Reviews of The Counting House - JD Wetherspoon
P. M.
A heritage building bang opposite to Glasgow Queen Street and it deserves the crowd that it draws. Another wetherspoon people might say but you cannot beat the price of a pint and food and at such a central location. We went a few times just for the food and also because there was a lack of a decent setting at this price point around this place. Child friendly till 9 PM which is reasonable and we saw quite a few families as well. I would pass the Indian offerings though there are quite some there and stick to the Pizzas and Dessert. We tried the apple Bramble with cream and it was delicious. I read some critics on delays in food reaching the table. To be fair it did take some time, but not very much and instead have to give credit to the boys and girls working so hard there. We need to be a bit generous to their hard work while catering to such a huge crowd and not be very fussy about it.
C. R.
Very nice establishment, fantastic building and surroundings, extremely busy and popular bar.
As always great service, great drinks great food and even better prices.
A. A.
Beautiful inside, good quality food and drink at an affordable price. Great service considering the size of the place.
We had the haggis pizza, garlic pizza bread and the loaded fries. The drinks were great too.
Definitely one of the better Wetherspoons in Glasgow.
R. M. (.
Huge pub, huge outside area, nicely decorated and chokka block.
Nice view outside of the square.
C. J.
Went for a quick drink. Place was packed. A bar server said she'd be right with. Eventually I was served and asked for a couple of tasters of the hand pulled ales. Bar lady more than happy to oblige. Ordered two pints but it took a while for them to arrive. Place doesn't seem all that clean. Too bust serving drinks than wiping down tables.
J. M.
Perfect location, most likely had the most affordable and one of the best beer in Scotland, we paid around 2.5 £ for the big beer and was very delicious
W. P.
Must have caught it on a bad night?
The building is stunning both inside and out. A large bar with plenty of seating and standing space.
Service was quick and as ever a reasonable price.
The toilets for once are not a hike away, however there are a steep set of stairs to navigate. Many failed this and a tumble down seems commonplace. The toilets this night were horrid. A warm smell of vomit hit me a look down to see rivers of it, turned on my heels and waited until the next bar. Feel for the cleaners.
Would have been 4 stars otherwise.
S. C.
Beautiful building. Breakfast was terrible. Only in the city for a couple of days, came here for breakfast the first day. Only hot thing on my breakfast was the coffee, which was odd since I ordered hot chocolate. Beans were so cold I don't think they were ever heated up. Eggs - cold. Bacon- cold. Just awful. I'm sure it would've been nice if it was hot. Oh well
J. M.
Amazing food, fantastic service, a great environment and the price isn't too bad for that kind of quality. I loved it personally but if you're physically disabled in anyway I'm not sure how you would navigate the stairs, hence only the four stars. I couldn't see any wheelchair access or lifts, etc., but I may be wrong.
M.
Fast service, fair prices, gorgeous architecture, really impressive place.
M. S.
Beautiful building centrally located in George Square ........excellent prices for food and drink. We were there just before Christmas......very busy and cold (wrap up well).
M. H.
We don't usually eat and drink at a spoons when away from home but this pub was excellent
Cheap, clean, quick service and a brilliant beer garden. We would definitely come again. We had some good and were amazed by the quality of the pizzas.
A. C.
Lovely pub, in a beautiful building.
Great prices for drinks.
Shame about the breakfast - was served lukewarm and not particularly tasty
J. D.
Met a couple of chinas for breakfast: quick, friendly service and reasonable food at good prices. Not the warmest establishment I've ever been in but I am NOT complaining, given the current hike in electricity prices especially to commercial premises. I would rather have my eateries open and trading than having to close because of factors outwith their control
L. _.
Been going to this pub for years, usually to meet friends/family for lunch on days off. Gorgeous surroundings, often busy, great priced alcohol (and refillable hot drinks).
Been some years since I bought food in a Wetherspoons pub, but I'd wager it's still not good (likely microwaved fare). If food expectations aren't high it's a cheap and easy place to meet for drinks and a nibble, next to George Square.
K. E.
Beautiful building, great prices, average food, smallish portions. Definitely worth going especially to smash a pint or 2
T. T.
Very busy place. Nice food. You can wait a while for your food to arrive. Dishwasher must have been out of order, so many pills of crockery and literally a thousand dirty glasses on counters. These things can't be helped
M. L.
Good restaurant, prices are ok, good burgers. regular live music
S. G.
Nice architecture and lots of seating for small to medium groups. Order delivery was extremely quick, the only downside was trying to get your order in to the person behind the bar you have to hope they are keeping track of who is next in line, they would benefit having segmented queue lines making it easier to get your order in' this would also freeing up space for people wanting to sit at the bar.
N. W.
Nice place for drinks or quick lunch but the food is rushed and takes ages to get served at the bar. I went for breakfast with my friend and at 10:45 I went to the bar to order and the girl behind the bar looked at the clock judging the time then to say we're gonna stop taking orders now for breakfast even though I still had time to order. When I replied with "why have you stopped taking orders" the reply I got was " I don't know the kitchen is just going to stop" was a bit disappointing considering it wasn't too busy for a day during the week but I do understand the staff work really hard and are non stop.
L. R.
Great breakfast very tasty. Service was excellent. Let down by the fact that we were given one napkin between two with our cutlery and we ordered a portion of black pudding which is advertised as two slices of black pudding, this however was served on a roll. The roll was wasted as not eaten, no point returning as would have wasted black pudding too by replacing it.
S. W.
Considering it was a weekend at Christmas time and the place was packed you could not argue about the service. Never waited more then a minute or two for service and even while I was being serviced 2 other bartenders would ask you if you were being served. Pretty pleased and as always you could buy a decent round of drinks at a reasonable price.
D. G.
Food was decent. Tables a little cramped together and took 40 minutes for drinks to arrive via app on a Tuesday night. Prices good as would expect from Wetherspoons. Building very cool.
D. D.
Lots of little rooms like most weatherspoons but nice pub
R. C.
Very, very busy bar. And it's not a small bar!!! Popped in with the hope of a bite to eat & a quick pint. We were lucky to get a table wae at the back. Ordering food via the app was so simple & service was fairly quick.
a. m.
Great prices for drinks. Food is reasonable, table service available which is usually quicker than going to the bar yourself. Can be difficult to find a table at weekends.
H. M.
Great location in the heart of Glasgow City centre 👌.when we visited, it was in December, and the Christmas markets were on. Beautiful architecture all around, including the Counting House .friendly and welcoming staff with reasonable prices for food and drink . Highly recommended
E. O. S.
Wasn't expecting much, but was i surprised. Food excellent i had the steak children had pizza, chicken burgers and tikka Masala with sides and everyone happy and finished it off with dessert. Prices very good. 👍. Well be back
D. P.
Whatever the occasion. You can't go wrong here. If it's a meal, date, drink, meeting. The Grand old Counting House (completely made up by the way lol) is the place. Situated in the heart of the city and inside a building that used to be a bank (Counting House)
S. H.
On the corner of George Square, typical spoons, busy, tables with plates on. Managed to find a table, cheap drink and food, all you need. Good atmosphere and staff friendly enough. It's ok, don't expect touch
M. W.
This can be very busy and noisy. Despite its size, it can also be difficult to find a table.
Service though for food once ordered is good although a wait at the bar can be expected. Using the app is advised when it is busy.
Y. P.
Great atmosphere. Drinks and food reasonably priced
R. W.
Busy pub but good atmosphere and a good chance of getting a table as it's vast inside. This old bank is definitely one of Wetherspoons greats, with plenty of good beers always available.
M. F.
Spent the evening here just before Christmas, super busy with revellers, great atmosphere.
Service via app a little slower than usual due to demand.
Another great Weatherspoons.
M. S.
One of my favourite places to visit whilst in Glasgow. Good food, good service and a vibrant atmosphere. All just a few steps away from Queen Street station.
P. J.
Food arrived on time:)
drinks were brought in 10 mins after we'd finished our meals😊
c.
Great service from some very hard working young people. Got fed and had drinks. Very good value for money.
J. D.
You can tell this place gets busy....dishes stacked up at serving counters, sticky and uncleared tables...an all round tired looking place, even the glass dome appears to have had poor repair attempt...which is a shame, not as good an experience as previous visits...
B. T.
First off this place is kid friendly before 9pm. You must seat yourself and use an app to order. It works well as it is very efficient. No time wasted waiting and paying for the bill. The selection of drinks is HUGE. The specials and food in general is good value. I had a great time. I would like to see fewer fruit flies if possible. The old bank location is pretty cool. Go check out the vaults.
d. l.
All right for a Wetherspoons, service at times could be quicker, prices as usual are good, the food was reasonable, the downer was the nachos all nice on top but the crumbs were hidden underneath then being asked to pay for an extra portion of salsa,
M. B.
It's a Wetherspoon's, the queues are often long, the place uncomfortably rammed and the typical clientele can be a bit haphazard. That said it's one of the only places in Glasgow that sells actual real ale, and it was genuinely kept really well, so a boost to 4 stars for that!
s. s.
Great location within easy reach of both train and bus stations. Food is lovely and service waS quick and staff great and really helpful. Would highly recommend giving this a try.
P.
Brilliant place with great beer choice .Very busy but plenty of seating and rapid friendly service oh cheap prices in superb building
L. L.
Breakfast was not upto Spoons's usual high standard.
G. G.
Nice building, food was ok .
But they need more staff serving customers, 13 mins to be served at the bar is a little too long !
S. K.
Nice location inside the old Bank of Scotland building (Italian Rennaisance if you're interested). Decent food and good service.
C. w.
Good place to start off your evening plenty of beers on tap and bottles enough staff so service was prompt
M. H.
Beautiful building. Restaurant can be a little loud. It is always busy... but service is always quick and the food is always delicious.
R. D.
Of all the many wearherspoons in Glasgow this is the best, the nicest building, grand, clean, friendly staff. For breakfast it takes some beating great for the price and tasty.
p. b.
One of the best Wetherspoons I've been to.
Stunning interior design due to the Bank of Scotland being housed here around 100 years ago. A vibrant atmosphere due to the unique design that is spacious and yet quite a few quirky booths.
Certainly, one to visit when in Glasgow
R. C. B.
I popped in just for the toilet and the door man was really nice and directed me towards them. Hands up to him going above and beyond in hospitality. Lastly was very nice and lively inside.
D. N.
Nothing too exciting than their decor if you enjoy architecture and story-telling. You'll find some of your typical Scottish pub food here with you've guessed it- the European-Indian faves. Despite their average offerings this spot is quite popular and sells out really quickly. so dine early and stay late topping up on beverages like a Stone Fruit Cider!
P. E.
Typical Weatherspoons. The food is nice enough and the building is impressive. Staff were really friendly and helpful. I was also impressed that there is an app that allows you to order your food at the table and pay for it with your phone through the app. Food and drink isn't that expensive. The bar is very close to Queen Street train station so it nice to pass the time while waiting for the train.
B. D.
Worth a visit just to see this beautiful building, right in the centre of Glasgow. Otherwise it's exactly what you'd expect from a Wetherspoons - good range of beers at reasonable prices and pub grub.
S. T.
The counting house is always a good first stop if youve just arrived in glasgow by train. Couple of minutes from the station, on the corner of george square. large and spacious, friendly enough and foods good.
Visited on sunday 11th december
whilst christmas shoppin. We ordered traditional breakfast. Although it was served pretty quickly it was just ok and they had no eggs.
n. l.
Great value when you pay £3.80 for 2 refillable coffees and 2 small pks of biscuits and there menu prices are great too.
C. B.
Sunday afternoon, quieter than a Saturday, but a better atmosphere and served promptly which helps.
A. H.
Even though it's a Spoons and I generally try to avoid their pubs, I must admit this place has got a lot going for it. Huge place so ideal for a big group - there were 23 of us altogether and we all got seated together no problem. Genuinely attractive surroundings, very high ceilings and a great location. Good selection of beers I must admit.
J. K.
I was surprised to see so many things on their menu - from fish and chips and pizza to pasta and curry. Food was good. It is not a fancy place but more of a big casual restaurant/pub.
D. d.
The usual spoons pub good atmosphere cheap drink. Never had food. Large pub good for meeting others 👍
B. S.
Very impressed. Above average Spoons pub. Very busy day served reasonably quick.
A. G.
No Scottish breakfast. Food ok. Building worth a visit as an old bank.
T. a. l. i. F.
Within 5 minutes of Queen Street station and next to George Square, this Wether spoon on the site of the Bank of Scotland, is always busy. There are outdoor tables in George Square. Service is reasonably fast and you can order from the table.
D. H. (. F.
Typically busy Weatherspoons pub in a nicely converted building with stunning interior features. Order and pay from table works well with the App and avoids queuing at the busy bar. Prices are really cheap with double measures of spirits particularly good value.
s. t.
This pace was extremely busy at the time and it took about an hour for our food to come but it was worth it as it was amazing
M.
Enjoy your pint right next to George square! Lovely decor and a great selection of beverages and quick snacks. If you're looking for a fine dining experience I would look somewhere else.
J. S.
Would of been 5* but it is not very wheelchair friendly. 1 lift, multiple wheelchair users. In the center of a busy square. Had my daughter who requires a wheelchair. Security helped me carry her up the stairs due to the lift choosing when it wants to work..
P. D.
A good city centre pub. Great news... It opens from 7am for breakfast, which is good if you find yourself in the city that early because you just got off the overnight sleeper train! Really impressive building, inside and out. Decent breakfasts and also great as a pub during the day. Two minutes walk from Queen Street station, ten minutes from Central station.
Great pub.
S. P.
Love it! This is one of the best Wetherspoons I've been in and I've visited a lot! Fantastic building with lots of history and great things to look at. It's wonderful to see the old vault still in place. Although it's a large building there are lots of little separate seating areas so feels quite cosy. Large selection of beers available. Great location overlooking George Square. Nice relaxed atmosphere. As usual for spoons the prices are very reasonable. If you only have time to visit one pub while you're in Glasgow I'd recommend here!
E. T.
Good pub with loads of choice for drinks A bit hit or miss on food though my breakfast could have been tasty but half food was cold. My husbands eggs benedict was excellent.
A. C.
Extremely impressed with value for money staff enthusiasm! And general upkeep of inside and outside of premises Food excellent and friendly banter with staff lovely experience ! See u all again v soon x
A. S.
It’s a Weatherspoons, you know what you are gonna get. Simple, good prices, no frills. What makes this place is that it is always buzzing, the location is ideal and opening up outside just adds to the party (when the weather is OK)
A. k.
Beautiful day, celebration of our queen going on in George Square I had a couple of drinks service was fast enough, food looked good I never had any everyone seemed happy both out and inside it's great if you like pub grub and affordable drinks, great sitting out people watching but with our weather I think outside tables will soon disappear
M. R.
Wetherspoons pubs are hit and miss. This one offers fantastic service inside an opulent former bank. The building is beautiful and there's an extensive terrace onto George Square where you can admire the poor old Duke of Wellington's traffic cone-shaped head. He has a similar skin tone to Donald Trump. Unfortunately, just like all other Wetherspoons, drinkers take priority over people wanting a meal so there's nowhere to sit and eat if all the tables are occupied by drinks-only customers. If only Wetherspoons would reserve some of the tables for diners it would improve my quality of life no end and prevent me from moaning on here.
o.
Waited for 35 minutes for a wrap and chips. Hardly any salad in the wrap and it was burnt haloumi. Service should be quicker as there was lots of empty tables
P. J.
An extremely busy bar due to its prime location, food is good as is the service. The building is superb
m.
Awesome vibe and great food and drinks. It can be a bit crowdy, but that's a good indicator, right?! Loved it and will go again the Next time I visit Glasgow.
F. W.
A male member of staff approached some young girls next to me, , he asked if they were OK after some random guy tried to talk nonsense to them, which was very nice to see , great customer care, very good to see.
P. M.
It is your typical JD Wetherspoons pub. Big grand old building in a city centre, full of Saturday night revelers before heading to clubs. Cheap drink for a city centre and plenty of room.
R. F.
Neither bad nor special. If you know Wetherspoon you’ll probably know what you get. Location is great. Children welcome, baby change possible.
P. S.
I'm always amazed by the transformation from bank to bar. Wetherspoons are fabulous at this, keeping the buildings history in their refurbs. I always visit when in Glasgow, either for lunchtime/afternoon/ evening drinks, or breakfast. Good range of real ales and always well kept!
E.
Good pub for cheap drinks, only downside is the very long waiting time at the bar and the fact that you cant sit outside after 10 PM.
J. S.
A lovely building just around George Square in Glasgow I was there on Steak club Tues. The steak was a bit tough it's a shame as meal was tasty. I had red wine and a large glass of water, as I was thirsty after travelling to Glasgow, with my meal, that was lovely and refreshing; the building is under refurbishment but doesn't interfere with diners it is an old bank and one of the first Georgian buildings in George Square...and a listed building. Wetherspoons need to up their game on their steak suppliers as I've not had a tender steak at the franchise for a while. Great atmosphere and a popular venue in Glasgow's fair city...reasonably priced as always great service by friendly staff
r. m.
Great interesting venue. Very noisy on Saturday late afternoon. Worth a visit, but if you want to talk then visit off peak
D. B.
Burger chips poor 80 shilling poor. Staff nice service good. But not for me antmore
a. s.
Very good place to visit.
Drinks are awesome at very reasonable prices.
Good ambiance.
Moderate crowded.
J. D.
A beautiful building but vastly over crowded and certainly not for those of us who dislike extreme amounts of noise and reverb. The dome & vaults however... They're epic features!
K. K.
Like any spoons trip we enjoyed ourselves but it was incredibly loud surrounded by shouting teens which made talking in a small group very difficult and this tarnished the experience
The food is a standard spoons which is very reasonable
J. L.
Lovely building . Although wooden floors would have been more in keeping than horrible carpet .
Prices good .
Extremely busy when we went.
Disabled toilet
D. K.
Great place to meet and have a drink and meal. First class service and the staff were really helpful and friendly.
D. A. W.
Have a family reunion with family from overseas and the staff were so friendly and helpful with everything including what best Scottish drinks to have and what type of foods to try .
S. H.
Friendly fast efficient service. Quality food at affordable prices. What more can you ask for.
B. H.
Very busy bar with friendly staff, good food let down by the worst gents toilets I've ever seen. The toilet floor around the urinals was flooded.
t. a.
I think it was a bank before saw 2 vault, very high dome ceiling maybe over hundred years building. went there for breakfast, typical Scottish standard breakfast with free flow coffee, guest is a great place for beer and to hang out, over 200 hundred beer offered. Friendly staff.
L. B.
For its place in the customer market it cannot be beaten! The staff are always civil and friendly. Food is fresh and very reasonably priced and a great choice of wine and beers. Thank you.
B.
Good food. Reasonably priced...Well that depends on what you call good food. I enjoyed the gish and chips.
T. K.
One of the best location in Glasgow City Centre.
K. M.
Very quick service and the place was jumping... Great food and atmosphere...
D. C.
Fantastic value for money would recommend for business meetings as coffee is massively less expensive with top ups as and when required .
M. S.
Too busy, very rowdy and noisy. Food was good and staff were very polite and friendly.
L. M.
Very busy. Great prices. Good food.
B. L.
Lovely venue,. Staff helpful, good selection of drinks.
S. S.
Lovely building very old like sp many Wethererspoon's .food is what you'd expect nothing special.quick service
J. T.
Who doesn't love a Wetherspoons!? The app is really easy to use and drinks tend to come fairly quickly. I love a good breakfast! It is hard to find a table sometimes.
R. A.
This pub is beautiful inside, huge bar area and extremely friendly staff. Door staff were very helpful. Beer was brilliant, altogether a great introduction to Friday nights in Glasgow
A. Y.
Been a couple of times, service and quality is inconsistent, went once and it was great, no issues. went today, breakfast was late, toast was burnt to the point where it was inedible.
On a good day its like any other decent spoons, but whether you'll get a good day or not is just luck.
R. E.
This is a must see place. This old bank still has the two vaults inside that you can walk in. Many draft brews to choose from the food is also good here. This historic place is awesome to see.
M. O.
Got most of our orders wrong but were most obliging and friendly. I think there are staffing issues to the point it effects all aspects of service be it getting a pint at the bar, clearing tables, getting orders right or the state of the toilets. All these were found wanting. The food (though not usually what's ordered) is nice and all well priced.
B.
Ornate building, great beer selection, tasty food, friendly staff. Can get busy.
M. M.
Great meeting up place, service good drinks priced ok we will be back x
J. C.
Friendly staff but the breakfast was cold and you have to order toast as an extra item for the small breakfast. This never used to be the case. The toast wasn't very warm either.
R. W.
Very nice but hard to get served unless your willing to be ignorant and jump the que, staff could be more alert to this.
M. J.
Vibrant atmosphere with Italian Renaissance design. Located next to George Square where is the main tourist attraction of Glasgow. Plenty of beers and alcohol stuff are fully available.
A. S. R.
Great place with great value for money. Interiors are really good. Ordering my app is the best and most convenient way. I would definitely recommend using the app.
A. S.
Nice big place good breakfast and really good service only thing that I have a problem is that I feel that it doesn’t get cleaned as my table was dirty and menu very sticky but all good besides that.
S.
Never changed much from Day 1...still good but new outlook and change would benefit the Counting House.
J.
Great pub, nice atmosphere - consistently great beers.
N. S.
First time there, lovely atmosphere, food was delicious, will be back, when home again in Glasgow
J. H.
Service slow, reduced menu as no fryers working. Probably because it was a holiday weekend and they needed everyone in the bar. Would have been good if they had advertised that b4 u got to the bar that had a notice stuck on it as had already qued for half hr to be served.
V. F.
Had a great couple of hour here with family food was great drinks cheap enough. Go check it out ⭐🌈
A. K.
Amazing building, but such a long wait for beers on a Tuesday evening you'd be better off bringing your own. I'd imagine they have more staff on the weekends
J. W.
Had lunch here, cheap and cheerful. Can get busy tho. Food ok for price, and drinks reasonable
D. W.
Huge place. Drinks are a little expensive, food is good, nothing to write home about but not bad by any means. Service can be slow, but the atmosphere is nice enough to make up for it.
B.
Its a wotherspoons so the drink is cheap and varied. Very mixed crowd.
Reduced my rating to 3 stars after a staff member tried to say I couldnt stay outside at 21.50. He had a cry.
S. C.
Love coming here as the prices are reasonable and always found the staff are really helpful and cheery. Served today by Josh who was awesome (no he's not family and I am not staff)
M. F.
Disappointing to find out they had no bread for the breakfasts and could not supply scrambled eggs. Food was cold and lacked flavour. You get what you pay for, cheap food. I wouldn't recommend.
S. P.
The interior is 1 of the most majestic in Glasgow. And, this is allied to most reasonable prices. Excellent selection of real ales, although a third were unavailable when I visited. Best Not visit at the weekend as it becomes so so Bizzy.
C. M.
Good drink. Good service. Not very nice toilets
H. M.
Very old but kept amazingly. Places set up inside for photos of a good night out.
R. G.
Half of the breakfast menu (at least my first three choices) were not available. Also, extras do not include black pudding or haggis as an option.
I felt that choice was very restricted.
G. C.
It’s a Wetherspoon’s pub. Large selection of beers, wines and spirits and usual menu choices. Very large pub so lots of space and very centrally located next to George square.
v. f.
Witherspoon pub. Great big pubs food is awesome always busy. You want to try it. Go check it out 👏💯⭐🌈
G. H.
Great value, quick service, busy venue with a brilliant atmosphere
P. B.
‘spoons innit, classic vintage building with a modern Wethers twist, lots of small rooms to plonk yourself for a beer after a stoat around Glasgow, couldn’t be more central and benefits from bargain spoons pricing, awesome people watching overlooking George Square
J. R.
Ok a Sunday for the price alcohol is good ! It is part of weatherspoon and having to order from the app and be delivered to your table is great. Reduced one star my first order was forgotten and had to go to the bar to check and also staff cleared my alcohol people pitcher and table when I just went to the toilet ! Ambience is good !
G. M.
Good location but very busy and not enough staff for the time of year.
L. J.
One of the nicest spoons I've ever been to. Gorgeous decoration; high ceilings but still has atmosphere. Great selection of craft beer. Staff are good and is in a great location.
M. R.
Great Atmosphere Friendly Staff Tasty Food And Drink
T. B.
Lovely staff nice pint of Doom bar, nice food xxx recommend highly xxx
Z. Z.
This is supposed to be a kangaroo burger on George Square. Cold roll and cold cheese. Just a roo burger shoved in. I would gladly pay more if thats the case of keeping prices low by the vendor. Meat was really good though.
T. G.
Big place, very busy, ordered drinks through app, had to ask waiter how long for drinks, he was very helpful.
R. M.
Such a beautiful building, one of the best places to go for a cheap city centre pint!
C. f. S.
Beautiful food, great prices and offers
Would recommend and the service is great that's why I gave 5 stars.
B. 8.
Had vegetarian breakfast and coffee
J. J.
Food good and reasonably price . Visited on a Wednesday eve and very busy inside and outside. When food was ordered came quickly
S. J.
Nice clean and friendly. Disappointed they didnt serve bloody marys at breakfast time- we were on holiday and celebrating.
J. M.
Typical jd weatherspoons . Very busy .food and drink prices are cheap and a good location .very nice buildin inside and out.
K. F.
-It's good if you come before the peak hours, otherwise you will NOT get a free spot. And I'm talking about students nights, Friday and Saturday night. Also if there is a popular football match on (rangers/celtic), you also might not get a free spot and be prepared for a lot of shouting of "Ayyyy" or "NOOOO". And at peak hours it's SO loud that you can't hear the person even if they sit on the other side of the tiny round bar table.
- I do love the atmosphere, the aesthetic vintage look of the place, but with time it starting to look a little tired.
- Staff are generally nice but look overworked (tired) during evening hours, always scared for them to trip while they carry the drinks.
- Ordering from the phone app will take forever for the staff to bring the drink, it's faster if you order at the bar itself.
- Pretty view from the windows
- Amazing food, doesn't take long to arrive at the table
- Big variety of drinks
- free refills for hot drinks, but you have to pour them yourself and took me forever to find the machine... Then I got sent to the other machine becaus eone is for tea and other for coffee. They are places on other sides of the pub, my partner grew a beard by the time I returned with my tea.
- toilets always been clean, the corridor with steps that leads to them is very narrow so beware of drunk people storming through and don't trip
-beautiful entrance, the bouncers seem respectful
B. M.
Good use of an old bank building. Seemed like a good combination of a local hang out with floating tourist place. If I had longer in town I would work my way around every beer on tap.
K. J.
Great pub. Staff are lovely and nicely done out.
m. d. c.
5 stars location in the heart of Glasgow City centre. The building ex bank of Scotland is noe hosting a wetherspoons branch. Drinks and food are really cheap although surrounded by really expensive restaurants and bars. Reccomended for anyone who visits the city or waiting for clubs time.
A. K.
One of the most happening pubs in Glasgow. Goes without saying it's a wetherspoons so the prices are reasonable. Love everything about this place. Great location, ambience, staff, facilities, service and plenty opportunities to make friends. Definitely recommend visiting the pub when in Glasgow.
S. C.
Relatively cheap and cheerful. Easy to overlook the splendid decor and surroundings.
B. L.
Its a weatherspoons so you pay for what you get. Foods always been nice and drinks. Cheap and cheerful. Tables always sticky and rubbish left behind. All spoons seem to be the same unfortunately.
B. E.
Picked the wrong night, freshers everywhere, and understaffed, but those who were working done a great job against the odds. But overall only 3*
E. B.
Beautiful place and the staff were very kind and very efficient. The food was delicious and the beer was even better. I would definitely come back.
J.
Nothing beats wetherspoons especially at this iconic location with a views of George square and Citty chambers - placed in a historic building full of original features in an ambient that will make you feel special. The biggest outdoor garden and sitting area in the touching ground of George Square. Kids welcome too
k. l.
Good bar staff that engage with clientel. Fairly priced drinks and food. Spectacular old bank building no longer enjoying its finest hour and could surely be put to better use than a Spoons.
D. W.
Very busy for mid week, but got served quite quickly. Food order was great, not what your normally expect at a JD's.
A. S.
Nice place, got served quickly and locals were friendly.
A. S.
Friday evening and packed and noisy. Wi fi ordering compromised by the volumes of people using it. But interesting building with outside seating in use in George Sq. Not a time nor place for a quiet chat, better for a hen party.
C. M.
Very good value for money, steak was perfectly cooked, and though the drinks were ordered on the app they turned up after the food ordered at the bar. Not a real issue but maybe should look at the times to deliver drinks.
R. M.
Beautiful friendly pub, staff were very attractive. Food was excellent and good value
E. K.
what a great place, plenty of choice, great atmosphere, friendly staff.
must be difficult getting the right staff balance, the place always seems very busy. Always worth a visit, recommend to the thirsty traveller.
A. S.
Always worth a visit when in Glasgow. Best prices, great beer, fantastic old building with amazing domed roof, Great atmosphere, food always great quality, friendly serving staff. I'll be back.
M. L.
To busy with under age ppl.
Top respect for the bar staff 👏 👌
A. H.
Great vibe, good meals and very friendly service where staff kept asking if everything was okay.
K. S.
Very very busy, so food took a while, but it's Wetherspoons, cheap and cheerful and it is Glasgow so busy always gona happen
G. M.
Very busy with few seats and very few staff serving - a long wait for table service!
G. S.
Very busy but decent mid morning pint and bacon roll
N. N.
Loved it. Has a great selection of food and beer. I had a really tasty burger and would definitely come back again.
J. L.
Beautiful old building used to be a bank, one of the most beautiful wetherspoon pubs we have visited cross the UK. This place almost full at anytime, but we always managed to find somewhere we could enjoy few beers with or without meal. It has a very small outside sitting area on the street(for smokers I think) beers are the cheapest you can find around as all wetherspoon are and some are pretty good.
l. p.
Food good and drinks cheap - good value for money - beautiful building
B. G. M.
Absolutely huge spoons. Genuinely massive. Also a cool building with some nice history inside. Cheap as always
J. M.
Very busy city center pub, great food , great service
J. K.
Cosy atmosphere and highly trained bartender, perfect place for a drink with friends or for work meeting. Prices are highly convenient and the variety of beers and cocktails is satisfying. Toilet is clean and comfortable.
D. M.
Always good 👍 Very popular and a great location for meeting up !
D. I.
The counting House is a bar that you can't go wrong with, they have the best unicorn pink gin in glasgow to offer and the food is also a delight on the palate! The service is very nice and polite. Can be crowded but worth the wait if you have to !
S. G. (. G.
Busy at the time we went in but still managed to get a table and we were still served in a decent amount of time
F.
Least favourite spooons in Glasgow as it feels pretty cramped... That being said, it's a spooons, cheap drink & cheap foood! If that's what your after then it's ideal 🤷♂️
M. B.
Always good. Competitive prices, staff friendly and always clean
V. S.
Lively place and great architectural building.
Also food is fabulous
A. L.
Visited for a works do, surprisingly the toilets are not as far as other spoons 😅. Lovely inside!
a. c.
Very nice hot panini and hot 🔥 chips.
Lovely Titanic Plum Porter beer.
Reasonably busy, clean tables, friendly staff, 2 of the girls serving on tables have been there a long time.
a. l.
Very busy place food was ok but fish was overcooked
I. W.
Always a good atmosphere and cheap drink, works well for me. With the table service from the app it is close to 5, stick to drinks you get 5 star, with food takes the rating down somewhat.
Still doing well, don't get the nachos but the drink is good
M. M.
Beautiful location and great authentic Scottish food, whisky and gin!
T. H.
Typical Spoons, nice, clean and cheap. Had a lovely meal before shopping and after shopping
C. b.
Great place! Always busy but it makes for a great atmosphere! Drinks and food are always yummers. Staff helpful as always but be prepared, of you need to go to the bathroom you have a 100 floor adventure waiting for you 😂😂
P. D.
Enjoyed it , nice food , was with great company good night out
B. M.
Much the same with all Weatherspoon pubs..food is absolutely disgusting but it's ok for cheap drink
J. Y.
Takes too long to be served not enough staff for the size of the bar but great outdoor seating
c. v. h.
Nice food. Very busy. Friendly staff
D. S. S. K.
This place is amazing! It's got lovely interiors, with high windows and high chairs alongside ample space. The food as well it's extremely delicious and filling with unlimited coffee variants. The sit out facility is also smashing where one can enjoy the weather and chill with friends around... Must visit place, by all means, topped with an favorable pricing.
G. S.
Lovely old building, even though they were short staffed they were cheerful and tried to help everyone
R. D.
Nice building, especially at night when lit up. Very quick service when using the app.
A. R.
One of the best Wetherspoons buildings in my opinion. The building is a former bank of Scotland head office, the decor and interior is spectacular with a huge dome in the ceiling and lots of statues. The vaults were preserved and now you can have a drink sitting there.
As all Wetherspoons it is relatively cheap, but the quality of food is not the best. It is also dirty and staff doesn't care about cleaning much. Still good enough place to get a few cheap drinks
F. M. H.
It's a spoonies you know what you are getting. Have to say the table layout in the corner I was in was tight not much room to move
D. D.
Made the mistake of going for the small portion of fish and chips, the cider was great.
p. a.
Prices are good but a lot of dirty tables
A.
I was expecting a cold carbonated beer, but got a flat tepid one. Good though and for a low price
J. F.
Coolest wetherspoons I've been in... And due to my chronic alcoholism, there have been many.
T. S.
Breakfast was quick to be served but was not the standard of other wetherspoons on this occasion
Q. M.
Great old building overlooking George Square. Lots of seating inside in different little areas and a large seating area outside. Friendly staff. Can get really busy Fri, Sat nights. Service at the bar can be slow so I tend to use the app and the stairs leading down to the toilets are narrow.
S. M.
Good vibe. Reasonable price. Normally crowded
R. “. B.
Great spot near George Square right in the centre of town. Great beers, food and desserts. Reasonably priced and heaps of seating. Definitely somewhere I'd recommend for a casual lunch or evening.
G. M.
Nice pub,decent prices, friendly staff
T. T. G. M.
Beautiful building, next to George Square. I was there on a week day, during office hours and yet the place was absolutely packed and there were queues for thr bar. As typical of this Wetherspoons' chain, it is cheap for food and drink. I was in my own, so it was a great opportunity to sit and people watch for a while, on a wee breather in the city.
Due to the popularity of the pub, it took ages to get served. It's proba ly the longest I have ever waited to get served in a pub and I almost turned and left. It was also hard to find a seat or table. The tables were all crammed in next to each other too (not great in Covid times). For these reasons, I haven't given this pub a 5 star.
That said, the staff were all very hard working and didn't stop. It's just a very popular pub due to its location and prices. There are other Wetherspoons in Glasgow and I'd probably go to one of them next time, to see if they are a bit quieter.
B. K.
Like all Wetherspoons it has good value food an drink but
make sure you look up at the beautiful ceiling.
M.
Cheap & friendly. Handy for all the travellers heading to & from Glasgow Queen St & Buchanan Bus Station. Order off app from table & large outdoor seating area.
C. B.
It's rare that I rate a 'spoons so highly; but this branch deserves it. A lovely refurbishment of the building with many unique features intact and a well stocked, and more importantly, a well staffed bar.
B. C.
Another visit. Busy Friday. Staff under pressure
Pub great for food and drink deals
D. T.
Its a Spoons, the food is usually good for the price and drinks are inexpensive, the staff are helpful. They have wedged in as many tables as physically possible. Its a busy spot on a weekend once drinking starts.
M. R.
Yet another amazing Weatherspoons pub. An incredible building in the centre of Glasgow city which is spellbinding inside. As usual, great service, good choice of drinks and very reasonable prices. Also, as usual in a Spoons, very busy.
T. M.
The food here was really good. The staff were friendly and service was quick despite it being busy.
E. O.
What a venue. Stunning. Usual great Wetherspoons selection of beers and food.
J. W.
Just a brilliant place, but far too busy for me!
C. M.
Great meeting place but so busy
g. l.
Heavily staffed but still find it hard to get served due to being busy
K. B.
Wow! What a magnificent place. For a quick, reasonably priced bite to eat, or drink, I would recommend here. Not to mention the architecture of the building is breathtaking.
You can enjoy all of this in the outside seating area if you fancy, with a whole area of the newly pedestrianised George Square being dedicated to the restaurant.
All in all, it has everything you need to satisfy those gastronomic urges.
G. L.
Always very busy but you never have to wait long for drinks
P. S.
Fantastic interesting interior. Friendly staff
P. P.
Great service use the app drinks arrived really quickly even though it was very busy
G. T.
Great for real ale, if I one accepts the usual 'spoons range.
Traditional breakfast, shocking: how can one "cook" the components and have them taste three days old?
W. B.
Good food cheap drink need more staff
S. “.
Cheap, good food. But way to busy, sometimes basically sharing a small table with others. Not recommended for dinner for two or even alone, too cramped.
C. M.
Large eatery right on George Square. Very busy with seating outside too. Good range of food available at very low prices.
T. W.
Had a great day meeting friends from allover the world fantastic venue so central for all .
j. r.
Ok. Wouldn't buy food here. Cheap drink
G. R.
Very big outside seating area. You can always find something to drink or eat in good price
S. G.
Friendly staff loads of seating nice place decent real ale
J. F.
Great breakfast apart from not having black pudding on the plate
D. E.
Fantastic value for money, very clean and unbelievable lovely building
R.
Busy bar but servred quite quickly despite this. Food is decent and again you don't have to wait long for it to arrive.. only problem is the toilet is a fair distance to get to....so leave plenty time Lol
D. S. (. B.
This is a better quality Wetherspoons beautifully located on George Sq.
It is always busy but service is good. We had a wonderfully tasty traditional breakfast before embarking on the glasgow city bus tour
J. H. B.
Very busy and too noisy for me
Food was lovely though
R. D.
Great pub right on George Square and close to Queen Street station. Lovely breakfast. Good selection of beers. Visit the bottled beer alcove. How about that ceiling...
R. K.
Was for breakfast. Can't go wrong with weatherspoons food.
A. A.
Great Bar, Need more Staff.
C.
Food was good and excellent price. Good variety of drinks. Excellent loca.
G. T.
Great place to meet, have a few drinks. Food is great fantastic value for money. No music but still feels good with the chatter going on.
B. V. D. W.
I liked the building it made me realise that The Bank of Scotland who in 1867 commisioned and built the building made good profits through the centuries Well done imo
D. E.
Good pub, always busy. :)
S. C.
Weatherspoons get what you see on the tin.
This old bank makes a good setting
T. D.
Great atmosphere great place to be just really busy
a.
Great venue, decent food & reasonably priced drinks
W. S.
Large Grand building, a former bank. Plenty of space & seating. Great service and app order option. Only negative is no background music! Good for conversation!!
G. W.
Was very busy, but once we found a seat table service was spot on. Food was good. Staff were great.
M. C.
I didnt know that this pub/bar used to be a bank. It is a very nice place
L. J.
Crazy cheap drinks, great atmosphere, huge bar with short waiting times, and an insanely cool building for a weatherspoons to be housed in.
m. y.
Goodness this place is busy!! Managed to find a table after a few minutes. Love ordering via the app. Drinks arrived within 5 minutes and food shortly after. Very friendly helpful staff. Lost a star due to lack of loo roll....not surprising given how busy it was!
t. s.
Good place but always very busy.
R. D.
Amazing building , good service happy staff interaction.
O. B.
Not the best breakfast, bacon burnt
T. 4.
Great place, good service, get table next to a window, great view to a George square.
J. L.
Disappointed - The building is stunning and looks beautiful although the service we received was poor. We waited 20min for food and drinks and the food arrived before the drinks. The place was absolutely packed and I ended up having to go outside before I finished my food because it was so hot inside. I looked arround and was unable to see any air conditioning.
I won't be visiting this spoons again.
A. H.
Great prices.Central location and ideal for Queen Street station
M. S.
If your after a reasonable priced pint in Glasgow it's not a bad shout, just watch out for the regulars!
N. M.
Place was absolutely heaving when we were there but given the volume of customers staff were surprising friendly and efficient.didnt eat, only had drinks but from what I could see the staff were working their butts off and waiting time at the bar was really quick given the amount of people waiting to be served.toilets were also really busy but in good condition.well done Wetherspoons!!
P. M.
Pretty building inside its not child friendly also not many tables to sit at
A. M.
Beautiful inside no quarrels with the price of the breakfast bagel ang coffee either ...so all good
D. W.
Lovely pub in a great spot. Decently priced food and surprisingly quick service for such a tourist heavy spot.
R. S.
Like the outdoor seating at George Square weather permitting, lots of beer selection only downside is that inside it can get pretty crowded being a popular place bar staff bit overwhelmed. You're good if you can avoid the peak times!
J. F.
Stunning building , very helpful , polite and professional staff
J. W.
The door staff were really polite and efficient. However the drinks ordering service is not being managed as well as it could. As a table of 6, waiting an hour for the first drink wasn't a great customer experience.
S. R.
Interesting place with snack + beer dishes. My meal was not the best but the price was fair. Some wastes in our table from the previous customers were not cleaned.
P. H.
OK if you're upstairs on a beautiful day sitting outside.
D. D.
Amazing space! It was busy busy busy they had a tent outside with tables for smokers which was nice just it was v cold. Highly reccomend a visit if you're in the city.
C. F.
Great building, just popped in after sons graduation. Brill atmosphere
A. S.
A bit of a dump on a busy Saturday night, but extremely cheap Stella and large wines at least.
C. S.
It was a cold day in Glasgow. But sitting in the Counting House by the window. Cosy & warm having a delicious meal & drinks. Just people watching.
M. C.
It was my first time in it great experience well run I recommend it
J. M.
Great pub Great prices nice friendly people
J. D.
Love this place great atmosphere and drinks
J. J.
Wetherspoons its OK same as any other Wetherspoons to be fair
W. R.
In for a cooling shandy and was brought same drinks 5 mins apart, even though only ordered one. Checked my account and sure enough charged for 2 rounds. Went in to explain I'd been overcharged and you'd think, by the managers attitude, I'd offended every single one of his ancestors. Made me feel it was MY fault I'd been charged for drinks I hadn't ordered. After a couple awkward minutes he pressed the screen a few times and uttered "it'll be in your account in a COUPLE OF DAYS!!"
Now I like the counting house a lot and this won't stop me going back but a couple of days for their mistake??
Rant over
It's now 6 days since I was charged twice for same drink and the money STILL isn't in my account.
Come on Wetherspoon get yer finger out!!!
I. S.
Very popular restaurant/bar in an excellent central location on the corner of George Square.
I. C.
Great day & evening with family from Canada lovely meals friendly staff and reasonably priced
C. P.
Definitely a good place to visit great atmosphere very good food at great prices very friendly staff and great selection of beers available to ordered myself the haggis neeps and tatties and must say it was absolutely delicious
B. P.
Hard to be super enthusiastic about a spoons. However, when we arrived early on a Sunday and everything else was shut, it was reliably open for unlimited coffee and a vegan breakfast. Staff were well on the track and trace, so that was good I guess!
D. M.
Amazing range of alcohol. Amazing building 👷♂️
s. w.
For a busy Saturday, the drinks came rather quickly. Couldnt complain. Managed to be lucky enough to get a table almost straight away.
D. S.
Was great, went to another one along the road later and it was cheaper? Bit confused by that but yeah, good pubgrub
K. W.
Meant to be halfway through their 11 day real ale festival but none of them is working. The excuse at lunchtime was that the pipes were being cleaned. By mid afternoon one ale was working, the rest of them had either run out or were "coming soon".
The food was okay, on time and warm but no cheese for the burgers.
S. D.
Great bar to meet at, avoid the flat Guinness
i. b.
A lovely place very busy..with hard working staff all staff gave 100/% for every customer very helpful,..and even kept smiling ..well done to every single staff working..
C. J. L.
Right, it's typical and ordinary.
Average foods, typical pub selection of ales.
But you must stop here if you are in Glasgow. Just simply drink and talk.
A. K.
Massive bar with a lot of history and reasonably priced food and drinks 🍸 👌
J. C.
Nice pub good prices.
S. P.
Great atmosphere even with social distancing, absolutely beautiful building. Food was tasty, service was quick and hassle free. Had to wait maybe 5 mins to get in but staff were polite and efficient so didn't mind. Track and trace was easy to do and staff there to help if not sure what to do. Great afternoon.
M. D.
Fast & efficient service and a decent outdoor seating area
T. N.
The place was very bissy but friendly service when you could get it
P. J.
Always a delight to be here. Service could be better.
W. G.
Amazing atmosphere, selection and views
A must
A. G.
A nice and busy Weatherspoons with great beer garden options until the sun 8s on the wrong side in the later afternoon. Cheap drinks reasonable food and service.
L. s.
Good food, good atmosphere, Gr8 prices
L. J.
Great bar, lots of tables. Good apps.
C. F.
Huge pub..majestic ceiling, former bank ..usual wetherspoons
D. R.
Great pub, slow service though.Prefer Henglers Circus.
N. K.
Cheap but bland pints. But that’s what you’re coming for.
The interior was fab and classy.
Loud, crowded, yet has that wetherspoons’ charm that you always crave when going abroad.
r.
One of the best Wetherspoons I have visited. Situated in the old Bank of Scotland. Very big pub with a beautiful bar, good ale selection and very friendly prompt service.
t. m.
The head steward Chris was a very polite well mannered human being & he will go far in any career path he chooses. An asset to any company. Only complaint was that he wouldn't let me sit n have a pint with my wee shi tsu Tyson...pubs rules not his but put his point across very calmly. & politely.....pat yourself on the back son..from old al(the ex boxer). Respect.👍
T. B.
A beautiful building inside and outside. A typical " spoons " pub, pure bedlam or organised chaos, the staff were overwhelmed by the amount of customers and did their best to cope. The quality of the beer was very good but why do spoons put pump clips on pump handles for beers to come ? I had three attempts to get a beer and third time lucky got one that was on sale " Strathaven brewery " clydesdale a fabulous drop of ale, Avondale another fabulous beer well worth going out of your way to get some beer from this cracking brewery. One thing that had me hanging about the bar to pay for my drinks was that the bar staff had never seen a beer discount voucher issued by Wetherspoons themselves, even the bar supervisor had never seen them and I was questioned about it being genuine..... still a long way to go. Get more staff and pay them a living wage.
J. S.
I've been here many times. It's good place to relax and eat. I only rated 3 stars as we are still in a sort of lock down and this place was crammed packed so much so I could have put my arm out and take a chip off my fellow neighbouring customer. No space whatsoever that day.
G. M.
What a very grand old building, full of character and charm , usual wetherspoons fare, good selection of ales a very large wetherspoons
R. L.
Beautiful building with stunning architecture, it is a Wetherspoons, but its definitely one of the best. Food reasonable prices and well cooked.
R. W.
Very busy. Good range of drinks. Lacking in staff to clear tables and serve at the bar
S. M. (.
Cheap and Cheerful, just what you expect from a Weatherspoons pub
N. B.
Was a really long wait for both food and drinks - the food actually came before any drinks did. Understand that it's a large, city centre venue though and I can't really fault the staff, they must have been rushed off their feet.
A. B.
Great place . Decor and ceilings brilliant
d. p.
Plenty of variety in the drinks menu&, good food aswell, although I just wanted a small pizzA it was lovely like proper Italian style
J. L.
Beautiful building, amazing atmosphere and I totally loved there ordering app made getting drinks and food really easy and made you feel safe as no nead to wait in bizy queue, just stay seated happily at you table.
J. A.
Good food. Great price.
T. H.
Beautiful building, great service, excellent food, good value
a. M.
Impromptu afternoon drinks with my daughter.
We interacted with four members of staff who were all fab, approachable, friendly and chatty, Very accommodating and patient (helped us to move tables to get in/out of the afternoon sun 🌞)
Snacks were tasty , drinks were very reasonably priced
We had a lovely afternoon, thanks so much 🙏😊
M. K.
It is a good place for a quick drink. However can be a very busy place at Christmas. Good price and fast service though.
S.
Friendly, great atmosphere, busy pub, good food and a wide choice of alcoholic and non alcholic drinks
A. L.
Not good news today, disjointed service. Two people dining, one meal came then some 10 mins later the second meal arrived.
Still no drinks. First meal finished still no drinks. Eventually first drink arrives. 15mins later second drink finally arrives. Not the sort of service we are used to at a Wetherspoon location.
