Reviews of Toby Carvery Bruntcliffe
C. D.
We recently went for our Christmas Day dinner. Although our tables were a bit squashed I didn’t really care as I was happy to see the staff had all turned out and were smiling and happy and couldn’t do enough for us. The food was beautifully cooked the selection was great and we didn’t wait for anything. To have this level of service in such hard times I cannot fault them. We met some other really great diners the atmosphere was lovely we would go again.
D. W.
When we visited, the restaurant was very busy, due to the offer. The staff were run off their feet but still served us quickly and they were very helpful. Nothing to improve on really, except the place could benefit from a deep clean. For example, the built-in wall extractors in the restaurant are dirty and do not seem to work.
C. W.
I absolutely love this place, but I would suggest the carver to wear a hair net, as I didn’t like the thought of my carver yesterday Darren having quite long hair and it falling in my food. But other than that everything was great. I had a great birthday meal with my partner.
J.
The food was really nice and the staff were very friendly. This was a good experience.the only reason I did not score a star, after my partner hdd I had finished and despite telling them I had intended purchasing one to take out for my mother.
We had a nervous wait at the Bar when it was suggested they may have to refuse.
We did get one but I was a little disappointed with this, firstly I made them aware and secondly we had purchased carveries and drinks beforehand.
I. M.
Nice Carvery! Decent selection of meals available, I had the Gammon and Turkey. Plenty of Veg and Roast Potatoes, Stuffing and Gravy. 2x Yorkshire Puddings as I had the big option. Staff were attentive and polite.
E. G.
Went there for breakfast, was all you can eat. Lovey food and options. Totally worth every penny. Will be back again
Nice clean pub, with a nice atmosphere. Was very popular for breakfast.
B. D.
Meal was nice & hot & plentiful. Only downside for me was I was unaware I had to take the QR code for 2 for 1 meal, I was therefore charged full price. I booked through TOBY internet site, thinking all meals were 1/2 price not thinking there were conditions
A. W.
The place overall is great, we are regulars and usually don’t have an issue.
However, the carver tonight on 18/02/22 I think his name was Paul was very rude. Refused to give my partner the bit of meat that she wanted and was very rude to another customer in front of us who wanted to swap a bit of fatty meat. The general attitude of this guy was disgusting.
d. a.
Great service clean tables and cutlery. Unfortunately the meat was tough couldn't swallow it. They did change the meat for different type but as I don't like turkey or gammon I had to put up with it
P. S.
We visited just after lockdown 2021 and pre-booked a table for six, we were promptly seated and allocated a waitress, it was quite quiet to be fair, but that how we like it anyway, ... after promptly being served drinks, we all opted for the carvery, .... I'd visited on several occasions, so knew we weren't going to be disappointed, and we weren't, it was just lovely, the gammon ham is just beautiful and cooked to absolute perfection, i highly recommend this place !
R.
Love this Toby. Staff are sound and foods always bang on. Cant beat the price for what you get. Free tip- go king-size 🙌
L. E.
Lovely friendly Staff. Lovely Pub. I came here for Olio, to "rescue" some food that would otherwise go to waste. There were a few customers for Olio, I had to wait at least 15mins for the food to be packed. But it was well worth it! Being veggie, the Trimmings were delish! Really enjoyed and well worth the money! Only 4 stars because I felt a bit anxious and unwelcome, but staff were friendly enough. Perhaps because I haven't used Olio before to rescue food, so felt like I was being judged.
S. G. M.
The food was beautiful. Staff service was very polite and quick no faults whatsoever here will defiantly be eating here again
K. R.
I think the food, the waitresses, the chef tthe whole staff were amazing and very friendly. Would be definitely coming back here with our family!!
l. p.
Molly was brilliant. Very attentive and lovely to speak to.
Food was mainly good however the pork wasn't great.
T. D.
Visited today (Saturday) for lunch with a friend. The food was lovely although some of the veg wasn't very warm. There was a good selection of veg - roast and mash potatoes, carrots, cauli, sprouts, peas, trimmed beans, a gratin of potatoes and carrot. What really lets the place down is the building itself. The outside incl window frames needs a really good paint job, the carpet needs replacing or a heck of a good clean. The tables could do with re-staining and the roman blinds needs replacing, the linings are in a dreadful state and can be seen from the outside. The whole interior and exterior looks very unkempt. If it wasn't for the lights been on you would think it was closed and abandoned.
p. a.
Waitresses need to be on station !!! Not chatting with each other or off somewhere else? Chefs and servers were brilliant food was good to.
R. O.
Visited toby carvery today for lunch. Everything was cooked to perfection. The mash was beautifully creamy and all was really well presented. Servers were polite and attentive. Thank you for a pleasant lunchtime experience 😊
G. G.
Went for breakfast, no booking required. Helpful staff but you have to go early as they will run out of some items. No bacon or sausages and egg was so hard I couldn't get my knife in it. Ok if you are a veggie.
C. A.
Came here for a birthday celebration with my family. Asked for step-free access to table which was no problem at all. The food was great, and plenty of it, unlimited veg proved too hard to resist for most of us! The many flavours of Pepsi Max on tap were interesting to try out, too. And the desserts were huge! The service was wonderful throughout our visit despite the restaurant being fully booked. We will be back!
S. C.
We had a great time . All 13 of us ..we we met by a very friendly Tina..she was very helpful and attentive.. the food was hot and tasty .. we will certainly be back ..
M. G.
We both enjoyed our meal except for cook meal was a lovely experience.
C. B.
The best of the Toby Carvery places around my area. Really friendly staff. Very helpful. Really nice feel to the place. Not dark like a lot of the others.
P. M.
Toby restaurant is a nice and cozy environment with a highly professional level of access to the customer here and there will find a member of staff who will say something funny which I consider a very favorable feature for the restaurant. It is important to maintain a friendly attitude with the customer rather than just as a customer approach. You feel more like a family and thank you for your attitude and the willingness of the staff to understand a customer from another country such as me. I come from the Czech Republic and I am really happy that the staff is helpful, because my English is not perfect. Thank you very much and I look forward to see you soon I am quite frequent mostly evening customer. Yours sincerely, Petr Musil
j. f.
Lovely grub and pleasent atmosphere sometimes a bit slow with getting stuff out but all good
M. L.
Do a great Breakfast.as well as their famous carvery meals.
J. J.
The food was fresh and perfectly cooked, staff were attentive and professional
C. J. S.
Moist and juicy meat, I eat ALOT and even I had to leave some on the plate.
Can't stir wrong for a casual meal
S. L.
Took close friends hor a birthday treat as usual excellent service food very good
Definitely recommend
M. R. R.
As usual. Wonderful food. Expensive drinks but the food was really nice.
P. T.
It think it was great because the staff too k care of me when I explained that I am profoundly deaf
Z. J.
We visited today as a party of 10 and the service was amazing from start to finish! We were seated really quickly and received amazing service from a young lady named Leah M who looked after us the whole time- she couldn’t do enough for us! She was very attentive, smiley and friendly even though we all ordered different deserts! A lady named Laura helped bring the desserts out and she was just as lovely, very smiley and chatty! The food was amazing and a very friendly carver who handled my sons bad mood brilliantly - will definitely be coming again! We all left feeling very positive and beyond satisfied with the service from start to finish.
A. W.
Not been able to have proper roast potatoes for over 5 years and these were well worth waiting for!
A. P.
Food cold, gravy cold
Not many in.
Devoid of atmosphere.
No wonder they doing half price meals of a Wednesday!
D. H.
Lovely staff, very polite and welcoming. The food on the other hand was like it had been there all day. Was very dry and tasteless with the serving area very messy. The gammon was nice though and the pudding was amazing. Not sure I would go again.
M. S.
Reserved for midday on a Monday, and the place was fairly quiet.
Got 2 carverys, both were delicious and sizeable even with chef dishing out. While they are following restrictions as best they can, please expect to wait a little for the carvery queue.
The thing to highlight is the service, Laura our waitress remembered my drink order for refills every time which was great. Also saw a staff member help an elderly lady to her table while carrying her plate for her, which was lovely.
Great experience, will be returning
C. k.
They seem to be under staffed a little at breakfast but they try their best. Breakfast is nice
M. P.
Food acceptable, pleasant staff. I ordered a large glass of tap water with a dash of orange cordial, when the bill arrived I noticed that I had been charged £1.80 for it!! When I queried this, the staff response was that they felt it was expensive but nothing they could do, but charge me. NO GOODWILL NO NOTHING!! If I'd have ordered just the water, there would have been no charge!!!
b. t.
Really friendly staff and the food was delicious as always.
M. T.
Friendly helpful staff, didn't have to wait for my table. Food was very good plenty of choice, I went for the carvery as it was a Sunday. Very busy place it's best to book as a lot of people kept coming in that hadn't and the area they were sent to, to find a table was pretty busy. Will definitely be coming back soon.
K. A.
Food nice but carving staff very rude, building in desperate need of update
W. F.
The food itself was cooked to perfection and very tasty but it was dry and barely warm sadly. If it hadn't been I would have given it 10⭐
S. W.
Nice and chilled place for a Sunday Roast
I. W.
By the time we went to the carvery at 7:15 on a Thursday evening, almost everything was finished. No roast pork, almost no turkey, no ham.
Plenty of nice vegetables, but little meat to go with them...
A. F.
Beautiful breakfast beautiful food would highly recommend it cheers
A. S.
Really nice actually.
Been to a few around the country and found them a bit hit and miss, but Leeds one was much better.
The staff and really friendly especially the chef.
Everyone was happy and fed 6 of us for fifty quid! 😎
B. B.
Good food good service really friendly with our children.
B. W.
Because of pandemic haven't been for too long a while. Lovely food. Attentive but not pushy staff. Large off road car park that slopes but no step access to building.
D. C.
Great pub, great food , great staff always helpful and friendly
S. H.
Great value for money, staff very friendly, unfortunately, the food was sporadic and you had to wait for certain food to come out, and by the time that came out the other food items were gone and you had to wait for that to be cooked and served. The filter coffee is not the best but not the worst that I have tasted.
d. S.
Had the carvery had all meats enjoyed it as it wasn't my turn to pay.
A. P.
Not as much choice as there used to be.. food luke warm. This used to be a great breakfast place... bit disappointed really
M. K.
Thank you for the good service! Delicious food and for the comfort!
S. J.
Loved it ...food great. Good staff.
J. C.
Carvery was amazing as usual, next to no desserts available and we had to prompt the staff to let them know we wanted to order whilst they were messing about behind the bar
S. W.
Was nice just found some of the food very dry
J. K.
Lovely breakfast with the family, served by lovely and polite staff
L. M.
I didnt get her name I only know she was 17 and only works Saturdays but she went above and beyond for us, thank you 💙
M. S.
Absolutely delicious! I wish I could make Yorkshire puds like that!
R. D.
Lovely carvery, nice staff.
T. H.

P. B.
Great food lovely staff xx
S. B.
Excellent service staff were very polite and professional.
Food was lovely and really fresh , no long queues at the food station .
E-mail communication excellent .
Would definitely recommend .
S. C.
Tina was a lovely hostest she really does goes above & beyond made us feel very welcome. Only issue really was the amount of meat even after upgrading to king size.
S. M.
Such a lovely evening. So nice to be out. Staff had everything under control felt safe with all the covid precautions. Lovely food as always. Staff where nice and polite and clear on restrictions.
L. H.
Food was delicious and we got served very quicky
C. U.
Very friendly staff comfortable atmosphere great food 👍
A. E.
Went with all the family was a lovely meal , nice and clean with a warm atmosphere, toilets spot less too which is always a bonus
j. s.
I would have given 5 starts as the carvery is exceptional unfortunately they have let themselves down with the breakfast.
The sausages are over cooked and tasteless there are not many options and they only do fried eggs which after being sat under the heat lamp for a while are not the greatest.
Customer service is excellent though.
m. g.
Staff and food were great ,, I just don’t like the way you are served ,, your plate getting passed down a line of staff to dish it out , first meat then second staff member to put stuffing and roasted potatoes then pasted down the line for veg and gravy so that’s at leased 5 pairs of hands touching my plate before it gets passed to waitress to take it to table
J. H.
Great friendly staff, carvery was lovely and facilities all clean to a high standard. Think its our fave Toby and we'll definitely be going back!
H. D.
We had a very enjoyable time at Toby Carvery Bruntcliffe we felt very safe, we requested to sit in bar area, we ordered our drinks then went for our meal, it was plated up for us & brought to our table by a waitress who was very polite, overall a pleasant experience
N. W.
Age old question??????Are you allowed to have more than 1 yorkshire pudding on Standard plate? 🤣🤣🤣 who knows
Not bad for money 👌
P. W.
Party of 37 and staff were excellent. Service good, food good had a great afternoon.
G. W.
Very nice food at a good price
J. D.
Went tonight as received 50% off main courses, booked in advance to ensure we had a table. Staff were really chatty and helpful, the guy serving the carvery was also very chatty. Food was excellent as it was busy so quick turnaround and not stood drying out. Faultless from start to finish!
A. B.
Food was hot, fresh and tasty. What more do you need?
Staff were friendly and helpful too.
P. J.
New restrictions mean you order each item via your server. This doesn't mean its worse by any means - its probably even better. Lovely staff, service and delicious food
F. P.
Nice food, pleasant staff, clean enough
NB. The only reason I didn't give a 5 is because we had asked for a highchair. As it was busy there was non left (understandable) the lady said she's bring one for us when they freed up. However that didn't happen and we had to re ask again when we saw them being given to other dinners. Small thing but had to drop a star.
C. S.
I haven't encounted any problems here, or non that are a huge problem. Very friendly staff great food. The only problem I do have is they tend to go easy on the meat, but it's all made up for in the price.
Me and my friend comes here often and love it each time.
D. p.
Very friendly staff as always and good food
M. P.
Social distancing was adhered to and the place was pretty clean. The Staff were very friendly and accommodating. We had a carvery and and everything tasted really good - Toby standard.
S. H.
Fabulous food staff really warm and welcoming and very efficiently run no waiting around clean and friendly and the Yorkshire puddings where fab
R. A.
Fantastic service the lady that looked after us was called Louise excellent customer service and very polite and helpful food was warm and she was very welcoming
J. H.
Lovely Sunday pub lunch everyday of the week. What more could you want. Staff are very friendly too.
R. B.
Bang on 50% off. Food fresh an very nice. Went for kingsize carvery £5.00 lol
R. H.
Really friendly and polite staff, quite quiet atmosphere, manager was especially helpful and welcoming, tasty food and very baby friendly with free food for tots & high chairs. Only downsides were 1. When I asked for the key to the baby changer the lady pointed at it instead of giving it to me 2. The person we asked for the bill totally forgot about it and never brought it over. 3. One of the entrances to the car park is really dangerous / dodgy junction. Still, if you tell yourself it's self service for everything including getting keys & your bill, it's a fab experience. Will definitely return.
S. B.
Lovely food good service
D. P.
Sited next to a Travelodge and has plenty of car parking.
Staff very friendly and helpful.
Food was good, though some had been under the heat lamp a good while so you had to dig underneath. The beef cut wasn't the best with some stringy and fatty slices. But the edible part had flavour.
Overall, a tasty gravy dinner in a clean restaurant and bar. Toilets looked in need of redecoration but were clean.
H. W.
Great process in place to reflect C19 rules. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. Food is now plated up by kitchen staff who very very chatty and very generous with the food! Great experience for me and my family
S. H.
Sunday lunch - carvery - fine, though the lamb option looked a little too rare for my taste: some prefer a bit of redness. Yorkshire pudding great. Can't comment on the gents - didn't visit. Standard carvery plate more than adequate for me, and extras fine.
M. T.
Food always hot and a good service
L. B.
Really nice carvery not had one since before lockdown and I really enjoyed the beef cooked perfect with all the trimmings and gravey well worth it.
d.
Meal on the whole nice .
Would have been nicer if we had meat .
I think the Carver was buying the joint himself.
It says on the menu go king size for extra meat but the Carver gave me a children's portion.
S. P.
Very nice place friendly people
M. R.
I dont see point of having staff bring your plate to your table.and you follow them more people are handling your plate.1 the chef.2 the veg man 3 the waiter.it can be handed just to you after the veg man.
D. E.
Staff very helpful. Being a Wednesday I was surprised that there was 30 people in the queue. I joined it but after 10 minutes and the queue did not seem to get smaller. I asked the manager if I could have could just have veg instead of the carvery as the queue was so long. So I did just that. I don't think it reasonable to have to stand and wait 20-30 minutes to get food especially as I had booked a table before I got there. If it's busy you should be able to have the food brought to the table.
Also my partner would have had one of the vegan meals, but was told it was out of stock, which isn't very good when there are only a few vegan choices to start with.
A. A.
Ive dined her multiple times over the years and have always enjoyed the carvery.
I have an illness which stops me from eating for vast periods of time and whenever I get the go ahead to eat again, this is my first port of call.
I find dining out a big issue because I cant eat vast amounts of food and I always feel the need to explain myself, so not to insult the chef when three quarters of the dish goes back to the kitchen, after service.
The carvery is beautiful, the range of sauces and gravys are better than most too and the food is always a good temperature. Ive eaten from the main menu too and again, I don't have a bad word to say.
Just get there early for the carvery, as its very popular and you can have a wait .
C. D.
Very busy place but managed fantastic and kept clean along the way. Excellent food and a short wait to be served. The waitress was absolutely fantastic beautiful young girl with a big smile and fantastic Maners and surving skills. Me and my partner really enjoyed our visit and was very impressed. One of the best to visit out-of lots of Toby visits. Keep up the fantastic work to all the staff from kitchen to the waitres and management well done. See you again soon thank you and happy Sunday.
J. G.
just came for drinks... duty manager unfortunately on her last weekend made us feel really welcome.
R. S.
Ordered carvery for take away from the website but the options were limited so had to call the restaurant. Very friendly staff and sorted my order perfectly and to top it off the food was delicious, very generous portions and great value. I'd recommend it to anyone.
O. D.
There was a rude customer shouting & abusive to staff
They handled it very personally
D. S.
Milkshakes we ordered were very bland and tasteless. We were told this was the recipe.
Carvery was OK. I'd ordered Salmon and had to chase this up as everyone had finished their meals before mine had arrived. We also had to chase up milkshakes and a dessert.
Could have been much better with a little more effort/organisation.
H. P.
Very tasty and friendly staff.
D. C.
We booked a table online but on arrival we were told that the queue at the carvery was too big and were advised to wait at the bar. On ordering two glasses of cola we were told that we had to have the refillable Pepsi and were directed to the SELF-SERVICE machine(not service at all). I ordered a pint of real ale which was poured carefully so as not to spill over the edge of the glass but this was flat after two minutes and was exchanged.
We had to queue for about five minutes at the carvery but it was worthwhile as the food was good. Overall this was a three star experience but if the staff and management had higher standards it could have been a four or five star rating.
J. P.
Stayed in hotel next door, but the hotel didn't have a restaurant. We had two lovely meals (carvery), great food, even better staff who couldn't be more friendly, never had a ask twice, felt they went the extra mile, we even went back in the morning for their breakfast. Would definitely recommend and eat there again, if we're in the neighbourhood.
C.
Decent carvery, tried the yorkie wraps here and loved them. My only gripe is every time I've come to this specific one is the wait to be seated. We were waiting 10 mins for someone to even acknowledge us.
M. H.
Clean safe and welcoming and the lamb was fab finally good to be stacking my plate up with lots of roasted at a extremely good price ☺️
L. M.
We like it here. 99 times out of 100 the meat is good and good selection of vegetables. Went Monday no greens! It’s rare though. Lean tender meat. The carver was charming and helpful to a lady with coeliac. All staff friendly and helpful.
G. S.
Overcharged me on my bill. But my fault for not checking properly. Having said that was seated quickly. Food piping hot and plentiful. We had the carvery and a vegan option. Will go again with it being local.
A. C.
Visited on way to family funeral. Car park could be better signed as we went right past it and had to cut thro the hotel next door, the eating area is well layed out and the food was nicely hot. Gents toilet..... oh my what a mess, cubical door lock held on by one screw, light fixing hanging off the ceiling, exposed electrical wires, i wish id photoed it now because most people ive spoken to couldn't believe it.
Bottom line nice food, nice seating area, facility's need work.
l. G.
We go as a party of 6 to 8 of us. Enjoy our roast dinners. Staff always helpful. Out of all the dinners we've only complained once and ended up with a complimentary drink. We will keep going and would recommend.
s. g.
while visiting family over here we decided to try the Toby carvery as we have never been before and we don't have one in jersey 🇯🇪 Channel Islands where we are from .
We didn't book a table and when we turned up it was very busy the gentlemen at the till was more than happy to see us and not turn us away he said that there would be a 20 minute wait to grab a drink at the bar and he would call us when there was a table ready . True to his word we didn't have to wait longer than the 20 minutes we got shown to our seats by a young lady called Emma who was very friendly and welcoming she explained how everything worked and showed us where to go for food and refills on drinks .
The food was delicious 😋 and well worth the wait .
When we had finished we were full to the brim and asked for the bill we were pleased with the total amount of the bill
We will definitely be coming back and bringing the family .
M. W.
A great Sunday carvery for £8.99.
It's an extra £1.50 for "King Size", for this you are supposed to get more meat, an extra Yorkshire pudding, and a chipolata sausage too. I thought they seemed a little stingy with the portions of meat, so went for the king size. I still didn't seem to get any more meat than anyone else, but it was all very good.
They had around 5 vegetarian options on the menu, which said to ask which two were available that day. When my wife asked they just said to pick whichever she wanted, which was a nice change.
J. 1.
Not a good choice of eatery tonight, carvery Q was very very long and the server was obviously stressed and rude when asked for replacement vegies, replying with "I don't know i am the server" not a good feeling for us customer's listening to him answering in a "don't ask me kinda voice" won't be rushing back. All other staff very pleasent though hence the 3 stars.
D. K.
Don't know he had brown hair
D. W.
Short staffed on Xmas day never said they were i mentioned on leaving they confirmed took ages to eat . was dirty. table not cleared properly food & cutlery under tables & on tables from persons before us .staff not dressed tidy had jeans & trainers on starters & desserts were thrown on plates the carvery was good though. Advice is be honest about staff & clean tables on & under before seating next customers.
I. M.
Good food a reasonable prices, just a shame they increase the coat by £4 per head for weekends & bank holidays
C. S.
The food was warm and tasty.
D. M.
Sometimes go on a Sunday but only for the carvery. It’s lovely! Would go through the week for it but it’s not replenished as much so it’s not great. The variety of drinks is extremely poor. Almost all of your basic standard beers, ciders, spirits etc you will find in every other pub in Morley you will not find here! Therefore would only ever go for Sunday lunch.
D. G.
Didn't have a reservation, only had to wait 10mins to be seated, good food, friendly staff,
B. F.
Nice carvery. Small meat portions recently. Also the carver was about to give me a very poor Yorkshire, small and flat. I asked for a different one so he brought better ones from the kitchen. Lamb is a nice new addition to the choice of roast.
S. B.
Both times been to charge car at BP pulse point pub has been shut at 8pm on a Saturday evening.
P. G.
Came in for Sunday lunch after staying in the Travelodge next door.
Incredibly busy so a 20 minutes wait for a table which is to be expected on a Sunday lunchtime without booking.
The chef carving the meat was obviously on an up sell bonus as he sounded like a broken record leading people to have the Kingsize plate (which I chose). Fair enough if he actually put more meat on but he put exactly the same on the kingsize plates as the normal ones so I dont think the extra £2 is worth it for two chipolata sausages and an extra Yorkshire pudding.
On the positive side though, the meat and vegetables were fresh and tasted good. Overall its fair value for money.

You now have to book a table but no hardship in that, All social distancing followed by a friendly and professional staff who were on shift even when you go for your carvery the chef serves you everything you ask for and social distancing is mapped out all over , able to relax and enjoy our meal, will definitely be back soon.
J. S.
Yum yum stick it in my tum... 😁😁.... I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Carvery. Best place for a wholesome meal and it's cheap. Thank you for sending out vouchers too it makes me want to visit you more. Good on you 😁😁

Reviewed 6 months ago (Sunday) and it was absolutely packed! Thankfully we had pre booked a large table.
So the carvery was pretty good. A fine choice of vegetables and all cooked nicely. The meat was sadly very fatty though and I had to throw a lot of it away. The Yorkshire puddings also were so flat they looked like frisbees. Nothing like how they used to be in Toby restaurants.
The plates were strangely cool which made the food loose temperature fast. I was wanting piping hot food, but it was only warm by the time we sat down. At one time the plates were heated up beforehand.
Puddings were brilliant though with great portion sizes. They really were tasty and well worth the money.
The staff, especially the carvers did look grumpy and looked like they hated their jobs. It's a shame they didn't smile or just even say hello or something.
The young lad who served us was great though and was very helpful and friendly. He even thanked us for coming which was nice at the end.
Would probably give the place another try, but maybe in the week when less busy.
### UPDATE 8/8/2019. ####
Decided to give this place a try 6 months later to see if any improvements.
The meat seemed better this time with less fat.
The Yorkshire Puds were well risen and not like pancakes this time.
Plates were warmer.
Chef seemed friendly when he finally appeared to serve.
Female waitress fairly efficient but a bit miserable looking.
The vegetables tasted a bit meh and certainly not Marks & Spencer quality.
The cauliflower and carrots were very undercooked and raw tasting.
What annoyed me the most was they had conveniently run out of Spotted Dick and Treacle Sponge pudding. These were the puddings in the cheaper offer making you have to buy the more expensive ones. Or maybe I'm just too cynical.
What organised restaurant runs out of puddings on a Thursday?
Poor show Toby!!
A. D.
Staff were friendly and helpful. The food was generally good and topped up regularly. The loss of a star is because the mushrooms were gritty and the toaster was broken, also they were unable to make a hot chocolate.
S. B.
Used to be fantastic but breakfast was a hassel last visit. Felt rushed. Turned toaster off when I needed some. They should not accept customers so late in the morning if they intent to pack up so quick!!!! Other than that evening meal is lovely but I prefer Heathfield for the family now as it’s cheaper in price with children’s entertainment facilities and very large puddings sorry guys x
A. B.
Why not a 5. Well, If you go on a sunday and don't fancy a carvery, you are buggered. I wanted a Yorkshire wrap but had no choice but the carvery. Servings wise, meat can be hit and miss, sometimes they are a bit stingy with the meat, sometimes you get a a reasonable amount. Serve your own veg, so if you are like me, you really will be stuffed by the time you go home. Value isn't bad and drink wise, if you eat a lot, go for the soft drink refills. This makes it easier to polish off a large meal. Our lass has gone for the vegetarian option a couple of times and very rarely been disappointed. One time the broccoli tart I think it was, was served cold in the centre. This is the only time we have had to send food back, but on the whole, we stumble away with a very full belly not needing to eat for 24 hours.
C. Q.
Carvery food lovely but issues with veg and child options. Bill was wrong.
C. “. R.
I go on a regular basis. We have Christmas meals and regular meals here. The food id always hot and the staff super friendly. Lots of choice. Lots of offers. I find after 6pm seems better but anytime and any day is great also. No complaints. My whole family love the place and keep going back.
L. C.
Food was excellent and chef behind serving counter was really nice and friendly who made us laugh and smile. However, this is the second time I have been served by the same waitress who was quite rude by serving us the bill when we hadn't asked for it as we were still eating, as well as this time talking about me behind my back to another member of staff rudely that I had used a 'stupid discount card because I wanted money off.'
C. K.
Absolutely amazing as always. We only pop in here every 3 months or so in our way either to or back from seeing my friends in Bradford. The carvery is always amazing in here and the service is always bang on. I think the ladies name is Leah and I had the impression she was the acting manager or supervisor on the floor and she did it with great gusto! Pleasure to see. Our waitress of Jayne and she was training up a young lady called Zoe (I think) who was just so lovely, helpful and couldn't do more for us. We tried the giant yorky with nachos! Not for us as it was a very strange combination but well done Toby for trying something so different I am sure others love it. We will be back.
T. R.
Defect food,, fast polite service,
D. A.
We go most Sundays excellent staff- one waitress in particular called Deborah is fantastic n always makes a fuss of our two year old! Carver is great n desserts are amazing - sometimes gets very busy with long queues fro carvery n sometimes dessert choices are unavailable
c.
This is a carvery I have been to many many times, sometimes because I have stayed at the adjoining hotel and many times because I used to live in roberttown. It used to be a fantastic place to enjoy a lovely evening meal . However I found it wanting in many ways over the last year or two . At one time I felt compelled to complain about the amount of flies behind the carvery and buzzing me during meals . Another time the meal was unsuitable in that the veg were not cooked correctly . Last time I went (3 months ago ) the food was only Luke warm ! Some staff are brilliant and some could do with more training .
T. F.
Not bad. Typical sunday rush. No need to book if you get in around 12. Staff are a bit slow. We asked for the bill and said we'll pay on card she went away and returned with a bill. Then went to get a card reader and didn't return. After 15 minutes of waiting we gave up and paid on the app
C. R.
Can't go wrong with a carvery. Even when it's busy the staff are friendly and helpful. Good for kids. The prices are good and there are colouring/activity sheets for the children to do too. So all in all a good meal out.
p. h.
I love toby carvery and think it's a great place to go for meals. The busiest days are Sunday,Saturday and Friday due to the fact that they are the main days to get a roast. The meat is nice but you dont receive that much but in the other hand you get unlimited sides. You can get many drinks and the best non-alcoholic drink to have is the refillable soft drink. Personally I think that the best side to get is the stuffing which tastes amazing with the traditional toby carvery gravy. All In all I would definitely reccomend to people who love a classic roast.
A. M.
Food was great, staff very helpful. Choosing carvery options from list was a bit odd but worked fine, and it keeps things safe during pandemic.
J. K. L.
ALL YOU CAN EAT BREAKFAST FOR JUST £4.49 !!!! (unlimited tea/coffee is extra)
This is Self Service. You help yourself to as many breakfast items as you can possibly stuff and if you're not full when your plate is empty then go back for more! Includes all the usual items you associate with a full breakfast & more! ...like Bubble & Sqeek and massive Yorkshire Puddings and gravy too if you like (it's amazing how well it actually goes with all the other breakfast items).
Also includes as much bread/toast butter and jam/marmalade as you can eat too.
You won't leave there still hungry guaranteed !
M. S.
Excellent food, friendly staff and quick service, everything you could expect from the Toby Carvery experience! The only comment I have is that the building is in need of some maintenance/renovation as some of the paint and furniture is old and in need of repair/decorating
N. K.
Went for breakfast this morning, unusal to see Yorkshire pudding on the breakfast menu but my grandson was delighted. A few points,
1 - the plastic serving spoons were very hot as the are under the heat lamps constantly, needed to use a napkin on the handle.
2 - fried eggs are absolutely swimming in oil, mine was doing the back stroke and I struggled to get it on a plate.
3 - the only breakfast location where the toaster work well 😀
Staff very pleasant.
W. W.
Love the Calder Island, Wakefield branch for their service, layout, selection and quality of vegetables/food. They always seem to have the best quality of food compared.to other branches. The vegan selection is lovely and the proteins are great!
L. N. D.
Food was brilliant and the staff are so lovely and kind there x
p. j.
Food and staff were spot on but for me it's a bit too busy , and watching people pile as much as they can on the plates, knowing full well they can't eat it all is a little off putting. A bit like feeding time at the zoo.
P. H.
Great food at a very reasonable price. Glad we can now help ourselves again.
J. P.
Can't fault the food can't fault the service. Allways great service lovely friendly staff. Just love eating there .go on give it a go I'm sure you'll find it's lovely.
A. M.
Good food but terrible service if you use the Toby app. Just make sure when you pay with the app that you make sure that they put your rewards on to your phone at the same time or you will lose them. The staff have been trained by the manager (at the morley restaurant) not to put the rewards onto the phone if you don't ask bit of a con if you ask me.
M. W.
Same old food always consistent, enjoyed it
a. s.
Personally I've only been to this Toby carvery but I have been on more than 1 occasion and I've enjoyed my meal each visit.
Soft drinks available with free refills, good staff, decent size pub but can get busy
H. B.
Not been for a long time, food was fab, was nice to serve ourselves again....
D. H.
It's OK, it's a carvery after all, not bad but not the best.
Been a few times over the years.
S. D.
Unfortunatley on this occasion the food was lukewarm only the gravy was hot !!! And my grandson was given more fat than beef he did get a free dessert but thats not the point and the table next to us sent all but the toddlers meals back for the same reason..lukewarm food.
M. C.
It's a Toby Carvery, the usual lottery as to how fresh all the food is but generally perfectly OK and much easier than making it yourself. For the price point you really can't grumble even if things aren't perfect. They seem a little understaffed each time I visit but again when you pay so little you don't expect the attentive service of a personal waitress / waiter. Those who are there are always polite and friendly despite the obvious overheads on their time.
C. T.
It was amazing I stopped coming because I didn't enjoy it but been twice now and I will not go anywhere else thanks
D. T.
Great food but sometimes you have quite a wait as they don't seem to have enough staff for the size of the pub or the amount of customers. That being said, if you don't mind a wait I'd recommend it.
C.
Pleasant staff, food was good, but not quite worth 5 stars
r. h.
Very good all round food good.
A. B.
Delicious freshly made carvery food. Love the gravy
the Yorkshire puddings are so crisp and divine
love it even more every time I go. The pasta and garlic bread are good too.
S. W.
Toby carveries are good value in my opinion and this one is no exception.
First time I have seen corn on the cob offered as a vegetable option.
Teapot only sufficient for one cup of tea-other Tobys I have visited on my travels have been good for two!-only gripe I have is the tea is always on the weak side-could do with an Assam or Earl Grey option.
A. M.
Nice food, beer was OK, busy and noisy place which was the only small issue but not really the fault of the establishment.
K. M.
The front of house staff were brilliant and friendly, just the carver was a bit stingy with his portions whereas Toby carverys were renown for their generosity when carving the meats!
D. M.
Good for a feed with the lads however sometimes the meat can be a bit shy depending on who's serving. Music is always good. Bar girl are polite.
d. p.
Very tough meat, apart from the mince!
S. W.
Loved it. Food was excellent.
J. B.
Not the best experience on Christmas eve. Sons meal came out wrong and the bun for his burger was solid and dry. I was left standing at the front of the carvery que(along with another couple) for around ten minutes. Asked the host that seats everyone if anyone would be out to serve. He said I will go and shout someone. 5 minutes later he passed again and said oh has nobody been out yet??.... No that's kind of why we are still stood here. No apology but he did this time manage to drag someone from the kitchen. It's a shame the rest of my fsmily had finished there meals before I had even been served mine.
G. B.
as a regular visitor to toby carvery i feel i must bring to your attention to my visit on friday 24/11/17 . called in for lunch at 12-20 the three of us had a carvery lunch we were served well with our food and returned to our table to enjoy, during our meal we all commented that for the first time our veg was not at all warm and as the meal was served on cold plates this had not been one of our best visits. (better luck next time)
P. S.
Must admit this has gone downhill. Really poor choice of vegetables, this is the first time ever I've gone back for more vegetables as there was hardly any choice. Dried up peas, mash potato with garlic in, no onions, cauliflower stalk rock hard. Only redeeming feature was a nice slice of turkey and the Yorkshire pud.
Will be a while before we visit again
N. H.
Came to toby carvery today, staff very warm and welcoming however, I was disappointed with lack of some of the food, had to ask for replacement refils of most of the veg that was not there such as potatoes, stuffing and then there was no carrots and by this time I was fed up of asking so did without. The mint sauce was very lumpy. Other than that I enjoyed what I had, but do feel that more of an observant eye needs to kept on replenishing dishes at such a busy time.
j. m.
An excellent meal at a very reasonable price. The young lady who served us was really friendly and couldn't do enough for us to make our visit pleasant. All the staff were just as accommodating. Thank you.
j. n.
Not taking walk ins so had to go elsewhere.
C. M.
It's a Toby Carvery, need I say more.
Edit (2/4/2018): expanding on my previous comment, which was not meant as a negative view. The Bruntcliffe is actually one of our favourite Toby venues to eat. Every time we visit the food is always fresh; well prepared and presented.
In the main I always enjoy eating in any Toby Carvery, which in general offer the same high standard.
Edit (16/62018):
Beef a little fatty, potatoes undercooked, otherwise another meal enjoyed.
G. C.
Says open at 8am was still closed at 9am so went else where
L. O.
Use to think this place was very second rate awful to Queens chapel Allerton. Now though went their 11.45 am reserved booking manager very very helpful with your special needs.food excellent atmosphere okay doky odd balls behind us but all very good big thumbs up to them and especially new manager from the the Queens.
P. L.
Food was great. Queue was a bit long but we were there mid afternoon on a Sunday. Service was prompt and very friendly. Definitely recommend
j. o.
Really fast service with lovely bar staff and the carvery was excellent.... The meat in particular was beautifully cooked and tender. We will definitely be returning! Thank you all x
S. M.
Friendly staff and a very good carvery. Great value for money and a very good meal. Only small criticsm was the (two) cubicles in the male toilet. One had no lock on the door and one had no lights.
D. P.
Nice food and good service
d. c.
We often come here midweek for the carvery, can't fault it. Food always good and good value. Efficient and friendly staff.
M. I.
We visited at 12 pm bad carvery had just opened the food was nearly cold. Would expect it to be piping hot if only just opened. Goodness knows how long the food was sat before being served.
c. f.
Same as any other went for breakfast was faced with some long waits for food to be replenished and could have been cooked for longer.. not holding it against the place it was because of "big" tables piling up their plates.. "6 hash browns at a time" shakes head
G. D.
The food was OK but the premises, especially the bar area was a bit sad. Tables had been left dirty, as was the floor. Didn't make me want to linger!
Unfortunately as we were staying in the nearby Travelodge we didn't have much choice but to at there.
D. F.
Quiet, clean, friendly staff and food tasty for a picky vegetarian 😋 x
A. L.
Excellent meal no massive queue like weekends thanks Julie for great service
K. L.
What's better than a buffet of perfectly roasted meat and your choice of starches and delicious vegetables? Not to mention the homely comfortable atmosphere. The friendly service tops it all off perfectly.
L. S.
Staff very friendly. The young chef that served us was approachable and friendly.
A. H.
Superb staff and good hearty roast dinner..highly recommended to anyone
N. P.
Foods great, just one too many tables for my liking.. Sometimes you feel lie you're eating your meal on the lap of the stranger next to you..
Staff are lovely.
C. R.
Staff are friendly, food is nice only had beef and Turkey when I was there, service is slow. Said they didn't have any of the wine that I wanted, but one staff member went on a hunt and found a bottle.
B. P.
Cheap & Cheerful! Service was slow. Took over 2 n half hours to get food and desert and the bill. Ice cream completely melted. It was replaced by fresh ones.
D.
Waiters was lovely. However was waiting at carvery for a while as there was no chef and then he came out took scoops of stuffing and said i will be back out soon and dissapeared again, Minutes later and he finally appeared . However there wasnt enough stuffing left in the bowl . Think they just need more chefs or train the one they already have
n.
Nice fresh food , lovely service . Cheap ! Cannot believe the whole carvery meal for 5.99 ! Loads of veg and sauces . Meats tender and juicy. Also great deals for drinks and desserts . Brill
I. E.
Booked a table for two, arrived to a warm welcome, shown to our table and then a small queue to the Carvery it self. Delicious as always.
J. C.
The staff were good , the food well my granddaughter was given the end of the ham, and lump of pork she couldn't cut for the fat , the veg was cold , when staff came to ask if everything was ok I said the veg is cold she said sorry about that go get some more but we were half way through the meal then I asked the main waiter if he could do anything about the meat his words were I couldn't cut into that took her plate brought her some more nice cut ham it was very good of him , thank goodness there are some good ones in the place so Toby carvery sort your staff out and you should do well
M. T.
Great food and nice atmosphere
M. D.
Had a lovely roast meal and apple crumble and custard. It's always busy and we book a table before going. Food great.
J. C.
The family all came along to celebrate mums Birthday.food as always really nice and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Good parking and excellent value for money.
A. B.
I have been in the place for several occasions and was always well received. The food is very good, the place is quite big and the staff is very friendly. I have advised some people to go there and I will continue doing it because I always had a good experience.
D. C.
The food was okay but the tables are really cramped together. This along with the 10 minute waiting time even though half the tables were empty made quite a mediocre experience
S. L.
Meal was OK, although I had booked and mentioned one of our party was in wheelchair they still put us at a table we couldn't get to, they moved us after I pointed this out. Took a while to be served between courses otherwise OK.
C. L.
Little wait to get to table ,then once your the the school dinner experience starts in earnest .que up nicely and await your plate, then ask the grumpy servers for a bit of meat,if you say pretty please you may get a piece big enough to feed your hamster .wait some more and shuffle down to the veg,the mash is lovely however again it all is very much school dinners.return to your table ,feeling duly shameful for having the audacity to request gravy (it's on the menu ,it literally tells you to choose your gravy )shovel it down as the waitress is hovering ,not a hint of a smile (to be fair some were pleasent , unfortunately ours must have had bad news or something as she had a face like a slapped backside .)then when it comes time to pay a smile is attempted,in the hope of a tip I guess.
Overall it perfectly fine ,but it is essentially school dinner simulation.which you pay for the privilege.
S. B.
Good service, food ok
M. E.
Was a great place and staff were excellent, food was amazing for Sunday roast. Choosing your own veg, just can't wait to go again.
J. W.
Although the carvery was tasty. It wasn't very warm.
The staff were attentive and friendly.
L. M.
The food is okay, the bar staff was a little rushed and thus didn't really give a damn about customer service. The place had a 'sticky' feeling to it.
a. p.
It's OK but nowt special called in for a carvery could do with a good clean up too tables not cleaned up and the staff just stepped over dirty napkins that were just thrown on the floor by previous customers 🤔
A. D.
Food was OK, but pub not at its cleanest. Needs an update.
M. B.
Great food. Great value. But Seems to be slipping into disrepair. Plastic wine glasses and food left on tables.Flavours run out if refill drink machine etc could still be great again though
S. P.
Toby is my favourite carvery. This one tends to have food that could be warmer. Also a bit stingy with meat portions although if you ask they will give you more
N. T.
We went on a Sunday tea time so it was obviously very busy! There was a good choice of meat and veg, I went for beef and my only criticism is that it was really fatty! So I mainly ate the veg and potatoes!
J. R.
Brilliant carvery value for money
J. C.
Lovely food service brilliant definitely going again.
L. I.
Toby Carvery is a great place to eat with friends, family or just a couple. The food is always hot and the famous Yorkies almost fill your plate before you even think about the meat and great choice of veg. We LOVE it, be sure to visit one of the Tobys if you havent already! Oh and dont forget their delicious puddings x
M. C.
Good food plenty of it.nice service.Lovely staff.
L. S.
Had Christmas lunch here today. Food was superb and the staff were lovely. All in all a great afternoon! Would definitely have Christmas day here again. Thank you for a great afternoon.
J. P.
Lovely time at this Toby, excellent choice of drinks, great food and even better service. Would highly recommend and hope to eat there again, very good value for money.
A. B.
Good quick service. Only let down by smoke in the air as someone had burnt their toast, but all the windows and doors were closed so no way for it to get out.
M. B.
Brilliant food and great service. Well worth it
I. P.
Brilliant and lovely staff and great service!
M. S.
Had a great meal with the grandkids, staff friendly, lovely food, great choice, excellent value. Would recommend.
D. W.
Short staffed on Xmas day never said they were i mentioned on leaving they confirmed took ages to eat . was dirty. table not cleared properly food & cutlery under tables & on tables from persons before us .staff not dressed tidy had jeans & …
A. C.
Really quiet and the waitress was really helpful. Food was yum
S. M.
Good food and service. Painstaking wait at the carvery for food.
M. B.
It's a nice place and food is OK, but drink prices are too high.
If you drink non-alcoholic drinks they seem to force the bottomless free refill onto you, but if you only wanting a single drink it is not worth it.
Z. C.
Was ok, food is ok and service was ok! I wouldn't fault it for the price of the food in relation to how much you get but I'd rather go to the 6 acres in tong as it's the same price but the place is more homely and the food is a lot nicer
A. V.
For the price it's very good. Service was excellent.
d. a.
Very nice if you just want Carvery, other things on menu r Vegan 8 of em no ordinary meals
C. W.
Awesome food, awesome staff. So friendly and lovely atmosphere...even with all the covid regs!!
T. L.
Good value food but they always seem to have 'run out' of something such as butter, the bench seating is getting shabby and the toilets are upstairs, staff are generally very helpful and friendly, more recent visits have seen improvements overall so now one of the best Toby's in the area, I just they would put fried bread back on at breakfast 😋😋
R. T.
What can I say but absolutely fantastic place. The staff and the food was amazing. Very clean and friendly place to visit. Will be back again soon.
C. S.
Nice food, went for breakfast and was a really good choice, have been for tea as well though on another occasion and that was nice aswell.. lovely staff
N. A.
Excellent value for money as usual. Even the table service (due to the pandemic) didn't dampen the experience
A. B.
Good quick service. Only let down by smoke in the air as someone had burnt their toast, but all the windows and doors were closed so no way for it to get out.
J.
Not the worst but not the best toby carvery. The food was nice, the service was good, had a minor problem which was solved straight away. I suggest toby carvery send this venue more spoons though!
M. W.
You always get good value for money at a Toby, but what makes this place stand out is the staff. Friendly, welcoming and always ready with a cheery bit of banter. Excellent all round.
C. T.
Food nice as usual, staff friendly
S. H.
Friendly staff and value for money with the meals. We have had the evening carvery and a breakfast both left us satisfied.
R. J.
Generally good atmosphere and food is as expected from a Carvery. Some staff are hard to get the attention of but other than that pleasent experience.
J. B.
Friendly staff, family environment. Just book in advance because you could be waiting hours for a table. Unless you seat at the bar tables. The only difference is no waitress and you have to pay first.
b. d.
certainly alot better
T. T.
Brilliant staff lovely place would definitely recommend
M. S.
Had a great meal with the grandkids, staff friendly, lovely food, great choice, excellent value. Would recommend.
S. R.
Nice carvery with a good selection of meats and vegetables. Friendly staff who give prompt service. Would recommend this pub for a good carvery at a reasonable price.
C. H.
Really enjoyable carvery, friendly staff even the tiny manageress was able to crack a smile. Highly recommend this place to eat and enjoy sociable drinkypoos. 👍
S. J.
It was lovely, I chose a beef nap with onions, yorkshire pud and rossties, it was lovely, the yorkshire pud was huge, pleasant friendly staff, no one rushing you. Good value for monry
M. S.
Ok all you can eat breakfast was sparse with lack of regularly bringing out food. Atmosphere was loud but it is a pub environment.
P. P.
Great British food eat what you like when you like all freshly cooked, very nice indeed
m. c.
Great food and great staff who are customer focused and work extremely hard to ensure all customers are safe
R. T.
Great value for money
P. T.
Brilliant food and great service and excellent food for the price made very welcome disabled friendly well recommended a place to visit no need to book just walk in and get a table
D. C.
Staff are too busy to serve all tables . Food was delish especially like that they do crackling with the meats. Would suggest refilling it though
W. W.
Easy to book. Speedy service. Well observed sanitisation. Good food and drinks. Value for money
S. D.
Beautiful lunch although the queue to get it was half an hour. Still, we all really enjoyed our meals.
G. P.
Haven't been for quite a while as it had seriously gone downhill but there was a massive improvement. Lovely food and friendly staff
s. C.
Lovely meal this lunchtime. Piping hot food and gorgeous meat. Julie looked after us well!
b. g.
The best toby carvery in the leeds area. The quality of the food, and the standard of the staff and service they provide, is a credit to the management
r. “. l.
Good food and a good price. But can get very busy
