Great pub and garden. The drinks were cheap and still good. We had a medium white wine and a pint and only cost £8. The food also looked good. We didn't order any as we had already eaten.

Great pub with excellent choice of ales and lagers. It's dog friendly as owners have lovely sight hound that lives there. The staff are friendly especially the girl from Poland that loves cats.

Lovely cafe. Had a small veggie breakfast and a coffee and it was really nice and fulfilled me up. Coffee was very good. Service was good and they even had a resident cat!

The best pub theatre space I have ever been to! What a welcoming, warm and well-loved space. This theatre is run by volunteers and brings a fantastic variety of shows to its stage, and the pub below is great for a pre or post show drink 😊 Highly recommended.

Nice clean pub nowadays..decent pint and now serving food,hence my review..a rare foray to the cafe area by myself proved a wise choice..had a great pizza..fresh ingredients and great taste..i got more than i bargained for..i'll be there in an hour

The new refurbishment looks great but it now shuts at 8pm on a Sunday. We weren't given any warning apart from the 10 minute bell so had to drink quickly, which wasn't very responsible...

This is my local. I love the atmosphere and they offer great selection of local and craft cider and ale. There is also a little theatre upstairs which is fast becoming popular! Although the beer garden has recently become overshadowed by student flats, so it doesn't get as much sun as it used to.

You know what you're gonna get and that's not always a bad thing! Nice bar staff but no Tv's but a lot of people would consider that a positive. A bit of a throwback but has a lot of ambitions to take things forward, especially with the upstairs theatre!

I think I'm in love. Wandered in here on a whim to discover excellent micro-brewery ale, home-made pickled eggs and cobs and friendly service. Can't wait to come back and check out the theatre upstairs! Update: am now a regular!

James the landlord at the western is a great example of a community pub landlord. .. he spots the difficult folk and deals with them equally those in the community who are vulnerable. ..he supports them with dignity and respect Great leadership skills

It's an old pub but it's surrounding location lets it down badly, which are terraced houses that are run down and the area is overrun with university students and all types of foreign nationals. There is a park and river near by but the general area it is in is a little unsafe, I worked on building sites there and I didn't feel safe there. There's no parking at the pub and any parking in the streets is metered and very limited. Visit this area at your own risk.

Been coming here on & off over several years for various reasons - the "Theatre Upstairs" events, their beer festivals or just to have a relaxer or two when in the area! Pub is a "Steaming Billy" brewery pub so has their range of Real Ales plus a changing range of guest Real ales. Happily it's Traditional within the pub so a lounge and a taproom/bar plus no noisy music (nor karaoke - thank goodness!) or TVs, just conversation or contemplation according to your personal choice. Friendly Landlord and staff. Dogs allowed. Disabled accessible. Has a small beer garden to its rear side.
