Reviews of The Lion & Key

Great food and a lovely pub, very cosy inside with lots of memorabilia. The food waiting time was a bit long but no complaints once arrived. Sadly no draft cider available and bizarrely no apple cider in bottles either ( only pear or fruit). Limited draft lagers on draft as well. But will definitely return for the food...the menu tempts us back

Visited Hull Old Town today and so glad we did as it's a great olde area. Found this very traditional "boozer" and it's full of character and serves great food too .... I went for Hull Patty (can't beat 2 different ways to have potatoes .... except by adding more) and chips and was not disappointed.

Popped in on the off-chance we could find a table and have a few drinks before finding a restaurant close by. The pub was lovely and the menu looked appealing so we decided to try it out. We weren't disappointed, it was fabulous and some of the best fish I've ever had. The pub looks great and we loved the beer mat covered ceiling. Well worth a visit for sure if you're in the area.

The decor of this pub is amazing: exposed floorboards, a ceiling of old pump-clips and an assortment of antique objects. It's very popular for food although this can make it seem that every table is booked up.
The beer choice is cask-focused and beers have always been well-kept in my experience. However, the beer choice is always - without trying to be rude - a bit 'random'. Obscure Yorkshire breweries such as Hilltop and White Rose, seem to dominate making it feel like you're in one of their taps rather than a supposed freehouse. It would be nice to se some of the better Yorkshire, cask-making breweries represented.

Great selection of drinks, the propoganda drink is really good, and the food is very good. The fish and chips is awesome
B. H.
Amazing food, friendly staff, great decor.
A proper old fashioned pub with loads of handpull Ales!
M. R.
A lovely pub, the decor downstairs was great to look at, so much to see. Great drink and staff. Will visit again when in Hull next.
E. R.
A proper lovely pub. Bonkers collection of ephemera all over the walls & shelves and a huge collection of beer mats stuck to the ceiling. We didn't eat but the portions we saw were massive & will eat their next time. Lovely old building in the old town of Hull. Plenty of hand-pulled ales for real ale fans!
M. C.
A lovely, cosy space with fantastic fish and chips. The staff are very friendly and welcoming.
A. G.
Beautiful rustic interiors & a lot of food options. Good for vegans & vegetarians !
T.
Restaurant quality food in a nice looking pub. Best pub in town with nice atmosphere and always different menu offered. Worst choice is not to walk in.
R. S.
What a gem of a pub and 1st class food lovely drinking and eating enviroment

We booked a table for four this week and extremely glad we did. The food was piping hot, excellently cooked and served promptly for all four of us.
It's one of the best lunches we've had in a long long time and the staff are brilliant; can't do enough to help. We'll be going back to the Lion and Key for our next lunch out.
P. L.
Lovely looking decor, really interesting. Very good range of gins. Small beer garden in the back. Re visited
M. C.
The food was really nice and the price reasonable. However avoid the bottle wine, its quite expensive and I'm not being funny but you can get cheaper plonk from Aldi that's nicer, could of flavoured my chips with theirs.
H. S.
There is a new chef, and the food has definitely improve. The service is good and they are always happy to adapt a meal to accommodate your food intolerances.
Unfortunately there are very few vegan choices (but what they do have are very nice) and very few vegan drinks (no Guinness, no Peroni, no Italian pinot grigio, no Porter, no stout!)

Excellent pub in the old town. Very comfortable interior with a welcoming ambience. The ceilings are covered with beer mats and the walls with old adverts. There are also odds and ends of nautical memorabilia. The food is good - high quality pub food with plentiful of vegetarian options. It is all cooked fresh so you may have to be patient when they are busy. There were 9 or 10 different real ales available when I visited. They also do tea by the mug - joy! The hard-working staff run around dispensing plates or food and cheerfulness.

Great food, lovely decor, friendly staff.
J. G. M.
The pub itself is great and selection of beer fantastic. However, the wait on food and portion size is pitiful at times.
J. W.
Good pub, friendly staff and a huge choice of beers. Large fish and chips was excellent (and huge - see pic). Others on the table had pizza, curry and prawns - all with good reviews.
Lots of old trinkets, beer mats and posters stuck around the place made it quite a cost pub. Good value for money - will be recommending it to friends!
E. R.
Amazing local pub in Hull. They serve the best fish and chips and make a great pattie. If you don't know what a pattie is, make sure to try one, you can thank me later by giving this review a like ;)

Went to lion and key to meet up with a friend from Germany . Ordered my pint of blackcurrant and lemonade ....couldn't believe it cost me £3. Nice place all done out with a cross puby antique industrial mash up ... Ended up ordering food but at £14 I wasn't having fish and chips . Ended up having tuna sarni side salade that's gastro fancy ticket stuff that my rabbit would turn it's nose up at ...and a handful of chips.. was alright but at £7 cos I had the chips ..so it needed to be a good sarni.
G. W.
Went for Sunday lunch..the pub has loads of character and has a warm welcoming atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and efficient and our meals excellent..and a great pint to wash it all down..will definitely pay a visit again soon.
M. C.
Good atmosphere and very friendly staff. Good selection of drinks and a fairly good menu if a little "haddocky". It is a shame that meals fnish at 7.30pm and it closes at just 10pm.

So we are new to this area and while on the way to hull from withernsea, my OH picked where to eat. On a side note, we did have to drive around for a bit to find parking as I have a high top campervan but we found a carpark near by. Anyway when we got there, the outside didnt do it any favours and to be truthful, we did momentarily look for other places to eat as it wasnt inviting at all. After only a minute or so we just decided, stuff it, we'll try it. As we walked through the door , it was a whole different ball game. Very old pub feel. Lit candles in old bottles on all the tables. The ones where the wax had been dripping down them for years and left. Old metal posters and drawings everywhere. Bar coasters filled the ceilings. Shelves were covered in old pottery and glassware and intriguing nic nacs. I was hooked. There were already a couple tables reserved but found a corner to veg in.the menu Is varied and everything is cooked fresh to order. We had the meat feast and a bit of everything pizzas. Home made pesto and potato patties?? Never had them before. I can not tell you how much I enjoyed tucking in to those pizzas! They were delicious. And the potato patties. We made a right mess but didnt care. ( cleared up after ourselves though) so this 2ill note become our favourite place to eat as we make our way through the menu even the vegan and vegetarian. Its was just a lovely calm warm homely place to be. Oh! The bar!!! You have to order food at the bar and I'm indecisive at the best of times but the selection of spirits above the bar had me pondering for quite some time. Another reason to go back.... staff were lovely too so our thanks to the chef for the amazing pizza and the lovely bar staff.❤
T. L. (.
Great food and drinks, lovely atmosphere! If your looking for a quirky pub this is the place for you. We ordered some pizzas and they were great! Will be returning on our next visit to Hull.
D.
The food is excellent and the staff were very happy to help. A wide selection of beers available. Highly recommended.
W. T.

G. A.

F. C.
Good selection of beers , buzzers on tables for service, and interesting pub decor
K. C.
First class absolutely love this pub .Every time I come back to my lovely city I come here . It has great staff great atmosphere and great beer .
R. B.
Good food at a good price only thing that let it down on my visit was the one hour and a quarter wait although we pre booked the table.
C. T.
Fantastic staff, extremely helpful and coupled with the great decor, lovely food and atmosphere make it a must go place.
C. M.
Great beers, food and nice quirky pub.

c. w.
The best pub in Hull for us. Great food, wonderful ales and the friendly staff just make us want to stay for hours! Unfortunately, as we live in Sheffield we only get to enjoy this pub occasionally.
S. S.
Excellent beer and very friendly and helpful staff.
J. B.
Good food and good beer with fair prices. Can't go wrong.
J. H.
This pub was a nice cosy warm and welcoming place. The staff was friendly and they had plenty of ales to choose from and food was being served as well. It's well worth a visit if your in the area.
E. B.
What an awesome find, beautiful decor, amazing food, cheap drinks - nothing to fault!
The food was absolutely delicious & the portion size, ooft! Definitely will not go hungry!
Absolutely a MUST visit if in the Old Town of Hull, a very traditional English pub with beer matts covering the walls.
J. M.
Just loved this place, first ever visit. The food was Scrummy, a true hull experience, pattie, chips and mushy peas. My hubby even got discount, win, win.
R. S.
UPDATED - Visited again, on our own this time. The staff recognised us (which is amazing considering we only manage to visit the Lion a few times a year), and thanked us for our kind review from our last visit where they coped brilliantly with everyone in the family. Food great as usual, although portions too large for us.
Staff who are young, were totally brilliant once again, nothing too much trouble - their parents must be very proud - they are an absolute credit to them.
FATHERS DAY - Party of 5, one with early-onset Alzheimers (in early 50s) and another with dementia. Told the staff when we arrived just in case there were delays whilst we ordered. Absolutely amazing response - from changing a stool to a chair (without prompting) to arranging for us to use toilet facilities at a sister pub across the road as stairs are difficult (they even rang through and told them to look out for us), to very polite service, nothing too much trouble - and brilliant food. Cannot praise this place or the staff enough. Thank you so much for making our day - you were all absolutely amazing!!!!
K. T.
Chanced being able to get a table. Was told booked up but if we could find a table outside that would be ok. Lovely young lady took our order, and brought food to us. Although weren't able to finish all of the meal, the food was good and service was first rate. Would definitely go again. Staff were all very friendly
E.
Cracking pub for the real ale drinker, loads of choice! I was in there on a Wednesday dinner time,it was rammed with people enjoying food,I didn't eat but it looked lovely. The staff were knowledgeable about all the 14 ales they had to offer, which makes a nice change. They also have a huge selection of spirits to choose from.
C. P.

G. C.

Been here a few times now. Lovely pub, fantastic food. I especially love the decor, all the oldie world things on display. From beer mats covering the ceiling, to the old tin signs on the walls and not to mention the old tin of Vim cleaner. Highly recommend this little gem.
M.
A really grest pub. The bar is awesome. Exvellent real ale. Really popular for food.

R. Y.
Great food very friendly staff and a Good selection of beers and drinks good sense of humour in the decor
E. D.
Popped in for a quick pint after work. Now I like light summer ales but the beer that I had was frankly a bit thin. That aside the bar was well organised and the staff could not have been more attentive and helpful. While I didn't have anything to eat, they were doing a brisk trade and the food looked good and the portions looked very generous indeed!
c. h.
Lost count of the number of real ales on offer. Candle lit at nighttime. Although I have not tasted the food it looked great. Sits in a great position in Hulls Old Town, first pub after the pedestrian bridge when coming from the East (Premier Inn)
J. S.
Great food & beer. Return every time I'm in Hull. Shame though that they don't do starters or desserts.
D. P.
Very quirky place lovely staff excellent food. Terrific team work. We will be back & reccomend to others 🎈

Great staff, great food, great selection of beers and other drinks. What more is to be said?
K. S.
Good beer, friendly, knowledgable staff.
D. P.
Beautiful real ale pub selling home cooked fish and chips
Follow on - either side covid this pub has managed wonderfully. I continue to return for alcohol and food as both are great. Staff are great and the cooks need a gold star too. The perfect local pub remember to book for food as this place is very popular.
D. H.
Excellent service and food was amazing. Defo go back
C. A.
Was recommended this bar by Paul who was our walking tour guide, he was right it does serve fantastic fish and chips, really nice bar with very helpful staff.
C. G.
Very lovely pub and today we had a lovely lunch. The staff made us feel very welcome. Thank you
R. T.
The literal BEST fish and chips I've ever had the honour of consuming in such a neat looking pub. When in Hull, get some of this place.
G. L.
Been there today for a late afternoon/early evening meal.. we were told of a lengthy wait by the lady on the bar (Ellie) but she took the food order as quick as she could from us and took it upstairs while we were deciding drinks.. my friends took a while deciding drinks and she was wise to suggest that!!
The service experience overall was fun and friendly, with a hint of sass (not rude or rushed as you find in many places) and this was very much appreciated by me, and my group. A real asset to the bar/business/industry; why should this come as a surprise to me? A person behind a bar who can be both friendly and efficient shouldn't be unusual surely!!!
The food arrived slightly quicker than advertised, although this was still quite a wait for food when it wasn't 'that' busy.. but when it arrived it was excellent. Very good fish and chips for my friends, and I really enjoyed my pattie bites.. not sure either dip went with them.. but it was very tasty (and very hot) regardless of the accompaniment.
Great staff, great service, great food... Worth waiting for if you can spare the time.
C. H.
The food is fantastic and it's got a lovely view out the back.
C. B.
Of all the bars in the city centre I think this one is my favourite. It's right at the heart of the museum quarter and the bar itself has a very unique look and feel that you have to see to appreciate. The staff are all very friendly and helpful and the food is good too. I was in there today with family who ordered food, they were waiting a while for it, which I'm sure is probably an exception, and when told about it the staff were very apologetic, even going so far as to give them a free drink each. Even then the food was well worth the wait.
V. C.
Fantastic selection of ales and spirits. Great atmosphere and very friendly staff. Not to mention the best Christmas rum night out!
Food is also great. The smell of good food always greets you as you walk through the door.
If you aren't sure on what pint you fancy, the staff are happy to give you a taster before you buy.
J. H.
Not many pubs give you the option of "skin on" fried haddock. It didn't disappoint, light crispy batter concealing a perfectly cooked fillet. Great choice of handpulls too. Look forward to returning.
P. C.
One of the best pubs in Hull. Great interior, cosy, fantastic selection of ales, gins etc. Food is top notch too.
D. K.
Very good food and well kept real ale. Beer in better nick than when twelve beers were on tap.
N. P.
Excellent food, good choice of ales and the staff are courteous and helpful
K. S.
Lovely atmosphere, great decor. Amazing choice of gins. Will definitely return when in Hull again
J. B.
Brilliant real ale choice, such a beautiful pub too
C. A.
Fantastic service, food and atmosphere.
P. L.
Great pub with a big choice of real ales. The food was well cooked and really tasty. There was a good range of food to choose and a specials board. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We will definitely be coming back soon.
T. W.
Fantastic, as always! Lion & Key have totally got it right after reopening post lockdown. They've taken measures to make the environment safer, without 'ruining' the experience. Great table service, always willing to check if you want more drinks, without it feel pushy. The food and drink is great as always, and adding both vegan options and options which can be made vegan is a true testament to a pub which understands the shift in food habits, without compromising on the quality or offering for everyone. Somehow this place gets it right every time!
R. T.
What an amazing lite gem of a pub the heart of the old town. Fish and chips are top quality, would throughly recommend a visit.
B. R.
Built in 1934 this is neither the oldest or most characterful pub in Hull old town sure, but its still oozing with character and warmth, a top food menu at decent prices and the best selection of ales around here. Prices on the beer are good too, around £3 a pint for a well kept hand pulled ale, with the selection changing weekly. Probably my favourite pub in the old town
G. D.
The food menu isn't as good as it used to be
P. P.
Delicious craft beer. Reasonable prices, clean toilets, experienced and friendly personnel. Great Pub
J. H.
Beautiful food! You could literally pick anything from the menu and not be disappointed. I keep missing the salt and pepper prawns special but I've never left disappointed. The beer is lovely and my boyfriend and I always have a great time here. Lovely atmosphere.
G. C.
A pub with traditional in Hull. I pass by it on my way to old town every day when coming from the pedestrian bridge. Food is good, maybe a little pricey for Hull. The beer selection is also interesting. The best part about it in my opinion is the exterior sheltered terrace, it is one of the best places to be during the summer months.
m. b.
Good food good service will be going back
J. G.
Good food . good beer. Friendly staff
T. S.
EXCELLENT, Food, Service, and Very Polite Bar Staff, No Complaints Whatsoever. Many Thanks.
P.
A proper pub in the heart of Old Town.
The decor is unreal! Old advertising on the walls and a sea of beer mats on the ceiling. Chilled atmosphere with really friendly staff. Real ales can be a bit hit and miss, but they're constantly changing and that's down to personal taste anyway.
D. C.
Had this one couldn't get the peanut butter, more like a chocolate wafer flavour but very nice, had several on the strengh of it
w. G.
Lovely old style pub with loads of hand-pull beers on offer. Had the small fish and chips for lunch, and I have to say it was probably the best fish I've ever had. Definitely worth a visit. Friendly staff and speedy service.Fab!
D. H.
Fantastic little pub, About 150 mile from home and it feels like the local.
P. S.
Excellent pub with fantastic staff, decor and atmosphere. You cannot go wrong with the wide choice of ales, beers and spirits. I did not have any food, but it looked delicious. It was my first ever visit, but I hope to visit again soon. Highly recommended you try this great pub
I. L.
Good choice of real ale. Friendly place.
d. n.
Great atmosphere, great food, great beer and brilliant attentive staff
M. C.
Quality chippy special one thing I would change is the very uncomfortable church seating benches in this fantastic boozer
R.
Get place to pop for a drink as it has a unique interior and great selection of beers. This is the place I will always take someone when they're visiting Hull. They also do the best fish and chips in Hull (in my opinion) as well as other food.
M. E.
Relaxing and warm atmosphere for those like old school pubs. The real ales selection is fairly enough, i think they brew their own label allways available. The food is very fair. The stuff is ok as well.
M. D.
Fab food lovely staff, Georgia looked after us. We were lucky to get in so I'd advise booking ahead
A. B.
Loved it, went on Monday for lunch with hubby and some friends - food excellent and if your over 65 or a student you get discounts. Took my daughter on Thursday of the same week to show her and she loved it too...
M. D.
Pub itself is lovely and beer selection out of this world. Would be 5 stars, but the food is described in quite a pretentious manner at slightly higher price than I would expect on receiving an ok meal, but nothing more. Take a quid or two off price of mains and describe them more simply and expectations and 5 stars would be achieved. Thanks though
D. Y.
Really atmospheric pub in the Old Town close to both the city centre and the dockside area. Great selection of beers. We went at Saturday lunchtime and it was fairly busy with quite a few tables reserved. We did not eat, but looking at the meals being served wished we had. We liked the pub so much we decided to come back and have dinner, but we had a disappointment - they stopped serving food at 5pm! What a shame. Would certainly recommend the pub for drinks or lunch😋
S. R.
What a fab place! Love everything about it. It's our first choice every time. Such great style and ambience. The food is divine, thanks to Dave the Chef who transforms basic ingredients into wonderful, exquisite dishes. He works his magic every time. If you have never been you have missed out! Make the Lion & Key your next stop.
Chris & Sharon
Hull. East Yorks.

Nice to return for excellent food and service give it a try if your visiting the area you won't be disappointed it is advisable to book as it gets busy.
J.
Great food, friendly staff. Quiet but Sunday evening after the football what do you expect.
D. S.
Beautiful food and staff. Great service. Waited about 45 minutes for food but was aware of this.
a. d.
Great place good beers and excellent food, great fish & chips + pizza
S. J.
Great little pub with HUGE servings of delicious piping hot food. The staff were lovely and up for a chat as we weren’t locals and had a few questions about the place.
Glad I read previous reviews and chose to dine here
P. B.
Great pub...with excellent food.
A. N.
Lion & Key is my favourite pub in Hull. Always has the best fish and chips!
G. K.
Food excellent so was the service even though it was a limited drink menu still very enjoyable
L. M.
Food is gorgeous but a bit expensive but gets busy so book before you go
T. N.
Cool old town pub with nice atmosphere and quirky/British decor (old school taps, mats, trays, coasters etc). Kitchen closes before 5 which is odd but they have a great array of spirits! Quite small.
L. P.
Beautiful food, brilliant staff. Looking forward to going back
G. J.
Love this pub.
Loads of different well looked after beers. Honest menu with fantastic fresh fish and chips.
Staff are lovely which just adds to the great vibe here.
Best pub I've been in in Hull.
J. C.
Food top quality but the best chef in hull as left 😋 still the best place to eat in hull
S. S.
Lunch today Fish and chips great Good value and excellent service Would recommend 👌
M. D.
Food is excellent and reasonable price. Normally the wait for meals is average. Today we waited a long time for ours (40 mins) but once again it was piping hot full of flavour. The Chip shop special is great.
D. G.
Excellent, well-priced fish and chips. Not often you get asked whether you'd prefer the skin on or off! This pub is well worth seeking out for its food and extensive range of real ales.
t. p.
Possibly the BEST fish and chips we have ever had! Don't get frustrated if there is a wait. It's because it is being cooked for you not whizzed in and rewarmed#nodinghere!!! Lush xxx
R. H.
My favourite pub in Hull by far! Loads to choose from and the staff are very friendly.
Very hard not to go in this place and get neckache from looking at all the beer mate on the ceiling!
Great hybrid of "old pub" and "contemporary pub"
A must go if new to/visiting Hull
M. C.
Very nice old town pub with a good variety of beers and spirits. The beer garden is decorated with Hull Street signs and is very pleasant on a warm night. Not had the food but been told it's very nice. While you're there try Wm Hawkes 20 yards away and Ye Olde Black Boy and Sailmakers Arms further along High Street.
N. H.
Best fish and chips+peas we have ever had. Our third visit, and it won't be our last.
T. W.
Cracking pub with LOADS of beers on tap! It's the sort of pub you want to head to if you enjoy a beer or two which don't fall into a standard lager or Guinness bracket. Expect to see a few local ales to try and practically ever style of beer. Plenty of space and seating inside, but do expect it to get busy on Fridays/weekends. You won't find many places in Hull like this to drink a great selection of beers 😀
J. C.
Everytime I go to this pub I notice something I didn't see before with its interesting decor! Excellent selection of drinks ranging from ales to rarer spirits that you don't usually see in other pubs. My only gripe is sometimes the toilets aren't the freshest.
R. L.
Interesting junk decor. Good range of real ales including Taylor's Poultry Porter which was well kept. Friendly staff who directed us well to a good neighbouring eating house as they had finished serving food themselves.
D. H.
Very good quality food, the triple decker cured meat sandwich was excellent and the family had fish and chips which they said was the same, would certainly recommend and revisit
L. E.
Nice and interesting pub, has a lot of history and seems to pride itself with it. Good selection of drinks and tap and very wide selection of spirits! Yet to try the food from here however.
J. C.
On entering this place had a good vibe.
We liked the interior and it was one of the busier pubs on this Sunday afternoon.
Unfortunately the only bartender wandered off up that staircase and left us hanging.
So we nipped round the corner to quench our thirst at the Wm Hawkes.
J. S.
A very popular old town pub with an excellent choice of home cooked food. Absolute diamond if you fancy a bite to eat alongside a decent pint.
J. S.
Great food, great atmosphere and some fabulous real ale. Can get a bit crowded. Was in a couple of weeks ago and a lot of the tables were reserved which was a minor annoyance.
M. J.
Amazing food for a pub !
Had the Hull Chippy special which is all super fresh and comes with an amazing Pattie (Hull Specialty) and fries and, in my case, mushy peas. Everything was so fresh and the choice of beers is epic!
100% excellent
K.
Excellent pub selling craft/special beers/lagers and often voted number 1 place to eat in hull! A must visit when in the historic old town..nice outdoor area decorated with fairy lights. FANTASTIC FISH&CHIPS!!!!!
i. E.
Well kept pub with friendly staff, decent pint at a reasonable price.
D. K.
Delicious freshly cooked pizza, always a delight
A. S.
The food is amazing we had the cod cheeks wow great craft beers huge selection of wines spirits fab atmosphere and staff right in the middle of Hulls old historic town buildings great little outdoor area a must

Fabulous building, warm, cozy feel, love all the artifacts, fanbloodytastic choice of ales, brilliant bar staff! Wonderful, just wonderful! Shows it is because was rampacked on a Monday night! A must venue when going to Hull
D. P.
Ok, so I wasn't overly impressed with the menu and would have gone else where until the specials list arrived. Had the trio of fish which was really good although I felt a little let down I wasn't informed about the salmon replacing the mackerel but it doesn't spoil the meal. Will visit again
J.
Excellent selection of unusual ales, spirits and bottles.. lovely setting, very traditional.. food also on par with the ambience of the place, limited choice however delicious and cooked fresh in house.. I had the game casserole - "please sir can I have some more"
L. D.
Tasty homemade food with good portion sizes.
J. T.
Good public house in Hull's Old Town. Small outdoor beer garden. Friendly staff and nice meals. At the bottom of Scale Lane and close to footbridge across River Hull
D. G.
Nice pub, good ambience and great food. Friendly bar staff, good choice of ales and spirits. Plenty of seating and a warm atmosphere. One of the best in the old town

Nice old fashioned pub. Fast and friendly service.

Once durty nellys, with its giant connect four, jenga and Irish pub vibe, this has, even with the benefit of rose tinted spectacles, gone from strength to strength. Now, as an old town pub in an area with a rich maritime history, this is a Hull pub amongst Hull pubs. Very reasonable and tasty food, friendly staff, hilarious and offensive Viz posters In the gents, huge selection of spirits, especially many varieties of Gin and Rum. There is an outdoor Rum Garden, adorned with railway paraphernalia, with heaters and enough cover for the very put upon 21st century smokers contingent, with a small Hatch to access the Main bar. Very traditional decor, dark wooden beams, panels, thousands of beer mats, wagon wheel chandelier (unless that was a rum induced hallucination) which all serves to garner an atmosphere of bonhomie, comradeship, and, after ten, sodden, happy revelry. Its a must, for all but the most miserable of teetotallers. Go happy, and you'll leave happier.
J. B.
V good. Unrecognisable from its prior identity of Durty Nellie's Irish Pub when you wiped your feet on the way out. Excellent selection of beer and food v tasty.
o.
lovely pub, food was nice, biggest handmade pizza i've had. big range of real ales and other drinks. had rum porter. twice. ceilig is coverd in beer mats, so spent ten minutes seeing which ones i knew. bar staff very nice. candles on every table which was very cosy and romantic, just wouldn't mind knowing about where fire extinguishers were! toilets upstairs so maybe no good for those with disability. may have had other option downstairs but did not notice. would certainly call in if i go to hull again.
M. L.

We frequent this place as it's near the office and the food and staff are consistently amazing.
Having worked through about half the menu I've never had anything that was less than superb (and the Veggie Bean Burger (despite not been a vegatarian)) is better than anything I've ever had elsewhere.
Fantastic place to go for lunch if you are in the old town.
