I. S.This place was recommended by the landlady of a pub in Withernsea, so we went, expecting big things. We weren't disappointed. Smiling, friendly staff welcomed us. Sunday lunch, quite busy, but that didn't bother them. Wife had a child's Sunday lunch, which she only just finished. I had the adult version, which was fantastic. Plenty of well cooked, tasty food, all freshly cooked. If we had one criticism, it's that the sherry trifle didn't seem to have any sherry in it, but that's nit picking. Our first time there, but it won't be the last !

Having been greeted by Chris and seated at our table ,drinks were ordered and our pre booked starters arrived shortly afterwards. All starters were amazing as was the Red Wine / White wine and main courses. Even though the Restaurant was busy , all our food including Steaks -Med - med rare and rare all came out together and cooked to perfection. The girls waiting on the tables were so attentive, led by front of house Chris. Amazing food and atmosphere. Thank you all so much. We will be back . Jerry and Lynne .

g. h.Went for Sunday lunch. Between the 3 if us we had two varieties and one scamp and chips. Could have extra yorkshire pudding and cauliflower cheese (you get 1 yorkshire with dinner). We got extra cauliflower cheese which was served in separate dish. I had beef, hubby had Turkey. There was plenty to eat and it was delicious. Vegetables not overcooked, just right.

The staff and owners were friendly and knowledgeable, promoting a very relaxed atmosphere, we couldn't have asked for better service. Huge thank you to all the waiters and waitresses, as when we arrived they were 'incredibly' busy, yet remained calm, smiling and welcoming.
The food too was amazing, I like my steak well done and they did not disappoint. It was moist and tender, crispy outside yet soft inside. Perfect.
Compliments to chef Simon, who we were told was cooking that particular afternoon.
Best pub food I've had in quite some time.

A. P.Fab, fab and yes... fab. My go to meal at a first visit is the mixed grill, and it didn't disappoint. The meat was flavoursome and cooked well. I am guessing it is all bought from local butchers rather than cheap commercial products. Changed the fries for sweet potato fries with no problem. Only disappointment was no custard, only ice cream, to go with my delicious sticky toffee pudding.

The amount of food and the quality was perfect, really tasty. The pub has a great cosy country pub feel to it and an added bonus for us is that we were able to take the dog as well. Will definitely be returning in the future. Just 1 last thing..... My father in law had the mixed grill. I've had many a mixed grill but this looked, and by the sounds of it was possibly the best mixed grill around these parts! All the meat looks like the finest cuts on offer for a mixed grill. This said he still couldn't finish it all 😁

a. t.Nice pub, been a few years since we've been, under new management, a nice friendly welcoming atmosphere, reasonably priced food and drink, we had the Sunday roast which served in a timely manner. Even though we where early we didn't have to wait, and it was fairly busy, staff were attentive and friendly, no complaints. I understand that the pub is undergoing refurbishment, so hopefully it is done tastefully and they don't lose the charm of the place. Only downside is the car park is very tight when full so manoeuvring can be a challenge.

G. B.Went for Sunday lunch. The food was beautiful, but the portions for the vegetables was extremely small and glad that we ordered a portion of cauliflower cheese. Also could have done to have been hotter. However we would go again as this has always been one of our favourite venues and am sure they will get it right eventually.

We were staying in a caravan park nearby for weekend and couldn't be chewed cooking, called in here on the off chance and oh my, the food, mouthwatering!
I got the pork loin, and it was cooked to perfection and so very very tasty.
My partner got the hunters chicken and although he struggled, he devoured the lot, the portions were generous!
I took what I couldn't eat home with me because I refused to waste any of it!
Massive thanks to the chef, still raving about your food 3 days later!!!

j. c.Found this pub while on holiday last week and its fantastic, the minute you walk in the door you just know it's the right decision, comfortable, great atmosphere, fire and candles and welcoming friendly staff including owner's Chris and Emma.
Great selection of beers and foods, steak pie is the bees knees, homemade and packed with meat, we also did the steak night, perfectly cooked steaks, this place gets 10/10. Great fish and veggies dishes too.
Just wish we lived nearby as would feast at Stags head on weekly basis. Well recommended.
J. H.We had an absolutely brilliant night at The Stags Head, celebrating our sons 18th birthday. A large table, accommodated at short notice. All meals came out together, hot, and the food was delicious. Steaks cooked to perfection and special dietary requirements met without hesitation.
The staff were attentive and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. They even sang Happy Birthday and bought him a pint!!!
We will definately return and would recommend anyone to do the same.Thank you for a wonderful evening.

A. A.My daughter's birthday and we had afternoon tea. Everything was lovely. Food so fresh and tasty. Plenty of everything including scones with jam and cream. My wife had a steak and ale pie and I had the belly of pork, my god the food was good, I have never tasted nor seen a well stocked pie like this, cant fault the food and a very welcoming place to eat. Well done and as said, out of the three local pubs we tried, this one by far was just outstanding, the Black Bull and the Nancy Inn in my book at best are to be avoided.

B. T.Fantastic meal here tonight! First time we've been since it got taken over by new owners very recently. The food (spicy steak and chicken pizza for me, pork and venison burger for my other half) was excellent. Service was absolutely flawless too.. great to see somewhere with good old fashioned service these days, was beginning to think it no longer existed until tonight! Love how the place has been decorated. Prices were very reasonable too. Will definitely be returning :)

I love steak!! Deal was, 2 rump steak and a bottle of wine for £25. Can pay £4 extra per person for sirloin ( or is that the other way around??) Anyway, asked for rare, exactly what I got and how i like it. It was lovely! Came with onion rings, not oversized. The most amazing thick chips in a side basket. Not piled high and filling the plate may I add. It was the perfect portion size. Portobello mushroom and a tomato, finished with a side salad and dressing. I was full and declined dessert... foolish move! My OH had the pie and custard and our friend had the cheesecake... the thickest cheesecake I'd ever seen and the pie...... You can tell so much care and love went in to these homemade desserts.. the table next to us had 2 others. I have no idea what they were though decided there and then, that I was definitely coming back even if it was just to eat the puddings. Service was great. Think the owners take pride in everything and play a very active role which is great to see..Taking/delivering food/ drinks orders and generally interacting with all who came though their doors. Laughing and joking. We spent a few hours here. Nothing was rushed and even though there was a big table for a birthday party, ( around 15) nothing was to much trouble. We had a wonderful time.

J. C.I frequent the Stag's head on a weekly basis for meals and to sample their excellent cask ales. I have taken business colleagues as well as friends and family for meals and all have truly enjoyed their experience.
The pub has a varied menu, something for everyone, and I find the food to be of the highest quality. You can tell that everything is made and prepared fresh that day. My personal favourite being the steak and stout pie, it is well worth making the trip for on its own.
There is always four cask ales on offer, that change regularly and they are always of a high standard, you can tell that the owners are Ale connoisseurs. The Landlord will often take the time to tell you a little about the beer and the brewery it was procured from.
The staff are always friendly and attentive, and really make you feel welcome, even the canine variety are welcomed into the porch area! The pub itself has a lovely country feel to it, with a log burner and sofas in the winter and outside seating for the summer.
The pub is a real gem in a quaint country setting, can't recommend it highly enough.

S. W.Just home from another lovely meal at Stag. We went last Sunday and although the pub was heaving the owner managed to squeeze us in and we did not have to wait very long for food. The Sunday menu is varied and something for everyone on there from traditional roasts to fish and chips. The staff are really friendly and attentive, and the pub itself has a lovely atmosphere. I had fish and chips tonight, my partner had roast pork with all the trimmings (wish I'd ordered it myself!). If you have room for pud there's a really good selection. Sticky toffee pudding with Ice cream, YUM! I've noticed a rubbish review on here from someone who also went last Sunday which I can't agree with at all. Would definitely recommend and will definitely be going back.
D. A.This pub reopened for business just over a year ago. At first I must say it got off to a stuttering start in terms of food quality. However, the last few months have seen definite improvement. The sandwiches are excellent and I recommend the pulled beef BBQ in particular. At £7 you'd be forgiven for frowning initially but it's well worth it. The general atmosphere in the place has picked up too perhaps consequently to other improvements.

Took a punt and went to the Stag awedk ago and learned that it was under new stewardship. Had to wait about 40mins for a table as we hadn't booked but the food was a major improvement on our last visit. They have a fantastic selection of drinks to choose from , the food menu is wonderful I have eaten numerous things as I try to order some thing different each time I visit ! I can highly recommend the Sunday lunches, the steaks are delicious, the burgers are delicious, on my latest visit I was told they had a new chef and the lovely waitress recommended stroganoff to me well good call as it was absolutely delicious one of the best I've ever tasted, I'm most deffinatley looking forward to my next visit !
