Reviews of The Freshfield
T. T.
Highly recommend this place. Really nice atmosphere. Plenty of seating in quiet booths or family style tables including outdoor. Decor was nice. Food was 10/10. Tasty, fresh and quickly delivered in about 10 mins. Staff were really happy and friendly. We will be back. Those bao buns 👌

This is a lively pub which is very comfortable to meet friends, eat and watch football. There is a good selection of beers and great choice on the menu. From bar snacks to full meals. Sport always on tv so good for keeping an eye on football. Good indoor dog walker section. Also looks good for families. Good spacious garden. Friendly service.

This place is amazing! We’ve visited a few times recently, after a walk on the beach with our dog. They have a superb dog friendly area, the food has been really great on both our visits and all the team are super friendly! We’re going again this week and I can’t wait 😊

First time at this pub on Monday and it was fantastic!
Really busy, people everywhere, but I have to say the staff where amazing! Our food came out in a good time considering how busy the pub was and the chicken ranch burger was delicious. Great atmosphere and just wanted to say a big thank you to the team for making our bank holiday Monday great! We will be back soon.

Great venue for family meals and drinks also dog friendly which is a real plus these days, so many eating houses are encouraging a safe pet environment. Only negative side was slow service from the bar, never happened previously but I'm asked to "share your experience " so it's warts and all. It most definitely won't stop me dining/ drinking there again, obviously a staff issue maybe.
A. W.
Great coffee! Chatting to one of the staff and they have recently had a new coffee machine installed. Have to say the coffee is delicious! Really has improved since my last visit. I use the pub regularly for work as it has some great quiet areas and the team are always fantastic and very attentive
l. m.
This place always seems a bit empty and with an ambience that makes you feel you want to leave and go somewhere with a bit more of an atmosphere were other guests are enjoying themselves. I just cannot figure out what is wrong.
Saying the above may seem very harsh as my family thoroughly enjoyed our food which was excellent and the staff were perfection constantly checking everything was OK with our meals and each of them was always smiling and seemed genuine.
So sorry about the negative thoughts but the quality of the food and the service outweighs any off puts of the pub. I will definately be back
D. H.
Great selection of beers, can be a bit pricey and don't like it when youv been patiently waiting at the bar and they serve someone before you who's just arrived well after you, plus nearly £3 for a glass of coke which was mainly ice! Nice pub otherwise and good dog area and nice to sit outside in warmer months.
b.
Great bear, great food, great ambience. Sometime service is slow or patchy on food so hence 4 and not 5 stars. Went in last week when it seemed quite quiet (third full in bar, quarter filled in restaurant area) and was told would be hour and half wait. I saw 1 person ordering food whilst I waited 10 minutes to place mine. Given 3 people serving at bar this seemed just weird wait.

Wonderful dinner last night here while we were on holiday, probably the best lasagne I've ever tasted, and my son really enjoyed his burger. Lovely service too. Pub has such a nice ambience. Thank you.
J. K.
Only wanted a snack I.e. soup and sandwich but this wasn't available on a Sunday. We shared a burger and chips which was average. The decor in the side of the premises open to dogs needs some attention. The staff were excellent, very friendly and efficient.
K. S.
Had a fantastic afternoon at the pub today.
It was very busy, because of the cup match between Liverpool and Chelsea.
The Sunday Roadt was a.azing and came to the table quickly.
Well Done to all of your wonderful staff.and came to our table very quickly.
See you again soon.
R. W.
Really slow service, more than an hour wait, but they did warn us it would be 45 minutes so can't complain too much, ordered chicken and halloumi for starters and got battered fish, but then comped it off. Bit of a nightmare but the food was decent and they were just too busy.

My partner and I travel round the UK to do metal detecting and we call into local bars and resteraunts for food especially Sunday lunch . After we finished detecting on formby point beach we seen the freshfield and saw the car park was busy so we gave it a try .we'll can I say simply amazing the staff were so friendly I said to the mrs if the food is as good as the service and the staff I would be happy my god the food was outstanding thank you to all at freshfield the chatty lad from Manchester
s. r.
After a walk on the beach, we went in for a delicious fish finger sandwich and pint of Citra on cask, which was kept in excellent conditions. I will definitely be returning soon
M. C.
Had our tea out on Saturday, food in the freshfield is really good. Beer was nice, although a sad sign of the times when the specials board is empty. Staff were really nice, very helpful, couldn't do enough for you. We'll be going again, hopefully over Christmas.
A. D.
What a great find!! Brilliant selection of well kept beer, good food and friendly, helpful staff..... What more could you want??
J. H.
Staff very nice, food ok and large range of beers however, the opening times listed on website, facebook and google are all not followed - they open and close whenever they want which was very unhelpful. You can imagine the frustration after a meal has been planned and all the doors are locked as you get there. Nice, when open but not a good experience.
M. A.
A lovely place for a pint. Wonderful atmosphere and great selection of real ales.
M. S.
Decent food and drink at fair prices. Staff and service very good. A nice afternoon apart from the giant TV screens everywhere, all showing football highlights that nobody was watching.
K. S.
Great pub with great food and a very cosy atmosphere. Staff are excellent with lots of pleasant personalities.
I will most definitely be returning in the near future.
A. B.
What a lovely pub with great staff! Very friendly, couldn’t do enough to help. So refreshing to see this we will be making this our go to pub.

The Freshie is the place to be if you’re in the area.
Excellent staff and service, excellent food and prices.
It’s located just around the corner from the train staton, super easy to find.
Clean, modern and very cosy.
Whether you want to sit inside or out, have a meal, a pint or to watch the match - the freshie can accommodate all - Dogs are welcome too!
They had an issue with the card machine, and for every pre-booked table, they phoned all the customers to make them aware of this before they arrived.
Honestly just all round above and beyond!
It’s also Klopp’s favourite local watering hole!
LFC had an away game when we went, but we were lucky enough to have a photo with the legend Stevie G, so keep your eyes peeled for the local celebs!

We spent a lovely afternoon in the Freshfield yesterday..
A little apprehensive as we had been disappointed by the food a couple of times prior to lockdown.
There was no need to be, the service we received was very friendly, pleasant and welcoming from the manager and staff.
The food was excellent, hot, fresh and very tasty.
Would definitely recommend a visit.
Won't be leaving it as long before we go again.
p. k.
Absolutely amazing. Separate area for doggies. Food was absolutely AWESOME ! Very well priced and staff very friendly. Highly recommended
S. F.
Such a homely feel to a large pub. Drinks selection immense. Unfortunately, due ro supply problems, didn't eat today but have previously and fabulous food.
E. J.
Visited here a few days ago with some friends, the food was excellent and the service was second to none. We will be back soon!
j. b.
Had a lovely lunch at The Freshfield today, great food and super friendly really attentive staff. Have already arranged to go back for Sunday lunch with friends.
S. B.
A lovely, family friendly restaurant.
Our Sunday Roast were delicious.

Lovely food. Lovely Service from Kim and her Team.
Great place to be.

I haven’t visited recently but always had a good experience at The Freshie with great food and staff!
J. M.
Great staff and good menu. Good arrived fairly quickly was hot and very tasty.
Have been before and will be back no doubt

Been here for meals a few times and drinks as well. Always nice food, the fried dill pickles are always worth ordering. Always got a good selection of beers on tap.
L. S.
Lovely food very friendly pub staff really helpful
M. C.
Great place...real ales.... Kim and the team are great...oh yes and our June....thank you all...you really look after the oldies....
T. C.
A pint of beer and a lager shandy - £8.30.
Same order at Wetherspoons down the road £3.48
c. p.
Fantastic fresh and tasty food, Warm and friendly welcome. Lovely relaxed atmosphere, will definitely visit again and would recommend to anyone who asks!
R. A. D.
Early afternoon meet up with the lads, pre booked. Friendly greeting on arrival, beers where spot on, food was just the job, and mostly, the service was cheerful. Will always be on my list of pubs to go to. P.s I'm from Churchtown. 😁👍🍺
k. H.
Lovely food including veggie options, nice range of ales on tap and good service for bringing the dogs after a walk
B.
The ordering system for food was broken, but not their fault. Main sell was it had a separate section for dogs!! Very handy
J. S.
Lovely manager. She accommodated our group of ladies for a meeting and made us very welcome.
J. M.
Oh so classy and friendly in an affluent area of Merseyside.
A. M.
Steak pie tasty but disappointed with the small amount of veg and the chips were not triple hand cooked.
P. L.
Daughter (currently 7) went for the 1st time. Wants to go to this 'restaurant' (as she calls it 🤣) for her 8th birthday.
R. D.
I have no doubt this place is usually great and I possibly arrived on a bad day. There is a good beer selection that looks like it will expand when possible. The loss of stars was due to the wrong order arriving... But still being charged at the end. Also half way through my first pint we noticed an expired insect flavoring my beverage.
g. t.
Lovely pub in a lovely spot! I always stop here on a bike ride from Liverpool.. Great selection of ale. You won't be short of choice of real ale here that's for sure . Lots of local beer and the rest. Lots of outside space... You might even see an enigmatic German in here having an erdinger but don't mither him he's a busy man..
J.
Really friendly staff. Great place to go on a hot day.
A.
Me and my friend went to the freshfield on a Tuesday evening at 6.45. We got asked had we booked a table, which we hadn't, so we went outside and booked one on our phone for 7pm. The staff seemed surprised as the booking line shouldn't have been still open. The manageress explained they were really short staffed due to some of them having to go home cos of covid, and there was only one chef and there was a 45 minute wait. We said this was ok and took a seat. Our food arrived about 10/15 minutes later and we both agreed it was very nice. I would definitely go back there. Its a lovely pub with lovely food and nice staff.
H. O.
Went with my 2 daughters and granddaughter, will certainly go back. The staff are lovely and it has a brilliant atmosphere.
England match was on and it was still quiet enough for conversations. Definitely recommend this place.
M. P.
Amazing Sunday roast just got better with a new chef - ordered extra roasties expecting 2 or 3 got a whole bowl full and they allow dogs too - perfect after a walk in the nature reserve and beach
J. G.
What a lovely lovely place the staff are so attentive the chefs fantastic and the manager Jaqiue wow was fantastic
I would 100 percent come back here again
Thank u so much for the relaxed and much appreciated environment
Well done all
And as I’m a pub ownwr of 5 premises I would say ur staff are fantastic well done
s.
Friendly staf and great selection of ales.
E. P.
Amazing place to visit!
B. M.
Big busy pub. Food good and plentiful. Went with disabled friend and access excellent. Staff pleasant although I felt resistance to slowness of disabled person from one of the staff. Happens everywhere.
D. R.
Only stopped for a pint after a walk. Ordered to table using the app, bit of a rigmarole setting up account on app but once ordered, the drinks were at the table sharpish. Been before, would recommend
O. M.
Fantastic place with lovely atmosphere and delicious food! I will definitely go back.
M. H.
Beers excellent, staff friendly, comfortable.
L. G.
Service was quite slow to the point we have up and decided not to have our last drink. I have been to the pub before so this was not typical of the service received. Very well laid out and safe, adhering to all current protocols.
M. M.
The "Freshie" was rather quiet on the particular evening of my visit but that did not detract from the welcoming and friendly "ambiance" nor from the taste and quality of the real ale offer. All appropriate Covid requirements were complied with and the staff were helpful and friendly. Visit soon!!
M. B.
Good selection of ales, food was average typical pub grub, but staff and layout was great, well spaced out, the bar not the staff
M. W.
Friendly atmosphere, with good choice of beers and food.
S.
Great pub! Welcoming staff, average prices and good atmosphere.
P. B.
Loved it here after our dog walk in the woods. Lovely pub menu and food was nice. Didn’t have to wait too long for it either but it wasn’t particularly busy at the time.
May sound petty, but didn’t like having to go to the opposite end of the bar to order our food, past various other tills, and also only allowed to use one of the entrances because we were with our little pooch.
Overall great pub lunch in dog friendly area of the bar. Will definitely return.
K. M.
Excellent real ale selection. Unfortunately for my T total sister, there was little non alcoholic drinks available.
G. E.
Nice pub. Dog friendly. Interesting menu look closely for offers they can save you a lot.
Would happily visit again.
A. R.
Nice pub great selection of cask ale, and dog friendly
L. W.
A great place to enjoy a nice drink in a chilled safe area. Nice food. Dog friendly. Staff all very pleasant and helpful. Thanks everyone. Fantastic atmosphere.
G. M.
Pleasant bar staff and atmosphere but they had run out of a lot of food, basic stuff, bread, cheese etc for toasted sandwiches etc.
O. f. D.
Lovely little place. Nice little menu that is not too expensive. Sells grazing a well s bigger meals
Good dogs can go into a dog area and sit with owners.
Short walk from squirrel reserve and beach. Been couple of times staff nice and friendly
R. J.
This agreeably refurbished pub serves some of the best-kept beer in Merseyside. And has done so for many, many years.
P. F.
Nice pub. Dog friendly and there were certainly many of them! Great selection of beers, ales, mild...The menu is "typical" pub menu, but with triple fried chips, which are delicious. Advice? have the seafood grill, lovely. But for a waitress in there we nearly left. She was un-wellcoming on arrival and when later asked her for food after finding our own table she said 1 hour for food. Nearly gave up but my wife tried another person and she was reassured than no more than half. And food came promptly. Won't give her name.
A. C.
Went to the freshfield yesterday as it is one of the few pubs in Formby to allow dogs.1st time in a bar since the lockdown. It was very well laid out. Staff were in masks when outside of the bar so this was good. Plenty of signage/ hand sanitizer etc located around all areas so we felt confident to be there. Still has a large menu to choose from. You can use the green king app to order drinks and food so you do not even have to leave your table. There is also an outside area for you and your dog which is okay but the 3 of us were on our own. Should more people turn up it would feel a bit too close for the situation at the moment. Will go back again though as it's always comfortable and friendly
S. L.
Lovely lunch in very nice traditional pub. Dog friendly and our dog very much enjoyed his sausage!
H. O.
Popped in for a drink after doing a walk around the Squirrel Walk at Formby. Place obviously been really busy on New Year's Eve lunch but staff still pleasant and efficient. 5 mins too late to order any food as shut kitchen at 3 so missed out. Seemed a very large, food dominated pub which it would be best to see after festive holidays to assess what it is really like
C. O.
Came here after having a lovely walk along Formby beach. We drove from where we were parked, but it was within walking distance. Nicely decorated pub, great atmosphere. We picked mainly because it was dog friendly. It had a large section for dogs and a separate entrance, though can walk through the main pub. Great food- our party had roast dinners, fish and chips and beef and bone marrow pudding- all delicious! Will definitely be returning there when we visit the beach again.
t. m.
Lovely atmosphere, the menu was good, but as a vegetarian my options were a bit limited. However, I had a cheese toastie and it was the best I have ever had so definitely worth a visit!
J. L.
Need to be clearer on protocols for non locals (table service has to be better) but the staff are great, really friendly and the food is great for groups. Best thing is the selection of ales they have. Great place, really recommend
M. C.
Covid safe, ordered food via the app. Really delicious. Would recommend. Disabled accessibe as long as someone can open doors for you. Access loo available.
S. L.
Excellent selection of real ales...great pub superb service
Great venue with lots of outdoor seating. Excellent real ales... especially the Citra! Service superb... Swift, friendly and efficient. I particularly like the chicken wings which are great value! Covid safety take seriously.
J. M.
Staff friendly and helpful and provide a good service. Plenty of menu choices and the food I've had has always been well presented and good quality. Outdoor seating is available in a nice quiet location and inside there is a dog friendly area if needed. Well worth a visit.
D. D.
Always a great selection of a wide variety of well-kept cask ales to try. There’s beers from the bigger, national breweries, as well as from smaller, local ones.
I’ve only rated four stars as although there’s a good choice of food options, sometimes it can be a bit “lack lustre” at busier times. There’s never been anything I’ve had to send back, but sometimes I think the kitchens could do a little better.
G. K.
Great selection of hand pull cask. The pub has recently undergone a refurbishment and have adopted a more modern approach. My only criticism is that some of it's original "pub-like" charm has been lost as a result. An otherwise great boozer with friendly knowledgeable staff.
S. W.
Not such a good experience this time. Food excellent but service not wonderful. To be fair I think staff were inexperienced but no one seemed to be supporting them
C. H.
Such a lovely pub with great staff. The pub even has a dog friendly area! Perfect for all ages
t. J.
Nice food, good value and very dog friendly.we visited on a Sunday, it had clearly been busy. Struggled to find a clean table. Had to sit near the gents toilets, which had a very strong odour. Would visit again, but hopefully more staff on next time.
K. S.
Great food, great staff lovely place to go when having a catch up with family. Definitely will go again.
R. H.
Food was really nice, and the staff were lovely
O. R.
Great, friendly pub with good food and huge selection of local and well known beers. Dog friendly with open fires and TVs for sports, but doesn't get in the way of the homely feel.
A. T.
Traditional pub with good beer and pub grub
G.
Great, traditional pub. The night we visited they had 14 craft beers on tap, along with about 12 of the standard offering of keg beers.
Apparently, talking to the locals, the food menu can be hit or miss. The lamb shank are well regarded. I enjoyed the gammon steak with fried eggs, chips and peas. My wife enjoyed her seafood rissotto.
Great choice of gins - maybe over 15 different brands - but I didn't count them all.
Ample choice of outdoor eating areas. Dogs welcome. Free WiFi.
Do go, you will enjoy it.
T. W.
Lovely place. Nice and friendly staff. We took our 1 year old and we were made to feel very welcome. Food was beautiful. Lots of screens for sport lovers, and also areas for people who don't so much
d. f.
Very good service and food. Great choice of real ales..beavertown neck oil on tap and gamma ray in tins..dog friendly. Would like to see some unfined proper craft beers to compliment their real ales. All in all great pub.
P. H.
Excellent dog friendly pub with a room for dogs and their families. 🐾
K. W.
A lovely little gem of a pub, great food and atmosphere 👍🏻
P. L.
Beautiful lunch, gluten free option and right size portion. Fabulous sized area to bring dogs. Didn't feel pushed out in a corner.
B. H.
I've visited The Freshfield a couple of times over the last 5 years in Summer, Food here is always fresh and delicious and service is fantastic. Very close to the beach to walk up at lunch. Staff are friendly and polite.
