Lovely beer garden to enjoy the sunshine. My friend and I got the small plates to share. They were all delicious, although I found the Cauliflower wings a bit *too* hot but that's personal preference. When I mentioned this to the manager (as a passing comment) she came out with some complimentary raspberry sorbet from the chef, which was a lovely touch. It's my local in terms of distance so I'll definitely be back!

Recently redecorated and developed to include heated booths outside. This is of a high standard and very tasteful. The selection of beers includes casks which are well kept, plus home and continental lagers and ciders. Full range of wines and spirits. Friendly efficient staff added to our very pleasant visit. Going to try the food menu on our next visit, which we are looking forward to.

The staff were so attentive and asked if we need anything else. Food came quick considering it was Saturday. Very fresh, starters lovely especilly the chicken wings! Burger looked so good when it came too and tasted even better. Would definitely come again :)

A Greene King chain pub that rises above the norm. What a lovely place for a bite to eat. The location is stunning and the pub itself is nicely laid out and clean and tidy. The menu isn’t massive but still a lovely selection amazing value for money. The food was nice and served with a smile. There is really nice atmosphere very friendly and helpful staff members, Plenty of parking and a lovely grassy/ seating area outside to sit and enjoy the beautiful sun shine on a hot day with a nice cold drink of which they have a lot to offer with my little dog who loves coming to visit. As it’s great to have somewhere that allows dogs. We're going back very soon.

After a major refurbishment we decided to go with several friends for Sunday lunch, the decor was lovely, really different to as it was before but I'm sorry to say the food was disappointing, we had the double bill roast dinner which was one thin slice of turkey and one beef, cauliflower cheese, one stem of what I think was broccoli over cooked and a few peas, few roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and gravy lashed all over, not separate, good job we like it. The portion size for the price was poor. I think it was £15.95 so £32 for 2. All meals were lukewarm and just really disappointing, the chap came and asked if everything was OK and in true British form everyone said yes, we should have commented. I will go back for the atmosphere which is warm and welcoming but I'm not sure I will eat there again, sorry Cross House for the lukewarm review

Really good food and nice place. Garden and patio areas are really extensive. Would be good in the summer. Not that many tables for dining inside. Reserved a table but needn't have bothered because there wasn't one reserved just told to sit anywhere.

Visited the Crosshouse with friends for the first time since refurbishment expecting to find an improvement but was left very disappointed with the decor & lighting. We were seated at the back of the pub which was not very warm we all had to keep our coats on during the meal which arrived cold . Maybe it's just a settling in period but there's no excuse for serving cold food! Four of our meals were sent back and returned to our table cold again. I would say that Sam the manager dealt with the issue very professionally and didn't charge for the food that was sent back to the kitchen. Not our best experience at the Cross .

Love the re-furb. Nipped to the pub to watch the match, great atmosphere and it was packed. Although I didn't eat, the people on the next table had some items off the 'small plates' menu and it looked amazing (they said it was too).

Amazing pub came in on Sunday for a lovely Sunday lunch with the kids. When we turned up there was a fire engine for the kids they loved it. The service was amazing and anything I needed I got. Visited here on 22nd February for my cousins birthday party. What a fantastic afternoon. Great food and really pleasant atmosphere even though the whole place was in full swing for Saturday afternoon diners. The staff were great. Pleasant, welcoming and smiling. Pub/restaurant with good service and friendly staff. Menu a bit restricted and limited. A variety of beers but not much choice in the way of ciders. Food very tasty and reasonable portions. Went for lunch today with my brother and arrived just before 2pm. We were informed that the chef was on his lunch and that we couldn't be served before at least 3pm. However Sam, the duty manager, gave us a menu and offered us several meals from it which he could possibly provide immediately. We both chose 5oz gammon steak with chips and garden peas and were told by Sam he would do that for us; which he did. We were served at 2:25pm and had a very good meal. Service was excellent and Sam attended to all our requests. A great thank you to Sam for a very enjoyable afternoon. Returned recently and standards high, although very quiet at the time.

Popped in over the weekend whilst in the Formby area, what a brilliant little pub. Service was fantastic, even dog friendly which made it better. Perfect beer garden for the weather will definitely visit again when in the area. Heard there is new menu up and coming so will pop back to try that.

Having been a little disappointed to go out for , I think, the second time since the embuggerance began for an " intimate" meal, (rather than a bash or family outing), we discovered the cross house to be " closed for refurbishment" about a fortnight ago. So, like all good Christians, we swore a blasted oath, moved on, and tried again. Our fault- we should have checked! I'm glad we did try again though. Our house is in the middle of some industrial grade renovation, so meals, whilst up to the usual high culinary standards, have been a rather brief affair of late- nobody wants to sit round in a mostly empty, undecorated room. It being sunday, we'd decided on a wobble and a quiet meal, and tried the cross house again. I had a mixed grill in mind, but after s consultation, we decided on a sharing platter with a few sides ( squid, chicken, mango and lime tacos and a pound of chicken wings to " fill n the corners".). The platter had chicken gougons, a couple of wings, garlic bread (it's the future), onion rings and a bowl of smothered nachos. The whole thing was presented in fine style ( and in person!) by our young chef. If I say I have never had a better platter outside of the USA, it's no exaggeration. Nothing was too much trouble- we were left the perfect time to enjoy our pre meal drinks ( a couple of very presentable pints of real ale - quite an achievement since one of the barmaids whispered an aside that they'd been " hammered on the real ale sales due to the jubilee," and all things considered could not have been treated nicer. I look forward to a return visit got my mixed grill!

Went to Formby for a overnight stay and visited the Cross Inn, it was a absolute delight pub the manager conrad was pleasant and interactivewith us most of the night , the staff are super friendly,great prices for drink and food was delicious I've never had a better burger simply perfect, highly recommend will be telling all my friends and visiting again

I could not recommend the Cross House enough for a family celebration. When I phoned to make the booking, it was very personalised and they made arrangements for birthday balloons and banners which surprised and delighted my son. Visited The Crosshouse a couple times over the past few weeks and there seems to be nee life in the place. The slight changes to decor are a massive improvement, it makes it seem like someone cares. The new management team are taking steps in the right direction and from talking to them they really want to see the pub flourish. Something that seems to have been lost on the past couple managers. I can’t wait to see what happens over the next few months. Would definitely recommend!!

Lovely pub very welcoming. Spent a lovely few hours with my son enjoying the food and a wonderful atmosphere. I had the chicken tikka with wild rice, popadom, flatbread (that I was unsure about at the time I ordered it but it was really good) and I ordered extra chips. My son ordered the deep filled steak pie with mash and broccoli, it was so yummy that for the first time ever he couldn’t talk to me because he was enjoying it so much. The football (Liverpool vs City) was on the tv so the atmosphere was exciting. The staff are really helpful and nothing was to much if you needed anything. Conrad the new manager was also very welcoming and it was nice to talk with him about his ideas and the way forward for this wonderful pub. Don’t forget to get that extra TV so next time I can also watch the game. Will definitely be coming back. Thank you

We came from out of town for a birthday meeting. First impressions very run down from the outside. We were quite a large group so the food was ordered in advance. Once we had sat down people must of waited at least an hour for there starters then at least a further hour for the main courses. Food was OK but not worth such a long wait.

What a good find for an overnight stopover in the car park of The Cross House Inn Formby before catching the ferry to Dublin (only 30mins drive from pub). We rang up before arriving to make sure that it was ok to park overnight. The guy on the phone couldn’t have been more helpful and friendly and informed us that it was ok to stop. On arrival we parked at the back of the car park where there was plenty of overhang onto the grassed area. Then off into the pub where we spoke to a guy called Sam to let him know we were staying. He was welcoming and said we could stay as long as we wanted. We then took a table at a window seat. The decoration of the pub is modern and welcoming with a very local pub feel about it. We ordered from the menu a selection of 5 small plates. Food was served in a timely manner and well presented. After a very tasty main meal we then had the sharing desserts which was a selection of 5 small portions and more than enough after our mains. The prices of both drinks and food was very reasonable and well worth it. Sam was a very chatty guy and gave us info on the local area and beaches. He was a pleasure to speak to. If down this way again we will definitely pop in. A really friendly atmosphere and good food and drink.

Greene King Pubs are know for their Ales, the Cross House is also at the heart of Formby. Not a bot, not anything to do with the place, just a punter.

Having been regular customers for over 30 years we have seen management come and go! So please read on to the end! The Cross house had gone down hill in most respects especially- service and management! HOWEVER!! The NEW MANAGEMENT now taken over are turning it upside down! Within weeks we can see a massive difference ! Ambiance, looks but most of all the staff are attentive and pleased to accommodate any requests! Long may it continue ! Well done!!!

Very nice place, very good service. Essentially, nice food but unlike most Greene Kings no food deals. A few small mistakes noted too. The menu said the roasts were served with 'lashings of gravy'. Well yes, if lashing a mouse 🤔 Also, just 3 small roast potatoes - so there you go, two of the cheapest items on the plate with the greatest potential to please, neither quite good enough. The beef, also, not great. Two thin slices, some fat - just enough to do the job, though not excel at it. My partners extra side, cauliflower cheese, was also stone cold under a hot topping. At £33, with two drinks, it wasn't bad but neither was it remarkable enough to inspire a second visit.

Manager was great , waitresses and quality not so much . Give them some training. Example we ordered 3 steaks and she brought one over to which we said which one is this and the reply was.. dunno. Tables wasn't cleared even when we asked . We wasn't checked on , items missing of plates , steaks over cooked . The list goes on .

Well designed and spacious place with good covid adaptation. Our server/waiter was extremely accommodating, personable, and consistent. The rosemary fries I had did not taste of rosemary unfortunately, so this review would've been 4 stars if it weren't for the faultless service. Other staff were also patient and friendly and generally very quick and responsive Other than the rosemary fries definitely not having anywhere near enough rosemary, the food was really good and it came at very reasonable prices. Give that lad a payrise.

Great service. The food was excellent. The only downer is Greene Kings online food ordering system. It's really tricky when you have 6 people all wanting different options and none standard. It was impossible to select the correct options without the help of the staff. Bring back normal menus and ordering ASAP.

I visited the Cross House Formby with my friends today. Excellent service. Our table for 9 was ready for us. We explored the various menus Mains, 2courses, Wednesday pie menu and Gluten free menu. Great choice of food and also drinks including a good selection of cask ales. The meals and drinks were excellent value. The place was very clean and the atmosphere was friendly. The service from our waitress Janet could not be faulted. We will visit again and would recommend others to do so.

Good pub food. We had fish and chips and Salmon Salad. All very nice, except Salad with the salmon pretty basic and did not include the asparagus as advertised! This was a bit naughty given that the asparagus is probably the most expensive part of the salad. The fish was very nice. The price of the food was a little expensive. We also had to wait a good 30 minutes for our food. Overall, food good, but could do better in other areas.

Lovely helpful, friendly staff 😉 very clean & very much stuck to the present covid-19 rules. Overalls a lovely pub with a good atmosphere. Absolutely delicious sea bass risotto. Daughter is vegan and had the lentil cottage pie, she said was very nice. Fish and chips was just ok, over cooked fish, chips good. The lamb hotpot was disappointing, came in an individual dish, good pastry though only half a dish of filling, so very small portion, when asked the staff about this they said that's how it comes, it tasted ok. Child's fish finger, peas and sweetcorn good, child's pizza for us too thick with little topping. Although some of the food was a little disappointing we had a lovely few hours here.

I can't describe how great this place is. The food was amazing. The decor is perfect for a the cozy homey feeling i feel was intended. It's very, very "on-point." I can tell the owners love their place, a lot of love seems to have gone into this establishment. I will go back again for sure! Try the banoffee pie, I could not believe how good it was! If you have a chance to go here, do not pass it up! Be it for a simple drink or a meal. It's one of the most perfect places to do either.
