Reviews of The Bingley Arms

Really nice pub in the village. Staff are friendly and the beer garden is great.
The food was really nice and enjoyed. The steak and ale pie was such a big portion, was stuffed! It was very nice.
They don't publicise it well, but the pub is dog friendly in the tap room (left door) and beer garden.

Wonderful atmosphere with great food. We made a special trip to this pub because it's the oldest in England. It did not disappoint! The staff even went out of their way to show us all the historical features.... Priest holes, tunnels ect.
Clean and covid safe, we highly recommend a stop in.
R. K.
I really liked the menu and atmosphere, I wasn't really happy about our table for 2 which was like being in the corridor between the main rooms. I didn't let this put us off as its a lovely old place and the food was very good, next time I will ask for a different table lol
m. h.
Can't fault it, good selection of ales, fantastic beer garden. Great staff that enjoy the craic making all feel welcome. Food was superb. If your near definitely worth popping in 👏👏👏
J. P.
Called in for drinks and what a lovely pub / restaurant! Extensive menu with lots of choice, we saw the home made steak & ale pie being served and it looked fantastic 😋
Lovely friendly staff happy to have a chat and made us feel very welcome.
Will definitely be back and will be eating next time!! 😋 x

Lovely staff, beautiful beer garden in the sun. Food slightly bland, no sauce or dressing in the chicken burger or fish finger sandwich. For a £14 burger it definitely could have been better.
Will definitely visit again for a drink.

This pub is a real gem. Lovely place set in beautiful rural setting. Food and drink excellent. Staff helpful and pleasant. I would highly recommend this place for a family outing or just for a great night out.

Stopped off on the way back from Leeds. What an absolute gem of a place.
Plenty of history and in a beautiful setting.
We were welcomed by a lovely, friendly lady behind the bar. She offered us a great menu to choose from, and we sat outside.
Our order consisted of hot beef sandwich with gravy, and fish in panko breadcrumbs. Both served with homemade chunky chips in ciabatta .
Everything was hot, fresh and homemade.
Can't recommend highly enough. Well worth a visit.

The Bingley Arms is a beautiful historic building, in a lovely village, it was built in 953AD. In fact its that historic it has a blue plaque on the wall outside. Inside is just as historic. Original massive oak beams, huge stone fireplaces, with priest holes, the place is just stuffed with history.
The staff were just lovely, it was quiet busy but they got on with the job with a smile on their faces. The food was very very good, delicious. Good portions and very well presented, the wine was very good aswell. We will defo be going again and if you go make sure you read about the history of the pub, its in a frame on the wall. It really is fascinating. We loved it.

Lived in Leeds for 39 years yet today was my first visit, for a solo lunch.
I ate in one of the restaurant areas but would also have been very happy to sit in the public bar.
I can very much recommend the place; the steak and ale (proper) pie came with a delicious gravy, and was served by a friendly team, who were happy to "show and tell" me around this historic building.
I will be back soon, next time with friends.

Visited last week for first time since over 20 years ago and I certainly was not disappointed, it was always first class service and excellent food with a very reasonably priced menu. Friendly, professional and attentive staff making you feel very welcome and an enjoyable experience, and most importantly all very genuine
The beer garden is still a quaint and relaxing area to enjoy a drink and eat out in the summer
Nothing had changed it was all top quality with traditional restraunt values over 20 years ago and still is
Thanks guys !! I absolutely recommend this place to anyone wanting a top class meal with classic country style and service !!
P. L.
delicious home made food and beautifully presented. Good beer and wine selection. Would have been 5 stars if not for the issue over service.
E. W.
Went here today with my daughter and son.
We absolutely loved every minute of it.
The food was incredible and the staff were even more amazing. Cath and Karen showed my son around because he was very fascinated by the history.
When we were leaving cath helped me get back to my car as I am disabled. The service could not have been better. What a great place 🥰

Popped in for a beer while out for a walk, oldest pub in England , proper pub ,none of your plastic inns. Good choice of ales and lagers, staff very welcoming, Able to watch sport on TV in the vault .
C. W.
Lovely at table service - catering well during the corona virus. Staff were pleasant and let us know how to order and offered to find a table for us. Atmosphere was cozy and there is a nice garden area to sit at the rear. Would definitely recommend to friends and family. Good amount of parking at front.
G. H.

Shared a lovely meal with the family on Friday. The lady who took our order was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and the beers which they stock. We had a little tour of the inside of the pub, it's in remarkable condition for the age of the property. Would recommend it to anyone. 10-9-21
M. L.
A really great place with ample space inside and outside to relax and eat. After a 2hrs country walk with a friend we chose to drop in and were welcomed in by the friendly staff. Our meal was freshly made, absolutely delicious and with beer from the bar the pains of the morning walk soon disappeared. There are lots of car parking space here as well so I may just visit again to relax and enjoy the food in the really lovely atmosphere of The Bingley Arms.
M. F.

Really nice, old fashion pub with good food and very friendly and helpful staff. We were able to sit outside, in the garden. Prices are ok, as well.

From entering the Bingley Arms made very welcome and no bother. Food was great asked for mashed potatoes instead of chips.no problam. My wife asked for a slight change to her menu and no problem again.thanks to you all.shall be back
R. W.
Excellent food and service.accomodated 14 of us ,no errors in service ...bonus😁staff only too willing to give a little history lesson too, being one of the oldest pubs in UK and even showed us the priest holes and told us of the haunting.
R. O.
This was our second visit for afternoon tea and it was excellent! The lady who looked after us was friendly and chatty, ensuring we had top-ups of tea, hot water etc. The sandwiches were plentiful with yummy fillings and different types of bread. The scones were warm from the oven and light as a feather, homemade of course! All the cakes were homemade and delicious. We had to take some home as there was more than we could manage! One of the best afternoon teas I have had...and I have several every month! We will be back!
s. h.
Really nice staff olde world pub worth the visit

Had a meal with friends on a cold autumn evening. We all had pies, game, fish and the legendary steak and ale. Absolutely delicious.
Great to hear they'll be selling them during lockdown.
B. S.
Nice pint but food a little wanting. Staff nice
N. G.
Really nice pub, lots of outside space and an app to order food and drinks. Would have been 5 stars, but on the day we visited the Covid rules for the gents (1 at a time) broke down and there seemed to be no regard for other people.
S. W.
Excellent Food and friendly staff. Great experience.
J. L.
Great place to refuel, staff very pleasant and helpful.
G. F.
Lovely historic inn, nice cosy atmosphere, lovely attentive staff and a great fish pie. Would be happy to come here again.
J. T.
Great food , Great menu , great staff and ample parking at the oldest pub in Britain. We'll definitely go back .
j. d.
If I could have given more stars I would . A beautiful venue full of history. Spacious and well laid out. We were in the area whilst on a short break and came across it on a Google search. The menu is varied and extensive. We chose the steaks that happened to be on an offer - 50% off the grill on Wednesday - after sampling the food we would have happily paid full price!! Both Sirloin and Rump were great quality and cooked how we asked. Fantastic homemade chips and onion rings. Not frozen onion rings, flabby and tasteless! The rest comprised of mushrooms, peas and a lightly cooked tomato (I hate it when they just cut up a tomato and serve cold) we also had a gorgeous side salad. We were stuffed! A very nice meal out and would love to return if we are in the area again and many thanks to the lovely staff. A warm greeting from a lovely server, I think was Kath?, She was very helpful and nothing was too much trouble.
J. D.
Great pub, great food and helpful, friendly staff.
S.
Great food, staff are lovely
G.
Really pleasant experience on a family Sunday lunch out.
Service was pleasant and helpful, and food was lovely. All six of us enjoyed it, and any minor issues or menu requests were dealt with efficiently and with no fuss at all.
Would like to return again in the near future. Well done.
M. G.
Excellent food And the staff very friendly we even got a tour of the building secret passage way and hidden priest holes amazing history
F. -. F. V.
The best pub I have ever visited in the UK. Historic setting very well preserved, very polite and professional staff. I didn't try their meal so I'll definetely come back for more. I strongly recommend it.
M. B.
Had afternoon tea here with my daughter, which we really enjoyed. I had vegetarian sandwiches and had the fruit scones swapped for plain ones. The room we sat in was comfortable and not overcrowded. The staff were very friendly. I Would highly recommend this place.
J. R.
A very old inn, full of character with a good menu, lovely garden & very friendly staff, although somewhat limited choice of real ale.
W. M.
We had booked for afternoon tea on what turned out to be a sunny afternoon. We were served tea and coffee quickly but the tea took nearly an hour to arrive. Good food but when we asked for another coffee with the sandwiches, one of the waitresses was quite rude. She huffed and was not happy about serving outside - she said she had people waiting at the bar! We had booked a month before so they had plenty of warning. And our meal was cold so could have been prepared well in advance. The meal itself was good, shame about that particular waitress.
C. H.
We were SO hungry after visiting an antenatal client at home to talk through her plans for birthing her baby, so called in here on the way home. Friendly helpful staff, good pub food. We waited s respectable time for our veggie fish and chips (battered halloumi) and steak pie. I got very excited about the carrot and swede mash. The pie was a bit overcooked but otherwise it was all good. Plenty of parking, serves food from lunch time until evening so none of that "you've missed food" when you walk in at 2 p.m. which is appreciated when you're an independent midwife working unusual hours!
D. K.
Love this place! Great atmosphere and particularly great in the winter when there's a roaring fire - there's a real sense of the age of the building and a timelessness; nothing feels rushed and the staff and clientele are extremely friendly...the cellar is well kept, with a good selection of real ales that really hit the spot! 100% recommend...
Yet to try the food, but I hear good things...
L. H.
Lovely meal and great staff friendly and welcoming.
L. S.
Food was nice although a little stingy on the vegetables. Beef was beautifully cooked and ask about the priest hole!
D. C.
Oldie world building, as it should be,
It is England's oldest pub.
A good chat and banter with the staff, and made to feel very welcome.
4 hand pulled beers & the usual lagers,
A very nice wine selection,
And the food we had was top notch,
Different menus to choose from.
A good decision to call in for lunch.
j. m.
Lovely lunch outside in covered area. Staff very nice and friendly, couldn't be more friendly. Going back again once doors are open next week.
A. C.
Went to The Bingley Arms on Sunday. We never made a reservation but the staff were superb. They found a table without hesitation and fuss and made us feel really welcome. The food was cooked to perfection, the service was impeccable and the price was really wallet friendly. One word of caution! Book in advance. If we had been half a hour later then I believe we would not have been so lucky. Book it and try it. You will not be disappointed.
T. W.
Nice traditional pub/restaurant in a lovely location. Great beer garden. Friendly staff.
Good selection of beers.
We had the steak sandwich and proper chips, with gravy brilliant. As chips go these are the best.
C. P.
Good food. Friendly staff. We had a lovely family meal. Having been told it would be a reduced menu for the bank holiday I was a little concerned about the fussier members of the family but I needn't have worried. Plenty to choose from for us all.
M. W.
This pub is fantastic, great atmosphere, staff and food. Would fully recommend you stop by and see this place for yourself.

Beautiful place, friendly staff, amazing food at good prices! My daughter and son in law brought me here as they had been previously and loved it. Now our go to place when we are in the area, couldn't fault it.
M. B.
So much history in one place. We had a wonderful experience with the lovely manager showing us the priest holes and the entrance to the tunnel to the church. The food was also really good, a little twist on traditional English fare, definitely leave room for their version of the Eton Mess at the end of your meal!!!
a. s.
Beautiful meal enjoyed the whole experience highly recommend
d. k.
Really interesting pub with a long history (worth reading about that on wiki). Went as party of eight to celebrate a birthday and the service was fantastic. We had two young children who both enjoyed them selves. Found that staff very thoughtful and quick with the service. Food was well presented and tasted lovely. On the day the staff did seem to struggle answering questions covering food allergies (nut allergy query) and unfortunately the high chair supplied had a fault with the tray which would not stay in place (was only realised when the food flew of the tray.... to the pubs credit they immediately set about replacing the food and apologising). Would visit again.
P. O.
Lovely atmosphere, cosy and Christmassy. Food and service excellent
M. T.

Lovely place for a meal, fresh quality food at reasonable prices, with good choice. They claim tobe the oldest pub in England, it is certainly steeped in history. Well worth a visit.
C. W.
Ate in this lovely pub yesterday. One of the nicest pub meals I've had. Staff were all friendly and attentive. Social distancing well observed.
C. R.
Afternoon tea was a lovely experience. Karen and Kath made us so welcome and kept offering us more tea. The sandwiches and cakes were beautifully presented and tasted lovely. The Bingley arms itself is full of so much character and we all really enjoyed our post Christmas treat. Special thanks to the chef and Karen and Kath.
J. M.
Great food and friendly service.

Amazing hospitality, brilliant atmosphere. We came for the two course Christmas dinner and loved every bit of it. Highly recommend especially if you’re looking for a little corner of brutish history.

What a gem! Quite big inside, very nice with original beams and features. Staff plentiful and very friendly. And the food is amazing, all homecooked, large portions, variety of fresh vegetables, lots of meaty gravy. Puddings are delicious, cheesecake and fudge cake, all homemade too! Best pub meal I've had in years! All washed down with superb moretti draught beer!
A. T.
Great pub; with ample car parking, a few different lagers and ales to choose from, excellent quality and portion size for their food and a superb beer garden tucked away at the back.
Really doesn't lack in anything you'd want from an out of town pub.
Absolutely cracking place!!
A. K.
We had a lovely meal! Game pie got a big thumbs up, rump steak enjoyed, and the hallomi and chips and mushy peas was very tasty! No room for pudding!
T. H.

Great pub, used to visit a lot when a friend managed it. Popped in in April '18. Staff very friendly. Didn't try the food this time, but the extensive menu did have my pallette watering! Lovely beer geer garden, what a sun trap.
J. B.
Hello
We absolutely loved it and haven't been for many years... the location was lovely and so was the food so we will return
A. C.
Visited many times and always been a pleasure, great food, lovely beer in a historic building with very nice beer garden. My only gripe is I can't get popped up as it's a wee taxi ride from where I live. Love to all the staff there x
K. P.
Wonderful characterful pub with gorgeous food. Their pie is amazing and their fish and chips rival any chippy. Probably the best homemade chips for miles around.
A. B.
Great historic building... Truly amazing building, its like going back in time, in a great unique way... Fantastic tiered garden.... Good prices, good food, good beer. Friendly staff. I really don't know what more you could want.
R. M.
Lovely venue but somewhat disappointed in the food, asked for my steak rare and it wasn't, the "sauce" appeared to be a can of chopped tomatoes, starter was undercooked and do it goes on. Nothing disastrous but disappointing. Great range of ales though!
j. M.
Friends invited us to afternoon tea at the Bingley Arms this week. It was really good and exceptional value for money. But for me it was even better. I am coeliac and I was treated to a feast. The sandwiches were a little dry but this is usually the case with gf bread but the fillings more than made up for this. Home cooked ham and chicken plus generous portions of egg mayonnaise and smoked salmon and cream cheese were delicious. Plus a scone and 4 cakes. I had to have a doggy bag. Many thanks to the chef Marco. We will be back and hopefully I can have a lovely lunch too!
G. S.
Fantastic country pub.. great food.. fast and friendly staff.. reasonably priced.. been eating here for many many years with family and friends
Never disappointed 🍺🍺😁👍🏼

Visited the Bingley Arms with my parents, grandparents and 12year old nephew. There was something on the menu for everyone (young, old and veggie!) and the service was fantastic. Great pub, great food, great service. Really impressed and will be back soon.

K. S.
Great food, surrounding, staff and atmosphere. In the words of the terminator… ‘I’ll be back’
J. H.
Great Sunday lunch and a lovely atmospheric pub
A. B.
The bar maid here was surly and grumpty because I was buying a large round of drinks. The fact I was paying the best part of thirty quid didn't cheer her. Despite this it's a boozer with a load of character and worth a visit.
M. B.
Wonderful food service and a very warm welcome definitely recommended
M. A.
Ideal beer garden with over 30 tables for lockdown recovery ! Chicken Cajun burger is the best
W. J.
Lovely atmosphere, great food with plenty of choice. Helpful and efficient staff. We will definitely return.
J. B.
Good menu, busy in the beer garden during weekend.

The staff were really friendly and nice but the service was slow despite not being busy. The food is quite good pub grub with huge portions
R. “. G.
Lovely setting, great staff, we arrived late Sunday and it did feel a bit end of day potatoes etc but great portions and flavours.
D. R.
My husband and I experienced afternoon tea as a belated Christmas present at the Bingley Arms. When we arrived, tables were not ready for us and others who had also booked for afternoon tea. This was apparently due to a large number of people who had had lunch at the pub. Tables were soon laid though and the two staff on duty, Kath and Gemma, soon had everything under control and presented us and several others who had arrived with a delicious tea. This consisted of a variety of sandwiches, cakes, Eton mess and scones with jam and cream (not to forget a beautiful cup of tea). The girls were most helpful - especially Kath - who introduced me to gin and elderflower tonic, with a slice of cucumber - delicious.
Many thanks to you two who worked your socks off to make it a memorable afternoon. We will be back!

Nice place to visit England's oldest inn. Really good food. And very friendly staff. A good place to relax. Recommend the lamb shank and the Malteser cheesecake. 😁😁😁

Lovely pub, good food. The public bar can get a little smokey when the fire is lit, but not enough to stop you huddling around it in the cold winter months
J. G.
Excellent afternoon tea prepared by Stuart. Very intersting pub oldest in Britain over 1000 year old .l

(Translated) Playing on the English side, The Bingley Arms looks beautiful and exceeds the 1,000 year mark. But it still can not boast of being the oldest bar in the world. It is, however, the oldest in England, which is no small thing.
Located in Bardsey, a small town in the city of Leeds, the Guinness Book has its year of foundation as 953, but some evidence suggests that this pub actually established itself in 905.
(Original)
