Reviews of The Old Elm Inn
J. B.
Wow. We was traveling back to Wigan from Cornwall and needed a stop. This place was great. Free parking, beautiful food and relaxing.
S. M.
An absolutely brilliant relaxed atmosphere with CAMRA ales and good quality pub food, vast inside and outside seating. The Old Elm Inn represents the best of British in terms of a family and dog friendly local pub.
The landlord is welcoming and friendly and the staff are attentive showing it is not only a great place to eat and drink but also a good employer.
I had the Burger and Chunky chips tonight and thoroughly enjoyed. I am not local but I will be back. Keep up the good work everyone. 😀
R. G.
This is a great spot. Great food and service. Nice ambiance.
T. B.
A very good Sunday lunch. The portions were more than ample and well cooked. Waiting staff quick and efficient without being over bearing. Although very busy we were not rushed and could relax and enjoy our meal. Highly recommended.
K. M.
A great find, just 10 minutes off the M5. Fab welcoming staff, delicious home cooked meals, huge portions. The steak pie is wonderful and the Sunday roasts are the best I've had. Definitely worth a visit.
J. W.
Had a light lunch. Very nice food and large portions. Very nice cosy place with plenty for kids and adults to do while waiting for food. Staff very friendly. Would highly recommend
D. J.
Fabulous surroundings, great for children, a lovely park outside and fun games and books inside, for adults too! Excellent food, service with a smile and great value for money xxx Thanks for a fantastic time today x
O. K.
Fantastic Sunday roast. Can recommend the mixed one. Will come back

Went for a meal out for my husbands birthday. Had a nice meal, only let down was my husband ordered gammon ham, with egg and chips, the meat was cold, as it said gammon, expected it to be hot, they did heat it up, but just be warned its cold not hot.
J. R.
Very friendly environment with great atmosphere; however if you don't want to be dissapointed ensure you book 😊
Update: recently hired a room for a family birthday party, great service and buffet; the staff were attentive and couldn't do enough for us.
Would highly recommend the Old Elm; the staff are a credit to the landlord 😊

First visit here with family as we've been told the menu had a good selection of veggie meals and indeed it does. A great venue with friendly and chatty staff and a place where the owners have clearly made an effort to keep the customers entertained and spoiled for choice.
Well presented and comfortable venue which has two distinct areas: the calm quiet area for the people looking for a relaxed meal or pint and a chat and the louder area for the groups and customers looking for a more lively atmosphere. The latter is where our group were positioned. The area had a smaller screen showing the football plus there was a second, larger screen further round the bar, better for the sports fans there to see the game. There seemed to be events or special activities planned every night of the week (picture included). There was a play area for kids and little table top toys for very little ones to keep them entertained for 5 minutes. There was a corner piled up with board games too but it was a pity the previous clientele had lost pieces or vandalized the contents with rude drawings ☹.
Great selection of ales on offer which was a real plus for me. In addition, CAMRA members get 10% off their beers. Menu was good with a nice choice of meals including kids choices. The food was lovely and good value so felt very satisfied.
I think next time we may sit in the quieter area with the kids at that time of day (6pm Saturday), as some of the language of the lads present wasn't very nice unfortunately.
But other than that we had a lovely meal and a couple of drinks.
Quiz nights, live music nights, etc. The locals always have something to go to which is great. Will likely be visiting again when in the area again.

Lovely friendly place therewere12 in our party we met for my wife's birthday we came from Devon 4 from Cardiff 4 from near Camand 2 from Peterborough the food was lovely as were the staff and as you reviews said great place especially if you have children thankyou
D. R.
Friendly staff nice beer. Didnt eat here but the menu looked good and resonable prices
C. T.
Wonderful pub, great food at really reasonable prices. Definitely needs to be a regular spot
D. P.
Had a recommendation for food quality and have been a few times now. 5 stars from me for food and value. Really nice traditional fare
R. P.
Came here with friends and our little ones in prams for lunch. We booked ahead so we had a separate section just for us which was nice. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The food was great!
R. H.
Good beers, great steak pie, not overly expensive but let down by the chips which were dark brown and limp. I'm sure if I had had the potatoes I would have given 5 stars.
W. 6.
Truly amazing experience, the staff are friendly, welcoming and very attentive, nothing is too much trouble, the food,,,, where do I start, Sunday Roast as I mentioned to the owner was perfect, four meat roast, lamb, beef, Chicken and pork was cooked to perfection as was the vegetables, my Daughter had the children's version which was more than ample for an 8 year old, I then had dessert, not that I had much room left, salted Caramel cheesecake, OMG that topped off a really nice Father's day at the Old Elm Inn, and the dessert was free to Daddies as it was Father's Day, can't wait to go back, nothing but A1 to all the staff
M. H.
Good service and staff. The battered cod I had was huge and takes great. The chu ky chios however, oh my word no. They biblically awful. No crunch at all, they were soggy abominations that had been lightly poached in oil. Shame.
B. G.
Great staff, fantastic food. Had a mixed roast but for the price the food was out of this world. More than happy to alter the table to outside as a lovely day and my mother tried the jacket potato with spaghetti bolognese which she really enjoyed. No room for puddings unfortunately. But a wonderful experience and will difinatly go again to try there legendary 18 oz t bone steak.
A. S.
Lively pub with good food and service. Food portions are huge and staff really friendly and chatty
s. r.
We visited a couple of Sunday's ago, with a friend, we were told all tables booked. They kindly offered us outside dining, it was a nice day, we took up their offer.
We were served quickly, our order and drinks followed.
The staff were attentive, polite and patient.
I cannot fault this wonderful pub eatery. The food was first class, and a full plate too. It reasonably priced so good value for money. We enjoyed it so much we're eating there again this very evening. Thanks to all the staff for a GREAT luncheon. We'll be back again and again. This time we booked as it is popular.
M. N.
Lovely and welcoming family pub.
We called Matt at short notice with a request to organise a gathering for 25 for after a funeral.
He, and the team at The Old Elm, provided a great spread in a lovely big and well furnished room with no fuss at all. It was perfect.
The food was great! Hardly any left over, which speaks for itself. Lots of tea and coffee too.
The bar is really well stocked and the pub has a very warm and friendly feel.
Thanks again, Matt.

This was our second time staying at the Old Elm Inn. The rooms are comfortable and the food is amazing. Owner and staff are friendly and polite and nothing is a bother to them. I requested an early arrival and access to the room as we were coming in on a early flight and they obliged. Overslept next morning yet they happily served breakfast at 11.45. All in all family friendly cosy establishment. We will be back - until next time

Great village pub, lovely atmosphere and great quizz on Thursday night
H.
We went here for the first time on a Tuesday evening and it was a lovely experience. The pub has a really cosy atmosphere, with books and boardgames out for you to enjoy and a lit candle on each table. Staff were lovely and friendly. The only reason for not giving it a 5 star glowing review is my partner was disappointed with his burger. He was expecting something a bit more gourmet, some of our suggestions would be to include salad in the burger, include sauce or relish in the burger, swap bun for a brioche bun and serve with onion rings/coleslaw! I had the chicken supreme in a creamy sauce and it was delicious.
H. W.
Love this pub, such a fab atmosphere friendly staff and such good food.
R. N.
Very Nice pub with good beer, pub food, good roasted stuff and an excellent play area outside. If you are looking for a place to have a pub meal, or simply a beer while kids play that's the place to go!
e. r.
I had my 65 birthday meal and it was very good and very relaxing
P. “. Z.
Great food. Good service. Lovely ambiance
M. B.
Was on Holiday in Newham and stopped at Gloucester for the day. Nothing was available there then looked to nearby pubs. What a Gem! I live in Coventry and I am happy to drive 1hour or more to have that amazing Sunday Roast. And the staff!!! Great! And already recommended them to local friends.
J. R.
First visit but definitely won't be the last. 5 of us visited on a Sunday, 3 had a cooked dinner, 1 steak and ale pie and one burger. Probably the best cooked dinner we have had out in a long long time. And my son talked about the pie all the way home to Bridgend. Good selection of drinks and a cracking atmosphere. Staff pleasant and happy. Thank you Old Elm.
T. G.
Superb food with plenty of choice brought to you by friendly and polite staff. Would go again. 👍😃
S. T.
All my friends enjoyed there meals i had the roast not great dried meat and raw veg .and they kept forgetting my drink. But on a good point my toddler loved his garlic bread and the play area
M. G.
A Lovely Village feel to the Pub with grand views of Chosen Hill very good Ale selection. Food enjoy and order some worth it .Table service with a smile nice My favourite 🤓
C. B.
Delicious roast lamb Sunday lunch. Very good value too.
S. M.
Awesome service. Friendly people. Great home-cooked food. It’s the best family pub I’ve ever been in.
Plus - cherry bakewells!
M. P.
Very friendly lovely atmosphere great location along with homemade food
R. J.
Nice to sit outside in the sun. Very pleasant welcoming staff. Menu Sunday focused on roasts which didn't fancy in 30C heat so opted for a chicken bacon and parmesan salad which was OK. Good cask beer.
L.
Never had a bad meal here!
J. L.
Wonderful food just a bit too noisy in the bar area though. Have eaten here before always lovely food but I will book the restaurant area when I go again
T. M.
I wish I lived closer, I've been to the Old Elm a number of times and loved every visit over the years. I'm not in the area often but I make an effort to visit when I am. No matter when I've been, I've never been disappointed with either food or the service.
I look forward to my next visit, hopefully sooner rather than later.
A. G.
Local pub, amazing food and great atmosphere. Never fails to please.
A. N.
Good choice of food, standard pub grub but with plenty of veggie options which makes a change! Does just what it says on the tin, nothing too fancy but cooked well and tasty enough. We had a Sunday roast and the veggie option was delicious, not a nut roast for once too! Beer and cider selection is a bit average at best, but foot wine choice with some tastier and more expensive options of you want it. Good service and friendly staff, great village pub!
S. P.
Food was lovely, service was friendly but could have been a little faster. They lost one star because they didn't have any food allergy information - a member of our group has a severe allergy and needed clear information about ingredients (which restaurants are legally required to have). Staff were not clear about which main course dishes might contain dairy, and there was no dairy free dessert option. Responsibility for guessing which food is safe shouldn't be pushed onto a paying customer.
J. J.
There is a large amount of outdoor seating and efficient service. The food was excellent. I had burger and chips, but the result was something special
g. l. (.
Will I had my doubts when the new owners took over but they don't a fantastic job making the pub the centre of village life. BNow spruced up by new owners. A great selection of ales. Food served to 10pm. Sunday lunch is scrummy. Dog friendly.
T. M.
It's been over one year since we have attended a pub, this is our ultimate favourite and wow {so covid secure) as always customer focused, staff extremely friendly.. Matt hands on as he is and the food absolutely 1st class standard
B. M.
I usually love coming here the food has always been wonderful and the staff so helpful and friendly, it’s not the cheapest so we see it as a treat. Sadly this time I was not happy at all to see a young waitress parading arround in a very low cut black strapless top with a mid drift section with a belly bar piercing! When she lent over to put our meals down her breasts were practically in our faces. Very unprofessional!!
J. O.
Absolutely fantastic food. Went with my Dad and my partner. Will be back!
M. C.
Came to visit my Grandma and wanted to take her out for Sunday lunch. I contacted The Old Elm Inn to book a table and request a table somewhere quiet and near the door or toilet as my grandmother is partially deaf and not too stable on her feet. The staff were very helpful and seated us in a quiet corner near the toilets. They even came to check that the table was ok as there was a family seated next us with young children. The food was great, HUGE portion sizes and reasonably priced. Would recommend and will definitely be coming here again!
P. T.
Excellent food and great service.
W. H.
Excellent food menu with a great selection of meals. Superb range of real ales and spirits on offer. Friendly and welcoming staff. Just what a local pub should be.
D. H.
Nice large pub with good beers. They offer a discount for camra members. The atmosphere was nice and the staff friendly. I went for a work Christmas meal, which was very nice. They have events on every night, which looks good.
E. C.
Was done out very nicely, lot better than it used to be in side, nicely decorated with lot's of Santa's around , really liked the fact that we could take our dog's if wanted to as well. Food was great fresh veg big portion size, couldn't manage it all, could have done with being a bit hotter. But they were full to bursting and our group was big, pud was really nice again big portion size. As I used to cook in pubs long time ago, I can appreciate all the hard work you've all put in we will be using you again. One other thing the car park was very well lit. WELL DONE TO ALL.
C. B.
Loved my work Christmas lunch here. Great food and services. Worth coming up from Swansea.
T. B.
First time back in many years fantastic meal and service great atmosphere well recommend the old elm Inn 👍👍👍
D. M.
Popular on a Saturday evening. Busy and lively. Bar service was very good (food & drink). Too noisy for me though; sport on big screen, music via speakers and therefore high volume of conversations.
A. B.
Lovely customer service, food was nice at reasonable prices. The only thing to let this pub down is that they allow smoking at all there outside dining tables.
D. S.
Really nice Sunday roast, very much a local pub. Wasn't too sure about the table service area, it seems to be more for events and had no one in there when we came so we just sat in the general bar service area which was nice enough. Good service with friendly staff
S. S.
A little Gem of the area, the Old Elm Inn is one of the more traditional pubs hidden away.
Offering a decent kids outdoor play area, traditional home cooked food, great beer & ale, a nicely laid out pub with comfortable lounge area, bar area & large dining area, if you want to enjoy a coffee, drink or a meal, there's somewhere for you to get comfy and enjoy your time there.
The meals I've had there have been great. Even my parents were impressed.
Will definitely be a returning customer.
i. c.
Welcoming staff, family friendly, children loved the play area, nice big chunks of steak, in my steak and ale pie, 10/10 perfectly cooked food , would definitely come here again
J. H.
We had a fantastic meal on Fathers Day, quality of the food was amazing and the service was brilliant.
This was our first visit, but certainly wont be our last!!
Y. B.
Very nice Saturday lunch for 4 adults and a toddler. The steak pie and the ham eggs and chips were especially good.
M. a. m. c. g.
nice village pub with a good selection of food for all..
Only gripe is its a little pricey!!
But kids love the play area
S. B.
Had a lovely Sunday lunch here today, food was fantastic and very generous proportions Very friendly staff, highly recommended. Will be back again soon.
J. H.
Good food and service, friendly staff. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating available, plus there is a car park.
C. P.
Good selection of real ales although not always delivered in good condition. In fairness they do allow you to try ales in one third of a pint glasses. I have only eaten here once and it was very disappointing.
All in all it is a busy family pub with an outdoor play area. The bar also has books and games available to keep children occupied.
J. B.
First time back at the restaurant to have Sunday lunch and it was as delicious as I remember. The staff and service is top class. The Old Elm is the heart of our village.
D. J.
Where to begin. From the moment we arrived on Wednesday until the moment we left today (Saturday) we have been treated like one of the family. Matt, Sarah and the team have been brilliant. The accommodation was first class, the meals beyond excellent. This pub is the beating heart of Churchdown Village.
Good luck with the turning on of the pubs Christmas Lights on Sunday and with all the many events you have planned over the festive period, we only wish we could be there to share the fun with you all
Merry Christmas and a very happy New Year to you all
Dave and Andreaxxxxxxxx
A. R.
Excellent service from all staff and lovely food, definitely a great experience.
J. N.
My favorites place to eat near Cheltenham. Fantastic home cooked food. Great portions, such friendly staff. I have never booked and they have always accommodated me. Play area for children outside and board games inside.
l. s.
Great beer and food. Specials are always lovely and the deal nights are a treat.
They also have a pub quiz and live music. Recently they have started a cinema night too.
Very friendly atmosphere and a pokestop too.
R. L.
Nicely decorated interior. Good real ales. Staff friendly but way over the top. Cloying even. All round a pleasant experience even so.
J. H.
It was good to be back. Great service and food as usual. Another post covid goal ticked off, we'll be booking an inside meal as close to 17th May as we can 🙂
P. P.
Great local pub with fantastic food and friendly staff.
J. H. J.
Lovely food, lovely pub, good drinks on draught but expensive to say the least.
I. S.
A Jewel in the Crown of Gloucester, we made a late booking for Sunday Lunch, the staff were friendly and helpful, and advised us on the Local beers on offer, and welcomed our suggestions on how to promote themselves via Google Maps. We had the Roast Sunday Lunch which was F A B, It is the place to go for Sunday Lunch, but be warned, go Hungry they serve very large portions. Will definitely be going back.
C. R.
Great local family friendly pub. Good choice of food, friendly staff (special mention to Matt and Dan) who are always happy to help. Great location - highly recommend.
T. M.
We have been eating and drinking here since it opened the service has never disappointed and the standard of food never fails we always highley recommend. You need too book on a weekend too save disappointment and theme evenings it's well worth it, good old fashion pub with such a relaxed atmosphere
S. T.
Save our Christmas as we had to reorganise and were able to fit us in for a takeaway Christmas Meal. Amazing roast potatoes and some mulled wine as I waited for the collection. Thank you all!
M. F.
Went with the family today and had a Sunday lunch, must say it's the best I've had for a while. We booked a table and I would advise other to do the same as it was very busy and popular whilst we were there. Will return 👌👍
P. C.
I’ve never actually had a drink here, however they’re doing a takeaway Sunday lunch during the lockdown and it’s outstanding, especially the roast lamb!
D. W.
Good selection of food and drink. Staff are always friendly and helpful. It's best to book a table for Sunday lunch though. Children are welcome as well.
E. B.
Great stay here. The bedrooms are beautifully decorated with lots of nice little touches. Ate in the restaurant several times and would particularly recommend the Thursday night quiz and food specials.
M. C.
Great take out as an option, to dining in. We are not quite ready to dine in at a restaurant yet but for the last 3 weekends we have had very nice take away meals and they are very careful in managing the process so we feel very safe doing this.
K. W.
A random discovery on the Internet for lunch with my elderly mum. The welcome was warm, the food excellent and good value, the beer well kept, the facilities clean, the ambience very pleasant. What more can you ask?
J. M.
Food looked amazing although we didn't try any. Staff very friendly!

m. w.
Amazing Roast dinner and lovely staff and atmosphere.
R. P.
Great local pub, bantering bar staff, warm atmosphere, nice play area for the kids and lots of events. Food, however, inmu opinion, is meh and not worth the inflated price. Everyone else seems to disagree with me though so perhaps it's a matter of taste
P. W.
Lovely meal. Just a little noise, so a little trouble having a conversation
S. E.
Great family pub. Outside play area. Good reasonably priced menu. Very welcoming staff. Also a good choice of beers!
M. G.
Great customer service for a pre-booked party of 13. Friendly and professional staff, food portions generous and reasonably priced. Highly recommended.

R. P.
Good selection of real cask bitters. Good and reasonably priced menu. Enjoyed the meal and the beer. Friendly atmosphere. Recommended.
P. L.
Had a wonderful time at The Old Elm Inn. As I suffer from Diverticulitis I have to watch what I eat and I was able to pick a Starter for 1st and a Starter for the main, down with a refreshing Lagar Shandy. Everyone was so helpful, makes me feel so much better, some Places can make me feel uncomfortable !
S. F.
Excellent food friendly staff and quiz night is a lot of fun

Great food, great service and very reasonable prices. Also, very important for me, is that the chef caters for my Crohns Disease restrictions. Highly recommended.

Food and drinks good.. don't appreciate owner tapping me to get my attention the Shushing me. Quite rude 😒
J. B.
I have visited many places in the area for Sunday lunch, but I can honestly say after visiting The Old Elm in Churchdown earlier today, this has to be one of the best, I had the mixed roast, very reasonable price, and exceptional value for money, followed by Tiramisu again exceptional, at gem in the heart of Churchdown
S. M.
Vegan, ate on new years eve when the staff were of course very busy - they couldn't have been more helpful in making sure that our choices were actually vegan. Super staff, top service and smashing food - thank you.

Really nice atmosphere, good food, friendly staff and important to us , Dog friendly as well. Certainly recommend it food is lush xx
J. E.
On a visit to the old elm was given a dirty glass with lipstick. The barman dipped the glass into the ice bucket to wet it, wiped it with a tea towel and re filled it. On second visit to the bar, the same barman took a glass off the shelf, dipped it into the same ice bucket and then wiped it. Not sure about that for health reasons , I don't think that I would have liked that ice in my drink! Glasses should have been checked when washed and put away.
P. D.
Very good everything cooked lovely good portions will go again staff smiling & friendly will recommend

Excellent service, excellent quality, excellent taste. Best nachos I have eaten in a pub ever, can't stop coming back to them. Need to have them with chilli!

(Translated) A great place to drink a few pints and eat some delicious dishes. The staff is very friendly and attentive and the space is spacious, with many tables outside, even so, it is advisable to book as it is always very crowded. It also has parking although, from what I said before, it usually has few free spaces.
