Reviews of The Ben Nevis
N. M.
Excellent choice of whiskies, great pint o’Guinness in an extremely relaxed and friendly atmosphere, lined up w/lovely decor, albeit a bit “vintage”. Highly recommended while in Glasgow!
D. N.
Lovely small bar with a great selection of whisky and a good atmosphere. Seating outside. Dogs welcome.
S. H.
Amazing selection of Malt Whisky's and a great atmosphere
M. J.
This is a little gem of a pub. Open fire, wooden panels, and most important of all, a comprehensive collection of fine whisky at a very reasonable price. I loved my visit here. Great Gin selection too.
S. C.
Fine Glasgow pub. Good beer. Huge selection of malts. Cosy, rustic feel, with wood and stone decor. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Great place.
E. E.
Good atmosphere. People coming and going for a quick drink, mostly stayed for longer. There is a table reserved for regulars, nice touch. Good vibe.
D. S.
Lively when I visited on a Friday night. Great buzz, people's chatter over the quiet music. Great array of whisky too.
R. I.
Amazing, knowledgeable staff and great Whisky
G. M.
Busy place, comfy chairs. Nice selection of Whiskys, but also an array of other drinks for those who have other preferences.
L. M.
Only one real ale was a disappointment but some other bars had no none. For s tourist I was surprised it was so busy but not busy enough that it should have taken the ten minutes to serve me, that it did.bthe male barman needs to concentrate on people waiting rather than his girlfriend
A. B.
We popped in for the first time post Lockdown and were delighted that the live music session was still going strong.
F. B.
Nice place with all sorts of whisky. When I was there musicians dropped in all evening and played together. The bar was full but the female bartender gave you service within seconds. Above expectations.
T. C.
A fantastic bar. I wish I lived in a country that the college aged bartenders are encyclopedias on all things whiskey. Every suggestion was a 10/10. Great vibe and lots of energy. The bottles that you can't get elsewhere were ridiculous.
L. K. L.
Great little place, with (one) pre reserved seat for regulars - i like it! Great and friendly bartender. Our taste for whisky started right here! Thanks!
R. T.
Great bar with relaxed atmosphere, big selection of whisky and real open fires at each end of bar.dogs welcome
W. C.
Nice pub, very friendly staff, bit on the pricey side. Great selection of whisky's.
D. R.
Great wee pub, full of character and atmosphere. Just wish it was easier to get a seat!
J. G.
Fantastic selection of Whisky good wee pub friendly bar staff
W. B.
Great selection, great atmosphere, great pub/bar
E. R.
If you love whisky and can't stay away from your four legs friend that this is the spot. Fantastic service from Alan with a friendly welcome to my buddy that was traveling with me. You can get your mouth on some amazing and long gone whiskies.
Z. D.
Sounds like from the reviews there is a single elderly lady barmaid here which gives rude service, but thankfully we didn't encounter her. The service here was incredibly friendly, helpful and quick. The decor is a lovely and intimate with lots of wood and tastefully exposed brickwork. The drink selection is fantastic, which a good choice of Scottish whisky that the bar staff seemed knowledgable about. The music was a really nice touch, but it's a shame they don't do food of any sort - though there's plenty of choice nearby!
m. c.
The bar staff are wonderful! I came in with my dog, they made a massive fuss of her- dog treats and hugs!
Warm, friendly and great selection of drinks. Definitely recommend this pub!
R. R.
Lovely cosy pub with a fantastic selection of whisky. Friendly bar staff who knows their whisky very well. Recommend to stop for a drink
I. P.
Very warm place with a big collection of whiskey. You should visit it if you are around.
A. B.
Great bar! We did a DIY whisky tour while in Glasgow, and the bartender helped us to choose the right whisky for us. As a whisky novice, I really enjoyed the glendronach (left).
My more whisky experienced fiancé really enjoyed his bunnahabhain (right). Service was awesome, decor is really cool, and it has a lot of local character. Highly recommend!
J.
Lively place any day night of the week with some traditional live celtic tunes
M. S.
Great bar that feels very authentic and Scottish. It's small, but cosy and would make a great evening if the live music is on. Wide whiskey selection aswell as other spirits. Staff really knew their stuff and were happy to recommend drinks. Small outdoor seating area and a TV with the football on was a plus too.
H. T.
Random Live music when i went. Good vibes and plenty of choice of whiskies👍🏽
L. S.
The live folk session and whisky selection are fantastic. It is a bit of an institution for folk musicians in Glasgow with informal jams on Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday nights. The pints are a bit pricey, but seemingly in keeping with the area
A. R.
Show me the way to the next whisky bar.
Oh, don't ask why!
For if we don't find the next whisky bar
I tell you we must die.
P. A.
It's a nice pub, reasonably priced, but it's so busy all the time and the noise in there gets deafening. Not a great place for a conversation but good if you're in a group and you don't mind shouting.
S. R.
Cosy Scottish pub with a good selection of beer and whiskies. They had a little fiddle band on the last time we were in too. A must stop in spot anytime we're out for food in / around finneston.
P.
Great bar, lovely staff, loved the decor.
w. c.
Great staff, great place ... enjoyed the music whilst there, staff helpful and locals friendly 🙂
B. R. D.
Great pub. Awesome whiskey selection. Bartender (from Galway) was very knowledgeable and helpful. Just a nice vibe overall.
S. C.
Great atmosphere and ambience. Absolute go to when in Glasgow.
D. S.
Staff are very friendly and didn't mind me asking to combine half pints of stout and lager together to make horrific drinks.
Lots of bottles of things, nice atmosphere, great social distancing. Feels like drinking in a fishbowl. 5 stars
C. M.
Great live music and amazing range of single malt Scotch and relaxed and welcoming ambiance.
R. C.
Great bar, good music.
F. S.
One of the best pubs I've been to. Huge whisky selection with fantastic knowledgeable staff who can help you decide which is the correct one for your mood. They have a folk band that comes and plays at the perfect volume so not to drown out conversation but produce a welcoming and energetic atmosphere. They have a log fire which creates some authentic warmth and welcoming vibes. Will definitely be returning here on my next visit to Glasgow!
W. S.
Love ben nevis top pub and great staff
b. w.
A rather excellent bar. Brill staff and great beers. A truly astonishing selection of malt whisky to add to the mix.
E. B.
If you like single malt whisky you need to go here! Lovely little whisky bar, and dog friendly. It was very busy though on a Saturday evening so probably wouldn't have taken the dog in at these busier times.
E. P.
Nice cosy pub with good whiskeys
p. m.
Nice bar with a cozy fire to sit beside, great for a driech day in Glasgow.
M. L.
Staff and customers adhered to the safety and social distancing measures in place. It still has the same charm as it had pre-pandemic, but unfortunately the atmosphere takes a hit with such a reduced capacity. Still has an excellent selection of beers and whiskies.
p. r.
You like whisky You like a cosy atmosphere no loud music a proper pub good beers and bring your dog so they don't get lonely this is the pub for you as long as your dog is well behaved and so are you.
A. B.
What an amazing night, fabulous bar, great staff and the traditional but modern musicians were the best we have seen for a long time.
S.
Revisited this bar on 28/07/20. Covid 19 social distancing measures in place now with hand sanitizer and screens between tables and one way system. Also noted only 1 person allowed in the toilet facilities with a light on the door to make people aware that there is someone in at any time.
Great whisky selection but we only had a pint and a lovely pinot grigio. For a house white wine the quality was very good.
The staff were pleasant, owner/manager? I think initially but then a barman took over and he was jovial and chatty, he explained that he used to do some of the live music before the lockdown.
Will certainly return as the lockdown eases. Great atmosphere and decor, pleasant drinks and good bar staff, what's not to like..
m. a.
So cosy. Drinks not too expensive for the area.
S. C.
Would love to give a higher rating. Lovely interior, nice place, extensive whisky collection..... Very rude staff (steer clear of the older woman) . If you don't have a pretentious level of knowledge about whisky and would like a menu to peruse at your leisure. Avoid. No drinks menu and asking for one will only get you in trouble. The menabrea on tap was nice though.
J. B.
Excellent pub, great selection of beers, very good atmosphere, enjoyed it very much.
It has a stunning range of whiskies, on shelves going from floor to ceiling; which bar staff access using ladders. On occasion, it has traditional music groups playing. Great fun.
J. J.
Good old fashioned pub. Wood and stone. No music bar a traditional group playing the night I was in. Good selection of beers and a great selection of whiskey/malts. Not overly priced. Worth a visit. Busy as well so plenty of life about.
H. D.
Great little pub with friendly staff, delicious sour beer and a very exciting whiskey selection.
C.
Great whisky selection, some nice rum too. It's small but really cosy and comfortable. Also I met this AMAZING dog there, it's was the most pat-able thing I've ever met.
J. C.
Safe space lots of choices of whisky just what we were looking for. Staff lovely and helpful
S. C.
Came between lockdowns and staff were really attentive during table service and had memorised all the lagers on offer. They also helped me find the perfect whiskey for something like £5 or £7.
B. F.
Man really knows his whiskey. Quiet and pleasant.
M. S.
Love this place and so do lots of other people which stopped me giving 5 stars. The service is always quick, its just that this bar is that good it could be filled 5 times over if it was on a bigger premises. That aside excellent selection of whiskies, beers and lagers and attentive staff. Live music has been on the times I have been which I think is just young musicals having a few drinks and getting their guitars and fiddles out in the hope the bar staff ply them with free drink 😁 which creates an awesome atmosphere and an awesome little bar hats off to the management and staff
J. C.
A busy buzzing bar. One of the older bars of the area, that had a timely renovation just before Finnieston become super popular. The interior installation is quite a marvel, many refined details, that harks of old Glasgow artisan craftwork from a bygone era. Ageless and tasteful. Although a small and popular bar, the staff are attentive enough to make sure you get served quickly. The gantry is predominantly loaded with whisky, a real treat! The fantastic atmosphere and wonderful installation, coupled with the friendly staff and regulars makes for a quite authentic Scottish drinking experience. Well worth seeking out.
C. I.
Went here twice in the same evening. The whisky is of course legendary, excellent Crabbies malt of the month on this occasion, but the 🍻 selection is v.good too. It is intimate and you will get drawn into conversation, but that's all as it should be, what a good pub is all about.
B. M.
Popular, great beer, great craic, the live traditional music is brilliant.
A. V.
They have a superb whisky collection, a nice selection of beers on tap and bottle, and a friendly and knowledgeable staff. The malt of the month is always a good deal and they have one of the best Scottish trad sessions in Glasgow 3 nights a week. It's a must stop place.
M.
Nice pub on a nice road. Good staff and beers/ ciders nice and cold. Lots of whiskies to choose from.
J. H.
Fantastic live music. I am not a whisky drinker so i personally can't comment but my friends loved the selection and quality. Staff friendly. Very small pub so quite busy. Highly recommend a visit.
P. A.
Nice small pub. The bar service was very poor. To much time spent with one customer choosing whiskey when bar packed. Girl even let him put his nose to bottle to smell it. Yuck. Also staff nit paying attention to who is next to be served.
N. L.
Went here on a Wednesday night, it was the absolute best. An awesome ten piece folk band rocked up at 9pm and tore it up. Heaps of whisky, and super helpful and friendly bar staff, he was really, really tall too. Go to this place.
R. M.
Great small (emphasis on small) pub with an amazing atmosphere. Drinks are relatively expensive, but not too dear, and well worth it for the aforementioned atmosphere - always packed with friendly people, equally affable staff, and a live folk band can usually be found playing away informally in one of the corners.
R. P.
Great selection of single malt Scotch whisky. Tried malt of a week (Tamdhu 10yrs old from Speyside) and it just sank in wonderfully. The bar has its own amazing charm and seems to be something as Scottish as you can get.
Great place, definitely worth visiting of you're local and even better when just a tourist.
It will definitely be one of the brightest points on my Glasgow map!
I. C.
Just a very good pub with good range of beer and lots of malt whiskies to choose from.
C. D.
Perfect ! We were in Glasgow in December and it immediately became our spot ! Paradise for any whisky lover. Service was amazing with good advice. Traditional music was a must. Thanks a lot for the good times, we will come back for sure ! Merci ! Slàinte !
E. T.
Best dram in town. Selection is ridiculous really, would take a lifetime to get through the lot. Cosy and warm place to head when it's a bit driech ootside.
P. B.
Big selection of Whisky, staff knowledge too if you're unsure what whisky to have just ask them and they'll let you know and they'll sort you out. It's small inside and can get very busy
A. I.
Good range of real ales and whisky. Great price of the malt of the month. Knowledgeable bar staff which is super helpful in picking your next drink.
T. Q.
Great pub. Good beers. Superb whiskey choices. The staff are very knowledgeable about all the choices of drams. And it looks fab inside. You'll enjoy it there.
T. M.
Truly excellent for tasting whisky. Our group of 6 arrived when the place was rather crowded but still received unbelievably good service when choosing which whiskys we would like to taste. The recommended whiskys were to our liking as well, so I would definetly recommend going here if you already somehow know which tastes of whisky you like but simply are not yet familiar with all the names and brands there are. (They can work from "fruity", "smokey" or "something like [something you already know]"). Given that the prices are also very reasonable I would make this a must visit when in Glasgow.
P. H.
New favourite pub. Amazing pint of Guinness accompanied by great traditional music 😀
D. T.
Always my first stop when I hit Glasgow. Good beer, great whisky, basically a good spot any time of day. Sat here right now enjoying great vibes and some live tunes on the fiddle. A++ will be here probably more times than I should in the future.
J. R.
Great staff who advise on whiskey selection. Visited once and then went back for more and the musicians. Great atmosphere, loved it. A must visit when in Glasgow. Thank you Ben Nevis.
E. W.
Huge choice if whiskeys, craft beers..A small but friendly pub which does live music. Very interesting decor Staff were friendly. Would recommend this pub especially to visitors of Glasgow⛰️🚠
C. B.
Can I give this place six stars? Amazing bar. I will say that some of the employees A: don't seem to have too much whiskey knowledge. B: have a hard time understanding American accents. Be patient. Personally I had great service. Other Americans seemed to be impatient and honestly a bit rude, but I felt they also got great service, even when arguing about pronouncing Scottish words (seriously, an American tried to argue with the Scottish bartender about the pronunciation of Oban). We ended up having a pour of what they said was the most expensive whiskey in the bar (Benromach 1976) and it was only £40. Compared to some prices in the states, this is more than fair.
We went twice and had a great experience each time. They had live Celtic music the second night and it was a great way to bid farewell to Glasgow. If you become lost with the whiskey selection, the owner is happy to make recommendations, and not the most expensive. I loved this place and will be back next time in Glasgow!
A. L.
Local pub, great staff, reasonable prices lots of malts what more do you want
D. D.
One of the jewels in Glasgow's crown. Incredible selection of single malts and other whisky. Small but perfectly formed, with fantastic trad music sessions three nights a week.
T. T.
Good whisky & great folk music - expensive though. Be careful to ask the price before you order a whisky: the manager is a scurrilous salesman. I watched some Japanese whisky geeks order a round of 'good' whiskies that cost over £60 for 3 people. They were so shocked that they burst out laughing!
t. w.
Lovely atmosphere. Drinks priced fairly. Service excellent. Social distancing outstanding. They've got it right. Will be back soon x
M. O.
When I described the islay whisky I liked, the staff choose the perfect one, 👌. I highly recommend a visit here.
N. S.
Small, petite, welcoming bar.
Friendly but struggle for a space.
J. v. s.
Great place for a drink and some lively folk music! It does get very crowded in there and it is a shame that they don't serve food as there aren't many "quick" food options on that street.
The place is also dog friendly.
Mother India, as recommended by Nevis staff, is very good though.
S. U.
Perfect! Great pub.
D. N.
Little bar on corner site in West End Argyle St. Some uncommon beers on draught and a huge collection of whiskies, which is clearly its selling point. Fairly authentic Glasgow Bar ambience here, although it’s not a cheap place to drink.
S. W.
One of a few really great whisky bars in Glasgow. A very good range of single malts from across Scotland and staff that can help you choose you’re next new find.
What sets this place apart is it’s quirky design and, of course, the patrons. It’s location in finnieston means it is reasonably young, but whisky also attracts quite a few tourists and locals alike, which makes for some great chat and fun times.
A. Q.
Really nice chilled out place serving a decent pint. Great decor and a whiskey of the month at a discounted price. They don't do food here but it is well worth a visit.
D. M.
Quintessentially Scottish and Glaswegian; friendly, intimate, informal and always full of energy. Great selection of Scotland's whiskies and gins, and also the live traditional music gives it a real feeling of atmosphere.
P. B.
Dog friendly.
A little gem of a bar, cosy and compact, incredible selection of whiskeys, heaps of choice of beers on draught too.
Good luck getting a seat, must be one of the smallest bars in Finnieston.
Fab place.
J. J.
Cosy Scottish pub, with a very good whisky selection. Quirky interior and a good atmosphere. They allow dogs too, like most pubs in Glasgow's West End.
T. C.
I visit Glasgow a few times a year and I always make sure I visit this pub.
The inside of this building has a real charm that keeps me coming back.
The staff really know their whisky here too, I can't recommend this pub enough.
D. C.
Nice pub not too pricy hopefully the music session returns soon but with half the musicians
L. C.
We had soo much fun here! Didnt want to leave! We were lucky enough to get to listen to Traditional Music as well, the musicians just kept coming it was great! Great beers and my friends had amazing cider! Will defs be back when I visit Glasgow again!
L. &. T.
Enjoyed the hustle and bustle of people coming and going, this pub has a fantastic selection of malt whiskies (my favoured tipple) and blended for those who haven't tasted heaven in a glass.
G. M.
Great pub! Theres a plethora of whisky options and also bottled beers and wines for those who just don't feel like a whisky.
M. L.
Arrived to find live music which was great. Great selection of whisky and friendly staff. The pub had a great atmosphere. Would definitely go back.
g. a.
Out in a wee Sunday pub crawl. Staff great acknowledged you right away even though busy. No tv no background music just people enjoying the atmosphere and banter. Some selection of whisky. Lovely jubbly.
N. F.
Been my local for over 20 years. Very popular small bar with extensive whisky selection, live traditional session music and informal atmosphere.
M. C.
Cracking pub, friendly, buzzing, Fyne ale & Fallen beers on hand pull and coloured cans of craft in the fridge. Great whisky selection.
T. S.
Live Scottish music! Awesome vibe. I'll be back.
A. F.
Great hangout spot. Went for a whisky and stayed for the whole night. Incredible selection and an energetic atmosphere. Everyone was incredibly nice, from the bartenders to the other patrons.
M. G.
This pub is an authentic scotittish pub, great whisky selection (which the staff are very knowledgeable). They also have a wood fire in the winter which is very cosy. Dog friendly too 😁
M. S.
Great Pub with a good selection of Single Malts, the staff is knowledgeable about the different Whiskies, we had fun staying there for a few hours
s. n.
lovely PUB vibe. the bartenders help you choose the drink depending on what you are looking for. warm and cozy little place to spend the afternoon with a loved one:)
S. M.
Went there on the trad night. As always, there is a great selection of whisky but no menu so either stare for a long time or ask the staff.
V. R.
A fantastic selection of different whiskys, and the staff is really knowledgable too. A fairly quiet place to have a conversation and a drink or two.
G. C.
Lovely homely feel and very friendly staff
We stole the fireplace seat and the bar staff didn't mind taking their spot. Decoration very modern and welcoming.
Really helpful and fully recommended
D. W.
Warm and inviting public house with a real fire (or perhaps gas-fuelled live flame). Small-sized establishment made for cozy environment. Whisky specialist, 35 ml measures.
C. M.
Rick Steves was right about this place! One of my favorite experiences from a 10 day trip throughout the UK. Make sure you schedule your visit to see local musicans playing folk music.
D. J. M.
Fabulous array of whiskys (A larger dram than accross the broader in England).. Not that busy during my stay, however decor very unusual.... Cosy open fire... ®
L. B.
Lovely whiskey bar with a fireplace.
S. D.
First visit to this pub and was not disappointed, a excellent range of whisky also good beer helpful and friendly staff will definitely go again 🥃.
R. M.
Decent pub, great selection of ales/whiskey. No music made it a shorter visit than anticipated however.
W. P.
If you catch a night with a live session, it's just brilliant.
K. K.
Great pub, great atmosphere with huge selection of dram. I love the spontaneous or planned jamming sessions and the fact that no matter what time of the day you there you will always end up chatting to some interesting person!
T. &. R. S.
Quite a small pub which can get crowded very quickly. Not being a local I found it hard to get to the bar and order. Giod selection of beers and a large range of whiskeys
n. h.
Mostly good experiences here as I like a trad pub and grumpy no-nonsense service. Can’t stand being fussed over. Can be a bit ‘old manny’ and you might get stared at, but there’s no malice intended as probably the clientele is just asleep with their eyes open. Yes, I’ll be back.
R. F.
The Ben Nevis is a perfect example of the quintessential Scottish pub. Cozy, welcoming, with a warm fire, a ridiculously large selection of whisky, and well kept craft beer on tap.
R. T.
Great staff, all H&S in place, social distancing well organised. Service exceptional and will definitely be returning soon.
J. C.
Great selection of whiskeys
I. S. A. D.
I love this place. The bartender may as well be a whiskey historian. The drinks are poured generously. Johnny is the man! This is a Glasgow visitors dream...
G. G.
Staff were lovely ... especially the girl with the orange Jean's.
Chilled out atmosphere. Good beers.
C. P.
A decent little boozer, with a good selection of beers that seem to rotate fairly regularly. Try the Steph Weiss if you like wheat beer - they have it in bottles and, occasionally, on draught!
N. B.
My granddad would love it here..like I did 💛 do..
D. C.
Was there last week. Great atmosphere. Great selection of whiskies.
D. H.
Always in for the live music and incredible Whisky selection. Service is often efficient and friendly.
D. S.
Great pub, amazing whisky selection with qualified staff for recommendations, and fantastic live music.
D. H.
Great wee pub, large selection of beers and whiskies. Weekly folk sessions. Warm friendly atmosphere.
V. F.
Awesome whiskey selection and some good beers on tap. If you're lucky, or plan ahead, you can catch some great music as well.
A. C.
Traditional Scottish type pub, with live music. Great pint of Guinness, big selection of whiskies
K.

D. B.
Cozy pub with live music and great atmosphere.
j.
Love this place, very chilled atmosphere. Great whisky and beer. Our favourite bar in the area.
P. S.
Great pub for dog walkers. Nice selection of beer and spirits, and extremely friendly staff. Very dog friendly and have dog treats on hand.
N. H.
You can walk in, close your eyes and be transported back a few hundred years when hearing the live folk music; I could almost picture people dancing around a bonfire celebrating the harvest, especially when catching a brief wisp of smoke from the log fire.
M. A.
cosy pub, old bothy decor, friendly bar staff, reasonable in price and great #gin and #whisky selection. Great pub for one or 2 drinks before heading to the #ssehydro or #swg3
S. !.
Great pub with good, proper beers and decent whisky selection.
p. c.
