Reviews of The Pilgrim
N. L.
I personally really struggle with this pub. It's old, great location, you have to go down stairs into what is a really large & feels like a cellar room & bar. It's always quite dark, but upstairs is a narrow Court yard with plenty of outside seating off the Road & somewhere to enjoy the sun.
It has at least four cask ale pumps but I am yet to get a pint of cask here!
It's clearly popular it's well worth a visit but if your preference is similar to mine you might be disappointed.
J. R.
If you like something a bit different you'll like this place. Good beer choice and set up as a music venue.
H. B. G.
I love this pub 😍 ok it's not up there I'm terms of high class wine bar style but it's a classic 👌 good feel old school like Boozer with a welcoming feeling and they have kept the old features of that area, cobbled Street leading in and part of the Old stable if I'm not mistaken 😀

Ahhh The Pilgrim. A Liverpool institution like The Swan for meeting your mates before going to the Krazyhouse back in the day. Frozen in time including some of the customers but there's a mix of people passing through. It's rough and ready (ladies don't expect the two toilets to be anything more than functional, and watch the door on the right cos it sticks) but that's its charm. The decor isn't fancy and neither are the drinks, no poncey tenner cocktails just decent standard bevs. No table service or QR codes, just go the bar when you want a drink.
You can get a booth, shove something on the jukebox and bed in for the night. There's a small outside seating area at the front, mostly occupied by smokers and it fills up quickly. Watch the stairs from there down to inside if you've had a few.
Staff are friendly and so is the atmosphere. Long live The Pilgrim.
D. B.
Always a favourite and staffed by people I'm happy to see on my travels too. I literally have nothing but good to say about the Pilgrim and never have
R. B.
Great Pub, been coming to this bar since I was a student. Still cheap and the music is still great 🎶
B. C.
Best little pub in Liverpool with a fine selection of cask ales and very friendly staff and manager.
R. M.
Always a great place to pop in for a drink. Good staff and nice atmosphere due to the decor and customers. Drinks are pretty much same prices as everywhere apart from the bottle of Carlsberg deal they've been doing for years which is great.
Only real problem from here is the toilets are not the nicest of places.
G. H.
Love this little place in the Georgian quarter. The basement bar has great feel and plays great music.
W. R.
Excellent pub if you’re in town and looking for a good meal and a pint.
B. O.
Traditional style English pub with a good selection of ales that are well kept.
S. G.
I love the jukebox feature. Friendly atmosphere and very affordable.
D. V.
Suggested by a friend, this bar is a good place to chill on weekdays and to have a pint. Good crowd and one of the best prices in Liverpool for drinks. Best part about it, one pound beer.
j. x.
Excellent hidden gem of a pub in Liverpool city centre! 😍 Unique and stylish building style! :D Nice atmosphere! :D Helpful and friendly staff! :D Highly recommended! 👍
P. S.
Student pub. Reasonable beer but very little decent stout.
S. O.
Great little pub,l with a unique vibe.
L. D.
Love this place. Seems to be the only place in the city with reasonably priced drinks! Great atmosphere and the juke box makes me want to always pop in.
J. T. M.
Fantastic pub great atmosphere on match days
S. K.
Great pub. Can't go wrong with the £1.99 pint 👌
J. H.
A very busy, warm and welcoming pub. Most of the clientele are local students, and a few locals who come down for a couple of pints after work or to catch a bit of footy. Usually decent music on and a good outside drinking area which is sheltered. Good selection behind the bar and often have a good variety of interesting ales on.
k. c.
Brilliant pub nice friendly atmosphere , bar staff were friendly an helpful with your orders highly recommended
P. B.
Boss little pub off the beaten track, have many quirky drinks, staff friendly.
S. W.
One of the best little pubs you will find in Liverpool
R. S.
I've been coming here since university over 10 years ago. Great pub set in what appears to be an old stable. Fantastic atmosphere on busy nights. The crowd who visit seems very mixed these days, lots of older students, locals and indie types. Reasonable prices, even if getting served at the small bar is rough work on a Saturday night. I've eaten here once in the time I've been coming. Never again.
J.
Forever a haunt that I was inclined to visit when I was a student. Don't let this put you off though! There's a diverse range of folk that frequent this pub and it's always a safe place to have a drink. Forever a classic.
S. M.
Superb pub, full of charm and character hidden down a side street off Leece St
A. W. #.
Always very busy this place so waiting for drinks and the sticky tables are the only downfalls. Can barely hear people speak but the atmosphere is brilliant. I haven't been here in a long while but my mates always come here for a catch up and a few pints.
R. R.
Great service & such a good place for a drink and good music
T. D.
One of my favorite pubs in Liverpool, its a little out the way but that one of its good point. When its busy its because the a good reason to be there. So open mic nights or just because its time for a drink.
With a long table in the middle and lots of booths around the outside the a very good chance you come away from this pub with a new friend. Function room upstairs that i never seen but heard all good about it. Great juke box and nice beer and cider on offer.
A. S.
Can't go wrong with this bar. Such a cool place to relax and have a drink with friends. The variety of music they play there is fantastic, something for all tastes.
S. J.
This is the pilgrim and not the cathedral.....juke box every table( not working) nose dived a bit from 2 year ago but who or what venue hasnt, would i call again , yes.
J. S.
5 stars because it hasn't changed since 1989!! Don't expect fancy drinks, just perfect nostalgia. Sad the Duke boxes no longer work but staff are fab and the floor is still sticky....perfect!!!
H. F.
Great staff and drink prices for a quick stop of rounds or a night out
C. F.
Beer not the cheapest in the area, although you can get bottles of Carlsberg for a little more than a quid. Usually a good crowd, perhaps a little more 'studenty', but always a good atmosphere.
M. B.
Lively atmosphere, plenty of character. Slightly shabby but strangely it adds to the charm of the place. Cheap and cheerful place to meet friends for a first drink.
P. Y.
Went there for nostalgic reasons, used to frequent the Pilgrim 30+ years ago ....it hasn't changed! Still an eclectic and friendly bunch a better selection of beers than the old day's, made for an enjoyable evening.
A. H.
I love the Pil and have been going for years. Only gripes are as follows.
1. Taking Africa by Toto off the jukebox is an outrage.
2. It's a damned shame that it closes so early.
3. Why it cost the same (£3.80. £1.25 of which is for the house spirit) for a single gin + mixer and a double gin + mixer is beyond my meagre comprehension.
To be fair though these aren't massive issues. It's still my first port of call.
J. P.
Cheap drinks, good atmospheric. Best for students and the artsy crowd. A nice way to start your pub crawl
M. O.
It seems that one of the waiters refused to serve anything to two Spaniards recently, that's unacceptable. I am Spanish and I went to this pub without any problem some years ago, nice place, but I would really appreciate if the manager could have a word with the staff to understand what happened
J. M.
Revisited my student days and hasn't changed a bit. Too busy to get a booth unfortunately. Could have done with staying open later, an 11pm closing time is a bit strange for a Friday and considering it was still very busy
L. N.
Favourite pub in Liverpool!! 2.50 for a double and slushy, can't complain. Fantastic atmosphere every time and the owner is very friendly.
A. E.
Always a great time in the Pilgrim. Great place to visit for the football and booths
I. D.
My lovely local, I've seen plays here and had wild nights out for years, this cozy rock and roll dive bar is definitely on if my favourite in liverpool, up to date June box, and sneaky triples, cheap ( but not gross) pints, super friendly bar staff and has been well managed for year by a great guy, I've had some moments on the benches of the outdoor seating area which is not fancy but comfortable and you can fit many friends around it, 1pound beer bottles is now 1.20 pounds but apparently you get larger bottles, great facilities and great atmosphere x
D. J.
Proper authentic pub/venue with tons of character and a nice atmosphere. Sit outside in summer too. Also upstairs on a Monday there's Improv drop in
M. S.
One of the best bars in the city, especially if you're a poor/broke student. Great selection of drinks and a friendly atmosphere.
A. S.
Super friendly staff, cheap drinks on certain items. Just got to know what to order, nice sitting area outside and is out of the way enough to not get annoyingly crowded.
B. A.
One of the best rock pubs in Liverpool. They have a decent selection of cask ales. The prices are okay too, £2.50 for double vodka slushies for instance.
K. D.
Used to frequent the Pilgrim in the 90s and loved it then. In 2018 it's hardly changed, and is still a very pleasant pub with a friendly vibe, and with reasonably priced drinks:-) Am looking forward to returning:-)
S. H.
It was great here. Made new friends. Their pirate drink made me go a bit nuts actually, but hey it's piratey and turned me into a pirate so can't complain
D. L.
Nice pub, no idiots, gets the horns from me.
R. W.
Not to much of a wait and friendly staff also. Love coming here!!
J.
My favorite pub in Liverpool. It's not the poshest or the fanciest but it is a great traditional pub which has very reasonably-priced drinks and a great selection of songs on the playlist.
G. F.
Really nice place with live music on Sundays. Friendly place if you want to go out with friends for a casual night.
B. F.
As studenty as it gets but not a bad thing in this pub. Reasonable drinks selection and good vibes.
A. P.
Cheap good music excellent atmosphere. Hasn't changed for 10 years best place for a laugh with mates in town
M. P.
A proper boozer, cheap and cheerful and always a good atmosphere. Tends to attract a better crowd than the pretentious hipster bars.
R. W.
Great little bar with both indoor and outdoor areas. Drinks are reasonable priced with a wide range to choose from.
H. S.
Fantastic staff and a pub with bags of character. One of the most chilled pubs I've ever been to and will definitely be visiting again
C. W.
Decent gaff, top smoking area, great staff and decent price
I.
The service is good but there are much cheaper options in the local area
K.
Cheap and cheerful. Gets packed at the weekend. Great music and atmosphere but it's a shame it closes so early!
N. E.
A nice classic pub with good space and a good atmosphere, the outside seating was kinda bad but they were tight for space with it
S. K.
Brilliant little place, characterful and friendly. I've been going to the pilgrim since I was old enough to drink.
This isn't a classy place but it's still boss!
A. S.
Super friendly staff, cheap drinks on certain items. Just got to know what to order, nice sitting area outside and is out of the way enough to not get annoyingly crowded.

Friendly staff, decent setting, all good.

Visited here for the live music, which takes place in a room upstairs. While not the biggest venue it has a great beer selection and fantastic offers.
E. B.
Great pub and staff, more younger type pub due to bands playing there.
G. U.
A really friendly atmosphere, however, depending whose behind the bar depends on how friendly your service will be.
K. M.
It's dirt cheap, unpretentious and very laid back. Great dive bar in a cool location.

Un pedacito de España en Liverpool. El local es estupendo. Moderno y acogedor. El camarero súper atento. La comida muy buena. La merluza estaba espectacular. Tierna y jugosa. Buenísima. Pero las raciones son pequeñas. 3/4 de alcachofa, muy buena, pero es alcachofa. Hay que ser un poco más generosos. El alioli no ha visto el ajo.
