Reviews of Toby Carvery Lincoln
P. P.
Food and drink was great. Service could be improved. Was left waiting around to order. Then waiting around to pay the bill. App wouldn't allow us to pay the correct amount.
Lack of information regarding the selection of vegan appropriate vegetables, up until we was told to collect the meal from the carvery and to choose veg ourselves (when menu states steamed veg done to order)
Other than this, was a typical Toby Carvery experience.
K. B.
It wasn’t particularly good yesterday. Normally much better. But yesterday the meats were near the end and quite dry. There was no mash. The veg was limited and had been under the lamps for a while so also dried. We presumed it was the time we went as last week we went at lunchtime and it was delicious

Had a lovely roast dinner here. Good variety of vegetables, lovely tender meat.
Wish that there was a Toby carvery closer to King's Lynn.
Downside to this one was that the mens toilets were not clean, my husband had to complain.
The staff were all very friendly.
c. j.
The food was excellent as usual for a Toby Carvery. The service second to none. Unfortunately bar had run out off John Smiths.
I can't say anything good about the male toilets which stunk. No need for that in this day and age. I should have known what it would be like as soon as I got on the stair case up to it. They were filthy and strewn with small pieces of rubbish. Obviously hadn't been swept that morning or properly cleaned for weeks.
A shame really as the food and staff that we encountered were excellent. Visited at 12.30 pm Tuesday 5th July 2022
A. L.
It was alright but for what you get was quite pricey. Plus, we ate here at 530pm. I was hungry again by 9pm. And the food I ate there wouldn't normally fill me if I had made the same portion size at home. Very strange. Won't be coming back again anytime soon, 1 being the price 2 being it filled me up for not even 4 hours
J. P.
very pleased with our visit, the staff were very friendly and helpful, the food and drink was mostly very good, apart from the two problems below it was a very good experience.
I did have trouble paying my bill when we wanted to leave, The "pay my bill" option on app wasn't working and few staff that where on were all busy , so had to wait a good 10 minutes to get someone attention, also I have been visiting Toby Carvery's for many years and for the first time ever I found the meat (beef) to be of poor quality this time, very fatty and chewy, cheap.
M. M.
Very polite staff, although your targeted sales of £9100 for the day did make the staff far to pushy at trying to up sell. This of course then makes the visit very un personal and your guests just feel like a number, it's not necessarily a good business tactic, the visit felt a little rushed, as soon as I refused a desert I received the bill, I understand a business needs to generate a profit but at what cost. Food was up to the usual standard, thank you.
B. S.
Carvery was very nice. Some of the veg pans were empty but we didn't arrive until around 8.30. Meat was lovely and service was great. Will be returning.
C. A.
We travelled to Lincoln from Nottingham just so we had an excuse to eat here. Great and friendly service with a plate full of goodies! By the time you've finished the mains you might have to force down the chocolate fudge cake (a must if you like chocolate and cake).
L. M.
Great service and good food. Just being picky but the Yorkshire puddings were on the small side and with a regular you only get one. They for me are the best part of a roast so a little disappointed but can’t fault the staff.
S. B.
At breaking point
It's obvious that this restaurant is struggling. Visiting at 6pm at they have run out if meat completely. Wait for over half an hour or go veggie.
While the place was obviously busy, running out of food is clearly a huge error.
I got the feeling that the staff are run off their feet and Toby need to invest in more staff.
Oh and I never understand why you are left waiting far too long with empty plates, so you get switched off from a dessert. The entire chain is bad at this. But thats the point.
Toby clearly struggling here.
E. C.
Will was absolutely amazing! You couldn't tell it was his first day at all. He was super friendly and super accomodating for the table next to us as well which was lovely to see. The food was delicious as always especially the Mac n cheese. Definitely great for with a cabery!
L. K.
Food good. Booked table using app. Then received a text asking me to download the NHS covid app that no longer exists. Then received a text asking to make our way to the host to book in to find that they couldn't find my booking on the system. Had to wait 15mins for a table. The refillable drinks was out of order(aparrently) and had to buy bottled drinks. Qued up for the carvery I was 5th in the que for another 10mins while they gone to find a turkey. Apart from that it was okay.
J. M.
Went for Sunday Carvery, couldn't fault it. Staff friendly and helpful, food was fantastic. My only criticism is there is no air conditioning, there are no windows that can be opened. The place was very busy and lots of people and it felt very stuffy which in turn made it slightly unbearable.
H. M.
Fast service. Brilliant carvery and So Tasty, great price too. Only £22 for two meals and two drinks.
This place always seems to get it right!
C. H.
Love Toby carvery! Great service, covid precautions are all in place and food is served to you after you tick what you want on the sheet. Staff are friendly and food quality was great on last visit with fresh veg and meat
A. G.
There was 8 of us, 4 adults and 4 children. We were quickly seated at the side of the restaurant. The waiter that served us, Maxton was fantastic, patient and friendly. The food was brilliant as usual but tonight's service was outstanding. Thank you Maxton we look forward to coming back again.
S. A.
Had Sunday lunch here and enjoyed it that much come back again today (10th oct ) Xander fitted us in and was very polite and helpful that we returned. All staff where very pleasant and helpful.
M. W.
The method of "protecting" the public from virus transmission here is just plain bizarre 4 people touching my plate within 2 minutes and then having to have a 5th carry my plate to my table quite why I cant be trusted to carry my own plate back from the carvery is beyond me?? Another thing I will never understand is when you order orange squash why would you put the water in first then not stur it after you put the cordial in? Otherwise the food was nice as were the staff.
T.
Fantastic as usual. Polite staff, place is spotless. Mrs had carvery and I has mac n cheese in a yorkie wrap.
Thansk to you all
E. B.
As a vegan I wasn't sure if I could really eat here but I got a delicious mushroom and ale gravy and the staff were very aware of dietary requirements even if the place is heavily focused on meat. There are a few vegan food options and one vegan dessert I believe. Hopefully we'll see more in the future!
R. F.
Food was delicious. Bit of a wait for some bits but it being so fresh is what makes it taste delicious so swings and roundabouts really. Maybe another toaster and more sauce. Whenever I've been the sauce is always empty
D. K.
Overall a good experience, more modern sorroundings compared to other Toby's. Had a little wait for carvery refill but it was between peek times so understandable and I was happy to wait. Food was tasty but best bit was the staff. Clear to see they had their A game on, even though there only 3 or 4 servers in on a Saturday. Abi was our server, she was great, chatty and down to earth, please give her an extra holiday day or something to show gratitude, as she's at uni and working, as we all know the struggles of work life balance.
t.
Been to many locations by far the best cooked all meats and sides perfect. Fully enjoyed all of it, but had to leave a bit of yorkshire pudding it was to big for me. Definitely go back.
S. W.
Had to wait 15 minutes for fresh roast meat as what was there was dried out. Saying that it was delicious. As for veg the options were poor and what there was was covered in either sugar or floury sauce. Need more plain fresh veg options.
A. D.
Very pleasant staff, the person carving though was causing the queue as he was very slow. Also you could improve by leveling out your carvery prices. Why such a difference between weekday and a Sunday?
D. T.
Food was brilliant, as always. But its in dire need of some Air Conditioning. I'd certainly feel alot more comfortable while eating my food if the venue had this.
M. J.
Nice roast potatoes, the other veg weren’t the best , mash was full of lumps .
Meat portion was fairly good but my daughters was very poor . We had a 50% off so it was good value , I think I would have been disappointed if I was paying full price .
S. M.
lol, looks like not only can i accidentally ring people from my pocket, I can now also leave 4 star reviews with no commentary. Like Craig Revel Horwood, 5 star reviews have to be perfect ;-) Seriously, we always have a good carvery at Toby Lincoln. The staff are helpful. The interior is clean. The beef dripping roast potatoes taste great. Value for money is good too.
O. H. S.
Very good service, nice staff and very kind and helpful. Top marks all around and atmosphere
t. f.
Good quality food and venue. The reason for the lower mark is the fact that there is very little choice of good quality craft beers and the beef was a little stringy with some veg being dried up.
P. P.
Had breakfast here . It was ok .They had no plumb tomatoes or fried bread . But they did have yorkshire pudding. 🤔 toilets were clean service ok nothing too special.
S. W.
Service was extremely slow
Waitress Summer was very nice and polite
Food was good
But came in for quick meal with the kids and taken 2 hrs
D. M.
Been a few times and this latest visit was a little disappointing. The food is always good and you get plenty of it, but there were delays getting in despite it being quieter than other visits and and the service wasn't great.
A. K.
Service was very very slow !!!!!! food not too bad had better at Toby carvery in other places wouldn't really go back in a rush
S. W.
Food was lovely, it was quiet so could have a conversation without having to shout, staff were very helpful
S. w.
I came in with my friends and I ordered a Beef Sandwich and it was incredible! Credit to the chef that made it, and the roast potatoes with it were exceptional!
f. w.
Very accomodating went with my 4 Yr old autistic grandaughter and 2 Yr old allergy grandaughter they were brilliant with both and even found a desert that looked like her older sisters allergy friendly so she did not feel left out definitely go there again
J. S.
Food is usually good especially for the price. The veg on offer isn't always consistent so it can be a little disappointing to find items like the potato/carrot gratin isnt available. It would be good if it was advertised what was on offer on a particular day. My main reason for 4 stars is the last few times we've been we've been stood waiting at the entrance for longer than we thought was acceptable for a staff member to take us to a table, despite it not being very busy. The staff just seemed oblivious to the fact anyone was waiting to be seated which was a bit frustrating. Apart from that, service is usually decent.
a. c.
Nice staff, clean including tables (and importantly, the toilets!) quiet, nice food, good quality produce.
S.
Been here many times before, good layout, nice friendly staff and good range of drinks at reasonable prices. The carvery is always good, neverhad a bad one to date and they give generous portions. Would recommend and will visit again soon!
R. D.
We came on Saturday morning at 11, we had no idea about the veteran meet, but we're told if we waited a few mins, there might be a free table....
4/5 mins later we get a table. Fantastic, working in the hospitality industry myself I understand how busy things get with big groups
10/10 looked understaffed but still managed to tend to everyone. Can't wait to go again 👌🏻
T. L.
The food is nice and the portions are still big even though you're waited on rather than self serve during Covid. Refillable drinks too which is handy. Overall a good experience for my first visit to Toby's!
C. M.
Staff welcoming and checking on how we are was just right. Food as usual in a Toby was excellent.
D. B.
The waiting staff refered to the allergy hand book - which is rubbish! The server knew what he was talking about, thankfully! Im Coeliac so not life threatening but still needs good staff training. They are good at Toby but need to be confidant!
d. l.
We always come her when we fancy a roast or even breakfast never have any problems always polite staff especially Maxton he always goes above and beyond and always is happy, and talks to the kids.
H. D.
Very nice food 👍👍 but pint was a bit flat but outher than that good place to eat and desert was fantastic
N. T.
Really nice place with lovely staff. The carvery was delicious. Well worth a visit.
J. D.
Tasty as always. Potatos not crispy this time and no crackling again but still loved it. Nice modern venue too.
K. P.
Only ever been to the Toby Carvery twice. This lunch was a treat from our son, so I was really looking forward to it. The food was lovely, plenty of choice with the vegetables, meats cooked perfectly, roast potatoes beautiful and gravy was nice and thick. Price was very good and the staff were very pleasant. However, just two issues I found with the eatery, there were no windows open or fans and it was a bit too hot in there, but the food was not hot enough. I like it the temperature of lava so it stays hot to the end of the meal, which unfortunately didn't happen !! I would definitely go again tho, just hope the food will be hotter next time.
H. B.
Hot food, good selection of vegetables, tasted amazing, plenty of seating, good drinks selection, still reasonably priced. Staff were also very friendly.
N. A.
First time I have been in for breakfast will definitely be coming back friendly staff good food
I. C.
Really nice example of a Toby Carvery, I’m not from round here but the place, food and staff were fantastic!
J. T.
It was OK just vedg tastes old as if it had been out for a few hours. Not the best.
j. t.
The service of the staff and the friendliness. Also our server sander was very attentive and polite.
T. C.
Really welcoming staff who were very helpful. The food was lovely and carvery was being restocked regularly. We went just before they are having a refurb but actually was already one of the better looking Toby's inside. Refillable drinks had a huge selection of choice too! We would recommend.
A. G.
Went to Lincoln for the Xmas Market saw the Toby on the way in and so glad I booked a time slot to go that afternoon. The staff was fantastic front of house and back of house, food was brilliant for the price, building was stunning very well decorated and great use of the available space. Easy access to the site very clean very well looked after. Only downside is you have to pay to park in the nearby carparks because there is not parking available on site apart from that it's a perfect place
G. C.
Excellent staff, good food. Excellent price. Very satisfied
D. B.
Nice food at a good price and the carvery is fantastic. I'm rating it as 4 stars due to staff availability. The chef appeared to be seating people, serving people and stocking the carvery so service was slow.
All in all a good meal out.
A. C.
Decent quality food for the price. Really helpful and friendly staff who excel at customer service and go above and beyond. Really recommended.
A.
I have had several breakfasts here now at weekends as it sustains you all day.
Although cheap and cheerful there are a couple of things that could be added to the servery choices that would make breakfast more interesting ie black pudding and fried bread.
S. C.
Went here for breakfast.
Had to ask for clean plates as the last 10 hadn't been washed very well.
There was quite a queue at the counter as people were waiting for eggs.
When it came to my turn there were none left.
It was reasonably busy and the chef looked a bit flustered.
C. T.
Service was great. Meal okay. Disappointed with the cabbage, hard and inedible
L. C.
I was betrayed, bamboozled into thinking horseradish was bread sauce, ruined my plate but I still ate it so
S. T.
Bloke who served myself and my friend, was a laugh. Served us with a friendly smile, and was professional. Made my friend and myself laugh out loud. Would go back defo when back in lincoln.
s. B.
Nice quality food. Meat was succulent and worth every penny
W. W.
Really do enjoy coming here, and having my yorkie wrap x I be back soon x
C. K.
Came in today (29/1/22) with a booking of 10, this included 4 children and a dairy intolerance.
Greeted by a lovely young lady who sat us down, checked the table was okay and took our drinks. One child had a lot of questions about being allowed to go back up and what they could have, but was thorough and spoke to him really well.
Went to get food and the chef (sam) was so good we asked for his named as felt he needed the recognition of a good staff member.
The kids were very clear they wanted to order their own food and he was very good with letting them and giving them the acknowledgement for good manners and their choices on yorkshire puddings, which is way beyond his job, but made their experience great.
He was really good at going through the milk allergy and what I could and couldn't have, he even went out his way to get some none cheese cauliflour cheese to give me an extra option.
The table behind us were HORRIFIC to a manager over an issue that was not even a toby carvery issue, but she handled it so well and with great confidence.
All the staff were friendly and couldn't do enough for us!
T. B. S. E.
Amazing value for money with great quality food, the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Only slight annoyance is them immediately asking for your order as soon as you get seated rather than letting you settle.
A. L.
The food was good and the staff were friendly and helpful.. The place was way too hot for me though, I found it uncomfortable while eating... Price wise it's okay and there are cheaper alternatives but you get your money's worth.
J. C.
Hi, it was our first ever time at Toby Carvery for Breakfast, the all you can eat was good value but our only faults were that the hash browns and bacon were both rock hard and dry and there was no fried eggs. Could of done with more hot drinks options. Loved the sausages, the cheese potatoes and the toast and the staff were lovely and friendly andI'm Not complaining it was definitely worth 4 Star but you wanted to know why it wasn't 5 star
E.
No table without reservation but staff were lovely
m. c.
Fantastic staff lovely food great atmosphere all the staff extremely hot on alagen awareness
A. W.
You cannot beat Toby's meat. Delicious, great service.
H. L.
Lovely staff, helpful and polite, service was great
Food (carvery) was really good couldn’t fault it tbh, there was other food choices too, we didn’t have pudding but there was a range to choose from
Definitely recommend
L. S.
Great place, awesome food. Only quibble is the crackling was rock hard on my last visit. Soaked it in gravy and left it till the end of my meal, was still rock hard so I had to leave it on my plate. Gutted as it's one of my favourite things too. Never mind though still enjoyed my carvery
K. T.
Just okay! Food's obviously out for a while and you don't seem to get as much meat as you used to! App didn't work to pay and more expensive than a pub carvery. But was okay!
D. B.
The food was amazing and staff were lovely.
J. H.
Stopped for a take away en route home. Very friendly and helpful staff. Food was a bit disappointing, rather bland and dry, gravy very watery. Roast potatoes and pork crackling was good though.
N. Y.
I visited this carvery for the first time post-pandemic, and was pleasantly surprised that customers were once again able to serve themselves at the carvery.
I arrived on a Friday evening with no booking, so was happy that we were able to fit in. Only around 7 other tables were occupied, but the server still had to check quite extensively if they had room for us, so perhaps they were short-staffed.
Our drinks bill was a bit more expensive than planned - I ordered a soda and blackcurrant, which is normally fairly cheap, but the soda machine was apparently out of order so we had only bottled drinks to choose from. On the recommendation of the server, we had alcohol-free fruit ciders, which were very nice but came in at £4.30 each which I consider a lot. However, the whole bill was just over £20 for two people so on the whole it was reasonably good value.
The carvery was quiet so there was no waiting. There were some new carvery options that I hadn't seen before - mac and cheese, dauphinoise vegetables, and both vegetarian and beef dripping roast potatoes. The gammon was perfect, quite salty, and welll-cooked.
Normally I would recommend booking this restaurant - I've turned up with no booking in the past before only to be turned away, despite the restaurant being almost empty, but on some occasions I have also been lucky and managed to get in.
Generally a good option if you are in the area and fancy a carvery!
M. B.
Staff helpful as always, food tasty but a little bit dry. Plenty of choice and piping hot. Drinks limited due to gas running out
L. U.
So disappointed with our experience today. It was so so hot and was so uncomfortable to sit inside, but on moving outside we discovered a wasps nest was very near so we had to move back inside. I stood in the queue for the carvery for at least 30mins, which I don't know if that's pretty standard, but if I manage not to get covid after being stood in such a confined space with so many people for so long, I will consider myself immune. They had also ran out of vegan options which was hugely disappointing as the online menu had so many options I was looking forward to having at least some choice with. The food was OK but it was so hot we just ate and left as quickly as possible. Not a good experience at all, I completely understand that weather and nature are completely beyond anoyones control but we would be very picky about coming out of peak time if we were to try again. That said, staff were very polite, helpful and apologetic for the conditions so we were very grateful for that. It can't have been easy for them to work in it either.
C. H.
Lovely carvery, and made great use of the refillable drinks. Staff were friendly and helpful. However one snotty family kept making fun of my disabled friend because he laughs like Jimmy Carr. This hurt his feelings and made him lose his appetite, so it took a long time for him to finally finish his meal which was annoying because we needed to go home before he starts getting cranky.
r. t.
Brilliant !!! Big portions and tasted fantastic , already booked to go again
m. c.
Couldn't of asked for a better experience. From walking through the doors to leaving, we both felt so welcomed, cared for and well fed.
Hostess welcomed us and walked is to our table, took time to talk and explain how the experience is and what to do to keep everything efficient and pleasant.
Bar and waiting staff happy to talk us through the options and make sure we where happy with what we got. Kitchen staff again, talked us through our options and catered for our wants at the time. Happy to make our meal just right.
We left with a full belly of good food and a smile, left already wanting more and looking forward to our next visit and the visit after that too.
Wishing all the staff the best over these hard times and hoping you all have a warm Christmas time.
G. D.
Good meal however.
Veg on girlfriends plate was cold
A. M. (.
Visiting our son in Lincoln we had a very nice family meal for four on Thursday evening, we all choose the cavery option. Meat joint choices were nicely cooked as were all the vegetables. Service was very good, waiting staff and young lady whom I presume was the duty manager, were very attentive without being intrusive which made for a relaxed and enjoyable meal. Would definitely look to rebook when we next visit Lincoln, perhaps try the breakfast. Could not fault the cleanliness and good to see here at Toby still have their COVID measures in place. Sadly some restaurants have got lazy in keeping theirs.
Would be very happy to recommend eating here.
R. C.
We had a great time & a great meal for father's day. The staff were working really hard but still nothing was too much trouble. The food was up to the usual Toby Carvery standards & we were mqd welcome by the friendly staff. They were properly displaying & enforcing covid measures & we felt quite at ease
M. T.
Thanks to all the staff and chefs for a lovely Xmas lunch provided for the Lincoln Armed forces breakfast club. Your attention to detail and patience with our older members is appreciated and we look forward to our next breakfast club meeting in 2022. A merry Xmas and new year to all.
E. C.
Have missed going to this place. So happy it is back open then tables are always cleaned as other customers leave. Drinks are brought to table when up getting food so that distance is kept. Very nice staff very very helpful indeed.
G. K.
Great place to eat, not Michelin quality but neither is the price.
Sometimes veg can have spent to long under the heat lights and this is my only niggle, best eat early to get best quality.
D.
You know what you're getting with a Toby Carvery and this one is no exception when it came to the food. However, the service was absolutely fantastic. Everyone was really helpful, especially Michelle, the Duty manager on the day we went. Michelle was brilliant, extremely friendly and really set the tone for our stay in Lincoln.
T. S.
Well well well this was the best carvery I have had in ages I came from Boston with my husband and son bearing In mind my son is a very very fussy / picky eater 🙄 he had a full plate full of the Roast Turkey and veg he DEMOLISHED the lot 😳 which is a massive achievement for him at 13 years old !!! So now we're going back before he returns to school to have another one 😃. Great service great times and great food many thanks from The Smalley Family 😋😋😋😋
D. C.
Booked online for breakfast but on arrival was told we had only 10 minutes left of breakfast. Seems we were left with the food that had been sat there for quite some time. The hash browns were solid and inedible and the rest had just been sat too long. Might be worth switching off bookings a bit earlier as would've given it a miss if I'd known how bad it would be.
On the other hand, never had a bad carvery from there.
D. A.
I took my now girlfriend there .Great staff and great food.nothing was a problem for the staff .we will be going again.
P. G.
It was a bit warm in the restaurant. Food is delicious. Free refill drink fountain.
H. W.
Amazing visit! Love it here! The team are so so friendly! Thank you 💜
L. R.
Was served by Will today , lovely and friendly , and most helpful , thanks Will 😊
E. A.
Service and food was really good, would definitely recomend
E.
Have ordered quite a few times now over the months via delievery for my family. Roast dinners are nice/ok for a buffet. Obviously not home cooking so a little bland. Packaged well. Good portions too but please do not put really unedible burnt black roast potatoes in there as it's a waste of my money and they obviously have to go in the bin. Somethings not right if they're that burnt & black like that & it needs looking into. Thank you though. Would order again.
Edit. Have ordered a few times since and haven't had black burnt roast potatoes anymore 🙂
A. C.
It’s okay. The food is average, nothing amazing. It often takes a long time to be served by the staff, especially when you want to pay the bill..!
M. F.
I initially gave this three stars and no written review and got a response from Toby saying they were sorry I was disappointed. A Toby carvery is what it is and 3 stars is a compliment! Nothing wrong here. Food and service were good but Toby, you are never going to get Michelin stars 🤩
S. P.
Staff friendly and polite and helpful good food
C. B.
Food good. Sizes good. Price good. No more can be said
A. H.
If you want a good quality roast as a decent price, this is the place!
S. B.
Outstanding waiter and duty manager michelle this was the first time both our autistic children had gone for a sit down meal with my wife and kids in over two years food was excellent cavery team amazing Toby has a winning team there and a leading light in how to deal with young people who are wired different to many including me so well done
J. R.
It's a toby carvery, very generic, welcome on a cold rainy night.
m. h.
Food was lovely staff were friendly and accommodating. Air con broken so stifling hot in the building so was uncomfortable at times
U.
The wait staff were slow and half the vegetarian and vegan options weren't available. However the decor was nice and the food was fantastic. Price was fantastic at only £7.29 for their carvery which comes with unlimited vegies and a good amount of meat. Very close to the high street and inside the St.Marks centre so location is quite ideal too. Would be a 4 to 5 if service was a tad faster. Overall I'd recommend this place to a friend.
A. P.
Not bad but all the meat was overcooked
Staff very good and helpful
Toilet disgusting

Was a great meal for four of us. The staff was amazing and helpful. Will come again.👍
G. B.
Really good food good price nice helpful staff
M. A.
Good carvery. Staff are good. Place was clean and had tasty food.
P. A.
Food was great but lamb wasn't enough.
R. G.
Me and my friend had a lovely time and a fantastic meal we both loved it.
S. C.
Good location - parking free after 6pm or £1.30 for an hour which isn't rushed as food is ready immediately.
Manager is a good laugh, remembers you if you're a regular (even where you like to sit, what you spoke about last time and what you like for dessert!).
Staff are friendly and you can tell it's a well run place as it's not all new staff every time you go in...
Food has always been really good apart from one time when replenishing veg/stuffing etc had gotten out of kilter - it happens. Our next meal was discounted.
Genuinely nice place to eat and price is great.
W.
Great place for family dinner, staff were incredibly friendly and gracious with menu changes (small children) and small issues with meals. As said elsewhere, the venue can be quite warm inside but we were able to move outside for a while to cool down. Menu has a wide selection of starters, desserts, drinks and vegetarian/vegan options which were very appreciated by our party. Carvery selection is brilliant and all very well prepared, I enjoyed all parts of my meal!
B. E.
One of the best places to go out for a meal.staff so friendly and helpful.plenty of meat put on to your plate.yorkshire puddings are really nice and all the vegetables you can eat
D.
Nice place to eat but very hot inside (as other reviewers mention).
If you're the sort of person that suffers from hot flushes and cannot stand warm temperatures then choose somewhere else. There was no air con on or any windows open when we went yesterday (it was a warm sunny day). My poor wife had to suffer throughout the meal with sweat running down her face.
On a positive note the food was very nice with lots of choice (especially veg) and the cost of the carvery was only about £10 each including a refillable soft drink.
Please Toby look into this!
A. W.
Amazing food, great waiters and didn't wait long at all. Bookings can be made quickly. Everything was great.
M. M.
The food was great but the service and the queue for food let it down. The poor staff did their best but looked exhausted.
A. D.
My husband and I find it extremely stressful when finding places to eat in Lincoln as my husband is gluten intolerant . He was advised by the staff who helped him choose his meal.
The staff were very friendly and helpful I would definitely recommend toby Carvery to other people who have the same difficulty.
M. H.
As usual it delivers exactly what it says, decent carvery at a cheap price
G. H.
Carvery roast. Fantastic meat n veg. Gravy awesome
S. T.
It's Toby Carvery so you ain't expecting hote cuisine. Last visit was great to be far. Hit the carvery just as started so was all fresh and pretty tasty. Good value but Ramsay won't be quaking in his boots just yet.
J. D.
Food excellent. Staff very friendly and helpful. A good idea to book as they are a popular restaurant and were busy.
e. c.
No air conditioning became very hot. (it was a hot day)
R. B.
Takeaway is nice but eating in is nothing special.
e. d.
Very relaxing, great company, wonderful food & very clean
S. C.
Delicious food but beef was a bit fatty.
A. H.
What a great place, staff was so frienfly and helpful. Michelle the lady who greeted us explained everything and made us feel really welcome. Katriona our waitress was helpful. The next time we are in Lincoln I am sure we will be going back again
K. S.
Very different to the normal Toby Carvery's l have been to.
L. L.
Certainly not the best Toby I've been to. The brussels were definitely frozen and I really do not like the texture. Everything else was pretty good and the service was adequate.
The young lad serving at the carvery was very nice and offered us two bowls for the children's meals as they weren't very hungry so just had little bits from our plates, however when we came to pay, the cashier wanted to charge us and although she didn't once we explained, her face made it obvious she wasn't happy about this and she was visibly put out.
I don't believe in having more than you need or want and witnessed many people having huge plates full and going back for more. Good on you if you eat it but my children would not, and did not eat anywhere near a portion.
Nice location, decent sized premises and ok service.
A. F.
The food was really nice although there was little choice on the carvery (especially for a place with carvery in the name) and the system is rather confusing because a waiter came over and asked us what we would like to drink and never returned to ask is what wed like to order for food. We eventually went up to the bar to ask what we had to do and they told us just to go up to the carvery line and we'd be served which confused us further because we had not paid for them not put them on a tab and we were given no paper slip like most carvery places would give. Other than the confusion of ordering the meal was nice and we finished off with some desserts which were really good.
M. C.
Excellent Sunday lunch, good variety of meats and vegetables all very well cooked, most enjoyable, will definitely go again.
F. I. g.
Dont know why but beer salt and pepper mixed in with vanilla flavoured pepsi max with a slice of (poulet) french for chicken cuz im cultural tastes low key scrumptious
A. M. D.
A very lovely lunch living up to its usual high standard. Only let down was the dirty toilets. This needs regular cleaning and checking. Also a down side is the spiral staircase to upstairs loos. Service was very good and the chef and waiter were very engaging. Just clean the loos basins and floors !!!
w. f.
Lovely breakfast well worth the money
A. J. K.
Ten of us dine in all carvery very good service
K. N.
We have been here before but went for my sons birthday. The staff are always great but this time we had to wait quite a long time for the server to refill the dishes as they were empty which meant my son, who is disabled had to stand for quite a while.
Other than that it's always good here
L. T.
Good breakfast. All you can eat. Old music. Coffee is a Bit rough.
L. W. (.
We've visited regularly since this restaurant opened and we have never once had a bad meal. I would give 5 stars but the meat portions vary hugely and it always takes forever to get a kids plate and spoon. Otherwise it's great and perfect for taking kids to.
D. R.
Not been in years but i will definitely be going back soon . food was good and staff were brilliant.
P. D. L.
Staff were friendly and the quality of the food was excellent.
R. B.
Good, friendly and fast service.
Excellent carvery, will definitely call again
T.
Lovely food good for family meals or a couples date
J.
Went for breakfast today. The staff were very friendly and the food was really good. Excellent start to the day.
D. W.
Good old Toby! A little shy with the meat but a nice experience nonetheless.
p. w.
Absolutely fabulous to go back to a carvery.
Great service under the restrictions.
Food was fabulous too. Many thanks will be back real soon
C. S.
Use to go here a lot more than I do now, price rising with no solid different to whats ordered. Some of the food on the carvery sometimes even look dry and been there for a while. Also you have to almost always flag down staff to pay and can be waiting ages to get a glass for the refillable drink.
On the good sides though staff are mostly friendly, depending on the carver you can get plenty of meat or barly any, the good looking veg, meat and gravy all taste ok to good but overall can be just a meh experience so make sure you knoe what your doing
L. D.
I love the food at Toby all of the courses! I would give a 5 star rating but my one problem is with the breakfast you don't have hash browns and for me this is a vital part of breakfast! I do really hope they bring them in soon! But other than that I can't fault any part of my food quality or the overall experience I have whenever I go to Toby! Just outstanding!
T. C.
Building is architecturally great and makes the place look classy. Inside reflects the outside and feels like a nice place to eat. Depending on your time of visit the food is consistently good however on some quieter times the food can be stood for long periods of time without change which can make the food less enjoyable. This place can be quite busy during early evening and if you want to eat here on a Sunday book in advance. Breakfast is good and all meal times have a wide selection of food. Staff just ok for me service is slow because they often don't have enough staff leaving messy tables and confusing drink ordering system. Problems aside it's worth a visit.
G. C.
average at best. meat was ok, veg cold tho, service of the staff was good.
B. A.
Good place to meet friends for lunch. Great food - bargain offers/vouchers on O2 phone. DO NOT OVERLOAD your plate, or danger of falling asleep at your table! You certainly feel like a good lie-down afterwards. Wide & inviting Menu & choice of 'afters'. Riverside central location. Go Early as very popular. 'Muzak' a bit loud sometimes if you want a good natter - but they reduce on request. Staff very attentive & welcoming.
I. -.
Visited here 4 times and love it! As youd expect a very clear and tasty Carvery (other items other than a carvery available) can get super busy which is a sign, but also has very friendly staff too who wait on you :) the only thing we did not like is the last two times visiting the food has been luke warm rather than the standard warmth, also messy vegetable section other than that it's worth going to :)
J. P.
Very efficient and friendly. Good value for money.
s. e.
Refurbished recently, very welcoming, excellent service along with lovely tasting food
l. c.
Again another very good visit. The staff were brilliant and very attentive. Made sure all needs were met. Had two carvery meals and a plate for two years old. Consistently good food.
Really enjoyable visit
R. H.
Friendly staff delicious selection of meats clean and welcoming environment . We visited on a Sunday evening of a bank holiday weekend. The place was just about empty and the full carvery menu was available I had the Gamon and the Beef I was given a good amount of both meats. The Beef was delicious lovely and tender not tough at all. The Gamon was tasty too. All in all a great experience. And to top it off my Brother was paying so it made it taste even better. Why are the toilets always upstairs in Toby carveries?
S. D.
Food OK, dreadful server, overcharged
F. W.
Fantastic place, perfect for Sunday roast. The food was delicious, the service was attentive and friendly, and the atmosphere was great! A real buzz, the restaurant was full, and there were lots of happy families at all stages enjoying themselves. Definitely recommend thisrestaurant if you feel like a hearty meal for a reasonable price, just be sure to book in advance!
E.
All you can eat breakfast is cheap at the price as long as you like a full English and there's no need to book. The carvery itself has a good range of seasonal veg,the portion of meat depends on who is carving but is generally ok the staff are friendly and helpful. It is advisable to book though at peak times we have never had anything to complain about on our visits
S. P.
Lovely place, nice decor! Very friendly staff! Beautiful food, cooked lovely! Had a lovely time! 😊😊
M. A.
Love this place! Friendly staff, so quick to be seated and served and even the long queues on a Saturday morning (for breakfast) go down very quickly. Breakfast is all you can eat and the Yorkshire puddings with gravy, to start, are amazing.
M. C.
The parking here is expensive, and awkward for physical card payment. Not Toby Carverys fault, but I do feel a business like this would be better suited to an area on the edge of the city.
The price for Breakfast was very reasonable for an all you can eat buffet, and bottomless filter coffee is a winner for me in the mornings, but the quality is dictated by price, which is low.
Definitely worth it for the price, but I would gladly pay more for an improved standard of produce.
e. a.
1st ( but not the last ) visit ...staff very professional and friendly ...food hot and fresh ...lovely relaxing atmosphere...Close to main shopping areas
D. H.
It's ok, but even when they weren't very busy they got both our drinks wrong. My husband ordered a pint of bitter and got a pint of fizzy water and I ordered an apple and mango J2O and got an orange and passion fruit!!! Very careless and not focusing on customer satisfaction.
J. D.
Lovely meal, friendly staff
J. M.
When we arrived, we waited for about 12 minutes for fresh food to be brought out. The waitor clearly needed to go home because he couldn't be bothered. The second waitor was very helpful. By the time we sat down with our food it was room temperature. My friends explained that they had brought me to have a nice British meal. The second waitor was the manager. He pulled out a chair and wanted to hear what my friends had to say, then offered to heat up their food or they would be allowed to get a fresh plate. They agreed to have him heat up their food. He asked if I wanted my food heated, but because I was probably not going to be allowed into the kitchen to see exactly what was happening, I said no. He took my meal off the price. Manager was nice, but if this happened where I'm from, it would have been very different.
D. B.
Great to be back here.excellent and very friendly staff.meal was loverly and fresh. This place is spotless.looking forward to eating there again.
K. H.
I went there last weekend and was really put off eating there because it was too hot and wouldn't have been comfortable to eat. This place needs air conditioning badly. I feel really sorry for the staff who have to put up with this. On a positive note it was clean, the staff were attentive and friendly.
W. S.
Great value , excellent food, very highly recommended
j. a.
Great meal a d good value for money
p. s.
They had no Pork (sat) took a long time for the vegetarian choices that a few of our number wanted and one of the veg main course was not available and another only had two portions.
Waitress excellent, good prices. Will go again.
d. m.
top class for breakfast i visit here about 3 times a week .as its better than burning my own !!! the staff are very helpful and always nice and are happy to have a chat . the food is top class, its all you can eat and drink .but sometimes the bacon is abit under cooked as i like it crispy theres always a chef about so now i ask the chef if they can crisp it up for me and they are very happy to help and nothing is to much trouble thanks toby carvery staff for a great service
J. J.
Go midweek for the cheaper prices! Great for a hearty comfort food roast. Very good value for money and really friendly, attentive staff. You can also get pigs in blankets year-round, which instantly gets my respect.
J. P.
Stuffing and mash had evidently been out a long time due to dryness and the bowls were half full. Meat wasn't too bad. Was served quickly which is always a plus.
A. B.
Breakfast is good and a fair price
C. W.
Been to much better Tobys.
Service was very poor. People waited 20 minutes as they had run out of gravy, 10 minute wait for mint sauce.
Some veg dishes burnt.
We went on a Saturday so not their busiest time.
J. F.
Superb meal at a very good price, and the main meal with a refillable drink was just over ten pounds. Parking is not fee but close by. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the surroundings were pleasant. Worth a visit sometime
M.
I'll be back.... And it was definitely glad to be back in a Toby after 18 months, due to CVD19. Food was great, service was polite, friendly and efficient.
S. B.
Amazing food however the restaurant was very warm, maybe a door could have been opened for better airflow
G. S.
I use this place for its breakfasts, all you can eat and drink for 7 quid is simply put too good to refuse, the staff are polite and friendly and the restaurant is always clean and tidy. The food itself is of a reasonable standard and for the price very good value, it can get busy on weekends and short delays on certain items can be an issue but generally these are few and dealt with quickly. I don't know what the day/night service is like but for breakfasts I highly recommend this place.
b. s.
It was fantastic there was plenty of meat choices
( pork, lamb, turkey, gammon, beef )
the vegetables were brilliant and all crunchy and prepared properly
The cheese dishes were brilliant and not dried out
I enjoyed this carvery so much I went back up 4 times for vegetables. I Highly rate and this is the best Toby Carvery I've visited
P. d. M.
In my travels around the country supporting Bristol Rovers it's rare to find a Toby Carvery close to the centre of a town or city - but this one is! If more were, I'd eat in them more often as the food is usually good and the price reasonable. On this occasion I was told that there was a 20 minute wait but I was actually called to my table in about 5 minutes.
T. M.
Wasn't too busy when we so got served quite quickly. Might be worth booking next time. Food delicious. Friendly service. Wherever you go in Lincoln you pay for parking and it's always busy. But I like it.
A. R.
Always get a good breakfast here. All help yourselves so as much as you like. Do your own toast again as much as you like. If you pay for a re-fill mug also as many hot drinks as you like. Well worth a visit.
C. G.
Cannot fault it food lovely with a good selection and not too busy
B. B.
Great staff and scrumptious food, very clean which is important these days, I will definitely be back
D. G.
Visited for a Sunday lunch and wasn't disappointed friendly staff and lovely food. Definitely visiting again soon
g. w.
Before we went we checked the website to see how much it was it was 6.95 and the drinks was 2 pound odd for a refill The food was good the waiter that took me and my friends to the table was lovely but once it came to paying it came too 33 pound odd for 3 of us so we worked it out and the price incorrect so we questioned it and turns out the 20 percent tax wasn't included in the price and on the website it never said plus tax so we assumed the tax was included in the price but it is not we spoke to a different waiter and the manager and the waiter was getting quite annoyed with us and the manager said I assure you yours not Paying anymore my response was well we kind of are it states 6.95 on your website it doesn't state plus tax which it should and he said we have never had this complaint my response was we are not. Complaining we are questioning it and saying you should state it on your website he repsonse wasn't great long story short he was rude not helpful and so was the second waiter
J. B.
Food was amazing, staff were friendly would definitely be coming back again
S. B.
So we decided to take our kids with us to the restaurant today. Our 9yr old has additional needs and everyone of the team we meet went above and beyond to make our sons dining experience straightforward. From getting him just a plain Yorkshire pudding and an additional very plain ice cream. Thank you all so much.
S. B.
Great service. Wonderful food - the Yorkshire pudding best ever and very wheelchair accessible.
H. D.
Its a Toby carvery the staff make it worth a visit they are very efficient and friendly. Food great.
S. P.
Words fail me absolutely fantastic , first time of going and the food was outstanding, piping hot and plenty of choice, the staff were all friendly and made us feel like we were the only people they were serving even though it was fully booked. Thank you once again
N. N.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Food excellent and great choice. Adhered to COVID-19 regulations and made us feel welcome.
A. F.
Food excellent as always but for the second Sunday in a row no apple sauce and I do like apple sauce with a roast dinner.
T. H.
Yummy food! Great carvery so you can just have your favourite. Clean and spacious. Well priced. Helpful and friendly staff.
D. S.
Went for a Christmas dinner with friends. Just 2 little complaints. They ran out of plates & we had a 15 min wait in the queue & the sprouts were frozen not fresh, otherwise very good.
C. M.
Brilliant breakfast great value at just under a fiver for unlimited food. Staff lovely
R. J.
Good food, good service, good price. Can't complain really!
Only small thing is, as it's good a lot of other people like to go so make sure you book or are prepared to wait. They can get busy!
L. S.
Very nice lunch. Great variety of food. Decent price. Staff very good, efficient n friendly. Only down side, it was very hot n needs some fans in there .
J. S.
Every time I visit the service is always excellent and it is always a very nice roast dinner. The gammon is great and the turkey is very nice. The best place to go for a classic carvery .
L. R.
Friendly staff! I always fill my plate too much so leave absolutely stuffed! Delicious gravy! Desserts look amazing but I never make it to dessert!
M. Z. M.
Lovely roast. I got stuffed😂
G. F.
Great carvery, love the York iestyn and roasties
L. T.
Overall food is average you get what you pay for. Waiting staff are good and polite. The one big disappointment was the young lad calving was miserable and needs some serious lesson in the art of calving as he is absolutely terrible at it.
A. S.
Great hearty food. Can never fault the meats and plenty of veg to choose from. Usually quieter mid afternoon in the week. Would recommend weekdays as both quieter and cheaper than weekends.
G. T.
Brilliant.
Good food. Staff excellent. Very friendly and helpful.
K. F.
Food was nice. Staff were friendly but not at all impressed with general cleanliness. Floors needed sweeping, greasy paintwork, grubby menu cards and dusty surfaces. Sack the cleaner?
B. C.
Come here offer for breakfast, staff has always been friendly, food has been great also. I'd recommend to come before 10am as it can get busy later on, which means you might need to wait a little for the fresh batch of food to be made.
T. S.
Good food, clean toilets, we was waiting along time in the que to get our food
E. c.
No ac so hot in there food was spot on
S. B.
the place smells like Sunday dinner great service it has a bar over all a very pleasant experience
S. W.
£4.99 breakfast, amazing. Well cooked, well presented and delicious.
C. L.
Sorry my last post was a mistake, I accidently pressed the wrong button when writing my review. I always have a fantastic meal here. Good staff and lovely food at a reasonable price. Me and my daughter always dine here when I visit her at uni, we don't go anywhere else.
D. R.
Last 2 times I've been the meat hasn't been the best, the gravy was very lumpy and nowhere near as hot as it should be.
d. s.
Nice meat good vegetables selection not as hot as I like but that's a typical Toby problem but overall good value and nice staff
H. h.
Nice and clean friendly staff Bit slow carving the meat having to weigh it for some reason .no complaints about any thing else
C. H.
Good Quality food , good value, good price. I always visit Tobys when I visit Lincoln Christmas Market and 100% happy .
t. s.
It was exceptionally busy, we were told at the outset there would be an hour wait for a table but the girls on the desk managed the situation very well, with courteousy and humour. It was well worth waiting for as the food, as always, was delicious.
M. N.
Very modern and efficient toby. Visiting Lincoln for weekend and tried our luck sat lunch time. Got a seat in 5 mins and served quickly. Meat et all was fine as expected.
If your in the area and need traditional nosh. Give it a try.
J. E.
Veterans breakfast club. Networking, Lincoln City foundation veterans club.
K. D.
Nice experience considering covid! They plated up for you and piled it on! If you want more gravy or veg you just need to ask. Food was lovely.
O. I.
Nice experience, good food and spacious eatery. Initial delay as someone forgot my starter but apologised profusely when aware. Loved automated drink refills
D. P.
Good food & friendly staff
R. E.
We came on a Sunday not realising it is just one price one size, we leftb because a guest in our party would rather have a small portion and not have to pay up close to a tenner for it. I would come back on weekdays because the price is more reasonable 6.49£ so we will try again another time x
C. M.
Best carvery ever!
L. J.
Food and service was great. Michelle was lovely, I would recommend this restaurant to all my friends. Thank you
A. C.
Delicious, friendly staff, good portion sizes
J. H.
Great staff here, very friendly and accommodating. Food is great too.
R. D.
Enjoy eating here although sometimes, depending on how busy they get, the food might not be as hot as it should..generally okay,at least there is a varied amount of choice with vegetables on its 'help yourself basis'..worth a try
D. E.
Very good food as always , better than Doncaster last week whilst we was shopping . Got to be careful with a regular customer on Saturdays who comes in early , although his seat is cleaned after he leaves , the smell is terrible and lingers after he has left . And it can be thought that the smell is from Toby itself . Pity but because of food still 5 stars . Even if you have to hold your nose !
A. C.
Not totally comfortable
Went for a 6.30 meal. Too strict at first with the covid restrictions but calmed down later when I thought they were being too fussy
C. F.
What can I say omg the best carvery I have had in a long time BEAUTIFUL you should try it
A. P.
Open and accessible with friendly staff and reasonable food for the price. Supportive of the veterans community and other social groups. Great place to meet up and chill for a couple of hours with a buffet available.
K. N.
Staff very friendly and fast service. Food was excellent. The roast beef was just so tender.
L. A.
Good selection of food. Staff friendly.
A. J. *. S.
Staff Were Such A Fantastic Bunch, Very Upbeat & Extremely Keen To Make You Feel At Home...!!
It’s Not Mine & My Partners Closest One... As We Were On Holiday But The Exceptional Welcome We Got Sure Made Us Feel As Though It Could Be Our Local..!!
M. S.
Nice carvery nice service in these Covid times .they all handled it very well especially the lady at the front off house booking everybody in welldone to all thanks
B. S.
Great service & foods. Trying new combinations each time with veg & meats!! Always kept clean & presentable, lovely staff members too
M. H.
Ordered a normal carvery, jesus christ, it could have fed the 5000! Pleased I saved the £1.99 and didn't go large, I fought and won, couldn't move after though,
s.
The manageress at the Lincoln restaurant, Michelle?
Is a credit to your company, very attentive and cannot do enough to make her customers feel welcome
J. W.
Good food , need air conditioning in there though far to hot, felt very uncomfortable .
p. l.
We Only had tea and coffee
H. H.
Food very tasty but soon went cool
S. B.
Lovely staff very helpful and friendly always smiling
H. H.
Excellent food!!! Friendly staff, the all you can eat breakfasts and carvery are delicious, if you work in the public sector you get 10% off the bill (just take your id badge) which is brilliant, i would definitely recommend Lincoln Toby carvery.
M. J.
Good food. Really filled the plate. Super value for money. Friendly staff. We were all stuffed!
D. R.
Great price and not bad food either. You pay for what you get although bread was hard and took them 10 minuites to change it. So over all not a bad experience.
G. N.
Was a while ago before this pandemic i have no faults at all food was fantastic friendly staff only thing now you need to open back up quick time as I'm not from lincoln I'm visiting for the second time round was gutted your still closed
L. a. E. “. W.
Always quicker to go for their roasts. Plenty of meat choice and good selection of veg. Too full, mostly,:to try their delicious icecream. Keep smiling
A. J.
Food wasnt grate seemed to cost a bit much for what i got and The Yorkshire puddings, were as Chewy as anything meet was goox but thats the only thing i could say i wont be back
B. S.
Great personal service, great value at times, though portions getting smaller having slithers of gammon & turkey on the plate, not happy but filled up on veg. Otherwise satisfactorily happy
K. B.
Excellent food don't really cater for toddlers.... high chair too small adult chairs to big. Only offer a small dish so child can't move food about like they do..
R. G.
Food was good,but very pricey.
W. G.
The lady who got us a table was so lovely and helpful. Could not do enough to help. Food was excellent as always. Loved it. X
L. J.
Lovely staff and great service
Food was very tasty and value for money. Thank you
D. H.
Lovely carvery as usual, can get very busy though. Long waiting times at certain times. Fairly limited parking. Food and service are excellen.
M. F.
Lovely food as always
J. A.
Love their food. Occasionally the veg is slightly underdone - go for smaller roast potatoes 🙂
S.
This place never seems to put out a bad carvery. I go quite randomly with my son and it's always the best. Clean and staff friendly and efficient. Highly recommends...
L. P.
Food is absolutely amazing service is amazing would highly recommend to anyone who loves great food.
A. H.
Went out for a meal last night- the manager/ deputy manager was lovely- food was lovely too
H. B.
Today my wife and I for the first time called into toby Lincoln we are used to toby's in Exeter, how ever from the moment we stepped into the Lincoln toby we had a first class welcome nothing was to much trouble for the staff spot on, and very helpful very clean and very comfortable surroundings as for the food sumptuous is one word for it we enjoyed every moment of the meal and will be going back for more even to try the full on breakfast
