Great atmosphere on game days, right up the Gallowgate near the barras. Typical old man pub 35ml measures. Right across from Morrisons so if you need any quick munchies, fags....whatever it's right across the road. A few takeaways n restaurants around to so if you get to fuu don't worry, plenty of options plus it's maybe only a 10/15 min walk into the town centre.

Agree with other reviewer who would give it 5 if it had real ale. Lovely old pub in an 18th Century building. A bit of an oasis in an area of football themed bars. There's fantastic history in how it got its name. Friendly atmosphere and very pleasant staff.

Fantastic bar staff who know how to run a proper pub. This is a trait that the majority of bars in Glasgow do not possess. Very attentive and friendly. Welcoming atmosphere/punters and always a joy to visit.

A pub I don't visit often off but out of this world lined with books has no television and the music comes from the radio an absolutely wonderful place to go and chill I think it would particularly great for a new couple getting to know each other to go and chill out and talk

To say this is the best pub along the Gallowgate is to do it scant justice as its competitors are largely match-day feeding time at the zoo bars. However, Billy Gold's hostelry gets my 5 stars for being one of my favourite pubs in the city, visited generally after watching a Celtic victory. It doesn't require distractions like television, jukebox or pub games to please the customers but the staff provide a warm welcome and, despite a lack of cask ale (deduct half a star!), beer - including good quality Guinness - is at reasonable prices. Recommended.
