The Social is an outpost of the Brudenell Social Club, Leeds's most important music venue and retains something of the atmosphere of its parent establishment. Last time I was there the playlist included tracks by the Modern Lovers, Sonic Youth, and the Velvet Underground. The bar is large and airy, the tables well spaced out and there is a beer garden at the rear. Furnishings and decor are minimalist. Ordering was via an app and drinks were delivered to the table. Along with staples such as lager and cider, Kirkstall Brewery's Virtuous IPA was on tap at a reasonable price and there was a good selection of bottles and cans for those with particular tastes. Personally, I feel more comfortable here than in most bars in the city centre, but I guess it would be easy to feel out of place if you never had any inclinations towards punk rock.

Staff were friendly and selection was alright. Took a while to get our drinks and having glass work done on a Friday evening was a weird choice and a complete atmosphere killer.

Fantastic place with great atmosphere and selection of beers. Staff was nice enough to keep my drunken friend's shopping bag until he came to his senses and collect them half an hour later. 10/10 would get drunk there again.

Great beer selection. Foosball table is free if you leave a card behind the bar, which is frankly fantastic. Nice big beer garden out back. Overall a great place for an evening drink.

Dismal afternoon turned sunny: There's a very comfortable feel here. A warm, genuine, welcome is a great thing in the heart of this Northern city. I had an exceptionally good hot toddy to start. The rest of the drinks were very well put together too. The hospitality was unrivalled. I freely admit to being a difficult customer, so to leave charmed, is quite special. The range, quality and service are all really, very good.

Cheap, quality craft beer selection. Gets really busy on the weekend but good for sitting and drinking in groups. Beer garden is big and has loads of seating in the summer. They also do reasonable, simple cocktails.

Stopped at the Social Bar in Leeds recently on a Saturday night and it was busy, bust still spaced out. Drinks were reasonable priced and there was a good atmosphere in the bar. Would return to the Social Bar again when visiting Leeds.

You can't go wrong with the social. It always has great beer and ales on tap and they are reasonably priced too. The beer garden is great for when it's a little warmer and it's often my go-to when in town.

The beer is pretty good, but there's better places in Leeds. Very quiet inside so if you don't like crowds it's a good place for you. This is our go-to place if our favourites are too busy.

Great beer bar at the top end of Merrion street. Run by the same people as the famous Brudenell Social Club. Less noisy and boisterous than the clutch of bars further sown the street Social has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and reasonably priced drinks. Perfect place to stop by for a glass of porter and a game of scrabble.

Nice little bar off Merrion street. Doesn't make a fuss and why should it? It's chilled out atmosphere teamed with an ever changing line up of old and new beers is enough to keep anyone around for one more. They have a big garden in the back for summer sippin' and the music inside is never overly offensive and loud.

Went on a thursday night, seemed like the IT Crowd's pub - which is OK for me. But missing a certain something. Everyone had beards, even some of the ladies. Was OK for one and talking, not too loud etc. Staff were pleasant and friendly.

Great range of beers (craft as well as regular) without the pretense, reasonably priced, table football and usually a food option available (no menu - just what's on that day, e.g. a pie or a stew). Good sized outdoor space which whilst not having great views does catch the sun. Best bit is no Tv which means you have to actually talk to people here :)

Good little bar, although seating was difficult to find, but we found a spot at the side of the bar. Vast array of drinks to pick from, from your ales and beers to your cocktails. They do allow groups, but you do need to behave yourself. One group was egging someone in their group to down a pint and the barman/security (cant remember which) asked them to keep it down. I'll leave it to you whether or not that's good or bad, but given the place you're in, it's probably not suited for lairy behaviour, go somewhere else if that's how you see your night going

Social bar is a nice place to go for a drink that doesn't try to hard. Good beer not too expensive and a foosball table. Great place to start your 4th or 5th date for that special man or woman in your life.

Personally I don't know what the fuss is all about the drinks seem very expensive compared to other places the beer gardens ok I guess but I don't think it's anything special to be honest especially considering the prices of the drinks and the really good and much better bars that are nearby such as mean eyed cat
