Reviews of Tiles Bar
R. S.
Nice bar. Excellent service. Very nice view of the St. Andrew’s square garden. Enjoyable seating under the sun with a smoking possibility. The old fashioned and the coffee martini were very tasty.
P. S.
Really good food. The guiness pie was excellent , a real winter warmer. Value for money and the staff are really friendly. The decor is very unique.
B. A.
Decent bar in very central location. Decorated with very cheerfully looking Christmas trees in the windows. Polite and well mannered staff. Had a glass of prosecco which tasted bland but it was at very reasonable price of £5
P. P.
In my opinion this has got to be one of the cleanest places you will dine. Not only good food but the beer is sparkling in the cleanest of glasses. The staff well dressed and engaging. Altogether a commendable effort well deserved a 5 star rating.
L. L.
Always loved the look of this friendly relaxed bar. Easy to get served and the staff look like they enjoy working there.
Gets busy but worth a visit. It shows sport but it doesn't impact those who don't want to watch as its down the other side if the bar. Recommend a visit to see the tiles on the walls.
S. D.
First-time visit. - queues along street for other eateries on the street so went into Tiles. Relatively busy (2pm) but managed to get a table.
So glad the other places had long queues to get in. I seriously doubt the food could be any better than in Tiles. I had a balmoral burger and other half had a steak - both were first class. The decor is really nice. Staff were friendly and service was quick. First time in here but certainly won't be the last. A+++

Weather to meet up with friends or have a quite drink with the paper, Tiles bar can offer you comfort in a most relaxing environment. If you fancied some lunch, Tiles have an excellent menue, with friendly staff always there to recommend what the chef special is. Don't take my word for it, visit yourself whenever you are in Edinburg.
R. B.
Nice, large pub with tiles from floor to ceiling(what's in the name). Relaxed atmosphere, nice food and friendly and attentive service.
V.
Had a great afternoon here, cakes were delicious and staff very friendly
W. M.
Lovely atmosphere. Very friendly staff.
Fabulous burger.
Ice cold prosecco with that lovely touch of an added raspberry 🥰👍
W. G.
The food was mediocre (pie & lamb burger) which made the value for money pretty low in comparison to the price.. The decor and furniture looks a little tired. Friendly staff and decent music which wasn't too loud.
s. g.
2nd visit. Wonderful food and friendly staff. You must visit
G. A.
Lovely friendly staff and the most delicious food...the fish and chips is very much recommended. Fab atmosphere too really great place to visit.
P. Z.
We found this quite expensive, only had drinks but, Edinburgh prices are nearly always dear. Nice place, good atmosphere, staff friendly
L. W.
Tiles is right! The interior tilework of this pub is gorgeous. Such a fabulous atmosphere, I never wanted to leave! Really tasty and affordable fish and chips, ample portions. Great service. Good beer. Lovely spot!
G.
Good buzz about this place ,food and drinks reasonably priced ,nice staff
M. B.
Nice bar just behind crowded Princes Street. If weather permits, great place to sit outside and grab lunch at a reasonable price together with good size portions.
Staff are approachable and nice, service is fast......Just eat all your food if you sit outside or seagulls will quickly fight over your left overs when you leave!
G. T.
Always enjoy a pint in Tiles anytime I'm up in Edinburgh. Great service and plenty of varying drinks to sample. Excellent service as well. 👍
G. W.
Nice bar, friendly staff and good atmosphere. Price for drinks are pretty much what you would expect to pay in the city centre. The tiled interior is quite impressive
C. H.
Nice pub and beautiful building but perhaps not the best place to visit during a pandemic. I visited 3 December and it was absolutely packed. No social distancing whatsoever and hardly anyone wearing a mask when going to the bar.
C. D.
Excellent architecture and decor. Great drinks (blue moon on tap - lovely). Food looks good but haven't tried yet.
C. H.
Very welcoming and obliging staff.
Wonderful Christmas decorations and atmosphere though a bit noisy for a private conversation. 4 of us had steak meal and agreed it was good & reasonably priced, but not outstanding.
T. N.
Great location. Excellent food and service. Friendly. We'd go again.
V. M.
Had a quick coffee before catching a tram to Airport.
Lovely staff and the food that was going out to patrons looked really good 👌
K. C.
Located on corner of lovely square and gardens. Located in old Prudential building hence the tiles on walls. Lovely helpful staff. Good food.
M. T.
Meal was fast enough but not a lot of meat in the curry and never had grated cheese over the top. Wine, a glass of Sauvingnon at £12.50 was extortionate, won't go back I'm afraid.
G. W. M.
Called in here before going for food elsewhere staff friendly great selection of beers and spirits food looked excellent but did not have this visit
W. D.
Price of Real Ales a bit steep £6 for a pint of American IPA or would have given 5 stars.
Worth a visit, as the name suggests the internal tile work needs to be seen!
R. W.
Good wee bar for end of day / sundowner drinks. Can get busy and noisy bit adds to ambition
Recommended.
E. W.
Good place to come for drinks on a Saturday night. Central location and wide variety of drinks on offer
C. W.
Been coming to Tiles for over 20 years and always dependable. Great food. Friendly staff. Good selection of beers. Whether it's a quick one after work, somewhere to rest in-between shopping or a late lunch on a Tuesday afternoon with a few beers, it always does the job!
J. S.
An excellent bar in the centre of Edinburgh. Well worth a visit to admire the interior and the beer of course. As the name of the bar suggests, the interior is covered in tiles. A warm welcome given to all customers.
L. B.
£6 15 for a pint of Peroni seems rather expensive in fact most of the beers/lagers seem over priced. I'd say £5-5.50 should be average cost. Rip off
A. M.
Nice relaxed vibe and lovely surroundings.
Good wine selection
V. W.
Very busy place, if you're nervous about covid not the place to be. Served quickly, glad we had a table to sit at. Only had one drink there.
J. D.
Killer breakfast! You cannot go wrong with a full Scottish / English main or the eggs benedict and draft beer for breakfast or brunch hours. Waiter was funny and very informative; we had beers in 1 minute and breakfast in 9 minutes; done eating in 1 minute and the portions were great for the cost!
I. L.
The most amazing food I ever eaten Haggis is my favourite nice bar with very friendly people few steps from train station highly recommend fantastic Christmas decorations
A. W.
This is my favourite bar in Edinburgh , situated in the New Town area in the historic St. Andrews Square close to the railway station, it is fairly traditional but with a modern style , clean, with good food but not greatly expensive and also excellent for watching sports. What more could you want? Unfortunately the food had finished when got there last night, my bad.
K. M.
As the name suggests, it's all tiles inside and it's good to see the original decor. Nice bar and a good selection.
D. M.
Very nice establishment, been in here a few times.
L. A.
Food was brilliant!
Service was great to start off with but got slower as our visit went on. No one checked on us after serving main meals, no desserts offered and we had to go to the bar for coffees and request the bill on two occasions.
G. C.
Friendly welcoming staff fabulous choice of beers, very nice atmosphere and nice food.
T. H.
Really nice pub. Perfect for me on a quiet Monday eve. Great selection of Largers etc. And whiskeys! Welcoming and quick service. Great location too. Will be back.
m.
Super fast service. Getting to the bar took few minutes, but got served straight away. Portion of nachos was big and very tasty.
P. G.
Had a very nice lunch here today , the staff were cheerful , efficient and helpful.
J. d.
Enjoyed the experience outside for lunch.
Staff were very friendly and attentive, we were mainly served by a very polite waiter called James.
We ordered the haddock and the CLUB sandwich. The food and drinks were priced very reasonably (especially considering the location) and we could not fault a single thing. Thank you
I. M.
Great bar right in the heart of Edinburgh, staff friendly, atmosphere was electric for Scotland verses Wales
S. W.
Stopped off here for some food had fish and chips and they was beautiful cooked spot on.
A. G.
Good looking pub, very ornate (old bank I think).
Friendly staff, easy to get served even though it was busy. Maybe a touch noisy but nothing too bad. Worth a visit.
G. T.
Stunning building, efficient staff. All areas were lovely and clean.
T. T.
Great atmosphere. Just called in for a quick drink......stayed for another.
B. M.
Staff fab.. Luckily we managed to get a seat..
a. h.
Good service and pub grub, great location.
D. R.
Excellent food and a great service from staff
J. H.
Brilliant service food fab and staff 1st class
A. C.
A good, old fashioned pub with lots of outdoor seating. Perfect place to people watch at St Andrew's Square.
The chicken and bacon club sandwich was delicious.
Service was great, it was busy outside and we got served promptly.
G. G.
Been in Tiles Bar a few times when I'm through in Edinburgh. It's a decent sized place with tables surrounding the bar which is in the centre of the premesis. You can also stand at the bar as well now that covid restrictions have been relaxed.
There is a good selection of wines and spirits and pub food is also served.
Prices are average for what you would pay for a drink, I haven't tried any food but the prices were also very reasonable.
Overall it's a really good bar that has been open for many years and it's worth visiting if your through in Edinburgh for a visit.
T. M.
One of the many gorgeous pubs in Edinburgh. This one is a couple blocks from the train station in the center of town. Rude staff, too cool to serve the likes of you.
T. G.
Fairly busy but still good service if you can get in
T. a. l. i. F.
Closed at the moment because of the pandemic but a really busy bar on Saturday afternoons. Sport on the big screen TV and a big circular bar. Right on the corner of St Andrews square.
L. G.
Reasonably priced bar in Edinburgh, serves regular pub grub type food. Good range of beers. Good customer service.
S. F.
Excellent pub, but very busy
J. C.
Great pub and always has a great atmosphere. Food is absolutely excellent albeit its not the cheapest but you are paying for real quality....got to recommend the fish & chips. It's a must visit when you visit Edinburgh 👍
T. B.
This place is aptly named with a vast array of intricate interior tiles on the floors and walls. Great beer, wine, scotch whiskey, gin and rum selections. Off the main busy tourist roads and a bit more local that many other places. Good vibes all around at this rather classy watering hole.
d. l. J.
Big portions, you wont leave hungry also very friendly staff.👍
B. M.

Anothe great bar in Edinburgh. Nice decor . Bar in the middle with seats going around the outside. Always busy.
L. M.
Absolutely amazing food, good price too, warning if eating burgers the correct way (by hand) they are messy 😜
Busy which meant it is a bit loud. staff are all friendly and welcoming
S. G.
I've been in here many times and love the feel of the place. Well with a visit just to take in the decor.
M. S.
Fabulous building. Friendly staff. Large portion meals.
D. J.
Great and friendly service, good food, affordable prices. Worth to go!
A. C.
Tiles has nothing that immediately screams "good bar" at you as it looks like the Cistern level of Tomb Raider, but it has a good choice of beers at a reasonable price (considering this is the middle of Edinburgh) and a nice airy well lit bar, as well as outside seating o
In the summer. Good for Sat afternoon football scores and sports too
M. C.
Brilliant place. Friendly and helpful staff. Fantastic atmosphere. Love going there with my friend's and family.
A. M.
Very helpful and attentive staff who are doing an excellent job given the current Covid restrictions. Worth more than 5 ⭐
M. M.
Missed a trick - table attendant could have positioned another bottle of wine when clearing table!!!
A. M.
Mathers has been returned to its former glory and on our first visit we were warmly welcomed by the staff. Good range of beers and spirits.
R. P.
Busy but staff cope well. Decent selection beers. Food good and priced well for city centre. Worth visit
J. H.
Great pub. Good service.

A. H.
Always a lovely place to go The staff are fantastic and the place just feels special Drinks are great and food really tasty
S. R.
To finish our wonderful Edinburgh Anniversary trip, we ate at the delightful Tiles Restaurant. The atmosphere was wonderful bussing with people. The food looked and smelt wonderful. A delightful young man called Craig quickly and efficiently saw us to a table. Even tho the place was busy, he made us feel welcomed and dealt with our order for food and drink with speed.
My husband had the Haggis starter and I had the Soup of the day. Mushroom. Both were delicious
For mains we had battered Haddock and Haggis.... both meals tasty hot and a good full portion.
I would highly recommend this restaurant, and look forward to going again on my return to the Beautiful Edinburgh.
M. T.
Nice ambiance, tiles all over the walls, hence the name. Very busy in a Saturday afternoon but we managed to get a table with no bother.
Food was tasty, reasonably and priced for centre of Edinburgh. Nothing too fancy, the smoked haddock risotto was yummy. My fish finger sandwich with chunky chips was simple but tasty.
Will definitely come back again.
K. H.
The food is very good and reasonably priced! The inside is stunning! Yes...GO!
J. R.
Pleasant environment, we have coffee at 11 and it is very peaceful, lovely to have a break from the crowds during Festival time. Good coffee reasonably priced, good service. Ate there early evening before a show. Much busier, but managed to get a table. Food good value for money - had the large nachos with chilli, very good and huge! Other half had venison sausages, very tasty. Service good, staff very friendly.
K. C.
Like this bar. Has a good vibe
M. G.
Only popped in for a couple of drinks, it was decent enough and the staff were happy to help a whisky novice with some advice.
M. H.
Good service, good food, reasonable value, friendly staff, nicely located in old Prudential offices.

Usual co-vid precautions in place. Lovely staff, great service and delicious food. I sat inside as was too warm outside!

Popular bar especially on an international rugby weekend.
F. M.
Nice looking bar with friendly staff.

Lovely place to go for refreshments, nice glass of wine.

Wonderful place to crash, eat and drink. The whole scenery has tiles and that makes it pretty unique and a different sound. The service is excellent as is the food. We really enjoyed it here. Oh and the desserts are divine.
P. C.
Delicious fish and chips in a beautiful atmosphere (impressive ceramic interior, and I say this as a professor of architectural history at the University of Edinburgh). Nice place to catch World Cup matches in June 2018. Service was a bit slow and inattentive. Otherwise highly enjoyable, not too loud for a bar. Recommended!
S. L.
Nice building. Nice staff. Good selection of excellent drinks.
A. S.
Nice environment, nice for drinks. Not for food.
J. L.
Good food and nice beer selection. Beautiful building.
A. B.
Usual co-vid precautions in place. Lovely staff, great service and delicious food. I sat inside as was too warm outside!
A. M.
Beautiful tiled interior in this pub, which sits on a corner of St Andrew Square. I have visited it for lunch a couple of times. On both occasions it was not too busy and we had friendly service with the food served quickly. The large nachos made a good light lunch shared between two. Not the most exciting or glamorous pub, but well worth considering.
C. P.
Friendly bartender, nice beer selection. Lovely interior, a little pricey but well within city centre prices. Good music choice. Didn't get to try the food but menu looks decent.
I. F.
Beautiful building! Amazing interior! Beer was Good, my colleagues highly recommended Blue Moon beer which is served with orange. The food looked brilliant though we had already been to wahaca next door.
C. B.
Nice friendly helpfull staff. Good choice of food and beer.
C. P.
Good bar and atmosphere, even shows the sports
J. A.
Great little bar and restaurant. Love the architecture n feel of the place
D. C.
Nice looking pub with a very traditional feel to it. The service is generally good, apart form when it's very busy but that's to be expected I guess, and it has good, not great, food that comes in fairly large portions. The real standout for this pub is that it is centrally located and that it has a decent selection of beers on tap. The downside is that with it being city center it is more expensive. Whilst I wouldn't make it my regular, I wouldn't pass up a drink if it was offered.
D. R.
Even though the bar was really busy, we were lucky to get a table outside. Ordered our food and drinks at the bar, which were brought out for us. Had the Tiles special burger, which was absolutely delicious, and had the spicy wedges, which were perfectly cooked from frozen!! Service was good, and burgers were amazing.
g.
Great bar on St Andrews Square. Excellent range of beers and spirits. Good atmosphere and tile decor is stunning. Food looked good although never ordered anything.
J. G.
Friendly staff, good food, interesting building, nice atmosphere and great value
I. M.
Excellent food and drink with friendly staff
K. M.
Pleasant, centrally situated bar overlooking St. Andrews square with good selection of beers.
J. K.
Nice food, next time we are in Scotland will definitely visit again.
S. M.
Nachos were great. Staff very helpful when we had to move indoors due to the weather.
C. D.
Delicious Scottish food and nice beer
G. B.
Great atmosphere, tremendous history excellent staff! The food looked exceptional although I did not partake. There was a haggis neaps and tatties that everyone raved about including those that were not of Scottish descent.
j. p.
I've been to Tiles on a number of occasions. Beautiful bar with Victorian tiled walls. Staff great, choice of beers great, food excellent. Its quite a busy bar but that boosts the ambience. Highly recommend.
M. R.
Spent most of the day here drinking a decent pint - Hop House 13 and watching the football and rugby on the big screen.
Had a little atmosphere thanks to some of the Welsh fans.
Not a cheap place but easily accessible bar and plenty of seats.
B. D.
Great pub and dantastic selection of beers to choose from
S.
Really nice pub and restaurant. Great food at reasonable price. Beautiful interior. Highly recommend this place for you folks!
F. W.
Nice place ,good atmosphere, a bit pricey ,otherwise OK
J. M.
Been a few times for drinks but visited on Saturday morning for breakfast. Food menu had plenty of choice as well as a mini breakfast. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. Will be back for food again...
A. D.
Good atmosphere. Nice friendly staff
G. P.
Good bar with a lot of staff serving so you can enjoy drinking and not waiting to be served unlike other bars around it. Good selection of food and drink. Very good staff and it also has big screen for live sports. Recommended
D. R.
Lovely interior, great friendly staff
E. T.
Nice traditional pub, central location too. Seats full up quickly at the weekend so I'd get there early if you want a seat. Really nice staff, but the house rose wine should be avoided!
S. R.
One of my favourite bars but they are very disabled friendly
T. G.
Great service and good food. I can definitely recommend this place.
J. C.
Lovely place, nice building, comfortable seating and good food.
This place is quite popular with people living near the east end of Princess Street and from Leith and I often find myself organising to meet friends here. If you want a bite of food I'd recommend the fish and chips, the fish is pretty big and the chips are nice and chunky but its very much more bar food than restaurant food.
Service can get slow at the bar if its busy which it often is. Nice atmosphere and comfortable surroundings. The staff try to be quick and friendly though and I've always had a good time here.
P. W.
Busy but quick and friendly service
D. B.
Popular bar especially on an international rugby weekend.
P. M.
Really nice place. Had a few drinks before heading home.
A.
Nice friendly bar, food is good. Basic pub grub
P. &. F. G.
Great location and good for a drink. Ate there and the food was decidedly average. I had the pie and was presented with a bowl of stew with a distinctly undersized piece of puff pastry floating in it.
j. H.
Yes November snack foods sandwich etc
F. V.
Great bar in the heart of Edinburgh! The interior of bar itself is stunning, with enough space for the whole family and all your pals. Great selection of whiskies, and the friendliest bartenders in town.
S. K.
Great service . Quick and friendly 👍
Κ. Π.
Special, remarkably traditional.
K. M.
A great stop for tasty food and good drinks, delivered with great service.
A. M.
Lovely pub and staff
I. T.
Great old fashioned bar.... good staff and quick friendly service
D. “. E.
Great bar, great atmosphere well worth a visit
R. C.
Nice friendly staff and good beer
K. H.
Good central pub for meeting friends, however its slightly cramped nature means I often find that after a drink we're usually looking for somewhere a little more spacious. It has a good selection of drinks and the atmosphere is always pleasant.
K. H.
Friendly bar staff who no their customers and what they drink. Service excellent and quality food at good prices. Manager is very visible on floor and has an excellent relationship with his staff.
s. f.
Plenty barstaff so didnt wait tong..always busy though nd hatd to get a seat, but we got one evenyually,£15 something for a large glass red, large white nd a vodke soda & lime...
J.
We went there for drinks, they had a nice and quite enjoyable environment. Fast service and good covid-19 measurement in place.
P. D.
A great place to watch the world go by with a cheeky pint of Full Moon! Bliss!
R. W.
Had a bar lunch and the food was great well worth the money. Staff very honest as gave to much money and they came back with it.
Great pub and very central close to train st. And bus st.
2. C. D.
One of many banks to be turned into a pub. This one as the name suggests it has some amazing tiled walls from yesteryear. Lovely listed building. If you find this useful please like

We went for lunch with friends 4 adults and a child
Beacuse i have an illness that only allows me to have liquid i thought i could just have the soup but when i was told it was tomato and coriander i couldn't have it as its too rich...when I asked if there were any other soup options she checked with the chief...i sat back down expecting to have a coffee whilst the rest had lunch.... back she came to the table and chief suggested going out to Sainsbury's in this instance to get me soup of my choice so i wouldn't go without lunch...
OMG where in this day and age do you get fab-u-lus customer service like this i was blown away by the way they handled this situation. Staff could not do enough although it was getting busy by this time. I have to say a massive thank you... having been in retail for 40 years this absolutly outstanding to experience this standard of service.
Highly recomend Tiles to anyone looking for great food at a brilliant price... with such amaizing service
Thank you

Lovely glass of wine to finish the evening, in nice surroundings with friendly staff.
N. F.
Good table service and a decent selection of beers etc
G. M.
A popular bar and is busy so you have to wait a while to be served at the bar.
S. T.
Food was excellent, way over value for money, compliments to chef on well served good, Imogen our waitress gave exceptional service, went over and beyond what normal waitresses give, job well done by both, definitely recommend this place, prices very reasonable
J. S.
Great pub, service exactly what you would expect, great food, beers are excellent, and value for money, you better believe it, great time,
S. R.
Good food and attentive service in a fabulous setting.
K. P.
Great atmosphere, wonderful service, great food!
M. B.
Very busy bar with limited seating because of large island bar.
R. M.
Good pub in a great location. The decor and atmosphere aren't to my liking but it's all subjective. Staff are generally very nice and helpful too.
A. v. d. B.
Fantastic bar, friendly and kind staff!! Food's definitely delicious and affordable. Thanks for the awesome lunch guys!
B. M.
Not a fabulous bar if you're comparing it to the scene you can find elsewhere in the city, but for fabulous whiskey fabulously priced, it can't be beat. 3 single malt pours for under £11??! Forget ordering that flight of whiskey anywhere else!
We had stopped in to see the tiles (REALLY gorgeous Victorian era tiles--wow.) The rest of the decor is a bit on on the dumpy modernized side. If you go, look up from the chairs and enjoy the view above. And order whiskey. Great service and a stupendous bargain.

Was here Friday 31st August, ordered the grilled cod with sauteed potatoes and veg, food was very nice, BUT, the cod portion was a wee bit on the small side (considering you get almost a whole fillet of haddock if i ordered the fish and chips .....and its cheaper) and the potatoes came boiled, not sauteed, but again, i did enjoy and will go back...

Nice and classy.good selection of beer and drinks and decent pub food. Excellent location even more so if you are doing drinks before some fancy dinner near by around st andrew's square.
There is not a lot of rrom though and it can get pretty crowded.
A. S.
Ignored by the shaven headed bartender when i arrived with my girlfriend. Otherwise nice enough
L. W.
Interesting pub. Decent selection of beers and gins. Bit cramped as there is limited space. Big screen for the sport. Service quick and easy.
D. C.
Brilliant choice of beers and very good staff
C. K.
When you step into Tiles you leave your troubles behind. The staff are knowledgeable and always attentive and ready to offer you one of their CAMRA registered pumps. Better still, if you are a wine fan the Tiles sommelier is the most knowledgeable in Edinburgh. Regardless of your tiple, if you like Tiles then you are in luck as this bar is full of Tiles. A dear friend Alec had his leaving doo here and the staff were incredible. A must visit. 5/5
C. T.
Nice atmosphere. Staff are still very attentive.

Always call in here for haggis lunch when in Edinburgh. Its always busy and lively when there is a sporting event on but that just adds to the character. There was no haggis available the last time I visited though which was bitterly disappointing.
K. R.
Great pub. Food and service, excellent.
G. C.
Perfect for a quck pint (been a few times). Don't know if I would choose it for an 'all night' pub, but no complaints
C. F.
Nice old style bar with high, decorative ceilings so suitable for giants. Town prices though so be wary but thankfully there is a really fancy BOS over the road where you can discuss a loan to cover your bar tab.
