Reviews of The Blue Boar
w. t.
No doubt must visiting place if u like quality beer. Super welcoming & attentive staff. So friendly n lovely atmosphere. Great choice of beers, ales, cider etc. Very friendly customers happy to socialise if travelling solo. The fresh cheese & onion cobs are full of flavour. Definitely a pub to go to if ur in Leicester.
J. S.
The Blue boar dark ale was so good! And for £2.90 a pint, unbeatable. The cheese and onion cobs are enormous! It came with basically a slab of cheese, just the trick to soak up the beer.
Would definitely visit here again when in Leicester for some quality real ale. 👍
D. R.
Not much more to say other than you're crazy if you haven't been here yet! Fantastic owner and great staff...but the stout is what makes it for me...oh and the cheese brick cobs...de-fooking-licious!! There is always something new to try but also the staple offerings if you're not feeling adventurous. It's a MUST pit stop if you're in Leicester!
B. J.
Absolute ale heaven.
Loads to choose from, a proper pub if you like.
R. G.
Loved it - great beer, great staff, lovely customers (or at least the ones we spoke with). Will definitely make a return visit next time we r in Leicester.
D. S.
The Blue Boar is a traditional public house with a modern twist. Excellent selection of beers and stouts on tap. They have a selection stion of sandwiches and pork pies on the counter, which I havent see in years. The Blue Boar is historical, cosy and easy to find.
A. W.
One of the places i attend before the rugby. The Blue Boar gets busy early. If you want a seat please get there early. The Cobs are recommended.
X. “. Y.
Best beer best cider best everything :)
K. S.
Some great beers on when I visited with a banging cheese and onion cob too. I'll be back again soon.
M. f.
It was completely rammed, but as to be expected before the rugby! The beer selection was amazing though, must visit when back in Leicester
I. L.
Been in Leicester 3 days and been in the Blue Boar 3 days, plus a lot of other pubs in the area! This place is truly superb, great staff,.amazingly kept beer and friends locals, a must visit in Leicester!!
J. B.
Love this pub, very quirky features, cheese board and pork pie plus craft beer , great service and lovely atmosphere
T. C.
Excellent little real ale pub. Prices are fair and has a nice atmosphere
J. W.
A small watering hole, with a nice selection of ales, can be quite cramped during match days, but prices are good, as is the service.
r. r.
The BB really does know how to find some superb beers. All kept at there best. This is fine pub for a quick pint when doing a little bit of Saturday shopping or a few more when back in town for the evening.
J. C.
Great selection of beer,& cider!!. Amazing cheese, & onion, cobs, with a proper slab of cheese. Can't recommend the place more!
C. E.
A cracking pub well worth a visit I tried 4 of the 12 on tap. I will return. Great urinals with an anti homage to InBev.
H. W.
Proper real ale pub, very busy. Definitely worth a visit
N.
An oasis of calm in the middle of Saturday night madness. When every other pub looked and sounded like a nightclub, the Blue Boar served great beers to those who appreciate them, and the atmosphere consisted of a hubbub of people chatting, and hardly phone in sight. Wonderfull.
R. S.
Small, trad town pub, good local beers at good prices, and a friendly welcome.
A. J.
Always good beer selection, nice decor, proper dopper
K. E.
A 'real' pub. You won't find fizzy draught drinks, music or a TV here, just a great selection of regularly changing hand pulled beers and ciders, with proper bar snacks or local cheese boards and pork pies. Mostly standing room and extremely busy when tigers are at home. Excellent value, almost tempted to give a bad review to keep it as a secret treasure!
D. D.
Truely awesome proper pub, selling many different ales & ciders full of friendly locals. When I visited there was a staff member who worked behind t bar who particularly kind, she gave my children some home made flap jacks to eat foc. Whilst this pub doesn't really appear to be pub suitable for children (I was pushing my luck having them with me) we were made to feel most welcome. I really liked this place and will be back!
A. E.
Visited just a few times but definitely a pub to go to if in the area. Super welcoming staff, great selection of beers and friendly customers happy to socialise if travelling solo which I usually do. The fresh cobs are full of loveliness.
M. B.
Good selection of beer -my ruby ale was superb - reasonable prices - great atmosphere.
T. D.
Great place for a drink before a Tigers game. Good choice of drinks and friendly staff
G. D. S.
Great rotation of real ale and my new favourite for when I head to Leicester center!
L. W.
Great beer selection, 8 ales and 4 lager/cider.
M. D.
Great beer range, nice decor with a barrel theme. Worth a visit.
N. G.
What a great place to drink! If you love guest ales you can't go wrong... And the cheese stop and onion cob, that's your tea sorted then.
T. Z.
Lovely cosy pub with good choice of ales, IPA ect
N. T.
What a great real ale pub.
Great tasty selection of ales and good food. Everyone friendly even though I came from outside the county. Thank you Cheers!
K. J.
Great little pub with so much going on. Well worth calling in just for the atmosphere.
Really helpful in choosing a beer for a very picky customer
B. R.
Not really into real ale pubs.. but this was OK.
C. S.
Friendly folks in a modern take on an old pub. Games to play and while away the time.
P. S.
Excellent beer, loved the pork pie
D. B.
Great craft beer, ales and ciders. Small but cosy bar, with a great selection of home made bar snacks, and a proper cheese and onion crusty cob 😁😁
D. H.
Cheese and onion cob was excellent and so was the beer and choice of beer
D. W.
Great place if you like your Ale
Y. C.
Great pub, fantastic atmosphere and management - Paul made us really welcome although I drink lager and lime, which he called a cocktail 😂😂 My daughter adored the ale. We will in the words of the Terminator be back. Cheese and Onion cob to die for.
j. y.
Beardy.
R. C.
Good choice of cask beers and cobs are amazeing
R. B.
Good beer, good atmosphere, decent cheese cobs
s. d. s.
Good place with good ales. Would definitely go back there again.
G. M.
Excellent real ale pub.
P. G.
Traditional pub, friendly staff and a great selection of real ales.
G. S.
Super Beer Selection and that great E Mids tradition the Cob
M. R.
Great little pub. Out of the way and really good ales.
D. H.
Good beer choices, friendly customers, good staff and seats what more do you need
N. W.
Very busy, always a great choice of cask ale.
S. S.
Great selection of excellent beers and spirits. Not your usual line up and it's absolutely worth going just on that merit alone. Staff are excellent and friendly.
Have to give 3* though since on the every occasion I've visited it has been absolutely sweltering with very little ventilation... Which can make the atmosphere a little bit "musty" and uncomfortable.
I wish the place all the success so they can expand.
S. G.
Classic pub with a great range of beer and ciders. Cheese sandwich is world class and goes great with a few pints. Sometimes has live music and the atmosphere is really friendly and welcoming. Definitely a great pub to visit any time it's open. Value is very good without sacrificing quality
J. S.
Always a great pint and cobs to die for!!
C. C.
Wonderful little pub with a large range of beautifully kept traditional and craft beers.
G. P.
Best pub in Leicester! Everybody is soooo friendly, we loved it. Good guest beers, nice bar attendants, lovely folk music every Sunday of the month. People who come to this pub are truly amazing.
T. 2.
If you are after good quality, non chain beer, try this place. Staff who know their stuff
J. H.
One of only two pubs/ bars I can rely on in Leicester. An ever changing selection of Cask ale, some on hand pump and some straight from the cask. 4 or more ciders available from the box. Some bottled beers and wine and there are lovely bar snacks. Staff are great. Can get very busy.
J. M.
Cracking little one room pub. Stools made from empty casks, urinals are unique, great selection of well kept beers.
p. l.
Decent beer and they even sell cider. Cheap massive cheese and onion cobs to accompany your beer if you so wish. Small interior so you may need to get there earlier if you want a seat. A quality pub if you want a proper beer.
L. S.
Wide range of beers, friendly staff, lively atmosphere.
J. T.
A proper beer barrel pub , wide choice of ales and ciders , pork pie was excellent. We will be returning as soon as possible, it does need a ramp or a strong customer around for wheelchair access, but well worth the effort.
D. S.
One of several great pubs on Millstone Lane. Everything was spot on. The craft beer selection, the cheese and onion cob (we actually came back an hour later to eat lunch) and the service. Very clean pub all around. We will be back.
T. C.
Real ale pub. If you like real ale you'll love it here. I like real ale.
B. B.
Excellent choice of real ales pub is quite small so. often crowded which in the current environment is not everyones choice.
B. F.
The best reason to visit the Blue Boar is for its historical connection. It was the inn where Richard III spent his last night alive before his death at the Battle of Bosworth. Except the only real connection is its name and location. The bar is now a modern pub with too few seats. Granted they do have a very good selection of local ales, and the staff are very good with the characters who come in. They also serve incredible cheese sandwiches with the most cheese you've ever seen on a sandwich
B. I.
I came based on reviews, I only gave 3 stars this time because they had no juice (I wanted cranberry and vodka they only had ginger beer ) that said the place is quirky and original (my friend said "boaring") see what I did there. I will return and re-evaluate and maybe give more stars.... If they get some juice in. The beer selection looks great though, lots of tasty ales on offer.... I will return.
s.
Love this place . They sell some amazing beer and the staff are great also
L. W.
Great place to come and enjoy a pint of real ale. 13 to choose from on this visit (yes I have been here a few times before). Knowledgeable and friendly staff too. Oh yes, they don't mind vaping, as long as you don't engulf the place in a cloud...... Cobs, Pies, and cheeseboard available too. Will be back 😊
L. B.
Old style pub with lots of real beers. Basic food - cobs, pork pies, crisps - really good value and massive! Limited choice of drinks, hence not 5 stars.
R. L.
Small friendly pub. Not keen on the new lighting. Can get very crowded. Proper pub cheese and onion cobs plenty of ales and ciders to choose from too as well as soft drinks
R. W.
The Blue Boar is the genuine article: bearded men talk politics whilst sipping on beers you’ve never heard of, poured from barrels behind the bar by the enthusiastic and smiley barman. There are beers here for all tastes, including an 11% imperial stout when we visited (surely you could only have one?). I went for the eponymous Blue Boar and it didn’t disappoint. I guess I better start growing a beard?
j. s.
One of the Top 5 pubs in Leicester, great well kept cask range, good keg and cider range, cool interior and very cool gents toilets.
Good range of bar snacks too
P. F.
Fabulous pub with great beer and great service
J. W.
Only for Lovely REAL beer drinkers. Scrummy cheese and onion and ham cobs and pork pie.
The beers are far nicer now it's summertime - tend to be far too cold in wintertime for real ales. Cosy & friendly.
G. G.
Lovely pub. Friendly helpful staff, polite, and happy to take time out to recommend a beer that suits you. Great choice of real ale. I wish all pubs were like this.
L. R.
Absolutely outstanding! Great selection of beers and seems to attract a nice genre of people. Good priced, real ale....say no more! Worth a visit!
I. W.
Great beer drinkers pub. Fantastic selection of beers and guest ales. Laid back atmosphere and eclectic decor. Cobs served at the bar are a nice touch.
C. D.
Great beer selection. A proper beer drinkers pub but plenty of other drinks on offer too. A nice place to hang out
N. L.
Nice pub. Good selection of drinks and amazing cobs! Only downside is there are never any seats on match days but great atmosphere every time I go
T. P. S. T.
A good small pub. It has a lot to offer on tap and in bottles. The staff are friendly and informative. Can be busy with Leicester City fans on match day.
T. L.
First-rate micropub close to the City Centre which consistently serves a great selection of frequently changing top-quality real ales from nine handpumps on the bar (as well as more directly from nine more casks on the stillage directly behind the bar). They also have a large array of bottled beers (mostly Sam Smith's tremendous offerrings) to drink on the premises or to take away. Cider and wine are also available. Their cobs have massive doorstops of cheese and are great value for £2. They also do a cheeseboard which is good for sharing. There's a good selection of board games available to use.
Very friendly staff and a welcoming atmosphere to first-time visitors.
Make it a point to visit here when in Leicester and you won't be disappointed!
K. W.
Amazing place, great choice of Ale, friendly staff.

A. S.
Excellent little pub with extensive range of beautifully-kept cask ales.
D. P.
Beer wonderful as always, barman surly as always (you worry if he isn't), wouldn't want it any other way 😊
A. P.
Sister pub to the Ale Stone. I like the style and the friendly staff. Wish they had more lighter gravity beers. Most are a bit strong for me.
B. C. v. B.
Somewhat smelly new boozer: beer, must and cleaning fluid. It's got a very good beer offering, but beside the aroma, (which might not be permanent), it's a little bare inside, and it feels a little cold. Lots of blonde wood.
D. B.
Excellent kept and interesting range of beer, cider, and spirits.
R. B.
Top class !

Just bloody lovely. Good affordable beer & massive cheese cobs. Exactly what you want from a city centre micro brewery.

Excellent beer. A beer hunters pub. Quite small.

(Translated) Very characteristic place, beer of excellent quality and a not too wide selection to avoid beers left to rest too much (however a very high quantity). Highly recommended.
(Original)
Posto molto caratteristico, birra dalla qualità eccellente ed una selezione non troppo ampia per evitare birre lasciate riposare troppo (comunque una quantità molto alta). Consigliatissimo.

(Translated) Very good beers. It lacks music. It is a bar to try a multitude of beers and chat. Not much more.
(Original)
Muy buenas cervezas. Le falta música. Es un bar para probar multitud de cervezas y charlar. No mucho más.
