Reviews of Cow and Plough
I. I.
Me and my friends visited here last night for some food and drinks, it was beyond phenomenal. We had such a great time and the food was exceptional, the best food I have ever eaten in a pub. Thanks to Gareth, Ben and their team for such a great night!
B. S.
Food is always great here. Friendly staff and good portion size.
F. N.
Awsome pudding, friendly hosts and plentiful seating. Dog being allowed is amazing. In the summer the outdoors is great. Good food and atmosphere for kids files and all.
B. J.
Excellent place for food with great staff and good choice of local beverages like Billy's Ale. I would certainly return and would recommend to others.
P. C.
Good breakfast, but the price has gone up and portion size down and it is extra for toast and beans. You are competing with the likes of Pennbury farm and they are better value now. Come back the days of unlimited filter coffee and decent breaky for £10 to attract your regulars back.
d. B.
Very quaint but our table was on a sloping floor and our glasses kept sliding down albeit slowly!.
Staff did not seem to want to be there and were just about doing their job of taking orders, going through the motions though. They did not really listen either and my fish was awful for the price and mushy peas were too salty. Disappointed!
L. B.
Best pub Sunday dinner I've had for a long time. Average price and absolutely delicious. Pork and lamb well cooked and perfectly cooked vegetables for my taste with nice thick gravy.
Friendly, family atmosphere with large bar area and restraunt seating. Good selection of beers.
Just outside of the bustle of the city, this will now be a favourite of ours.
A. R.
Nice place. Good food. Good beer.
T. H.
I was disappointed with our lunchtime meals. They were just warm and my own meal was not as the menu said which was the cheese on toast with thick bread and it came on normal sliced bread. Not up to the standard when we went before Xmas.
R. D.
Nice decor in a well upkept farm. loads of dining space. food menu is alright and has some nice options. had the fish and chips and the batter was a little too thick and oily unfortunately.
L. D.
Good food and good service however was a bit slow. The menu was very small but apart from that, it was very nice 😊👍
It would be nice if the staff wore face masks. There was only one member of staff wearing a mask when covid cases are very high
#.
Surprisingly empty this time of year in the dinning room. Bar was busier. No covid rules. Staff wore masks, some people did as well when walking about. Mains were very tasty and fresh, but deserts tasted like they were a few days old.
M. W.
Great pub, would recommend popping in for a drink after a nice country walk.
We visited with friends this time. The food service was a little slow, but the barman said there was a large table being served and taking up the kitchens time. We waited nearly an hour for a burger and fish and chips while our friends veggie burgers came out withing 25 minutes. I'll put this down to it being a Saturday, and a badly timed order due to it being a little busier than the last time we were there.
J. E.
Wonderful meal tonight here but disappointed by the tiny portion of the dessert. £6 for a slither of Yule log about 1cm thick, advertised with Bailey's cream but no trace of Bailey's. Recommend the steak but will give the desserts a miss in future!
W.
Visited here recently for Sunday Lunch and had a great time. The restaurant is fab and the food is even better. Although slightly on the expensive side it is certainly worth a visit!
L. S.
Came for Sunday lunch today, took a while to be acknowledged by staff after entering.
Had a table at a specific time, was told to take a seat in the bar area and was seated 15 minutes post alloted time.
Food was average for the price, not very high quality at all and have made better at home.
Depending on where you are sat you may be quite cold, I did not take my coat off throughout the meal due to this.
Overall staff were quite abrupt and seemed to want to rush you.
Would not go back.
C. S.
The food here was amazing, as was the customer service. An especially nice touch was the manager coming over for a quick chat about your day and your meal and such. Really nice atmosphere as well.
E. J.
Amazing food, fantastic service. Couldn't ask for more. Would definately recommend thus place and hopefully will be able to come back. Scotland could use one of these.
M. C.
Excellent Fish and Chips cooked to perfection well worth the £15.95 price will be returning.
J. M.
Beautiful food and atmosphere fab staff
K. P.
We had our staff party at the Cow and Plough and what can I say it was amazing, there were 20 of us and nothing was a problem for the staff. We were sat inside and asked if we could sit outside as the weather was beautiful and straight the way this was sorted without no problem. The food was delicious and will 100% come back! Special thanks to Kipp and the team for making our evening extra special and going the extra mile.
H. D.
Great parking, nice old quaint building that used to be a farm previously. The original features are all there. Had breakfast here. Good meat and vegan options. Breakfast runs on saturday from 10 till 12.Had full english which was was presented in a modern and chic style. Portions are just right, not too much and not too little
G.
Amazing food and smokin Billy amazing too
Staff really friendly and helpful 👍🏻
K. B.
Food is fantastic for the price. The steak pie is superb, tasty and perfect pastry! The kids really rated the buttermilk chicken burger too! Will be back shortly!
M. C.
As always amazing good & great welcoming staff, great service & value, just what we wanted, relaxing atmosphere too, Definitely a favourite of ours 🍻🍽️
T. P.
Not eaten here for years, but always a nice place to catch up with friends for a quiet ale.
D. R.
Nice cozy gastropub; hearty food and welcoming staff. Good COVID precautions and awareness too.
P. D.
Very dog friendly, the manager has doggie treats in his back pocket...beer is good...food good too....lovely place for lunch...close to Leicester ...the only problem is the traffic light controlled roadworks...which makes access difficult....but these will be temporary...
S. D.
Popped in early for a coffee. Friendly professional staff. Coffee is freshly ground and utterly delicious...second to none! Highly recommend a visit.
J. G.
A new restaurant but the menu was very sparse not much left when we arrived at 1.00 lunchtime but the place looks great
G. W.
First visit lovely food and staff were excellent.
M. B.
Food is still good, service was poor though - too many people booked in for Sunday lunch vs their ability to service.
Also the number of real ales has reduced - no guest ales for a pub that is known as a real ale pub.
M. T.
Lovely place with delicious food and colouring in for the children, would definitely be coming again
N. D.
Nice place bar staff are friendly had a good chat with them. Didn't eat there so cant comment on food but service is good you order on your table from q r code on an app. Will be there again soon.
P. M.
A very nice place. With plenty of parking. The food was very good and well presented. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
N. P.
The fish of the day was delicious - definitely worth another visit as the pie looked delicious too!
T. W.
I've had a soft spot for the Cow and Plough for years. Liked it when it was a bit rough and ready. These days its more posh, but in a comfortable, tasteful way. I dont drink real ale but this is the essence of what the Cow and Plough is about, and judging by the popularity I think they've got it right. I had lunch there the other day, due to my dietary requirements, l could only have the fish and chips. Unfortunately, rather disappointing, I failed to find much fish in the over battered portion. They would do well to take a look at how Grimsby Fisherys produce their fish, 5star. On a more positive note, my friends had the steak dish, and it was tremendous. There was no social distancing at all throughout the pub. Staff didn't wear masks.
M. S.
I called in for a coffee and found the waitress very pleasant and efficient
D. H.
We have visited this pub several times for family celebrations in big groups. Despite how busy the pub can get and it's size, the staff always manage to provide a quick and friendly service.
The food has always been good and a nice varied menu to choose from.
Good selection of beers and I would imagine just as good to just visit for a drink or two.
R. N.
Good to be back at a pub serving a really substantial lunch. Good quality food with a wide range of drinks which should satisfy choice. Covid aware signs and one way system matching other public places. Staff well informed on sanitizing procedures. *****
J. M.
Excellent food and nice atmosphere
Z. L.
Lovely traditional pub with fantastic staff. Part of a booking of 13 and they accommodated us brilliantly and were more than helpful. Caitlin in particular was very attentive and helpful. Food was great and came out in a timely manner. Would recommend to family and friends.
K. F.
There was a large group of us. Food had been pre-ordered and was brought out promptly and efficiently. Really good tasty food. Only minor complaint is that there were only cola available with added sweeteners, not sugar. I hate sweeteners and the aftertaste they leave behind. Would be nice to have all tastes catered to.
D. W.
I have been few times now and still not had a bad meal .
M. D.
A rather limited menu, made more so by a number of items being unavailable - but these things happen. I felt that the portions were rather small and thus overpriced. The staff were excellent: attentive, polite and courteous. Beware of the car park. Whilst there is ample parking, potholes abound everywhere and, naturally, are full of water given the continual rain.
A. S.
Lovely place out In the sticks friendly staff.plenty parking also outside seating.no meal this time.food looks yummy.
G. B.
Hot roast beef sandwich on fresh (Ginger bread bakery) crusty loaf and chunky chips with a pint of Steaming Billy real ale makes a perfect lunch time treat
I. M.
You can't really go wrong with the Cow and Plough. It's a friendly drinking place with decent ales and friendly folk behind the bar. Well behaved dogs are welcome, so it's an Ideal place to stop if you're taking a ramble. I've not eaten there but I hear it's very good.
L. K.
Just LOVE this place! Amazing food, fabulous drinks and wonderful staff.
Always an enjoyable trip out. Recommended for families as there is plenty of outside space for a little run around and great kids meals.
Equally good for groups or couples.
N. H.
I went to the Cow & Plough for a bite to eat on Friday night with a couple of mates. Nice, casual pub, known for its pies and good beer. Set in an old farm park building, it has a genuine countryside feel to it. You almost forget you're just outside Oadby. It's quiet, yet busy at the same time. There is outdoor drinking, and plenty of car parking available.
The staff were very helpful and friendly, the beef was good, and the food was great! I had a double stacked burger called "The Dog's" which came with two large onion rings, two chunky patties, pulled pork, and an egg! It was rather difficult to eat, but very nice!
Followed by a Lemon Posset, which too, was absolutely delicious.
We booked out table for 7:15, and I'd always advised doing so, as it does get busy here at peak times due to popularity.
Highly recommended for either a quiet date, a few beers and a burger with friends, or a family occasion.
J. P.
Waited 18 months to return and as normal food / service /atmosphere second to none and Sunday lunch is as good as my Nan used to make!!! The Gravy 🥳
M. W.
Amazing bar food and a very family (and dog) friendly pub. The restaurant is also always great value.
S. T. T.
Pub looks like it's set amongst farm buildings. Once you are inside it's great. Large with more than one room, so functions and large parties can run without interfering with others. Large fire kept the place warm on this cold January day.
We were there to taste the ales, 5 or 6 were on offer. They allow you to taste before you commit to buying a pint. Beer was kept well.
M. W.
Always enjoyed every visit to the Cow and Plough. This Saturday we went for breakfast, and what a treat!
Having been to many other places for breakfast and sadly having been disappointed, for example simple errors like soaked toast from wet mushrooms, the Cow and Plough offers honest sausages, perfectly cooked eggs, local thick, and possibly hand cut bacon and unlimited toast, tea and coffee. Fabulous. We had breakfast at 11.00 and didn't eat again until 8pm. Highly recommended.
M. v. K.
Easily my favourite pub in Leicestershire! The beer is always good, the food is great (we eat there at least once a week) and the staff are to be commended for how friendly and helpful they are; nothing is ever too much trouble. Genuinely love this place!
S. L.
Quick visit on a Saturday afternoon for a pint and a bite to eat.. Had a nice American Pale Ale on draft, and a Mexicana burger. Burger was not too pretentious and cooked to perfection, one of the best I've had in a while! The wife and kids were happy with their food too, only downside - it's not the warmest place on a cold winter's day!
M. O.
Not (yet!) tried the food here, but stopped here several times for "refreshment". Both the range and quality of ales are fantastic! The ability to consume refreshment in very pleasant surroundings, either inside or in outside, adds to the experience. I WILL be back!!
I. P.
Wonderful pub, bonus is that it's dog friendly which is grand for when my parents come and visit with the dog. I'm in there every few weeks regardless, it's a good atmosphere and you can often find a quiet alcove (as with most Steaming Billy pubs) to enjoy the afternoon.
N. V.
The food was gorgeous and the atmosphere is really relaxing, perfect for spending time with your family or friends. The service was really fast, both for food and drinks. The decor was really pretty, proper rustic. Overall, nothing to fault!
D. W.
Great pub, great beer n gin selections and a Sunday Lunch worth traveling 20 plus miles for. Staff are really attentive as well. Steaming Billy they do you proud.
J. L.
It's a really warm atmosphere at in an old converted barn / stable. We have enjoyed many a night here full of liquid induced debate.
The worst bits about the place is they will not serve food into the bar area when it's a short distance from the food part. They also stop serving to early on a Sunday. This aside, I still live the place but so will many more if they make some little changes to their rules...
N.
Came here on a Sunday for our work lunch. The food was amazing and staff were welcoming, friendly and accommodating. Caitlin in particular was incredible! Would definitely visit again!
B. M.
Had a baby shower here today. Excellent time and really friendly staff. They let us in early to decorate our area and made our whole experience fun and chilled. Food was very yummy too. Thank you all x
R. P.
The atmosphere is very good! what makes it even better is the service @ the restaurant (especially that Becky so genuinely polite). Hope she truly gets the recognition that she deserves. Make sure you book a table prior to going as it's always busy.
E. D.
Dog friendly, great decor, great staff. It’s a shame the menu (both food and drinks) is so limited.
S. P. U.
We had some problems with the food service (coming out at different times, and some dishes missing items i.e. Beef & Gravy Baguette missing the gravy). The manager was pleasent and helpful and resolved things satisfactorily. The food itself was lovely. Good welcoming atmosphere suitable for familys, friends or couples. Would definately go back.
B. P.
Went for wifes birthday and the service was exceptional. The food was well made and the atmosphere was very homely. When you enter the door, pub is a bit dated but the restaurant is refurbished. Have already recommended to everyone I know.
A. B.
Great value for money and lovely food. Would absolutely recommend this to anyone for Sunday lunch, particularly the pork. Bar food isn't great so wouldn't recommend eating on any other day.
The waitresses are one of the highlights of my visit.
M. S.
Great atmosphere lovely food great beers what more could you want
F. T.
Really nice, friendly helpful staff nice food and a decent pint. What more do you need.
A. G.
Delicious breakfast for lunch. Staff happy to adapt many many dishes for intolerances.
L. G.
Love this place, never disappointed, whether it's there Saturday Breakfast, evening meal, Sunday Lunch or steamin Billy's at the Races. Great for Ale drinkers & dog lovers, set in stunning surroundings.
Y. G.
Very nice food and laughing Billy! !
But only place I have ever been without a disability parking space and I have MS and find the car park uneven and dangerous for me to walk. for that reason I don't use the pub as often as I would like to do!!
R. H.
Excellent quality food and drink. Really good atmosphere. Attentive staff. Great value and family friendly.
R. B.
Our first visit to the Cow and Plough. Had a lovely lunch. The sandwiches were great and the chips were really good. Good, friendly service will definitely return.
A. S.
The food was amazing and the atmosphere is very welcoming. I strongly recommend it for dinner and lunch. The service was friendly and reasonably and it was not expensive well worth your money. It was fantastic.
n. b.
If you're after a quality meal and great beer this the place to go. Love it here and the food has never been less than spot on
I. H.
Went for an early Mothers Day meal and shared the T bone steak with my wife. We wanted chateaubriand but unfortunately they didn't have any. I'm glad they didn't, the T bone was fastastic perfectly cooked and presented. Highly recommended.
H. W.
Food was good but very slow service we as to chase up our food after 1and a half hour wait. Staff nice though and Good that it's dog freindly
T. B.
Delicious fresh food, friendly staff, nice busy atmosphere.
A. O.
Amazing food and atmosphere. Definitely recommend. Compliments to the Chef's/Kitchen Staff/ Bar Staff Restaurant Staff and Management. Keep up the fantastic work
P. O.
Great beer selection and excellent restaurant food let down by terrible service - well over 3 hours for a 3 course meal for 6 is not good. Recommended as a place to drink and eat at lunchtime - typical pub food menu.
u. u.
Great food, friendly staff. Lovely Sunday roast.
A. H.
Love this pub ...I don't really have anything else to say about it...👌👌
s. d.
Welcoming, traditional ales and delicious food
A. G.
We have been here probably 10 times. I think Saturday was the most disappointing visit. It used to be table service and I miss that. Food was ok but mains were slow and the desserts forgotten about altogether. Still ok, but not as good as in the past. Fingers crossed it was just an off day
G. N.
The chicken roast was fantastic! Lovely atmosphere and very friendly staff too!
B. F.
Great food, lovely quiet pub, accepts dogs, but could do with an "all the time" food menu or a better selection of snacks. Often I just want a bowl of chips or something but nothing available.
W. K.
Tatty, run down cow shed; I love it so much I got married there. Great beer, loads of space outside, really good food, dog friendly, great beer. Also, the beer is good.
S. R.
We only stopped for Birthday drinks. Location is ok although the car park could do with being resurfaced as there are too many pot holes.
S. H.
Very nice setting. Helpful and friendly staff. I had the southern fried chicken burger. It was alright but not much taste.
Y. M.
The food was good, however we ordered a desert which contained nuts which wasn't mentioned on the menu. Something to aware of.
I. S.
Food was superb and the beer super duper
R. N.
Really good beer, well kept.
Covid safe, very comfortable and staff going the extra mile.
j. h.

😁😁😁) will definitely visit again soon. Well done all x

Very good food, plenty of options for all.dietry requirements. Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff.
P. S.
Nice setting absolutely great for dogs
Portions too generous would be better if meals were smaller with price reductions or opportunities for shared meals
B. P.
Lovely Sunday lunch..pleasant staff and nice surrounding in the restaurant. Not so keen on the barn type building, felt cold as you walked through.
M. M.
What a cool pub! The ambiance was great, the food delicious and the staff exceptionally helpful and friendly
D. S.
A well run real ale pub. Long opening hours. Food served until 2.30 p.m. and again at night. Plenty of room inside and out.
L. B.
Sevice was a bit slow and veg came out after half the kids had finished their dinner. Maybe bring two meals and a veg when serving a big table
I. W.

Прилично интересно место со класична атмосфера на англиски паб/меана. Кога би одел пак во Лестер, пак би го посетил овој паб и би испил една пинта англиско пиво :-)

Треба некој од Лестер да ти каже за местото за да го посетиш.
