Stopped by to catch up with friends. Really nice, clean pub. The bathrooms, despite being worn down, were very well kept. Food was good. There are options for many different types of diets. Plenty of seating and standing areas. TVs located throughout. They also have some food challenges, if you're into that sort of thing.

Good service, staff are helpful and informative about the menu, prices are acceptable and the food is very good! Not always the best at getting a steak medium rare, but this boils down to whoever has cooked it more than the establishment itself. Good selection of drinks, including cocktails, local IPA's and your favourite beers amongst many more!

We had a lovely meal at the royal George this evening. The food was really delicious and arrived promptly. The staff were really amazing, and hard working, especially Hannah Restall who we are always happy to see. Nothing is ever too much for her and she is always cheerful and smiling. Very busy when we visited. The service was very slow waited over an hour for our meals. But the waitress offered us a round of free drinks or deserts. We couldn't praise her enough as she was running here there and everywhere and let us take our deserts home. She made the whole dining experience worthwhile.

On the day we visited, 6 of us, the pub had staffing issues. Although in all honesty this never affected us too badly. The food was lovely and hot and generally nice, with service being good. The Royal George is a Greene king pub, eating establishment, and is what it is.

Shared a lovely meal with one of my dearest friends last Wednesday on the 15th . The Hunters Chicken was beautiful lovely and moist. The chips were crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. My dessert was a Biscoff Cheesecake And Squirty Cream which was lovely too. I took a photo of my main this time and also the previous main course from another visit. This was Chick N Mix which consisted of 2 Chicken Schnitzels, Onion Rings And Fries plus A Sweet Chilli Dip. But I didn't get a photo of my dessert as I was enjoying it too much. I had the same dessert both times. The staff were really friendly and attentive great customer service. Lovely atmosphere to relax too.

Attended a funeral wake here yesterday and the whole experience was wonderful. Lovely food provided, separate area, very clean and super friendly staff. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a friendly place for any occasion.

We came about a month ago, trainee made a minor error with our order but the staff were quick to rectify this so we could eat at the same time & offered us deserts to compensate. Food was great, staff were lovely, will definitely be eating here again.

Food was good, took a little long to get to the table but it wasn't a huge problem. Only thing I would advise is to opt for the table service as opposed to using the app. Simple reason being that there was a problem when it came to paying. I first opted to pay on PayPal twice and the system said there was some sort of error both times, then tried a card payment twice and again it came up with an error. Anyway at some point I went to the till and they said it had come through but at this point we didn't know how many times we had paid for it. Eventually we figured it out but for a simpler transaction I'd recommend ordering and paying through staff. Atmosphere is always good here, staff are friendly and attentive. I recommend this place. 👌

Just nipped in for a quick lunch. The 2 of us ordered burgers (without buns), salad and chips, also an extra portion of lattice fries and 2 drinks. Burgers were amazing, salad fresh and the chips piping hot and crisp, not greasy. Didn't really need the extra fries as there was plenty on the plate but they too were delicious. Bill was about £18. Friendly staff, clean tables. Won't hesitate to go back.... Down to earth food done really well at a great price. Never alters, always reliable. Been 3 or 4 times now.

If you fancy a food challenge look no further. The Royal George is the place to go. Very good facilities for a pub, plenty of seating space. If arriving in a large group of 10+ expect to wait at least half hour for your food but it will be worth it as you will require some mental preparation for what your gut is going to endure. If you leave without loosening your belt by a notch you're doing it wrong.

Portions have improved and you now have table service which is nice as you used to have to queue at the bar to place your order and sometimes there was a long wait. - - Only bad thing is, we were told AFTER our meal that they weren't taking card payments and asked me to walk to the coop (630m round trip) , no jacket, in the cold. I had to buy something in coop to get cashback as there was no cashpoint like theyd told me in the george

Haven't been in a while never had a bad experience. But this most recent visit was amazing. You were seated by a member of staff, and they now have table service so no going upto the bar to order, didn't expect to find this in a pub. The menu was great the drinks were very well priced nearly all spirits and mixers were no more than £4. I had the mixed grill flaming challenge and wow that was a massive portion but not a ridiculous challenge you couldn't finish it. My parter had a chick'n'mix combo pick two chicken elements with your choice of sauce and two sides for 8.99 fantastic value. Will most certainly be heading back

Very expansive menu, very competitive pricing. Great value for money. The burger I had was reasonable but not amazing, didnt come with any sauce in it so quite dry, it was Thursday so was 2 for 1 on burgers and so very cheap but I have had a lot tastier burgers.

I organised my baby shower at Royal George as we always do events there with my husband's family. I reserved table and managed to increase the number on the last minute where everyone was really supportive. They let us decorate the table and area. Staff were amazing and was doing well with my chaotic guests! Food was delicious and the same as what we pre-ordered! There were some limitations on the menu but we were informed in advance so it was ok. All guests were super happy anyway. Staff was coming and making sure we are good, but also left us alone when we did cake to make sure we have some privacy! Couldn’t imagine better place for my Baby Shower!! Everyone was super nice and helpful and prices for food really low which made all my guests happy haha Hopefully next family event for me in December! 😊

Honest David's reviews. I love this place, nice and big, clean and friendly. A good example of how these pubs should be. Bar area with televisions showing sport. Restaurant area for families and a large outside eating/smoking area. Staff are great and friendly. Food is cheap and big helpings, including children's and vegetarian meals. Easy to get to with lots of parking. What more could you want,? A great ***** five stars from me

Just had a really nice meal at Royal George, its a pity the prices were inflated. It is clear the drink prices are inflated, although to charge for sauces onto of the meal prices is way out of order. Service is very good but be advised to check the price of everything you order at the table. These hidden extras certainly make a difference to the final bill. Should have realised there may be issues when we arrived and the place was empty

Came here for lunch today with my mum in memory of my late father's birthday on 14th Sept. I was totally impressed with how well the restaurant was run in accordance with covid.( I had been to another pub last week and was not impressed as no staff wore masks and everything didn't feel safe ). Hannah our waitress was an absolute delight, efficient, friendly and respectful. Table service was good and the food excellent value for money. Would definitely eat here again as I felt completely relaxed and safe , as i have a serious health condition and my mother is 80, so covid safety is very important to us both

Have been coming here for several years, as this probably had one of the best steak options, The double dipped ribeye steak. Took my mum here after lockdown as she has been dreaming of having this steak again. All to come and be disappointed that the menu had changed so much and the Double Dipped Ribeye is no longer available! What a shame! However knowing that this usually has really good food, we decided to order a loaded steak option....Well...this was quite the experience...It did not look appetizing, several key bits were missing from the meal, it was sooo tough, my jaw still hurts from chewing and definitely the prices have been inflated, however this is expected since the whole Covid ordeal...We ordered a sharer as a starter as well, which wasn't bad, however no sauces were brought out with neither of the meals, even though advertised with sauces on menu..Left quite disappointed with the meal, however the staff were friendly and service was fast. Just a shame it doesn't seem to be as good as it was anymore...BRING BACK THE DOUBLE DIPPED RIBEYE STEAK!

Mark and I went here Wednesday as he said it served good food and it definitely did let us down. Was greeted by Chelsea who seated us and got us a drink while we looked at the extensive menu. There was something for everybody including a vegan menu which is great for when I go back with my wife. Chelsea was really helpful and as I was unsure, helped me to decide to take on the Chicken Challenge. Mark had the Mixed Grill. Well the size of the grill was very good but mine? Mine was basically a silver serving tray covered with at least three types of chicken, chips, salad, corn cobs, sauces and toasted bread. No wonder it was a challenge and under £13!! I did my best and ate the chicken and cobs but it beat me. Mark loved the Mixed Grill. A fantastic meal with great company, a lovely server and at a price under £40 for three drinks two mains and two desserts. What a brilliant place. Will definitely go there again.

I've been coming here for several years now way before it was a Greene King. Always loved the food here. Went tonight for the first time since the restrictions etc and the spacing was fantastic. Scanning the QR code at the door was straight forward and the staff member serving our table immediately let us know of the rules after we were sat down. The XL mixed grill was fantastic. One of my friends I came with decided to have the Mexican burger challenge and made the mistake of saving the chilli until last which was a really entertaining 5 minutes of tears and red sweating face. The member of staff really enjoyed giving him a glass of milk.

I had Christmas lunch here the other day, it's a pleasant enough chain pub, if a bit cool. The service was a tad slow, but the staff were friendly enough and professional. The prawn 🦐 cocktail was a bit more lettuce than prawn unfortunately, but the Turkey roast more than made up for it. If you want a workmanlike 'do' this pub will probably satisfy your needs.

Had a 30th birthday party here, there was a lot of guests maybe 30+ in total kids and adults all the food was served at the same time and all nice and hot with not a single complaint! Really good service polite staff all with a sense of humour, really nice atmosphere too. A friendly and relaxed place, food was cooked really well and very tasty and big portions for very good value! In short, very good value for money great portion sizes so you'll definitely be full when you leave and excellent service in my experience, would definitely recommend for a nice meal.

Good Pub Grub. Despite being full and busy, the food was excellent and very affordable. I had chicken salad, which comprised of fragrant cracked buckwheat, fresh herbs, beans, salad leaf. We did wait a while as it was a very busy Sunday but had ordered nibbles, garlic mushrooms and waffled chips also excellent. Parking is tight when it's busy. Also ordered was a Chicken Sunday Roast, all very good and burger which was well presented, good beef and challenging to finish! A thumbs up to Royal George.

I am genuinely surprised at how much its improved food wise. here been twice now in last month and the food not only was well presented but was very nice they were busy both times but we were greeted by happy Hannah. and were told we might have a wait as it was busy which was fine as we weren't in that much of a hurry. the food was hot and tasty believe me if it wasn't i would say lol. had a good banter with our waitress Hannah i did observe her as a former publican i can tell you i would hire her in a heartbeat.she never stops very attentive to detail clears tables as quick as she prepares them and shes a smiler and that goes a long way in my book there is nothing worse then a miserable waitress or waiter but shes a credit to the George were back soon for xmas menu on the strength of these last two visits if i had one gripe was quality of the coffee other then that was great

The customer service is great and so is the food. Unfortunately I can't give 5 stars as the last time I've been the meals for pretty much my whole family weren't the best. All of the food on my plate was cold or luke warm at best, with the onion rings being pretty rubbery as well. My mother's and aunties food same problem, only my younger brothers food was quite hot but you could easily tell that it must've been done and had to of sat there for a few minutes, another thing was our starters the cheesy waffles with pulled pork/beef (can't remember exactly) they were the coldest item out of all of them and came with the food which kind of didn't work. Although this has happened I'll definitely will come again as I never had a problem before.

We went for a family meal on Boxing Day. Meals and drinks were all ordered in advance. The service, the food and drinks were all very good and we all had a great time. The only hiccup was that I had tried to book for 13:15 and they had phoned to ask if we could arrive at 14:00. Their message to me two days before confirmed the 14:00 meal. When we arrived just before 14:00, they had been expecting us at 13:15. It was no problem though. Great atmosphere, was very pleased.

Nothing that extra staff couldn't sort out. Staff friendly. Nice enough place but can't see myself heading back any time soon.

On this visit I heard three or four complaints 're cold meals, eggs not cooked as requested. My meal was fine. The mega 1 and 2kg meat meals should be consigned to the dustbin in this day and age as should the sugar laden excess desserts, 14 scoops of ice cream in a single dessert!

Salad and the chips had spoons to serve them with. (Like a game show task to try and pick those up with a spoon) Also found the cups put out for hot beverages had at least six to eight that had not been cleaned properly after previous use and still had brown stains around rim and bottom of cup. Haven't tried menu food so can't comment on that but as a venue on the whole very good.

The food is amazing. The staff especially our waitress was amazing the service was amazing and the evening was great made mostly by our waitress and service.... However the only thing stopping me from giving the full 5 stars is the disabled facilities. It is a narrow corridor to the toilets. There is one door for men's and one for ladies and disabled toilet. The corridor is not wide enough to give wheelchair users a turning circle to get in through the door located at the bottom of the corridor. When I eventually forced my chair through by taking the legs off the toilet was occupied by new parents changing their child. I couldn't sit and wait till it was free because I was then blocking entry and egress to female toilet. I couldn't sit in corridor and wait because it was so small people could not get passed me. Once in the toilet there was absolutely no turning circle to get back out as the door protruded too far into the room and the disabled toilet was way too small. I then had to try and reverse back out of the toilet which was extremely difficult as the doors opened inwards and I was behind the door trying to reach round to pull it towards me as well as trying to get my wheelchair round it. Once out the door I had to wheel myself backwards all the way down the corridor and back to the restaurant as the corridor was way to small to turn in. The only other option would have been to wheel myself all the way down to the toilet backwards and force the door open with the back of my chair. Again people coming and going couldn't get passed me in the corridor. The facilities are the only thing that would stop me going back. Absolutely fine for able bodied people though. Apart from the toilet facilities I would have given 5 stars

Been coming here for a while now and still cannot understand how a place that has steaks on the menu cannot cook them correctly. The pub has had a makeover recently which is definitely welcome but my family and I keep hoping that just once a steak can be cooked correctly without having to think about sending it back or actually sending it back. When you order steaks, medium rare, and you keep getting them well done, every single time you go there, it gets to be a little tedious and annoying. Some of the other food is quite good and happily edible so you have some choice. Hoping that with the change, they'll get better at their steaks too. Will keep trying and hoping for the best.

The food in this place has gone down hill massively! I know it's cheap pub grub but I still expect to be able to cut a piece of steak and eat it, the steak was inedible, it was supposed to be medium rare but was well done, I could of accepted the fact it was well done, but the fact it was mainly fat and gristle made it so I could literally not even cut a piece off even with a steak knife!! The chicken was awful too, no flavour, stringy and fatty! Absolutely dreadful! Such a shame as I've been here many times and it's always been ok. Never again unfortunately.

Went for a meal there with my family of six people. Most tables as we walked in needed cleaning and there were empty glasses everywhere, we eventually found a table and cleaned it ourselves putting the empty glasses on other tables. Ordered our meals and they came in a reasonable time. I was disappointed that we were at a flaming grill and received our food on a plate instead of flaming grill, the food was nice enough and hot at the beginning however by the time I got to my steak it was getting cold without the hot grill. Flies were a menace too constantly swiping them away. We visited the Punch & Judy pub recently which is a sister pub and food came out on sizzling grill with no flies. Although the pub was busy when we arrived it was empty by the time we left, the food was nice enough but the experience wasn't great...

We were given room 101 (no pun intended).It was very dark and dingy the bathroom was very tired. It had no roll top bath or canopy bed. We ask to move and the staff gave us room 209. This is a standard room not an executive.No refund was offered Although the reception staff were very pleasant this was not what we had paid for. Other then this the staff were excellent and we had a very nice stay. The hotel is centrally located and the town was lovely to walk around .

I went to the Royal George for the very first time on the 26th Feb 2014 with two other people we were shown a table straight away by Mandy who was very helpful, we ordered our meal which was very nice indeed it was hot and just as ordered, we had just finished our meal when the duty manager came across and introduced herself to us her name is Sandra who was originally from Northampton she was very nice she had a nice personallity and easy to talk to she asked if everything was ok with our meal we replied yes it was very nice thank you and she also gave us a bit of history about herself as she was once a chef. It was a very busy night due to guests arriving as there was a Clairvoyants meeting going on even so all the staff were polite not just the ones serving our meal but also when we went to the bar we were greeted with a smile and politeness. The evening started at 6pm when we ordered our meal and then the clairvoyants came on at 8pm which gave us enough time inbetween to book our seats for the clairvoyant meeting then sit and enjoy our meal and we were able to digest our meal before sitting at the meeting. We all agreed we would definietly go there again very soon it was a lovely experience. Thank you for a lovely evening Sandra

Food is ok, what you expect from most pubs. Atmosphere is usually good, loud but not loud enough so you can't talk at a normal level.
