Reviews of Brel
É. B.
I've been greeted at the door immediately and was taken to our table. Staff is very friendly, they checked upon us regularly during our meal.
The portions are huge - we shared a starter between the two of us but it could have just as well been shared by 4 people.
A bit on the pricey side but we had a reasonable bill because we shared (although had no dessert as we were full).
We've been seated inside next to the heater - it had to be turned down because it was roasting there. It was dimly lit which was a bit dark for my taste but I think other areas were better.
M. B.
Great social place with full of positive energy and tasty food. Despite the fact that the place was absolutely full with customers, the staff remained friendly and helpful. A must-visit when in Ashton Lane.
G. R.
Nice pub / diner. Relaxed atmosphere and ambiance. Pleasant staff and I enjoyed my meal of Muscles in a lemongrass and mild chilly broth. Prices reasonable. Good near by parking. 1 minute from Hillhead Subway so easily accessible from other parts of the city. Also has covered and no. Covered outdoor area and beer garden.

Had a wonderful evening at the Brel on Friday night. Our server Jules was fantastic, she was very helpful with the menu and provided us with awesome service. The food was delicious, I had the Risotto. We will definitely come back next time we get over to the UK.
B. C.
Enjoyed it, we were outside in the beer garden which was nice. Don't think we had a patio heater near our seats so did get cold, although it is January 🤷🏼♂️😀. Staff were always about and pretty attentive. Burger was 👌.
C. B.
Nice bar with fairy lights. The best thing about this place is the beer garden, so it's a good place for drinks in the summer. Wide range of beers, especially Belgian ones, a bit pricey but it is the West End. The food has been a mixed bag for us, the best options are the mac and cheese and the moules frites (mussels and fries). The fries are crispy and tasty. Their s'mores are also very good.

The staff couldn’t be nicer. The setting is really fun. You can be inside, outside at the beer garden, outside at a picnic table or book a fire pit ahead. You do have to spend a minimum to get the fire pit. The food outside comes in little boxes and a basket picnic style.
For me, I wish they did give the option to have outdoor food served like it is inside JUST because food I’m containers gets soggy. They kindly offer gluten free options and the staff is caring of this and helpful.
Also, they could make a gluten free s’more kit by getting Nairn chocolate chip biscuits and another chocolate that is not Lindt (has malt) if they wanted to but I imagine it is tough to do everything these days with COVID, food allergies and just the chaos of life these days. We had a lot of fun. Again, lovely staff. If you do come gluten free, bring your own Nairn biscuits and chocolate to add yo the gluten free marshmallow kit they bring out. Really good rose lemonade. Fun night out on cute Ashton street.

The place were really pretty and well decorated, it was really packed when we were there but we managed to sit and eat on the benches in front of the TV. The burger was decent and so was the mussels (good portion for both), not the best we have had it was fun just with the atmosphere.
A. M.
I love sitting outside and enjoying a drink. Their mac&cheese is more like cheese&mac (no complaints there!) and the rest of the food looks lovely. The desserts were awesome as well!
T. E.
Had food and cocktails there yesterday which on the whole was really good. It’s a big place and with the sun out the west end was pretty busy. They had good control in place to ensure they didn’t get over loaded, we waited about 5 mins to get in where we were shown to a table in the bar, we hadn’t booked but it wouldn’t be a bad idea on a busy night. Fish tacos were good, sides were good, the only fail was the mussels, although tasty and of a good size you could count them (17), they did bring more (22) but not what you might be used to for almost £11 when chips are extra. Cocktail of the day was a strawberry frozen daiquiri which was really good. Doing well in these crazy times but if you are a craft beer and mussels vibe you really need to be good at both.
M. O.
Nice place to grab some food and drink. The soup was hearty and flavorful, the bread crispy and fresh. The mussels have nice selection of flavours, they are large mussels, however the portions full pot and half pot are more like 80% of actual full or half full. There could also be more garlic flavour in the most garlicy option advised by the server. The ribs were definitely a large portion however the sauce was more like a spiced ketchup rather than bbq. The side of slaw definitely has way too much mayo. Overall the food tasted good, the server was very friendly and helpful, the location is nice and the fireplace adds a nice cozy atmosphere. The prices are decent and there is also a good deal for lunch for mussels. I would recommend trying it out and seeing for yourself.

Again was exceptional, I arrived early the but your staff expediently took care of everything making it another wonderful evening. I can't recommend you enough and do on al My media platforms. Lobster and mussels always so good as we're the cocktails and pims, the garden is so well done out I love it. I'm partiarly sighted and staff are well trained to assist me In a friendly unassuming way which is much appreciated. Thank you from an always regular loyal customer 😊
M. L.
Place look awesome. Food depends what you order. Peanut curry was good, mussels well done, too but mac and cheese as well as onion rings were far too oily (you could see oil floating in the dish). I know that everybody should feel good in their skin but for the sake of the guest ... waitereses please wear bras!!!!
D. P.
Great bar, been coming for years, some unusual Trappist beers, famous for its mussels and fries, and out the back is rammed in the summer. Pity we got lobbed out!!
V. B.
Cozy nice looking place to have a drink or some food. On the arrival we were told we can only sit in a certain area even though it was completely empty inside when we walked in and been told that we will not have table service so we have to order at the bar, but later on another table came in and they had a table service and we've been told it's because they have reserved a table before coming in.So the whole service concept was very confusing. Apart from that the staff was very nice and friendly and the drinks were nice too, so I would recommend visiting this place.
M. M.
Great food, great service and beautiful surroundings.
G. F.
Amazing location, Westend in Glasgow and very good food, beer and people.
L.
Nice place, we were seated out in the kind of garden room(?) but I think further inside looks nicer. The staff were more than helpful and the food was lovely, if a bit pricey. Overall, try it out!
M. L.
Really good find. Beautiful location, lovely space, really friendly staff, very efficient service, even though really busy. Cool relaxed atmosphere, good choice of food and beer. One of the nicest pots of mussels I've ever had.
M. S.
Always great food and friendly staff
G. L.
Lovely wee place beautiful garden set up
L. H.
Had a lovely lunch with my mum here. I had haddock risotto and Mum had chicken and vegetables. It was tasty and decent portions.
j.
Great garden and vibe for some drinks, food is nothing special and rather overpriced
K. B.
The macaroni was very good and I loved the bright atmosphere of the restaurant and the cocktail of the day was great also!
F. H.
What a nice place to go for food or drinks! Especially the desserts are so delicious! Gotta take the ice cream with an oyster waffle! The variety of drinks is huge.
s. F.
Real good food! This restaurant has beautiful astetics and is in one of the nicest areas of Glasgow astonlane in the west end. The food is also really good. It has good deals on before 6pm and a special fondue night on Tuesday, will definitely be thinking of trying this night myself.
C. L.
Good spot in Ashton Lane doing good Belgian beers and weird and wonderful fondues with cheese or chocolate to dip in!
G. M.
A tad expensive - that’s the West End for you I suppose. Staff were nice but I am in no rush to return.
R. M.
Absolutely brilliant! Great venue, lovely atmosphere, food was excellent but it was the staff that made, some of the best staff I've ever had the pleasure to meet. Looking forward to returning!
O.
nice back garden with open space and smiling service
G. C.
Lovely couple of hours spent here on a Sunday afternoon. Nice food and fantastic drink selection. The beers are wonderful.
L. A.
Amazing food! Mac and cheese is a winner, as is the gravy poutine! The outdoor space they have is really lovely
A wee let down during the evening was the trouble we had with the fire pit in the outdoor area. The flames were really weak and we informed the staff several times. Each time some came and fiddled about with it, which worked for a minute only for the flames to go low again. This went on for about an hour before my husband got the manager, who immediatly changed the gas bottle and sorted the issue.
Aside from this, it was a great evening and would recommend!
D. L.
Not really sure what bit of it is supposed to be Belgian but a nice bar otherwise! Great outdoor seating area complete with firepit. Nice indoor seating area. Friendly staff. Great location. The mussels (ok moules frites is pretty Belgian!) are good. Would definitely recommend. And the covid setup is good whilst not particularly intrusive.
A. V.
A nice and youthful place but the quality of the food and the service are not good. A perfect place to have a drink with friends but I don't recommend it for eating. Our glasses, cutlery and water jug were dirty.
L. (.
Good food, nice looking location, friendly waiters
H. H.
Eating out space was great, spacious and staff were friendly. Sadly food quality not the best although they did have quite a few gluten free options… which was good.
J. M.
Went to Brel for lunch yesterday. The service was outstanding; we had ordered the large moules frites to share between two but after tasting a couple, both myself and my friend agreed they tasted bitter and off. We told the staff and they quickly replaced it with two other mains of our choice in a really nice manner. We were also offered two complimentary deserts and went for DIY s'mores which were incredible! It would have been five stars if it hadn't been for the mussels as the staff were truly excellent.
L. P.
Lovey vibe. Drinks are affordable. Food is great aswell.
T. B.
Nice place to enjoy your coffee or brunch/lunch
M. L.
Went for lunch & really enjoyed it. The chicken caesar salad & french onion soup were wonderful. The menu has great options & I can't wait to go back when in Glasgow & try some more out. Great ambiance inside. Friendly staff. Good service.
A. J. R.
We sat outside for a delightful bottle of wine, the staff were lovely and welcoming, and I would generally hasten back. However, I am a little confused by the “system” for ordering drinks. Someone can stand at your table to take your order, someone will pass by every once in a while to ask whether you want anything else, and even come over for you to pay your bill. But you must wait until a number is called over a tannoy to then collect your drink yourself. You can have so much table service, but not when it comes to collecting your drink, which you must do yourself… following a supermarket announcement over a tannoy. Though this made for a mild larf at the table, it put me off staying for a second bottle. I suppose my liver would give a Brel five stars.
M.
Really wonderful atmosphere, the drinks system was a bit strange made me feel like I was in a bingo hall, seats were also a little too high not practical if you have arthritis like me. But all in all really amazing staff are so kind. It was about £50 for the night which is expensive but what I expected for the west end.
J. R.
Blown away by the service and quality of the food here on a midweek deal for mussels, fries and wine. Everything tasted amazing, food was fresh, wine was great. It was our first time there and we will definitely be back, the heated seating area outside to finish the wine after the meal topped it off with the blankets. Will be back so soon to try even more of the menu/1
I. M.
Went to Brel last year during Christmas. Alongwith my colleagues, we celebrated Christmas. For a student, the price quoted there can be a little on the expensive side but it's worth it when it comes to once in a lifetime experience. I remember having something from the veg section. It was good. I can definitely recommend this place to everyone who's looking for a good ambience and good celebration spot.
M. S.
Great restaurant with good food and a wide selection. I've eaten here several times for lunch and dinner, both the mussels and steak are great. They have a cozy indoor area and a lovely garden to use in spring and summer, it also concerts into a bar in the evening.
I've usually gotten good service here, but I have also encountered some waiters who just seemed uninterested (hence only 4 stars).
Altogether I would recommend trying out this place, it's situated in the cozy little street of asthon lane.
R. T.
A lovely little bar in Glasgows Westend. A bit strange at the mo with some of the rules due to covid but still had a great time. Sat it in the garden which was brilliant. Staff were good and friendly and there system of getting drinks is fast and efficient. The whole street that Brel is on is full of cool little bars
f. o.
Can't rate high enough. Fabulous staff, loved the beer garden. Had loads of cocktails and ended up staying all day.
I. S.
Went for food late on Saturday afternoon, the service was excellent despite the place being busy. The food was pretty good, my chicken Cesar salad was a little bland but not too bad, fries were good. My friend enjoyed her half pot of mussels. Nice atmosphere, if a little noisy.
A. M.
Had an indoor reservation for drinks. Lovely venue, great staff, clean toilets. Reasonably priced drinks and taste delicious. Would recommend the elderflower fizz 11/10.
N. C.
Great atmosphere, this is definitely a place to bring kids or a date. The inside is cozy and quiet but there is also an outside space with amphitheater like atmosphere. The menu is small and manageable with both exotic eats and old friends. Tuesday's are fondue night and there is also a fondue dessert menu. The service was slow though, to the point where we waited for over half an hour waiting for another drink or a bill. This is not to say anyone was impolite, they were all nice. Enjoyed Brel, and would go again.
A. S.
Have enjoyed this bar since it opened, many years ago.
They have done a wonderful job developing and improving over time, especially well prepared for these times.
D. B.
Great place. Only came here to say who ever ok’d the Grillo Scilia wine should seriously reconsider wine their choices for £20 you can get warm stale cider that tastes better.
M. M.
Excellent. Very highly recommended. Food and service were superb and we look forward to going back.
M. M.
The food is good and the staff are friendly, but when we went in for breakfast they were obviously struggling to cope with how busy it was. At one point the kitchen simply stopped taking new orders. It's a bit stressful wondering whether you should simply leave (as some people did)
R. R.
We had fish tacos for lunch two weeks ago, they have really good COVID care and of course the super Brel style, service and food is still there. Busy on The Hill, good to see folk enjoying this place I've been coming to for 20+ years.
B. S.
Went in for a beer and was pleasantly surprised with the beer menu. Good selection of the top Belgium beers.
C. M.
Nice atmosphere and decor. Food was okay. Nothing fantastic and a bit pricey for what it is. Fries with all our meals were almost cold. Immediately replaced, but should never have left the kitchen like that.
L. M.
We had the most amazing waitress ever in Sonia, she was attentive, good fun and polite. The food was excellent and we would highly recommend the Brel to everyone.
C. “. B.
We had an itison voucher for a main course and drink for two do £15 which was pretty good value. The food was good although we waited a bit for it to be brought out. Other food on the menu looks good too.
D. C.
Informal place, not much to write home about. Service by young people who seemed somewhat disinterested, the usual arrogance which is of course the norm in trendy places if they think you're not cool enough to be there. I shouldn't complain really, its to be expected.
The food that came through the dumb waiter, saved the whole experience. Seafood platter, mac n cheese and some other bits. My compliments to the chef..your attention to detail saved the rest of the team. 3 stars, could have so easily been 5..
H. N.
I previously posted that I hadn't been, now I have and it was okay but I won't be rushing back. The bar is pretty small and the choice of beer is not great. As somebody who drinks beer and not IPA or lager, on tap they had Guinness, I like Guinness but you have to be in the mood. When we arrived we asked if we needed to book a table for lunch as there would six of us. The bar staff said no, as long as we were happy to go outside. When everyone was there, we went outside and were told that they would not be able to give us a table for four hours. We left.
G. M. (.
Glad we came upon this cozy yet open resto bar. There's the obviously great beer selection, but I recommend the brunch more than anything for the sheer size of the menu. From Eggs Benedict to Southern Style Cheese Grits to Belgian Waffles, this place has enough good food too have you repeatedly ask for "just another few minutes". Service is friendly, and it's not too packed (at least on the Sunday I went.) 5 stars for being well above average.
S.
Outdoor space is great and the new system works well. Safety measures in place but still feels relaxed and enjoyable. Staff were lovely and the food was good too!
A. S.
Cosy atmosphere. Reserved a table for lunch on Saturday which unfortunately was right beside the till so was very noisy. I had the French onion soup which was tasty although lacked seasoning and was quite gravy'ish. Shared a full portion of mussels for main that also lacked seasoning although the mussels themselves were very good. That best part of the meal was the soda bread which came with both the soup and the mussels.
L. M.
Always a fan of Brel. Nice options for dinner for a good price. Cocktails are great too. Since the garden out the back has been done up it is even nicer. Loads of picnic tables and tables and chairs to sit at with nice landscaping, fairy lights and patio heaters.
A. K.
Nice bar, busy and full of students who are not the most self-aware but you gotta expect that in Ashton Lane. Staff were fine enough. Good selection of beer and spirits and nice nibbles. Enjoy going back once every few years.
J.
Got a table last minute on Friday night. Service and drinks were perfect but the langoustines weren't veined correctly don't recommend ordering them. The mussels and fries were amazing.
w.
Returned to Brel this evening after a 7 year hiatus and so pleased to witness it is still as popular as I remember. My wife and I only stayed for a couple of drinks and therefore I can't comment on the food. Was a very busy time of service (Sat evening) and front bar area was extremely busy requiring around 15 minutes to be served for drinks. Quality of drinks were good, if the usual expensive fare (just short of £10 for a pint of beer and a vodka mixer) in Ashton Lane, the west end of Glasgow city centre.
Great atmosphere in outside rear of venue, however, beware of attempting to traverse up the elevated section of the garden area if you don't have sensible footwear. Witnessed a couple of near-misses with people sliding down this section - drinks in hand. The plastic covering (protecting the grass) clearly requires replacement and is a health and safety disaster waiting to happen.
Great atmosphere, great location. IMHO, it's its location that makes Brel a venue which continues to appeal to generation after generation... I wonder if they still host live jazz on a Sunday? Bliss.
Brel, sort out the grassy area plastic covering before someone has a serious accident...
J. P.
Nice vibrant feeling bar with a good selection of craft beers and boutique gins. Sadly there was only one member of staff behind the bar all alone and too many customers but, pretty soon this number trebled suddenly...shift change perhaps?
Anyway, nice beer..although expensive, and a good feeling space within which to drink it. Didn't stay to try the food as were moving on to eat elsewhere.
M. G.
Great spot with outdoor seating. Good service. I visited on a Monday lunchtime - unexpectedly busy but they found me a table and service was good considering the numbers. Food good price and quality. Would definitely go back
F. T. T.
Have been a few times and the food is always fantastic! The menu is a bit limited but not sure if this is just due to Covid etc. The Mac and cheese is my favourite in Glasgow for sure!!
B. M.
Nice Bar/Restaurant. With some tasty food and a great outdoor seating area.
F. E.
Always bringing there my guests to surprise them how hip Glasgow can be.
J. D.
We booked a last minute table for two on Friday night. The place was heaving inside and out, but a great atmosphere.
Had to wait for 20 minutes for our table but the American waitress was so attentive and even gave us a complimentary drink for the delay.
Tuna nicoise was stunnning - perfectly cooked tuna steaks (beautifully pink in the middle) on a salad with potatoes, olives and sun dried tomatoes.
The chicken supreme with dauphinois potatoes was excellent too.
We ended up staying for another few drinks after dinner. The garden area is a cracking wee spot on a Friday night.
A. T.
Had a fantastic meal and the venue is great, staff attentive even though it was a very busy lunch service. Can't wait to come back during the summer days... if they ever arrive and enjoy the outside space.
A. M.
Popped in last thing on a Sunday night and staff were helpful and friendly. Service was quick and menu had good choices. Food arrived quickly and tasted great! The new garden looks fab and will be back to sit out in it!
K. H.
Just delicious 😋 Friendly staff, amazing food, good selection of drinks and very reasonably priced, especially the lunch deals. I love coming for lunch and sitting in the conservatory out back. Ok for evening drinks too, if there's not too many of you as the bar area is long and thin.
Y. C.
Score would have been higher as we love the food (especially the modules!) and general vibe at Break, having been here a few times, but this time we had a rather offhand waitress who served us and seems like everything was a hassle. She often didn't even acknowledge us. Seemed like she wasn't happy in her job but it's unprofessional to show this in front of customers. At the end she went into a totally different "mood", all bubbly and asking us the same questions she asked every other table when they were leaving. Felt very impersonal, like she was going through the motions. It won't stop us coming back but certainly took the shine off this time.
C. B.
Good vibe, brill location... Let down by the fondue... Fairly sure they are meant to be made with white wine and cheese. Our one tasted like just cheese rather than a traditional fondue. Maybe just not to our taste 🤔
G. P.
Great place for food and drink, nice atmosphere, friendly helpful staff would recommend.
C. T.
I celebrated my 30th birthday at Brel because I've always been a fan of the venue and I love what's been done with the place following the refurbishment. The food is always excellent and the staff are so friendly, plus the atmosphere is nice and relaxed. We also loved the music playing the whole night! I had a great birthday there in the heated patio which I would recommend to anyone looking for a laid back party venue. The staff offered to help decorate the place for me and explained the party would need to move into the conservatory at 11pm due to their licence which made sense. The only reason I'm not giving Brel 5 stars is that my party was forced to leave the venue an hour before the expected time due to the main bar being very quiet for a Saturday night, at the manager's discretion. When you've paid a lot of money to hire the place until the advertised time, this is very frustrating as it changes everyone's plans, and it wasn't communicated that this might have been a possibility. Plus there were still 30 people willing to spend more money at the bar for the next hour. However, after this blip, the staff were really helpful by allowing me to keep decorations there while we moved onto another venue, and I easily collected them the following day. Overall, I would recommend Brel as one of the highlights of the West end, and if you haven't tried their Halloumi Burger then you had better get on it!
A. M.
Place is great. My favorite in Ashton lane. Drinks good, restaurant is great, the garden amazing. The only thing is that sometimes service at the bar is quite long and is they are full, they do not serve you some dips from the bar (you have to ask to the restaurant and restaurant says to the bar..??)
M. S.
Stopped here for lunch, attracted by the Belgian/European menu. Tasty food, friendly service and a good atmosphere. Would make a point to revisit when next in Glasgow.
E. M.
Overall the food was reasonabley priced though the drinks a bit pricey. A pleasant place to sit and eat with friends providing the waitress doesn't forget to put your order in! After an hour wait we got the meal however the customer service was lacking, a simple explanation and apology or perhaps a complimentary drink would have been more welcoming.
D. B.
Ok bar.
Slow service whereby you wait 20 mins or get served within 30. There is no middle ground.
Lovely space outside
Never eaten here
Always seems busy
Good for the first drink of the day in the sun.
Wouldn't rush in but worth swinging by.
W. C.
Staff and venue great. Bit of a restricted menu after lockdoen but still great food and service. Would have been nice to maybe have a choice of wine.
B. B.
Amazing beer garden for the 1 day a year Glasgow gets nice weather. Good beer choices, reasonably priced for the area and friendly staff. Haven’t tried the food but it looks good.
S.
The fondue was very tasty. We had it with the meat board and a side of fries which went great. It was pretty busy so we were glad we made a reservation.
M. N.
Raclette time!🎉👌 It was a very good time in Brel...the food was amazing and the place too! It is highly recommended!!
B.
I only recently discovered the delights of Brel after being invited along for the relaunch when it was bought over and then again to sample their Christmas menu.
The food was delicious both times, I particularly loved the ribs at the launch party and the beef brisket with truffle mash at Christmas was divine! I wonder if that might stick around on the normal menu or come back next year - I'll have to check it out soon as I'd love that again! They also had hot mulled cider which was so delicious and I was very impressed with the roast turkey (I tasted Roz's) as I would never usually order that on a festive menu but this was actually lovely, very tender and not at all dry!
I can't wait for the summer when we can enjoy being in the beer garden, not just admiring the pretty lit up trees from the conservatory. :)
M. B.
Lots of good Belgian beers but they're quite expensive and the bar is super slow if it's busy. Best during the week if it's not sunny! Also, dog friendly.
W.
Great decor here, comfy seats, massive food and drinks menu. Staff are attentive but usually have an air of "I'd rather be elsewhere" in their service. Food is a little pricey, and okay. Better burgers elsewhere.
F. E.
Delicious food, the langoustine especially was so tasty. They also make a nice strawberry daiquiri. The service is friendly and professional and the decor is great, would definitely recommend!
C. H.
Its not often i drink anywhere else on Ashton lane. Consistently great pub for ages now. Great range of beers - a beer garden for the summer months and decent pub grub for when you need to stuff your face. Always busy so be prepared to wait for a table at peak times.
D. M.
Great beer, great food, great atmosphere. Try the halloumi burger, it's delicious. I'm not vegetarian, so I sometimes order it with extra crispy pancetta, just to see the confused look on the server's face (actually I do it because it's a good combination)
J. R. S.
Amazing food and lots of draft beers to choose from!
A. H.
Nice atmosphere but food won't blow you away. Quite pricey but you are in the West End. I can't think of a reason I would personally go back, but that is my opinion.. Worth trying out if you like crowded bars filled with people trying little bit too hard.
S. D.
A mainstay of Ashton Lane for many years, Brel has always been a great place to visit for a treat. Great selection of Belgian and world beers, great moules frites and other Belgian inspired meals.
Not cheap, but not crazy expensive for a quality eatery in the west end. Drinks are probably the hardest price to swallow as they are priced as if it was still the 90s and interesting beers weren't available in every supermarket.
F. G.
Great bar in a great location. Sadly the staff(young hipsters) give the impression that youre spoiling their day by asking for a drink and yes you have to ask them. Then they proceed to get it ever so slowly and in as surly a manner possible. Maybe this is what passes for cool now but it is very irritating. Im 64 but really like this pub and I know many friends who drink here who agree that it is ageism. When young good looking women come in they cant move quick enough. So shallow, better off at Innis and Gunn across the lane

Lovely afternoon, great service, super food. The conservatory out the back is lovely and bright, perfect for a girlie afternoon. The outside area looks lovely for a sunny day.
A. E.
This is a perfect spot for uni students and food aficionados. Bargain lunches at £6 that come with sides and a drink as well as the biggest pot of mussels you could imagine for dinner at only £12. The service is always lovely and the greenroom dining area is a nice place to warm up in this windy city. Definitely recommend!
E. S.
Sat in the magical garden in glorious sunshine ! Wonderful , quiet, pretty and a great place to sup lovely wine
d. B.
Avoid when it's busy. You either get served in 30 seconds of 18 mins later you cut your losses and go anywhere else.
Great location outside for suntrap and beer garden.
No conjoined thinking.
Never eaten here but if you wanna pay £5 for a plastic cup of beer or cider this is deff the place to do so IN Ashton lane!
M. R.
I guess fine if you're drinking. Kinda just felt like spoons tho. My cone of chips was garb. Staff were perf.
E. M.
Decent service, comprehensive menu, attentive staff and drinks were top notch
M. M.
Nice pub with outdoor seating. Good selection of Belgian beers (as expected when called Brel). However, slightly on the pricier end of the spectrum.
A. G.
Place was busy but food service could have been quicker, we were waiting for a table for 10 min as members of staff walked past and ignored us. Food was good though and the Easter fondue special was nice too.
D. A.
Fire pit was great! Hot chocolate and marshmallows can never be bad to be fair but they were generous with the marshmallows so thumbs up 🤣
C. W.
My son's favourite place. He always takes me here when we are in the west end. Good food and atmosphere. Toilets are too awkward to get to. Too many stairs
J. G.
My favourite restaurant in Glasgow. Moules frites - red pepper and chorizo is simply one of the best meals I've ever had! Great selection of beers and a good atmosphere and service as well.
B. “. D.
Great atmosphere. Lovely staff. Great selection of drinks.
R. C.
Great food and excellent service
J. B.
Good atmosphere, like most places on Ashton lane. Decent selection of beers... not so much on the wine front. Food was decent for the price.
J. M.
The poutine are amazing. Highly recommend trying them.
M. M.
Great atmosphere with great beer, excellent staff for a casual dining experience. Also, a great pub for a few beers with your mates. Highly recommended west end gastro pub.
b.
Nice location in Ashton Lane!
When sunny it's awesome! Ashton Lane in the sun is amazing all the bars spill out into the street. With brel completely opening up so the bar can be seen very inviting.
Out the back is brel's biggest strength! Huge (in comparison) beer garden with chairs, grass, benches, heat lamps, picnic tables and the sun for most of the day!
Obviously since it gets the sun all day it gets pretty busy pretty quickly and finding a seat can be difficult!
The drinks are more on the dearer side but pretty varied and service is relatively quick.
There is food options as well but since brel is an oyster bar a lot of the food is fish related and I am not a big fish lover!
C. C.
Good to be able to have dinner and beer in nice surroundings. Staff are lovely
P. S.
Great place. Nice food. Well-priced. A pity the cheese fondue is not available in single portions; next time I'll bring a companion - and hopefully they will want fondue 😋
D. C.
The fondue is a cheese sauce and not a very good one at that. The bread was stale and stodgy and the place is kind of grubby. Needs a good clean and new furniture as it's all broken and uncomfortable.
H. E.
Always have the best time here! The drink and atmosphere are fab. Only down side is that the bar staff can be a bit slow at service, but that's more down to how crowded the bar area can be.
F. S.
Fantastic staff, excellent location and brilliant experience. We went for drinks and the whole experience was enjoyable and well organised. Thank you!
P. C.
The adults meals were lovely but two out of four of the childrens meal were not great. We all had to keep our coats on during lunch as it was so cold.
J. G.
Great out door venue for food and top class beers, friendly atmosphere top class 👌
A. C.
The staff was really nice and polite. The cheese fondue was good and it has the best atmosphere to go with either family or friends! I would go back there.
A. S.
Excellent Belgian restaurant, with lovely atmosphere. I know they're known for their mussels but trust me, their mac and cheese is a must try too.
K.
Popular West End pub restaurant with Belgian flavour. Plenty of expensive foreign beers, nice rustic style decor and includes beer garden. Located in Ashton Lane so quite cosmopolitan. Student / professional customers.
C. J.
Food was decent, but service was ok. Two wait staff seemed to be not wanting to be there at all, quite abrupt at getting us off the table and dismissive
H. T.
Decent food, good relaxing atmosphere, friendly staff. Have been a few times now and would go again 👍🏽
P. G.
The restaurant had a real buzz about it, helpes by beautiful Glasgow weather. We ate mussels with soda bread which were delicious. Would live to visit again
c. m.
Great bar and outdoor space to have a few drinks in. Staff are friendly and theyre is a good amount of places to sit! Arrive early on a sunny day for a coveted spot in the garden!
D. R.
Love this place. Food amazing but drinks very pricey. £19 for a bottle of wine is not really giving value for money :(
A. Q.
Thoroughly enjoyed Brel, lovely beer garden and is great when the weather is nice. Didn't order food but it looked lovely, only downside is it is not on the cheap side.
M. H.
Brel has a few Belgium beers, not that many, but a few. My friends and I ordered Chimay. It was severed to us with a standard wine glasses. Very disappointing.
Apart from that it's a nice bar. A bit pricy though.
V. T.
Highly recommend the moules frites! They're £6 before 18.00
M. A.
Sometimes it's great. Sometimes it's not so great. Food is almost always very nice but sometimes it arrives cold. Staff can be very attentive, but on occasion I've felt that their delivery of customer service has let them down
K. H.
Bright and airy restaurant. Interesting menu. Mussels (natch) burgers and good veggie options. Seemed very welcoming for young families
G. M.
Was here for a 40th birthday party, big crowd all looked after very well. Loved the fire pit. Menu was great and catered well for vegetarians and coeliacs.
V. C.
Very pleasant bistro and bar behind Byres Road .Usually pretty busy, but good cheerful service .Lovely mussels and excellent draft beers! Good value!!
S. M.
Wonderful, had the meat platter with cheese fondue. Bread was amazing too, service was high quality.
D. T.
Nice place to get a drink and eat. Staff attentive and friendly. Marked down for gents toilets. Both toilets need to flush properly. Grim
G. P.
Very nice place with a good choice of food and drinks (both good). The terrace is lovely for chilling outdoors. Friendly and efficient staff.
J. L.
I love Brel, it is one of my favourite bars, however on my last visit on Friday afternoon, the service was very poor and slow. Bit disappointing, the food was delicious but the time of service a little off putting.
M. W.
A very nice bar and restaurant good beer and food and beverages and very friendly staff
S. M.
Food was better than expected to be honest. Couple of down sides but nothing to shout about. Chilled vibe. Would definitely return to seek that extra star!
L. F.
Not the best, service can be slow an laboured. Menu is limited, seating area is very basic. Fourth visit here, but sorry it seems to get worse each time
J. C.
I won a voucher for the Brel & was the family & I in for very a good night. Great starters soup of the day for me & crisp baby squid nice little spice kick with this starter. Main for myself was the Brelburger with frites Jambon frites & and on spacial was Lobster. With a nice helping of ice cream for the wee wan to finish off with. Will be going back..
F.
The food here is below average and way overpriced. Staff is nice and their garden is pretty tho.
E. M.
It was good fun and had a super awesome vibe but the drinks were expensive and not ideal for students.
J. S.
Love Brel. Great selection of drinks. Food amazing. Indoor and outdoor areas lovely. Staff fantastic.
A. M.
Excellent food and great a selection of quality beers on choice. Lunch time offers some very good value menu choices.
G. R. H.
This place are very nice! ✨
I had a good time here with a friend when I went to Glasgow. Attention is fine and the space is cozy.
M. G.
Average place which survives because of its excellent location. Food uninspiring but entirely edible. An OK place but not in my top 10.
R. O.
Great food and really big selection of drinks...Always run out of my favourite in the menu, please have more langoustines! ;-)
g. h.
A place for mussels. The other food is good, but secondary to good Scottish mussels. To be enjoyed, because they're fab.
S. W.
This place has just been recently done up and the interior is great! Very modern and cool. It has a great beer garden for those sunny afternoons!
L. W.
Great food and gray service. Go before six pm during the week and get a half portion of moules & frites for £6
B. W.
Chuffin' brel!
Great wee place. Worth booking ahead to get an outside space. Don't be Billy big baws and go steaming in on the 8 percenters... Trust me on this one.
Q. N.
Such lovely staff / really went out of their way to accommodate us during a busy weekend!
P. G.
Nice place for a beer with friends. I haven't tried the food.
