Reviews of Laurieston Bar
L. C.
It's just a pub... the best pub in Glasgow obviously.
Cracking and friendly atmosphere with a mix of beers and ales alongside the usual pub offerings. Friendly staff and always feel welcome here.
The best stop on the subcrawl and a great wee place to stop in for a chill pint.
J. C.
Absolute jewel of a pub which serves excellent cask ale. They had three Fyne ales on hand pull and also a load of keg beers. The interior is like a time capsule and the staff and locals are very friendly. Will definitely be a regular spot for me
A. M.
What an absolutely outstanding bar!!!! Great atmosphere, the staff were amazing and had great banter!!!!! Even going over and above to get us red bull. That was 1st class service. Could had stayed there all day but we were on a sub crawl. We will definitely be back though.
M. K.
Excellent old school Glasgow pub with character. It's also on the sub crawl route so don't be surprised if a few people pile in for a drink then leave. Would Def recommend. Best pint of Guinness around.
A. F.
Such a great pub to while away an afternoon. Relaxed and full of atmosphere. Barman knowledgeable and super friendly. If you have a pie - definitely get the peas and gravy.
M.
An absolute gem of a Glasgow city centre pub. Family run since dot. Decor is beautifully original. Great real ales from Fyne brewery plus a host of other great drinks. If you're ever in Glasgow, pop in. You'll be glad you did.🙂🍺👍

A traditional, working class Glasgow pub. Judging by the prominence given to Guinness, I'd guess a Celtic scarf would go down better than a Rangers one, but horse-racing was showing on the TV and is probably of more interest here than football. It's a community place and there a photos of the locals on the walls. Quiet and homely, it was an effort to drag myself away. I could have got very comfortable. The cistern in the men's toilets is worth a look for those of us nostalgic for the days when smoking was compulsory. I haven't seen such a lovely patina for many years now. Not your typical drinking establishment more's the pity, and likely not to everybody's taste. But for we refugees from a happier age, it's balm to the soul.
D. B.
Clearly one of the best pubs in the UK, if not the world. A stunning design time capsule, but also a genuine friendly local boozer. (The beer was really well served also).
K. S.
A fantastic proper Glasgow pub. If you are in the city centre it is worth the short walk over the Clyde to visit. I had Fyne Ales Jarl and Highlander, both in top condition. Friendly welcoming staff and locals. Enjoyed my visit here and will definitely be back, a great traditional pub.
A. T.
I would like to thank Joseph and the business for your kind help and support with the Be Aware campaign. Joseph kindly sponsored the safety books to go into his local school. Thanks so much for making a difference.
S.

I Had A Great Time With The Cast Of A Night To Remember For A Night To Remember Reunite ON The 8th Of June The Night After My 24th Birthday

Enjoyed a pint with my son here, one of few traditional pubs left in the city, there was a good atmosphere to the bar with various art works on the walls.
The bar serves a good mix of age groups, I hope they don't change a thing about it, won't be my last visit.
R. P.
If you're from Dublin, this is Grogans. If you're from Waterford, this is Downes. If you're from Limerick this is Pharmacia. If you're Irish, this is good, you'll like it.
J. R.
I read a couple of reviews of this place ahead of coming to the area for a gig at the O2 Academy just 5 minutes up the road, and am glad I visited.
Very relaxed atmosphere, good pint and free jukebox, but as noted by others the friendliness of the two gents who run the place was brilliant. Old school.
A. T. F.
Very nice wee pub if you want nice quiet drink staff are really nice too
J. G.
Absolutely amazing pub! Popped in here last two years on the sub Crawl! They keep photos off all the sub crawls that pass through! Good to try find the group photo from the year before.
A. M.
Favourite wee boozer in Glasgow. An old fashioned no-nonsense classic pub. Highly recommended to any tourists as it's a friendly place with good staff.
P. H.
A one off thanks to 3 generations of staff behind the bar. One of the best bars in Glasgow. A hidden gem
K. C.
What a pub! James and Mark have created a nook for the human heart around which all worldly affairs turn. My own family feels like cold, distant strangers to the kinship offered in their pub. The smiles witnessed tonight will render every face hence bland and uninspiring. Don’t go to this pub unless your heart is receptive to endless pints of pure joy.
L. G.
We asked the Laurieston if we could come in and have some photos taken during our wedding across the road, at The Savings Bank. They made sure we had a space available and were so accommodating and welcoming. Thanks so much to Joseph for your kindness and generosity. This bar is an absolute Glasgow gem.
R. T.
Auld style bar but enjoyable enough and clean
J. G.
Great beer ice cold and friendly staff
S. K.
Great pub, Great Staff and a Great Pint of Guinness, whats not to like? :)
J. F.
Friendly welcoming old school pub, cracking pint of heavy.
S. R.
If you want to know what the Laurieston is like consider that during the Covid lockdown the staff were concerned that some of their elderly regulars were sitting in the house alone and so were calling them on the phone to check if they were doing alright and asking if they needed anything.
This place is old school Glasgow. It’s all heart and character. When you walk through the door you’re made to feel like an old friend. If there was a pub like this in every neighbourhood the world would be a better place and the beer is terrific too! Genuinely, five stars is not enough.
E. F.
Authentic old Glasgow bar with an exceptional pint of Guinness.
J. P.
Surely the most dog-friendly, and generally friendly local boozer around Glasgow. Added bonus of a free jukebox in the lounge and three excellent real ales, usually from local brewery Fyne Ales.
A. M.
Can't believe it took me so many years before I finally visited this pub. Great service. Reasonable prices. Quirky. Our book club met here and it was the perfect venue. Don't be put off by location.
D. G.
Best pub in Glasgow
M. Y.
Always friendly and good Fyne ales.
T. M.
Cracking pub, friendly staff, decent price wise.
J. M. M.
Great to be back in Glasgow's best pub. Finally reopened after the Covid-19 restrictions. Well managed with a great appreciation of distancing requirements. Can't wait till we're back to normal.
P.S. The Beer's good to.
Pay it a visit, you won't be disappointed.
A. G.
Gobsmacking local that has to be seen to be believed! I found a seat in 'obitury corner' (I hope it isn't an omen) listening to the banter and enjoying a Fyne Avalanche.
The 'No ladies supplied in this bar' was a shock until I read the 'Please bring your own' sign underneath.
T. B.
Without doubt my favourite pub, it's like stepping back in time, wonderful wonderful staff, just heaven.
p.
Fantastic bar, like a throwback to the 60's, such a chilled out friendly atmosphere, it's a must visit!!!
D. C.
Lovely pub with unspoilt 1960's interior. Well kept real ale and great atmosphere.
E. S.
Still one of the best pubs in Glasgow. Good beer and great people both sides of the bar.
P. H.
Southside history and a pint. What more could you ask. The elderly gent who owns this pub couldn't be more welcoming. He lined us up a few local brewed cask ales to taste before we'd even taken our seats. Well worth a visit.
B. H.
Fantastic remnant from the 1960s had some ales on tap as well as usual stuff
I. H.
Really friendly bar, great service, staff so good, no hassle, staff always have time to talk to you. In covid time so many bars don't care, the Laurieston have taken time to manage the situation and I feel safe in there.
N. L.

Very nice family run pub with original 1960s decor. Not to welcoming from the outside but a must visit for pub lovers
L. R.
Old school pub. Really friendly staff and warm atmosphere. Not the widest selection of beers but it'll absolutely so the job. Good stop if you're gigging at the O2.
T.
Old man's bar that hasn't been touched since the 1970s but with a surprisingly young crowd. Super cheap drinks with proper bar staff.
C. P.
Great pub, friendly staff. Would visit again.
E. D.
Amazing pub, great atmosphere, good prices
C. G.
Been here a few times with my colleague from Glasgow when up from London. I love the place and have always been made very welcome by everyone. Top pub, Top people.
M. M.
Just the best pub in Glasgow well run by an amazing family...
C. K.
Lovely pub run by friendly father and son. Pub of the year, but you wouldn't know it from the outside.
J. S.
From the outside this place looks like you would not want to go anywhere near it. However inside it is bustling with about every demographic possible. Clearly makes has made an effort to keep the decor the same for the past 30-40 years...not a bad thing. This place has alot character. Only downside is that they are cash only. Nearest machine is just across the street however.
B. C.
My favourite pub in Glasgow. Really friendly atmosphere and great real ales too.
D. M.
Great characters and inclusive atmosphere. Incredibly friendly service that make your feel like a regular. Cash only, but there's a cash machine across the road so nae worries!
D. C.
Proper old school pub with a decent selection and friendly / helpful staff
N. S.
One of those pubs that needs to be kept going. A slice of the past right now. A brilliant place to stop in for a pint or five. Great staff, never any grief. Proper old school friendly bar. Pure Glasgow.
K. V.
Fantastic old fashioned Glasgow pub. The bar folk give you a warm welcome and the beer is great.
D. C.
Traditional bar that probably had its last makeover sometime in the 1970s, which will appeal to people of a certain age! Nice retro feel and non-threatening. Well worth a visit.
P. B.
Brilliant pub. Tremendously welcoming you owners. In an area of Glasgow rarely visited by tourists a truly great experience. Great beers and tasty bar food.
R.

G. M.
Excellent pub, very busy leading up to Christmas, a bit of the beaten track, but well worth the effort 😊
H. R.
Good selection of ales in this friendly pub. Don't be put off by the exterior the inside is welcoming and warm. Certainly a lot of people find it that way as it filled up really quickly on the Friday afternoon/evening that we were all there. Pies and sausage rolls available to eat.

An essential stop on the Sub Crawl and certainly a Glasgow pub steeped in history. Has managed to stand the test of time and the clientele is certainly varied. Does hot pies and food for the bar as well. Worth a visit for a pint if you're in the area.
D. T.
Like going into a 1960's timewarp, best pub in Glasgow!
B. M.
Traditional old style family run pub. Has loyal customer base but is also enjoyed by huge numbers of revellers of all ages. A friendly place where you can engage in conversation with anyone. As publican John says "It's just a pub". Aye, but what a great pub says I!
P. W.
A gem of a bar with real character. Like being in a time warp back to the 60s, though fortunately the beer isn't!
R. C.

A. S.
Proper Glaswegian pub,bar man was very hospitable, glad these type of pubs still exist
C. L.
Must visit pub in Glasgow - wonderful staff, great jukebox and superb atmosphere.
A. B.
As other reviewers have pointed out, it may not look like much from the outside, the inside decor probably hasn't been touched since the '70s, and (in keeping with the '70s theme) it is cash only. Still, it has friendly staff, good beer at reasonable prices, and a relaxed atmosphere.
J. M.
A great Glasgow pub. One of the few left, run by a lovely family. And great Guinness. 😁
j. d.
Is what it is, staff great very welcoming and helpful, toilets a bit stinky but as I said it is what it is.
R. W.
This place is the weirdest pub on the infamous Glasgow sub crawl. The inside outside smoking area is amazing. It has a radio.

T.
Wonderful old bar. Well worth a visit.
G. C.
Fairly unimposing from the outside but warm and welcoming on the inside with friendly staff and an outstanding pint of McEwan's 80'. A rare exception to the standard city centre "designer" pubs.
L. B.
WHO KNEW... a Gem, a Southside Gem. An eclectic mix of young, old, hipster and walking stick... Combining in weird yet addictive harmony. An EXCELLENT smoking area. And, as you'd expect from a gentrified old man's pub, a great pint to be had.
N. M.
Great pub, friendly staff
C. F.
Always make a point of visiting any time Im on the west coast.....best boozer in Glasgow.
L. G.
Traditional pub at its best, I love it

This is the best pub in Scotland without a doubt.
J. M.
A place filled with character, and most of it is recorded on the walls, with photos, doodles on beer mats and some crazy artwork. Good place for a quick pint.
D. G.
A real pub that understands how to serve alcohol, with decor going back to the sixties which adds to the character!! Toilets stink a bit, hence the loss of a star!
A. S.
Fantastic pub with great beer in particular the fyne ales allways very well keeped
D. W.

A. A.
Lovely atmosphere and cheerful staff!
S. D.
Great bar. Don't miss it if you're in Glasgow
C. G.
A very good traditional pub. The best in the area by far, with allsorts of people coming from outside the local area for a pint. It's the kind of bar that on rare occasions is closed for a day or so for filming the odd drama here and there, so production companies seeking it out gives you an idea that it has the feeling of a bygone era.
If you do the 'Subcrawl' drinking challenge, this is the place to go at the Bridge Street Underground stop. Also the last port of call on the way to gigs at the O2 Academy, coming from the city centre.
M. R.
Awesome local that welcomes newcomers (and subcrawlers) as much as the old locals. Decent selection of Scottish ales too.
G. M.
This has been the local for our band for years. We always get great chat from the staff!
L.
Always friendly. Great beer selection!
J. F.
Still my favourite pub in glasgow
W. W.
Good pub next to the subway
J. M.
Cozy and friendly with a great atmosphere and friendly staff.
D. Q.
Such a great boozer! No craft beer but there's a small selection of well kept cask ale. The bar staff were great: I spilt half my pint all over the floor and the barmaid not only came and cleaned it up, she gave me a fresh pint at no extra charge :) For that alone they get 5 stars but it's also genuinely the best trad pub I've been to in ages!
N. F.
Well preserved example of a working class, family run Glasgow pub. Honest, friendly and cheap with an emphasis on pleasing the customer.
J. M.
Good pub before concert in the o2
S. G.
Nicest staff in the world
D. A.
First visit to The Laurieston and won't be the last - absolutely lovely place to have a drink and relax in - staff are wonderful to
R.
Superb pub that is run by lovely people. Good range of beer in old school surroundings. Popular with locals and sub crawlers. Worth a pop over the bridge for pint. Great prices and has a rotation of ales. You can even get a pie and beans. A real Glasgow delight and a reminder of what a boozer used to be like before the influx of wines bars, cocktail bars, lounge bars and every other type of bar that has been brought to our high streets. Bonus is the free juke box. Why you still reading this and not heading straight here for a pint.

A proper Glasgow pub. The customers are a mix of regulars from the local area, people on the way to see bands at the academy and people on the subcrawl. What an atmosphere.

Busy as Heaven 17 playing at nearby venue. Quickly served by James, with Anne and Kian on duty too. Jarl pouring ( and tasting ) well.

You trek through cosmic debris just over the river from Central station and you reach this tiled bunker with a choice of Bar or Lounge entrances. Been a while since I've seen that. But step inside and you understand why. It's time warp back to the 60s, with a formica topped oval bar, wooden panelling and historic decor. Decent drinks range, friendly staff and punters. The hot pies and sausage rolls on the counter looked great. Compare and contrast to hipster joints just on the other side of the Clyde.
R. R.
Lots of stuff on the walls to look at, friendly staff and the double level tables are a boon.

Was in Glasgow for Scotland v England game. Centre of town was an absolute nightmare. Overcrowded and sweaty. My mate and me decided to take our chances on finding a boozer closer to Hampden. Stumbled upon this wee place not too far from the centre. Nothing too flashy, proper old man's boozer. I loved it. Good beer, good prices, good atmosphere. To top it off we got a seat hurrah!
A. M.
I liked it but it's nothing fancy just friendly.
s. l.
The Clancey brothers and their staff are to most genial hosts to be found. Real old time Glasgow publicans and run the type of pub the punters respect. Real easy going atmousphere.

A gem of a place in the Laurieston area of the Gorbals, not many pubs survived the architectural genocide inflicted by GCC in the 60/70's....but this did....So, hats off to the Clancy's keeping a cracker of a boozer harking back to the above era and well worth a visit. Get yersel along there some night and soak in times gone by. Class in a glass.

Went into the Laurieston when on the way to the academy in 2011 watching Interpol. Looked intimidating from the outside but staff and locals were very friendly to even someone from Manchester. Since got married but we came up last weekend for the Glasgow festival for Interpol. Mrs went shopping I came over the bridge for a quick pint and to reminisce.
