We decided since William Foster was in a side road off the High St, that it'd make a good place to stop for lunch whilst on a Christmas shopping trip in Lincoln. It's a large pub split into 2 main areas, with a really good choice of beers & meals, and plenty of space between tables. The staff were pleasant & helpful, just as well, as unfortunately we were informed that the hand battered cod & chips we ordered had run out, so had to sort out changing the order. In the end we ordered: Double BBQ Chicken topped with Bacon & Cheese (Hunter's Chicken), Double Burger the 'Bacon Classic', and I had the Mixed Grill. We all had drinks, and the bill came to just under £33, which considering what a less enjoyable meal in McD's or BK would cost, is great value. Food arrived within about 10-15 minutes, and was not only nicely presented (see my pictures), but well cooked too, especially my medium rare steak, perfect! The only real disappointment was the grilled tomato, seared, but not cooked. I wasn't expecting a £9.99 Mixed Grill to be as good as this, but a good selection, decent quality and very tasty. The other 2 meals got a big thumbs up too, so all good, and left us ready to hit the shops again. As for the pub, I'd imagine it does get very busy judging by how many TV's were around for the sports, and the pool tables, but a pleasant, not rowdy pub experience.

Good food, friendly staff. Booked a table for dinner but the staff placed us under a big TV during a football match which meant half the pub were sitting in a big semi circle facing us while we were trying to eat. I've never felt so uncomfortable, if you can't reserve tables for people because you get too busy then don't offer it....

Under new management would not be a good way of putting it....we have visited before and used to get great service. This last time we had lengthy delay on food on a Saturday and then the food was wrong. Although a free coffee was provided when your breakfast isn't warm you know there is an issue .

Nice meals cheap too good selection although no steak or steak and ale pie which was bad really considering that the steak was supposed to be available on a Monday special. Hubby wasn't happy but alternative was nice arrived quickly and good size portions.

The William Foster is the best place to go to watch the football. They show all of the different games. Great just in time for the world cup. Drinks are reasonable and staff are amazing too.

Came for lunch with a friend, arrived at 1pm, potentially a very busy time, luckily it was fairly quiet as there was only 1 member of staff serving behind the bar, taking food orders and serving food. He was run off his feet. I ordered the vegan lentil and bean pie. It came topped with loads of cheese, which wasn't how it was described on the menu. On checking with the 1 staff member, it turns out that the cheese was not vegan. I have a dairy allergy!!!! I would say there is a serious problem with food trading and standards, which needs sorting urgently. It just isn't funny. Top marks to the barman, no marks for the management or kitchen staff

Update September 2022.busy but found table just become vacant,nice young lady cleared it and gave it a good wipe !! TV ,s a bit loud and with lot people made your head spin a bit.but you soon get used to it. Meals good value and didn't wait too long.all staff we dealt with efficient and pleasant. Don't visit Lincoln often but worth eating here when we do.

Visited today for some lunch with my Mum whilst out shopping. Pub looked clean and tidy, the barman was very friendly and attentive when ordering. The food arrived quickly, hot and very tasty. Booked a table for lunch only to find out when we got there that no food was being served. The cook was at the pub across the road. We didn't know both pubs are in a chain. So, we went to other pub for lunch. Other than that the William Foster is a nice pub and the beer is good too. When I visit Lincoln I always call at the William Foster

Was very surprised by this place. Used to work near it and always thought of it to be rowdy and rough but it was lovely. Great atmosphere and staff. Friday special - two large freshly cooked cod and chips (skin removed from cod before battering - important!!) and two pints for £13.98! Great meal and exceptional value for money.
