p. t.Dog friendly pub. Made to feel really welcome. Msin meals amazing. Pud selection disappointing as too much dairy free. Great there is an option but need to have both. Eg proper custard as well as dairy free.
K. I.This place was amazing! We had so good experiences there, the staff was very kind, nice and helpfull. It was the first time for us with my partner to be there, and we needed some help, they was really kind and the hospitality was excellent! We will definitely go back, as Formby is beautiful, The Pinewood is really friendly and it's also so close to the Beach. Prices are fine, and the place is clean and the environment is very good, with good quality foods with very friendly people! We would recommend it to everyone! ☺️

I will recommend it to everyone!
P. h.The Formby Pinewoods national trust nature reserve is great. It is a sanctuary for rare red squirrels and leads down through the woods to Formby beach. The squirrels only bother getting out of their dreys on warm days but are very unafraid of humans when they do. You might also see pheasants and a number of other birds. Few facilities and if you are not a National Trust member you have to pay to park. This is primarily a wildlife reserve but it is a great place to walk your dog and just enjoy an area of unspoilt nature.
A. R.Always take the dog here after our walks with the dog. Staff are always friendly, I believe it was a chap called Al that was cooking that day. Food was lovely. Will be back again. Thanks

We all had the turkey dinner. Thick slice of meat with all the trimmings. Very nice. The staff where very attentive and friendly. Will visit again.

Food was lovely and a free house as well serving good range of beers, wines and spirits as well as soft drinks. Shows that if pubs do what they can best then we don't need Wetherspoons.

V. S.This was our first meal out. Sat in the car to look at their menu online, downloaded the mypub app and starting to add our food choices.Then found a table outside(need a table number to complete order), paid and waited. Drinks were bought over really quickly. Food was surprisingly good, triple burger with cheese and bacon, fish n chips and a kids meal. We really enjoyed our meal, the beef patties were juicy in the burgers and the fish was lightly battered, not oily and fish was really fresh and thick. Manager and staff all lovely. The meal was 50% which was a really pleasant surprise too!! Thanks, we all enjoyed our meals.

We attended the weekend of the 25th September, as the family wanted to meet locally.
What a difference, the staff and management are attentive and personable, it was still busy for the time of day, but the staff kept coming over to let us know what was happening, particular staff went way above and beyond to make the visit brilliant.
Cannot compliment this visit enough and I have adjusted my rating according to how I find it now.
Clearly they have vastly improved and the new management are running this place spectacularly. Simply brilliant experience and well recommended!
Food was really good and everyone was happy. 5 stars for sure! Thank you very much!!
Historic review...... from 2018.....
Im really sorry for this, but I had to queue for 10 minutes to order food, the starter came with the mains, which was just crazy, my steak was far too well done, over medium when asked for rare, and I had to go and request a steak knife to actually eat my food.
Hopefully this is just teething problems, maybe give it 6 months and give it another go, but, no rush to go back at all.
To the manager.... track pants, nike tshirt and a pair of trainers isnt what I would have expected from a professional manager... given your staff are so well presented, maybe a leaf from their book is required??
L. H.We enjoyed our food here. The waitress, Caitlin, was really friendly. Prices good. Our dog had enough room to lie down (it was midday on a sunday though without a football match on). We would return if we were at Formby beach.

M. C.Now has new manager. He and his family run a happy pub with excellent bar staff. Food is great and reasonably priced. Their daily specials are wonderful value. For example, Wednesday's is a large slice of steak pie with chips, peas and gravy plus a pint of beer or glass of wine. Cost? An amazing £5.99! Better than Wetherspoons!

Only complaint is some of the customers round the pool table area swearing is awful, no regard for children, they just don't care. We have to sit amongst them because we bring our dog.

R. R.Very slow service, so much that I had to wait 30 mins for a dessert because they forgot it. Poor menu, struggled to find a healthy option. One dish boasted 9 sausages - sounds like pure gluttony. Our meals were decent enough but service and menu let it down. Price was ok and was reflective of what was on offer.

M. C.For value for money the Pinewoods is excellent. Their daily specials are tasty and we'll cooked. We have tried two of their steak pie, chips, peas and a jug of gravy with a pint of John Smiths and a glass of white wine. Total cost only £11.95.
We haven't tried their breakfasts yet but note they are the same price as Wetherspoons.
Manager and staff are very friendly. Their efforts in making the pub a success are appreciated.

The staff are all friendly, the back ground music very pleasant , all in all a good night. We will defiantly return.

T. S.Generally good friendly service and really nice food. For some bizarre reason, when ordering drinks at the bar, a cappuccino is treated like a food order, so instead of getting your drink with everyone else, you are lucky to receive it within half an hour. This happens every time, and is a little annoying as it appears that because it takes slightly longer to make, they think it's okay to not make it straight away, but rather serve some more customers, and fit in the cappuccino at their own convenience. Also, I used to order their all day breakfast, but it came out consistently with virtually uncooked sausages. Not just a preference issue, more a do I take the risk issue. So much so that I stopped ordering it. Having said all this, food is generally good, service generally good and friendly, and without the two issues would get 4 stars, even 5 on a good day

P. H.Third visit since the refurbishment a couple of weeks ago (review date October 2017); guess that shows how happy my wife and I are to keep coming back! The new management and bar staff are very friendly and courteous. This is an unpretentious local pub with very reasonably priced beers and wines. If there are 6 or more in the party then it's possible to book a table. Would recommend the Friday night menu which includes a drink as well - very reasonable indeed.
A positive development since new management came in is that dogs are now allowed in the non-food area. This should please many local people and tourist visitors to Formby.
There are several strategically placed TV's for those who enjoy watching sport while having a drink or pub meal. Football was being screened (thankfully with the volume tuned-off) during my visit. It's hoped pub management will appreciate clientele have mixed viewing needs when it comes to sport and that a rounded view i.e. not just football, should be on offer. A bingo night and a Poker night are also part of the itinerary.
Visitors to the area come from as far afield as Manchester and beyond. The Pinewoods is well placed as being the nearest pub in Formby to the beach and the National Trust nature reserve.

S. B.I was there on Friday...a few observations.
- Food ok but less "home made" than before.
- You need more staff. Waiting more than 10 mins to place a food order is not acceptable
- Your soda machine was broken and you tried to charge for bottled drinks...which is more.
I will come again but think you need to iron out these teething problems.
