J. B.Great Pub!! Friendly atmosphere and great for kids and dogs, quick bar service too! food is brilliant but recommend book in advance to avoid long wait times, they will always gladly feed you but can only work as fast as what the food cooks. A party walked in on Easter Sunday and wanted food but wasn’t happy of the wait time, staff were honest on how long it would take which is all you can ask for especially on Easter… but basically if it’s a nice day don’t turn up and expect to be fed straight away. Definitely best pub in the area!
L. K.I had the steak and stout pie. I asked for chips instead of mash. I have to say, it was lovely. Cooked to perfection, served hot and on a heated plate. Oh and plenty of gravy!!!!

B. G.This is a lovely place to bring children due to their play area with a good range of play equipment from zip line, slides, monkey bars to swings plus more. The outdoor seating area is nice, comfy and modernised, Has a nice range of beer, wines ciders and soft drinks to enjoy on a nice sunny day. The food is really good but downfall is if its busy, you have a long waiting time for food but is worth the wait.

Would have been 3 stars for food but the staff were lovely, attentive and obviously having a tough time with cancellations. So collectively we decided 4 stars was fair.

Staff outside were somewhat lethargic. Food was very nice when it was served but apart from Fish it was quite small portions! Play area great for children and we would definitely go again but 'more chips please'.

A. H.Visited this place for the first time this weekend and I have to say they have made brilliant steps to follow the current government guidelines, sanitized on entry and details taken and our table was set aside from others. Service from the front of house staff was great, very friendly. The only thing that disappointed was the food. The menu wasn't clear so when I'd ordered the pie, I was under the impression it came with what was stated above (chips) as it came out I saw it was mash, I simply asked for it to be swapped for some chips. The lovely young lady went into the kitchen to ask the chef but came back out to advise they wouldn't swap it as they had already 'done' the mash. I've worked in restaurants and this is never usually a problem. The pie didn't have much filling and I didn't really eat the mash, my husbands burger was plain and nothing special. Would probably return for a drink as the atmosphere was nice and the staff great but wouldn't for food.

B. H.My wife ,Jenny booked a table for 1-00 pm on bank holiday Monday. The system they use for food ordering is really very good.
We ordered the chicken wings each and they where so tasty and plentiful.
I had the mixed grill and my wife had the rump steak. All of the meals brought to the table by very pleasant and helpful staff. Overall, I do recommend the Running Horses and will be coming back.

A. R.Excellent lunch, lovely staff
K. D.Nice pub on the banks of the Leeds Liverpool Canal. The service at the moment (with Covid restrictions) is predominantly outside seating. The Guinness and lagers are cool and refreshing and the outside seating area is quiet and accommodating despite being next to a minor road.
One note of improvement: The QR code for NHS check-in is compulsory, as expected, but the scan card is inside the property through two sets of doors, which is not comfortable due to the proximity of other customers.
Placing the QR sheet next to the door on the outside of the building, with instructions to scan, would avoid this issue.
All in all, a lovely pub to stop by at, especially if you're a narrowboater needing some refreshment.

However locals bringing a pony into the outside drinking area is a bit too much especially when not prepared with clean up 🤔

m. h.Really nice pub. Nice beer garden kids loved the park. What ruined it was the lack of organisation around the the place. It felt like it was all the staff members first day with no manager on shift to guide them. I over heard a customer complaining as she wanted all her food together at the same time and the staff members response was "one of the bar staff was supposed to go into the kitchen and tell the chef's but they didn't so" just really bad customer service. It was bank holiday weekend the bar was really busy with one staff member serving it was terrible organisation. Staff training deffinatley in order or rotas to be completed in advance checking for when the kids are off ensuring there is enough staff on. Could be a really good place just need to get the basics right first.
J. R.Nice inside, although we did sit outside because we had 3 children with us, we were a party of 14, good play area for kids. Staff worked very hard and we're pleasant and friendly, there just weren't enough staff and took ages to get served and waited ages to get our food, which was average. We felt sorry for a very few staff because it was so busy and they were run off their feet, thank you to the for being so cheery, when you were clearly so understaffed
N. H.The Running Horses is an old country inn which I used to drink in many years ago. WHAT!!! a difference it is now, it has been tastefully refurbished
and very modern looking but still
maintains that old country inn charm.

there is not a long wait, I am glad I
rediscovered this again, if you like excellent pub fayre then give this
inn a try you won't be disappointed

G. S.Very nice pub next to the canal in Lydiate. Lots of seating outside and a big kids play area. Food was excellent and reasonably priced around £10 for a good sized portion. Sides were around £2-3 and also a good size and very tasty.

M. S.Lovely Pub, I haven't been there since I was about 17/18.
Just be careful if it is wet, I slid on the mossy paving as, I came off the car park. My left foot slid about a foot or so, twisted my back but thought nothing about it however, I mentioned it to a young barman and barmaid, in case someone just doesn't slide but lands flat on their back and cracks their heads. I'm in agony now though.
P. T.Recommend to eat here . Had lunch for 2 gammon was a bit tough, friendly staff removed the meal for another. The manager came over and removed my wife’s meal while I was waiting a replacement, and said it’s important that we are together,

K. H.1/8/18. Food excellent but service left a lot to be desired. Had to ask for our desserts as we had finished our mains and were waiting for quite a while. Admittedly the outside dining area was busy and inside the pub where we were sat was empty but that should be no reason for poor service.
Do not think we will be going back and would only recommend for the food which was excellent but let down by the service.
