roast. Would definitely recommend this.
R. W.
Best Sunday dinner around. Always busy though so boom in advance. Hit or miss with beer selection.
M. L.
Lovely staff and good food. Not the cheapest place, but the drink selection and atmosphere make up for it. Not student or tourist dominated.
B. V.
A typical pub with typical beer and food. Diverse crowd, but hard to get a table, service, or even up to the bar at times. A few outdoor tables.
E. G.
Any bar which also doubles as a library gets my vote and with cosy booths, fireplaces, tasty chips and even tastier bar staff I think The Queen's Arms is an indisputable winner in the Bars of Edinburgh leaderboard.
L. V.
Nice atmosphere, good choice of drinks and the chips we ordered were very yummy. Like the boxes too.
D. M.
Lovely food, excellent service and an extremely good atmosphere. We'll worth a visit.
J. L.
Great atmosphere. Friendly service. Great pub food. Very enjoyable.
D. S.
Great pub with a ton of whisky and beer options. Not the best phone signal here so a nice place to hideaway.
M.
Used to be my local haunt, good venue great location but this also means on a Friday after work you'll struggle to get a seat with out a reservation.
I. B.
Great Food and Great Boozer.
M. R.
Great little pub with good atmosphere and well priced alcohol, decor is crazy too.
B. D.
The queens arms were shorter than her legs! Thus the reason it took so long to hang her!! Other than that the beer was damb good!!
S. H.
Lovely food and well managed covid restrictions by great staff and dog friendly 👍
Z. I.
Great food and nice staff, but incredibly busy affecting atmosphere
L. J.

Quite a cool place with friendly locals, and staff who really know their beer. Slightly let down by the long waits for service.

Lived in Edinburgh most of my life and this was my first visit, staff very friendly, and real ale was very good, will probably give it more marks on next visit.
