Reviews of The Banc

Staying near by on a short break and came across this place driving past, decided to pop in and see if we can get some food me and my wife had excellent rib eye steak and a very good kids meal for our toddler , really friendly atmosphere and great food. Pleased we stopped in .

Simply. This is the best eatery in Knighton. The Bank conversion is unique itself with the opportunity to sit and drink in the safe. Great service, not over-bearing and really tasty food. Good menu selection. As there aren’t many in Knighton this slightly unique refined place stands out hence the 5 stars.

We had an extremely good lunch here for our Christmas end of year meet. The choice and quality of food was superb and matched by attentive but not intrusive service. We enjoyed a bit of exclusivity in The Vault as well which was lovely. The mulled wine was a delicious treat too! Thanks Team Banc, we shall be back.

Super friendly and helpful staff. Great food, that you could tell had been freshly made. Really nice atmosphere for lunch, with a really interesting building. Couldn't recommend enough

Came across the banc when house hunting in Knighton , staff very friendly and attentive. We felt very welcome and comfortable. The food was superb . Can’t fault a thing .
This will definitely be a local for us !

Awesome food, friendly staff, and great recommendation of the local smooth golden ale! Highly recommended.
It was a good find being new to the place, we were thinking twice when no one on the street recommended them. We were tiered of walking around especially after gettin hungry and to feed four mouths, this was the easy option. I must say, it was worth every penny! Wished I had left more tip!
Well done chef, well done the waiting staff lady, and they guy serving drinks. Keep it up. Wish to visit you again sometime in the future.

My second meal here. I took my Niece and her fiancee and we enjoyed it very much. Great atmosphere in the bar area and a nice quiet room for the meal. Food was excellent and the service spot on. Looking forward to my next visit soon!

After thinking about not putting a review on here I have decided that i will and I'll explain why I've given 3 stars for my families lunchtime visit today. We felt very welcome on arrival and sat and ordered food. Meals arrived and they were all looked to be of a pretty good standard or so we thought. My sons burger meal looked alright but being polite he managed most of his meal before announcing that half of his burger was burnt. Upon inspection of what he had left was very charred and well over done. We did point this out to the lady that collected the plates but at no point did she apologise, what she did say was that we could give it to the dog!(it wasn't even fit for the dog to eat). We did not want to make a fuss so just ordered coffee and carried on.
Upon paying for the meal I did mention the overcooked burger to the gentleman who did apologise which was good of him. Hopefully it was a little hiccup in the kitchen as I mentioned the rest of the food and coffee that we had at the table was good.
So please don't be put off going there, I would still visit it again if I am ever in the area again.

Amazing Steak! Lovely staff and super tasty sweet potatoe fries. The burger was a combo of vegetarian and meat!

Loved this place the food is of excellent quality all home made we was made really welcome and the service and politeness was outstanding so much so we returned the following night to try something else off the menu if you are in the area you have to try this place you will not go home hungry or disappointed

Staying local and went here for some food. Had sos & mash and fish n chips. Food and service excellent. Proper old school pub with good atmosphere. 👍🏻 …

Good size portions of decent food. Dog friendly! Great service as well!

Our party of 6 visited The Banc while staying just outside of Knighton for a hen party weekend. We were seated in the old vault which was a lovely and unique experience in itself, and also allowed us some privacy.
The service we received was excellent, the staff were professional and took extra special care with our vast range of weird and wonderful dietary requests.
The food was truly exceptional, cooked to perfection and greatly complimented by the range of wines and gins. It was also very reasonably priced for the high standards.
Despite this establishment being 3 hours from my home, I will absolutely visit again and would highly recommend to people visiting the area who are looking for some great food in an even better atmosphere.
I can’t thank the staff enough for making it so memorable and I’ll hopefully see you all again soon.

We visited Knighton this weekend and ate here. There was confusion with our booking but a member of staff named Craig sorted it out for us and was great.
Guinness and cider was perfect. I ordered ribeye, cooked rare, when it arrived it was fr from rare, but it was the best steak I’ve tasted so far…and we dine out once or twice a week! Highly recommended to all staying in Knighton
A. V.
It was nice and quiet when we called which was great because we didn't have a lot of time. Service was quick and staff friendly. Food was good but not the largest portions. We enjoyed our meals
S. B.
Excellent food (recommend the lamb burger) and nice atmosphere. The puddings were great as well.

Six of us recently stayed just outside Knighton and were looking for somewhere to meet up for lunch, before we arrived at our accommodation.
Having read The Banc reviews we booked in advance and could not have been more pleased. The owner, Craig, has created a local pub atmosphere with an excellent ambience. There was a good choice of food on the menu and it was well presented and delicious.
We all thought it was a great experience and so booked Sunday lunch and again we were impressed. Craig, his chef and all the members of his team are doing a great job. Best Sticky Toffee Pudding ever.
We wish it was our local

Great that you are open again!
We had an excellent lunch last week

Best steak I've ever had. Dog friendly, lovely service. Thinking of going back tomorrow!
Edit: I did go back the next day! Highly recommend the hazelnut ice-cream too!

2nd time eating here and the food is always so so good. Service is excellent really friendly and super efficient. Despite being stuffed we decided to share their sticky toffee pudding with homemade hazelnut ice cream for dessert and it was unbelievable! Great find...we will be back.

Thank you Craig and all the staff for beautiful food, as always at The Banc. Wonderful service too. Excellent menu to choose from. The bread and butter pudding was fantastic!! ;-)

Great service, got a table for 6 of us before 5pm booking and enjoyed a few refreshing pints of Ale. Everyone safe distancing and wearing masks till they sat. All staff following rules.
Felt comfortable in there. Would recommend it.
F. T.
Even on grill night they provided a very nice vegan burger. Friendly staff!
D. B.
Only stopped for coffee but what a novel idea that it used to be HSBC bank and they have kept the character features such as the safe door. Food looked good on menu too
M. J.
Great food, great drink, great service.
C. M.
Fantastic meal last night and lovely to have great gluten free options. Also to have to option to modify some of the other menu options. Great atmosphere
K. D.

We popped into the Banc today for lunch by chance, without any plans or expectations and enjoyed a delicious lunch with an excellent service. 5 stars from us. Thanks 👍 …

A cool old building and our steaks were perfectly cooked. The service was good, but we did have to wait quite a while for a table, Monday steak night appears to be rather popular! Ordered a side salad for £2.50 but was only about a palm-ful of salad. Overall decent, but why so stingy on the salad!
L. T.
Nine of us have just been here and had a absolutely faultless meal. Honestly some of the best food I've eaten. So reasonably priced, easily worth more. Service was also great, very accommodating and friendly. Couldn't recommend enough.
N. J.
Dinner and a couple of pints tonight. Once again, as always an amazing feed at the Banc. Thanks. 👌 …
P. B.
Great pub and great vantage point to watch the carnival.
R. F.
Friendly, welcoming and had vegetarian options. The beef burger was delicious and all food was locally sourced. An enjoyable place to spend an evening with family and friends.
C. L.
Called in whilst staying overnight in Knighton. Very friendly staff and a superb lamb hotpot. Social distancing observed which is always reassuring. Made for a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Many thanks 😊 …
V. H.
Ate twice whilst visiting area. Highly reccommend especially the Sunday lunch. Great value for money. Good atmosphere, nothing to much trouble. Would definately visit again thank you.

I have been coming to Knighton 2 or 3 times year for over 10 yrs, and am always on the look out for new places to try. Was told about The Banc from a friend who lives in the area. Booked a table for 5 on a Thursday evening. Arrived at the Banc, very well done out with plenty of the original features from the original old midland Bank (Hence the name ) Promptly greated by polite and friendly staff at the bar, shortly after shown to our reserved seats and told would be back shortly to take our drinks order.
Had a look at a modern diverse menu- not to over the top with more than enough choices to suit most pallets.
Waitress asked what drinks we would like, placed the order of numerous drinks again from a good choice and selection of beers/larger's and ciders as well as spirits and several cocktails.
Drinks arrived very shortly after, and meals order taken.
We chose the Banc platter (A mixed choice of cured meats and olives/pickles etc in tapas sauces style serving) as a shared starter and some breaded whitebait to share also.
Rump steaks, a 6oz mixed Burger and Chicken goujons for my Grandson (6) with fires and sweet potato fries.
Huge portion of breaded whitebait (Large whitebait too- not little tasteless fish, but large sized individually breaded fish) and a small dip/sauce of paprika aioli
The Banc platter was divine. But you either love em or hate them - olives and pickles of different types several dips and several slices or
various cured meats
Steak's were cooked exactly as asked, 2 rare and 1 well done.
Absolutely delicious very very good cut of meat seasoned to perfection.
small tomatoes on the vine with plenty of flavor, Thin fries but crispy and extremely tasty, as well as my own sweet potato fries cooked in the same style, again perfectly cooked.
Meal was perfect all round.
After meal was finished one of the owners came over and introduced himself to us (I recognized him from a previous visit to another restaurant in the area) and he recognized me also.
Had a interesting chat and complimented him on his new venture , and told him the food and venue was perfect.
Defiantly call again over my week up in the area and look forward to trying something different on the menu .
Highly recommend to anyone in the area or even not so close- well woth a drive to try out this new restaurant and hospitality of the new owners and stuff, Also live music on some weekends as well as other entertainment available here (I might pop along to one of theses evenings)
S. L.
Craig's a fantastic host, knows his job and far too skinny with all that delicious food being served! Wish this bar a great success and already a huge hit. Excellent.

Pre-lockdown visit to Knighton, booked in advance. Restaurant located in old HSBC Bank (the vault still used as a seating area!) Took advantage of the Monday "Steak Night" offer for two, including bottle of wine. Excellent Sirloin cooked to order (rare) with additional accompanying sauces. Well kept cellar standards of Real Ale. Deserves a five star rating.
N. C.
Absolutely lovely staff and nice food. Very chill vibes. All round a lovely evening.
D. R.

A wonderful evening with friends great service wonderful choice on menu food was amazing
J. J.
Popped in and asked to borrow a pen. Manager picked a Bic biro from a pot behind the bar. Noticing I wanted to write a card, she then selected a superior Ink Joy pen. Tiny detail greatly appreciated.
R. N.
Not a bad pub with a limited menu. Meals were absolutely lovely but not a great choice. Was an enjoyable hour or so for wifey and me🤗 …
