Reviews of The White Hart Inn
N. C.
I had to tray the White Hart as they claim to be the oldest pub in town and I was not disappointed.
Had to wait 15 minutes or so for a seat as place was really crowded. I ended up trying their taste of Haggis and a beer and overall the experience was great, I believe that's as closers as you can get to an authentic Scottish Haggis.
I had to remove a star as the place became extremely overcrowded during my stay, without any sort of respect of social distancing (like with people standing and so on). That was sort of odd after I was forced to wait outside as there were no tables free.

A historic pub and one worth checking out. We stopped in for a pint before we headed back to our hotel. It was warm and cozy and everything we could have wanted. Established in the 16th century, it claims to be the city's oldest pub. When we visited it seemed to be a younger crowd but all were welcome.
O. K.
Very quick and polite service. Traditional Haggis, Neeps and Tatties were delicious. We got lucky and managed to get a spare table at lunch time. But it was pure luck, because the place seems to be very popular

A really good place. I had a day to kill in Edinburgh before my friends joined. Came here on my own and the barman was really friendly and talkative with everyone. Food and Guinness was great. Lots of cool history to this place which you can read about on the walls.
C. D.
The young man at the bar was so welcoming & accommodating. We the haggis & tatties starter dish & surprisingly enjoyed it. Awesome service with a smile! Highly recommend this pub.
T. C.
Nice and welcoming local pub. Nice and friendly staff and good food

Edinburgh's oldest pub! What could be more fun than that?
Didn't even realize what we were walking into. Spotted it across the road, thought it looked cute, and saw the sign by the door before we walked in.
Our experience was very much beer basic. Drinks only, pop in, pop out and move on. Friendly staff, great prices (they could capitalize on the oldest claim but they don't)..
Not sure how helpful this review is other than history worth checking out if that's your kind of thing. :)
J. R.
Good whiskey selection!
If I am not wrong it is the oldest pub in Edinburgh. Lovely atmosphere.
M. T.
This bar has a good location on the Grassmarket but they "don't do cocktails", have "never heard of Campari" and had no tomato juice. Two of the glasses came with free lipstick from a previous user. If you just want a traditional pint, why not give it a try...
J. F.
We tried haggis and it was good, especially with the mash and gravy foundation. This restaurant claims to be the oldest pub in Edinburgh. The sun was warm and we enjoyed watching people walk through the Grassmarket area.

A very old pub with lots of character. The young lady behind the bar was really friendly and chatty. Beers are around £5 a pint. The Green King Ice Breaker was excellent.
D. R.
Nice pint with friendly staff, what more could you want.
P. F.
Great, friendly pub and the food is excellent.

The most amazing pub in Edinburgh, live music great beers , great atmosphere all round amazing .

Good food and good beer what more could anyone need.

My wife and I liked the place so much we made it our go to destination for drinks. Great story behind the pub. Service was quick, attentive, and friendly. We chatted and really enjoyed Johan the bartender. Good selection. He is hard working and knowledgeable about alcohol and different types of whisky. I would recommend.

This place is great!
You can be in a pub that exists for more than 500 years!
This was my 2nd time here and the first I had lunch!
We had a vegan tomato salad, the haggis neeps and tatties and a burguer. Everything was great!
We also had for desert the cranachan which was very very good!
Friendly staff also, as usual in Scotland 😊
D. “. B.
Came here for lunch while I was sightseeing Edinburgh. Had a great chat with the manager who helped me with my first experience of haggis which was really enjoyable. Although I didn't go to every pub, this was the cheapest for whisky prices i'd seen out of the possible 8 other places around the area. Would definitely come back here, just it was more local!
K. H.
The food was excellent! My husband had the Haggis, neeps & Tatties which was delicious. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Great place!
J. S.
Fantastic to see a packed pub again on a Bank Holiday Sat. Friendly staff and good prices.
T. D.
Great pub , staff spot on entertainment is a must been back twice so far
C. L.
Super fair price on quality Scotch Whiskeys. I can't remember the Parisian bartender's name (want to say Jorn?), but he was both friendly and very knowledgeable about whiskey. Oldest pub in the city with fair prices, why wouldn't you check it out!
T. T.
The White Hart Inn claims to be the oldest pub in Edinburgh, and there's a reason it's been running for so many years! We sat on the patio on a lovely Wednesday afternoon and ordered a pint of amber ale, followed by the haggis, the luxury fish stew, and the sticky toffee date pudding. Everything was lovely, exactly the traditional, heavy Scottish fare you'd expect from such a historical pub location, and the people-watching along the Grassmarket was a great plus -- all for 35 GBP total. White Hart is completely non-pretentious despite its location and popularity with tourists, and service was attentive, fast, and friendly without being too hands-on. Definitely come here if you want a good albeit touristy experience!
W. G.
My first taste of Haggis and what a delicious experience it was. The pub is charming. The cooking is great. Recommended.
R. N.
Good food and good beer what more could anyone need.
I. M.
Nice atmosphere and staff. I am tempted to rate this place 1 star because a ghost downloaded Tinder and sent a bunch of messages to a couple of 21 year old escorts before I could stop it from happening and now my wife wants a divorce. But this is the ghost’s fault, isn’t it? Unless the ghost is a current tax paying employee of this establishment, I will maintain the 5 star rating. If you know anything about the inn hiring ghosts you can get in touch with me at my ghost hunting website.
M. S.
Great staff and fast service. Great wee pub with a lovely atmosphere! Good tunes, laid back and fascinating history! 👌
S. C.
Great traditional pub. Well worth a visit. Great staff and lovely outdoor sitting area.
S. M.
Nice pub! Central, friendly people & service, good atmosphere. Great place to go!
J. S.
Great old fashioned pub at the bottom of the castle on Grassmarket. Good for a quick pint or bite to eat.
S. K.
Cozy place with nice waiters. Food was pretty good and arrived quickly.
We had a power outage while we were there and they were very professional about it.
J. B.
pretty average - the burger was good only because of the patty, our chips were stale, and the music was weirdly out of place and really poppy. it's a shame because it's so well placed, but it just doesn't follow through with what you kind of want in a pub in Edinburgh.
D. R.
Nice pint with friendly staff, what more could you want.
C. B.
Grassmarket is a great street to eat. A nice open area we outdoor seating for when it’s nice out. Food traditional Scottish pub food. I loved the veggie haggis.
A. M.
The best scottish place to be in wonderful Edinburgh! The most delicious raspberry liqueur and friendly service. An unusual atmosphere! Totally recommend 😍
T. N.
It is a reflective feeling being able to have a casual drink in such an historical building in the heart of Edinburgh. An excellent bar staff makes The White Hart a must visit. Kirsty is a star.
K. Z.
Small pub with nice service. To be honest as for Grassmarket area..really small..luckly we have managed to get a table..
G. H.
Great pub situated in the Grassmarket area. We never had an issue getting a table though it was much busier during the evening. Staff were brilliant and still cheerful despite being ran ragged serving customers at times. Well worth a visit or two 😉
P. M. B.
Best pub in Edinburgh. Love the place, really good food (best haggis ever), drinks and waiters! Hope to see you again.
F. W.
Quaint old pub, nice to see. Staff were very friendly and polite, decent brew.
T. B.
Its the oldest pub in Edinburgh if your looking for atmosphere this pub is the place over 500 years history it can tell some story's. Good clean pub good range food nice service. If you visit in summer its great location just site outside with cool drink and watch world go bye. just relax think back how place would looked 500 years ago. Its Edinburgh lots of history worth a visit.
s. t.
So tasty food. Nice place and very traditional deco.
g. c.
Small pub in the Grass market, Edinburgh's oldest dating from 1646 l think.
B. W.
Nice atmosphere on the Grassmarket. Great place for live music in an intimate setting.
J. B.
The pub's cool, supposedly the oldest and very rustic. Inside the air was very smelly - letting fresh air in would not be a bad idea ;)
M. C.
Very friendly and helpful staff, great selection of whisky!
R. I.
Nice old pub in the heart of Edinburgh. Beautiful atmosphere, smiling people. Wide selection of drinks, and they have a terrase. I would not recommend Nachos though, total disappointment for price and quality of dish.
E. S.
Great place to visit with a long history. Had the lasagna which is a good choice.
D. C.
Loved this pub. Old, historic and a nice place to have a pint. Tried to come in the evening but was full so had to have a couple of afternoon pints the next day!
M. v. G.
Good location in attractive street and oldest pub in town. A very nice atmosphere. Highly recommend this pub. Will visit again.
a. a.
Oldest pup in town, had a great time food and drinks were lovely
R. C.
This place is legendary. The oldest pub in Scotland. Robert Burns ate here. So did Wordsworth. Burke and Hare killed people here. Also, the food isn't bad.
J. W.
The Guinness here is only second to Mulligan's in Dublin. The Haggis here is top notch and is the best I've had so far; worth a stop just for that and the live music!
K. W.
Excellent whisky selection...good ghost stories😉
M. D.
Lovely pub with a very friendly and knowledgeable bar lady from Italy! ❤️
P. M.
Proper pub right in the centre of town, hard to find! Good atmosphere and Guinness
A. D.
Great local pub! Wonderful live music
L. D.
Very nice friendly, cosy, pub with lots of history. Had my first haggis, neeps, tatties with whisky sauce. Was very nice.
V. G.
May be the oldest pub in Edinburgh. The food and drinks are spot on, the prices are reasonable and the staff friendly and effective
L. L.
Lovely cosy pub. Great atmosphere
A. T.
Nice friendly pub in the grass market, really busy on rugby days.
J. H.
Great Pub with excellent food.. friendly staff.. and good beer ✌️

We had a great time. The haggis is the best we ever had and the staff was super friendly and effective.
b. c.
Beautiful little pub, loads off history good food and drink
J. R.
Historic Hotel reputed to be Edinburgh's oldest. Good for a drink but can get busy.
A. J.
Great wee pub friendly and welcoming staff
v. g.
the place is comfortable and nice, staff is really nice and the food is great!
J. B.
Very cool atmosphere! It was really busy but the bartender did a fantastic job!
l. h.
Great drinks choice, lovely atmosphere and great friendly staff...love it
A. K.
Lovely little pub down in grass market, outside seating, we just had a drink but the food looked really nice.
P. v. S.
Awesome pub with very friendly staff. Great haggis among other food. Had a good time here.
S. H.
Definitely a friendly atmosphere and you feel welcome. Nice place at the Grassmarket.
T. L.
Nice pub didn't eat pies looked lively
E. T.
Good service and atmosphere! Tried their sausages and mash and it was really nicely done.
J. T.
Great pub, great staff. We were here yesterday for lunch and a drink. Came back today for dinner this time. We both had one portion of nachos before dinner, tasted great.
Then the steak&pie. The steak and pastry was great, mash as well, just the amount of vegetables could be a bit more.
I think there were about 10 different beers on tap, mostly Scottish, but I saw a Czech one as well. Nice selection, great pub.
K. s.
The oldest Pub in Edinburgh! Cozy, good food and beer! Very nice staff!
S. L.
Very nice pub good food
J. B.
This place is small but cozy. It's sister pub is the Bee Hive Inn a store away. Good selection of ciders and more than one stout that isn't bottom of the barrel Guinness. The staff is kind and helpful.
F. N.
Good Place to drink a beer or eat a good whisky..
S.
Great atmosphere with live music, definitely worth a visit!
R. V.
Great food, whisky and live music. Perfect :)
N. C.
Expensive
A. F.
Great atmosphere. Lovely food. Friendly staff. Worth a visit oldest pub in Edinburgh
S. F.
Loved it, great pints and a warm welcome
L. L.
Really kind and heartwarming Staff with expertise. Excellent drinks menu, also with some more special beers, to fully reasonable prices. The Haggis, Nips and Tatties was awesome. Will definitely return some day.
G. P.
Cozy place, a warm inn to let rainy days pass by. Tasty desserts and nice hot drinks, the Chocolate Fudge Cake is my go-to choice
R. T.
Awesome small pub that had live/local music. Very happy we stopped in in out 32hr stop in Edinburgh!
T. K.
Nice pub, kind service, beautiful beers. We tried sausages, mash and veggies. While sausages were very good, the mash, the veggies and even the gravy kind of tasteless. Also, kitchen closes at 9pm, which is pretty early by Central European standards. There was great live music the night that we visited the pub, .
R.
Friendly stuff, nice location, good beer and whisky
L. L.
There was a lovely warm welcome. The breakfast was delicious. The room decor was a wee bit worn but what do you really expect for an old building. What matter was the bed was very comfy, there was an impressive power shower and an freshly prepared to order breakfast with excellent quality products for only £40 per night.
G. H.
Arguably the oldest pub in Edinburgh, a nice small place. Me and the girlfriend had the fish pie and it was bloody wonderful in all honesty, the waiter/ barman being a plesent chap and quick with the food delivery. After a stroll round town we went back there for a few more drinks to end the evening and will definitely suggest it to anyone visiting Edinburgh.
N. J.
This pub is located on a popular street of pubs and restaurants. We went as a recommendation from a friend and enjoyed our experience. Although the pub is very small and has limited seating space, the food was very good and were of high quality. They also had a large selection of beer, wine and cider. Our waitress was friendly and helpful, not only in her food recommendations but also in her tips and tricks about travelling Scotland. Additionally, it seems like a popular place with the locals.
S. T.
Had a great meal here, was relaxed and friendly
D. W.
Lovely pub with friendly staff and great food. A must have is the whiskey source that comes with the burger.
M. G.
Great pub, with outstanding staff.
J. I.
Good hearty food and a nice selection of Scottish beverages. Recommend the Boe Violet Gin and the Steak Ale Pie. Service can be slow as there are only two people working the bar and tables. But Chloe does her best to make each customer feel welcome and will be happy to make recommendations for drinks and food
M. C.
Can be very touristic, but the staff is always nice and the Beer and Whisky Selection is great. The atmosphere is terrific. Never liked the food though, thus 4/5
E. S.
Great service and nice cosy pub
R. A.
Supposedly haunted by the ghost of William Burk. Also possibly the oldest pub in Edinburgh. Excellent whiskey selection. Excellent alcohol selection. The food is standard pub fare but pretty good. Prices are a bit higher than I'm used to but not outrageous.
D. S.
Classic Pub in every way. Entertainment was a young lad with a guitar who played very well and was quite engaging with us. Great time. Oldest Pub in Edinburgh well worth the effort for a pint and a souvenir shirt!
L. F.
We tucked in here for a pint and to rest our weary feet. The pub was only at about half-capacity but there was only one waitress and one bartender working. We ordered food to our booth, finished a round of drinks and wanted to order another round but the waitress was far more interested in talking to the bartender. The nachos and beer were very good. The service, not so much.
M. C.
Very nice food, drinks and staff was so nice !!
K. R.
Evening of beer service was good beer excellent
P. K.
Kind service, nice food and rich supply of whiskyes of Scotland.
S. B.
Friendly staff and great atmosphere, decent prices too. Would recommend!
D. V.
Officially not only the oldest, but also the most haunted pub in Edinburgh. Fantastic, atmospheric place with a great selection of drinks and a very friendly staff. Offers live music every night - the evening I was there, this was quite brilliant with a young Scottish singer. Sadly almost everyone just kept talking instead of listening to her great voice and playing. But that's not the pub's fault, I presume.
s.
Great friendly place and haunted apparently 😉
P. M.
Lively friendly atmosphere. Lovely variety of gin. Folk guitarist was amazing & very knowledgeable about Scotland's history & sings he was singing. We had a great night.
A. B.
This is the oldest pub in Edinburgh. It is a cozy place with live music some time during evenings.
P. B.
Oldest pub at grassmarket Edinburgh. Warm welcome
S. A.
This is indeed a very popular pub. Old and small but clean! Had some wines and dinner. Haggis was excellent. Salmon overcooked. So full on a rainy evening we ate at the bar. Bar ladies service was superb. Located at grassmarket where public executions took place once upon a time it was also a market for cattle and horses. Best!
S. F.
Old man's pub for tourists. The food is so comforting you want to bury your face in it and shout "Night, Mum!"
The staff are friendly and efficient. Be nice to them, they work hard.
It's old and in the centre of Edinburgh so expect a lot of foot traffic at weekends or special occasions. Lots of beer and whisky choices. Extra padding on the seats. TVs for news and sport. Once you're settled it's hard to leave.
A. N.
Only stopped for a drink - very cute inside. Not somewhere for large groups to go as it is only small and finding a seat was not easy. Great bit of Scottish heritage to immerse in.
N. A.
Been there spontaneously on a Sunday afternoon. Very good service, nice flair the Haggis was very good, burger as well. Not too touristic and very fair price. Definitely recommended.
E. S.
They say the place is haunted, but the only haunting thing was that beautiful haggis they set in front of me. Still the best I've had! Next time I'm in Edinburgh I'll be heading straight down to the Inn to have another and a pint, of course. Brilliant food, brilliant place.
A. H.
The food here is very nice and the service pleasant. The waiter did forget to order one of our meals which was frustrating (we were only a table of 3) and said he'd give us a free coffee to compensate but didn't. However it's a cool pub, just get in early because there are only 9 tables- they have to turn away more people than what they serve!
C. S.
Had a nice dinner with a nice atmosphere which was amenized by live music. Service was a bit slow but the waiters always attended us with a big smile. As an addition, the meals were bigger than expected. Thanks for your attention guys!
G. G.
Nice pub. Good staff. Bit pricey, but it's the heart of the Grass market 🤪 during the festival! So. Hey. Does food too - though we didn't indulge.
C. G.
Location is nice, beer is okay. Friendly staff, but a bit on the expensive side.
F. L.
Making a claim for oldest pub in the city, it certainly has charm and cosiness. Great location, right off Grassmarket Square, and a stone's throw from many other fine establishments. Great haunt for a pint or six.
J. T.
Chilled atmosphere, nice beer and typical pub food. The staff was very welcoming and will help you choose from all the craft beer they have. Live music on the weekends after 9pm (2016)
M. V.
It is a good choice if you like to drink a beer to a pub, since it is the oldest and famous pub in Edinburgh. I'm not excited about the food though. The staff is really friendly and kind.
J. M.
Nice atmosphere good to sit with friends and catch up
J. H.
This Pub is in the Heart of Tourist-Edinburgh, and as such, you'll probably have to wait for a table. The food is standard pub faire, but the quality is much better than most. Big selection of beers and whiskys, and the historical atmosphere is well worth the wait. If you're only looking for a drink, you're welcome in whenever, so long as there is room at the bar.
A. C.
Nice pub, friendly staff
J. W.
Unique spot, we didn't eat, just had a pint which we elected to have on the little patio out front as the bar smelled really bad (like the bar was once used as a urinal kinda bad). Based on smell, I would say it wins for oldest pub in Edinburgh. As a tourist, it was a good pit stop for a pint and photo op.
V. M.
Worth a visit to tick the box. Nice atmosphere when live music is on. The food is, let's say, not poisonous. The selection of beers would have been great 10 years ago.
G. M.
Excellent pub with great service and nice outside area. Excellent covid 19 precautions with high levels of hygiene enforced, track and trace requested and good guidance. Very reassuring.
T.
Great selection of scotch, at ridiculously low prices.
J. B.
This is a very popular pub. Old and small. Had a beer and dinner. Haggis was excellent. Salmon overcooked. So full on a rainy evening we ate at the bar. Bar ladies service was superb. Located at grassmarket where public executions took place once upon a time it was also a market for cattle and horses.
C. C.
The capital's oldest pub dating from 1515
Rabbie stayed here on his last visit in 1791 but can't see where the rooms would be????
P. H.
Loved it. Small historical pub, good beers great food and really helpful staff. A must do visit when in Edinburgh. Oh and there's all the history too
T. L.
Great service fantastic food with some local dishes served up.
J. B.
Friendly staff. Difficult to rate during Coronavirus. Food was OK. Pricing reasonable for a tourist destination.
W. S.
Not a bad wee bar at all and better than most on the Grassmarket. Beer is nothing special but the burgers are top notch. Staff are first class and could teach other pubs how to cope with busy, noisy, thirsty and demanding customers.
P. D.
Great little pub on the heart of Grassmarket which is convenient for us as we are staying on West Bow. Friendly staff, nice selection of ales too. Certainly recommend it if you're out and about nearby!
R. W.
It was a fantastic place with a great atmosphere and friendly staff. The food was great!
S. S.
An incredible pub with an interesting history!
E. A.
Genuinely very nice stuff. Very delicious pub food with local Scottish touch. Highly recommend. It is very small though so you might have to wait to get in. I think size of the pub adds to its atmosphere
A. B.
Food when we got it was fine. Salmon was big and really well cooked. What let it down was the mashed potatoes they were Luke warm husband had the steak pie and said it was ok. Waited almost an hour from we came in till we got our meal
S. T.
Historical location in Grassmarket. Edinburgh oldest pub. Quite small but friendly. Good food at reasonable prices. Decent choice cask ales
A. M.
Great atmosphere in a pub started in 1516. Excellent beer selection with at least 4 casks on the hand pump. Had the classic burger and it was excellent.
P. T.
Very busy, get in early if you want a seat
B. T.
An authentic pub down the city castle.
Might be a bit difficult to get the attention of the staff because the place gets a lot of visitors.
Even though it can be crowded, the atmosphere remains cosy.
Extra tip: walk a bit further down the street to go around the castle. You might get lucky and get eerie views of the castle standing up in the fog.
E. W.
This is a very cute historic pub along a bustling stretch of Old Town. We were pleased to find the staff friendly and accommodating—not the usual reception at a "sells itself" location such as this—and the whiskey list diverse. The food was only so-so, even for pub food, but still worth the visit.
f.
Smallish pub and busy, but somehow we found a table outside. Oldest pub in Edinburgh 1500s.
H. B.
Very relaxed and authentic atmosphere with friendly staff and the food smells delightful.
J. R.
Went in with friends for a sandwich. Nice and quiet so could rest and get something to eat. Very Scottish with a bit of tartan overload. Sandwich was nice as there was coleslaw nachos however very expensive
G. B.
Great wee pub in the Grassmarket Edinburgh steeped in history and a bar that's well stocked , staff are on the ball , pub food is very good , outside seating is fantastic when weather permits , a must visit if your in the area ."Where the beer is great , so be ith the bar. "
D.
Great location, historic building very helpful staff, very busy.
G. M.
Oldest bar in Edinburgh.. good food & readonable price
T. M.
Great atmosphere and a really fun way to end our vacation in Scotland. Our server Harry made us feel very welcome. Would recommend this place to anyone
P. M.
Great place great drinks and the staff are all lovely x
C. J. (.
The best experience we had, out of a full week in Scotland. Lovely music, wonderful staff, tad expensive but what can you expect these days. Well worth it.
J. P.
Good drinks selection, but barman won't take initiative: 1 entire can of red bull per vodka redbull etc, rather than, "will 1 can do 3 drinks?". Results in lots of waste & high prices
G. x.
Lovely little pub, but busy and most tables are reserved for people eating early evening. Beware the folk singers if you want a quiet place to chat.
T. W. T.
Bartender was knowledgeable and very helpful. Even experienced the 6th region of scotch not mentioned on our Scotch Whiskey Experience tour called the Islands. Learned just a little more.
G. P. M.
Spent around one and a half hours, lovely day, outside drinking tables available, friendly staff, food option available
C. S.
Ever visited a pub for food and got exactly what you were looking for? I did when I visited The White Hart Inn on my first night's stay in Edinburgh. The Haggis, Tatties and Neeps were the best, served in an authentic Scottish pub apparently Burn's himself visited it too. Absolutely, loved the place. My son, commented his burger was the best he'd ever had (he's eaten alot of burgers).
F. M.
A must do in Edinburgh! Good beers and Ales selection. Fun and friendly staff. The place is quite old and authentic. The atmosphere is fantastic.
M. R.
Loved it, atmospheric and ghostly, the oldest pub in Edinburgh
M. W.
A bit like a oldie worldy pup quaint plus good ale will visit again next time in Edinburgh
C. H.
Had the best time in Edinburgh here drinking a few pints, making new friends, and singing along to a great musician. Great place and highly recommend visiting
F. F.
Nice place for a few beers. The selection of beer was very good. Food was ok but nothing special. We will definitely come back.
S. A. (.
Great poured pint and great location
C. R.
Lovely. Amazing to see how much work has gone into getting the place match fit for the covid cup final. Big transformation. Very nice people.

The White Hart Inn is an Edinburgh must-see if you are at all interested in historic places, Robert Burns or if you just love old pubs. Many claim it is the oldest pub in Edinburgh, dating back from the 1740s, and some say it's haunted. If you are on a pub crawl, It's a must see and a great little place with a friendly atmosphere and live music
J. T.
Very nice cosy pub. staff really nice. Bit late for food but would definitely go back and recommend to everyone to try
P. F. M.
Good pint, prompt service.
M. F. (.
The infamous pub of Burke and Hare. We sat outside and took in Edinburgh while sipping drinks and chatting. Friendly staff and reasonable prices. A little snap shot of history.
K. D.
Had the haggis nachos. Both the haggis and the nachos were extremely tasty and made a great meal! (They can be ordered in servings for one or two people.)
j. j.
Old fashioned style pub, but then it is supposedly the oldest one in town.
Welcoming staff, basic fayre, and a small selection of well kept ales.
If you go to Greenmarket, this is one of the better ones to visit in my opinion.
J. A.
Got a good sticky toffee pudding and half a pint. Love the ambiance of this place! Very cozy, old pub feel.
R. W.
Fun Joint. Grab a pint here and enjoy you will find a pleasant crowd pleaser of a stay. Its going to be a few elbows thrown around but only in good fun. Part of the whole Grassmarket scene you just bounce in and bounce out when your ready.
S. K.
Oldest bar in Edinburgh (or so they say). Neat little place with good beer and scotch list. Can get super hot inside though.
R. S.
The beer may have been OK but the food definitely wasn't. I ordered a burger and it was more like the sole of a shoe. I sent it back and got a refund.
M. S.
A pretty good boozer surrounded by dross. The real-ale selection, although small, is reasonably priced and well kept, and the food is good value. Service has always been friendly and efficient.
J. B.
Bar trading on its previous reputation and now losing its way due mainly to the poorer quality live acts and service. Many visitors walk in.......and walk out again wondering why it's a " must visit"
B. F.
Great pub nice ales and good wines. Smaller than I expected with a fantastic atmosphere. A must to visit a word of warning watch out for the ghost
A. Z.
Really nice pub. Staff is very friendly. Great selection of beers and whiskey.
P. C.

Delicious food and a great selection of whiskeys on offer!
V. M.
No breakfast. 😕The service looked like they couldn't be bothered. No functional toilets. Small choice of food. Food was alright. Good for drinking and a warme place. Unfortunately no creepy man fallowed me in the toilet.😂😂😂
P. M.

M. K.
It was incredibly crowded and there wasn't much seating available. The toilets were not well kept, there wasn't anything special or stand out about this pub. Would not go again
Y. U.
The 500 years old pub is offering ranges of beers. This atmosphere at the terrace encourage us to drink more and more😁🇬🇧
S. H.
Fantastic little pub! Two guys, one guitar and a harmonica provided live entertainment and the place is adorable. 10 put of 10 would come again.
J. M.
Very good food and beer. The staff is really nice and it's a very charming and old place.
P. M.
Nice little pub. Good selection of beers and a large range of malts. Live music on a few nights, and doesn't get as rowdy as some Grassmarket venues.
E. K.
Good service and great food!
G. M.
Friendly staff and prompt service. Was greeted by a smile and asked how I was on entry. Robert Burns Scotland's National Poet stayed here in 1791

Good food, bad service. Strong french-gaelic accent, forgot order, mixed up drinks, neglected food requests. However, food was good and service by alternative waitstaff was nice.
A. M.
Nice pub in the grass market. Staff very pleasant and although I didn't have a meal the food other people were eating looked good
S. C.
Very nice pub, allegedly the oldest one in Scotland - founded in 1516. Good selection of beers but service wasn't the best.
V. T.
Food and beer was awesome. Had the chance to listen to live folk music as well. Would visit again
N. Y.
There's a certain sense of wonder that comes from sitting in a pub that's five hundred years old. The White Hart should be visited by any lovers of whisky, and history!
K. S.
Excellent food, very friendly service
P. L.
Tried my first taste of Haggis here, and loved it. Great Atmosphere, and right amidst some major attractions in Edinburgh. I would recommend it.
L. I.
Nice place to sit outside on a sunny day. Had tasty Haggis and Mac‘n Cheese with some local beer and enjoyed the vibe of the Grassmarket square
M. B.
Wonderful visit. The bartenders were helpful and friendly, giving suggestions and answering questions. Thanks for a great welcome!
J. N.
Must visit when in Edinburgh. Located in the Grasmarket, it's one of those pubs that's been around forever. It's dark, cool, and exactly what you'd expect from a centuries-old Scottish pub.
J. B.
Lovely service and atmosphere. Food was great also, I ordered the Haggis had it with the Belhaven IPA. Extremely satisfied 👌👌
b.
How fun! Everyone friendly, helpful, and wonderful food, at fair prices. The history of the place just adds to the experience. Definitely stop by for food or a drink, or both!

I. P.
Haunted, old, and full of history...we had the haggis and outstanding burgers with a pint to wash them down with. Cheers. Ask about the 👻....

J. N.
Another gem of a traditional (now sadly an ever decreasing )pub great atmosphere great pint and a feast for your eyes
J. N.
Established 1516, but without question a blue collar place. Not bad at all, but the tap is all completely standard fair for Scotland so it's not for me. This is what you call a Towne bat in the states.
P. S.
Food was great. Really friendly staff. Quaint pub. Will visit again.
R. G.
