Reviews of Castle Hotel

To say I was surprised by the room considering the cheap price is and understatement. Granted my room couldn't be further away and took a bit of a hike with bad knees, it's so worth it. Check in was dome by whom I believe to be the manager/landlord was friendly and efficient. The way he speaks to the staff is worth the 5 stars alone. The staff that I met were pleasant and engaging. The bar is lovely. So much so I had to take a couple of pics. Which I never do. Great experience 👍🏻 👌 👏 🙌 😊

What a place, don’t over pay for good service, friendly staff.
Having gone to the Royal Oak for weeks on end we decided to try the castle as we have hear great feedback from freinds and family.
A few key point vs the Royal Oak.
It feel like a proper pub instead of a takeaway joint.
Staff were really attentive and attention to detail was seen from the moment we walk in massive thank you to Pam and Caroline who made the kids feel welcome and were first class when it came to customer service.
price for was 1/3 cheaper than the royal oak
food was by far better taster and hot
This place is a must visit and certainly turn a corner when it comes to food with a open fire and a friendly warm environment perfect for family who wants to make any meal special.

Stayed here for 1 night with my partner. The room was pretty cheep compared to other places nearby.
The room was okay, a little bit worn. The bathroom needs some TLC really, it was more like a hospital bathroom, it was dirty, looked a bit mouldy in places and there was cracks. The shower had stains too. We slept okay, the bed was nice and the room was warm with the heating on. The pipes were pretty loud tho all of a sudden there would be a loud noise and it woke me up at one point through the night.
We probably wouldn't stay here again for the night but we would come back for food and drinks.
The bar and restaurant was nice, all the staff were friendly and helpful. Food was cooked nice, we had a really nice meal there.
S. G.
Fabulous staff, great location, good food but very poor room quality. The staff were wonderful and with an actual castle in the back garden, it's a place of great potential but rooms are really disappointing
M. M.
As always a FABULOUS meal and service. We went for Fathers Day Sunday Lunch 2 days ago and it was spectacular. So much delicious food, great atmosphere, friendly service, dog friendly, so reasonably priced and awesome cocktails. We were served by Millie this time and she was awesome. We love the beamed ceilings and original architecture. Very comfortable and inviting and it feels like a real old school British pub. Beautiful grounds and the Castle right next to it is such a bonus. We’ve already booked my birthday lunch there in 2 weeks. You’ll never leave this pub hungry that’s for sure. It’s the only place we go now for Sunday dinner. Thanks again guys and see ya again in 2 weeks.

Amazing value, quality food.
Staff were all very personable and accommodating.
Great to see this place bustling and to find that certain areas are dog friendly - even though I don't own a dog, I love to see them in pubs! Good on you!
The toilets were immaculate.
Can't wait to visit again!

Shabby rooms is the only negative thing about this wonderful place. But personally it didn't bother me. The rest of the place is beautiful inside and out. The staff are fantastic and cooked breakfast delicious. Great choice of continental too. I love it here and cannot wait to return.
K. S.
Nice downstairs but rooms upstairs were dated & basic. Food was lovely, staff were welcoming & Jacob was cheerful & helpful. The bed were 2 singles together so a bit uncomfortable in the centre. Woken up at 7.20am with a fire alarm because the detectors are outside the bathrooms so a shower can set them off.
K. C.
I came here for an evening meal. The Guinness was good and the service was very good. Waiting staff were attentive and went out of their way to help. The soup of the day was delicious (tomato) however the main (Cajun Chicken Burger) was over cooked which is a shame. I would definitely go back but probably wouldn’t order the burger again.
S. B.
Lovely pub - we often come here for dinner and it's become somewhat our go to when in the area. The food is always good, the menu choice is great and staff is always friendly and accommodating! Have recommended to both family and friends and we always look forward to coming back!

Lovely hotel with friendly staff, spacious gardens and delicious food. Overlooking the castle.
S. G.
Really good food and good service. Our table had some issue with drinks orders not going through so our drinks were delayed, but otherwise the wait staff were very attentive. Beautiful cozy restaurant area, it was busy but it was a Saturday so as expected, definitely book ahead of time.
Π. Γ.
Went there for a business launch.
The restaurant were well decorated.
Food was delicious.
The staff were very polite.
The overall experience was magnificent
If you are in the area, you should visit this place.

Came here a few weeks back with some friends for their Sunday roast. Booking is advised as tried on the off chance before but couldn't get in but tis worth the wait.
Place is lovely, food was gorgeous and the lady that served us was amazing. We will definitely be coming back here again.
Keep up the good work guys and see you again in the future.
K. P.
Fantastic place. Lived here for 5 days. Friendly staff and super service! 5/5 stars from Denmark
A. I.
The Sunday roasts are amazing. I don't even like cabbage but it tasted amazing here. Too big to finish it all. Best Sunday dinner I have had in a while. Can't wait to go back.

Hi, visited the restaurant on Saturday evening 26th Feb, very busy, we were served by Layla, very pleasant young lady, credit to her parents.
Food was very nice and hot on arrival. All in all we had a very pleasant evening. Many thanks.
L.
The Castle Hotel has become my go-to place when visitors come to visit me! I really love the lunchtime menu with great offers and deals. Food is delicious too! Everyone that has come with me leave happy and full. Service is great too!
A. M.
We had our daughters baby shower there, it was lovely, good staff and helpful, good food. Can highly recommend it, will go there for an evening meal next chance we get. We'll done all!!
G. M.
Great location. Really nice and peaceful place to sit outside for a drink and food. I was a little disappointed with the wait for the food but it was one of the first very nice days of the year so I think it was a lot busier than they'd staffed for. Food was okay, my starter (calamari) was very nice, but the battered halloumi was nothing more than what I'd expect from a chippy. Very greasy. My brother, girlfriend and father also had mixed feelings with their food, although the tikka masala was very very nice.
M. M.
On Saturday I had a delightful meal with family I've not seen for a long time.. food was very good and the beer also, I would suspect this has lot to do with the deep sellers.. but what made the experience more delightful was Sim the waitress.. she never kept us waiting and always had a smile on her face..Thank you Sim for a great evening..
A. M.
Staff were friendly, but the wait was long. I think they actually forgot our mains before the server came to collect our plates and realised we'd only had a starters. She was lovely tho. The outside is a plesent environment. Overall its a good vibe and feels covid safe.
The food was the biggest dissapointment for me. The cost was about what I'd expect to pay but the quality didn't reach my expectations. The vegan burger (as you can see from my photo) I can't quite work out how to eat as the patte is twice the size of the bun. The bread is also harder than the patte. I like crunchy bread but in a vegan burger this causes the patte to turn to mush. This gave me the impression that whomever designed the menu didn't really sample the food themselves. The vegan kofta was alright, if bland. My friends were dissapinted in their starters too... it was a fancy crumpet. A cool idea but like my burger they were unsure how to eat it without making a mess.
Good experience nevertheless due to lovely weather, location, and staff. Unfortunately we went for a meal so the quality of the food is the primary concern.
M. K.
Absolutely amazing experience. We had a massive group booking of 12, they let us decorate around the table and even helped. All the staff were really helpful and friendly. Food came out so fast and piping hot. And not to forget simoae and Steve who looked after us whilst we were there, they were amazing! Definitely going back!
M. W.
Lovely place. As always there aren't enough bar staff serving beer and the beer is on the expensive side. Red hot bank holiday Friday. 1 member of staff. Makes no sense.
A. S.
Thank you for a lovely meal, with great staff in your alcove for my family on my 80 th birthday on the 22nd March 2022.
Most appreciated.
Will certainly be back hopefully soon.
All the best. Mr Alan Smith and Family. 👍
I. A.
The food was very nice and pretty reasonable priced with the supper club offer. The accommodation was OK, clean but basic. Good value for money with the breakfast included.
J. C.
Good price-Room was ok but quite old fashioned and decor needs a major face lift.
Walls paper thin and could easily here the couple next door having ‘fun times’
C.
I really like this pub, always a nice atmosphere and friendly, quite a homely feeling BUT really need to work on the vegan options, very poor selection and not really great quality compared to the regular menu.
G. W.
Had a really nice meal, the waitress that served us was excellent and it was a reasonable price. Would definitely go again
D. M.
Spot on. Very good menu, excellent staff and food well cooked. All in a lovely location.
c. v.
The food, wine and service were all excellent and the Garden looked lovely so I’ll definitely visit again on a nice day

Well, what can I say other than thank you so much Castle Hotel for making our wedding day such a wonderful experience! My husband and I first heard of the venue from a friend who has attended a wedding here, and commented how lovely the food and décor was. After arranging a visit to the venue’s wedding fayre, and speaking with the wedding coordinator, we both felt enthusiastic about venue organising a wonderful day for us and our guests. We were so impressed we didn’t even view anywhere else – this was perfect! After reviewing the packages, we were incredibly impressed with what was included and the excellent prices! We had looked at other packages elsewhere (where you even had to pay extra to borrow the cake knife!) and loved that the signature package we chose was so generous. We did have a few hiccups with changing of staff, but the fantastic manager Paul quickly put our worries to rest, sorting out everything and keeping in close contact with us throughout the process. I literally cannot describe the efforts he went to in making our day as special as it was. He was so attentive to all details and made my husband and I feel like royalty. Several of our friends and family also commented how lovely he was. Whatever I needed, he was on hand to help (even in assisting to carry my ridiculously long train!) and sorting out any last-minute dramas. On the day, the room was decorated absolutely amazingly – all my fussy plans and decorations had been beautifully arranged just as I hoped. We made our own centre-pieces but the venue were able to help with this if needed. In terms of the food, it was PHENOMENAL. So many of our guests said how out of this world the wedding breakfast tasted, stating it was the best wedding food they had ever had! The huge portions for the guests meant that the evening buffet was far too much to eat, but the quality and taste of the food was fantastic. Some people are now going back to the castle hotel for birthdays and events because of it! Everyone had a wonderful time, and the venue was everything we wanted and more. The added bonus of the Kirby Muxloe castle being literally just around the corner meant we were able to take some truly stunning photos. Our photographer was thrilled! I would highly recommend this place as a wedding venue for any future bride or groom - you are in safe hands! A million thanks to Paul, and all the staff at Castle Hotel, for giving us a wedding day we always dreamed of.
E. B.
The food was very good, the staff were nice and the atmosphere was cosy; I really enjoyed the place!
J. B.
Lovely place with super friendly staff. Food is always good and there is plenty of park at the back.
C. B.
Very nice local pub / hotel / restaurant in Kirby Muxloe. Only 25 minutes from Leicester. Beautiful location next to the Kirby Muxloe Castle.
Great meals and very comfortable rooms. Terrific staff and service.
Can get very busy so bookings on the weekend a must.
C. F.
It a great place for a mixed grill
I like my stuff well done all the time well done and I am still here 😅
K. S.
We stayed over Christmas and found the hotel extremely friendly and good value for money. Paul the manager was very welcoming. However the room we stayed in though clean and comfortable is in need of refurbishment. I understand this is planned hopefully when we returnas we hope to, this will have been done.
v. r.
Great service, polite welcoming staff, great service, attentive manager who seemed to be doing his best to ensure everyone was happy. Food was tasty, menu choice was good for adult meals but unbelievably varied for children's meals, I've never seen so many different options on a children's menu. Definitely not just standard nuggets, chips and beans. This is only the second time we've eaten here in the last 2 years because we aren't local but we will definitely be returning next time we are visiting family in Leicester. Thanks for a great afternoon.
M. G.
Lovely setting and amazing food to boot, good choice of gluten free on offer as well
D. W.
Two adults and 10-yr old having lunch in June 2019. We were staying at the B&B next door and needed a late lunch before going to an event in Leicester. Staff were helpful and the food was good quality at good prices; although an innocent mix up with the bill saw us charged full price even though we ordered off the reduced Lunch menu, before the mistake was quickly rectified. Would recommend, and would visit again if we were in the area.
G. M.
Thank you Becca and Paul for a lovely stay at The Castle. Dinner was delicious with lots of tasty dishes to choose from. The sausage roll starter was epic! My room was great, the bed was really comfortable, I slept really well and there was plenty of hot water in the morning for the powerful shower. Breakfast was fantastic and all of your staff made me very welcome. I'm looking forward to staying with you again soon.
H. W.
Brilliant atmosphere, with delicious food warm welcome every time
T. D.
Stayed here for a night lovely location staff all very friendly and helpful the food was excellent had a evening meal and breakfast nice break Paul the manager very good was telling us about the refurbishment all good and clean .
M. M.
Overall a relaxing experience lunch and dinner as well as a room for the night a short break away from the norm . Complete with our own fire alarm at 7 am because someone down the hall decided to set it off .. was cold outside in the AM.
d. m.
Stayed here for the weekend, friendly staff, very helpful, lovely beer garden, rooms clean and have everything you could possibly need (ironing board, iron and thankfully an electric fan, as weather was extremely hot this weekend), good food, and round the corner from the hotel is kirby muxloe Castle (no pictures of hotel but these are the castle
B. J.
We weren't expecting much when we booked but we couldn't have hoped for a better deal. The evening meal and breakfast were excellent. The staff were very friendly and efficient. The car park is huge so no worries about parking. The location is great too, very easy to find in a quiet village, close to the park and ride if you want to go into Leicester. All in all extremely good value.

We went to the Castle Hotel 24/7/21 for a Birthday/reunion with friends, and stayed overnight. Room was well equipped, even had fan and iron. It was clean and very presentable.
At Saturday lunchtime and afternoon we were dealt with by Shirley, Sim and the rest of the team. Nothing was too much trouble, and we had a great experience and a real laugh.
The evening meal was fabulous, both quality and service. (Many of the same team on)
Again nothing too much trouble.
Definitely a to do again soon event.
Good nights sleep and stay in the room and into the restaurant for breakfast. How nice to be greeted by another great team, led by Caroline with Pam and the others.
Yet again friendly service, nothing a problem and a laugh to start the day.
Overall a 10 star experience that we'll be repeating very soon.
Thanks again
J. S.
The bar & restaurant were lovely spaces. Breakfast was fantastic. We stayed overnight on one of the hottest days of the year. Unfortunately the bedroom really let the place down. It was very small, very dark & very hot. The windows were small & there was no air able to circulate. I appreciate nothing could be done about the weather but there was no offer of a fan. Would certainly return to eat but not stay.
D. C.
Nice environment, food was to a good standard and the staff were polite and attentive.
A. A.
Great welcome, very good food, a choice of continental breakfast as well. Really good place.
K. S. K.
The venue is lovely in this small village. However the food was a little disappointing. I had something from the autumn game menu, but didn't really impress me. Mr partner had the Cambrian lamb rump which she found quite tough and gristley.
R. E.
Lovely place to stay. Staff very friendly. Rooms clean and nice. Food delicious.
J. C.
Stayed for 4 days
Small rooms but cozy
Food is good, service excellent.
H. P.
Came here for dinner and to stay the night as my Wife and I were working locally.
We called ahead to make a booking and from start to finish we were delighted we did so.
The staff were professional and friendly throughout our stay. Dinner was a lovely affair the food beautifully cooked.
The room we stayed in was very spacious and clean. The prices were very reasonably so we shall stay here again when next working in the location.
We took a beautiful walk around the castle after dinner which was magic as I was born here.
D. R.
Excellent service and food. Rooms need refurbishment which is apparently due in May. Would be happy to return.

Stopped off after shopping trip with the wife. Food was fantastic great surroundings.

Brilliant hotel. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly and the staff could not have been more accommodating. We stayed as a family of 9 (2 under 2) while attending a wedding nearby. We had booked 4 double rooms which were immaculate if a little dated. They moved my son and his young children to the bridal suitel at no extra cost so that the lttle ones had room to run about. We only ate on one night but the choice and value for money was fantastic as was the food. Breakfast was outstanding and they couldn't do enough for our large, noisy party. Special shout out to Caroline and Pam who kept us all happy. Excellent, good value little hotel. This was our second stay and we will be back.
L. D.
A very big thank you to Caroline and staff for an excellent stay and beautiful food..
Our room was lovely and clean but the bathroom could with a little brighting up..our bed was sooo comfy and lovely fluffy pillows 10/10.
We had a beautiful meal, we hadn't booked but they found us a table very quickly, the serving staff were very friendly and polite..
Breakfast a great choice to choose from... walking into Breakfast we were greeted by a lovely lady and nothing was to much trouble..
100% recommend a stay here.. we'll be back soon..
Thank you
D. N.

Lovely, dog friendly hotel. We were made very welcome by the staff. Food good and room comfortable. Plus beautiful views of Kirkby Muxloe castle. Would definitely visit again
C. L.
Lovely hotel lovely area super service lovely comfy bed cj
D. P.
I had a chicken burger and piece of chicken inside was less than I would have given for a child's portion. My husband had beef burger which looked and taste as if it had been recooked. Nobody came to take our order or ask if everything was ok. Very much a lack of costumer service.
C.
Well cooked food generous portion using quality ingredients, staff very friendly.
K. S.
Great burns night supper menu, really lovely staff and service was fantastic 👌
A. N.
Great food good price, friendly welcoming polite Staff, and dog friendly

Only had a snack meal, but it was very tasty and fulsome.

Would we go again.........yes.

Comfy room and good breakfast. I now know the fire alarms work!

Fab beer garden, plenty of tables and space. Only umbrellas over tables, so not much cover from rain, but still a lovely experience. Excellent food, really good menu, great steaks!
s. “. b.
Lovely atmosphere with nice staff. Reasonable menu at ok prices. Food nicely presented and hot.
Would go again.
E. W.
Hi guys not sure if I did this right last time. But here goes again. My husband and I have been eating here for 10 years mostly great, we eat here appropriately every 2 weeks. But the last year it has not been great. The staff and service fantastic, but the food has let you down. Raw veg burnt lamb and today scallops that had a crunchy taste of sand. We never complain top the waiters (not their fault) and leave and my husband says never again. But I love the the place its beautiful clean staff friendly just cook needs a little work. So good luck guys will try again soon. As I too believe money should be spent in the local businesses to keep them going. Xx
P. P.
Friendly staff, spacious and comfy rooms. Great food and bar service.
I. M.
Haven't been in the Castle for about 18 months wasn't disappointed. Had a lovely meal with the wife couple of Guinness best food we have tasted in a while barring our own obviously.

Food is absolutely delicious 😋 been there twice in the space off 2 weeks- highly recommend 👌🏼

G. F.
Always a lovely relaxed place to visit and eat.
J. H.
Very nice meal and dessert. Excellent service from Sim and Paige. Will hopefully visit again!
D. C.
The staff are very very nice. The rooms are clean. The food was very decent, well served, and always with a smile. Bar lady was exceptional. That's important for me. The place generally is a tad shabby. Nothing that a little bit of TLC wouldn't sort out. The village is very pleasant too. It won't stop me going back. Keep improving
B.
Tiny room and very hot. Apparently I should have asked for a fan...not sure why the room didn't have one anyway as room 48 is known to be hot, given the grimace from the member of staff when I told her what room we'd been in. A disappointing, if rather well priced stay...I guess you get what you pay for.
A. J.
Really great food, spoilt for choice, attentive waiting staff (one in particular, I think the manager, was really good with my daughter), cosy and modern atmosphere. We'll be back! We had three courses.
M. L.
Good place for a quick drink, good atmosphere.
M. P.
Nice place and friendly staff, but too expensive, rooms need a makeover.
R. P.
Comfortable rooms, excellent food (dinner & breakfast), pleasant and welcoming staff and nice beer garden. All good for us on cycle tour. Thank you.
R. D. O.
Sunday roast was excellent, we were very well looked after. We will definitely be visiting again in the not too distant future.

Fantastic lunch today looked after by Becca, one of my favourites places to visit with family when they are in town, Covid safety is brilliant and the food fantastic.
Thank you everyone really happy being back to the castle.
C. D.
Really lovely place to eat and drink. My in-laws always stay here when up visiting and love the accommodation too.

My husband & I stayed for 2 nights over the August bank holiday weekend. Our room was small & basic. The decor was dated & tired looking, However it was very clean. Breakfast was a self service continental style. There was a good, unlimited selection on offer. There was also a cooked breakfast menu which was cooked to order. Both were well presented and very nice. We had an evening meal in the restaurant during our stay which was also lovely. All staff were pleasant, friendly and very helpful.
G. B.
Fantastic food with great service
j. r.
Had fantastic pre birthday meal. Staff wonderful (put a candle in the dessert lol) and very helpful, food divine. Wouldn't hesitate to go again
k. s.
Enjoyed the wedding here good atmosphere to have a good time
J. B.
got served by the amazing layla who’s was perfect like usual
J. T.
Lovely meal at The Castle, Kirby Muxloe. Vegans are spoilt here with a choice of five different mains! I've tried most of them and can highly recommend the lentil cottage pie which I had tonight. Chef's garden bowl and the mushroom and ale pie are lovely too. It's a treat to have this many choices. Thank you.
R. P.
It's always hard to get a reservation here or a spontaneous meal here it can also be hard to get a table. It's always popular. And I have to drive 30 mins to get here and disappointed that there is never a table. Aside from that I absolutely love the food here. I always get the same dishes and I'm never disappointed. Halloumi and chips with beans. Great sized Halloumi. And the chocolate fudge cake and custard 🤤🤤🤤🤤 I love the chain chef and brewer. Outdoor seating is available. Great for family too
S. J.
The breakfast and evening meals were a good standard, very friendly staff.
Our room could do with updating though.
B. H.
Went for dinner in the restaurant, very good food, decent portions and some good deals if you sign up to the newsletter. The waitress was very nice to us giving us plenty of time. Only criticism was the cost of a pint.
C. S.
Very accomodating to the 6 adults, 1 x 4 year old and 1 x 8 month old as a late booking on a Sunday, the Sunday roast meats were succulent and the accompanying vegetables were sublime. Highly recommend the stuffed Yorkshire pudding if you have room for another one seen as they're all rustic and good sized. Burnt ends were tender and moist and the gravy is rich and well seasoned with the merlot giving it an amazing depth.
M. R.
I had my granddaughters christerning celebration at kirby Castle .
I would like to give a massive thank you to Tina and staff for the buffet which was very nicely presented also making it a stressless afternoon,I would definitely recommend anyone to have there celebration there.once again a big thank you all xx

The service was great, the waitresses who served us was great and knowledgeable. The lamb shoulder was like butter, my wife's nut roast was delicious. The serving were massive and I may have gone into a short coma to digest the sheer amount of food.
The setting of the restaurant was nice too.
S. W.
I'd give this place 15 out of 10 if possible. I had a cozy, quirky little room in this very old pub, but it had everything that is needed (even an iron and board in a corner cupboard!). The bed was super comfy, the HUGE bathroom with over bath shower was fab. Shower not power-shower but loads of HOT water and easy to use. The towels super large and soft. The staff are wonderful, the menus sound great and not expensive, tho I only had breakfast. Found this place by accident, but am determined to treat myself to a weekend here!!!
I. P.
Good coffee. Lovely seat near the fire. Friendly staff.
S. D.
What a lovely place to spend a rainy afternoon, cosy and welcoming. Food was amazing as was the service. Will definitely be back when we visit Leicester.
m. t. (.
Love the place, the atmosphere and the food.
P. R.
Absolutely superb yet again 👏great food and staff 👌highly organised in these covid times, so very well done 👏 will DEFFINATLY be back (if you want good food in impeccable conditions, and be served by VERY NICE STAFF 😀Give the Castle Hotel a try!!!!! You will "NOT" be Disappointed
I. R.
Welcomes well behaved dogs, in the hotel, restaurant and down to breakfast. The staff are friendly, welcoming and accommodating. The food in the restaurant is excellent and so is the service, even on a busy Friday evening. Would happily stay here again. Our only regret is that we didn't stay longer.
J. M.
Very pleasant staff . Food was lovely. Overall a very good food . The room was comfortable. We had the family room which lovely and spacious . The down side is THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO HOT WATER . I asked for abit of compensation for the inconvenience but was refused as the receptionist said he has taken the money and could not refund as he would not know how too,! He said the water was on now at 9.30 am and we have till 11 am to check out so could have a wash now as there is lots of hot water ! I could not believe my ears . Nobody in the hotel had got water . It is not what we paid for. Having a relaxing soak or shower is as important as your bed . Really odd attitude to have with your paying guests. Not therefore recommended for this attitude towards a big problem that day .
J. D.
Nice cosy atmosphere, friendly, helpfull staff, room was very nice, would highly recommend, and the food was outstanding,,5 stars
S. F.
Looked good on their website and the price was right for us. The experience, however, was disappointing. Indifferent reception at the bar with three mistakes made on the invoice to room. Service at the restaurant poor. After ten minutes I had to get up to request that our order be taken. The service was slow and we experienced three service waiters. The food, when it eventually arrived, lacked any flair. There were few people in the restaurant. The decoration in the en suite left much to be desired. Humidity was obviously a problem but then the extractor was caked with dust and dirt. There was a dangerous fluctuation with shower temperature. The booking system was good and the lady on reception was efficient.
D. S.
Lovely meal. Excellent staff
D. S.
Nice service and drinks thank you
N. T.
Great boxing day meal. Lovely service.
M. “. A.
Enjoyed our stay. Staff were friendly, food was great and rooms were comfortable. Nearby park and ride was perfect for our trip into Leicester and close to the the M1 for onward travel. Nice setting with the castle behind so never felt like being in the city.
a. k.
Excellent value for money good breakfast. Evening meal menu selection very varied. Special offers on wine on Fridays, bottle of prosseco £10. All staff pleasant and hard working. Very good atmosphere in a busy environment.
J. F.
Had a fabulous Festive Meal, tasty fresh food , delicious.
D. C.
Absolutely brilliant, throughly enjoyed it
Staff and food were fabulous. Will definitely go again and will recommend friends and family 👍
J. C.
it was a great wedding celebration. venue is great .evening food provided was fabulous.
However, the room we stayed in. no 52... we didn't sleep well at all... unsure of what the noise was but oh my word.... horrendous.... staff ? not trained in customer service.... except one barstaff who was superb and so helpful.....
shame

Went on Sunday when weather really nice and warm. Lovely garden and tables set out at back - more formal decked area and then out onto grass and seating. Can see glimpse of castle next door. Pub, restaurant and decor nicely done out. Staff friendly and did not have to wait too long for food. Only downside was that two of hand pump beers were off - although still left another two and one of the starters we wanted was not available, but the one we changed it to instead was very nice. great way to spend relaxing Sunday afternoon and seemed good for families and dog-friendly too with bowls in garden filled with water
M. S.
Its a lovely restaurant and bar and the wedding they catered for was fantastic!
All the food was beautifully cooked and presented and all the staff were very happy to help.
My only little niggle would be the fact we spent just under £80s for a room that wasn't very big at all and that's it. No breakfast was included in that. It was literally for the room, which again wasn't what I would say is £80s worth sadly. Minus that everything else was lovely!
N. F.
Very old pub building backing onto the original Kirby Muxloe Castle. Nice sized garden outside, with good inside bar and restaurant. They have a function room too and a hotel.
Good bar and good food (maybe 4 star for the food as it has a good selection but not as well prepared as it could be)
L. F.
I went with three friends for a meal and had a lovely evening. Helen and Julie couldn't have been kinder or more helpful, despite being short staffed. The food was very nice and much appreciated. Will be visiting again.
O. O.
I had a family meal here and would recommend you go here. For starters I'd recommend the butcher's block and the fisherman's catch. My family of 6 shared these two dishes between us. There was a good variety of food. All of the food was good quality. Out of all our mains the two I'd recommend is the beef ribs with pulled pork and the second being the ham hock. They were both very good dishes that my sister's enjoyed. Overall great friendly staff and brilliant food.
m. b.
Lovely food, friendly and helpful staff. Atmosphere was welcoming and helped everyone with covid details when entering. Thank you 😌
n. c.
Third time in a month food very good fresh cooked veg always good service friendly
D. J.
Lovely food nice atmosphere
a. c.
Visited because of a wedding reception. It was a lovely venue, the food was great with lovely staff serving it. The chef was also willing to go the extra mile for a picky eater. On the whole, we've thoroughly enjoyed our time here.
A. C.
The Castle is gorgeous. The walk around it is relaxing and the pub next to it is fantastic. The staff were very accommodating too.
L. C.
Friendly staff very fast drink service, lovely garden area plenty of seating, very nice relaxing place to be on a hot sunny day!
J. I. S.
We arrived at 2pm to check into our room on Valentines day, we had a late lunch which was lovely with generous tasty plate fulls, the valentines 3 course was fantastic (the steak was perfect) the room was a lot bigger than i thought it would be, the bed was massive and the bathroom very spacious, all clean with no problems and a good heating system, the shower was great with the big shower head and water pressure with lots of room so no hitting elbows. There was a good breakfast selection i couldn't decide what to have but ended up having the good ole full English.
Enjoyed our night away and would go back any time. Thank you to all staff and keep up the good work.
M. C.
Right next to one of my favourite castles, lovely place, we got a huge old corner room on the top, beautifully done up. The pub downstairs is very good so is the breakfast
R.
Overall it was okay but my room was a wee bit small and extremely hot. Chef wasn't around to make my breakfast on the first morning but the rest of the staff were very polite and accommodating. If I had a bigger room I would probably stay again.
D. C.
Lovely old building comprising pub and restaurant with a huge beer garden which is great during the warmer months. Decent food and drinks menus maintaining a good standard delivered to your table, friendly staff and tastefully decorated throughout.
T. W.
Big beautiful beer garden, friendly staff, clean hotel rooms.
Hotel rooms dated, but very good value.
Breakfast was good value too
J. K.
Fabulous food and lovely staff
L. L.
The staff were welcoming, very helpful, food was excellent. Pet friendly, my little dog was well behaved was constantly being fussed. Would stay there again & highly recommend it.
s. C.
Travelling on my on with my dog Dino.. Its the best night away I've had with Dino in a long time.. The staff very helpful and friendly and at Breakfast helped me with Dino.. The food on a busy friday night was quick and delicious.... The surrounds in the bar, rooms and outside was very welcoming and warm.
The manager was also very polite, helpful and has his customers happiness as his priority.. Thankyou for everything and I will be back and i have told the girls for the next show to book here..
D. D.
We stayed here going down and coming back and the staff were so friendly. Will more than likely stay there again when on a long trip south.
L. l.
Very nice food, fresh veg, friendly service, didn't have to wait long. Will visit again!
P. P.
Our waiter was lovely but couldn't find our booking and we had to remind them about our drinks order, food ok but lasagne was mainly pasta layers. Partners Hunters chicken was good and my chips were great.
F.
Great food but not as much choice for picky kids. Great atmosphere, will be back.
G. G.
Nice place to eat. Lovely in the summer to sit outside in the garden. Plenty of free parking, set in a nice village close to the Castle. Plenty of choices of food on the menu, not a chain pub so theres a lot of different things on the menu plus specials.
S. R.
Our stay was excellent for the price - £29 B&B although our room neighbours kept us awake half the night chattering and then some vigorous rhythmic noises coild be heard for a few minutes. Not the hotel's fault but the partition wall seemed a bit thin!
The food was generally excellent, however, the kitchen did manage to send out semi-frozen, uncooked whitebait. When this was pointed out the staff were genuinely horrified and the error corrected immediately. They even gave us a free bottle of wine by means of an apology. Breakfast was equally as good - we arrived too early but staff were accommodating and helped us get breskfast as soon as they were ready.
GREAT STAFF - VERY RESPONSIVE AND OVERALL A GOOD PLACE TO STAY.
C. A.
Great pub and a really nice place to stay
Very good meals
J. I.
Was there for my mother in law's wake. Very good food and service.
P. D.
We booked lunch for a large group on a busy Saturday. The staff were very good, dealing with complicated orders and splitting the bill between various families with no trouble. The food was competitively priced and of good quality.
M. B.
Had the most delicious Sunday lunch, and such good value for money - Well worth a trip 😋
L. H.
Lovely food great service and a lovely place to celebrate my birthday with my family
A. S.
Excellent place. Decorated to a very high standard. Nice pint of Harvest IPA. Good little snack menu on the table which sounded good for the price. £12.
However my reason for Four Stars is that fact that 1x Carling and Lime, 1x Harvest IPA and a Cider Shandy was £12.23.
And that's why the place wasn't busy. Which is a shame because if it was one of these better prices pubs £3 to £3.30 a pint it'd be the place to go.
I'll visit again. As I say the produce was yummy. But I'm a working man and can't afford to be a regular. Which is a shame.
D. E.
Excellent meal, and super service, would highly recommend. A+++++++
c. r.
Lovely food, very friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere. Lovely garden to the rear to sit in with the warmer weather and also close to the castle ruins which is lovely to take a walk around the moat and feed the ducks/carp (depending who reaches the bread first)
M. G.
Love this quiet little pub. Great ambiance and good food, especially the mixed grill. Never stayed in one of the rooms but we'll worth a visit for food or a quiet drink. Nice beer garden with views of the castle ruins.
K. S.
We attended a family wedding here in the Hastings suite and everything was great! The staff were welcoming and helpful. The food served on 2 buffets was excellent. And the DJ was good too.
M. L.
Lived in kirby most of my life & this place is set in stunning grounds, the castle ruins are right behind the vast garden & is wonderful on a summers day. Food can be hit & miss, most of what I've had has been good. The rooms need updating.
Service leaves a lot to be desired over the last 5/10 years, even if the place is pretty empty. Some of the staff are superb, others lacking. Beautiful place, has all the ingredients to be great again. Maybe with a little more attention to detail for the whole of the business. Well worth a visit.

Saturday 24th February 2018
Lovely time at the Castle Hotel
We visited the Castle hotel with our friends for a ‘catch up’ and evening meal. We received excellent service; the waitress’s and waiter were very polite, friendly and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble for them to help make our visit special. The menu was plentifully, the food was well presented and delicious and we did not have to wait long before we were served. We sat on table ‘one’ which was really comfortable and cosy, the ambience of the restaurant was lovely and the restaurant area was snugly warm. We shall certainly visit again for another meal.

Enjoyed good food and table service. Also stayed overnight. Good big room. Great shower.
K. D.
Great staff, couldn't do more for you. Nice food and rooms are very comfortable and clean although a little dated. Would definitely stay again.
J. B.
Small rooms, but pub itself is very nice, do some lovely beers, they have some quiet places to sit or you can sit in the busy area, staff were very nice, definitely be going back.
A. G.
Lovely place to stay beautiful setting. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Will be returning. Xx
k. d.
Got here late at check in but still got us a table to eat, really went out there way to make sure we had drinks and food, can not recommend this restaurant/ hotel enough your staff are really a credit to you, your all doing a fantastic job in these difficult times. We'll be back 100%
J. B.
Very nice and reasonably priced hotel. Staff make it, very friendly and very helpful. Special mention to the general manager (I think) who showed me to my room which was a nice touch, and special mention to the lady at breakfast who gave very personal service, called me by name and was a pleasant server.
r. w.
I wasnt happy with this place.
Unfirtunalty I felt one of the bar staff was very rude in his manner not sure but think he could have been the manager .
L. A.
Relaxed, historic yet modern restaurant serving 'gourmet burgers' among other things. Service friendly and efficient. Clean surroundings. Outside the pleasant garden area looks on to the ruins of Kirby Muxloe castle. Free parking on site.
V. T.
Originally the farm for the castle next door, this pub hotel provides clean rooms, decorated to a level in keeping with the modest price - ideal for the average visitor. The gem here is the pub restaurant, hosting a superb vegetarian range alongside pub favourites, and plenty of local ales and wines to choose from. Excellent food! Under-reported is the lovely moated castle just 3 mins walk (literally 50 meters at the rear) maintained by English Heritage and free to walk around the grounds even during the evening. Close to Bosworth and other historic sites, and just off the main road to Leicester. Recommended!
n. r.
Mum and I stopped here for a short 2 night break at the Castle hotel..On arrival, we found it so easy to find..the car park was spacious..The staff were so friendly and helpful..room lovely, food amazing (including the specials).
We had a trip into Leicester city shopping and then visited Bradgate Park, which was well worth the visit. Absolutely stunning...We've had a lovely time.
L. S.
Great gluten free menu, friendly staff. Nice garden, lots of seating indoors and out.
M. G.
Lovely pub, restaurant . Credit to Chef and Brewer. Very busy festive period lunchtime nothing to much trouble. Food excellent and service exceptional.
J. M.
The food was very nice, cooked perfectly. The staff were very friendly and attentive, we were checked on several times and drinks were brought in a timely fashion. Would definitely recommend for a quiet meal in a place with alot of character.
G. T.
Nice food and friendly staff
k. r.
Absolutely amazing night out
We have been to the most expensive Michelin starred restaurants and I cannot say this place beats the hands down for different, superb, gorgeous meals and initiative thinking approached dishes. The staff were attentive, there when you needed then, not when you didn't
I said I never Go back, here I will snd I'm going back next week
Well done
P. R.
Good Food. Great Staff.
C. Y.
can be hit or miss. Nice setting and the restaurant is ok. Every time I have visited though the raised area near the bar has tables that are always full of empties and finished dinner plates. Its like the area gets forgotton about till the end of the night.
S. P.
Lovely little country pub with great staff.. lots of GF options x
P. H.
Visited with friends for dinner and drinks. Meal was very nice with all five of our party saying the food was well cooked and presented. Our only concern was the speed of service, which we all thought was a little slow.
J. T.
Nice pub. Big beer garden. Bar service can be a bit slow. Drink selection is OK, only a couple of real ales usually but the wine, spirits and lager selection is pretty good.
S. P.
Friendly staff, nice menu, including the specials. Seemingly less choice on a Sunday. Shame they were out of the guest ale.
j. h.
We had sunday lunch at the castle kirby muxloe the service was great and in my opinion the sunday trio roast dinner is the best around
K. K.
Great value, lovely stay, enjoyed a very cilivilised and good quality breakfast. Thanks guys, see you again.
T. S.
We have had a lovely stay over the weekend staff were great and the new owners are so very lovely food was fantastic. Very happy to come back for another stay over thanks again Tracy Matt 💖
S. A.
Normally really good but as the phone wasn't being answered we just turned up without appointment. Unfortunately an hour wait and then we overhead that sunday roast had run out. Not the restaurants fault but if the phone had been answered we could have saved a trip. Will still be going again though.
r. m.
Great food, lovely building and the best staff, what is there not to love about the castle hotel, I will definitely be staying back here and enjoying their lovely food again in the future, great customer service.
A. R.
We booked here because they kindly gave us a room in which to have a meeting with friends from different parts of the country. Comfortable but very cramped, just about walk around the bed! Nice garden at the back in which to sit when the weather is good. Play area I recall too.
M. “.
Excellent and friendly staff.
Clean, comfortable and well equipped room.
Excellent value.
Will stay again when I return to the Midlands.
Scoobie/ Rolo also thoroughly enjoyed all the attention he got from the staff!!!!
C. S.
They have a dog friendly area! Plus nice food.
L. A. (.
Lovely place with good food for a good price. Waiters are all super friendly and the manager can always be found on the floor working hard. Upstanding Place.
R. B.
Very sad I have visited the Castle on several occasions but the food this time was not to standard.
Belly pork fatty plate very greasy. Non existent presence of accompanying veg. My husband had a tasteless rice dish. Daughter with us and this is her second poor meal in less than month at the Castle. What has gone wrong!! Won't be returning.
G. H.
Good food great service served with warm and friendly staff
L.
Friendly staff, not one bad meal
L. B.
We booked the function room for a family birthday. There were 30 of us. The food was delicious and the staff really helpful and friendly - especially with the children. Would recommend.
D. W.
Great food, beyond what I expected, service on the slow side due to being under staffed, however the staff working on Friday May 17th were excellent. Obviously run of their feet, but kept smiling and serving.
k. s.
Nice place to eat friendly staff and good menu including specials. Easy disabled access from flat car park. Popular place can get busy at weekends, wise to book at these times
D. D.
Excellent friendly service food was really nice, restaurant and services spot on. All in all 100%. Well recommended
M. J.
The sticky toffee pudding is to die for :)
S. P.
Friendly helpful team who always make their guests welcome. Dogs are welcome to in their specific dog friendly rooms as well as in the bar (not in their restaurant). Food is simple but tasty.
j. s.
Looks lovely pub but didn't end up staying as they were fully booked. Have now booked to visit for my B'day in a couple if weeks time.

Cosy, warm , great food and staff.
S. W.
Cute pub with fun decor that juxtaposes modern and historical. With Kirby Castle so close by, it's the perfect place to have a little walk, see the ducks, then tuck into a Sunday roast. I would definitely come here again.
A. B.
Fantastic place food is always great, had christmas lunch here today and it was amazing
Staff are great and the new manager and manageress have really made massive improvements I would highly recommend this place
S. T.
Visit here quite regularly for food as it's not too far away. Food is generally excellent and very tasty, service can sometimes take a while if busy, but generally it's a great place to eat with great staff and a good choice of meals.
K. W.
Very nice service and beer, lovely garden and the girls and boys working in are brilliant
S. G.
Came for Fathers Day lovely meal. Fantastic steak. £4:05 a pint of hand pulled ale far too high a price to pay.
E. J.
It was okay but not amazing! We had to wait for a while to be served and we had to get our own menus. The place was not particular busy
M. P.
Lovely location on village and close to motorway, and not far from the city centre. Room was basic but everything worked and was cleaned. Staff very helpful and friendly, and the ale I had was kept well. No complaints.
K. P.
Food was really nice. Lovely place to come for food and drinks
D. W.
Very beautiful place lovely setting with garden overlooking castle. Nice decor & friendly atmosphere. Good value food what's not to like? X
E.
We sat in a beautiful beer garden on the hottest day in April.
I drank a pint of perona as my girlfriend sipped her passion fruit kopperberg.
As the breeze swept across th garden we were delighted to witness a blossom cascade from the trees.
S. C.
Good food good service good prices

Go to the castle often, the meal is always lovely and well presented. The staff are very pleasant, friendly and very organised.

Nice place to eat out, with lots of outdoor space if its a pleasant day. Has a varied menu and drinks selection and service is usually good.
D. P.
Lovely sunday lunch. Nice staff and good service. Reason for 4 stars is sometimes had to wait a while for drinks but wouldnt put us off.

S. w.
Good food, nice atmosphere, managing all the social distancing stuff really well 👍
G. W.
Lovely, great food and great service will definitely be going there again.
J. K.
I think this is a franchise pub but still has a nice "homey" feel to it. Open fire, large beams in the roof nice menu and comfortable bed.
D. R.
Great service. My room was a little smaller than I was expecting. And tour was adequate. But the people could not do more for us.
R. B.
Very hot resturant area. Book in advance, long wait for food and service. I had the Lasagne but it's the first time I've had it without pasta in it
J. N.
Excellent meal. Nice surroundings. Really pleasant and helpful staff
Hope to go again.
G. O.
Very good service and fantastic food at very reasonable prices. We use the castle hotel a lot.
A. G.
Bit small in places for a person as tall as me, but the staff were friendly and the food top notch
J. N.
Better than average Sunday lunch, due to the slow cooked lamb and beef dishes. Service struggled a bit while we were there, but was always friendly.
S. R.
Very friendly lovely place Fab food I had steak couldn't finish so filling. Will definitely be back
A. J.
Absolutely perfect, great food, staff are wonderful. And with a Castle at the end of the garden its magnificent

k. b.
Nice food nice place though you sometimes have to wait a little while for service. Will definitely go again.

Loads of vegan options on the menu.
D. A.
Lovely meal very tasty and hot .
M. F.
Have visited this hotel before a few times, always enjoyed the experience until the last occasion when I found the quality of the food and it's presentation had dropped.
C. N.
There were a few things off the menu because of bank holiday but the sea bass was fantastic . Service was excellent.
c. o.
Slow to serve up main course but gave us desserts for free to make up for it! So overall not bad
G. C.

Great place to stay while meeting friends. Really good value including a breakfast
E. M.
Great meal lovely staff would go again
M. J.
Good food, good service, nice venue.
C. W.
Seems slightly more apathetic than previously. Not very good value for money and no ownership of complaints. Agreeing with customers complaints doesnt make it any better. Poor at the minute
S. H.
Nice pub garden. There is also a dog friendly section indoors too.
M. W.
Really good food
