Reviews of The Woolpack
S. S.
One of our favourite pubs. We love the cosy inside seating more, but the outside seating is also great. They have a nice backyard seating too. Friendly staff. We also love the food here. The fish platter and the loaded nachos our favourites. The Scotch eggs, though not with runny yolks, were decent.

Such a relaxing place and helpful staff. The pub is in a great location for a peaceful visit, there are plenty seats available outside with large umbrellas (it started to rain while dining and did not get wet because of them)
There is not enough words allowed here to praise the food. The fish was exquisite, so beautifully done. Desserts were authentic with well balanced flavours. As starter we ordered prawns and bruschetta, they tasted super yummy with fresh ingredients.

What a fantastic place!!! Went for breakfast with my partner and his family. My first time there as we were visiting.
Staff were so amazing and helpful. The breakfast was wonderful and reasonably priced. A huge fan!! I will be going back when we visit them again. 👍🏾

Possibly the best, bar scotch eggs in Suffolk never mind ipswich.
Different bar areas with slightly different vibes.
Good selection of drinks, board games and books, something for evegry one.
J. L.
Nice little pub! Food was pretty good, dog friendly outside in the front seating area. Seemed to have a pizza hut outside the back for different events etc. Would reccomend

Well done woolpack, a little confusing on entering via the Car park. After a friendly happy welcoming member of staff directed us to the bar, We ordered a first class breakfasts. Which arrived hot plentiful and very wholesome, do not forget to order ciabatta toast and jam.

A fantastic and amazing stay with awesome staff too. Loved the while experience, especially the gorge walk in late November!

Great pub near Christchurch park in Ipswich. Fantastic food menu and a good selection of beers and ales on tap. The staff are always friendly and welcoming and the homemade sausage rolls are incredible. Great outdoor seating area.
C. H.
Nice , old pub with plenty of outside seating , food is good especially the pizza stall.. staff are very friendly.
R. D.
Great, friendly pub. Now doing more specials so greater choice. Had the plaice that was well cooked and a generous portion. Good drink selection. Staff friendly and have been great at adapting during Covid times while providing important links with the community. Always a good atmosphere.
P. G.
Great cosy, dog friendly pub.close to to Christchurch Park, and in a nicer part of central Ipswich. Lovely staff, great food...especially he Sunday roast options!
L. H.
Great pub and atmosphere, but the service was very slow
A. W.
Had a meal sitting outside due to the Covid restrictions.
Meal was fairly good and a nice pint of Ghost Ship.
Staff very professional and friendly.
Service was good.
One mistake on the order but was rectified as quickly as possible.
I would visit again without hesitation.
L. C. D.
Best pub in Ipswich! Dog friendly, nice staff and a great selection of food and drinks. Feels like a proper country pub but in a central location
G. S.
Had a super Veggie & full English Breakfast here on Sunday. Everything was delicious. My daughter also ordered avocado on toast, not on the menu but they happily obliged! Good service always with a smile. Highly recommended.
J. M.
Really enjoyed the woolpack, nice traditional pub, lovely staff 👍
A. S.
A pub with plenty of character, good food a reasonable choice of real ale.
Y. Y.
Nice pub with nice food. Friendly staff
J. W.
Lovely pub ideally situated beside Christchurch park. Really friendly service, nice wine, good food (forgot to take pictures!), and they’re incredibly dog friendly. We’re not from Ipswich, but if we were this would be our local 👍🏼
T. A.
Always liked this pub but now with more outside seating at the back it's even better. Food always good too and staff very friendly.
J. Y.

Very nice terrace to have a couple of drinks. Friendly staff and tasty chicken burger.
F. C.
Scrumptious breakfast served by friendly staff.
Have been several times before, (pre covid) and will certainly be going again in the future. Keep up the good work!
A. W.
We had absolutely delightful meals last night. The beef bourginon was superb and the chicken roast too. Large portions btw!!! Such a treat🙂
J. O.
Lovely friendly staff great pub
E. O. J.
Lovely staff and great atmosphere. Food was delicious and cooked in fantastic time.
J. B.
Excellent real local pub with good food at reasonable prices. Child friendly, dog friendly and staff too are cheerful helpful and welcoming. Seating in three areas inside and an area outside too. Christchurch Park awaits you after or before your meal. Just moved down the road. Delighted to call this our local. Try it you won't be disappointed.
A. H.
Really good Sunday roast and amazing bread pudding 😍
N. B.
Lovely food staff friendly nice birthday afternoon just only minor thing is on quite a busy road but nice
G. H.
Had a good flavoursome Sunday roast, very good quality, and the staff were really nice, however I have only given it 4 stars due to the lack of quantity. I don't expect a massive meal, but I feel it was a bit light... They didi say they were running out though so I won't complain. I will be back again soon and if the next meal we have includes more, I will upgrade my rating.
D. C.
Vanessa could not have been more helpful. We went with our friends and their severely disabled son.from getting him down the steps to the table and sorting out special requirements for his food nothing was to much trouble for her. The food was lovely. I can recommend the steak and ale pie it was so tender well done chef,😊👍
C. C.
When I manage to get a Sunday off this is our go to place for Sunday lunch. Make sure you go early if you are driving as the car park has about 6 or 7 spaces. Roast dinners are excellent, and one of the few that offer lamb, which I usually have. All of the sides are great, but the best thing on there is their cauliflower cheese. Even though the meat is always lovely, the cauli cheese is the last bite and at some point I'm going to just have a massive plate of that! Cheeseboard is the best I've seen in the area, just make sure you are sharing it with at least one other or ordering it as your main meal! Not had the homemade sausage rolls or scotch eggs yet, but they look amazing. Great choice of beer and wine for my folks, and a friendly set of staff always. Highly recommended.
R. O.
Great atmosphere, staff, food, being coming here since 1968
J. L.
Village pub vibes in a built up area. Lovely, cosy and welcoming. The staff are always extremely nice and helpful and up for a chat. Be sure to check out the food because you can a wide range of top quality dishes.
P. K.
Called her for drinks on a warmish afternoon. Staff were very helpful and attentive. Fast service. Range of ales so there should be something for everyone. Also a fair range of spirit and soft drinks. I'll probably go there again when in Ipswich.
R.
Friendliest and most accommodating staff ever. Brilliant grub great atmosphere. Not many places where you can take you 15 year old daughter and she enjoys it and feels comfortable. She loves it. She has a particular liking to the young man serving been a few times now his a great character as are all of them.Me and my daughter have now made this our go to place for our little dinner dates.
Can't fault it one bit. And they knocked up our dinner double quick as I mentioned we had a appointment.
Thanks guys I'm sure I will be seeing alot more of you the future.
P. O.
Great beer, exceptional nachos. Sunday brunch very tasty.
E. L.
Lovely pub, always the friendliest service! Lovely food and caters for vegans and vegetarians. Only downsides are menu is not particularly varied for special diets and the pub is often so busy it's difficult to get served or find somewhere to sit! I have a dog and this a dog friendly pub next to a a park which is lovely
R. R.
What a lovely little pub. I have visited this place many times in the past after a lovely summer day in the park followed by a refreshing pint in the pub but it's just as perfect in the winter, a small and cosy little bar area and lots of lovely drinks available. The staff here are great and very helpful. The only downfall is that the pub is basically on an island between to roads that can get rather busy so when you are sitting outside it can be a bit distracting, however this doesn't take anything away from the pub its self. I highly recommend, especially after a lovely stroll in the park.
D. B.
Quick drink this evening with our puppy, Evie. Very dog friendly pub with a lovely atmosphere. Always a good drink selection with guest ales and great wine choices. Food looks amazing.
K. H.
Called in here for a beer whilst waiting for my wife to finish work. Really glad I did. A really old atmospheric public house with a really warm welcome from the staff.
Have not eaten here yet, but looking at the food being served to other patrons it certainly looks really good.
I've heard they're also rated really highly for their breakfasts in the Ipswich area. I will certainly be a more regular visitor now my wife works just up the road!
R. D.
Loved it! Was my first time there. Food and drinks were great, service was excellent. Special highlight for me was, serving finger bowls with prawns, not many places do that! Definitely recommend it 👌
B. M. C.
Great food. Pet friendly!
M. P.
Friendly staff, very good quality food,
R.
Little eclectic pub with very friendly staff and decent prices. Perfect balance between too local and too commercial. Small bunch of tables outside, great for a drink or two.
j.
Recomend Antonio and his great
Pizza . Best in this area by a long shot .
S. S.
Great pub and great food
G. J.
A lovely cosy pub just outside the main hustle and bustle of the main town centre of Ipswich. It has lovely little snugs, the food is excellent and the staff are very friendly and welcoming.
We often frequent this hostelry after parkrun when we use Christchurch Park during the winter period, either when we process the results or some of us use this for our breakfast club.
a. w.
I'm new to area but I find if I'm alone or with my wife the welcome is amazing.. Food is so home cooked you will not believe it.. Beer and spirits amazing.. All local real ales and a worldly range of lagers . If you love a traditional welcoming pub it's for you... Dogs welcome front bars.. Vaping OK in areas . Clean but traditional all round experience. Please try it .... I'm the guy with the obvious tattoos .
T. D.
One of my favourite pubs in Ipswich and actually anywhere. They've really got it right - a good selection of cask ales, but no attempt to carry anything silly like 15 different ones. Tasty pub grub, with occasional forays into real culinary excellence and roasts on Sundays. A pleasant atmosphere with great staff. Plus, apart from the odd Six Nations Rugby match, there's NO TV!
R. O.
This was our first visit as we were in Ipswich and follow this pub on Twitter.
This pub was everything we love and more. Efficient staff, lovely atmosphere and good beer and food. It’s an honest down to earth place with a great group of locals who clearly love the place. It’s a proper pub that serves a bit of food rather than some trendy gastro nasty trying to be something they think people want from a pub. Well done everyone, take a pat on the back. We will return and we will tell all our friends so if they visit Ipswich, they drop in to see you.
C. W.
Always a nice place to go even if you have to sit outside. They've not gone down the craft beer route which is why I don't go there much but they serve a cracking pint of Adnams.
D. B. F. D.
Lovely little local pub with a nice atmosphere and in a nice part of town.
T. S.
Good menu range and portions usually a decent size. Real ales and a real pub great pluses. Popularity can mean lots of noise precluding quiet chats on some evenings.
D. C.
Great service and food. Only suggestion is to have some heat out doors. Overall great experience
K. L.
Beautiful place and great atmosphere. Food was out of this world was not expecting this at all for a local pub. Will be visiting here regularly.

Very friendly atmosphere. Went in following funeral for food and drink supplied by Woolpack. It was nicely presented and tasted lovely. A big well done to all staff.
T. N.
Great little pub and good food
E. H.
Went in here for the first time the other week. Very friendly staff. Nice atmosphere and surroundings. The home made scotch eggs looked really good. Will definitely be going in here again.
S. G. A.
Lovely pub with very friendly staff and a good atmosphere. But from this vegan's POV (who lives 30 seconds away) the menu offers almost nothing for vegan families like mine. What they sometimes offer is `'We can leave out the cheese/cream etc" but without also saying "and add vegan versions for you". I know it's challenging for food outlets to cater for every diet, but those that aren't niche steak houses or vegan sushi vars may find doing so gives them a competitive advantage. And, there are only so many times that we want to eat the veggie/vegan option of a chick pea or sweet potato themed dish which seems to be the standard choices offered these days (unless it's an authentically prepared and cooked falafel wrap - now THAT would be good).
M. G.
A very unusual pub with3 separate bars all with their own external entrance. The excellent beer was served by a lovely young lady who clearly understands the beer.
E. K.
Having driven past this charming looking pub many times but never venturing in, it was meant to be when groupon offered a breakfast deal there.
My wife and I got there as they opened at 09.30 and were greeted warmly by the Landlord. We told him we were redeeming the groupon voucher and he explained that it entitled us to the full English breakfast. We ordered two. The hot chocolate my wife ordered was presented beautifully and tasted superb, she even got a top up.
Our breakfasts arrived swiftly and looked splendid. The ingredients seemed high quality and were cooked perfectly. We couldn't fault anything and thoroughly enjoyed everything.
The pub itself is really charming whilst being inviting and clean. When summer rolls round this year after a day enjoying Christchurch park ( which is opposite ) a drink on the way home at this family friendly pub is to be looked forward to.
V. C.
Lovely staff, great food, gluten free options on menu, brilliant drinks, fantastic atmosphere.
J. B.
Great local pub, which I've visited over 10 times now when visiting a friend. Menu has a great selection and good portion sizes. Very laid back and welcoming environment.
J. J.
Really very friendly staff here. And boy the English breakfast is devine. It's the first time I've completed the black pudding component of this staple morning regime. Really delicious, and intend to make this a regular part of my Saturday.
A. P.
Wow, just had one of their Sunday roast and it was absolutely delicious! Also pinched some of the kids fish and chips which was also very nice 👌
B.
Love going to the Woolpack for breakfast. The staff are lovely and the food is as good a breakfast as you are going to get. Christchurch Park is next door to visit Mabel the owl. Perfect Sunday morning.
A. F.
Great pub that has adapted well to the current Covid requirements. Staff all extremely professional, and the pub is clean and welcoming.
J. H.
Just had a takeaway, which was really tasty. Can highly recommend the potato and halloumi bake, delicious!! We look forward to the pub reopening. 😬
B. B.
Ace pub that went the extra mile.... service was fine and they were really friendly and nice.... well worth a visit.... the breakfast was good and the beer was available after 11.00 a.m.... if I am in town again I will go there again..... top banana 😊😊😊
S. S.
Superb food and friendly staff. Must go especially when the weather is good and sit outside. Lovely atmosphere
G. H.
Great food and friendly staff superbly well kept beer and a great pub atmosphere such as we nostalgically think of as the good old boozers. Highly recommended
L. H.
You can't go wrong with this place. Warm atmosphere, friendly staff, sufficient beer garden. Close proximity to park, child friendly, dog friendly. Selection of books and board games. A hood selection of drinks and good food. You really need to visit here.
P. A.
Full of character, with friendly staff, and parking. The leek and potato soup was excellent. More vegetarian options on the menu would earn it another star from me.
S. “. P.
Two years ago this would have been 4 stars but quality has dropped. Beer served in a warm glass? Three people chatting behind the bar when people are waiting? Tap lager selection was restricted due to empty barrel. The Woolpack used to be better.
A. M.
I really like the woolpack and gave it 5 stars before I stopped eating meat. I still enjoy coming here but I really struggle to find anything to eat now because I don't particularly enjoy the Thai burger and I can't add cheeses because that would throw the flavour off. I really would love it if they brought back the Halloumi burger! It was better than a beef burger!
G. M.
Great food - had the gammon and wife had the burger. Reasonably priced. Great service. Dog friendly. Can't complain one bit. 5/5
D. E.
The food is lovely. Staff are very friendly with excellent and fast service. A nice place to eat and meet up with others, the atmosphere inside is always great.

A proper nice old fashioned boozer. I love this place. All very friendly, the food and beer are great. There are also some of the most amazing bar snacks available (homemade sausage rolls etc). There are fires in the winter and a lovely outdoor area in the summer.

What a lovely pub. Great atmosphere. Great service. Really friendly. Would definitely recommend.

Was here for fathers day, not a place to go with young children under the age of 4 and a puppy as it was pure carnage. Space being the main issue. We did get a table but it felt like you were constantly having to check if someone wanted to get past you. The celeriac soup was devine, the lamb roast was a bit underwhelming if I'm honest, pricey too. Wouldn't be rushing back any time soon.

H. J.
Best pub around here. Good beer and food. Still a local but with lots of extras eg games, child friendly. No TV, no Juke Box.
S. D.
Sandwiches would have been much better if made with normal bread instead of doorstop slices served on silly little plates! Good beer and brill mack pate.
J. C.
Lovely Pub to visit. Very good on the current Covid safety requirements
