Reviews of The Head of Steam Leeds - Mill Hill
R. S.
The bar is split over two levels with fun décor. What do they have behind the bar? I think it said 100 different beers. If you can't find something to like then you aren't trying. We were on a whistle stop tour of leads so I only had one here but the lager was great. I loved this pub and would visit again in a heartbeat. Nearly forgot! Don't forget to have the pork crackling it's amazing!
D. E.
Head of Steam by far one of the best real ale pubs in Leeds and only five minutes from the railway station
D. M.
Excellent range of beers and other drinks, always friendly staff and a range of seating or standing options. Very handy for the station.
Just been in again today, lovely friendly atmosphere. Two pints of well-kept Cameron's Strongarm
D. S.
One of many great pubs near the train station. This place has an outstanding selection of beers. The guy behind the bar was very knowledgeable on what he had and gave me several samples to try. Definitely another go to place when back in Leeds.
A. D.
1st time in hete, Friendly service, great beer selection including belgian beers. Would highly recommend
M. E.
Brilliant beer selection, warm pork scratchings 😍 and very friendly barrstaff.
H. W.
Interesting place. The guys behind the bar seemed fairly friendly. The beer selection was very good, and fairly reasonably priced.
I wish I had stayed for food as it did smell and look quiet good.
EDIT: I came back for the food and it was really good! The guys behind the bar were awesome as well.

My sons choice but a great choice, nice pub great choice of ales, shame they only offered the strawberry lime or ginger cider, but nice atmosphere, friendly bar staff.
S. L.
Great range of Ales and beers, I love the layout of the central bar and of course it is ideally placed for public transport.
S. D.
Fantastic selection of beer, friendly knowledgeable staff, nice atmosphere & good location near the station.
P. K.
Brilliant choice of Belgian beers, walked in thinking, "usual city centre boozer", shocked to see so many great choices of European fayre, but mainly the Belgian brews
O. M.
Always great selection of beers and handy so close to station
S. 2.
It's an excellent place The Head of Steam. Ideally located next to Leeds station. Focus in here is on European beers and there's a fine selection of Belgian bottled beers. Pleasant place. Well worth a visit.
K. L.

MUST VISIT
Great place! Huge fan of Head of Steam. There's a huge selection of drinks to choose from, the bar staff are very knowledgeable and can direct you and give recommendations of what to have in your drinks. The atmosphere is great, they play a wide variety of music in here so it suits everyone and the decor in here is second to none! Cannot recommend it enough. It seems it is one of those hidden gems that you just so happen to stumble upon when venturing through Leeds and since visiting, I'll never find another place I prefer.
My personal recommendation is Delirium.
J. C.
HoS near the station in Leeds is a fantastic drinking pub with as great selection of beers in an excellent setting.
I. V.
Great range of ales & specialist beers. Great ambience & central location
H. B.
Fantastic selection of beers from around the world but it's a bit pricey (maybe due to proximity to the station) and it's a bit cosy in there at the moment for me with all the covid regulations.
j. l.
Some of the best beers in Leeds and the staff are fab too.
P. H.
Great selection of belgium beers.
O. S.
Good atmosphere, and a good selection of well kept beers. Took a look at the menu, and the pie tasting platter sounds amazing. Shame I had already eaten not long before visiting.
L. S.
Lovely place to drink great atmosphere friendly staff.
M. W.
Excellent selection of craft beers. Friendly staff and centrally located.
M. H.
Really like this pub. Great views!
N. D.
Much better than its larger counterpart on park row. Better selection of beers, better music. Has a kind of punky, grungy feel in a nice way.
H. M.
Very good beer and fabulous decor. I love the bottle chandelier. Really great music too! Friendly staff.
M. P.
Great selection of beers and always happy to put up with the Yorkshire Beardsmen
S. G.
Great range of Belgian beers. Pricey, but worth it! Friendly and helpful bar staff. A gem of a pub.
T. w.
Been a big fan of Cameron's I always make a stop at head of steam. It was great too see strong arm and road crew on tap. It was also great to see kwak on handpull too. Never seen that.
I settled for a DIPA can.
Cracking pub, good staff, great beers!
K.
Great Ale, helpful barmaid rocky atmosphere
P.

K. S.
Great beers and very friendly staff.
c. e.
I don't know about the food but the ale selection is brilliant - a Tardis of a place - well priced and friendly
c.
Pleasant and relaxing pub, clean and comfortable and very handy for the train station especially if like me you want to squeeze another beer in
F. S.
Really enjoy going to the pub, always lots of real ales to try.
M. C. (.
Great atmosphere, quite busy and great location in the heart of town, with a varied selection of beersvand ales amongst other things.
D. N.
Always a good selection of beers on here.
N. H.
Great bar with eclectic choice of ales. Recommended!
C. B.
Great selection of Belgian beers on tap and in bottles. Knowledgeable staff. V good service.
B. C.
Great range of ever changing beers on tap, set in a modern, industrial setting.
The bartenders were extremely helpful and willing to discuss their large selection of beers at length. They showed a great knowledge of what they were serving.
Thank you for a wonderful evening.
S. B.
One of Leeds' stand out pubs for the range of beer, excellent music and friendly staff. I sometimes go there, but don't let that put you off.
A. B.
Delightful pub just on the right side of hipster. Excellent Belgian beer selection (with the correct glasses) and some classic 90s tunes on the stereo. Enough space for sitting in comfort. The Belgian bottles aren't cheap though - brace yourself for £6+ per bottle - but it's good value even at that price. Make a stop in if you're in town.
A. F.
I absolutely love it in here.. I work just around the corner and went in for the first time last Friday. The food is really nice and hearty with an amazing price. It’s cheaper than most places in the area, The portions are massive, it’s very filling, very tasty and for £4.95 (lunch menu) you can’t go wrong.
Since last Friday lunch time Iv been there for lunch most days. Then I went on a Saturday evening and it was fantastic, a busy mixture of people. It’s really popular in an evening and an afternoon but you always get served really quickly and your food doesn’t take forever either.
They have so many different offers and things to look out for like 2 pizzas for £14 between a certain time. 2 cocktails for £12, 2 glasses of Prosecco £7 also only between certain times.
Then they have shuffle boards and pinball machines, there is even a photo booth thrown in there. Staff are amazing they really look after you but don’t bother you either.
R. W.
Great bar. Always has a brilliant selection of craft and real ales on offer. Atmosphere is relaxed and you can even get a can of any draft products to take away for 20% off. Conveniently located next to the station, great quiz on a Monday too.
K. L.
I absolutely love this bar. We headed there on Sunday. Some awesome live Jazz, lots of friendly people in there. The bar staff were lovely, fun and friendly. I can't even believe how many beers this place has, it's truly amazing. Some lovely unusual things on tap and it seems to change quite often too. A great place to go with friends, watch some live music and enjoy some real nice well selected drinks. I plan on visiting again soon.
S.
Always a great beer selection, reasonable prices and knowledgeable staff
e. m.
Superb bar. Very knowledgeable staff and excellent range of Belgian beers. Could not fault it. Visited again today 15/10/19 and cannot recommend too highly. Friendly, excellent range of cask and continental beers. Staff are so knowledgeable especially Declan, thanks for your help.
D. T.
Great Leeds pub.Always visit when on Boar Lane-barmen very knowledgeable ,great choice of beers-but give me anything in a stein and I'm happy.
I. P.
Absolutely love this place, great choice of beer and ale and if you hit this place on a Sunday then your in for a treat. The live music on sunday is amazing.
We went Xmas eve and they had live carols and sing along, really made me and my wife's Christmas special.
The staff here are super nice too which adds to the whole experience.
Definitely recommend this place!
G. R.
Friendly staff. Great pint
L. Y.
Reliable cosy pub with huge selection of beers and nice food. I would say that the beer here is probably, on the whole, better than Bundobust in terms of choice and value-for-money. The food is traditional, so you won't be getting the innovation at bundo, but good enough. Worth visiting.
j. j.
Lovely staff. Super atmosphere. Fabulous choice of beer.
P. p.
Great selection of beers . Helpful bar staff .
N. T.
Went in mid Friday afternoon. It was fairly quiet, but a nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Nice selection of Belgian bottled beers in the fridge, and a reasonable choice of mainstream beers on draft.
P. N.
Great pub. Loads of different real ales on tap and bottled. Friendly staff.
R. O.
Some very nice beers. Although I haven't tried the crisp selection yet.
T. H.
I visit this Mill Hill pub occasionally when in Leeds. The first time was several years ago when Copper Dragon was the only ale on tap. On subsequent visits with more friends the selection of real ales on tap has significantly increased. Beer is always well kept and staff are very friendly.
On my last visit to Leeds (December 2019) we thought the pub had moved to larger premises on Park Row. Went in and it was massive plus full of hipster's and millennials. When we were eventually served it was 2 IPAs in dimple jugs. I prefer straight glasses. Beer was good but should be at just under £6 a pint! Won't go back again with those high prices. Luckily we found that the Mill Hill, Head of Steam is still open. So we went there where we had a decent pint at a fair price.
D. Y.
Popped in for a pint while waiting for my train. Very wide selection of beer and helpful, friendly bar staff.
C.
Wonderful pub near the Park Plaza Hotel and Leeds Station. I was lucky enough to go in on Jazz night that made a wonderful difference from the usual pub. My beer aficionado friend said the election was great!
T. B.
Great pub serving great beer
M. B.
They really have done a great job refurbishing the place.
They have got loads of real ales to choose from be careful though some can be a bit pricey.
Overall a grate place for a few pints.
Plus bookmakers is close by if your wanting to do a few bets.
N. O.
🍺 Amazing beer choice 🍺
J. H.
Amazing selection of beer - a wide variety of British beers, lots of session ales plus a ton of mental strong speciality beers. Maybe 15 beers on draught, zillions of cans and bottles.
A formidable range of Belgian and continental beers, including dubbels, tripels and quads on tap.
Friendly staff who really know their sh*t
E. M.
Have not been to this pub for ages. The place has been done out in the top area and it looks really good. The bar staff are very friendly and there is a good atmosphere in the place. Have come here since it opened up. Would definitely recommend this pub. The drinks may be a bit more expensive than your average price but there is a good choice of drinks.
N. W.
Nice pub. Pleasant staff.
D. M.
Great choice of beers.
J. Y.
Nice bar, recently refurbished and enlarged but has retained a cosy atmosphere. Great choice of cask and craft beer, and gin! Probably my favourite bar in Leeds centre. Bar staff are knowledgeable about beer and can pour a pint properly.
P. W.
Relatively small place which manages successfully to pull off cozy rather than cramped. A truly staggering array of drinks (the drinks menu is 26 pages long!) with a wide price range. Food is quite limited and consists of artisanal bar snacks rather than meals. I personally didn't try them but they smelled fantastic. Music is good and at a volume that fills the place while easily allowing for conversation. Staff that I interacted with were knowledgeable and friendly.
P. H.
Amazing selection of ales. In addition to an ever changing selection they have a constant presence of Belgium and American craft beers on tap. A genuine beer lover's paradise.
M. S.
Love this bar in the round. Great staff and great beer range.
P. W.
Ace place, good atmosphere, great staff
1.

Cool jazz...and beer.
P. N.
Great pub. Loads of different real ales on tap and bottled. Friendly staff.
C.
Wonderful pub near the Park Plaza Hotel and Leeds Station. I was lucky enough to go in on Jazz night that made a wonderful difference from the usual pub. My beer aficionado friend said the election was great!
D. T.
Nice central bar near the station with a good selection of ales. Worth a try.
M. J.
For me and my friends this is the best pub in Leeds. Great variety of drinks, friendly and helpful staff and decent prices. Sometimes live music, too. A must try!
F. G.
Bigger head of steam based in the center of town. Love the beers and ales at the original and now this one has shuffleboard! Great if you are able to book, I would recommend!
F. B.
Great choice of ales and a nice atmosphere
K. L.
Well the place was quite quiet, but I had to walk around the bar to disturb the servers. Beer was ok. Nice vibe about the place generally but welcome should have been better.
J. M.
Great venue. Friendly staff. Incredibmr range of booze
A. C.
Great bar with huge choice if beers. S little pricey though. Good selection of beers and real ales that you might not get elsewhere.
J. A.
Poor choice of venue, cramped for room so quickly becomes unappealing when the crowds arrive. The strength is the range of beers, consistently priced and usually something for everyone. The inevitable by-product however is it becomes a bit like an airport waiting lounge like Wetherspoons than a pub with its own local characters and quirks. Also, what hole do they drag the staff out of? Apparently being rude, disinteresting and dressed like a skiprat is some sort of asset. I don't know anyone in the entire world who likes bars where the bar staff are like that. I occasionally drop by for an interesting cask ale or Belgian beer, but generally don't consider it a favourite. Tapped nearby is more interesting beer-wise, more spacious as a venue, and has far nicer, friendlier staff who have long since got over themselves.
M. L.
As you enter it looks like a smallish bar but once you go around to behind the bar its it's actually pretty big , nice areas to sit and enjoy one ( or more 😁) of the many draft and bottled options .... overall a good spot.
W. R.
I liked the interior design and set out of this place. Good pint, good prices and nice staff who liked the banter. I'm going to Leeds again soon and will make a point of returning.
W. M.
Great cozy pub, but still upbeat. Lots of choice of beers and ale, along with gins and the usual suspects. Well worth a visit
J. W.
Great bar with good selection of beers and gins. Nice atmosphere. Can get busy on a Friday/Saturday evening.
Y. R.
Decent pub with about seven million beers. Close to the railway station. Don't go expecting John Smiths or Tetleys but do expect to pay £6 a pint. One for the hipsters.
S. B.
Nice pub, deceptively large, friendly staff. Can get really packed on a Friday as its a common after work pub and the first decent pub you see as if you are coming from the station into Leeds for a night out.
T. D.
Fantastic pub in central Leeds. A really great variety of ale, great staff, and a fantastic atmosphere. Would have given 5 stars if they still had the food options!
w.
Nice selection some I know and more I haven't tried so I need to come back
S. M.
Great selection of beers
1.
Unbelievable selection of beers, friendly staff
S. C.
Lovely bar great staff enjoyed my time here
R. F.
Great atmosphere and brilliant selection of beers. I loved the selection of Belgian ones but you will pay a premium as these are imported but in my opinion it's worth it!
B. N.
I didn't expect to find a Hanssens oede geuze in Leeds just before I jumped on the train home, but that and the oudbeitje made my world feel a lot more fun on a cloudy Sunday. Also had some kind of funky brett sour on tap. A gift to Leeds that I feel may be underappreciated, this is a place that serves the kinds of beer I like. Very much.
J. E.
It is what it is, not bad but a bit too trendy for my liking.
H. S.
Great service. Quiet enough to have a good chat over a drink but busy enough to have ambiance. No loud music. Bar staff friendly and efficient and informative.
A. G.
Crazy range of draught and bottled beers and ales - too many to try but worth a try. Staff are great. Bit pricey in the beers but kind of expected for the weird and wonderful
c. 1.
Excellent pub, good range of real ales, lagers and craft beers, plus an excellent gin selection. Only thing lacking is seating but it's got plenty of space for standing chats.
B. L.
Our first trip to Leeds. Head of steam is a great pub. Good selection of beers. Fantastic live music on Sunday night, amazing
S. J.
Great traditional pub.Huge range of lagers beers cider etc.Good starting place for a night out or just to pop in.Buzzing atmosphere.Does get very busy even at dinner time.Have been several times and always enjoyed it.Opposite Leeds Station so great place to meet friends from out of town.
E.
Been here twice with my dad. As a CAMRA member and real ale fanatic he was very impressed and requested to go the second time, as he was visiting. Seating is good and I like the layout with the circular bar, although I imagine it must be frustrating to the bar staff during busy periods.
J. W.
Terrific pub. Great beer from all over the world and very friendly staff. A must for real ale lovers in Leeds.
S. I.
A hipster pub trying to be a cool real ale pub. It doesn't really work. Ok ish range of beer but there are better places to get real ale in Leeds.
D. G.
Staff were lovely and friendly and great choice of beer, what is there not to like! Also very reasonably priced too
D. T.
Superb selection of beers, knowledgeable staff and they allow dogs. What more can you ask for? My new favourite pub in Leeds.
D. C.
Great staff massive selection of beer and friendly atmosphere
S. G.
An interesting pub with a lot of drink options but not a lot of room to stand in. Still, always deserves a spot on your night out list even if you go there for one beer.
M. M.
Good place plenty of atmosphere
S. J.
Knowledgeable well trained friendly staff. Great selection of real ales and foreign bottle and tin beers.Good food. Can be busy at times.

Great beer, awesome staff, fantastic space!
G. C.
Fantastic range of beers, ales, stouts, porters etc. Great atmosphere, staff and location. If your visiting Leeds this is a must see destination for a drink.
R. S.
Great range of real & craft ales in this central Leeds pub. Usually have beers from the excellent Northern Monk Brewery.
M. W.
Great selection of local and international beers. Staff know their beers and happy to help. Great vibe around a central bar
P. H.
Out with a large group ten out of ten live jazz on Sunday evening that was a plus lots of atmosphere good selection of drinks bar staff very efficient well worth a visit Central bar a great idea definitely will go back again
K. S.
Not a beer drinker. We went for some pub food and were really pleased with the fish n chips. A big fillet with crisp and not too thick batter. See my picture.
t. K.
Lovely higgledy piggledy pub just around the corner from Leeds train station. Lots of interesting craft beers on offer. Cosy atmosphere thanks to a a kind of alcove like late around the central bar.
M. R.
Superb range of beer with well informed staff. Very handy for Leeds Central Train Station . The burgers aren't half bad too!
S. S.
Great selection of beer but the toilets really need updating. They do takeaway beer from their draught range via a canning machine.
a.
Good atmosphere, great layout with the circular/octogan bar in the center. Some of the drinks on offer slightly odd (blueberry milkshake IPA?)
X. J.
Lovely beer, nice atmosphere and friendly staff
R. B.
Excellent beer selection, bar food and burgers really tasty and fairly priced. I like this place. A real beer lovers destination.
R. B.
Best choice of beers I have ever seen. Great atmosphere. How a pub should be
C. M.
Very good choice of beers both UK and Belgian can be a bit pricy. Very nice place to spend an hour or so I feel very comfortable in this pub.
W. G.
Had a good conversation with the barkeep about the merits of a honey flavoured beer. Large open space with an interesting central reservation bar.
A. S.
Love the place and the staff know their beers well, but more than £2 per half pint is getting a bit on the pricy side.
C. M.
Wide selection of beers
Good pub quiz
But need to do some sort of cheaper night as its bang in the middle of a student area
B. J. N.
Music was great, nice and chilled. Burger and fries were amazing, and staff were proper friendly. Definitely a cool place just to chill out alone or with friends.
l. r.
Great staff who are knowledgeable about the beer's, which there is a great selection of. Had a great Sunday evening in there and will definitely be returning Cheers!
O. K.
Great pub with such a wide range of drinks to try and enjoy. Some seriously strong drinks to try with great staff to help you decide.
m. a.
Top place, good place to visit on a Sunday evening if you enjoy music: local vocalists/ musicians. Also a good selection of the poison.
R. C.
Great pub with large selection of beers and a buzzing atmosphere.
A. W.
Excellent beer from knowledgeable staff. Nice atmosphere. Can be crowded at peak times
L. N.
Visited on Saturday afternoon so very busy. A bit loud and absolutely rammed. Worth the wait for a seat as there is a good selection of cask and craft ales.
B. D.
Very close to the station. Always a great atmosphere. Selection of real ales. I got served quickly. Staff were fun.
S. W.
Great range of beers. Dog friendly. Great bar staff. Well worth a visit
A.
Bit too loud for me because I'm an old man - but otherwise nice cider on tap and plenty of space. Building itself is impressive.

Large selection of drinks, staff helpful. Gets really busy during peak times, which can be uncomfortable given the bar layout.
D. M.
Nice friendly staff. Good selection of beer's

P. S.
Fantastic selection of beers. Always something interesting on tap. Nice little place.
J. R.
Lovely pub

What you would expect from the Leeds

Good choice of beers particularly bottled Belgian beers. Staff were more interested in talking and arguing amongst themselves than serving customers though
