Was lovely really polite and helpful staff food was amazing will definitely use again

Had a family meal here on a Friday evening, sat in the main bar area. Food was lovely, we all enjoyed it. Great atmosphere, the staff were great and the place looks ace after a reset re fit which must of been carried out during the first lock down. Will definitely be back.

Went today for my birthday celebration with family which included my 4 Yr old granddaughter. Sadly they don't have a child's menu ! My granddaughter wanted chicken an vegetables which our waitress said couldn't be accommodated so we asked for a small chicken dinner which again we were told no we could only have a large one!! When it came it was so big that she refused to eat as there was so much.... the food was picked at but it was a sin to waste such lovely food! The food was extremely nice but sadly no chance of a return as the didn't want to accommodate our little one!!

What a fantastic place to spend your evenings and weekends. This place has changed alot over the years and now has gone through its biggest transition yet, into a more modern pub for all the family to enjoy. The food is brilliant affordable and tasty. The atmosphere is buzzing both inside and out but the best part is all the dogs allowed! Particularly the resident dog that wonders around like he owns the place, which to be fair being the size he is, he probably does. The staff and management will do anything for you, to ensure you have the best time. My grandma and grandad used to come here 3 or 4 times a week and it will forever be close to our family's heart. A must visit next time you are in Barkby!

First time today visiting after the refurb. Place looks amazing after the revamp. Fresh looking, modern, better seating (tables not on top of each other). Sunday menu was fab, plenty to chose from, great sounding vegetarian options too. The staff are friendly, helpful, nothing too much trouble. We had a starter and a main each. Starters reasonably priced and such good portions. We had space in between the starter and main which was pleasantly welcome as usually I find the mains come out quite quick. Sunday lunches are amazing, plenty of veg accompanied the generous portion of meat we had. Superb place for a lunch. We will certainly be back in the near future.

It's been many a year since I visited the Malt Shovel, and was I amazed at the changes yes, the pub was so beautifully updated, with lots of outdoor seating area, as well as ample seating inside, I was amazed at how nice it looked. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, and the food was delishers, I shall definitely be eating here again. I take my hat off to you guys. A very pleasant lunch time treat. 👍😊

Went for dinner with some friends last night. The food was excellent, big portions, fresh and tasty. The staff were attentive and friendly, happy to help and fun. We had the back room to ourselves, the pub was busy but everyone was following all of the guidelines and seemed just happy to be there. The patio was lovely too, the landlords have done an amazing job sprucing up the place. Thank you.

Went here for the New Years celebrations and had a good time, really really nice pub and a great range of drinks. Enjoyed the Michael Buble tribute act but felt so sorry for the comedian Rick the Pr**k as almost everyone spoke over him. Did thoroughly enjoy the moment when a very drunk and possibly high woman had a go at him and I believe the owner of the pub then gave the woman her money back and chucked her out the pub.

We visited the Malt Shovel on. Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve the ChristmS day dinner was outstanding large portions and very tasty and great value. Also the buffet on New Year’s Eve was very tasty everything a finger buffet should be. The landlord Tony and his wife Jo were very accommodating and nothing was too much trouble we have been there before and always have a great experience and we look forward to visiting them soon Thankyou to all your staff as well. We highly recommended you visit this amazing pub and as it’s had the most amazing reverb looks stunning.

A compact "Thwaites" Brewery public house which is very much at the heart of this village. It's decorated in a traditional style. Very popular with locals and also with walkers/ramblers and travellers (it has a good-sized car park to it's rear) because of the meals it offers. Small beer garden to it's rear. Welcoming and friendly staff. Has a sports television service for locals - someone at the pub is a West Ham fan to judge by the framed West Ham shirt and the Upton Park sign in the bar!
