Reviews of The Red Cow
J. H.
I've been a few times now. It's a really nice atmosphere. Staff friendly and helpful. Portions do come out on the small side, but all taste really excellent and presented nicely. Not badly priced. Always busy, so best to book in advance. Overall a nice pub and food for a relaxed meal out with family or friends
L. G.
I had a lovely time! I waited at the host quietly because I saw the bar was quite busy, and was sat before the time I’d actually booked, with a happy hello and friendly smile. Had the wonderful manager, Shaun, come over to check back on my meals and have a chat to make sure everything was fine. The waitress, Gemma, was very quick at coming to take my order and get my drinks. I paid at the bar because I could see the waitress was busy by the time I had finished my meal. Me and my daughter had the gammon and it was delicious! The chefs cooked our meals perfectly. I’ll definitely be back again soon
M. K.
Fantastic food and good service from start to finish. Dogs welcome in certain parts of the pub. Outside dining in lovely garden.
P. B. R.
Really friendly staff, even though short staffed and busy, still had time for you.
The food was served hot and was fantastic.
Toilets were spotless and you could see that they were clean regularly.
Lovely hidden gem that is well worth a visit. A*****
J. D.
Amazing pizza, great ambiance, visit on weekdays to enjoy solitude
A. M.
This was a bit of a last minute 'had a right day of it and don't fancy cooking visit', so were pleased to get a booking at that short notice. The service was lovely, the food excellent and Tia was very prompt and polite. a nice relaxing meal, Thank you.
B. P.
Long wait before being showed to our table. Drinks arrived quicker than usual. I chose the Rainbow Salad. Paid an extra £3 for chicken, thinking I would get some nice cut up chucks. Instead I got 2 small strips of dried up chicken. Very disappointed. My had wife had a Pimms and Lemonade. We charged an extortionate 75p for a shot of Lemonade.
Even using a 50% off voucher I felt the bill was dear.
There was a shortage of staff, so service at times was slow.
We really like the Red Cow , usually. But this vist was well below par.
E. D.
I had a lovely meal at The Red Cow Leicester Forest East. The meal was excellent. Service very good, and reasonable priced. I would highly recommend going there.
J. L.
Service excellent, good atmosphere. Food was expensive for what it was, one of the party ordered salmon, it was overcooked and just came with potatoes and vine tomatoes, no veg. If you get a salad it's loads of lettuce with 1.5 cherry tomatoes and two rings of red onion. Prawn cocktail sauce was a bit tasteless. Lasagna is a layered dish traditionally, this was some ragu with a topping of pasta and sauce. Tasty but not a lasagna. I understand the beef bourguignon was nice, although not a traditional recipe which normally includes pearl or shallot onions, carrots and bacon, the mash was dry. This was our second night out and both times slightly disappointing. However good to catch up with friends.
G. G.
Tasty food, friendly staff, very helpful. Prices are a little expensive but you pay for what you get and it's very good quality food. Just beware of service charge on your final bill.
M. A.
Thankyou to all the staff at the Red Cow Hinckley Road . Celebrated our Wedding meal/Reception here. Shaun was wonderful & very helpful accommodating us & our family & friends Staff were really nice & polite in meeting all our needs. Food was fantastic. Thankyou for helping making our day special
S. H.
Quality food, tasty, and fresh. Staff very welcoming. Will definitely return
P. C.
The place is very nice and also the staff we went for Sunday lunch but the food was just warm but we ate it but told the waitress when she asked us how we enjoyed our meals she just said she would inform the kitchen
H. A.
Food was ok. Not a good as some vintage inns we have been to but same menu. Staff were eager to take orders we asked for a couple more minutes amd the next server was at our table asking the same questions in seconds. Would be lovely if the staff would just relax and let you relax too and enjoy your food in your own time.
N. G.
Very nice meal. Not many diners around midday.
Has a very traditional atmosphere.
S. M.
Lovely food and atmosphere, Charles our server was great and the whole experience was very good. Will be returning and if you are in the area well worth a visit. Thank you again .
K. S.
Nice staff good food pleasant surroundings with we'll set out tables a very nice experience
m. s.
Good service friendly staff . Had platter for two and fish and chips ! Couple of pints each 65 quid
B. S.
I thought the staff were friendly and welcoming. The food was excellent could not fault it and will sing your praises.
j. p.
Friendly place, can be a bit chilly in the bar area as the sun doesn't get it, food great, staff brilliant 😁....enjoyed it.
m. h.
lovely staff treated us well and warm, food was amazing especially the pizzas, will be visiting again!
H. G.
Lovely place! Enjoyable experience and welcoming and friendly staff. Will definitely be returning!

Came here for abit of Sunday Lunch while waiting to check in the Travel Lodge next door. The receptionist from the Lodge recommended here actually.
The portion size for the Sunday roast is humongous and although I ordered an extra Yorkshire pudding (for 50p!) I couldn't finish the delicious meal.
I needed extra gravey and it took a while to get a waiter's attention as it was just me. I would've minussed A Star but the bought the gravey within a minute. That earned A Star.
The way the are tackling the Covid situation is good. There is a one way situation going on. An entrance and an exit. But there's not much sanitizer stations around.
The pub is clean with a family friendly vibe. It was a great experience to eat at this pub and I left feeling extremely happy and incredibly full.
5 stars for the Yorkshire pudding. The beef was abit tough for my taste but still tasty in flavour.
M. T.
May be I choose the wrong time of week to come and eat.
The service was hectic because the staff was over worked, they tried there best.
Food was disappointing as I come to the Red Cow for over 30 years.
Fish was very dry.
Wish them luck for the days to come.
It will still be my local
D. B.
I love this place. Staff are very helpful and friendly, good service. Menu is not the biggest but still a varied choice of food dishes and are reasonably priced. I have been a few times and tried different dishes, my experiences have all been good, great tasting food
M. K.
Excellent food, despite being busy the wait was not too long, food was on point. Must say staff are always amazing and make you feel welcome
j. c.
Was suppossed to be our Christmas dinner.
Not very good service. Food was just ok. The christmas crackers must have been the cheapest possible to buy.
Drinks were very expensive.
Nothing gave the impression it was a Christmas dinner apart from the cheap crackers on the table.
P. R.
Excellent service staff very helpful and friendly food was excellent and good value
P. H.
Fantastic food service staff and gorgeous inside and lovely and warm with log fires burning away! Go and enjoy you won’t be disappointed!
S. C.
Lovely afternoon spent at The Red Cow… the food was sensational and the service was brilliant!
T. B.
Sunday lunch with friends and family as it was a table of 8, we really enjoyed ourselves. Sunday dinner was absolutely fabulous definitely recommend the roast trio as most of our party had this and it was absolutely fabulous and delicious, and it was even better with a great pint of pedigree. When we arrived it was busy and the staff were doing a great job very friendly and attentive, We will definitely be back.
B. P.
Decent food, had an offer on so good value. Nice outdoor for the summer evenings
c. s.
Very friendly staff and food lovely. The kids fish was huge aswell. Very good portions.
J. W.
Mediocre. Food ok service completely inattentive even though it was quiet and could count on one hand the number of tables. Very disappointing
R. W.
Wonderful proper fresh food, excellent service, never rushed and a great price for a Christmas day. Very pleased with our experience.
l. o.
Friendly atmosphere, food was ok but veg came out a lot later than the mains so mains were getting cold .
K. Y.
Lovely cozy pub, popped in for a beef lasagne which was absolutely gorgeous, staff super friendly and welcoming too 10/10
R. M.
Great staff great food great place we all enjoyed our visit and would strongly recommend.
M. W.
Stayed at the Travelodge 2 nights and ate here both times. Great staff, one in particular was fantastic, entertaining, helpful and really friendly.
m. n.
Lovely meal for my brother's wedding very well organized and lovely food! ☺️
K. L. L.
Our ladies lunch group visit the Red Cow twice a month and can’t recommend it highly enough. The staff are always so welcoming & helpful, one of our group has a few allergy requirements and they always accommodate her. It’s so cozy when the fires are on. And the food is always scrumptious, our favourites include the veggie lasagna, the fishcakes, gammon & the baked mushrooms.
M. S.
We had the most amazing Sunday lunch with the full family here yesterday, the best roast beef i have had in ages & the kids loved the sticky toffee. The service was super friendly, they worked really hard to squeeze us in last minute. Nice pint of Tribute. We will be back.
J. W.
A group of 14 booked a table & impressed by the service despite the restaurant being exceptionally busy inside and out. Waitresses worked very hard with a smile on their faces & nothing was too much trouble. Meals presented well & all enjoyed different dishes from the menu. After a good & wholesome chicken pie I could only manage a mini dessert which was delicious followed by coffee.
Reasonable prices a very varied menu catering for all tastes & appetites. Visited many times prelockdown & never been disappointed.
Well done to the chef who must've worker tirelessly behind the scenes.
Thank you
Jacqueline Willan
E. B.
Excellent food and staff were great.
A. H.
Lovely food, great service and we weren't rushed at all
R. H.
High prices but was average food, bar staff where great though! 👍
J. W.
A lovely pub, good choice of veggie meals, all cooked fresh. Highly recommend.
C. W.
Very good food and well looked after by the friendly staff
D. W.
Nice atmosphere, service pretty good. Food very mediocre.
T. T.
This was our 2nd visit and the staff and service we're excellent. I would have given 5 stars but on this visit the vegetables were hard and the food could have been hotter. Overall this is a very good place to eat.
M. G.
Wish I could remember but he had recently broken his shoulder , he was slim and wore glasses , he really does deserve a big thanks because his customer service skills was impeccable
I. C.
A really nice family meal at the Red Cow yesterday, the food was all delicious especially the chicken pie and the pork belly, the lamb starter was good and the crumble was just to die for. As always the staff were super friendly and did everything possible to make us feel at home.
L. V.
Great pub with a fab outside area. Went with a group of friends and we all loved the food, very tasty and fresh; the duck salad and the asparagus ravioli were my favourites. Staff very welcoming and friendly. The manager was lovely, he recommended a bottle of Sancerre that was incredible. Will definitely return
M. B.
Excellent quality food, real wood fireplace creating a cosy environment. Friendly staff and well laid beautiful interior pub with character.
B.
Brilliant place for dinner, staff very friendly
M. W.
Very nice places to and drink, nice Atmosphere..🥰
D. H.
Great service, friendly lovely staff always willing to help had a very chilled and relax Sunday afternoon
D. S.
I came here with family and we had such a great time. A beautiful building, the food was delicious and we were greeted and served with smiley faces! Will be going back very soon
T. M. -. Y.
Its OK. The bread and butter pudding was tasty. All 4 mains were a bit over cooked and dry. When mains average at £15 somewhere, I personally feel that service should be at a certain level to match that cost. Little things like not checking how the food is, or asking if you want a dessert menu then not actually coming back with it let them down.
C. S.
Excellent service, lovely food ! 😍
G. P.
Food is excellent and also the Guinness is excellent, what's not to like
J. C.
Very good nice atmosphere tasty food.
H. D.
Had a Sunday roast it was beautiful. We have booked for Christmas Dinner. I recommend you go there to eat the food is amazing. The staff are very helpful and welcoming
K. M.
Nice, traditional style pub. Food was decent, I'd recommend the slow cooked beef 👌🏼
B. P. -. A. (.
Very polite stuff. 🤗
A. M.
Lovely meal today, me and my friend popped in, I had fish and chips and she had gammon, both cooked spot on, the staff were friendly and polite & the place had a great selection of Ales, wines & gins.
D. S.
Love this place, little pricey .but nice atmosphere. Good food. I would say though i had gammon with chips, no embellishments though, a little salad would have been nice.
K. B.
Had lunch with family members. First time visit. Staff very friendly and helpful. I quite liked the atmosphere here. Tables not squeezed in together which led to a more relaxed and enjoyable lunch.
Food was very enjoyable. The price was mid-range. My only downside, which doesn't affect my rating at all, is (and it's a personal choice thing, not a reflection on the quality of the food etc) I don't particularly like food being served in separate dishes on a main plate. I'd rather it was served dished up.
Having said that it didn't detract from my enjoyment of the meal. My 3 fellow diners also enjoyed their meals.
I'm in this area occasionally and this is a place I'll happily return to, and would recommend it.
L. C.
Amazing food, great selection of drinks. Service a little slow but made up for by the quality.
J. S.
Fabulous meal, even though I had very little appetite, I enjoyed the meal - it was delicious, with the salmon cooked just perfectly. Staff very attentive and friendly. Would definitely go again.
N. S.
Enjoyed our drinks in a lovely cosy spot in front of the fire, just what you need on these cold winter days!
H. R.
Ok bar. Pretty small with limited seating but good atmosphere and friendly bar staff. Would go for a couple drinks again.
J. B.
Very good food. Excellent service.
S. F.
Nice food, nice atmosphere and good price
N. J.
Enjoyed the meal and surroundings, would call in again if in the area.
C. C.
Lunch with friends... all of us enjoyed our meals....great value and service..
N. T.
Great pub, friendly staff, amazing food.
D. H.
Great pub. Good food & brilliant staff!
S. W.
Food great staff polite clean and tidy well done
S. M.
Lovely staff and good value for money food
G. L.
Red cow was warm and welcoming with a lovely log fire on a freezing cold day
S. S.
Had the pate then fish and chips. The bread was dry, the pate average but nicely presented. The fish was hot and crisp and the chips were perfect... Crunchy outside with a soft centre. The meal was reasonable value, and the service was good. However, the ladies' toilets were full of long term stains and cobwebs from the grubby door handles I didn't want to touch to the dark stains from dirty mop water in the edges of the floor... I just hope the kitchen is cleaned better!!
S. B.
Lovely food and friendly staff
L. S.
Amazing Christmas day meal staff were lovely and so was the food
R. L.
Great food, even had a kids menu and high chairs, dogs allowed in the back garden there's a water bowl and some treats for them too
L. C.
Had a really enjoyable evening here with a romantic meal for two. The food was really good quality, staff were very friendly and the drinks were good too.
A. S.
Nice venue, good atmosphere, helpful friendly staff, good food.
s.
Love this place....food is so good!
J. P.
Fantastic night for my partners birthday meal on Friday 30th August. Easy to book online or by phone. Fantastic offer of a 3 course meal and 2 drinks for £25 per person. Great choice on menu for offer and any slight adjustments were not an issue.
Always fab food, was the best service I've ever experienced, think the chaps name was Andy. Very friendly, chatty and helpful and far exceeded any expectations we had. Perfect 👌 Can't wait to return!!
C. B.
As always, lovely food, and great staff!
K. S.
Great venue with really good service.
T. I.
Bang tidy food and lovely service couldn’t ask for more
S. H.
Came on Saturday night food was amazing and staff where really lovely and friendly. We'll definitely be back again
O. B.
Not having been out since lockdown it was nice to have a meal out. I was a little concerned that none of the staff were wearing the shields that we see many places wearing and also no contact trace details were taken. Overall a pleasant visit.
C. M.
A pleasant visit and had such a nice meal. Will be coming back soon for a meal with some family!
B. B.
Lovely ambience and very friendly staff. Quite a few things weren't available on the menu and to be honest if I'd been in charge I'd have nipped to the cash and carry a mile away to get them. We had a sharing starter but obviously took too long eating it as they were hovering with our mains a couple of times before deciding to whip the plate away and plonk our mains down. It's a great winter pub for a drink but I don't think we'll eat there again.
A. B.
Lovely place, decent prices and tasty food. We used to come more often just for a few drinks though. But now... we’re just waiting for the summer. I am a smoker and I love my pint with a cigarette. That was not a problem during the previous few winters as they had electric heaters outside. But things have changed at the end of last summer when they refused to switch them on by giving us childish reasons. We had no choice but switching pubs then. We’ll be back in your beautiful garden as soon as the temperature will rise again.
G. B.
Always enjoy the food at any Vintage Inn
K. M.
Wonderful warm experience with very friendly staff.
A. T.
The service was only surpassed by the food, my wife chose the Duo of lamb and was more than blown away by the quality of the meat, as for myself I chose the lasagne which was with a red wine ragu, it was so delicious that I pushed myself to finish it, as for desert my wife had cheesecake and said she has never tasted one so good, 9ver all I say a 6/5
J. r.
Great food and friendly atmosphere staff very helpful
D. B.
Food were very good. Most of the service was good but waitress not happy when we complained about coffee. Also when coming to the table to take the orders, just dived in instead of waiting for us to finish what we were saying. Whilst not asking them to wait until we'd completely finished, would have been nice to wait a few seconds to be noticed.
J. P.
Booked for 9 for a long awaited get together. Excellent meal friendly staff and very good service.
J. M.
Staff were nice. Food, some aspects a little lacking, had beef lasagne, added garlic bread at £2.50, the meal was ok and tasty, chips were nice too, i wouldn't bother with the garlic bread again though. Had the cheese board for dessert, not as on the menu, which sounded great but quite expensive, was ok but lacking too, didn't include some cheese advertised on menu and quite expensive, one of our party sent steak back, too tuff. Nice atmosphere, could hear each other too.
P. D.
Small attention to detail things; would go along way, the fire was very inviting, both of them, it would have been nice to see them fuelled and kept going but no, they let them die out whilst we were there, they had wrong menus out, they had to literally go and print some, they'd been open an hour and half, things like that should be out, checked etc. We weren't asked if everything is ok, how's the food, nothing, real shame as the venue is excellent. Because of the above, no tip this time other than please pay attention to detail. It goes a long way.
Food was great.
T. R.
Lovely Staff. Really nice inside.
Food tasty but the portions were very small .
I was still Hungary after the lamb and small portion of vegetables. Which was £16..
Just had to go and buy another Dinner in Nandos.
i. m.
visited friday night, was packed. our food came out after 30 minutes and it was worth the wait! i had the pork belly and my wife had the 8oz rump steak, both cooked to perfection. we will be returning again when in the area. highly recommend.
J. R.
Food was good nicely presented and good quality for an average price. Staff we're good but I got a bit of a scolding look when I was brought a sweet that I hadn't ordered..I had asked for something different..shame cos there would have been a generous tip but for that. Might go back.
J. P.
For girls night we went to the Red Cow, we ordered gin and tonics and I had an Aperol Spritz. The menu was simplified, I had chicken schnitzel, which came with chunky chips and bbq sauce. The chicken was crispy and not greasy, the chips were a little cold but the bbq sauce was delicious, if anything I wanted more of it.
For dessert I ordered banoffee pie, which was amazing. The bananas had be burnt on the top which made a creme brulee texture, mixed with sweet cheesecake and crunchy base which was delicious.
I asked for some shots of sambuca but the pub has stopped serving shots, such as tequila or sourz which I thought was strange.
The service was ok, the staff were friendly but I felt that they wanted us to leave straight after we had finished our dessert.
S. J.
Very friendly staff and lovely atmosphere
D. A.
Thank you for a fabulous lunch today. You have been brilliant since you opened again and we've always felt really safe. We'll be back to see you in December. Thank you and stay strong xx
G. W.
Really nice food with well keeps beers and friendly, helpful staff. We stayed for a long time and they were happy with us to do so. The reason for the loss of the star? The toilets were very, very smelly.
G. T.
Had a great meal here. Great food, reasonably priced with amazing service. Everyone in our party thoroughly enjoyed our time here and we all said we will return.
G. H.
Food was good service was quick not over priced with friendly staff.
C. B.
Lovely food. The only criticism would be that I ordered the standard roast turkey dinner and my sister in law ordered the much more expensive Christmas Turkey dinner. I got more on my plate. Including a Yorkshire pudding. Service was nice and friendly and it is a very warm and homely little place.
I. M.
Friendly staff, kids menu, high chairs, a good selection of non alcoholic drinks and outside tables
V. K.
Lovely Pre Birthday Sunday lunch meal
R. L.
I'm new to the area so we came for a couple of drinks and sat outside. Felt very welcomed and not uncomfortable as you can when visiting some local pubs and it was a lovely day to sit out in the beer garden. We didn't eat here but the menu looked very good and had lots of variety and daily specials. We shall definitely be paying a visit again to try oht the food.
K. F.
Beautiful interior with a cosy atmosphere and friendly staff. However, the meat and fish are excellent quality but the salad and vegetables are not particularly appealing or tasty. Slightly disappointed and for me personally I won’t be going back.
r. m.
This used to be a great pub with decent pub type food. Seem now to want to be a restaurant and lost the nice pub feeling. Previously enjoyed the garden on a nice day but furniture now pretty grotty and not cleaned. Food average but a bit over priced for what it was. Overall just not the place it was.
C. C.
This is a regular haunt for my parents and I. The service is consistently excellent with friendly staff even when it gets busy. Most of the food is spot on with large portions, especially the roast dinners with a huge Yorkshire pudding and 3 large roast potatoes. Occasionally they do miss the mark with veg that is too al-dente or Yorkies that are slightly burnt (like today) but overall I would recommend it as a good Sunday dinner venue.
H.
Met up With a friend here I’d never been here before and the first to show the staff was very friendly and made me feel at ease thanks 😊
O. W.
Went for lunch with friends, 4 adults / 4 children, on 27th December 2017. Staff were very accommodating (we were late due to the traffic) and very attentive for the meal. Food was pretty good, there were a lot of items not available on the menu, but what we had was pretty good.
Very easy, good place to meet friends and can cater for larger parties.
Obviously, a part of Mitchells & Butlers so food is generally consistent and not too expensive.
N. B.
Great pub with lovely menu and fantastic staff, who were very attentive and friendly. Great size garden as well
K. K.
Great place for a meal or just a drink.
Busy times you'd struggle to found a chair and table to sit at in the bar area, which can be frustrating sometimes.
The pub/ restaurant has had a refurb recently which they've shorten the bar area and made more space/tables for dinners.
Food is always at good standard - never had a bad meal there. Resonably priced as well.
Staff are always happy and apporachable even when there rushed off there feet.
M. H.
Very nice fish and chips but sat next to a group of men who very loud and this spoiled the visit as had to shout to be heard by my friend. This is what is often wrong with pubs. However nice food and quit a nice cup of coffee.
I. D.
It's our local, but it varies so much each time we visit. Today was the worst vist ever with a 75 minute delay on food delivery, plastic in my son's burger, and food orders not right, but they did discount some of the drinks and one meal. Today was the first time I can recall not leaving a tip. We will leave it a while until we return and hope that standards return to their previously good levels.
L. T.
Very nice food and service.x
K. G.
Great experience overall, just took a little while to be served, but had a lot going against them with the coronavirus precedures.
M. a. L. u. H.
Very good food and fab service off the waiting staff. Very friendly
P. F.
Overpriced and cold food. Had carvery, veg cold and beef was tough.
D. C.
They've ruined a cosy pub/restaurant by shifting the balance from pub to restaurant. The décor is finished to a high standard but the same cannot be said about the food which is the same middle of the road offerings they've always served. Almost impossible to get a table to sit at for drinks on any evening now the drinks-only area has been diminished.
L. F.
Food amazing & service great
N. T.
Nice place for food and drink in lovely surroundings
M. L.
The food was very nice, the atmosphere lively and busy. The staff were good and efficient. However the wait on the food coming out was a little longer than I expected...
M. H.
Been a few times now and each time has been faultless. Lovely food in a quaint rustic setting. Very much looking forward to our Christmas Day lunch at the Red Cow. Highly recommend!
L. F. B.
Not tried the food yet but will update my review when I do. Nice beer garden and quick service. Parking however can be a little tight when they're busy so we always walk down!
N. S.
Lovely new refurbishment and the food is lovely, although quite pricey. The only down side is every time I go in for lunch the waitress fails to give me a lunch menu and I have to ask for it every time... it's almost like they don't want you to know the lunch menu offers the main menu food as practically half the price
I. B.
We had xmas meal here, it was quite good compared to other xmas set meals I've had at other places in other years so I would recommend it for an xmas get together. I can't comment on usual menu.
S. M.
I really loved the food here. I have had some good and bad experiences of vintage inns however this was a good one. Yes the food is pricy however it is of good quality and portion size. The staff were attentive and friendly and the building itself is of a nice size yet cosy. Great Sunday lunch experience for a large group.
R. L.
Lovely food and the service was fast too considering we were a party of 11, everyone enjoyed their meal and drinks, and it was a very enjoyable evening - nice atmosphere, and fireplaces too, nice and cozy!
r. m.
Loved it great surroundings warm and clean.
a. t.
Superb character Inn. Ample car park and selection of foods. Staff is also nice ajd helpful. The food was not the best and the deserts were essentially bad precooked food quality. The saving grace is the character building, rest is fairly average for above average prices.
E. W.
Very friendly place… staff were super helpful and the Sunday roast was delicious!!!!
S. C.
Nice bar area, very traditional English pub. Service generally good although they don't cope well with being busy. If you are going to eat stick to the grill menu, anything more ambitious may over tax the microwave.
D. H.
Nice atmosphere, staff friendly, food average. I was surprised to find the hot water in the gents, was actually cold, and stopped flowing, unable to wash my hands thoroughly. This was reported in a previous review one month ago, what's the fault?
J. O.
Hit and miss dining.
You can turn up some days, be greeted with a smile, seated and then served quickly.
On other days you can be seated, eat your meal, wait another 30 minutes for your table to be cleared and still not see a smile from a member of staff.
One thing that is guaranteed is that there'll be at least one fly hovering around your meal as you try to eat it.
L. S.
Beautiful setting, coupled with warm and friendly staff, who are knowledgeable and helpful, excellent variety of drinks and exceptional food. Can't wait for my next visit.
H. a. A.
I used to live very close to this pub and therefore have visited it often. It belongs to the Vintage Inn Group and is very good value ( especially if you have a gourmet society card) and the food is consistently good.
A friend of mine has been with me many times but she has also been to the Quorndon Fox which is part of the same group but said that the food was disappointing there.
P. S.
Absolutely beautiful food. Easily the nicest dining experience for a very long time. We will be back again and again. And the prices are very reasonable. A wonderful experience. I can't wait to eat there again.
R. B.
Nice pub, friendly atmosphere, decent drinks, fair prices and plenty of parking.
D. A.
Really enjoy it here and the refurbishment just makes it better. Loads of garden space at the rear and some at the front if you fancy a nose and the cars going by. Staff friendly and welcoming. Food reasonably priced.
s. J.
Helpful staff, great food
C. R.
There are some members of staff that are welcoming others are not. There isn't enough room for people and food when you have a restaurant that's empty and no where to sit needs sorting out and to many kids at 8.30pm in the evenings also.
M. T.
Very helpful and friendly staff . Lovely oldly world pub with a fantastic menu. Food really nice but could of had a few more chips with the meal . Definitely recommend this place
J. P.
Lovely refurb, but the bar area is now too small, in my opinion. Much more geared up to sit down dining - going for the gastropub approach in that sense, which will appeal to some, but not all.
V. M.
Great evening. Service, drinks and food were amazing can’t fault anything
P. G.
Excelled at Christmas dinner again lovely food friendly staff. Been going for the last 6 years on Christmas day and never had a a bad meal ...well done everyone
S. S.
Again the food was excellent and the staff very friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend The Red Cow and we will be coming back.
W. A.
Great pub, fun & friendly staff. Good beer range.
M. W.
Good ere. Especially when the sun is out...
P. B.
Food and service were excellent, staff very friendly. Will visit again.
J. D.
The Red Cow is a chain pub on the edge of Leicester with apparent pretentions of being a gastropub. The meals are around £6.50-£10, and are pretty standard microwave pub food. It's not exactly great, but it's reasonably competent in an unexciting way. I had the beefburger, and it contained a large amount of meat that was unfortunately fairly fatty. The barman was however friendly, and the general atmosphere was good to get work done in but not exactly chatty. I'd recommend it for food as fuel and a place to meet just next to the motorway, but it's nothing more impressive than that.
v. s.
Very good meal and sevice
c. c.
Food and service were exceptional, friendly staff and didnt wait long to be served or food to arrive. I recommend the dessert platter it was amazing and presentation was great! Well done Red Cow
J.
We all had Sunday roast , it was great. Plenty of meat & vegetables. Wine was good & the service was polite & friendly. I would visit again. X
I. M.
Sunday lunch was good. Roast lamb not much of it very fatty didn't complain to hungry.
I. S.
Came in for a couple of drinks at lunchtime - friendly staff and lovely garden space in the sun, will return.
L. S.
Lovely pub, always busy. The food is a bit hit and miss, wasn't good when we visited. Cooked well but unimaginative and basic. Otherwise a nice friendly pub with a lovely garden and plenty of parking
S. S.
Went the weekend before Mothering Sunday Nice food and atmosphere. Dirty cutlery and missing items from our meal mean I can't give 5 stars.
M. P.
Didnt eat here, just drank. Staff were friendly and helpful, service was reasonably quick. They have a good range of wine and beer.
R. S.
Nice pub, friendly staff, booking essential at weekends.
M. F.
Decent outside area. Could do with more outdoor heaters. We'll be allowed back inside soon though
M. G.
Went for lunch and had a Nice sandwich and chips. Very good value made better by the eat put help out
M. L.
Almost forgot I even ate here. Certainly not terrible but uninspiring and below what we were expecting. Staff didn't appear overly interested, meals weren't the tastiest.
J. M.
Nice meal, lovely people, nothing too much trouble. Safe environment with measures in place re social distancing etc.
C. H.
Excellent service, very nice food. Just a bit cold before the fire and heating got going (we got there not long after opening)
T. S.
Nice place, good pub grub, great service.
B. C.
SO impressed by EVERYTHING : the very helpful and courteous staff, the comfortable and delightful surroundings and last but by no means least, the beautifully prepared and presented and extremely delicious food.
G. H.
Menu is good, food is good, service was very slow this last time and staff a bit odd (wanting to order drinks - and pay!! - outside of offer menu, caused a cuffuffle) 🙄
j. s.
Excellent Sunday lunch, we were lucky to get seated, it is probably best to book in advance, the food was cooked lovely, no complaints
M. M.
Great Sunday roast and service. LOVED the bannoffee pie- delicious. High quality food at a fair price
M. F.
Took advantage of the government 50% offer :) and had a lovely meal with the family. Looking forward to my next visit.
E. J.
Very nice, good food, will be sure to return
P. L.
Absolutely wonderful night had by all, even though we were a big party of 16 the young lady who looked after us was lovely and looked after us all very professional. Would definitely return !!
S. H.
Nice pub, food ok but a bit pricey I'd say.
Does anyone else serve ice cream on a plate as a dessert? Odd.
B. F.
Good atmosphere, food was alright (had steak - honestly felt a bit overpriced for the quality). Good selection of drinks
C. C.
Bit slow with the drinks but the food is fabulous, all so fresh and full of flavour, staff were polite and friendly, would go back
S. C.
Good food and service, did friendly too
G. R.
Food very good customers service Excellent view. It was a wonderful day out I can recommend it highly
A. B.
Andy served my daughter and I, an impromptu idea so happy x had a fantastic experience lovely food, fantastic service x definitely be returning soon x nice to have someone who cares from the heart x well done xx will recommend my freinds and family but only if Andy will look after us x
m. s.
Lovely food and the staff were super helpful!
O. T.
had sunday lunch at the red cow yesterday, the atmosphere was brilliant and the staff were very attentive, the food came out in quick time and it was piping hot. will be returning!!
M. C.
Good. Enjoyed the food. Had a good pint of Pedigree. The staff were friendly, polite and helpful.
S. R.
This place focused more on being a restaurant than a pub. Large portion of the pub is now dedicated for restaurant user. Went new years eve and was disappointed, lack of atmosphere, very poor on previous years.
k. e.
Nice pub with a good country feel to it and great selection of beers ciders and spirits. Always a good vibe. And friendly atmosphere.
R. F.
Fantastic and friendly service. The food was excellent. I look forward to our next visit.
F. D.
The food was nice and the staff were lovely. A bit pricy compared to other pub meals of the same type.
M. N.
Simple pub food, good choice of beers and really friendly staff. Had good changing facility for babies which is a plus. Patrons are a friendly bunch too.
D. D.
Nice meal, staff great, could do with a bit more on your plate instead of charging £2.50 for some couliflour etc.
C. S.
Really lovely place with excellent staff and service. Food was average.
W. M.
Really amazing place to visit food amazing staff are really friendly and the best part of it it's a free house so it's not your franchise type of pub which these days is rare thing to find a free house pub/bar great selection of drinks I would recommend to visit on your travels or if you live local
m. h.
Food is great little bit pricey but worth it only down side is the wait for food even if it's not busy you still wait around minimum 30 minutes for your food, other thing is the lady blonde hair chef spends more time out of the kitchen chatting than in it.
C. B.
Limited bar area, lack of seats limited beer choice, however, a nice environment.
It's disappointing that when the bar is full and the restaurant empty using restaurant seating is forbidden.
Restaurant food is very mediocre.
M. H.
Lovely meal well presented staff helpful and efficient served by Ross who was a fantastic waiter would highly recommend the Red Cow will go again five stars
J. C.
Only the second time I have been and have not been disappointed with the quality of the food or the service on either visit. Staff are very friendly and helpful.
T. G.
Good food, friendly staff.
L. P.
It's a nice place, food is good quality and the staff were pleasant, it was a bit cold though :)
L. W.
Friendly staff and covid steps taken seriously in leaving and entering the premises so make sure that you have your facemask at all times
J. K.
Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, good range of beverages aswell as 2 fair sized gardens. Meals aren't bad either!
D. B.
Well after a recent returb and an overall improvement in standards the old ways are starting to reoccur. For the 3rd consecutive week our food was slow and overcooked. Glasses and cutlery were not as clean either and pepper condiments are not working on many tables.
D. R.
a good guinnes in good company... polite and efficient staff, clean and pleasant environment... mind your head on the beam... *grins*
b. r.
Ah I’m afraid I didn’t get that
K. A.
Male waiter with hair tied back
G. M.
Very nice place, food nice but very overpriced.
T. C.
Good pud and restaurant. Big beer garden round the back.
B. W.
Meal lovely ,Sat in area very cold no radiators on ask but still didn't come on had to put coat on .no atmosphere we had festive menu but no background music to make it Christmas feel.
D. B.
Food was fine but small portions for the price .like the new decorated rooms longish wait between starter and main coarse
J. O.
Friendly service. Good, well priced food.
M. B.
The food was great, it just took too long for it to come out, we were there for 2 and a half hours, a long time with small children
K. H.
Dined here over the weekend, food not to shabby (portion could have been bigger),service friendly, very friendly, shame about the aroma in the loo's,quite overpowering, but all in all not a bad eat.
D. S.
Nice little pub and restaurant, good selection of beers, we had fish and chips, little pricey but very nice, service was very good , I ill be going again.....

J. M.
We like the Vintage Inn group. Consistently good food, pleasant professional staff. Value for money
J. P.
Nice food and cosy pub, however can do with friendly staff
s. n.
Not too over priced on drinks but I would not recommend the food at all, over priced rubbish. Also for younger drinkers they do not do shots.

P. B.

F. M.
Not a bad pub. Nice outside area. Food could be improved. A prawn and lobster salad was sadly bereft of much lobster.
E.
Nice cosy pub, with lively atmosphere. Lovely real fire. Service was a bit slow.
M. J.
Since the red cow was refurbished the drinking area is to small and the meals r not brilliant. I have lived in lfe for 30 years and the cow is our local. 🐮😏
T. M.
Had a beautiful meal staff very friendly and very well organised with the new rules regarding the covid
C. K.
Good welcoming venue with good beer. Didn't have food on this occasion, but that which came past us looked very good.
