Lovely food, good service, and a very nice building with a history and nice renovation details.. NOTE: Disabled toilets contain ceiling track hoist, with good manoeuvrability, nice and clean .. hence the 5 stars

Busy pub and lively at the weekend with a mix of older and younger drinkers. Staff are quick with table service and to clean up after punters have left table. Main thing like all Spoons pubs is the beer is cheap and probably explains how popular it is. Not everyone can afford five quid pints at the new and reburbed venues not too far away. Thank god for Tim Martin and prices we can all enjoy.

I do like this pub, from the outside it looks Amazing, like a flagship for spoons but me and my freinds who eat and drink here think it's understaffed.. the place is so big..my local spoons is a third the size but with the same amount of staff as this place. The staff do there best if you watch them,non stop,if you ever think it's untidy just help.. Doesn't take much to take your glasses or plate's back instead of leaving them on the table.. Had a fab meal some great real ale, good company too. Great freindly staff as always x

Really nice pub, large seating area inside, plus front and rear beer gardens. Being able to see your food prepared is different (for a Wetherspoons, although I've been to one in Blackpool where you can sort of see in the kitchen but not as open as this one). Quite slow service on a Friday afternoon, but otherwise a typical 'spoons just with super clean and elegant toilets. Sadly pizza had half the toppings it normally has or used to have, maybe they're trying to save money by cutting down on the toppings or we were just unlucky like that.

A nice looking spoons but quite easily drive past it before you get to the roundabout by the shops. A nice open view kitchen where you can see the young chefs having a melt down but still getting the food to your table no problem. A big expansive floor area. Getting through the small high tables towards the exit can be a challenge with the high barstool chairs strune everywhere lol. That is just a tiny gripe on a well run spoons. Staff very pleasent and attentive to requests. Always visit while in Formby 👍👍

Great cocktails and great food, especially the chips. Cheap food. Using the app means they bring everything to your table. Evenings are always busy, but daytime is often quiet. If you can snag a booth there are outlets for usbs and plugs so a few of you can charge your phones or use laptops to get work done, found this very useful in the past. Child friendly, often a lot of children in the evenings.

First time in the Lifeboat and we loved it. Comfortable and very clean. It is newish.

A good welcome, felt safe. The tables were deep cleaned before we were able to sit down. We had a choice of either outside or inside dining. The only thing to point out is that if you are outside you would have to order through the app which for 3 of the party didn't have smart phones. When we did order through the members that had smartphones, it would not allowed the payment to go through. Our party were not the only ones that had this difficulty, so there was quite a queue at the bar to order. We had the breakfast menu and refillable coffee. The breakfasts arrived hot, correct and quickly. The party thoroughly enjoyed the breakfasts and the coffee tasted good. The disabled toilet downstairs was very clean and spacious. It had a changing table for those that need full care and adjustable wash sink and privacy screens. I can't comment about the normal toilets that are located upstairs. Will definitely be coming again.

Came for evening meal with family lovely pub very quiet. Ordered via app and half of the meal/drinks didn’t come. When told waitress she looked confused. 10 mins later returned with the drink and then came with the sides after meal had finished. Maybe she thought sides were desserts? Disappointed god help them if they were busy

Busy, floor under table filthy. Cutlery needed an extra wipe. Kids meal was good, massive portion of chicken nuggets,chips and salad, fish and chips good, burgers not very nice. But cheap compared to other pubs. Won't be rushing back.

Our second visit to a Wetherspoons pub for food this week and a massive difference in the experience. The Lifeboat is a large open plan pub with a beer garden to the rear containing small beach-hut style booths. Having had a less than enjoyable meal at another Wetherspoons in Southport the day before we were in two minds as to whether we should try this one... We were glad we did. The staff from the start were friendly, attentive and obviously very efficient. The kitchen and pass are well lit and visible from most tables. We could see that it was clean and the kitchen team were hygienic and quick. When the food arrived it was hot (important!), well presented and tasty. I couldn't fault the experience and made sure the manager was aware of the excellent team she had working with her.

Great pub and good value but they need to enforce their own non-smoking policy. People were sat at tables in the beer garden that had a big "no smoking at this table sign" and staff were serving them and not even saying anything. The idea of being able to sit in a smoke free area outside is fantastic but what's the point of staff don't enforce it?

Well designed layout and excellent outside area, really smart. Nice staff. Sadly my meal of Fish ,& chips was overcooked, hard brown batter, cool chips and husband's gammon was more like shoe leather. Felt slightly let down as we use Weatherspoons a lot on our travels . Incidentally, husband tried the meal I had previously complained about in the Weathspoons in Malvern a couple of days later; a totally different experience in that the fish had a beautiful golden batter and the whole meal was hot.

The Lifeboat has got to be one of the better Wetherspoons, the inside dining area is spotless and the service is quick and staff attentive. The food is the standard Wetherspoons menu but seems to be better prepared and presented.

Went with a group of around 15 the place was not busy the odd table was occupied. The mixed grill I got was cold and the steak I got was rubbery although I got 1 extra steak and no gammon. A couple of the group had problems with there food too, no excused when it wasnt busy. The manager on at the time was helpful and corrected one of the meals by cooking it herself and showing the kitchen how to do it. Kudos to her but come on Wetherspoons it's not Michelin star cooking it's a steak and chips. Had high hopes here I mean the other spoons we have been too have been good but this was a letdown. On top of that we were put in a long row of tables so the family was unable to talk more than a couple of people down, if it wasnt busy then sure we could of been out together better?

This is a bright and spacious venue. The service is efficient. The food was cooked well and both meals arrived at the same time. Although there isn't any on site parking there is a public pay and display close by. This charges £1 for up to two hours stay.

The white wine was cloudy so couldn't be sold. the bar staff were very efficient however the other staff were not very helpful and didn't even bother to clean the table . Normally I don't like Wetherspoon's as they lack an atmosphere, but this particular Weatherspoon's does. There is a very large crowd typically in there which can lead to certain meals becoming unavailable as the day moves on. If I had one complaint it is that the bar staff those who shout the loudest first as opposed to being aware of the order in which people arrive at the bar looking for service. Named in honour of the local lifeboat it is decorated in a distinct nautical theme with some portholes used to good effect. The rear seating area has a view into the kitchen over the counter where the food orders are collected by the busy staff. We found a pleasant feel to the place and enjoyed our cool drinks on a hot afternoon. Worth a visit.

Lovely little spoons in a great little town. Perfect place for a few quiet ones or a cheap meal. The layout is vast and there is a good array of inside and outside seating. With some cosy corner tables for a slightly more quiet setting. Atmosphere is that of a typical spoons although because of the area you get a sense of local community in this particular spoons. The punters seem friendly and the staff are polite and welcoming. The phone reception isn't the best so ordering on the app is a bit hit and miss. The bar however is a good size so it's not too difficult to get up and order there. You will be spotted quickly and due to it being a more quiet spoons you won't be waiting long. Toilets are clean although a little far away being tucked upstairs out of the way. Breakfast service was quick apart from one of us in the party. But nothing to bad that couldn't be put down to bad luck or coming on a 'bad day'. We had a few drinks one evening and back a few days later for breakfast. Can't comment on the main menu but I've never experienced a spoons that's sub par from any others. This was the first time I had order a spoons breakfast. It was a good price and I will be having one again next time I'm nearby and in need of some morning grub.

This is a really nice place with great prices on food and drinks. My girl and I ordered the Eggs Benny and Egg Royal, but they just ran out of salmon so I opted to get the EB as well, as my girl and I are huge EB fans and like to try different establishments variations. These were okay, the bred was a little bland and the egg was overcooked but the hollandaise sauce was really good. I enjoy when rocket is added as well, which Wetherspoons does. They have an active fireplace which we sat by, and it added to the pleasant ambiance. I plan to go back and try the Royal, and other dishes I saw being eaten by surrounding patrons, they looked delicious. The staff was very nice as well.

We've been coming here for a while now. There''s no doubt it's one of the better Wetherspoons (Southport's could lean a thing or two!). Last summer, it was always busy when we visited on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon but we never had a problem getting served. There were always sufficient staff. However, today was different. No more than two behind the bar and customers having to wait. Are the good days over?

Having a couple of real ales but not eating. Beer in much better condition than when I last came, not long after they opened, and had to send one back due to very poor quality. Good choice as well. Think the initial opening rush has now settled down and the staff can cope much better and are becoming more experienced. CAMRA 50p vouchers make the beer very affordable (£1.99 per pint).

Tim Martin has done well for himself and done Formby proud. The venue used to be the old Conservative Club. I visited it about 5 years ago and found it depressing. Bowling green at the back but the place was empty and neglected , run down with a couple of old people using the facilities. The atmosphere and décor was one of decay. That site now is a pleasant venue to meet and chat, have a drink dine or have a tea/ coffee. Service is good , quick and the food is hot and very reasonably priced. The name of the "Lifeboat" is also a nod to it's past, because Formby gave the UK it's first lifeboat station. The station had been resituated in Southport, about 1840, and a new station is now being built at present, opposite the existing RNLI boathouse. Opening in 2019.
