Reviews of The Abbey Inn
C. G.
Amazing little find great location, amazing staff. The chef was so nice to make the kids some chicken nuggets from scratch. the atmosphere was perfect after a family walk we will be back again. The drinks on offer are fairly priced and and the food was amazing burgers are to die for. Thanks to the abbey inn
T. F.
A very busy and popular pub, over 2 levels with a bar at street level and another on lower ground floor accessed via the car park and beer garden.
During our visit the cricket had been abandoned due to heavy rain so an influx of customers but the staff seemed to cope really well.
My husband was disappointed that no guiness served but there were a couple of stouts he tried instead, one good and one band, this was exchanged without a quibble. A huge range of beers on offer which pleased all our group.
G. S. (.
Friendly, good prices and good ale. Loads of outdoor seating, can get full quickly. Ale was excellent, staff offered ale testers when I was unsure which was very kind👍 . Next time will sample the food and maybe hit a few more of those beers and ales ! An excellent local pub.
E. G.
Great outside space, sadly we didnt get any roasts because apparently you have to call and book in advance, so next time, just wish they had some more snacks on offer not just chips and baguettes.
C. T.
Popped in as in the area. Not been in for years. Same as and a good selection of ales etc. Still the same smell we were accustomed to from years ago.
D. J.
Another visit to the beer festival today. It was the third day and there was a limited choice left, however, this shows its popularity . Friendly staff and great music
T. F.
Great pub, always a warm welcome, well kept beer, pleasant environment
S. L.
Love this place. Decent beer, off the beaten track, nice, welcoming atmosphere.
J. B.
Nice little pub, tucked away down near the canal.
Nice selection of beer and ale with friendly staff.
And according to some ghost hunters I once saw there, one of the most haunted pubs in Yorkshire
D. w.
Nice dog friendly pub by the canal. Nice outside area.a but dark inside but think thays the character of the pub. Good for food. Can get very busy as only a small pub. Really friendly staff, very welcoming.
K. C.
Visited my daughter in Leeds. Walked along the canal and stopped here for a well earned drink. Sat in the beer garden with my dog. Good afternoon
T. D.
A touch of country pub flavour in Leeds!
Friendly staff, great drinks, local ales, regular quizzes, music, and games nights with the added bonus of a pool table! <3
H. H.
I specifically came here for lunch because I enjoyed my last lunch here. Again I was very impressed. I had the smashed burger which didn't disappoint. The burger was juicy and delicious (I added blue cheese and onion rings) the onion rings were fresh, the batter was crisp, the chips crunchy on the outside and fluffy inside and the fresh slaw was tasty and lightly dressed.
The chef obviously cooks with passion and with an attention to detail not only in taste and with flavour combinations but also with the presentation.
E. G.
Very nice old school pub. Great for a pit stop during a canal walk.
B. B.
Great beers and welcome watering hole to stop and have a drink after a good walk on the canal.
N. M.
Have visited this pub for many years always great beer and atmosphere!
S. M.
been here quite a few times over the years and the food just gets better and better went yesterday with the wife for a quiet pint in the cozyness if this place and i ordered the steak and ale pie which was thee best pie ive ever eaten, the pastry was thin and not clumpy and soggy it was delicious and full of steak and gravy how a pie should be and the wufe had gourmet burger and she ate the lot (can be fussy aswell) but the food here is great if you want a nice meal and pint after a walk up the canal drop in here you wont be dissapointed.
well done guys
I. H.
Lovely pub, bar staff very friendly, and when a gig on, its amazing
J. R.
Friendly staff. Nice outdoor area. Situated in a lovely place
M. H.
Fantastic little pub just out of the way and relaxing. Cannal is just at side so can cut off for a walk
D. J.
Lovely place to relax and have a nice cold pint and service with a smile.
D. R.
Great time at the beer festival. Very well organised, great bands too
M. M.
Beautiful day so we walked to the Abbey and sat outside in the shade. We had drinks and a baguette with chips each. Ordering is backed the bar but the food was brought to us in card trays and wooden forks- all disposable . The pub still has its perspex screen at the bar and the staff all wore masks so we felt very safe. Hand sanitiser was freely available. The drinks were lovely and the cold and the food very tasty, hot and lots of it! Well done Abbey, we shall be back
S. A.
We were blowing up our inflatable kayak by the canal and realized we had a puncture, went to the pub to see if they could help and gave up a roll of parcel tape, amazing staff.
A. E.
Great day out good atmosphere can't beat live music sunshine and real ale
S.
Dead fly in drink but still drank it. Good pla e good local area
D. H.
Lovely piece but could really do with the very outdoor sound system
D. B.
A lovely pub with friendly staff and clientele.
V. H.
A friendly welcome, dog friendly and nice food. Have some nice vegetarian options as well.
M. K.
Nice little pub, selection of good real ales. Didnt have a meal so cant comment on the food. Good location by the Leeds Liverpool Canal.
K. D.
Only dropped in gorva quick drink but will be returning for a meal at a later date as the meals served to people across the day looked delicious. The pint of Three Swords I had was in tip top condition, as was my wife's glass of Somersby cider. Both were welcome refreshment on our canal walk.
M. “. G.
Nice little pub with friendly locals.
Good selection of Drinks and snacks
Outdoor seating available and very clean toilet facilities.
Staff a wonderful
S. C.
A lovely pub in a lovely area but....I had booked a table for 2 but the pub didn’t have us on the list. We did get seated on kegs and a little table but they weren’t very comfortable. We waited an age for our first drinks to arrive so decided to order our 2nd round straight away. These drinks never arrived so we had to try and get a member of staff’s attention which was hard as they were clearly over stretched and rushing about. Eventually we did get our 2nd drinks, with a big apology. Not a great experience so I felt it important to give feedback so improvements can hopefully be made. Other pubs are using Apps such as Your Round which offers a much, much better ordering system and frees up staff’s time I’m surprised not all pubs have adopted such a system.
N. M.
Lovely cosy pub, plenty of space outside
P. F.
An absolutely lovely pint of Guinness
Well worth the hour & half walk along the canal out of Leeds.
But maybe next time I'll catch the train to Kirkstall forge less than a 10 minutes walk away.
G. B.
Always love visiting this pub. Great selection of beers, great staff and comfortable environment.
J. D.
Great staff and gorgeous food
L. W.
Comfortable pub in a nice location. Has a varied and changing range of local cask ales and reasonable pub grub. Used to be a good place for beer enthusiasts but I noted today no offer to top up our drinks and water tap in Gents loo u/s, so I'm a bit worried the management is not so efficient as it used to be. Still a very pleasa nt place to visit winter or summer and rightly popular on New Years Day.
D. H.
Very cosy, pleasant and affordable. Feels like a friendly and traditional pub. Sunday lunch look great.
p. s.
Very nice. Clean and well presented. The staff were lovely and the coffee was a nice big one freshly made.
P. F.
Always wide selection of good beers, great food, relaxed atmosphere and quality pub.
Popular stop for a walk down the canal, dog friendly and outside seating which is busy all summer.
Annual beer festival is worth a visit, regular quiz and event nights.
m. B.
Nice atmosphere very cosy, food was all nice fresh, cooked perfect nice food, great prices, service was nice very friendly staff.nice for Christmas drinks mulled wine available 😀
J. S.
Lovely little pub good beers nice staff
A. A.
Lovely quaint little pub, popular with walkers and locals alike.
Plenty of guest ales, can be a little cramped inside at busier times but outdoor seating is available too.
The music festival and Halloween are always a firm favourite at the Abbey Inn and the atmosphere is electric.
Most definitely worth a visit and keep your eye out for live attractions and events.
P. S.
Cosy, great place to chat & enjoy a nice drink. Close to water , fishing nearby Is good...be legal though. Easy access by car or close to walking over the original iron bridge. Walkers & young folk welcome, enjoy & feel the nearby country side.
Nice staff.
K. C.
Nice and friendly and a lovely jar of easy rider.. 👍👍
L.
Sunday baguettes are banging, nice selection, no pub weirdo types, jukebox, and a few ghosts 5/5
D. c.
Good beer and friendly people.
B. B.
Being half way on a 10 mile round walk,we popped here for a quick thirst quencher/loo break, only to find it was bookings only(Friday lunchtime)
However, mein host agreed to let us in so long as it was a quick one. Thank you sir, very good of you under the circumstances
S. O.
The Abbey Inn was well set up around Covid requirements, staff were warm and friendly, beer was very good as always. A lovely local pub
J. H.
Lovely pub with great ales very friendly locals and staff.
In a great setting with a huge outdoor beer garden.
Very close to a lovely walk along the canal up to kirkstall Abbey. Will definitely visit again.
C. A.
Bit disappointed that on the first Friday After lockdown we could not get served at 9.25. I suppose fair enough that they can choose opening times but we were not notified of 'last orders'. Annoyingly when we walked home we went past 2 other pubs that were still open.
S. G.
Outstanding service every time I come to this lovely little local. Always putting 100% effort into everything they do with events every day of the week. The beer festival with local bands is an absolute must. Cold beer, warm welcome.
K. S.
Nice pub near the canal path, very polite staff and nice beers. Dog and child friendly. Beers a bit more expensive that you would expect in a location like this, but i do recommend poping in for a swift pint and some chips.
L. C.
Great local pub. Dog friendly. Guest ales. Friendly staff.
m. k.
Great little independent pub, squeezed between the canal at Newley and the river. Awkward to access by car, which many would say is a good thing if you are walking, cycling or riding (all of which you can do nearby.) Occasional music and other events. Interesting choice of real ales, whiskies etc.
G. S.
This is a good local pub with a cracking selection of real ales and ciders. In a good location to break a walk along the canal, and plenty of outside seating on a sunny day. They also run well organised events on a regular basis. Well worth a visit.
m. t.
Very friendly welcome great ales
K. G.
Lovely lively place. Quirky and traditional inside. Lovely pub food. Great setting by canal.
S. B.
Nice little pub on the canal. Good prices. Not tried the food but I see plenty of folk enjoying it. Only problem is, it's a bit out of the way but if you're enjoying a walk along the canal, call in.
R. P.
Proper little olde worlde pub, reminds me of the kind of place you stumble upon in the depths of Cornwall. Ale choice is excellent, friendly and welcoming to families, and the Beer Festival is ace.
J. T.
We asked permission to eat our sandwiches outside the Abbey pub during a very wet walk with#open country. The bar staff allowed us inside which was really kind of them.We ordered coffee's which went down very nicely even better at £2each.Thanks for letting us enjoy our lunch in the warmth & keeping dry. Some of our group had a game of pool, other bar games were on offer. The toilets were nice &clean,a great traditional pub with plenty of outside seating.I think food is served at the weekend.
S. R.
Good range of well kept beers. Excellent atmosphere and welcome in traditional surroundings. Family and dog friendly.

L. W.
Nice friendlypub with great food and great beers. Excellent outdoor area.
D. T.
Lovely, traditional 'gimmick free' pub settled in between Horsforth, Bramley, Rodley area.
Its out of the way which means it has a select clientelle - but clearly a firm favourite as it is always busy despite is secluded location. It is next to the canal so gets a lot of by passer trade in sunny weekends, plus a regular stop for cyclists to refresh themsleves at.
It has excelelnt music nights and beer festivals. It is definately a real ale pub serving never any fewer than 5 guest ales - mostly from local breweries - Kirkstall, Leeds Brewery, Ridgeside, Wharfebank, Ilkely and Osset are the most commonly found ones.
Folk nights on tuesdays, quiz nights, live music on fridays... a good friendly social pub.
yes it is shabby and rough round the edges, but thats part of its charm!
One of my favourites - long may it continue.
I. P.
Low ceilinged old Inn at the end of a no through road for motor vehicles. Handy for the canal and Bramley Fall Woods. Very good range of real ales. Dog friendly. Large undercover out door seating area plus picnic tables in the open. Pool table. Short walk from the new station at Kirkstall Forge.
S. U.
