Reviews of The Fox and Newt Pub
F.
Nice, clean, friendly pub with a decent selection of beers and great food. Enjoyed a family Sunday lunch. Each of us had a different option for our Sunday roast; one beef, one gammon and one pork sausage roast. The apple pie and carrot cake desserts were equally nice.
L. J.
Played scrabble. Bar staff terrific. Have a £10 min purchase. Pints are £5 each so good if two of you or a greedy sod like my friend the fish. Dined here too, not as delicious as I anticipated but filled a hole. A great venue. Missed the pub quiz, perhaps another time.

I popped in while staying at the Holiday Inn round the corner.
Plenty of beers on tap. Tried 4 had 2 pints. Food-see photos was hefty. Fish gougons were really good. The burger was mahoosive and mot bad.
Dead friendly bar woman a d very good value for money.
Can't complain-give it a try.
K. N.
The staff are very friendly, helpful with accommodating to changing how some items are cooked. Food excellent. Definitely 5 out of 5 on all aspects.

Good traditional boozer didn't eat but the food looks good - nice Guinness all part of a good day out in leeds
K. B.
Holly is amazing!! Fab night with loads of atmosphere! Played the best music on request. Thank you!!
R. H.
They do awesome pies. Friendly staff. Games in the corner. Very studenty but it is surrounded by university campuses.
I. J.
Really great pub very friendly staff good food and well worth a visit

Down to Earth pub with some exotic meal choices. Anyone fancy a crocodile burger? :)
D. S.
Nice place with 3 taps of locally brewed beers (1 or 2 brewed on the premises). Bottle selection is limited. Free WiFi and good prices, for Leeds
C. M.
Nice friendly pub just outside Leeds city centre. Cracking real ales. Serves lovely food until 8pm. Perfect when Leeds city centre is too busy.
C. S.
Hollie was a lovely host - so welcoming and friendly. Would recommend to anyone
J. H.
I went to a comedy night the first night pubs were allowed to open and the headlining act was Jason Manford, what amazed me was that he wasn't the best comic, some of the local comics were amazing and I really hope this is something they continue. The drinks were reasonably priced and the service was incredible, this is a propper locals pub, and I would recommend it to anyone.

Delicious food with great veggie and vegan options.

Lovely atmosphere, you've got to try the Sunday roast. Worth the wait it's done proper as Sean Bean says about Yorkshire.

Nice 👍 inside bubbly staff enjoyed myself so will surely be back

Classic pub, decent pint and not too busy. Didn't try the food but menu looked fair enough.
T. C.
Good friendly service, nice welcome and atmosphere

Charming local pub with a great atmosphere. This pub is where I attend a dungeons and dragons meet and the staff are very accommodating. The choice of ales includes one brewed on site and it's really fantastic. None of the prices are excessive. I've only eaten the chips at this place but they are cooked really nicely with several styles and a wonderful seasoning. A must try pub.

please not try 'lost in IKEA', which is really awful.

Three of us popped in for a quick lunch on Friday, The place looks a little rough around the edges but font let that put you off, the food was lovely, freshly cooked and hot and veey reasonably priced. My husband is still going on about the mustard mash!!! The bar staff were very friendly and helpful. I wouldn't hesitate in returning to this cosy relaxed pub whenever we visit our daughter at Uni.

This place is great. The range and quality of food is way better than your average pub (the boutique burger range is definitely something to try!) and priced very sensibly. A quality and constantly rotating range of bottled and tap ales / lagers always helps to wash it all down. Free wifi, a jukebox with decent selection and a good atmosphere will see me returning for lunch or tea in the future. Thanks guys!
S. H.
Very friendly, enjoyed the beer. The food looks fascinating, though I haven't tried it yet
M. D.
The Sunday roast was absolutely unreal. Proper pub Sunday roasts and great portions
I. M.
Popular place with locals seems to have stuff on every night it was comedy night when we were there (Monday). Staff friendly just stayed for one drink as we were going into town.

The Fox and Newt serves food daily to 8pm. The menu is deliberately kept uncluttered. The menu caters for vegetarians as well as non veggies. Beer is fantastic and is brewed in their own brewery. Prices for both food and beers are kept very low to help locals and the local students. Great local pub.
P. I.
Small, traditional pub with friendly staff. Food seems good having seen plenty of it being served. Includes vegan options! Situated such that students and after work drinkers are both in attendance.
D. R.
Proper pub with a good choice of food and drinks. Friendly staff, sunny seating outside. Just what we needed on the way home.
R. W.
A nice quiet pint if not a tad expensive
D. R.
Very nice live venue.
H. M.
Just called in for one drink. They have different things going on through the week it was comedy night, Monday, staff friendly. It seems more for local people.
J. E.
Nice pub, comfortable, welcoming and friendly service. Good food and their in house beers are excellent. Just moved into the area and we are looking forward to enjoying our new local.
P. B.
Good atmosphere, decent pint. Usually very busy, but it wasn't too bad on this occasion. Food is sort of whetherspoons, burgers and hotdogs but it's not awful and it's cheap. A friend had olives and got a large portion for £1. The beer is cheap. Especially the locally (a couple of floors below the pub) brewed beer.
W. M.
Decent food in a convivial atmosphere.
M. S.
Great live music space upstairs, nice clean toilets and a decent selection of drinks, with friendly bar staff to boot! Decent value as well, not on the level of Wetherspoon etc but the atmosphere makes up for that. Great for a relaxed night out with mates.
B. H.
Went this pub for an event in the upstairs room. Had a superb pint and later a cup of coffee. The whole place had a lovely feel to it. Really enjoyed the visit.
A. B.
The Fox & Newt is a really nice local boozer, recommended regularly by CAMRA which sits just outside the city centre and is situated opposite Park Lane. Workers from the surrounding offices make a beeline for this pub on a Friday evening and the place can go from completely dead to packed to the rafters within the space of an hour.
Ale lovers, stick to the Brickyard and Laguna Seca - both are nice, cheap and brewed on the premises (CAMRA love this!), in the micro brewery in the basement of the pub. (You can sometimes have a mini-tour if you ask nicely!) The rest of the drinks are standard pub fare - Guinness Extra Cold, Carlsberg, Strongbow, Amstel are some of the brands, with a selection of guest ales on rotation - such as a chocolate stout that keeps coming back by popular demand (it really is delicious but very rich, so it's hard to manage more than a couple) and a cider that boasts an 8% ABV and is not for the weak-livered! Bottled drinks are quite pricey but a large selection. Old Mout, Kopparberg and many other, more uncommon brands are featured along with a large selection of uncommon and lovely bottled soft drinks.
Food is served from 11am-8pm and there is a wide variety of gastronomical delights, with an ever-changing specials board. Like most pub fare, it caters mostly for carnivores. The hotdogs are particularly good and come with a huge variety of toppings. The loaded fries are similarly good, especially washed down with a pint of one of the aforementioned home-brewed craft ales. Veggies and vegans are not excluded and there are always plenty of plant-based meals on the menu. When the kitchen is closed, customers are welcome to bring their own from the takeaways next door, which is pretty cool.
Upstairs is not generally open to the public during opening hours because it is a space where there is often live music. The soundproofing isn't top notch (more like non-existent) so if you're hoping for a quiet pint when it's a gig night then you'r out of luck because it's usually audible throughout the whole pub. In honesty though, it doesn't sound too bad and usually is only on a weekend evening, when people are getting merry and lively anyway. That space is also hire-able, so if you have an event you need a venue for, then give them a call for their rates. I have seen all kinds of different events there before, from private memorial parties with food and a DJ, full-on professionally stage-managed gigs, arts and craft fairs and art galleries, so it's a very versatile space. Entertainment downstairs is probably the world's most random jukebox. It's got everything you can imagine on it and shuffle mode produces some odd combos of music: think Metallica followed by the Teletubbies theme tune.
The beer garden is small, with only 6 benches but in summer it's a little sun trap and can seat a surprisingly large amount of people for such a small space. To access the beer garden, you have to leave via the front door and go round the back so smokers tend to congregate outside the front door instead of walking all the way round, so non-smokers who choose to sit outside are not forced to sit and endure a stinky environment. You can eat outside too if you wish, the food is brought out of the back door for you. It's a nice place to sit when the weather is nice. Not so nice when it's raining though because there is no shelter - they would do well to install some kind of awning that they can put out as shelter from rain and retract when it's sunny. Even umbrellas on the tables would be good but I have a feeling they would probably get pinched in this area.
There is a small parking space at the side of the pub that is not subjected to the permit-only restrictions of the rest of the area, but not many cars can fit in there. Don't mistake the massive, empty space immediately behind the pub for parking space because that area belongs to BT and you will get clamped for parking in there.
The Fox & Newt - it's lots of people's favourite pub and for a very good reason.
M. J.
Quality staff, quality Jukebox, loads to drink, beer garden is a sun trap, top gigs upstairs, outstanding food with weekly specials. And if you're really nice to Ross Fox Kitchen Boss, he'll make you a Vegan Special. What more do you need to know. Get there and don't be late bellends xxx
J. L.

(Translated) Average pub, nice decor, nice people. Unfortunately, the microbrewery's specially brewed beer was not drinkable during our visit. Had something on vinegar or overturned beer. Well, it might be different next time. Unfortunately there was no live music that Saturday either.
(Original)
