L. L.We stop here for a couple of drinks before heading for dinner. It’s a cool place with nice entertainment for kids. The playground is such a hit for kids! We enjoyed our drinks while our kid was playing. Just be patient with the service especially when you are seated outdoors, as the place is big. Glad the staff still manage to smile on a busy day. Also, very lively for their interior indoors and great space as well, definitely will come back to try their food next time.
A. R.We always love this place. Especially with the wee ones. Tip: always request the sits near the play ground entrance...you can enjoy your meal and watch the kids play outside. Staff are wonderful! Always joking away with the wee ones! 10/10
C. K.I am a regular to the Hungry, and the food is always great. Sandra often serves us and is always happy and helpful. The whole team are great and friendly. I was lucky enough to win a voucher through playing one of their promotional games. We always choose HH because of the great prices and quality of their food.
M. H.Always great food. We bring my mum here every Saturday for lunch the fish and chips is excellent she says. She always has the kids portion as shes only a little person.. Its the crispy batter she loves. We have something off the mixed grill and my son always gets a big burger. We should know the menu off hand. My brother always comes to this one. He recommended this. We love Sandra the waitress she is always on the ball. Very efficient and so pleasant. Sometimes she recommends something for us always makes the right choice.

S.We came here as a party of 20+ and David was brilliant the whole time. He explained the best way for everyone to order so that nothing would be late or mixed it. He was so lovely and friendly. The food was brilliant too and it was very accommodating for the three kids as well.

We sat at the table david was our server came to the table with a friendly manner took our drinks order then came back and took our food order. Our food was delivered quickly which was lovely. A. O.I regularly visit the Hungry Horse, we are welcomed very professionally and friendly. The staff are terrific, always going the extra mile for our various requests. Particularly the staff member Jessica, who always has a lovely smile and nothing is too much bother. Fraser, Rona and Annie just know how to make you feel so welcome, you guys are great. M. M.First time visitor to The Capelrig after some Christmas shopping. I'm vegetarian and although the selection wasn't huge the mushroom and ale pie was delicious. My husband had a mixed grill which he thoroughly enjoyed and said was all well cooked. Or server was Fraser who was very helpful and cheery. Will definitely go back.
F. M.We brought a youth group of 25 for breakfast and the team (Eilidh, Rowan & Caitlin) couldn’t have been more helpful. All 25 breakfast and drinks were provided promptly and 25 full folk left happy! Thanks for hosting us!

B. S.Great value for money. We ordered the Steak and Ale, and the Mushroom and Ale pies. Normally you find these pies small and lacking taste. Far from it here. Tasty and filling - great. Also both meals for under £12. What's not to like?

The waiting staff were lovely,prompt,friendly and so helpful. We sat in the conservatory area at the front of the building and it was lovely and relaxing in there . Thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

I was rather confused and exhausted whilst writing my review.
My husband was upset that his first choice was not available, so he had a steak which was tiny but tasty. I can not recall what I had but I know I was unsure of it. But did feel rushed. We are not local and we're visiting family.

A. S.Aug 2022It is essential a chain pub.....but oh so much better. Good ambiance, decent food, fair value for money. But the service SUPER, just couldn't be nicer, attentive, friendly, so so helpful, if you happen to get Elliott, then sit back and enjoy, just brilliant.

S. T.We ate here many times within a two week period in January, due to staying in a hotel close by. The place is warm and cosy. The food is good - we tried all kinds of different things. The prices are very reasonable - great value for money. There were obviously lots of staff off, due to Covid, but they managed to stay open, and the customers barely noticed the difference. Fraser and the second shift manager, whose name I didn't get, are fantastic. They work very hard, serving food, making drinks, working the till - they never stopped for a second. Well done guys. S. P.The wife and I visited here for lunch. We ordered from the "Two meals for £9.99" menu. I got haddock and chips. It was great, the fish was beautiful. We also got a side portion of onion rings and bread & butter. The onion rings were cold and the bread was stale. That said, the rest of the food was lovely and the place was great. It looks like a fantastic place to bring kids too, there's plenty here for them. We will be back!

We were seated right away and given a menu ,a drinks order was taken whilst we perused the menu. Great service without hovering.food was delicious and the bill extremely reasonable.nice buzz in the place and the staff as always very friendly and attentive
R. F.We turned up with no booking but were promptly shown to a table by a very bright polite waitress. She took our drinks order and returned quickly with them ready to take an order for food. I ordered halloumi which unfortunately was not available so I had a falafel burger. It was ok - I did have to look for the lettuce, tomato and onion which came on the bun with it . The salsa was not exactly plentiful either! My husband had haggis with whisky sauce which he thoroughly enjoyed . Our son had crispy chicken which again he enjoyed. The waitress was very helpful telling us we'd be 40p dearer but 10 onion rings better off ordering a horseshoe rather than 2 portions. Food was served promptly and was hot and fresh. Dessert was delicious, syrup sponge with custard, chocolate fudge cake and ice cream also candy sundae. All staff who helped us throughout our visit were very pleasant and helpful. All in all a great visit.
J.Attend a birthday party. Mixed reports on the food, burgers went down well while the steak was a bit chewy. I think it needs a bit of an upgrade, grubby looking in places.

Lovley and bright and clean. Servers are attentive but not push and really great with the kids. Food is great value and waiting time is fine for good well cooked and good portion sizes. Bar area is child free and comfortable. Been once with grandson (he marked it 110%) and once with disabled mother (she loved it) we all will be back😎😀
D. M.Food was great and really good value. Couldn't book a table, said they don't take bookings after 5pm as they have been so busy. Turned up at 5:10pm to be asked if I had booked a table. I said no I wasn't allowed to book a table after 5pm. Yes that right the young waiter said 😣. Anyway got a table with no wait which was good. Informed that when we were ready take our table number up to the bar and order food there. Went to the bar to order the food and the same person taking your order is also getting all the drinks for everybody's order had to wait about 10mins to get served. Was asked if we wanted to set up a tab so that we didn't have to come back to the bar to order more drinks or dessert, they would take our order at the table.
Food came pretty quick and was delicious. They were quick to clear the table when we were finished but nobody came to see if we wanted more drinks or dessert. I asked the waiter (same guy that met us at the door) if we could order dessert. He told us we needed to go to the bar to do that. I told we had set up a tab and was told we could order at the table. Again he told me I was right but that he couldn't take my order but he would get someone who could. Waited 10 mins they never came, so went up to the bar and waited another 10 mins to order dessert.
I'm guessing (hoping) service will improve as they have just opened and have been exceptionally busy by all accounts. The food is amazing value, they have TV screens in the booths playing kids TV and an outside play area. We will definitely be going back.

J. M. R.Very busy and we were seated in an odd area, almost as if we were in a thoroughfare. The staff were nice but there were several errors with the order and the standard of my dish wasn't great; it was fine but there was no pride in its cooking nor presentation. Dessert came and my daughter was told there were no cones for her ice cream only to then sit beside someone who had the unicorn dessert, complete with cone... Of course it'll be a pre made thing probably but when you are 5 that makes no sense!
The (outdoor) play area is fine but hectic.
It is what it is! Goes like a fair and saves cooking at home!

A. U.Just back from a family meal at the Capelrig. We had the nachos with the chilli beef as a sharing starter which was amazing. 10/10. We all then ordered the chicken skeweres with different sauces. My son ordered the hot hot hot sauce, as he likes spicy stuff. OMG this sauce was so hot it made the chicken skewers which is was poured all over inedible. I tried some and my mouth and lips were numb and it was impossible to taste any other food as my mouth was on fire. If the sauce was put in a dish on the side this would have been much better, as I doubt there are many people who would be able to eat this sauce. It kind of ruined the meal for my son anyway. The rest of the accompaniments that went with this meal were very nice. I think they should maybe put the sauces in a dish at the side for you to add yourself.
