Reviews of The Ale Wagon
The simple fact that they evidently threw someone out for ordering a vodka Redbull is reason enough to come here. Apart from that it's a very traditional pub, with a wide variety of beers, some locally crafted. Made the mistake of ordering one of them, not my particular cup of tea that one, but each to his own. Sat next to a slow burning coal fire, enjoyed the experience.
Passing by? Pop in!
Fantastic selection of local ale
Beer brilliant. Toilets need updating.

An old fashioned pub, where they really care about the beer!
The inside is a little run down but, this all adds to the charm, there is occasionally music, but it's always quite enough to have a conversation.
The owner is nearly always behind the bar and makes sue that every pint is clear and of great quality.
Brilliant place to go if you have friend and haven't seen each other in a long time and need a good catch up.
Friendly service
Old fashioned
old fashioned pub with there own real ale from Hoskins brewery
Traditional pub with two bars and a wide range of locally brewed beers. Well work a visit.
Been on the to do list for a while beer selection almost all from Hoskins. Very much a pub to do on any tour of the city thou.
Definitely a niche hostelry in the best way. Wide selection of beers, good mix of Hoskins & guests. If you don't like your beer, arcane banter & no fruit machines it's probably not for you
Typical older traditional simple pub, basic plain interior popular with local drinkers. Good selection of Hoskins traditional real ales plus usual lagers. No food other than crisps, pork scratchings etc. Worth visiting for the Hopkins Beers.
Lovely place to come for a quiet pint. Staff are friendly and personable. Good for a change to fancy cocktail bars and pubs where they treat you like an unfashionable idiot - not that there are any places like that in Leicester - in thinking more about London.
An old stable drinking hole of Leicester. Good craft ales on offer but all the usual suspects too. Round the corner from Athena, Curve and the recently closed down Exchange. The place looks like it's never had a fefurb but in my opinion, I like it that way.
Good old fashioned pub with great selection of real ales.
Always a good selection of cask beers. Traditional pub, handy for the railway station, bus stops and the shops on Granby Street.
Traditional two rooms no-frills English pub with a great selection of Real Ales - including their own Hoskins (established 1877) beers - as well as Cider, Wine and Spirits. No music, no TV so no distractions from the serious task of enjoying a pint or two (maybe three....). Welcoming owners and staff.
Beer prices are moderate. Cobs and bar snacks are the only food options. It has a real coal fire - which on a cold, wet and overcast day like today is glorious to luxuriate next to whilst reading the Pub's newspapers. Well worth dropping in for an hour (maybe two) if in the area or, maybe, if going to the Curve Theatre which is nearby in the next street.
No car parking on-site but there is pay & display on-street parking in the surrounding streets also there is a multi-level car park only a short walk away (on Halford Street next to the Curve Theatre). There are bus stops nearby on Charles Street and Rutland Street.
A proper pub, with Real Ale and Real People!!
Finest ales for miles around, all true to type.
Best pint of 1664 in the town
Great friendly proper pub got a lot of carecter and a really good selection of real ales which the ones I had were top notch I will definitely try to visit at least once a month would definitely go a lot more but I have to travel from Nottingham
Love this place, we go here for our monthly meet-up and always find the drinks great and the bar staff friendly. Great atmosphere and nice little pub.
Good little drinking pub got some good beers on nice real ale on as well good price for to go for a few drinks with friends afternoon or evening
Best real ale in Leicester. The Hoskins beer is brewed at the Belvoir brewary from
Hoskins original receipes Belvoir brewary is proberly one of best in the country one more bit of imformation is to come to this pub around the end of summer when the Green and Gold bitter is on, the hops for this beer are grown in Leicester which is unique in its self .A real classic pub.
Very quiet, I wouldn't go in usually, pleasant staff and clean toilets
Open as normal as a wonderful real ale pub.
Orchard pig on tap is a big bonus, landlady was friendly and a laugh!
Was very good, not pretentious. And felt like a cosy place to catch up and be comfortable with mates.
I will say though, just a small thing, (don't let it put you off),the smell was not very pleasant when walking in; but soon wasn't noticed any more. Maybe a room fragrance needed
The pub opened in the 30s and quite kept the vibes, quiet on a Saturday night with a selection of craft beer and its own brewery is advertised to open in autumn 2017
Great local ales. Slightly quirky place but definitely worth a visit if you’re after excellent real ale.
Lovely traditional pub with nice atmosphere about it.
Lovely lady serving the beer, nice pint.
A nice friendly place with good beer.
A lovely pub within walking distance of the train station. Lovely atmosphere and reasonable prices for it's location in the city.
A traditional no nonsense pub. No TV Fruit Machines Pool Table etc. Friendly with Good Beer.
This is a superb traditional hostelry with great beer, I would recommend it to all who think a pub should be a pub!
Good selection of beers. Nice friendly staff to help you choose a beer that's right for you.
Great beers and knowledgeable bar staff. Not fancy just a genuine pub.
Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff, great real ale and lots of information of things going on in the local area 👍
A proper boozer, well worth standing outside waiting for then to open up first thing. Good range of beers.

One of Leicesters best pubs always good selection and barstaff on hand to guide on what's available
Friendly. Quiet. Really enjoyed the beer, must have lovely clean pipes! 😂
Decent old-fashioned pub with some very nice beers in cask and keg.
Tidy real ale pub in the heart of Leicester. Great beer and friendly too!
Any real ale pub is in my ok list, and we did go to try the Hoskins beer, bit disappointed, beers were a bit bland and the pub could do with a bit of a sprucing up.
Traditional Ale pub. Beers well maintained and good selection
The city needs places like this to link the past with the future. Relaxed drinking, coal fire and good ale. May it continue forever
One of the favourite pre match stop offs for real ale drinkers... great choices
Very basic pub, beer choice was pretty good though, could do with some tlc but was a nice place

Nice city centre pub. Nice ale. Golden glow excellent.
Cosy City Centre pub with a good selection of different beers.
Classic no frills old fashioned pub. No clever meal deals, you can hear yourself speak above the music and way way less shouty than any of the other city centre pubs. Great choice of beers for classic ale fans.
Nice friendly pub, great local ales and ciders
Late after vist to meet a friend. Had a group of 'regulars' in there, happy enough. Quiet & cheap alternative to brand names.
Real ale house! The smell of the place is amazing new so was alllll the beers!
