Reviews of The Square Sail - JD Wetherspoon
N. U. (.
It is a spoons with outdoor and multi-floor indoor we were on table 210 which may give a clue to the size. You get what you get at typical spoons, good value food and a busy environment. The App added an funny wrinkle that my son ordered pizza from the kids menu because most of the other pizzas were sold out his indignation amused me while waiting for my food that turned up after the other meals. However we got a table at mid day on a Saturday when other places had security on the door and the place seemed at least 80% full as people finished their meals. It is what it is: cheap food and drink with hard working, busy staff running a popular place 👍
P. A.
Cold lager after parkrun in Doddington Hall. On my way back from this event running along canal in Lincoln popped in The Square Sail. I will be back here. Also tried Kopparberg cider. Definitely both have become my favourite lately. And Egg Benedict meal on bread and ham. Quite tasty
a. L.
Great location for a weatherspoons, we sat outside in the evening sunshine overlooking the Brayford water. Not far to walk into the centre of the city or to the University. The food was hot and good value for money and the staff were friendly and helpful. It can get busy.
M. W.
Good spoon's on the water front with seating outside not to many booths but nice place
Z. C.
We stopped here for lunch with our 3 kids, one of whom has severe learning disabilities and ate outside. Whilst here a motorcycle convention came, with hundreds of choppers. Fascinating, but also extremely loud and our daughter became very distressed and was screaming. The staff came over and invited our daughter into the pub, to a table at the back and closed the doors so to keep the noise down for her, despite the very loud noise SHE was making. This helped us to regulate our daughter. Most places would not have done this, they certainly wouldn't have invited our screaming daughter into their place and put her needs first. I was very impressed and told the manager so.
In fact, we normally stop at a Wetherspoons when out as a family. Their toilets are accessible and normally very clean, and we have never had any difficulties with our daughter, who has always been welcomed. Food is consistent across restaurants and of course drinks are good value.
H. P.
Can't knock the food, drinks and value for money. Just a shame not enough employees to keep tables clean from previous customers. Sat had my lunch and still previous customers pots on the table. A shame because as said can't believe how cheap but nice here.
n. m.
The service is fine and we had a Tennessee burger which was great but the building itself has the least character of any wetherspoons I've ever been in. Good location I suppose on the waterfront but for me I prefer it when wetherspoons takes over an old bank or picture house as they often do.
D. C.
Only popped in for drinks. It's a typical wetherspoons! Staff looked run ragged. Tables not clean. Good range of drink at good price. Loved the Leffe on tap!
E. E.
Would have given full 5 stars if it wasn't for the long wait for drinks then meal. Although it was very busy. Staff were polite and friendly
J. H.
Big, loud, full of kids on a Saturday night. But cheap. Oh sooooo cheap! Same round I was buying cost double in the pub up the road. It's a Wetherspoons, it's the same wherever you go. If you're looking for a lovely, clean, sophisticated, cultured night out, then go elsewhere. But did I mention it's cheap?🤣
C. O. (.
Good food at an affordable price. Sometimes can get a bit busy like when there's a match/event on. All in all it's a grand spot for dinner and drinks 👍
G. B.
I mostly got what I paid for here but it still felt like a disappointment. Prices for food and drink were good but the beef madras was awful. Fatty meat and chunky, rubbery rice. Papadoms had small puddles of oil on them but the naan bread was reasonable. Didn't see a single smile from the staff and there were many draught beers unavailable (at 7pm on a quiet Wednesday night). Redeeming factor is the price but still could do so much better. Given the location, I would expect them to try a little harder.
H. H.
Great cheap afternoon
Food ok, it is what it is but great if you want a meal and a drink for a tenner.
Great range of gin...too many when you decide to try them all haha
T. F.
Friendly place with good food and plenty of seating. Nice to have seating outside in good weather. At the side of the Brayford watch the world go by.
A. B.
Nice place but spoilt by lack of staff...and those that were there didn't seem interested in serving anybody. That was just my experience so wouldn't rush back but maybe on another day it might be different.
N. J.
Everyone knows the fare offered by Wetherspoons but the Sail offers a little extra by being sited on the river with great views ftom the 1st floor, well worth a visit.
L. T.
Third time in here with my husband.
Lovely view. Staff attentive and friendly.
Food good. Good value. Will return.
A. H.
Really friendly staff, and great selection of drinks. No music so just friendly chatter. Nice atmosphere.
L. D.
Called in before heading home on the train for breakfast but we were just too late at 11.40am so decided to have early lunch instead. Thought the deal was value for money but food nothing amazing.
D. M.
Decent place but could do with more staff at times could be waiting 10 to 15 mins to get served
J. F.
Food OK but a bit on the cool side,I had pizza,I'm marking it down as the ladies loos are upstairs as usual but there's 6 loos and 3 are out of order but the first one which is usable has no seat, none of the hand sanitizers had anything in either round the pub and that seems to be the case in a lot of wetherspoons.
A. R.
Very good food lacks a bit of atmosphere..like most wetherspoons
K. G.
stopped for breakfast whilst waiting for my train. large place, upstairs seating. next to the river. lovely views. Great service.
J. S.
Great pub, getting busy again now, staff working really hard, nice food
E. S.
Dirty tables. Hand sanitiser empty at entrance. Avocado on toast had raw tomatoes and onion on top. Why? To make it look more appetizing or bulk up the appearance . Cheap drinks
P. H.
Fabulous pub in the best destination
Always very busy says it all staff very helpful and organised
M. F.
Lovely Spoons pub by the water ,great outside space, large interior, plenty of tables downstairs, also upstairs tables, which in my opinion were superior, nice ambience, staff were excellent, twice coming to us to ask how our food was, which was very good ,after our food went to outside tables, with the fantastic weather which is ongoing, was spot on.
K. T.
Great place, good environment. Really enjoyed our meal and the company. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful.
a. b.
Wetherspoons is what it is. It is exceptionally busy in the evening but is so open it is no atmosphere or nothing to make it different. Needs a good clean.
I. W.
Good Beer. Excellent prices. Attentive staff. A little scruffy outside. Wobbly tables unacceptable. Had a great afternoon.
W. G.
Showing signs of busy day when we went, but usual Wetherspoons Great service and drinks we both like. Good outdoor space
A. B.
Very busy on a sunny weekend day. The staff were struggling to cope and clear tables. Good prices for drinks
D. H.
Drinks are really reasonably priced however the steak we had to eat was really tough and fatty
C.
Beautiful tasting food. Brilliant service. Recommended.
G. M.
Nice views and lovely affordable meals.
Plenty of sitting space inside but pretty limited outside.
B. T.
Lovely food and clean pub very helpful as I'm disabled. Great prices . Staff were excellent
G. W.
Standard Weatherspoons food. 30+ minutes wait. And as usual they forgot the mango chutney. Pleasant staff
C. M.
Excellent pub good music nice relaxed atmosphere and staff are welcoming
C. T.
Went out with the lads and I can't complain; all the food is orderable from an App and it's certainly swift. Seemed rather busy but we still had decent service;
I have included some of the graffiti from the men's bathroom.
C. A.
Good service for a busy pub. Great prices and a friendly manageress and staff.
S. B.
It’s a very busy pub on a Friday night, which is not surprising considering the location, but don’t go expecting it to be the typical quite experience for a Wetherspoons. The tables outside overlooking the marina are nice and there’s a very small upstairs seating area inside. It doesn’t feel like there’s enough staff working for the crowds though, as tables rarely got cleared of glasses, plus bizarrely when serving food empty plates were never taken away. But compared to the nearby alternatives it’s a very affordable option.
J. P.
It is what it is. It's clean and friendly and the beer is fine. Just a bit tired and in need of a face lift.
D. D.
No music playing but still a good atmosphere and you can hear yourself talk. I recommend it.
M. D.
Chicken Burgers were a bit greasy, which made the baps soggy, poppadoms dripping in oil, nobody asked if meal was OK was busy but it takes 2 minutes to ask. Curry was good and drinks fine.
v. H.
It was a very nice place too visit but the service was a bit slow as they were very busy at the time we were there .
E. G.
Weatherspoons...consistently good value for your money. Newish pub in Marina in Lincoln. Very good.
S. S.
A bit disappointing as it was on the waterfront I did expect a nicer Wetherspoons.
No guest sales and tables dirty.
Ready for a refurb.
J. B.
fast service, lovely staff, great food, highly recommend
D. N.
Absolutely packed to the rafters but the sun was out which made all the difference. Good cheap food and cheap drinks with a lovely atmosphere.
K. W.
Had breakfast here for 2 days. Menu items we wanted was available and tasted good. Staff were at a minimum but they were friendly. Ordered on the app as queue for bar long. Lots of tables to choose from. Nice location along the river.
P. D.
Great place to eat and drink and excellent value for money. Fantastic location. Would not go anywhere else.
j. a.
Typical Wetherspoons, good food and drinks at the best prices
R. S.
Very good service, staff who pull pints correctly and the food was very good. All in all a nice pub to go to
P. S.
Waited long time for meal and no apologies, some others walked out. Food ok, could have been warmer.
B. F.
Food took almost an hour to arrive. Was lovely and worth the wait. Staff were friendly.
d. b.
Great place for a quick drink or meal
Good prices.
k. s.
Very busy as you would expect with meals and drinks the the prices they are, staff pleasant to talk to.
R. S.
Quick service, reasonably good menu, well cooked food, good ale, nice staff.
k. s.
Was Friday evening, fast service, and overall not a lot can say, could find table. All the facilities you need
S. E.
Breakfast was OK, had the full english, plates were cold, so food went cold quickly. The tables were still sticky from night before. Poor bar staff looked like they hadn't been to bed yet. Served quickly though with a smile.
G. M.
Could do with more staff had long wait. Also menus should be by door it seems ridiculous that you havebto walk to the other side of bar to get them. Also when meal arrives and you want sauces again right at the end of bar why not just bring selection with meal or at least say when ordering sauces are over there. Also only one larger available ad pumps not working seems ti me that a company as large as yours would hsven24/7 Engineers to repair. But overal good food and drink
M. D.
The place is okay but the self claimed manageress has very poor customer service skills and absolutely stinks of stale cigarette smoke.
G. W.
Very busy long wait for food. Saying that this is the best Spoons in Lincoln
A. L.
Good beer and great beer garden
P. C.
Amazing chaps! Great food! An incredible atmosphere! Great drinks, a large selection of beers.
M. C.
Typical 'Spoons, better food than the price point should suggest, there was a query on a cheesy garlic pizza bread which had to be chased but not a big deal.
A. J.
served by eliza we were a difficult table but she was very kind and patient! Thank you!
D. C.
Fantastic value for money, very friendly team
B. H.
What is if with Wetherspoons at the moment. Went in the one in Sleaford, restricted menu, no gas. This one had no Doombar nor any Ruddles. I put it down to the don't care attitude.
N. B.
Been in here tonight with friends and one of the bar staff who served us was so rude that is why have rated you 3 stars
D. B.
Alway up to good standard. Weatherspons never fail price and quality
R. R.
The food was gorgeous!
Plenty of room.
Comfortable tsbles
The staff go beyond what is expected!
Absolutely wonderful place.
This is my first time in Lincoln and I was recommended to eat here by several local people.. Wasn't disappointed!!
I don't give 5 stars easily, BUT this really deserves it😊🌟
H. O.
Very clean and quick service. Best spoons iv been to.
C. S.
Lovely breakfast and unlimited coffee/tea with a visit for reasonably priced breakfast
D. N.
Wetherspoons outlet on the marina front, buzzing lively atmosphere, great Ales and drinks choices, extensive menu, cheap and cheerful, though value for money quality food.
S. B.
Service was ok. Food was well it's weather spoons so alright. Not the best spoons IV had but was eatable
G. J.
Great location but a bit scruffy. Appear short of staff as lots of tables needed clearing
K. B.
Really enjoyed a few hours here. After a meal out at a nice restaurant up the hill, we came back here, had a bottle of wine at a good price and shared a dessert. Staff were friendly and helpful. Open till twelve so didn't feel rushed. Well done. Covid controls we good but relaxed.
P. M.
Obviously a good local pub but staff could be a lot smarter.
J. R.
Nice and modern. Lager was decent too that you don't always get at spoons.
T. C.
Good prices and a decent place to stop for a drink and maybe some food.
M. H.
Very busy,but table,s cleared and cleaned.quickly served.
R. P.
Great pub good beer good food
Great spot for people watching in the sunshine on the brayford.
N. J. W.
Another great J D Wetherspoons pub. This one is in the centre of Lincoln with good views across the river. Great service at very reasonable prices.
M. B.
It's a spoons, but it's a good one. But the view from outside is spoiled by Wagamama.
A. M.
One of the staff looks like Daniel Radcliffe.
He was friendly and helpful too. Our food couldn't have come quicker if we had wiggled a wand and said Accio burgers.
Although that is kind of how the online ordering works. Kind of.
L. H.
Came here before a concert, cheapest place of the night, friendly staff, didn't eat but the food that came past us looked nice
G. B.
Great location right by the Marina thought staff could have been a bit more efficient
m. g.
Service o.k food disappointing but a lovely atmosphere
B. W.
Very dark & dingy inside compensated for by outside area & drink prices.
D. L.
I found the fish greasy . Although service wasn't too bad .
S. B.
Well set out to deal with restrictions. Not the usual chaos it is in there which was good and you could actually have a conversation without having to shout at one another which was nice. Service was swift, polite and and attentive staff. All was good.
B. S.
I was going to give it 3* for the food & clientele but it got an extra * for the clientele 😂 The mixed grill was overcooked and jacket potato with cheese appeared to have been left under the heat lights for too long so the cheese had gone from melted to solid.
The entertainment outside from a group discussing their love lives in detail was hilarious however, it's on the quay with lots of young families walking past all the time. Their language, for adults I'd guess in their 50s, was disgusting despite some of the group trying to calm the others down.
A. W.
One of the better Wetherspoons locations. Modern interior (for a Wetherspoons anyway), good service speed and friendly staff. Seating could be better and the character was practically non-existent, but name me any chain pub in a modern building and I can guarantee you that the problems will be identical. Does the job, does it relatively well, nothing to complain about.
N. C.
The service was good. The food was fine - Spoons standard. It is located in a nice area, looking onto the dock. No complaints.
K. H.
Staff night out. App service was great, quick service
M. C.
Brilliant food served quick, drinks too. The lovely human who refused my tip with the lil sun and clouds/linked pinky fingers tattoo on her arm is an absolute star. I work in service too and it's not often I feel that connection we're so often pushed to make. I can't stress enough how brilliant their service was all round, just please give notice to this individual that they're brilliant!
P. P.
Put simply cheap and cheerful, it was relatively busy in there this lunch but the food and beverages came out quickly. Like a well oiled food and beverage delivery service, the kind you'd expect from robots. Only negative is the plates make me have flashbacks from my Nan's house, when there was some leftovers from Sunday lunch she'd plate them up on the 'dog' plate for our pooch to gobble down...
J. I.
Staff lovely not much on the menu left
Y. P.
Amazing. You can easily order in the app, pay online and your order comming your way alredy! Free refill on hit chocolate! Astonished!
A. J.
Very good breakfast deal! Nice food and friendly staff! Would certainly return!
N. F.
got called an alcoholic after my 4th bottle of wine on a Tuesday morning, i ordered a pizza and it came with the physique of a Frisbee, honestly could of volleyed it through some granny's gaff, some guy asked for my sons number....(he's 12). didn't know spoons condoned peadophilic behavior. atrocious service. lost my hair by the time the pizza came, some man with a huge chin, spewed in the toilet, then proceeded to put his hands places hands should not go. all in all would definitely would eat here.
J. x.
Good. Prices of drinks and food are good. The app works really well.. so you can order from the table. My steak didn't come how I asked, wanted rare-med and it came out well done but it still tasted yummy. Overall we enjoyed our visit and would go again
J. H.
Not a brilliant experience, coffee from machine was just warm and the food was just warm. I don't think we'll rush back......
m. s.
All the usuall food & drink apart from choice of freedom foods , that's what they like to call utdn free , g/ f breakfast ok just .
C. C.
Lovely place. Feels like a 2nd home. Bar people are great.
G. S.
Really nice place. Friendly staff and nice food.
S. M.
I went in last week and nobody asked whether I had registered my details for covid. The empty tables were strewn with empty glasses.
I sat down on a filthy chair and I waited and waited.Ten minutes later the glasses were taken away but the table wasnt cleaned. Twenty minutes later still not served so I left. The whole place is dirty, very run down and tired. It was grossly understaffed whilst the manager? just ponced about doing nothing. Its so bad you nearly want to wipe your shoes on the way out! Personally I would rather pay more money and go to a nicer, cleaner pub with a better atmosphere, decent food and less alcoholics..
A. H.
Great setting and a fantastic pint well recommended
S. S.
Stopped in for breakfast, which was just the right amount.
M. C.
It was lovely to sit outside in the sunshine enjoying a drink with friends. Plus we would like to say a big thank you to the person who handed in my partners wallet when he dropped it as we left. We didn't realise for quite some time, rang up and found it had been handed in completely intact. So popped back for some more drinks and to collect it. Whoever you are, thank you. We would have liked to buy you a drink but don't know who you are. 🥂🍾😘
K. B.
Great food at affordable prices - quite dark inside but staff are very friendly & helpful! Wheelchair access for downstairs with disabled toilet which I find is sometimes clean but not always depending on when you go 😬 can access toilet with radar key - if you dont have one then ask a staff member - again very friendly - so don't be afraid to ask! Always busy here as its at a prime location and the seating outside is glorious in the summer months!
S. M.
Decent food for a weatherspoons and great location
A. C.
Couldn't have been anywhere better in Lincoln, sat outside in the hot sun overlooking the Brayford ordering drinks through the app.
M. H.
Excellent as always mixed grill and a pint
G. M.
Great service, had no sweet chilli sauce for the chicken wrap but that's the third Wetherspoons that can't fulfill that order. Nice place to visit.
A. S.
Typical spoons pub. Cheap food and drinks. Good location overlooking the Riverside.
S. T.
Friendly staff and great value food
d. s.
The service was a bit shame as forgot my salad but spoke to manager
M.
On our stay from Nottingham 4 days,.came here each morning for breakfast and dinner in evenings, excellent food, amazing Guiness (very close to Ireland quality) nice staff, welcomed our 2 year old boy, well run and enjoyed very much
t. s.
Typical Weatherspoons good food and drinks👍👍
J. A.
Service a bit slow food was okay apart from my sons girlfriends jacket was a bit dry as they didn't give her any butter
S. S.
Fantastic lunch!!!!! Ticked al the Boxes , it was busy at spoons but after ordering my lunch I sat down & within 10 mins my food was placed in front of me!!!! It was hot 🔥fresh & fantastic value for money!!!! Weldone spoons 🤗🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
P. J.
£1.65 for a cappuccino and a biscuit and free refills!!
Wonderful
R.
Cheap and a nice place for a night out, but the food is often mistaken. Had eggs delivered with a vegan breakfast when they were fairly empty.
g. m. (.
Yet another great two meals with drinks in Weatherspoons. This time on the beautiful BrayFord wharf in Lincoln ...... super value for money. Friendly service.
t. m.
A popular good priced restaurant good service and good food.
One problem is not all of the munu is on there app so if you want something that's on the card or paper munu you will have to order at the bar
G. H.
Perfectly located. Very clean tidy and friendly
M. K.
Very comfortable to sit inside and outside for a drinks. Staff were very friendly.
We didn't have anything to eat, unable to give a review on the food.
J.
The Pub is very spacious inside and the staff were very helpful. The drinks were great as always but the food just good, but a bit plain.
L. F.
As spoons go this is what you'd expect. Cheap food, sticky floors and decent service. This is a strong physical encapsulation of the idea of a J D Wetherspoon pub
W. L.
Not the best I have been in, very limited in beer choices.
p. g.
Only went for a drink after a meal in Prezzo down the quay. All staff and most customers wore masks (the customers when moving around inside the pub) and there was good social distancing. As it is a Witherspoon's, the prices are very competitive - decent bottle of wine for just over a tenner. They made sure everyone was out by the 10pm curfew. Didn't have any food but what I saw looked okay. Nice position on the quay. Would be nice on a sunny summer's day.
K. J.
A really nice spoons! Lovely staff and lovely location
I. H.
Again lovely but why is all weatherspoon toilets upstairs
R. W.
Called in on a Saturday afternoon, was quite busy but was still served at the bar quickly. Staff still smiled even though they seemed run ragged. A decent pint of Guinness & comfy seating was gladly enjoyed.
D. H.
Had ham egg and chips very nice with a beer and wine for the wife
C. T.
Fairly typical Wetherspoons. Great value.
B. B.
Lovely beautiful staff, cheap drinks, always a table there for you, great place for friends and family. Staff couldn't do enough for you 😊
R. C.
Our waiter was Angus. He mentioned it was his first day and we thought he did a great job. He was very attentive and friendly. Lovely drinks 💜
R. C.
Second visit to The Square Sail heading for the east coast.
Arrived around 9:30am for breakfast. Not too busy this time in the morning, some regulars in and quite a few in for breakfast.
Staff on duty were attentive and cheerful, ordered a veggie breakfast for the wife and a large veggie breakfast for myself (first time).
Paid for 2 coffee cups for free refills from the coffee machine....not bad coffee.
Breakfast was great, all ingredients cooked well and it was hot.
Can't say what the pub is like in the evening, never been. No hesitation coming back.
S. K.
Alot bigger than you think. Excellent value for money as with any Wetherspoons. Great location.
p. m.
Another great Wetherspoon location. What is there to say. Good food for a good price.
A.
Food was good, ordered a medium steak though but was definitely more like well done, not a problem for me but just something to keep in mind. Large seating space with big tables for larger groups to sit, also additional seating upstairs. Pretty much your standard spoons pub.
m. c.
Had a good time, with friends, lovely atmosphere and good service.
B. C.
Very nice clean place to drink
a. s.
Nice pub (weatherspoons) good selection of drinks as expected, food is quick and convenient at the price you would expect. Clean and tidy.
T. S.
Student friendly place :-) Prices are ok - and using their special offers, you can get fairly cheap food and drink here.
Atmosphere is nice, especially if you bring some friends and create your own.
Not to difficult to fit larger groups (6-8-10 people), and all in all the place is quite relaxed and chill.
Quality of the food can vary, so don't be afraid to send something back if it isn't up to standard.
Quite good variety in the beer selection, and drinks in large pitchers, so there should be something for everybody.
I may pop by again next time I visit Lincoln :-)
H. A.
Great location, beautiful view of Brayford Pool. The pub is clean and well look after. A pleasant watering hole for the weary traveler!
D. H. B.
Brilliant for pre drinks and food
B. C.
Was okay for a drink - didn't have food. Table wasn't as clean as it could have been. Also looked at the app to order a drink. All publicity material does not tell you the name of the pub! Ordered at the bar instead of going out to see what it was called. Did want to chance someone in another pub getting my drink for free!
J. P.
One of the best weatherspoons breakfast I've ever eaten.
G. W.
Good pub with a biggish seating area outside, loads of choice as usual and food looked and smelt great. Well worth a visit.
a. f.
Waited over 35 minutes from ordering to receiving our food
D. l.
Friendly pub staff not always ready to serve
S. E.
We ordered meals, unfortunately your pizza oven broke. We ordered another meal. It came very quickly, also gave us our money back for the pizza. So very pleased. Thank you
P. M.
Great place, great food and value
J. B.
Very busy. A lot of tables not cleared.
Coffee good, but it would be better to have a couple of tickets, or vouchers, for the free refills. It would be good to have a drink and then go shopping or have a short walk and then return for another drink, instead if having to drink 2 cups before leaving.
S. G.
Nice views of the marina from upstairs, great in the summer but limited outdoor seating.cheap drinks as always from wetherspoons.
K. H.
Staff were not very helpful, everything was too much for them.
A. E.
Had a couple if drinks, was quite dirty, food and sauce packets all over floor. But is a cheap weatherspoons!
M. P.
Good service, good beer, good food all at a great price.
If you're looking for a quite evening on a weekend then this place is not for you. Weekend evenings in this place are rammed especially during term time.
I stick to my opening comment as even when busy the staff work hard to give you the best service.
Always worth trying if your passing.
a. w.
When we went it was really busy, we sat up stairs and orded food down stairs. Even though it was busy the food came really quick, and it was really nice. I also used the app to order a few drinks with which was really good and they brought them to the table really quick.
S. T.
Typical Wetherspoons establishment great swift service and food.
S. Y.
Took a while to order food and drinks as I had never done it before but eventually got the hang of it. Food was lovely and so was the service.
G. F.
Nice place to chill. A little disappointed with the selection of real ales. Every witherspoon's l've been in, usually have more selection.
P. E.
Eaten at plenty of Spoons, and they seem to fall into one of two camps. One where the chef cares about the food going out to the paying punters or two, where the chef doesn't give a fig about the food going out to the paying punters.
Now let's face it we know what we are getting at Spoons. I am under no illusion , it's value hearty food, either deep fried or microwaved - but cooked well, it's good.
My local Spoons in Manchester serves the best chips .. seriously. Amazing.
So this one in Lincoln. Had the Xmas dinner this week. Gravy under the plate , Luke warm mash, thick stodgy gravy, not sure where the carrots were. It was just a poor reflection of what it could have been.
And that's what I mean. Lack of care or giving a fig about the food going out, and even with a drink it's a tad overpriced at just Short of a tenner ..
I have had better food here , but this spoons wouldn't be in my top ten for food.
S. W.
Love this place, good atmosphere, good food and fantastic beer served at right temperature. Unfortunately been put off staying today because of smell of vomit. I observed others leave, covering their noses. Please get it fumigated.
A. C.
Absolutely delightful food.
Waiting time was amazing.
Price was reasonable.
Drinks were good size and acceptable prices.
All round brilliant, recommend on giving it a try! Will be defiantly having this again!
M. J.
Nice place, and good amount of tables. Service was slow on this occasion and one of the servers was a bit grumpy and tossed my son's fruit yo-yo onto the table. Will have to see next visit if it's improved.
S. C.
As with most Wetherspoons the food was good value for money. The staff by and large were friendly and helpful but some looked very tired, not sure why 😁
A. H.
Nice venue, with a good choice of draught beers & food, but on this occasion, the 12oz Rump Steak I had was very tough. Not what I expected and hopefully just a one off due to being very busy. That is why I did not complain.
L. C.
The member of staff behind the bar that served us for the night was very rude. Took a long time to get drinks even though it wasn't busy and staff were stood chatting. It wasn't the cleanest of places either. However the good was cheap, served fast and tasted nice.
N. S.
Worse mens toilets ever see at wethspoons
B. J.
Can’t beat a great spoons.
F. H.
Great pub. Hot chocolate is amazing
T. H.
Nice outside space on the waterfront, inside it is a wetherspoons what more can you say
The staff were really friendly on my two visits
J. A.
Like all J D's now needing some reinvestment even though this outlet is pretty new. But it's a spoons..... Price's creeping up and beer supply limited. Deliveries I guess?
j. i.
Brilliant good beer excellent food.
R. H.
food was ok, nohhing special, usual JD stuff, was that Bush, had to get table cleaned down and servicexwas ok.
A. L.
Been here few times over the last few weeks, as getting a new kitchen fitted. Normally eat at wetherspoons on high street, but stopped eating there now, as 2 rude waitresses, slammed down 2 plates in front of me and my partner, didnt even ask who's was who's, and just left. Not for me thanks!
Came here the other day, and recieved great service from a bald young man (if I remember correctly) with tattoos down his arms, as he bought the plates over he noticed only 2 onion rings were on my plate and apologised and said he will be back in a minute. I didnt even mention anything as I didnt even notice the onion rings to be honest, as they were just extra on the burger, not a side. Then he came back with a side plate of onion rings. Fantastic service from the young man, customer service at its finest, and credit well deserved. My partner who works as a manager in a pub, was also very pleased, and even she mentioned how great he was.
The food tasted fab, the speed was good for the volume of people, seems to be smoothly run.
Would recommend, and possibly the best experience in a wetherspoons to date.
Thank you.

Firstly, it's a Wetherspoons so don't expect too much from The Square Sail pub in Lincoln at Brayford Wharf.
However, if you avoid the busy peak times this is a good pub to visit for drinks, a meal, or both.
The drinks list and menus have something for everyone and at good prices.
If you want a light meal try their mini fish and chips that are served with garden or mushy peas.
My partner and I chose this and it was just as good if not better than what you would of been served in a dedicated fish and chip restaurant (like Whitbys in Sheffield or The Mermaid restaurant in Leeds) but at half their costs!
Drink costs are reasonable too and it just shows you that every bar or pub doesn't really have to charge you a high price for what you want, and that's on a like-for-like basis.
Service was good and fast and at the time of our visit the pub was about 90% full.
Worst thing was empty tables covered in used crockery and glasses, and that's not what you want when your looking for a place to sit and dine at.
But, as mentioned at the beginning of this review, this is a Wetherspoons pub, so you get what you pay for. Just don't let you put off visiting, as otherwise it's perfectly fine.
G. M.
It's a Spoon's, don't need to say anything else!
S. B.
Good location very busy
J. W.
Food is good value and OK, particularly breakfast. It's not gourmet but perfectly acceptable. Very popular as an after work watering hole and as a place to meet at the weekend. Popular with all ages, doesn't attract the rowdy types, some young lads get a bit, well you you know young lads but they usually have the good grace to apologise if they stumble into your table. The jugs are very popular with my friends but alas I always have to drive and it peaves me that the price of soft drinks are on a par with alcoholic ones but then that is the same everywhere. Toilets are very clean.
J. J.
Nice pub great location.
S. B.
Nice and relaxed place. Cheap food and tasted delish. Really good service. Definitely will go again.
H. U.
It's a Wetherspoons. No better or worse than any other, nicer position than many. Food is standard quality, prices are extremely reasonable.
H. M.
Nice place to meet up with friends. Lovely food and we got to use their new table service. Just download the app, order your drinks/food, pay on your phone, and they delivery it to your table!! Brilliant!!
r. s.
Excellent surroundings and the staff are friendly. A great place to visit and enjoy the vast range of beers and wine
S. B.
Been in here a good few times but today there is a distinct lack of energy , lazily we ordered via the app and 16 minutes later we still hadnt got our drinks, i went to the bar as i could see our order from where i was seated , it wasnt busy and there seem to be enough staff around , so why tf did it take so long ??? Ive worked in the pub trade and its usually customer focused , as in without customers you dont have a job , so what the heck is wrong with these people ?? Wake up ! Serve the people that keep you in employment.
A. W.
Very busy pub with table service only. Went here as a party of 4 for the couple of nights we stayed in Lincoln. The meals we had here were very enjoyable but the poor staff were rushed off their feet
K. D.
Went in for a nice salad but alas there was none - along with many other meals.
l. b.
Great starting place before a night out, always seems busy but the bar staff don't keep you waiting to long.
They serve food to and there's plenty of chain restaurant's nearby and the world's most expensive cinema if you've got to much money and fancy watching a film.
Tip: the toilets are all the way upstairs, so use the disabled wc opposite the bar 😉
G. C.
This a Wetherspoon's pub and you know what you're going to get such as menu, prices and range of drinks. Was very busy and only just found a table. Staff helpful as always, food great at a reasonable price. Highly recommended.
P. R.
First time I've had a meal in this place, very good, staff excellent, will definitely go again.
D. H.
I've been using the order and pay app, it's quick table service at a great place! There arent many places you can have a meal and get drunk without standing up. My favourite reasonably priced venue in Lincoln.
A. H.
Most staff were really nice, 1 not so much, but the quality of the food and the speed the drinks were brought over even though was so busy made up for it.
R. L.
Typical Weatherspoon pub at Brayford Wharf, which is a nice area near to the town centre in Lincoln (just a short walk). The food was good - and cheap as you would expect. As usual the toilets are upstairs, but there is also a seating area up there, which is a bit quieter than the main pub. The only real disappointment was the coffee. I paid for two cups and was given two mugs and directed to a coffee machine. My wife had a regular coffee, which she said was OK but the decaf option was a sachet of Nescafe. That's really poor. Won't be having a coffee in Wetherspoons again if that's what they are doing...
T. J.
After dining here for lunch, the menu was extensive with plenty of good options, prices were good for budget eating. Food arrived quickly and drinks are excellent price. Atmosphere was nice and the staff were friendly
Only downside, was the table in which we had to sit was sticky and unclean, which knocks down a whole star for me.
J. D.
Excellent prices formfood and drink, lots of seating and good location. Only complaint is that toilet are up 3 flights of stairs
V. H.
Friendly staff, quick efficient service, standard food! Nice location.
A. A.
It's a Spoon's - you know what you're gonna get
A. J.
Great Weatherspoons located on the wharf side.
c. b.
Plenty of space - good service and lovely location. Try the tables on the first floor overlooking the marina - fantastic..!!
B. S.
Efficient service, for drinks at table. Quick delivery of food items, comfy seating & interesting pictures on wall!
c. m.
Typical 'spoons, great location and price. Bit rowdy later in the day.
B. S.
Good food, lots of choice, ordered through an app which are it easier for everyone. Only thing was when we looked on the app for a certain drink it wasn't there but when searched for it was.
G. W.
Very nice Wetherspoons with upstairs and downstairs seating. They have a quiz on Mondays some weeks and on weekends sometimes play music as well. It’s right on the Brayford so you can sit by a window and look out onto the beautiful waterfront.
R. H.
Good Witherspoon's pub. Food etc excellent quality for the money. Drinks are superb with lots of variety. This one is a bit industrial and has a lot of students in. Not much atmosphere.
J. H.
I find this place really noisy. It's got an industrial feel about it and minimal soft furnishings so the sound bounces rather than being absorbed. Bar staff very efficient. Reasonably priced.
B. H.
A decent standard of Wetherspoons service. The app works great at this franchise branch, staff are very courteous when serving and always made us feel safe. Atmosphere is great on night without sport (haven't experienced with). Drinks selection is vast with guest ales and a variety of spirits and mixers. Prices as with all Wetherspoons are incredibly competitive.
A. R.
Good food and drink! Lovely atmosphere
P. V.
Really nice and enjoyable breakfast bar staff was very friendly. Even though one of the bar staff got stuff by a wasp she was still very helpful and tried her best to carry on well done you we will defiantly be back here a excellent spot looking out onto the waters
L. “. N.
wow! good value for money, a bit rowdy with young ones but the meal deals with a free drink is brill..didn't have long to wait...staff friendly and the meal was lovely...can't fault it.
I. F.
Good service from a lone and over worked bar man
X.
Have Corona on draught, which was great. Nice food. Staff were great as it was busy and a group of lads were quite rude to say the least.
M. R.
Great food. Cheap enough... food arrived quickly. Table was dirty but we joined the table straight after someone so not staff/establishments fault.
S. W.
Lovely location and great breakfast. Good selection of Cask Ales too although I was on my way to work so stuck to coffee.
Staff on day were good too.
A. B.
Large spoons next to the waterfront in Lincoln , speedy service and plenty of room .The toilets upstairs are not too far away for a change
A. P.
Very friendly staff and found quick service.
S. W.
Modern building on the marina quayside. Food was quite good but the tables were not properly cleaned and lots of food scraps on the floor under tables.
B. A.
This pub has a great location within Lincoln. It is situated on the Bradford pool with the university on the other side. You can get some food which is typical of a wetherspoons pub with plenty of seating upstairs and down. There are the usual beers to choose from along with some guest asked which can change from time to time. It can get busy during the evening's so if you are after a quiet drink this may not be the place for you after dark. Overall if your visiting Lincoln is not a bad place for a drink or a bite to eat.
s. d.
A curry and a pint of Gwynt Ddraig black dragon. Good combination, and great service
A. J.
Always quite busy but as good as any other spoons. Fair prides and decent food. New refillable tea and coffee policy of sitting in to do work all day is veryyyy appreciated
K. J.
Nice food was hot quick and tasty, no complaints, just wish ladies loos were downstairs,
P. O.
Went here yesterday 5th Feb .can't fault the food was good but the service not so good we asked for the table to be cleared of the prev people's glasses and be cleaned nope . When food came asked again they took some glasses didn't clean anything or come back it was busy but not terrible no-one really seemed to care about the mess on alot of tables so not really impressed
L. W.
Love this weatherspoons
One of the best I've been too
Go twice a week as they accept my assistance dog as well
Very friendly and helpful staff
Quick service
J. E.
Daytime was ok with distanced seating and dividers in place, table service fairly quick although some orders initially at the wrong place, food usual reasonable Wetherspoon standard, evening couldn't get in at 9o'clock"it's the rules"quoted to me.The afternoon before the shutdown had to queue outside quite a long time, same as previously service ,food and drink ok.Obviously virus causing abnormal operation.
M. P.
Best place for reasonably priced drinks and food. We usually start our night here before going into town. Nearly always busy so can be difficult to get a seat
M. N.
Great place. Friendly staff. Great food and drink. All things good with the rules and guidelines for covid 19. Big thumbs up to all the staff, you are doing a great job
M. C.
It's Wetherspoons so you know what you are getting. Went on a busy Saturday lunch time. It was packed but managed to get a seat and service quick for how busy it was. Food as expected. Nice area outside.
J. T.
One of the better Wetherspoons I have been too decent food and great for a quick pint. I would recommend for anyone going out with friends for a drink.
A. R.
Brilliant drinks prices. Definitely a place to visit.
G. B.
As always with a wetherspoon great food and drink at great prices.
r. s.
Visit most times when in town.Don’t expect five star attention and quality from a three star pub chain,it is what it is cheap and cheerful.Be happy, its a great meeting place Sorry Tim your new Australian brandy is just not for me,so it’s back on the scotch ,(disappointing).
S. C.
Food was good, service quick and staff pleasant and friendly
B. S.
One of the better wetherspoon pubs, great position, nice outside seating, great coffee too with breakfast 😃
I. T.
We visited on Tuesday which is grill day. No mustard available for the mixed grill. My friends Steak was almost inedible due to the gristle and fat. On asking why no mustard we were told there was no call for it and it was going out of date. From now on this branch was not going to have mustard but we could bring our own if we wanted. After all its cheap we were told and not stocking mustard keeps the cost down. I suppose I could bring my own Sirloin Steak next time as well, preferably one with tender meat that we could eat.
I for one will not be eating there again in a hurry, I feel for the staff who were polite and had to justify the indefensible, managerial decision to buy awful meat, and not provide a staple condiment that even the crumiest establishment would normally. If cheap means putting up with that, then count me out.
J. W.
Food was good, staff friendly and polite. Was quite busy during lunch.
O. M.
Lively boozer authentic water side, we tend to end up here for a couple whenever we're in Lincoln. Typical spoons atmosphere, cheap drinks, cheap food, all you need for a good night out!
Friendly staff, this one is wheelchair friendly, lots of standing and seating space, it's huge!
It's very central so easy to get to, top bar!
H. B.
Fairly new wetherspoons but still the same good choice at great prices. Only criticism is that the tables weren't cleared or wiped, at 530pm it was fairly quiet so they should have been done really
B. L.
Excellent value for money, good staff
D. L.
The slowest service of any Weatherspoons ever.
S. H.
Very pleasant, had a wonderful meal, and a Great location
T.
Standard weatherspoons fair, decent food, a few casks on tap. Can be fairly busy during uni term time being a good choice for decent food. My choice for a good breakfast to start the day.
P. C.
Does what Wetherspoons does best - good value food and drink in a friendly way
B. R.
Typical wetherspoons prices right food consistent no frills but always full.
A. S.
A very modern pub on the Waterside.
K. N.
Cheap food, got a lot of open space for sitting
J.
Went here for breakfast on our last day in Lincoln. Great service and food didn't take long either.
t. w.
Good food and good prices
R. W.
Lovely place by the water side. Beer wasn't too well kept had a few bad pints that had to be returned.
A. H.
Felt very safe visiting this place during the pandemic. I observed them sanitising hand rails and even sanitisers on a regular basis. Service and prices spot on, why go anywhere else?
J. S.
The pub serves fans of Lincoln City's opponents. Wetherspoon prices are perfect for the food and drink. You know what you are getting in a "spoons" pub. Sadly, the restrooms are not particlarly good though. no seat on one toilet, door kicked in on another. Loose taps on some sinks. For this reson alone, 3 stars only.
A. B.
It's not a sail and it's not square! It's a Spoons. Always busy and and always good value food.
C. B.
Called in for breakfast. Fresh food and hot. Service was fast.
L. S.
Brilliant place to go if you need a really nice place to go for a meal and a drink. Lovely staff food is great you don't have to wait long for your food.
H. P.
A very nice iteration of a wetherspoons pub. Covid secure with track and trace and screens between tables. All members of staff wearing masks. Food is standard wetherspoons affair
D. R.
Great pub in a great location by the waterfront. Two levels so plenty of room. Be warned though, if you need the toilet, it's three flights of stairs.
H. W.
Didn't have any fish& chips available eggs over cooked on ham egg and chips
B. H.
Great meal as usual.
A. C.
Visiting Lincoln we found the wharf and the promenade with a good variety of eateries. We often visit a Wetherspoons pub for a great deal on drinks and food and The Square Sail did not disappoint. There is plenty of seating and we found an upper floor with views out over the water. A nice location and those good food and drink deals. Recommended for a break after or during a visit to Lincoln’s excellent shopping centre.
T. T.
Visitng Lincoln from Plymouth and wanted an easy dinner, happy to find the Square Sail.Had a lovely meal with our 11 year old son. Good food, great value, polite service and will definitley come again hopefully when the weather is a little warmer and we can take advantage of the outdoor seating!
A. H.
Great place to sit outside and watch the world go by, both people and boats. Just a shame about the awful wagamama monolith that's been allowed to squat on the quayside.
J. A.
Was ok..what you expect from a weatherspoons
M. K. (.
Still loving JDW. Guest beers always fabulous at a superb price.
S. T.
The meals were good quality here, and good value. Three of us dined but as they had run out of one of our chosen main courses and two of our chosen desserts it was a little disappointing.
L.
The food was delicious but we had rude service, it was a lady with glasses and it was the table at the bottom left on the 21/8/20 , she kept on being sarcastic with us and chucked our knifes and forks down.
R. U.
It's a Spoons...cheap booze and a sticky carpet. They do serve a good breakfast though
C. W.
We visit this place every week, Good food.pleasant place..Pity the tables are not cleared quicker.and cleaned properly .quite often have to move Glasses to sit at a table of our choice.Did complain and someone was sent to clean the table only cleaned the bit where we sat not the other half of the table which was not clean.. otherwise a nice place to visit.
T. W.
Opens early so great for breakfast.
Serves a good selection of beers and lagers .
C. W.
Amazing Food, seriously by far the best wetherspoons I've ever been to for taste of food. Wow!!!!
D. B.
4 of the 5 meals we had there was ok,the 5th meal of fish, chips and mushy peas not so good, there was about 7 chips, half a teaspoon of mushy peas and the fish was about the size of a fish finger. The overall pricing was quite reasonable.
E. F.
Good location next to the water. Busy but delivered the usual weatherspoons standard
p.
Coffee with free refill was very good. Food came out quickly and was lovely. Staff very friendly and good at the job. Will be back soon.
A. A.
My first time in a restaurant in almost 18 months. Loved it, great fish and chips.
r. g.
Excellent value and service
m. e.
Had breakfast and was cooked very well, I've eaten in a lot of wetherspoons and this breakfast was one of the nicest.
J. C.
It's good, but when you order your drinks on the app ( we had breakfast ) you then have to go all the way downstairs for the milk for your brew! First world problems, eh?!
N. H.
Clean and tidy 🤗Staff helpful 😁In these difficult times ☹️ you do have to wait for a table and sanitise your hands 😬If you down load the app before hand🙄 it helps with ordering drinks and food 😀 thanks 😳😈😎
J. L.
Very busy city centre place. The staff weren't able to keep it looking clean and tidy on the evening I visited. Food was OK though and drinks inexpensive.
M. H.
Wetherspoons have clearly identified a market segment lacking previous attention and that is the chav market.. Cheap drinks especially free refill coffee a real bargain as its decent coffee and a good selection of small brewers represented, reasonable food a bit basic but it's ok for the money but lots of dodgy looking unfit locals covered in tattoos..possible local chav meeting place and hook up joint as they seem to multiply after dusk!..However if you like weird, wonderful and wacky experiences with really strange people this could be the place for you!
A. P.
Classic spoons-no more need be said x
