K. B.Beautiful place with top notch service! I highly recommend! The dishes are delicious, the Balmoral Chicken is very well done as well as the Sticky Toffee Pudding! The waitress was very charming, thank you again for this very pleasant moment!

A. B.Went there on a Sunday afternoon, and boy wasn't it crowded. Went there on a game day and that's a place to watch out for if you have any Celtic football games to watch while you eat and/or drink. I tried the footlong sub and coke, which was good - nothing fancy and downgraded about it. But I heard the burgers there are really good. Some of my friends tried it and they said it was amazing. Affordable, cozy and a great place to be.
So next time, if you have a game day, you know where to go.
s. c.Staff where incredibly fine, love the way she gazzed into my eyes whilst a was eating her pie, (the Pitit barmade ) and as a took a drink of my fresh orange a know she was just the one for me. But my pal would not ask her to nip me a full timer so a will be over next week to sweep her off her feet... any knock backs then a will be slide tackling her..if your reading this baby a want to nip u a permy 😆😆😆

It was late afternoon so fairly quiet which suited us on this particular day. Can get busy but staff are still then very attentive.

R. J.Enjoyed the beer garden and selection of drinks! Could do with a beer menu. Great range of vegetarian food and gluten free. However we ordered the veggie fajita burger (very tasty) and veggie pizza pie (nothing like a pizza, just a flat pie without a lid...) And they were both really small portions with not many chips either. We had to get a snack on the way home!

M.Lovely little bar/pub to go to if you want to get away from the busy city streets, the food isn't all too expensive and the service is friendly and quick.
I am a regular for good at this location because there is always something new to try with new menus and specials regularly changing.
If you are a football fan they also regularly showcase the biggest matches of the day on 4 big screens dotted around the place.

C. B.Called in on a rainy afternoon for a drink and ended up getting a stack of nachos to snack on between us. Prices were fair and the plate of nachos was decent. Looked like a student bar but seemed to be a mix of young folk, couples and a few old fellas propping up the bar. A bit out of town and so out of the way but if you're over that side (we'd been yo the necropolis) it's worth calling in at.

T.Great pub have been a regular for years but recently have been contemplating taking my money elsewhere as the attitude of 2 or 3 memebers of staff has been appaling and make me feel very unwelcome. Me and the wife are huge fans of the pub and the MAJORITY of staff but two or three are runing this great pub for me.
J. m.We had our Chrismas night out at The Howgate last night which is the third year in a row. There is a good reason we return. Good, hot food brought to the table timously and with a smile. Chloe, our waitress was fabulous and attended to our every need. Well done and thank you.

The outdoor beer garden is lovely for the sunshine day if you can find. My favourite menu are the 30 pcs BBQ chicken wings, narchos and tower of onion rings. They also have a nice live music after dinner. Get the student card for the selected discounted drinks.

Edited: Adding a star on the original review because I like that they responded to my original one. I wanted to explain better what I think about the food, because I didn't explain myself at all. I've been there 3 times recently and they never had the full menu, and they explained why (issues with suppliers, which is pretty common at the moment). The prices are very good, that is true. Most of the menus include a free drink. You can easily eat and drink with less than 10£. But I think that they could do better with the portions and the quality of the food. The burgers, the chips and the fish are on the small side, and nothing special. There are pubs in city center which offer a much better quality at a just slightly higher price. Anyway, the place is nice, staff is helpful, they show sports on tv and even kindly agreed to change to the match I would have liked on the tv next to me. They have a room for playing games and a beer garden, which wasn't open for the weather but I think it's a great thing.
Overall I would recommend the place, but think they can improve and get the 5th star.

C.I really struggle to fault this place, all the times I've been here I've never had a single complaint or issue.
The mobile app is a really convenient way of ordering food from the table, although it doesn't seem to update when a particular meal is sold out, a couple of times I've had to reselect a meal when the staff have come over and let me know they've sold out (usually sold out of chicken breast as this place is really popular)
Staff are attentive and friendly. The live music nights on a Friday evening are usually worth a visit.
I really like this place and have made it my regular local when I am in the city. I'm working my way through their menu, trying out every meal. So far, the Balmoral Chicken is my favourite!
Although - Team Howgait - is it possible to have the Purple Rain cocktail added back to the menu? This was the best one! I also enjoy the weekday half price cocktail prices, very good value for money.

M.Was in last night could only get a seat in wee lounge bit that was fine. lovely food and as a nhs employee great you get a wee discount on alcohol only complaint is the bar staff will not serve you in lounge u need to go outside then into bar to be served then go outside and back into lounge with your drink. Feel this is a poor situation that needs addressed considering ther was 3 to 4 bar staff hopefully this is addressed and look forward to visiting again

The staff were all so accommodating and moved us inside. We felt so safe during our visit as they had lots of covid related measures in place, whilst still having a fun atmosphere.
