Just dropped in for a pint after Sunday morning shooting.
Harry always has a warm welcome and not bad beer.
I keep going back so it ain't too shabby 🍺🍺🥃🥃

A quaint hidden gem that is just under new ownership. Perfect little hideaway for quiet drink
Needs some TLC but I believe they got a great new owner who is trying really hard

Lovely country pub with small beer garden out back and a couple picnic tables out front. Lager wasn't that nice out pump (may have just been a one off) and no slim line tonic for my gin. We did eat there. Indian food. Cooked by Harry (lovely friendly Indian chap) who was also Manning the bar at the time, but we didn't have to wait along time for the food. It was rather good! The mogo chips were lovely and spicy, sauces were thick and tasty. The lamb curry was excellent.

Great range of drinks on tap, great traditional pub feel. We went in after a cider festival (gutted that we missed it!!) The staff were 'recovering' from their evening of merriment... were very friendly and let me taste a couple of the ciders that were on from the night before.
Planning to go again and again, and my calendar is filling up with other festivals that they arrange fairly regularly by the looks...

Fantastic place to visit especially in the summer. Really great events with live music and a real friendly bunch of people. We went to the cider festival and couldn't have enjiyed it more. Service was friendly and fantastic, live music was even better. All round a really great british pub.

Very friendly bar, excellent Indian food. It would be great to have more atmosphere in the restaurant.

I came here as it was included on the Mild Trail. I found that it's hard to find being at the end of a tortuous twisting often one car wide route. Having said that it has a large car park and, on a hot and sunny afternoon, it is in a glorious location adjacent to and overlooking Barkby Brook (where beer barrels used to be cooled in past times - the tracks where they were held can still be seen and there's a plaque on the wall explaining about it).
It is a Free House now. I was quickly served with Anstey Ales's Oatmeal Mild. It was quite quiet in the Pub with only a handful of people there but it was mid-afternoon so probably busier later?
The owner was very hospitable and informative. He explained they have signed-up with Anstey Ales to carry their ales in future.

Pub was in a lovely place. You can sit outside. Service is prompt and good food with generous portions.

Defining Moment-The Brookside
The sun swelled up in clearing sky as he stared out the window,
At the emerald grass beyond the stream, along the hedgerow,
After a long motorcycle ride North in drenching rain from London,
To the ancient Midland field and village off the M-1.
On the back of the one-lunger engine, a long wet gray afternoon,
Heart reaching through the misty downpour to the next adventure,
With firm resolve to keep leaving, keep surging into twilight,
Finally meeting a welcome crowd in the pub downstairs last night.
With the window slung wide open, his breath filled with moist air
“I am truly home,” beyond the rain to the marrow soaking,
More home than home, adopting or being adopted by the land,
Once strode by unknown ancestors who could only think of leaving.
Coming of age does not even begin to describe what it means,
To possess the self for the first time, on your own dime,
A more apt thought: “I am alive now and always, without time,”
How can this, why should this, instant ever have to end?
There in the moment hanging bare chested over the street,
This moment has returned again and again, every September,
Looking back, longing again, to be naïve, innocent, and free,
Trying anxiously not to believe it is a curse to remember.
Time is now, build new memory, then try to forget,
The “you” then, is the “you” now, the future “you,”
Open a window, breathing deeply in, peel off the longing, the regret,
Soaring, alive, the seeker, the finder… forever is true.
