Wow what a gem, new owners and big changes, if you enjoy real ales open fire with local hospitality then I highly recommend this pub, a landlord that genuinely knows about the ales he serves along with taking the time to welcome each customer to the bar, what a pleasure to enter a pub that doesn't have every table laid out for dinners, not a vinegar jar in sight. a pub for meeting up with friends to chat and enjoy an evening, good luck and best wishes to the new landlord, and thank you for giving us a fantastic real ale pub back,

On a circular walk with friends, found the Dog & Gun by accident, due to Covid regulations not open for alcoholic drinks, but cup of tea available as a take out. Added bonus was Easter themed chocolate brownies available from a stall in the car park, BRILLIANT will be back. Thank you.

Visited this lovely country pub this evening and was thrilled to find a real gem. The ale was fantastic and the hospitality first class from the wonderful barmaid, Caroline, and the new landlord, Mark. So looking forward to their food offering once they've revamped the kitchen after the departure of the previous business owners, I can only see this beautiful pub going up and up. It's a Lovely family and a place to meet New Friends, they do Lovely Cooked Fresh Food and the Staff are very friendly and always welcome you as you go in the Pub, the owners of the Pub are out of this World, forgot to say they do Sunday Roast but you must book a Table and Takeaway food plus Delivery.

Hi have not been here for a while because of the covid situation, the pub has new owners now and has been revamped, new furniture looks fresh and clean, we all had roast lamb dinners which were delicious everthing was so fresh and home made very tasty compliments to the chef defo will be back to eat here again, and the staff were very welcoming and friendly.

Lovely old fashioned country pub, and the newly built outside area is a very nice place to be. I only wish I didn't have to drive to get there!

Power cut that day, apparently happens regularly. Bar person not good at adding basic numbers. The mouse running in a wheel struggled with the beer pump🤣. No hot food. +ve side poor mobile signal and was hot on the sun.

This was the pub to go to in 1977 when Scraptoft was part of Leicecster Polytechnic campus. Many a happy day spent here both in 1970s and more recently when I visited the Uk again. In my dimmed memory thetr was an enclosure with monkeys next to the pub ; or was it the next pub along :) Ironicaly ended up living in Keyham in Plymouth for a while but always had fond memories of the walk to the Dog and Gun.
