Reviews of The Old Mill
L. L.
Such a nice restaurant with authentic Scottish food. The waiters are super nice and the atmosphere very cozy. We had a lovely lunch :)
A. P.
Wow, a real gem. The food was delicious and fresh, especially the pork. We were seated in the yurt and with the log burner and the rain on the roof it was super cosy. The bar looks lovely too, I could imagine it having a great atmosphere in busier times! Will definitely be back to visit again.
M. C.
What a great place and can’t believe we found out on our last night! With a last minute call they accommodated 11 people and a young puppy 🐶. All I can say about the food is WOW! Everything perfect, nothing too much trouble and our young puppy welcomed with open arms! A true “dog friendly” pub!
S.
We had a great meal in the garden under the big tent. We ordered the ribs and the surf and turf. Both were delicious.
S. F.
Would highly recommend, lovely welcoming atmosphere, staff are lovely, food was outstanding, well priced can't wait to get back
C. C.
Absolutely stunning pub, food was so good we booked a table for the following night. Staff are very attentive and friendly, not rushed at all. Can personally recommend the duck dish and the sirloin steak. Best to book in advance.
S. N.
Excellent food. Reasonably priced main courses. I've never tasted better battered fish n chips. A little bit pokey but that's unavoidable with an old pub. Friendly service
N. B.
Second visit here as the first was so good. This is a good 2.5 hour drive from home. A rare find. Great food, helpful and friendly staff. Amazing atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.
S. H.
Cozy warm an awesome place to stops and get out the winter cold get a bite to eat and a warm drink and or a tote of rum.
R. M.
Picked out the pub at random on Google maps. Rocked up to a friendly face who was very accomodating. The food was rediculiously good and I am sat thinking why have I not found this place before and why isn't this place spread like wildfire !? Food was on point, of high quality and extremely tasty. The gardens were lovely to sit out in if your lucky enough to come on a good day. Will deffo be back again.
A. C.
Outstanding every time. Really good quality food and drink and great service. Not cheap but you get what you pay for.
L. N.
Very lovely. Friendly staff. Food was good. Great outdoor space. Would definitely visit again
C. M.
This is not your usual pub fare - this is a special place that serves some of the tastiest fare to be had anywhere in Scotland. The staff are attentive, the atmosphere cosy, the drinks ranging from the common to the novel and interesting. There’s even a real fireplace to boot!
C. B.
Just happened upon this place on the way back from Scottish holiday back to Cumbria. We were lucky to get a table. I had the duck which was so tender and tasty. My partner had the surf and turf which he really enjoyed. I had trifle to finish the meal, it was perfect, plenty and fruit and not too sweet. Will definitely aim to visit again. The staff were awesome, not pushy but attentive. They all seem happy in their job.
P. B.
Wonderful food, friendly and accommodating staff! 10/10
B. L.
Stopped on the off chance a table was available. Excellent service and food was great. The roaring log fire offset the howling wind and rain outside. Will definitely return.
S. A. S.
Great food. Great staff. Definitely a place to go for food. Will be back
N. L.
Excellent food and very good service, In a beautiful village and off the tourist trail.
A. J.
Amazing food, fantastic service, cosy atmosphere. Will definitely be back. The sauce with the salt baked cod is out of this world.
D. C.
Fish and chips was good. Tartar sauce tasted really nice. Wife enjoyed her smoked salmon and crab sandwich.
N. I.
The staff were friendly and welcoming and the service was fast. My partner ordered rack of ribs and they were lovely. We had oysters to start and they were phenomenal. The only negative I could give would be that I ordered surf and turf and they were out of scallops which was cool as I got an extra languistine however the steak was literally all fat. There was a tiny bit of actual steak meat on one of the slices of which was lovely however there was just far too much fat I'd say like 70% of the fillet was fat.
J. W.
Great food and lovely beer garden for a sunny afternoon.
D. C.
Lovely place and staff, fantastic food.
S. A.
Fantastic food in a lovely local pub, great garden seating too.
L. D.
We don't live in the area, we were on holiday and read the great reviews, so we went and had a meal. I wanted different batter on my fish and the staff went out of their way to make this for me. The food was fantastic and the staff were so friendly and couldn't do enough for us. It has such a friendly atmosphere and it was lovely to see dogs in there. Absolutely loved it.
A. J.
The food was amazing, even the kids food was great quality.
Was there on steak night (Thursday nights) 6oz steak and a drink for £20! Steaks are great quality.
C. R.
A little bit further from our campsite at Loch Lomond than we intended to go for a meal, but it was harder than anticipated to find a dog friendly place, but thankfully The Old Mill are such a place.
Very nice building and layout, welcoming staff. The food was great, so all positives. Would recommend to anyone to go visit and have a meal here.
S. M.
The Old Mill was great. Roaring fire, dog friendly, lovely staff and very tasty food. I recommend it
k. c.
Great setting and lovely food. Would definitely go back.
M. M.
I thought the food was overpriced l paid
£7.50 for a sandwich and was given the wrong one, the girl changed it but it wasn't very tasty...the soup was too creamy and again very pricey 😭
S. C.
My partner and I went here looking for some pub food but were blown away by the quality of the food and service. The place is elegantly decorated and the patrons were noticeably dressed up. There was a wide range of food and drinks on the menu, including vegetarian and vegan options. My favourites from my order were the ox tail and cheek fritters, with the oysters as a close second. My partner, however, was raving about the ribs! The bill was extremely reasonable for the feast we had just had. We will definitely be returning to try more of the menu.
a. s.
Nice wee pub cosy atmosphere and open fire. Was bit crowded due to being so small in bar area. Eating area next door but we just had drinks. Outdoor seating at side near car parking area for warmer weather.
S. T.
Brilliant food and amazing service for our meal yesterday. I can't speak higher of the staff there as they were absolutely fantastic. We had 4 roasts which were brilliant and were sat inside the teepee which was a lovely setting. We will be back and will be bringing people!
l. f.
lovely food, warm atmosphere friendly efficient staff
K. S.
The food was great and quick :)
M. W.
Great beer garden, Fallen beers on keg in the sun. Best beer garden in the area.
S. S.
We were recommended the Old Mill by a local whilst walking in QE park.
Couldn’t have been better.
All the staff were absolutely delightful, attentive and welcoming.
The food was delicious and portions were great.
Definitely recommend and wish we lived closer so we could visit again soon.
J. R.
Good food and cosy atmosphere, highly recommended
K. K.
Good food. Great atmosfere
M. S.
Enjoyed a relaxed, leisurely Birthday lunch here - we were a party of eight. All needs catered for 👍 Good food, excellent friendly service. We all enjoyed - thank you! We look forward to coming again.
J. M.
A hidden gem, the food is absolutely stunning Will definitely be back
5 stars is not enough ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
A. V.
Consistently delicious. Fabulously friendly staff. Dogs welcome!
j.
Lovely village gastro pub. Food and staff were excellent, albeit expensive.
L.
With the covid pandemic sadly we hadn't been able to enjoy our usual meals at the old mill. But we have however been able to enjoy amazing take away and cook at home options available. On the weekend they also have a lovely option to get rolls and baked goods and amazing coffees. I would defiantly recommend it so you can have a well deserved night off cooking but still having beautifully home cooked style meal.
M. F.
Mostly, this is excellent food. We had Cullen Skink and Cod casserole - perfect and 5* for that.
I'm not sure the Chef understands Vegan cooking. The apple crumble was bland and the 'crumble' part of it was much like a dust. I think this is what happens when you simply take out the butter from a crumble recipe. Shame as there are so many vegan crumble recipes - e.g. replace butter with rapeseed oil and use oats.
We enjoyed our meal and recommend it to fish eaters, but from what we've tasted of the Vegetarian/Vegan options we don't recommend the Old Mill to Vegetarians and Vegans.
R. F.
Best ever village pub for vegans.
After the recent renovations to the outdoor seating (absolutely amazing!) myself and my family booked into the mill for dinner to check it out... I was gasping for a pint of Guinness.
Myself and one other in the party are vegan, and we were absolutely blown away by the options available. We had a vegan starter board to share (butterbean pesto was class), a tofu fish and chips and a butternut and kale Wellington. All of which were lovey! We’ll need to come back and try the burgers.
The Old Mill doesn’t just offer up a vegan option, it’s properly embraced the vegan community and made an effort to really service them. If you’re looking for a classic village pub, in a cute location, that’s sure to make everyone happy, look no further!
Ps. They even had vegan options on the kids menu, such a sweet touch, so they get bonus points for that too
K. M.
Consistently fabulous, we always have a great time here.
E. S.
A lovely friendly pub with excellent food
R. S.
Beautiful beer garden. They serve an incredible honey glazed duck (very generous portions) and quality chips. Very friendly staff.
M. R.
Delicious vegan sharing board. Friendly, humorous staff. Log fire on a chilly day. A real treat, as lockdown eases. (Their large outside eating area is also superb).
a. w.
Friendly and patient service.
Good food.
S. N.
We were a film crew of 19 people travelling across Scotland with a celebrity cast filming a fish show for TV. The Old Mill were incredibly accommodating at the last minute when our previous location fell away. Alice and her staff were warm, friendly and overall amazing people. The food was excellent and and all 19 meals came out hot, on time and tasting lovely. Would recommend highly and if we are ever in Scotland again we'll be stopping by for for sure.... THANK YOU!!!!!!!!
S. W.
A lovely covid-secure outdoor space behind the pub. Had a good evening meal (mussels as a starter and a chocolate mousse for dessert particularly good). Efficient and friendly service.
M. G.
Fantastic pub, beautiful setting, fantastic menu (incl vegan friendly options), and great pricing for such quality food.
P. W.
A lovely evening with my family. Very friendly and delicious meal. The "happy birthday chocs on a plate" was a lovely touch. Thank you
C. M.
Great food good price nice surrounding
T. F.
Delightful little place. They welcomed the dog, the staff were very friendly, the food was delicious, and the patrons were chatty. The guest beer from Fallen Brewery went down very well indeed. But the dumplings were the most dense I've ever experienced. Properly neutron star dense. I'm surprised we escaped the gravitational field, sprinting to an incredible velocity to get through the door. I'd definitely go back.
R. s.
By far our favourite pub in the Stirling area. Food is incredible and they have a great selection of beers on tap (Local Fallen Brewing stuff is fantastic)Pub has a great ambiance and the garden and yurt are a nice touch too. Well worth the 30 minute drive out of town!
F. M.
I have been going to the Old Mill often for about a year since moving to Killearn. I can honestly say that the food is absolutely superb. I usually always get the sirloin steak (which is more like a fillet , I would say) and it’s mouthwatering delicious. Have also had the burger, which is very tasty too. Have had cosy nights and also family gatherings here and enjoy it immensely, every time I go. The staff are also so helpful, friendly and welcoming. Thanks so much Old Mill, will recommend you to anyone (and do, often).
D. T.
Food was good, Staff was superb, mint ice cream was real mint 👍
S. H.
Superb food right through, starters mains and pudding. Could not fault the food, service or the place it was top class. We stayed in Balmaha and it was worth the 20 minute drive. The village itself was nice and the food was the best I have had in a long time.
L. M.
Went for a meal which was utterly delicious. Our party had the vegetarian platter to start followed by steak, roast cod, miso tofu stew and the vegetarian Wellington (4 of us). Not a scrap left. The staff were very friendly too. Highly recommended.
J. H.
I can't vouch for inside as we never entered but they've done an excellent job with the outside area. Really good service and dog friendly. Couldn't ask for more.
A. S.
Really good food and great service. No more needed really. A well rounded local providing very good food at decent prices and through lockdown! Takeaway ribs are dangerously tasty!
R. M.
After a long walk from Blanefield we had a wonderful carry out coffee and the most delicious home made scones with jam and cream. Would highly recommend.
A. M.
I haven't been for a few years and now I'm left thinking not?? A November lunchtime treat and more. Relaxing atmosphere with quite a few people in just having a drink in the bar and best of all an open fire! 😀 Food excellent and very reasonably priced. Service was just great. Highly recommended and I'll certainly be back in the near future.
K. P.
We were in town for one night and ended up here for dinner! The food was so fresh and creatively dishes. We had two of the boards, scallops and muscles. I’d suggest this place to anyone nearby. Amazing home cooked food and great homey decor.
J. I. (.
Located near the Glengoin distillery, the food tastes really great.
M. M.
Great food, good choice of drinks, excellent hospitality and superb atmosphere. We dined here after reserving a table for the Saturday evening 30/04. We got seating in the yurt 'extension' and a vegetarian sharing starter that astonished us. 1st class! ...though I think any of the starters would, do the same. We had the lamb shank and 'pig' for mains. Elegantly delivered on slate and wooden boards. Flavoursome, fabulous food. An absolute treat.
All within a short drive of Glasgow
Go there...you'll love it
j. M.
I like this place, I go on my old motorcycles for a very nice flat white and home made cake & Ice cream. It has a big log fire and a quiet beer garden. They have a posh restaurant for food at night, best to book it's usually busy when I was in for a meal they were turning unbooked people away.
V. M.
Lovely meal when visiting friends. Great atmosphere with a warm welcome. Recommend the surf n turf.
M. S.
good food and good staff, was a great experience. highly recommend to sop by here whenever u are driving nearby.
D. D.
I liked this place which is dog friendly (keep pooch on lead) and in a lively and lovely village. The beer is good and it showed the rugby. Hurrah. The food offering is a little on the expensive side but had the soup which was very filling and freshly, wholesomely made and very yummy. Recommended
C. C.
Stumbled across this on the way back from the Devil's Pulpit and it was a nice find. Nice ambience, tasty food, friendly staff. One minor negative - what has happened to the garden at the back? Would have been nice to see a well kept herb and veg garden but looks like it has been abandoned.
S. H.
Attended The Old Mill on Sunday 12th Jan 2020 with my husband and members of R1 Porsche Scotland.
My husband booked with Alice and from start to finish received excellent service.
Our group was quite large just over 30 people we were sat at the back of the restaurant in a separate area looked liked a wigwam it was laid out nicely for our group.
We had pre ordered our food.
The food was served quickly, the staff were attentive and welcoming and friendly, the food was simply delicious.
Prices were reasonable.
We will definitely return and recommend to all our family and friends.

We had a lovely dinner here with our dog. The atmosphere was great, the food was amazing (the dry age beef burger blew us away) and the fireplace warm. Just great!
D. S.
So lucky to have this great place in the village. Warm welcome, great staff, food and gin 😉 keep up the good work x
A. L.
Loved the atmosphere in this cosy pub. Traditional decor and rustic stone interior with fire. We ate dinner in the bar (thanks for being dog friendly!) and enjoyed lamb shank and sticky toffee pudding especially! Lovely evening and true Scottish welcome. The light at dusk coming in through the window over the pretty church building opposite (now the village hall) was delightful.
D. M.
Just moved to this village and what a great find. The food is excellent, friendly staff and clientele. The owner and staff quickly make you feel very welcome even when it was really busy. We’ll be back.
A. J.
The charcuterie tasting plate + the lamb dish made the most delicious meal I’ve had during my stay in Scotland. Compliments to the chef and to the rest of the staff!
D. T.
Visited this pub a couple of months ago based on a recommendation and we had one of the best pub meals! Decor was rustic and staff were lovely. Had a great selection of modern style pub food, generous portion and extremely delicious. Would recommend anyone passing by to give this a go!
C. M.
Nice cosy atmosphere for a winter meal. Menu recently expanded with some great pub classics alongside signature dishes. Burgers look and taste amazing. Staff great and good drinks selection, especially gin.

R. S.
A great local pub with a good selection of drinks and food.
D. B.
Nipped in here on a quiet Saturday afternoon with some friends and had a delicious lunch. Portions are huge, especially the burgers. Open fire was lit and made the place nice and cosy. Staff were friendly and very attentive. Cask ales also available. Would definitely be coming back.
M. D.
Food was really good, toilets were not the cleanest but certaint didnt detract from our meal
J. V.
Stopped by for a lunch. The food was excellent and the goat cheese burger the best burger I’ve had in Scotland. Everyone else in our group also really enjoyed their meal.
J. S.
Nice meal with a solid wine list. Good, polite service.
F. B.
Great place. We ate good food, even a little too much! We recommend you start with the sharing board, you will taste a little of everything, from cheese to salmon. 5 stars well deserved.
B. M.
The Pub was excellent. Clean, open fire blazing away,Scottish theme , quite intimate , and cosy .As regards the Restaurant they still have work to do .
It is dull, unattractive, cold , and bleak .
Food is nothing special and just below average-avoid . The adjacent Pub is great for a drink .The lighting is particularly effective at creating the mood .
W. O.
Lovely food, good service. One of the best burgers ever.
d. r.
Took us ages to get there, road diversions, but well worth the journey. Great, friendly staff and food was delicious. Definitely be back.
J. W.
Lovely lunch, lovely atmosphere sitting outside in the glorious sunshine...we will visit again

Lovely lunch and great atmosphere
J. M.
A warm atmosphere very welcoming, food was tasty but £11 for a burger and chips served on a piece of wood is a bit much, the rest of the menu is pricey too
M. B.

(Translated) A very cozy restaurant where the locals like to eat. We had a fish board and scallops as an appetizer. As a main course the spare ribs and a quiche. Tasty, but not 'wow'! Just good pub food. The staff is very knowledgeable and very friendly! Even so kind that we were allowed to spend the night with the camper in the parking lot. Opposite the restaurant is a small supermarket with all kinds of delicacies. We felt very welcome at this place and will definitely come back if we pass this nice village.

(Translated) On the way to Fort William this roadside restaurant caught my eye and I decided to stop, good luck to me.
A typical place in the area, outside the scope of city tourism, I found a rural restaurant with a fireplace and wooden decorations from many years ago.
They have a varied menu and the quality / price is great. They usually have varied dishes of the day and a lot of variety of meat.
The vegetable soup was exquisite, it seems that it had just been made and the jam and cheese sandwich was also delicious, the products were fresh.
There is no place to park since it is right on the road, but it is not difficult since there is a gap right in front.
I am sure that if I go back to Scotland I have to go through that road to visit this place again!
