Reviews of The Esquire House - JD Wetherspoon
P. D.
Really nice Wetherspoons pub. It's large , welcoming and friendly. The staff are very pleasant, and the food was really good. Great value, honest boozing! Always travel out to here, when in the centre of Glasgow.... It's that good!
R. W.
Been here many times when up there, always has nice local vibe and friendly, staff nice , food good and just across from the station! What more could you want !
K. C.
Staff where brilliant very friendly and helpful. Food was great also. Not sure if they have kids menu but if not would reccomend maybe doing one. As pizza was to much for wee one apart from that we had fantastic meal.
A. P.
Spacious bar restaurant so we got a table easily. Easy to order drinks and food at the bar. Service was quick and friendly. Food was good, chicken tikka masala was lovely. Good job.
D. S. (. B.
Its A.N other Wetherspoons. Wasn't best all day brunch. Bacon burnt to a crisp, toast burnt and food was none too hot either.I've been there on better days.
Staff are friendly and fine. I take an elderly disabled friend there, ocassionally, he likes the brunch but wasn't too happy yesterday.🥺
C. H.
Loved my visits twice now Sunday & Wednesday only moved to area march
Food great quick service & staff always willing to help out& very welcoming, will definitely be back
M. W.
Fast and friendly service. Convenient location.
A. G.
...always popular, whether indoors or out..easily accessible for all patrons although very limited onsite parking...local parking also scarce. Usual WSP fare and a favourite for all that passes by on Great Western Rd..
R. K.
Food was good and reasonably priced, parking was an issue now they've loads of picnic benches outside. Pain for drivers, win for summer drinkers!
p. b.
Enjoyed the porridge oats with blueberries and unlimited coffee for £3.15.
Located in a modern building unlike the majority of the others that I've been to.
Conveniently located close to Anniesland train station, roughly a two minute walk. Easy enough to get a train from Queen Street, Glasgow
A. P.
Been here a couple of times. Have had almost all their burgers so far and the Caledonian with the Haggis is my favourite so far. Great food, lots of choices for drinks and an enjoyable atmosphere. Recommended.
N. T.
Food great, fantastic pub you can take the family too, food amazing, go once a week now for pub crub
r.
Good. The brexit berk went back on his "no EU drinks" idea.
M. J.
A clean and spacious spoons with friendly staff. A bit brightly lit for a relaxing pub experience but not the end of the world.
c. w.
Staff in general very helpful. Alcohol at decent prices as well as food served late.
now has sky and BT sports.
APP is easy to use and normally quick service
H. A.
Nice large bar area, easy to get to with bus and train service so near by. Bar and food prices are excellent, there is car parking also for a limited number.
Ż. M.
Online menu was not updated as I couldn't order pizza online, but saw as other people bought it at the counter.
I. C.
Ordered the small chicken strips which should have 3 strips. Only 2 on plate. Too long to rectify
C. G.
The pub was quite pleasant. Good selection of items, breakfast served from opening till noon. Large adult drink selection. Wait staff was very nice.
R. M.
Nice atmosphere. Cheap drink what more can you ask for.
D. B.
Spacious, with a friendly atmosphere. Also does a pub quiz on a Monday night if that's your thing. What else can I say? It's a Spoons!
R. L.
Great value, plenty of space, thoroughly recommend an afternoon in side or outside.
S. L.
Went with my sister's for food and drink had a fab night will be going again in a few weeks the only thing was i asked for steak well done and when I cut it it was blood in the middle i think next visit I'll go for the chicken LOL but on the hole it was a great night not so often me and my sister's get together
I. T.
Usual Wetherspoons fare with a large variety of meals. Helpful staff.
E. G.
Standard wetherspoons, good size beer garden and large inside.
K. W.
I used to frequent THE ESQUIRE when I was 18 and l loved it then. I have been there on funeral meals though the year's and everything went well. I haven't been out for nearly 2 years and my cousin Julie and Lorraine invited me out. I had the best day out there I've had in years and I'm now 71 years old. The meal was amazing and a really cheap day. Everyone in the staff were excellent and very helpful. Nothing was to much bother for them. The lady behind the bar even asked me if I would like to use the toilet in the lounge for which I was very grateful. I have to use inhalers. When I came out of the toilet. 1 of the young ladies asked me if I needed a wee glass of water. Absolutely brilliant helpful and spotlessly clean staff. I will definitely be back again next week and I'm bringing my husband with me 🐦🛀Burd Baff PS my CUZ JULIE is in The Esquire House at least 4 times every week. She goes there on her own and she said that she feels Good about not feeling nervous as the Staff are very nice and friendly. Thanks TO EVERYONE WHO WORKS IN THE ESQUIRE I WOULD GIVE IT 100🌟🐦🛀

Great beer and food at great prices
D. D.
Lovely food. Relatively clean. Tables could do with wiping after each customer. Liked the coffee refill. Ideal.
M. M.
Took 3 attempts to get the right meals because someone else put the wrong table number into the app, apart from that was decent not a long wait for the food, food was quite good. All in all enjoyable.
M. M.
Good food great service staff friendly and helpful
A. M.
Wasn't anything special weird staff but it's a pub
a.
Great pub, good range or beers, very acceptable price
A. M.
Went for an early morning breakfast'. The place was spotless, staff friendly and the service was fast. The food was great had a lovely breakfast and time with my family

Had a lovely dinner with family in a great place. Food was great and good price as well
K. R.
Menu is quite poor they used to have a far better selection
A. L.
A very reasonably priced place for drinks and food, and like most places of this type,a seat at a table is require whether it be food or drink that you're after.
N.
Friendly staff good prices

Great pub, good range or beers, very acceptable price
R. 7.
Went for breakfast here for the first time in ages staff very welcoming and friendly track and trace in operation .the only reason I'm giving 4 stars and not 5 is my bacon was cold but apart from that everything else was fine

Standard Spoons pub. Beer prices good, staff efficient and busy bar. This one is my local and is fine. It looks in reasonable condition but I feel its starting to age a bit. Overall its fine and if you know Spoons then you know what you will get.
J. F.
This place is very big and has a great atmosphere in the evening - would definitely recommend coming with a friend for drinks. The food was alright, but definitely nothing to phone home over. They do have some vegan and vegetarian options, which is nice, but again they are pretty standard and just of average diner quality.
L. M.
Cheap and very cheerful ❤️🍾🍷
G. G.
Excellent pub. Spotlessly clean. Food service was not just fast but very well presented and tasted great. Drinks prices very reasonable and the staff couldn't do anymore to make you feel welcome. Especially Luke the manager, great host. 5 stars. Will definitely be back.
K. R.
Menu is quite poor they used to have a far better selection
D. M.
Had a lovely dinner with family in a great place. Food was great and good price as well
L. J.
Had great 👍breakfast but no mushrooms. Wish told them that I don't like baked beans 😕
G. W.
Have been going to the Esquire for years, great, quick service usually at the bar and especially bringing food. Nice staff.
Would be a top pub, if only it wasn't so cold inside. Why won’t they use heating? Even in the middle of winter?
T. Q.
Cheap drinks, food is good and never waiting too long to get served, staff is great
J. r.
Had a brilliant fry up here sitting outside on a lovely day my husband and i really enjoyed it good prices to and gr8 quality food!!!
A. D.
I haven't been out for a meal in ages and a bit apprehensive and frightened as I came down with covid in May but it was fine and meal was gr8 thank u staff at esquire lovely afternoon.
T. K.
Typical Wetherspoon's pub. Large and spacious. Great food at a great price. Good selection of beers and wines and fantastic selection of gins. Over 80 of them! Most I've ever seen! Will certainly return!
R. R.
Wonderful staff and very well managed, hygene excellent.Would invite family and friends any time.keep up the good work.
C. N.
Staff were all welcoming and friendly, we were not sat for long with an empty glass. Top service.
B. C.
Inexpensive. Friendly service. Mixed age groups so never any bother. Nice relaxing atmosphere. Had a lovely pitcher of gin fizz.!
S. M.
Pleasant staff and the usual reasonably priced selection of drinks and food make this a favourite for a night out.
K. C.
Great food cheap drinks friendly staff spotless toilets highly recommend a visit
D. M.
Love the fact that staff know me and have drink poured as I get to the bar. Still going 5 years after initial review. Re some of the negative comments, have seen the odd thing, but mainly new starts or technical problems which are normally dealt with quickly. Established staff tell elderly or infirm people to take a seat and often take food and drink to table and make sure they are safe going home.
J. G.
I got a Scottish breakfast, it came super fast. Hats off to you. Staff where great and the girl helped me go through installing the Wetherspoons App which is really good too.
J. G.
Great for watching football as they have multiple screens. Good choice of beer and food too all at reasonable prices. Also has parking and staff are friendly and helpful. Nothing not to like.
J. M.
Great value for money. Never had a bad meal here. The app is very good. Orders desserts for the kids on it and they were with us 5 minutes later
N. R.
Love the Esquire. I visit regularly at weekend during the day for coffee and bites to eat. Fast service. Can't comment on what's its like on the evenings though. Free refills on coffee are great.
A. G.
Night out at the Esquire great night, wile it was a great night, did notice one of the managers Ben was a total credit to the place as there was some elderly locals in the pub,the guy went out his way to help them from helping them order food to taking their drinks to the table, you really would have thought he had known the old guys for ages, total credit to you mate lovely to see this type of service and real care
S. B.
Good food friendly staff
J. M.
3 fine meals,& sweets, served up quickly, hot and tasty.7 out of 10.
j. c.
Main problem is poor ale choice. They run out regularly of guest ales and the selection to me is bizarre. Lots of high strength dark ales and hardly any moderate pale ales.
But staff good. Pub very tired and rats in carpark for two years now.
L. M.
Sunday 5th August 6pm the service first class food excellent but the tables are always dirty always need to ask staff to remove the dishes and tables always dirty and sticky. My husband and I have been coming here since we were 18 and now 51. We were sitting at the booths up at the back upstairs enjoying our meal next to us in the next booth were 2 young lads and a female they were quite drunk and the girls language was shocking to say the least she was warned by one of your mangers tall to keep it down but it did not make a difference there was families with young children in and a lady with a young child there her language was awful so that they moved I think they should have been put out I would have said something but my husband does not like complaining and was frightened in case they kicked off I think you should put notices up saying bad language will not be tolerated and anyone doing so will be removed our good night turned into a awful night had to put the complaint in. But get your staff to clean tables and remove glasses.yours faithfully Lesley McAulay.
K. D.
More suitable for drinking than food and customer service. Great price but always a really long wait to get served, tables are always messy and we have to move plates ourselves, some staff are friendly.
A. B. (.
Food good n very reasonably priced. Lovely crisp, clean beer. So handy to where I stay, what's not to like!!
B. F.
Nice, fairly typical Wetherspoon pub. Great, varied menu and good choice of drinks. Toilets are lovely but down two flights of stairs and through a few doors. There is an accessible toilet though.
M. M.
Great service good prices good night out.
J. M.
New staff still getting used to new routine on table service be pacent thy will get better food good
I. M.
I visit every week and love it
G. G.
Pretty standard Wetherspoons pub in a relatively new building. I would have given it five stars but for a fair number of uncleared tables at a time when it wasn't that busy.
Pub had a car park and free evening parking close by.
D. B.
Unusually average I got the smashed avocado with poached egg, I originally wanted it with smoked salmon, i predicted that there would be no smoked salmon and i was correct. Poached egg was solid bacon was cold and the avocado was verging on brown. Disappointing display today from the cant be bothered chef.
A. H.
Fantastic pub made welcome considering I'm from England lol.
i. c.
A very good breakfast, friendly staff and good service
M. F. B.
Esquire House Rocks! My husband, family and friends have been going here for years. Hubbie loves it as he's American raised and is needs to eat out a lot. Especially breakfast!
This is the equivalent of an American diner - great hot meals, breakfasts, friendly staff! If they allowed dogs would be even better and we could stay longer.
We love the Mexican days and everything is competitively priced.
Well done Wetherspoons Staff and Management!
F. F.
Typical Weterspoon. Good quality in a good price
J. D.
Almost my local. Cheap and tasty burgers and good selection of lunch wraps and sandwiches.
Good place to go for a pint on the way into Glasgow or on the way back
Seems the only spoons I can get the Scottie dog now (haggis hotdog) so there's another star.
A. L.
Lovely food and great value for money. Very quick service of food after ordering. Friendly staff and were quick to clear away empty plates and glasses
C. M.
Service a wee bit slow but as was busy so to expected
J. K.
Quiet drink at reasonable prices
T. G.
The staff were very helpful and the food was cooked nicely and didn't take to long
M.
Hard working staff, spacious bar/dining area, great prices, amazing choice of drinks. Has everything. Car park, food til late, drink til later, clean toilets, tvs with sport (no audio), gaming machines, outside seating/standing area, coffee machine, crisps and nuts.
V. M.
Lots of space, pleasant, informative staff, huge bathrooms. On the downside, not much atmosphere but given present circumstances, social distancing very feasible.
C. M.
Good but very busy Wetherspoons. No disabled toilets.
Eta a year later: There is a disabled toilet with the key available from the bar, or you can use your radar key if you have your own.
P. W.
Love this place. The staff are awesome so friendly & super quick compared to their sister pub The Counting House in city cnt. Glasgow(avoid). Always a friendly smile & warm welcome in thr Esquire alongside cheap drinks & food.
M. K.
Okay food for what you pay, very well priced.
Staff always helpful .
My kids enjoy going here for a family meal and I like the free coffee refills.
P. J.
Very nice food, good price, friendly staff
J. B.
Not a lot on menu a few they did not have but lovely staff
L. G.
As Weatherspoons go this is pretty standard. Bright and clean with plenty of seating. The usual selection of drinks and standard menu, however the drinks prices at least are a bit cheaper than city centre 'spoons which is a bonus. It's cheap and cheerful, no music as is the norm for this chain. It's got big tvs for the sport. It's close to Anniesland train station and right on great western road so easy to get to by train or bus.
I. G.
This is a regular pub I come to. I really like it as it usually has lots of real ales. I was however really disappointed today 2/3/19. For a pub that swears by real ales on a Saturday afternoon to have one different one on was shocking. All that was on was wooha blond. The only others were the regulars, abbot ale and deuchars ipa. Not very good for a camra recognised pub.
J. T.
Nicest pint of tenents at 2,89. Good food at great value.
s. m.
Back for the first time in years.
Ordering by phone worked efficiently
Lucky to get a table
D. M.
Went with my son.Staff very helpful if not enough for number of people who in.GET THE LOCK ON DISABLED TOILET SORTED YOU SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO OPEN WITH A COLLECTION OF KNIVES AT END OF BAR!!!! In all it was a reasonable experience but seriously could be improved for people.
D. R.
Great pub, really cheap, you can't spend your money in here, pints under £2, not many pubs do that. Would have got a 5 star rating only because of the long trek to the toilet 😂
N.
Friendly staff good prices
S. G.
Decent pub with food selection of grub. Dobt expect fine dining food. Surprisingly good selection of drink especially for Gin you're spoiled for choice.
j. m.
A great pub..great staff who work very hard..should have a tip box on bar to encourage public to donate as everyone uses cards now..only negative is too many under age kids..i know a dozen off the top of my head who are 14. 15..16 yrs of age..they go in with 2 who have age proof id..they just go find tables around back end and the valid id ones go up and down to bar buying the drinks..im tempted to phone cops on a fri/sat night to come in and crash the place..
R. D.
Excellent food. Quick service and helpful staff.
P. B.
Excellent 'Spoons. Loads of room, ales for less than £2 a pint. Food is consistently good quality pub grub. Shame they don't allow dogs, though.
M. H. (.
Standard wetherspoons experience with a large bar and lots of seating. Big menu of pub grub, all well cooked. Service is reasonably quick for such a busy bar.
D. L.
No hot chocolate available. Then desserts ordered and paid for did not arrive. They had run out and alternatives had to be chosen. Helpful waitress. Poor experience.
E. S.
Staff lovely. Good prices
L. D. M.
I went 2 the Esquire House restaurant at Anniesland (with my mum) on Saturday morning. I had the mushroom Benedict breakfast. That's 2 poached eggs with 2 giant mushrooms & 2 muffins with Hollandaise sauce & rocket. 🍳🍳🍄🍄🌱🍃🍴I Also had a cup of coffee.🍵 Then had a second coffee (after I finished my breakfast) at the coffee machine 4 a re-fill.🍵my mum had just the scrambled egg on toast with a coffee. My posh brekkie was lovely & gorgeous. ❤ Never thought i would like it. But I loved it. Scoffed the whole lot. Also it was a nice change of scenery, eating out the Esquire House. I don't usually go there because I don't live at Anniesland. I'm from Maryhill. Me & mum decided 2 have our breakfast at the Esquire 4 a change. We walked from Maryhill, up 2 the canal & 2 anniesland. We did the same on our way back home. Walked from Anniesland, canal & Maryhill. Doing a walking exercise. Food & hot drink was fab. I Would love come here again 4 a breakfast or meal in the future, later this year or so. 5 out of 5 stars, a big smile & big thumbs up from me. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐😆👍
C. C.
Wow! Staff on the ball with cleaning tables which isn't always the case! Really lovely staff, friendly and helpful. Prices are VERY keen! Will visit again when we're in Glasgow.
Y. M.
Lovely place with nice food but slow for food to arrive
A. P.
Came here for a gathering after a funeral and the staff were totally respectful! Covid measures are in place and were respected by staff and customers alike!
G. H.
The food and service was good!! The place can do with a deep clean!! Couple of tables were sticky and the carpet looks worn out!!
T. M.
Fast service great food and half the price of other places. Would recommend the breakfast and the fish and chips were good.
b. w.
Great staff just a shame they only had 1 real ale on tap, hey ho, post lockdown to blame again.
j. t.
First time I've been to this particular wheatherspoons bar and is the exact same as all other wheatherspoons for quality of the food, i had the mixed grill as i always do and it was exactly the same meal as The Last Post or The Sir John Stirling Maxwell both of which i go to regularly the standard of service and selection and price of the drinks was identical as well 👍
J. S.
Food was great, excellent social distancing measures in place, staff very helpful and friendly
t. k.
We stopped off for breakfast. The staff were excellent nothing was to much trouble and the breakfast was good and value for money. Thanks
J. M.
Visit weather spoons often and know what to expect. My husband's meal was great but my food was very mediocre and NOT HOT . . which I hate . Disappointed.
P. L.
Not too bad, good fast service with nice pub grub food. Walking in through the fug of smoke from people ignoring the No Smoking signs is rather off putting though.
A. S.
Wonderful place to dine! Food never disappoints and the staff are excellent.
N. P.
It's part of the Wethspoons chain of pubs. As such, you can expect the usual: cheap booze, cheap food and no music. However, they do show some live sports, which is not common in Wetherspoons.
The pub has a wide range of food options, and a similarly broad range of drinks. And they stock an increasing range of craft beers (especially Scottish-brewed beers)
D. B.
Great prices, good craft beers and ales. Large selection of different types of rums, vokdas and gins. Average food but you can't beat the prices. This Wetherspoons is cheaper than the ones in Glasgow city centre
L. B.
This is a really cheap pub for Glasgow's West end. Food is also good. If I'm honest, it's a big grubby and could do with a face lift, but other than that, it's brilliant.
r. w.
Good inexpensive food and a reasonable selection of wines and beers also well priced. The service was quick and friendly.
R. W.
Typical Witherspoon. Cheap alcohol and same menu as every other. Individual vegetarian/vegan menu was an interesting addition. Good service and reliably predictable!
A. M.
Nice food great price good choice of beers
N. G.
Food and drink is good. Too noisey and too busy. No staff telling the table to keep their voices down. A lot of swearing and loud voices being used.
L. P.
Nice pub with great prices on food and drinks. Ordering the wetherspoons app means you can order items on your phone and have them sent to the table
C. H.
Service good and nice experience. Food not as hot as I like it but so delicious. Value for money. Cecilia and George west enders
F. S.
Love this particular Wetherspoons. The staff are just the best and very attentive. The toilets are clean and we'll maintained.
J. D.
Visited this pub sat mainly outside friendly enough bar had a nice relaxing drink I have had food before on a previous visit it's good as well drinks are good price that's always a bonus🥂😃
M. D.
The Esquire house is a friendly pub just like any other wetherspoons & is child friendly and has a great food service & a good selection of beers, wines & ciders.
a. g.
It was easy and quickly .
Staff were lovely
Food was nice too..
C. G.
I was there for lunch with my granddaughter who enjoyed the experience. She loved her lunch but she enjoyed filling in the answers to the questions on her place mat.
A. K.
Excellent value for money & staff were very nice
M. M.
Excellent watering hole
Friendly staff
Service can be slow when busy especially if a lot of people are ordering food
Prices are keen as you expect
S. S.
Second week in a row I've went here food brilliant only thing this week they had no vinegar manager said it didn't come in the delivery now considering there's a Morrisons 5 minute walk away you would think they would send a member of staff over the road for 5 bottles nope so it was fish Friday with no vinegar let yourselfs down with that decision Managers
J. M.
Steak we ordered served up quickly, food delicious, waiting staff attentive, and knowledgeable. 7/10
J. J.
Food returned as special request was not served also luke warm. Usually no colplaints. Was busy and didnt seem to cope.
D. G.
Great prices, nice and relaxed atmosphere. Never enough staff to cope at busy times so prepare to wait. Then wait some more.
B. E.
This is my local... though I usually go there for some lunch and been doing that for a good five years now. The food is awesome, especially the chips ;)
G. F.
This place is a typical Wetherspoons: reasonable food and a good range of drinks all at good prices; unfortunately it seems a bit grubby and the service is slow.
K. B.
Been in it twice it nicely decorated good food menus and drink is reasible price and has big plasma televisions the staff frinedly
D. l.
It's a really nice place too go, staff are all very nice and helpful. Food is very nice. Prices are good too not too expensive.
r.
Place is clean staff are courteous and extremely friendly my only complaint is every time I come here they don't have the breakfast. I want. I.e. fresh fruit and Greek yoghurt with honey
I. S.
Well worth a visit.
C. C.
Very clean and friendly staff
R. M.
Always busy but a good friendly atmosphere and a wide selection of alcohols to choose from at great prices.
G. M.
Typical great weather spoons food, drink and service with even better prices! Awesome place. Highly recommend.
T. V. G.
If you are i Glasgow and you're thinking; I want food that soothes my palate and gives me the best start, middle or ending to my day. Then think nor look no more, this is the place for you. As it was for me.
E. M.
Had a great afternoon. Drinks n lunch. Food was lovely. Been year since I was last in.
g. m.
Typical of all Witherspoon's, cheap and cheerful, basic food well served and prepared. Don't allow dogs hence the three 🌟
s. p.
Bit too big a pub for me. I like smaller pubs that I think are cosy. Good for a quick drink after hair cut and shopping. X
j. b.
Big barn of a pub with no atmosphere but staff are really friendly & helpful, although often rushed of their feet meaning you can wait a while to get served, but when you do there's a great variety & the drink is cheap.
J. M.
Decent JD Wetherspoon with great prices
L. W.
Great breakfast staff really friendly and helpful. Free parking and plenty of seats.
A. M.
Enjoy the breakfast, staff are all pleaent and helpful
J. H.
Decent food, nice atmosphere, good selection of booze. Needs music though
R. G.
A very nice pub, food was lovely and really nice staff. Will certainly visit again.
M. D.
Very good staff can't fault anything about it overall top notch food nice and relaxed
L. J.
It gets busy and noisy from late morning which wasn't an ideal place for me to study. Breakfast was ok and free refills on tea and coffee was good.
n. d.
