Reviews of Hillhead Bookclub
İ. Ü.
Hillhead Bookclub is a nice pub with tasty cocktails but don't expect the menu to be very cheap. The place is very warm and cozy. They have arcade games, table tennis etc. which makes it a good place to come with friends, if you are looking for a bit more than drinking/eating. They do have bit of a problem with table service. They take quite long to go around tables and take orders but I give that to lack of staff and restrictions. Apart from that very nice place and nice cocktails, will visit again.

Clearly and without a doubt 5🌟s 🤩🙌 stunning location indoors and super good food and service. It has all you need and also the beer 🍺 I had was amazing. Fruity and just a bit bitter - for me the perfect mix after a long day on the motorcycle.
The cauliflower was brilliant 😍👍 sweet and spicy and just the right amount- thanks for giving us a great time folks 🥳

This is a lovely place for food and drink, done up with shabby and quirky styling, despite being owned by G1 Group. There’s a large outdoor seating area and inside there are lots of nooks and places to sit.
The menu has a great selection, especially for vegans and vegetarians. The drinks selection is decent - some of the larger cocktails come in gramophones, as an Instagram-worthy gimmick.
The atmosphere inside is great - a good noise level but booths mean you can still have a decent conversation.
The service was really good - timely, friendly and attentive.
The only negative is that we had tried to call to book and had left 2 voicemails but with no response. We’re lucky there was a booth available for us on the night. I know things are busy but if you don’t respond to messages then you’ll be missing out on custom!

Absolutely loved this bar, we were planning on doing a bar crawl, this was our 2nd stop and turned into our last stop, stayed the whole night because we didn't want to leave. Great staff, and the vibe was just so friendly and fun. Amazing night.
l. d.
Brilliant decor, had to ask what the building was before. You would never have guessed it was a cinema. You could happily buy a book from Waterstones across the road and lose yourself in a novel and a pint here .
G. G.
Great bar/restaurant, really friendly staff who were attentive and the service was excellent. Very reasonably priced food and drink. I also took a pic of the Vectrex I noticed, a peace of home gaming history for those of you who know 😁 Highly recommended!
M. M.
I usually enjoy coming here but this time the service was quite off. After we finished our food we were expecting them to come over and maybe ask for dessert or more drinks but instead they just handed us the bill. We hadn’t even asked for it yet so it felt very abrupt as I was still wanting a drink. So after we had paid the bill I went up to the bar to order a drink but the guy said it was just table service and that someone would just bring it over. 15 minutes later it wasn’t there so we just assumed they’d forgotten and we left (nothing was paid for yet though). Aside from that we all enjoyed our meal.

Hillhead is one of my favorite bars. They do amazing food and drinks and the ambience is 10/10. Between the giant disco ball, great decor, and ping pong tables you can spend hours there. It doesn't get full marks though because the service is slow and it's hard to find a table as a walk-in on busy nights.
K. S.
First visit even though I had heard lots about this place. Came for lunch. Decor very cool. Service great. Seafood open sandwich with skinny fries delicious.
Looking forward to coming back at night
A. V.
A very charming place where enjoy a good cocktail or a beer. Inside the ambiance is relaxing, with soft lights and seems like to be in a old library. When the sun is shining is also possible to have a good plate in the exterior gazebos.
M. B.
I love this place! The food is amazing, the service is fantastic and the atmosphere is relaxed. The staff are very helpful and friendly - they go above and beyond to make sure everything is just right 😊
C. B.
Very cool bar with a nice beer garden area. The menu caters for vegans with lots of options, but also fish and meat dishes. The vegan jackfruit bao buns were really tasty. The cocktail menu is very good, I enjoyed a pineapple and basil mojito!
L. F.
Been here loads over the years, still a great place. Some furnishings need to be updated and steam cleaned. There was a bit of an odd smell when I visited this time
All that aside it is still a great concept.
D. L.
Good atmosphere and nice setting. A little out of the way if you're sitting upstairs to go down to the bar if its busy inside. Good range of cocktails from classics to house specialities
S. B.
Very friendly staff.
Delicious food - steak was perfectly cooked (MR). Very reasonably priced for the West End!
Would recommend.
A. Y.
Lovely quirky atmosphere in a great location just off Byres Road. The staff were great but the food was a bit ordinary and a predictable menu.
C. P. (. M.
Great food, and brilliant choice of drinks. I adore the atmosphere, and the ping pong table is amazing!
M. B.
Great atmosphere and good food - a mix of vegan/veggie and omni food. We had Saturday brunch and enjoyed the tunes the DJ was playing. Interesting decor with lots of recycled stuff.
R. R.
Delicious mojitos and amazing ambience 💕

Came here for some late evening drinks with some friends. The interior is quite quirky with the bar set over 2 levels. The lower level has a hipster layout as befits the bohemian west end of Glasgow. The upper level has lots of booth style seating and tables for eating or just drinking. The upper level is also relatively open with views of the lower levels from the atrium.
We only came for drinks. There a reasonable selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Cocktails were tasty but pricey, the red wine was considered okay.
N. M.
The food here is extraordinary and it's completely accessible! Disabled toilet when you come in through the door and most of the food is vegan or can be made vegan. Staff are super lovely and the inside is so nice!
D. M.
Great bar and the staff are great but annoyed with the 10% service charge added to the bill which you have to ask to have removed. It’s the little things like this that let places down. Yea it’s been hard during COVID for bars but don’t force customers to have to pay to make up for it.
N. W.
Great atmosphere, great food and friendly waiters. Definitely worth a visit for anyone wanting a unique location.
A. S.
We didn’t order any food so can’t advice on that. I had a jezebelle’s daiquiri and was very tasty. The place was quite empty on a Sunday evening, but the building is nice. They have ping pong tables and some comfortable couches. They allowed dogs inside which is good if you are a dog owner, but maybe a bit unpleasant if you are not.
W. C.
Beer selection was good and the arcade games are a cool touch. Really great place to go with a group of friends. The cocktail menu also looks interesting. This place does a boozy brunch on the weekends.
E. C.
It's always such a good vibe in there, the food is tasty and filling and let's not forget how great that 20% student discount is! It's also dog friendly (please make a student's day by bringing your dog in with you)
D. C.
We had a lovely Sunday brunch here today. Food was delicious, not too pricey (usual for West End) and the staff were pleasant and efficient. If you do go, however, ask not to be seated at table 1; it is directly below a speaker which makes conversation difficult and when we visited the light above the table was fitted with a really harsh LED lamp. I suppose we could have asked to be moved but, well, we didn't.
A. M. S.
Food was excellent but seem to be struggling with having enough staff today so service not as slick as sometimes.
S. M.
Its a lovely wee place. Even the smoking area looks pretty and cosy. So much to do as well, arcade games, board games, books, ping pong, etc. Really friendly staff too
l. k.
Nice atmosphere. Friendly staff, quick service
C. Y.
Canadian girl as foh was very friendly in a theatre kind of way but decent, food was alright but the menu titling was so cringe “food you wished your maw makes” like give it a rest man
C. v. D.
Great restaurant/bar, beautiful discoball and a dj! Cocktails are delicious and reasonably priced (most at 8). 20% Student discount on food and beer!
F. W.
Great at lunchtime mid-week. Less crowded & noisy then, good food too.
Y. S.
Great food really big portions, nice atmosphere & architecture inside.
P.
Went there a couple of times for brunch, the food is usually pretty decent. The atmosphere is excellent, super chill and trendy.
h.
nice place,
little pricey
G. D.
Overpriced food which was nice, but for a place like this it could be so much better. It was an old cinema, but turned into a restaurant bar about 20 years ago or so. The ceiling is fab and the table tennis table in a cage is a nice touch.
S. R.
Really cool interior, good cocktails, could do with a beer selection of craft beer
m. a.
Great meal. Lovely staff. Nice wine
R. M.
Great atmosphere and music. Full vegetarian menu that's great value for money. Nice selection of drinks to choose from.
R. T.
Loved this place ! Decoration is awesome. Unfortunately the arcade games weren't on when we went and the ping pong table was fully booked up. Clean tables and bloody good cocktails. There were alot of staff mingling around and it took a while to get served (you also couldn't really tell who worked there and who didnt), but once we were served the barman didn't have one of the spirits for a cocktail but suggested a custom made alternative that turned out to be better than the original order, and we we're waited ob regularly from then on. We'll definitely visit again. Thanks.
N. G.
Great ambiente, good music, awesome drinks, no regrets. 10/10 would visit again!
Check the cocktails, theyre awesome!
C. T.
A gentleman had a dizzy spell on Byres Rd falling and gashing his head quite severely. The young woman on duty went out of her way to help this gentleman, including bringing him a chair and first aid kit amongst other things until the ambulance came. Your employer should be really proud of you.
H. V.
The music was extremely loud, and it was unclear how we were supposed to order food. A barman said we needed to just "grab a server". Even so, the food was decent, and the atmosphere was lively for a Thursday night.
S. D.
Best pub in the west end very student friendly and with nice student discounts.
M. N.
The food was great and reasonably priced, as are their drinks. The Strawberry mojito (vodka) was only 3 pound and delicious. Not heavy or rum based though. Service was nice.
J. M.
Planned a surprise 30th here on a Saturday for 30 people and we all had a fantastic time. The management is top notch and the staff were helpful. Not to mention the buffet food options (which were 80% vege /vegan options) was tasty af. One of the most common comment we got from guests was how nice the food was 😍
G. M.
Average establishment - much the same as most other venues in the surrounding area. Nothing in particular stands out about this place to me.
D. M.
Nice atmosphere. Wasn't too busy. Roof architecture was interesting.
c. n.
absolutely lovely and the drag queens really put on a show to remember! I would recommend this place to all my friends if you want to go out and have a blast.
J. M.
Omg drag bingo get yourself to next one
A. K.
Yet another fantastic soulful dining in Glasgow West End, loved the deco, great vibe and lovely staff 😉
H. W.
My friend and I popped into hillhead book club for some cocktails and light bites.
The staff were all amazing, friendly, helpful, personal and funny. They recommended great cocktails that did not disappoint!
Light bites were also amazing!
Big thanks to, Simon,Cat, Amy, Dave and Maria
All round a great spot 😊
D. C.
Great place for drinks, shall be back!
J. G.
Very cozy place for drinks with friends! Gets a bit crowded during the evenings but is a very good place to meet and have conversations.
B. O.
Pleasant environment, has seating outside which is nice, weather permitting!
C. B.
A Glasgow west end classic and staple. A sign of a good bar when locals and tourists are both there every night.
M. S.
We sat outside on our visit to the book club, and after spending 30-40 minutes we decided to eat elsewhere. Took a while for the drinks to be served, and the food menu screamed "we don't know what our specialty is so we'll do a little bit of everything". Prices seemed fair for the quality. Quite a young "pre-drink" type of location, which if your thing I'm sure is great.
L. T.
Average food, pricy drinks but good vibes
T. 1.
Different to the usual places. Nice for a couple of pints.
A. L.
This place has a beautiful interior (formerly a theater), plus great food at reasonable prices. I would love to return!
J. T.
Great place to go for drinks, with comfortable seats, music, and even a table tennis table
M.
Cracking food, decent beer, staff were sound and gave us free onion rings to make up for being our of the cheddar/beef nuggets. Recommend the Bao Buns. Dog friendly as well.
S. W.
Great place with plenty tables. Dog friendly inside too!
K. M.
Double check your bill we had items we didn’t order on it. Food is average / ok nothing to particularly write home about. The loos smelt like those of a weatherspoons at 2am on a Sunday .... bad.
E. K.
I popped in here with my mum the other day and was so pleasantly surprised by how lovely it was. Staff were super friendly and the food was really good. We will definitely be back.
V. T.
Beautiful building, great use of space and amazing drinks.
c. m.
Great quirky bar with lots of space. Can get busy, bookong advised for food at the weekend. Try the cocktails!
W. M. M.
Brilliant!! Got the Goan Curry and Vegan fish & chips... Service was great, really friendly staff and thoroughly enjoyed the music and ping pong table!! ☺
S.
Nice food, sadly slow service. Not the fault of the waitress. She was all alone having to serve a lot of tables.
D. I.
We came here because they have a lot of interesting and creative vegetarian and vegan food options. We ordered the seitan schnitzel and weren't disappointed; good portion size, creative corn ribs and flavours but the schnitzel itself was a bit dry and tough to cut through. Also, had a great dessert. Friendly and attentive staff, not to mention the amazing location and setting/decor!
j. m.
Spent a few hours sampling festive cocktails. Really enjoyed the atmosphere.
I. M.
Absolutely loved this place! The food is fantastic, the best donor kabab I have ever had was their vegan version of the dish. There is a large selection of wines, beers, spirits and cocktails.
They are priced competitively for the area.
The staff are very friendly and helpful.
They seem to pride themselves on their music, which is quite justified.
L. M.
The food was, unfortunately, not always a good show in the house. There's a stylish and curious interior to admire, with artistic presentation reminding us of the reminisce of that retro-fitted cinema. We had a burger with a tasty and meaty patty, but the shakshuka was served with overly fried eggs in some plain tomato sauce without herbs or vegetables. One slice of tasteless white bread sat on the plate, which didn't console the eggs that were fried into the black of their pan.
The second showing of patatas bravas was equally plain potatoes in an identical sauce to the shakshuka. The bookclub looks like a nice bar or cocktail perch, but I'd recommend waiting until the restaurant does some reading before visiting for anything other than a burger.
W.
Nice atmosphere, spacious and decent prices for drinks.
Woeful Sunday Roast. For £12.95, the portion was tiny, (resembling a generous starter), the chicken was cold, bland and dry, the sides were tasty but rationed, gravy was a mere splash and there was no Yorkshire pud in sight. Was left hungry.
I expected better, food I've seen previously here look great. Maybe a bad day.
R. M.
Great decor and vibe. Good menus. Table tennis upstairs and all round good place.
N. C.
Pros : Nice atmosphere and a great range of vegan options.
Fairly pricey for what you get however the chips are the best i've had.
Cons: Toilets were not clean,
service could be improved, although the staff were polite I was served food (not chips) without cutlery or sauce etc. A friend had her plate taken away when she wasn't finished eating. The music was very loud so i struggled to hear people.
This isn't the kind of place i'd go for a meal its more of a pub with (overpriced) food.
E. F.
Visited for our office Christmas lunch. The food was delicious and we had a great time!
R. W.
I have never had a bad experience in this venue. The food is superb and the staff are extremely nice and know about accessibility. They are very observant when I may need help, being disabled I sometime need assistance carry drinks to a table and such.
This is a wonderful and friendly place. However the music can get in the way of chat with friends although this is the case for most bars especially on a weekend.
Despite that minor flaw the venue is brilliant and comes Neighbourhood recommended.
If it was possible to keep the disabled toilets unlocked that would be ideal! Just as I have had to sometimes make my way through crowds of people to get a staff member to open the toilet for me when they have to leave there post behind the bar.
Although there always happy and willing to assist.
Can’t say enough wonderful things about this place! Have a look for yourself!
D. B.
Decent enough spot.
Chefs all smoke, all food under seasoned.
Cheap and cheerful.
Mediocre staff.
Service ropey if smiley when it comes.
T. R.
Good food, polite staff. Didn't have to wait long and any problems were quickly resolved. A pleasant experience.
C. C.
Cracking location for food and a wide range of beers with bonus of being dog friendly 👌
O. V.
Good venue, cool interior, let down by slow service. That little bit too long to get us seated (venue was still fairly empty), too long for our order to be taken, way too long for our food to be ready. We were seated by the door which doesn't close properly so there was a constant cold draft. Food was disappointing - portion size could have been better. The "avocado" toast had about 1/4 avocado on two pieces of toast. Overall has potential, but some major issues in the service and food department.
G. T.
Lovely food and service. Stunning building and fabulous atmosphere.
K. M. M.
West end establishment, very nice decor, wee bit standard
S. D.
Amazing Bar. Ping Pong, Haircuts, Nintendo. Favorite bar in Glasgow
S. G.
Very cool place to drink. Go up find your standard selection of drink so that isn't the allure.
The setting is different. It's an old converted building with an open too layout from inside. On the top floor there are video games and table tennis with ample seating.
Good vibes at the weekend and great place to start the night or be a meeting point.
M. M.
Just what pub should be great sound system and music with a very well stocked bar and one of the best menus with plenty of outside seating with cover
S. K.
Fun place to grab a drink and/or dinner! Dinner was delicious with plenty of vegetarian/vegan options alongside the meat. Cocktails were tasty and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Heads up, the menu is changing after 09July19, though based on what we had, can’t wait to see it!
J. P.
Mind-blowing food - especially the KFC starter, tasty cocktails (try the pineapple mojito) and a warm atmosphere. Would recommend to anyone going to Glasgow.
D. O.
Such a cool place full of character and oozing with charm. I go here quite often after a long day at uni and it is the perfect place to chill out and listen to good music. The staff are really great and they run some good cocktail deals! I haven't eaten here yet but a few of my friends have and the food always looks really good. I do believe there is quite a variety after having looked at the menu on many occasions but then deciding that 'eating is cheating'! Love it here, I hope to return again and again and hopefully attend one of the crazy events that I have heard about such as the drag queen bingo or the BYOB nights!
B. H.
I usually really like this place but have been a couple of times lately and the experience has been below par. This time it was getting our order wrong, slow services (to start) and some issues with how the menu is put together. The menu was confusing and we ordered something that didn't come as expected. First server got drinks order wrong and he replacement ended up chasing around fixing it. We were sat down at a table but no cutlery or place settings there (which is the usual here) and had to ask for basics such as cutlery and salt/pepper. Not a bad experience but definitely not as good as it used to be.
D. L.
Nice place to visit for a quiet drink with friends.
s. m.
Yet another excellent meal in the book club. Attended the vegan beer match night with a friend and it was spot on. More events like this please 😊. Great food choices and I loved the home brew beer. Compliments to the chefs and our waitress Ruby who was friendly and warm. Would definitely recommend.
G. W.
Busy bar, but good atmosphere
C. B.
Very nice place. However we had a one bad meal, which was replaced and partially refunded. Everything else was superb.
Four of us booked in and had three course meal. All good was excellent apart from the pork belly, which was the worst pork belly i have ever had (too much fat, it wasn't cooked properly and the accompanying sweet potato thing was very dense and tasted like it was reheated). I explained to waitress and manager and it was replaced quickly enough with the chicken which was amazing. 10% was taken off food bill. All in all it was a great night.
K. &. B.
Fantastic architecture and restored building, even with a dedicated table tennis zone, great atmosphere cool place to hang out
A. W.
The atmosphere here is outrageously cool. Brunch food and coffee drinks were not overly priced and completely delicious. I have yet to come for dinner, but I came in for a drink and and was impress with their mix drink menu, If not the price. The venue seems to do a good job of community events with what seemed like two or three events each week in June.
J. M.
Great staff, great atmosphere, great selection of drinks, great food at good prices. Often missed place among the others in Hillhead. Well worth a visit and great character of an old cinema with a classic gaming place for kids big and small. Did I say how good the staff were? Always a treat to go here.
O. H.
Unique venue, very atmospheric and cozy. Good range of drinks, food is good quality pub grub. The free-to-play retro consoles and ping pong table are nice touches. Can get very busy with students, but it's fairly large and you can usually squeeze into a table somewhere.
S. M.
Nice place, good food and reasonable prices although a bit slow and noisy in the evening.
G. M.
Dog friendly and comfortable . The service was good and friendly and the food was delicious but took quite a while to arrive. My only complaint was that for a Sunday afternoon the music was far too loud. Good music but I don't think you should have to shout over music at lunchtime . I'll be back
M. G.
I joined some friends at this fantastic place not knowing what to expect, bit was pleasantly surprised to find one of the best pubs I have ever been to. The building itself is a work of art and it has been very tastefully decorated as well. Service is friendly and efficient and there is a laidback chic to the place that definitely warrants a visit. Ping pong is a nice touch even if you don't splay; it really adds to the ambiance. Check it out!
E. M. (. M.
Lovely atmosphere and fab staff. Unfortunately most of the vegan options had run out so disappointed but staff did their best to rustle up a vegan brunch. Also air con is not the best on a hot day. Really nice place though x x
P. B.
Dog friendly.
Class joint, love the interior of this place, very relaxed, always seems a cool clientele up for a chat.
Friendly staff and reasonably priced drinks, food looks awesome too.
Our go to place when out around Byres Road.
D. W.
Nice pub serving some food and enjoyable cocktails. Retro gaming, table tennis and other nice activities available in there.
S. C.
I love the vibe in here, it's very alternative. They have these incredible comic books about the venue on the tables that I absolutely loved reading. My only complaint is that it's a bit too dark all the time and the food portions are small
R. P.
A really great atmosphere here, would recommend a visit.
K. D.
How did I not come here sooner?? I had a great evening meal and drinks here, Mid week on a Tuesday, We booked a table online a few hours before and even received a 10% discount for doing so. The food choices were great, booth meats and vegetarian options. Their homemade chips were amazing! Cocktails were also a delight, with a good range of draft beers.
A. G.
First time being here and it was absolutely lovely. The interior of the building was beautiful. They have lots of seating choices up and downstairs. The prices are reasonable and the staff are really nice. They accept card payments which is handy. Good drink selection. All round great experience, will definitely return.
S. M.
Food average, service very good
P. M.
Very nice Bar. Very quiet during the week but I believe that during the weekend attract lots of student and young people. Location is very nice and so is the taff, the selection of spirits and beer is good. Extra good point the presence of board games and a ping pong!
S. W.
Nice for lunch, but full on trendy student types so not really my hang out place.
J. S.
If you're in the westend stop here it's class.
C. S.
Had Sunday roast....roast potatoes, roast beef and all the trimmings....delicious!!!!!!!
M. M.
Awesome atmosphere, lots of stalls which we bought items from for a fair price. Very happy, will come again. They were also very friendly to Chessie (my golden retriever).
B. G.
This is a really popular food and drinks spot in the West End for a reason. It's big enough that even on really busy nights it doesn't feel crowded, and the drinks are good quality at their price point. £3 gin or vodka mojitos! During the day it serves a full lunch menu, usually based on classic home-cooking, and is very vegan and vegetarian friendly. The decor makes you feel a lot cooler than you are, and on Sundays it's host to stalls for vintage and homemade goods. A staple of the west end!
I. T.
I've always loved Hillhead. The place is so pretty you just can't help it and fall in love with it as soon as you step in. Staff is very friendly, I asked if I could have one of the coasters they have hang behind the counter and she gave it to me without even thinking about it twice. Atmosphere is great, food is very nice (I'd recommend the cinnamon roll without a doubt) and I love the ping pong table, it's a great addition to the place. Absolutely go there even for just a beer! You won't regret it.
R. L.
We had an amazing experience here. I found it by accident and I know I'll be here every time I come back to Glasgow. The staff were kind and friendly, the food was amazing (especially for the prices) and the custard with the swiss roll was 10/10! A great hole in the wall with lovely staff, food and atmosphere. Will definitely be returning :)
Y. P.
This is a nice hangout joint. The building is wonderful, the atmosphere is good. The only thing is that the service isn't great. The staff are nice enough, but the service can be inattentive. Also, if you have an inversion to all things 'hipster' you might not like this place, lol. Having said that, I'd still probably visit here on a night out as part of the Byres Rd trail :)
H. E. J. R.
Very large bar/restaurant with interesting furniture. I didn't eat here but they do lots of drinks including cocktails, there are a few deals on drinks too. You can play ping-pong/video games. Cosy atmosphere.
F. 3.
Okay, so I know I usually leave reviews that take the piss, but this place is hands down amazing. There's ping pong tables, a PS2, and great music. Also, the Bookclub Burgers taste grEAT.
Probably the last time I say something serious on here, but yeah.
J. L.
Friendly staff, great ambience and very reasonable prices. Food, on the whole, is tasty, if a little on the safe side. Sticky Toffee Pudding, however, is to die for. Would definitely recommend as a good hangout, reasonably priced with decent food and drink.

After spending four hours eating and drinking in the bar with plans to stay longer, only to be told our tables were needed with 45 minutes notice - the bar was very busy and we had no other option but to leave - staff didn't really seem bothered, but could have put 'Reserved @' signs out earlier to give a bit of notice. Drinks and food selection both decent, if a bit pricey and atmosphere chill, but a bit annoying to have to change evening plans last minute with very little notice...
S. T.
Bit of a hipster bar but I would give this place 4 stars for casual midweek drinks, or somewhere to go on a date during the week. Have had food there before as well and it was quite nice. During Friday/Saturday night however the service can be slow since the bar do cocktails (some of which seem to take forever!). You probably won't recognise any of the music the DJ plays either. On the plus side, it does have a ping pong table though!
D. L.
Very (too) quirky with an interesting cocktail menu (though most are so sugary). Massive place so great for a crowd. Pretty good food but music is so loud that it's impossible to talk over dinner.
S. M.
Nice place to visit and they allow dogs which is good as I work from home a lot and the Bookclub is very close by. I only wish they would provide decent teapots. I've scolded myself numerous times with the ornamental pots they use and some don't even conduct heat very well!
N. L.
A very instgrammable place for food. I had a grilled cheese with chips. I felt they could have used cheeses with a bit more taste but I loved the chips. I went in the hope to play the video games (but they had recently been stolen so there were none) and to use the ping pong table (being used by rowdy children for the duration of the visit). Still, a great place to go to see the decor. I couldn't see the gramophone cocktails on the menu. I found it a little expensive for the food. I took the tube because I didn't have much time (£4 all day). It's in a really good location if you want to visit Glasgow University or Kelvingrove Museum though.
B.
Really beautiful building, the atmosphere was really friendly as were the staff. So glad we went in on our last day in Glasgow, would love to come back in the evening next time we're up, looks like it would be really fun on a busy night
S. L.
Best food I've had and the price makes it even better. Atmosphere is great and the strawberry mojito is fantastic.
If you're a meat eater like me, don't shy away from some of the veggy or vegan options, they are actually very nice and interesting to try something new!
P. L.
Tucked away off Byres Road, this is a refreshingly nice place to visit, with a relaxing atmosphere, quiet ambient music and nicely appointed seating with both booths and lounge style seating. Food and drink options are really good, and the quality is excellent and well priced.
What makes it even better, it is one of the few coffee shops in the area that is dog friendly!
T. G.
The food is good but its takes half hour to come
D. M.
Great place for students. I love the ping pong table. There is prompt service at the bar, and the staff are friendly. Gets very crowded on weekends, and when student clubs host events.
A. M.
Nice food, nice atmosphere.
林.
Nice bar. Has table tennis. The building is quite old style. Love the ceiling. Food is also good. Service is a bit slow.
S. W.
I've been here numerous times when I used to live in the West End. Great atmosphere, reasonably priced drinks, and there's usually a drinks deal on. I would recommend a Strawberry mojito. Oh and the gramophone punch is quirky and cool, great for a group of friends. I've also been for lunch a couple of times and the food is decent and good prices. The entertainment upstairs is always a laugh, table tennis, old school video and board games. Interior is quirky cool, and has nice relaxed atmosphere. It also plays venue to some vintage clothing events, so it really has something for everyone.
L. B.
Had high hopes for the food... Had the Dog with extra trimmings, salsa and onions... Ultimately it was a thorough disappointment. Dry, hard sausage, slim portion of both dog and side salad - a general, unloved, 'thrown out quick' feeling to the food. I also tried the beetroot risotto which was slightly better... Alas, only slightly. So,in short - no, i totally don't recommend this if you're a) hungry b) in need of tasty food c) human.
H. H.
This is a fun place. Quite large with a big bar, booths for dinners and an upstairs area. There's a DJ some nights and the table tennis cage provides good entertainment. Very trendily decorated and mismatch plates and glasses for the diners. The food is pretty tasty to. Can't remember the prices but it came within my work budget so it can't be expensive.
M.
Probably the best burger I've had in the city, although the place is a tad dark it's a great place to meet up with friends & family for a nice lunch and a great atmosphere.
The staff are friendly and have been happy to help on the numerous times I've visited and I would fully recommend the burger you can get from there as it's all homemade and jam packed full of veg so you won't go hungry.
For the best seating I recommend around the centre on the bottom floor as this has the best lighting and is closest to the bar area.
N.
Super friendly staff, great interior. Really cool place to go for a drink and food.
T. D.
Love it here. Food is usually of a high standard and staff are generally excellent. Quirky decor and alternative music add to the dining experience. Been loads of times and will no doubt be back again.
D. M.
Amazing interior in a trendy area of town. Excellent range of food and drinks to cater for every taste. Friendly staff and affordable lunches and dinner options ensure you'll leave with a full belly and a smile on your face.
K.
Popular bar restaurant off Byres Rd., spacious with plenty of seating up and downstairs. Bar with barstool area. Plenty of beers and meals include brunch options. Toilets down stairs so disabled access may be problematic.
K. K.
Absolutely perfect. Wonderful atmosphere and friendly staff.
C. M.
We approached Hillhead Bookclub in 2016 with the idea of having our wedding reception there. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and considerate with the whole process, and really nailed it on the day. All of our guests were impressed with the positive, friendly vibes they got from the staff who went above and beyond to ensure we had a fantastic meal and the best party ever. This is not a wedding venue, but if you are looking for good food, a place to have a jumping party or a memorable setting, I highly recommend it.
B. B.
Food was okay, nothing special. Was worth £6.5. Waitress was a little bit rude though, I had to directly wave at her to finally come over on the third try to get the bill. After that she didn't come back to us to actually pay...lol
O. H.
Good vegetarian and vegan selection. Portions were a bit meagre and quality lacking for the food's price. Trendy, friendly atmosphere and staff, however, made our dinner here an enjoyable experience, nonetheless.
R. s.
Had brunch here on saturday morning and took along our pet parrot who was particularly keen on the full scottish breakfast as he chirped along to the background music. Decent food, polite and pleasant staff.
M. G.
Best bloody Mary I've had in Glasgow
r. r.
Great beer selection, reasonably prices cocktails. Friendly bar staff, and very popular with the college crowd. Definitely a bar to consider if you're looking for a nice place to have a drink and a chat with friends.
P. H. G.
Fantastic location, absolutely best place for a drink, nice ambience and lovely staff in Glasgow!
N.
Quite an interesting place to visit, with the decor revolving around the idea of school/library. The specials are projected on the wall by an old school overhead projector. They have table tennis and board games as well. Food is good honest pub grub. Staff are as friendly and helpful as you can find. Highly recommended.
A. M.
Usually love this place, great food, great service and music however had a really disappointing fish and chips last week, really small portion and fish didn't taste nice and Phil Collins was playing!!! I'll still go back because lunch times are always good but evening meal was big let down
D. R.
Food was nice, but service could be faster
J. M.
Very good... Attentive friendly staff.. Great food and good value for money in a nice converted cinema...
K. C.
Couldn't hear ourselves think students on pub crawls food ok drinks not what we expected
J. B.
Trendy bar with good tunes, great drinks and varied food menu.
S. O.
Super food and friendly and efficient staff. I enjoyed the atmosphere too and although the place was getting busy and turning g into more of a club (10pm), we had a great time!
L. K.
Ordered a Manhattan. It wasn't a Manhattan. Saturday night but service was mega slow and unorganised. Need more bar staff to help.
G. Q.
Good menu and range of beers. Friendly staff even with a large table to deal with. Good memory for who ordered what. Sunday evening music calmer than a Saturday
G. D. G.
Cool place but in all honesty my favorite aspect is reading the comic book pages plastered on the bathroom walls. I'm a geek, what can I say?
F. C.
Wide selection of beer and excellent food. However staff is always too busy so you have to queue for a while to get your drink. Also, music is often way too loud.
S. R.
Friendly staff great menu with delicious veggie options. I had macaroni which had an overpowering mustard flavour so had to send back. Partner had the bean burger which was deelish! £2.80 for a soda and dash is a bit dear !
P. A.
This is a very cool place to hang out. The upstairs booths are great if you want to plug in a laptop or phone charger. Staff are friendly and they have ping pong if you don't mind a queue for it.
J. M.
About as quirky as you can get. Multiple levels of entertainment - bars, games rooms, different seating areas. All sort of events commonly on too. Plenty of beers and cocktails to choose from and the foods decent.
L. P.
Nice atmosphere and interesting drinks. Like the room and staff are usually very friendly. Can take a while to get served and food has been a bit of a let down in the past.
L. B.
I always go here with my boyfriend. It's a cosy nice place with two floors. The food is alright, not a big selection to choose from (thus four stars). It's a bit pricey but it's a very nice place do be in.
C. N.
Good drinks, food not amazing for gluten free
G. C.
Excellent bar, decent prices and a good atmosphere. It looks like it attracts mostly students but there is a good mix of people in there too.
The door staff are also very professional and friendly.
S. H.
Fantastic staff, varied menu and a great atmosphere.
C. J.
The service is in a league above superb, the food/chef should be awarded a michelin star and the decor and atmosphere would suit all occasions. The staff are to be congratulated A++++++
L. W.
Great cocktails - when we got them. The wait at the bar was sooo long and staff consistently overlooked me (I'm not just bitter about the wait - they really did mess up the system and serve about 7 people ahead of me despite my polite attempts to be noticed: argh!)
M. B.
Wasn't there long, space too small for our needs but it's really sweet. Food, whilst passing looked yummy tho. Helpful staff
N. H.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff
C. Q.
Was OK, atmosphere seemed student oriented. Order my steak medium well and it came back to me still mooing. Other than that I couldn't fault the staff
A. K.
Cool place to visit in the West End. Environment is nice but the music can be a bit loud depending on your taste. Lots of hipster paraphernalia (gramophones, etc.) Decent food and friendly service.
C. S.
It didn't seem up to its usual standards today. The food was still tasty, but service was very slow. Maybe there were staff holidays or something, but we were almost at the point of leaving and eating elsewhere.
e. w.
Great vegan food! Couldn't have been kinder. Quickly checked with kitchen and chief made a wonderful moussaka for me. Delicious!
A. H.
Nice setting. For wine lovers not so great as they only serve in a small water tumbler. No wine glasses available.
G. H.
Really great food and staff
N. C.
Good atmosphere and a lovely setting. Great on a nice day. Cocktail list is decent. Bit pricy but it's in the west end so...
D. S.
Love this place, the atmosphere inside, food and drinks, as well as staff all get a 5 star from me.... bonus points for the student deals 🤩
A. M.
Excellent brunch in fun atmosphere. Staff very friendly and very clued up on all their covid procedures.
T. D.
Love it here. Food is usually of a high standard and staff are generally excellent. Quirky decor and alternative music add to the dining experience. Been loads of times and will no doubt be back again.
C. M.
Great Sunday to Wednesday for cheap drinks and cocktails. Friendly staff and decent food. Also retro games consoles and ping pong. Love it.
B. M.
We loved the food here the other night and had amazing service. Great veg and vegan options!
P. O.
Food is great with a good varying selection. Have never been disappointed. Serve epic hot cider in winter.
Good place for younger people I'd say.
T. W.
Always a fun drink at Hillhead Book Club. Would love a second ping pong table though!
M. S.
Helpful and friendly waitresses, ordered the veggie haggis based on the recommendation, but they’d run out so I ended up with the vegan doner kebab, which was delicious
D. M.
Great atmosphere, wonderful menu. Meal was perfectly cooked and delicious. Staff was great and helpful.
J. B.
Good food, good vibe, good service. They didn't have any Drambuie, though? In Glasgow? Calm down!
G. C.
Excellent bar, decent prices and a good atmosphere. It looks like it attracts mostly students but there is a good mix of people in there too. …
C. H.
Great food and friendly staff in a chilled pub/restaurant. Vegan and veggie meals and brilliant freshly cooked food .The pies here are amazing. Desserts too
P. O.
Food is great with a good varying selection. Have never been disappointed. Serve epic hot cider in winter.
Good place for younger people I'd say.
C.
Slapper bang in the middle of gr8 western road, tons of pingpong to be pinged plus mad wee arcade machine outfitted with all the classics tho missing defender :'( average price for drinks tho some banging student deals! Mad wee place overall, much history to be absorbed :)
R. L.
This place is magic -- you can play pingpong and drink cocktails out of a gramophone! By day it turns into a vintage market. Such a great vibe and fun hang out.
D. M.
Great atmosphere, wonderful menu. Meal was perfectly cooked and delicious. Staff was great and helpful.
D. B.
Nice bar with good decor. Good drinks selection. Service was variable, with a very long wait at the bar at one point.
B. M.
We loved the food here the other night and had amazing service. Great veg and vegan options!
D. G.

L. T.
This place is amazing. Great food, service and atmosphere. Plenty of games around for people to play ping pong etc. Definitely worth a visit
A. W.
The best thing about this place is the vegetarian menu. I'm not a strict veggie but always find myself ordering from this because it's so varied and good.
M. Š.
Fantastic bar! Definitely one of the best in West End!
L. S.
Great food, good selection of alcohol, friendly staff and outdoor seating. Also they are fine with booking tables or sections.
P. T.

C. M.
Great Sunday to Wednesday for cheap drinks and cocktails. Friendly staff and decent food. Also retro games consoles and ping pong. Love it.
A. M.
Hipster student bar, poor service with food. I was refused a food order only to see a table of 4 get served 15 mins later. Good vibe though.
C. T.
Books, games, drinks, and music. All of your favorites all in one place! Themed like a primary school library. Playing early 2000 throwback songs
G. H.
Nice place, was quite busy when I was there. Only has drinks but seemed reasonably priced for Glasgow. Would definitely go back.
H. M.
Wonderful atmosphere, great food and friendly staff. Got a complimentary water hug with mint and strawberry in it. WOW!
M. B.
Great place for a weekend brunch, lunch or even just drinks. They have a ping pong table upstairs, lots of seating and large bar area.
P. B.
Our Christmas do the venue is great, the bar ran out of several spirits over the course of the afternoon and the food was a little disappointing compared to previous years.
w. l.
Good food with a super veggie selection that's well thought out as opposed to an afterthought. Child friendly and a top choice for brunch.
E. D.
If you are coming to Glasgow's West End, HillHead Bookclub is a place you need to visit! Their signature gramophones are super fun and delicious and you can get a great mojito for cheap! They've been known to host sales for vintage clothing and other goodies.
J. J.
Great place staff friendly enough apart from when a member of staff spilt my drink on me and everywher apologised and went to get a towel and another drink another staff who didn't see haughtily started clearing the mess and blamed me! Fortunately it didnt spoil my night.
S. M.
Great meal and great service, will be back. Thanks 🤤

K. G.
We was surprised with the quality of the food.
Was tasty and portion size was big. I highly recommend it
