Reviews of The Sparrowhawk
M. M.
Even though I wasn’t as excited with the food (steak burger and roast were good but not unforgettable) as I was with the ambiance, the Sparrowhawk deserves all 5 stars for the pleasant environment, the attentive service, the decoration and the overall British countryside allure and this warm fuzzy feeling I felt dining here. Chocolate brownie was fantastic too.

In a lovely position.
Nicely decorated pub- restaurant.
Ample parking.
Greeted by friendly, efficient, helpful staff.
Good drinks selection.
Great menu, Tasty food.
Didn't break the bank.
Would recommend.
A. R.
Beautiful pub with excellent parking and outdoor seating. I went there after spending a couple of hours in Ainsdale beach and the location is excellent for that. The rump steak sandwich was magnificent, probably the best steak sandwich I've had this side of the Atlantic. The chips were also spot on and the price was very reasonable (17.55 for the sandwich and a pint of Coke).
B. K.
Really nice outside area ( we were lucky to have sunny weather):) with a very friendly and welcoming staff.
Pub food that’s definitely on the better quality side and a good bar menu. Really enjoyed my time here and glad we found it as a recommendation online. Worth the walk/car drive.
Would definitely visit it again if I would be in the area!

Such a lovely pub with the friendliest staff. The decor is cosy with all the candles and fires. There are many different rooms all equally nice. They are dog friendly also which is a plus. The food was delicious and the service exceptional. The staff took the time to chat and made us feel so welcome. Rhianna who looked after us is a credit to this place. She made it such a lovely evening. However all the staff here are just so lovely and friendly. We would definitely recommend and will return. Thank you for a lovely evening.

An interesting old building with large car park. The Sparrowhawk offers a good selection of beers and food and is situated well away from busy roads so peaceful and quiet to sit outside. Although they have a dog friendly section they didn't have the space inside for our group of 7 English Bull Terriers and a couple of other dogs. The large outdoor seating/dining area meant this was not a problem as the weather was fine. Another bonus was the play area for kids with vintage tractor for bigger kids😁
A. M.
Turned up without reservation but they were able to find a table for 3 to celebrate my parents 62nd wedding anniversary!
Staff were lovely and the food was delicious!
We only went for light bites and sandwiches but it was fantastic!
A. G.
Amazing food and venue. Disable friendly, children friendly.
Near the golf club.
Exquisite venue. Lovely atmosphere and great car from the waiters
T. P.
We had a spot of lunch at the Sparrowhawk on a gloriously sunny Sunday. We cycled from Southport and sat down to a selection of tasty starters and a couple of pints. Service was great. The outdoor space is delightful for a leisurely lunch. The courgette and coconut vegan feta was a highlight - so much so we asked the staff for where to buy the tasty vegan cheese!
S. J.
Great food and really friendly staff. We enjoyed ourselves a lot here.
E. H.
Fabulous food, lovely atmosphere. Extremely accommodating and family friendly. Our waiter Lucas served our table of 11 and deserves a special mention. He was absolutely brilliant. So attentive to all of us and great with the children. We have never gone out of our way to find out a waiters name before but he really deserves the praise. We very much look forward to our next meal here.
D.
Great atmosphere, great service, great food. We went for Sunday roast and we were extremely pleased by the experience.
M. H.
Lovely building and surroundings. Food was very good. Excellent range of real ale too. Recommended.
S. N.
Came here for Sunday Lunch. Had a wonderful Christmas meal - Turkey and all the trimmings. Great atmosphere and good service.
P. L.
Really nice venue and very busy. The menu consists of home cooked classics, with a variety of meat and fish options. The food was good, but I have to say not fantastic. The burger £16.50 was quite basic, I tend to judge food by comparing it to my own 😅 and I definitely make a better burger. Unfortunately the meat was overcooked and dry. The vegetarian dish of ricotta and fennel tortellini was enjoyable. But at £18 it was a very small portion and the dish would benefit from some kind of dressing.
Service was a little slow. With our courses being served almost 40 minutes after ordering.
K. B.
What a gem of a pub to find and only 15minutes walk from the hotel in which we were staying. The Formby Hall Golf Resort made the recommendation to visit this pub with justification. The Sparrowhawk is set in spacious gardens with more than ample seating outside. The interior is just as delightful although the weather was so good we never got the opportunity to eat inside. We visited three times within three days which is an indication of what we thought of this great pub. The food selection was good and varied and matched by it's quality. The staff were attentive and welcoming. A definite must to visit when in the area.
A. T.
Great venue, very popular (aka can get busy) Highly recommend the crispy chilly squid, delicious had a taste of the beef and venison pie, definitely on my must have next time list. Had the sausage and mash really tasty but hope you have a big appetite 3 huge and meaty sausages 😋.
Their Eton mess and their profitter rolls looked amazing but I'd already eaten too much with the squid and sausages. Tea for one gives you 3 cups, can't wait to go back.
s. O.
Excellent quality food with perfect service. Great ambiance; wheelchair accessible. We were a party of four, staff were brilliant, friendly and very attentive, good choice on menu. Food was delicious. Would recommend.
G. M.
Food was excellent, if somewhat mass produced (Sunday roast stuffing gave me that impression). Staff were lovely, although perhaps a bit over-busy on Sundays and we had to ask for some extras a few times.
Really lovely setting and the feel of the place is great.
M. B.
The food here is incredible. We had a "tapas style" tea made up of 5 different starters. The hardest part was deciding what was the best out of cammenbert, prawns, black pudding, hummus they were all fantastic. The waiter service and recommendations were perfect.
Leave room for dessert wow
R. T.
INCREDIBLE SUNDAY ROASTS! Great portion, lots of options concerning meat or veg, yorkshire puddings and the gravy was on point! Service was a little slack, however they were really busy so that's not something I would say is usual of them, just to be noted maybe roster more staff for the weekend.
Otherwise will definitely return!
R. F.
First time here whilst visiting parents and can honestly say what a fantastic experience. Lovely food and even with a dog we had a great table in a nice part of the establishment. Staff are all very friendly and service cannot be faulted. Top marks.
R. C.
Had a great meal. Arrived on a Sunday afternoon without a reservation and they were fully booked. Decided to sit outside and didn't regret the decision as the food was excellent. Definitely coming back.
P. W.
The food is fantastic, not necessarily cheap but you get what you pay for which is quality. the waiting on staff can't do enough for you, friendly and welcoming, dog friendly as well which is a massive bonus. Definitely recommend!
J. J. G.
Tha meals at the Sparrowhawk are of a good quality and the service matches the food served. So from me that a two thumbs up.
M. C.
Service was very good considering we were a big group. Good atmosphere and very busy place. As it was a Sunday the menu was limited, mainly roasts. Didn't particularly enjoy my cheese, onion and potato pie.
J. D.
This is a lovely set out restaurant in its own grounds but unfortunately we found the food to be a little overpriced for what is average food. Staff work hard though and are always pleasant. We have been a couple of times in succession but won't be rushing back soon. May give it another go at some point to see if the food is better next time.
P. L.
Went twice. First time, I had fish pie and it wasn't what I expected. It was in layers in a stack and mine had collapsed and was a mush on the plate. Tasted OK though. My husbands gammon was chewy and he wasn't given a sharp knife. We tried to attract waitresses attention but it was difficult so he managed with a butter knife. The next night I had sausages and the skin was tough so had to scrape meat out. This chain has gone down in my estimation. At one time I thought it was something special. Now there isn't so much choice of food and the food that is served is nothing special. Nice surroundings though and good beer.
P. C.
Excellent Xmas meal in lovely surroundings. Staff were friendly and efficient . Huge portions, and a 'doggy box' provided for the large slice of Turkey I couldn't eat. My cat loved it!
C. C.
Visited the sparrowhawk recently for a meal, they have done everything correct in terms of following current covid guidelines, the staff were very attentive and polite. It was cold while we were eating and had dressed accordingly, however some heaters in the marquee would have been very welcome!
The food was lovely, would definitely eat here again.
E. R.
My two friends and I had a lovely time. We all had different meals and all were delicious. The service was excellent. The staff are friendly and helpful. Thank you - we'll be back!
K. S.
We were a group of 12 ladies with 2 guests arriving later, for lunch.
The service was very good and we all had excellent meals - all the plates were cleared.
They unfortunately, ran out of Brulee and the cocktails were pre-prepared.
Great location, good food and service.
S. B.
A lovely venue with food to match. Service was a little slow, but the dishes were worth the wait. And good value too. Highly recommend.
F. R.
Really nice, felt so welcome, food was top notch. Very dog friendly restaurant and bar. Well worth a trip there.
P. W.
Enjoyed a lunchtime visit, a hidden gem. Excellent food, service and location. It's not the first time here and certainly won't be the last.
C.
Very nice pub/restaurant. Great menu and in a classy setting. Staff are always friendly
J. L.
We visited for a family meal. We were given a great table and you dont feel cramped as tables have plenty of room around. Staff very friendly and we had a laugh with the guy serving us.....especially about the mini sausages. Good portions sizes indeed and food is full of flavour. My husbands fillet was cooked perfect. I recommended the mulled cider too. I would recommend.
M. L.
Beautiful pub with a great menu including a large range of a gluten free selection . Superb friendly helpful staff that make your visit super enjoyable. Such a wonderful place ❤️
M. G.
I had a lovely lunch here today. The open smoked salmon sandwich was very good, with a little salad on the plate with a tasty dressing. For dessert I had the chocolate and orange tart with passion fruit sorbet.
I have eaten there on a few occasions and always enjoyed the food.
J. D.
we celebrated my 70th Birthday here and a thoroughly enjoyable experience it was for all 7 of us. Excellent choices available on the menus, friendly, helpful staff, open fires, and a very pleasant environment. The Sparrowhawk was very busy & as a result service was a little slow; food freshly cooked to a high standard. There's a small playground next to the car-park, including a tractor to sit, plus a 5 mile walk that visitors can take to build an appetite or to work off their meals. on Well worth a visit.
L. D.
We Visited sparrowhawk thurs 29th dec late afternoon hadn’t booked it was really busy but the lady on front desk did her best to accommodate us glad she did it was so nice only had sandwiches and drinks but this is a lovely pub and the staff are so nice and professional look forward to seeing you in the new year
J. B.
Me and my husband came for his birthday on Saturday.
We had the garlic and chilli prawns and vetmenese ribs.
They were both full of flavour and the ribs were tender 😋.
We had the shoulder of lamb and the burger for our mains again, delicious, the burger was huge, and the lamb was melt in your mouth. The salad and veg was a nice size portion too.
We had bread and butter pudding and the rhubarb and custard tart for desert. Amazing flavours and generous portions.
Would recommend and would go again
A. B.
Fabulous food, good menu with lots of choice, served quickly
A. r.
Staff were really professional & pleasant. Surroundings were great, the beer was great and the food was absolutely beautiful with decent sized portions
n.
Pleasant ,a bit pricey. Food ok, a bit plain , sandwiches and posh burgers. I think it's well attended because of the place itself.
Y. M.
My partner and I had our dinner here yesterday and brought our dog along. The staff were all absolutely Lovely!! We felt welcomed and really looked after. I don't know the name of the lady who waited on our table but she was really nice and friendly and she is a credit to the sparrowhawk
D. K.
Fantastic menus..staff super welcome. And stunning building and location
M. S.
We love eating out. This is a fantastic pub/eatery. Fantastic food and service. The Sparrowhawk is has high quality furnishings, lovely gardens. You won’t find many better.
C. S.
Really nice food, great service and great atmosphere. A bit more expensive than other places however justified by the superior quality. Worth it for a treat or special occasion.
F. c.
Lovely dog friendly pub, cut above the rest, great staff nothing too much trouble nice for a snack or full meal, food is very special, one of our favourite places, we went New Years Day, possibly a little over booked, staff run off their feet, a little too cosy next to other diner's for comfort, which is unusual so will avoid Bank Holidays next time, understand that they have to " make hey, while the sun shines" , but not a day for me !
G. M.
Loved it. Separate area for the dog intolerant too.
Awesome food. Great portion sizes. Staff cannot be faulted. Great atmosphere
l. R. R.
My compliments to the chef, I had the venison and bacon pie and I have never tasted pastry so delicious. Beautiful surroundings and lovely decor.
p. h.
The staff were amazing and took care of the birthday cake and even sang for us. The food was delicious. Can't wait to go back
J. C.
Friendly welcome on arrival with friends from work. Great service and lovely food. Will definitely be visiting again!
L. P.
Busy venue. Tasty food. Some staff a bit over- attentive for my liking, but other people appreciate that style of service
G. C.
Fantastic pub restaurant. Excellent food and service. Full marks for being really dog friendly too. Highly recommended
M. F. J.
Pre-pandemic, the Sparrow Hawk had a selection of lounge chairs, where if you didn't want a meal at a table, you could go, and have a coffee, or a glass of wine or a pint of beer and sit back and chat.
These are gone. Replace by tables, with menus, and the unspoken expectation that you'll be ordering a meal.
I felt uncomfortable, ordering a coffee and a glass of wine. And I couldn't relax. I assume they want to maximise revenue, but I think they've missed the point.
M. S.
Place is beautiful. The menu fantastic and the food was superb. Pups loved it as well. Will be back soon 👍
J. B.
Excellent food. Fantastic staff. Lovely surroundings. Brilliantly dog friendly.
M. G.
Stunningly good food! Very highly recommended, great staff and a beautiful setting too.
K. G.
Came for lunch, ordered starters, but waited ages for mains, after nearly 45mins asked the waitess, she went away and came back 10 mins later as we were about to cancel with our mains, an explanation or apology would have been nice.
J. T.
Good food, well presented, fair price & decent service
R. A.
Lovely meal, service excellent. Really enjoyed our evening.
S. W.
Absolutely gorgeous food, a lovely venue and top notch service. Our new go-to!
P. R.
Regular visitor. Food is always lovely and staff very attentive
M. H.
I really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. There's no music playing so chatting is easy, the staff are friendly and there is plenty of seating (including wheelchair accessible). I adored the hake dish I had for main and the lemon roulade was delicious. Will be going back.
C. B.
Very friendly staff, beautiful building and well kept, clean and tidy. We only had a pudding but it was so good. I would highly recommend a visit
N. L.
Amazing. Food was great, and the staff were lovely to us and our pup
D. T.

K. M.
Second time here. First time pre covid was very good. This time sitting outside in the sunshine .....marvellous 🌞
Thoughtful and courteous service really nice people. Very decent food. Good ales.
Clean very clean. I could continue in the same vein. Try it yourself. You will be happy you did.
K. S.
Impressed with the settings and overall atmosphere. The service was good and the food excellent.
h. b.
Crispy beef salad was delicious, packed full of flavour! There is a good choice to choose from on the menu and staff are very accommodating. Lovely atmosphere and great service.
J. Y.
We called ahead and booked a table for four of us and our dogs. Arrived to find many other dogs happily ensconced with their owners. Staff are very friendly and it's a lovely cosy place. Food is good too
C. G.

S. R.

K. K.
A lovely place to go for Sunday lunch, both the inside and outside very comfortable and well set out. The service was excellent and the menu had an interesting and varied selection.
B. C.
Excellent range of lunch choices. I had whitebait starters & a generous small portion of real ham, egg & chips - delicious. Gents toilets well cared for too!
S. K.
Absolutely fabulous. My sister and I had the perfect table, wonderful attentive staff and our meal was sublime.
We shall definitely be returning!
J. P.
We went on a Friday afternoon, and despite a short wait, we enjoyed a wonderful unhurried meal. The lamb was perfectly cooked and was melt in the mouth (I know it's a cliché). The service was prompt and friendly. This was our second visit, and I've been recommending it to friends. We'll definitely be back to work our way through their impressive menu!
R. 1.
Great outdoor space. Good selection of guest beer and a very nice bite to eat in the homely restaurant.
M. C.
Very nice my daughter loves it their, also nice to take my dog Jack with.xxxxx
G. B.
Great service, lovely food and wonderful atmosphere
G. S.
Lovely venue with good access and parking, good menu although Tdh menu a bit restrictive on choices but fine price wise.
I had Prawn Cocktail to pay homage to my classic pub roots and the wife had the Parsnip Soup both were very good and tasty and they did not skimp on the prawns in the Cocktail. Marie Rose sauce was tasty and crisp lettuce topped off with brown triangle bread and butter.
We both went for the Christmas Dinner, Turkey was moist, and very tasty with sprouts, roast potatoes and a creamy carrot and turnip but the star was the gravy which was extremely tasty and pulled all the meal together. I am not a lover of red cabbage which was the only item left on the plate at the end... The main very good.
Dessert we both had the sticky toffee pudding which was very tasty and topped off a good classic Christmas time meal.
Service was good, and good choice of drinks. We will be back to try it again out of holiday season.
Lovely venue that carries good character in a lovely setting.
Well worth a visit....👍
P. Y.
We went for a Sunday roast. Flawless service and food. Well recommended.
j. s.
Excellent, food was delicious and very reasonable and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
M. L.
Just had dinner to celebrate a friends birthday. Not visited before, lovely welcome, good service, first class food in pleasant surroundings. Good portions and reasonable prices. Will definately visit again. Thank you to all staff 😁
M. B.
Fabulous food in a beautiful building served with attentive staff what more could you ask for. I had the cheese pie and my wife had lamb both simply stunning. Loads of attention for our little fur ball. We will be back
K. E.
What a fantastic venue this is food staff setting and atmosphere all 5 star + would highly recommend the Sparrowhawk to ANYONE
R. M.
Great food, great menu, great environment.
M. F.
Absolutely outstanding. Great service. Fab food. When they mistakenly brought me lamb instead of nut roast they not only willingly sorted the mistake but then took my main dish off the bill because of the "inconvenience". Top class service. Lovely place. Book early!
N. P.
A wonderful setting to celebrate my birthday. The staff didn't know it was a family meal for my birthday, yet we were treated to a delicious meal with impeccable service. A great menu with a good selection for vegetarians, fish eaters and carnivores alike. Despite the high quality of food and drink, the cost was below that of similar high class restaurants. A lovely setting for a celebration or quality meal.
J. c.
More places should be like this, friendly, attentive staff, great food, nice to dogs
M. D.
Amazing food, great beer, dog friendly. Will go again.
B. T.
I enjoyed a lovely family lunch at the Sparrow Hawk on Tuesday at lunch time. I had the honey roast ham with chips and salad. It was delicious and of very high quality. The Sticky Toffee Pudding for desert was delicious. The sponge was soft, the toffee sauce and vanilla ice cream went well with it.
The restaurant was very clean and all the staff are very friendly and the level of customer service and care is if very high quality. I have autism and I felt very comfortable in the restaurant not to noisy, it is calm
G. D.
Really lovely spot. Bit pricey, but quality food and drink making it totally worth it
L. R.
Great menu. Dog friendly. Shade and sun. Thoroughly recommend.
J. M.
Meals were absolutely outstanding and the service & staff were impeccable & attentive.
J. W.
Great location. The food was very good. The service was first rate, with all the staff going out of their way to provide a great experience.
Many thanks
M.
Loved it. Great place for lunch. More expensive than others but the service and quality of food are worth the price.
A. P.
A beautiful establishment - lovely service and wonderful food. We will be re-visiting.
j.
I love the Sparrowhawk food is fantastic, generally the staff are great, although sometimes eating outside compared to the indoor seated service you find the service is a lot worse. i.e ordering at the bar can take a long time when they have only one person serving drinks and taking orders. You have to hunt down a menu. There are vouchers for every meal you purchase but you have to ask for this its not a given they will give it to you when you pay. They don't offer water for the table and if you need a high chair you have to get it no one will bring it to you. Would have given 5 stars but for these issues.
On the plus side portions are fantastic and food is beautiful.
R. S.
Delicious spot! Friendly staff and great quality food.
S. C.
Lovely setting, great food, brilliant service! Thank you 😊
T. M.
Lovely food, nice friendly staff. Excellent!
E. B.
Whole experience and food was amazing made a big fuss of my daughter making her laugh she is Autistic very very special night 🌃
c. f.
Always good food and fairly busy at lunch time
Prices have gone up I had crispy beef salad which is fantastic but pricey for what you get
P. W.
Good friendly staff, menu and food excellent in a relaxed atmosphere
P. M.
Lovely food and very attentive staff.
K. C.
Attended for pictures prior to a prom. Lovely venue food snd drink was fantastic. I would highly recommend.
C. W.
What an amazing trip to this lovely Pub I had. I was very impressed with the service and quality of food received. What a lovely bartender I was served by too, didn't quite catch his name but he had glasses and ginger hair. Had a lovely chat and he was very welcoming. Will definitely be returning when I'm back in the area due to the quality of service received!
T. C.
Went to the Sparrowhawk this evening with my sister. Nice to see it fairly busy in spite of Covid scares. Staff courteous efficient professional and friendly as always. The food here has always been good but both the menu and the food itself seems to have gone up to a whole new level. The Venison and mallard factor was tremendous and the cheese pie just amazing. Something on the menu for everyone. Thank you for a great evening x
A. K.
First visit to the Sparrowhawk and won't be our last. The staff were friendly and attentive with quick and efficient service. The menu catered for all tastes and the food we ordered was very tasty and plentiful. It was very busy for a January midweek lunch but we always felt safe with plenty of room between tables.
A. B.
Nice pub, staff friendly and dog friendly inside. Massive too. I had a cheese and potato pie with veg which was nice but no way worth nearly £15. Roast dinners pretty expensive at £16-£20 and only ok (roast potatoes were rock hard and had to be sawed through). Starters were probably the worse though - quite poor presentation - chipolatas in a honey mustard sauce were just a pile of sausages in a small dish with some watery liquid (and barely cooked too). Some of the starters are over £7 so you would expect a bit of an effort.
So nice place for a drink and a chat and outside space is lovely but I wouldn't recommend eating here.
D. B.
Lovely few hours spent in The Sparrowhawk. Menu always offers something different and the food was amazing. The Salmon noodles was ridiculously good. The bar has a wide selection of beer, lagers, ales, wines and spirits. Lowenbrau on tap is a big bonus though! Restaurant was busy throughout with tables coming and going. Staff had to work very hard covering lots of tables so massive credit to them for never missing a step.
W. P.
We had a most enjoyable afternoon meal at the Sparrowhawk this afternoon. The staff were lovely and very obliging, the meal was delicious and non of us could fault any part of it. We all had different options from the festive menu and it was presented beautifully and tasted lovely. Thank you to everyone involved. We will be returning soon and highly recommend visiting.
c. c.
Went down on Sunday with the family. Decent but some constructive feedback : chicken was delicious but small plate portion for a main and I would've like more than a thimble of sauce and some spuds. Kids' fish goujons bland and mostly very crunchy batter. My wife complained nor shared so I don't know what hers was like.
Triple chocolate brownie absolutely fabulous, I'd fight a giant-half-chicken-half-squirrel for another one.
C. D.
Fantastic food and great staff. Always have a great meal every time we go.
J. W.
Great food especially the Thai Red fish curry, the coconut rice was the best 👌 My wife had the biggest fish and chips which she told me was piping hot, and really good. Great service, cannot fault it 🙂
R. S.
Lovely location, good food, very pleasant staff. I enjoyed my meal there.
C. O.
Great beer and food. Not overpriced
J. E.
Excellent food with a very good choice on the menu, also excellent service and atmosphere. Would definitely recommend.
P. C.
This is a lovely well maintained restaurant.
Good menu with much choice, food delicious, staff friendly.
Light and airy rooms. Well laid out.
Good parking facilities.
Most importantly, you are not rushed through your meal.
Good value for money.
D. M.
Lovely place to eat. 5 of us eating different meals all excellent. If you have a dog it is dog friendly. If you don't like dogs you might want to give it a miss based on my last visit.
S. B.
Large gastro pub. Great atmosphere and service was good.
P. T.
Great location with nice reasonably priced food and drink. A great place for lunch; always busy.
N. B.
Been twice, many months apart, and both times it was excellent.
J. W.
Perfect dining room with great atmosphere. Very friendly, efficient staff. Whole thing made for a really great evening celebrating our daughters birthday and food was delicious. Will definitely be returning for more lovely evenings.
J. J.
Fabulous, gave us table on half hour notice food was top notch Thank you
A. O.
Just had a fantastic meal here. I had duck pancakes for starter and beef bourguignon for main and my partner had whitebait for starter and lamb shoulder for main. All the meals were extreamly tasty. Great gin bar also. Staff are really good. It's set in a lovely setting with lots of greenery around. Weather is a bit pants today, but in the sun would be lovely to sit outside and just have a beer 🍺
S. W.
Good food and service in nice surroundings. Quite expensive for what you get which makes it not the best value.
d.
Dog friendly. Good cooking. Friendly staff.
H. H.
Four of us booked but we arrived really too early , however, the lovely young lady at the reception area shuffled things around so we could sit . The staff were very polite and attentive , we each had a different meal ,we didn’t wait long at all , all meals arrived together ,were piping hot and absolutely delicious . It’s a beautiful building with lovely grounds , I highly recommend you pay a visit , we will definitely eat there again . Well done all staff at this lovely establishment .👏🏻

Had a day out on Tuesday 23rd March in Formby and wanted somewhere nice to eat so decided to stop by the sparrow hawk after looking at a few places, the menu stood out to us the most, upon arrival we was greeted by a lovely lady who got us a table and was served by a wonderful young lady, the service was great and the food was amazing, the presentation as well as the taste was perfect would definitely recommend!
A. R.
A very comfortable well set out restaurant. I had a cheese onion and potato pie with piping hot chips done to a t. My partner a roast beef and Yorkshire pudding. The service was excellent Definitely will return
And I did. Still excellent
K. P.
Bread for our sandwiches wasn't fresh, main waitress was bordering on rude. Not once were we asked if our food was ok. Scones weren't that fresh either.
Restaurant area and toilets were very clean.
J. F.
Excellent pub good food and service
m. s.
Visited Sparrowhawk while staying at Formby Hall Spa, as it is literally a 5 minute walk away. Arrived seated in a lovely old building. But then the food started to arrive, 5 King prawns swimming in garlic butter in a tiny pot. Now I'm not tight but you expect a decent Sirloin steak for £25.95, asked for medium, but when both mains arrived, my steak was as tough as old boots, informed a staff member who quickly took it away. My partner had finished her main 12 minutes later when my new steak arrived, it was a lot better but really disappointed eating alone after spending £103 on a romantic night, not even an apology, free ice-cream.,nothing. ☹️
J. H.
Great pub, good gluten free menu
I. A.
Lovely gastro pub in attractive surroundings with an engaging atmosphere. Attentive service supporting excellent food which is reasonably priced. Varied wine list with plenty of options under £30. A place to return to.
N. M.
Really nice pub. Staff very friendly and the food is gorgeous. Great selection of ales and beers. Ideal after a wintery walk on the beach
a. r.
Excellent service from the staff but food was average
B. H.
Really lovely pub with such a nice atmosphere. Very dog friendly and there was plenty of dogs around! And our food was really tasty, the chocolate brownie was one of the nicest I've ever had. They also had great social distancing measures in place and were doing most of the service outside today with the weather being nice. Will definitely be returning here next time we come to Formby.
w. t.
Nice pint + food exelant friendly staff
S. R.
Very busy so service was slow but the food was nice so it was worth the wait. Similarly mixed experience with service as we had a really good server but also one really sour faced one that almost caused us to go elsewhere on asking about a table. We ate outdoors which was pleasant but there was a wasps nest nearby that kept things interesting. On balance I would go back again
H. M.
Good variety of options on the menu, the food was lovely. There is a nice seating area outside with nice landscaped gardens. Staff are very pleasant and it is dog friendly which was great for us after a walk in the pinewoods.
G. M.
Always enjoy coming here. Relaxing. Good food with different choices. Staff so attentive. Reliably have a good meal
J. T.
Lovely
Late Sunday lunch....Sat on the patio in the cool...perfect thanks guys...
S. H.
Four of us ate here for lunch. The food is usually good but this time it was super good! I had the crispy chilli beef and it was delicious. Will definitely return!
R. B.
Took my mum for lunch, sat outside, was lovely, nice staff, great service, not the cheapest. When I ordered steak sandwich they said we have no steak which I think its something that should be mentioned when they give you the menu, had to choose an alternative quickly.
D. L.
Great venue, food and service also dog friendly.
S. J.
Beautiful. Great food, great staff and an amazing dining room. Loved it all.
M. S.
Food was good and the pint decent.
S. R.
Sat outside on a lovely sunny evening with our dog and had the fish and chips. We were staying nearby and was recommended to us. The staff were friendly and the food delicious. Would highly recommend.
J. F.
Great food, generous portions.
J.
Lovely setting; friendly, helpful staff and a designated dog friendly section, which all contributed to a very pleasant lunch. Would definitely go back. Highly recommended.
i. p.
Best experience at a pub during the pandemic. Excellent service and delicious food in great surroundings. Highly recommended. We sat outside in the garden and drinks arrived in a few minutes and food followed swiftly.
A. O.
Lovely food excellent staff.
P. R.
Very good food, interior and service.
Highly recommended.
c. m.
Excellent meal and service they also kept us going during lockdown offering click and collect.
P.
We visited for the first time today for lunch before a walk at Formby Point
The building itself is beautiful and plenty of parking available
The welcome was very warm and the food and service were excellent it was a busy time but no delays
My husband ordered the steak and ale pie and I had the lamb shoulder
Excellent choice of desserts too
Highly recommended!
J. B.
Lovely food and staff
A.
Lovely place in a beautiful setting. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the food is excellent. Plenty of outdoor seating and a decent size car park too. The ladies toilets were very clean... in fact the whole place is. We would definitely go to the Sparrowhawk again when in the area. I highly recommend you try it.
J. C.
Beautiful restaurant on a sunny day. Staff friendly and helpful and food fab but very busy so half an hour wait. Not too bad considering just how busy they were.
S. F.
Popped in after a round of golf - warm welcome - friendly staff - very nice establishment 👍
Long wait for meals, pricey but nice - i would deffinately call in again because the staff could.nt do enough for us - party of 5.. check it out! ..
Note to owners : make your sign more noticable 😉
T. V. H.
A pleasant, relaxed, comfortable atmosphere, with incredible food. My father reserved a table here the day before I was to fly back to my home abroad.
I was particularly impressed by the presentation of the meals and the availability of an allergen specific menu. The staff were friendly and efficient. We had a lovely family dinner and I would definitely recommend this restaurant!
C. M.
As usual a wonderful meal served by friendly staff.
E. H.
A birthday celebration with friends. Unfortunately in a draughty marquee type structure as weather prevents enjoying the usual lovely garden setting. Staff supporting and attentive. Food in good size portions, tasty and very moreish. Look forward to more clement weather to benefit from the usual pleasant garden seating areas.
R.
Have had lunch a number of times and always had a good varied menu,
took family recently for an evening meal and was slightly disappointed, food was cooked well and nicely presented
but the menu appeared limited, in comparison to lunch menu
r. v.
Excellent food, good value and friendly staff.
I. H.
Lovely pub/restaurant, but, alot of mega expensive cars, and that is reflected in the bar and restaurant prices.
H. J.
Always delicious food, great service and lovely atmosphere. We particularly love the crispy chilli beef better than any Chinese restaurant we've been too!
S. E.
Lovely food & staff well looked after by all staff
J. R.
So good to be back at one of our favourite places. Well organised, lots of space and same menu. One small complaint... I had the steak cheese burger... think the bun had been frozen then defrosted, didn't spoil the overall meal. Dessert was to die for.
C. C.
Love this place.
My first choice to eat out when vising my 97 year old Mum.
Food very tasty and good portion sizes.
Staff friendly.
M. P.
1st visit to sparrowhawk since before lockdown in March 20. Seated in conservatory which was busy but emptied out. Other areas busy and think this impacted on our table service. Waited a while for drinks order and then big gap before food orders taken. No followup drinks order and we had to ask for table service to order more drinks. Staff member who took order wasn't brilliant but did eventually apologise. When food came it was generally excellent and we had a good evening
N. R.
1st time we've visited this Restaurant/ Bar. Certainly will not be the last ! Food & service excellent. One of the nicest places we've dined in a very long time. Highly recommended.
F. T.
Great food good staff
t.
Beautiful surroundings, friendly atmosphere, extremely well run with great food and service, can't fault anything.
J. B.
Lovely food and great service. Love the location and the ambiance of this restaurant.
J. H.
I cannot overstate how great this place is. The food is always amazing, the ever changing menu is a delight as it keeps things interesting and there's ALWAYS something you just have to try. The beer is just as good, as are the staff. The fact it's dog friendly is an added bonus. Can't wait to go back again.
G. B.
Generally very good restaurant with great selection of food on menu covering the ££ to £££ range.
Overall covid secure although I felt greater ventilation was required as it felt a touch stuffy inside. Was busy but there was sufficient spacing between groups and a good cleaning regime.
C. C.
Congenial location and good selection of drink at the bar. Although we had to wait a bit too long for service on a quiet day, the food was reasonable if overpriced. The portions could have been a little better thought out. For an establishment that presents itself as one of quality I was somewhat surprised at the over familiarity of the waiters. Not bad but room for improvement.
C. T.
Really lovely setting. Wait for food after the order taken was excessive- over an hour - but it was packed with customers.
Not cheap and the potato menu items were frozen. Expect better for the prices paid.
n. f.
Good value! Family and dog friendly. Good food and pleasant staff.
S. E.
Lovely building and surroundings, friendly staff. Food was OK. We never made a comment at the time as was celebrating my Dad's 91st Birthday, but probably wouldn't go back to eat there.
J. W.
Lovely place to eat, I had the quiche with salad it was really tasty. Excellent service
A. W.
We had lunch there recently after the half price offer had ended. Our first time out since the beginning of Lockdown in March. We felt very safe because the tables were socially distanced, the staff had visors and masks and hand sanitizer was freely available on entering the premises and in the toilets, were a maximum of two people were aloud at any time. The food and service was excellent.
A. B.
Lovely pub with a great selection of beer
D. P.
Stopped for something to eat and a drink after a walk through the pinewoods. Given it was during covid-19 and a lot of places need you to book, they found a table for us. The food was fantastic and the staff were very welcoming and helpful. Recommended.
D. P.
Service excellent. Professional but friendly. Food was stunning. Cooked well and hot
v. s.
We visited here after a walk at the nearby sand dunes by the beach. This was one of the highest rated pubs in the area, so we booked ahead. We certainly don't regret it.
Massive place, plenty of parking and easy to find. Dogs are welcome inside and outside. All staff were good with the dogs.
There was not a single thing that we could fault. The choice of draught beers and lagers, the choice of food and lastly the service was fantastic. We had a lovely couple of hours here. Will certainly return, when we're next in the area.
As everywhere else, the choice of vegetarian food is limited or not all that tasty. Needs a bit more attention to this. Cheese and potato pie..come one, I am sure you guys can offer something better or atleast more choice.
Overall will return but maybe not as a family as quite a few of them are vegetarian!
R. W.
Great food and staff, very nice atmosphere and good decor, I have recommended to family and friends.
K. B.
Excellent food, fantastic service. Lovely surroundings. Would highly recommend.
L. S.
Food was little cold and meat was a little fatty, usually really nice
j. r.
First time I have visited and won’t be the last. The service and the food were excellent.
J. M.
Great atmosphere, lovely food. Friendly staff.
P. D.
Great service, good food, relaxed atmosphere, thoroughly enjoyed it
J. W.
Amazing food, great service, great atmosphere.
Beautiful setting, lovely gardens. Highly recommended!
I had garlic chilli prawns as a starter, battered cod & chips for my main, lemon tart with reaspberry coulis for dessert. All excellent. Thanks!
L. B.
Lovely food, wonderful staff. After a first visit we'll be returning soon. Girls loved the swings, could do with more play things outside for the kids for the summer. Think we'd be there a lot of that was the case!
S. F.
A very popular, pleasant venue, which caters for everyone's requirements. It is Dog friendly, and they may settle down with their owners, with the added bonus of some doggy biscuits. It's advisable to book your meal. A very pleasant atmosphere with excellent cuisine.
D. H.
Lovely pub/restaurant
Nice surroundings and ambiance.
Always visit when in the area.
R. B.
Had a great meal here with family. Ordered a variety of meals and they were all to a high standard. The place was very busy but still managed to turn the food round in reasonable time and to top it off the staff Do a great job. My only advice would be to book in advance
H. D.
Great service.food good, just do not put the fish on top of the chips.
b. h.
Popped in for one pint on Thursday afternoon noon used the QR to leave my details found a bench in gardens used QR reader on table to order my pint arrived within minutes lovely beer abit pricey
And no information on the drinks hard to tell the volume and weather it was larger or bitter. So if you are driving its a risk on strength of drink.
J. M.
Amazing place to visit. Super friendly staff, great food and dog friendly. Perfect place after a walk at Formby.
H. H.
Very busy, but table was reserved and available. Not cheap, and for what was basically a pub meal a bit pricey. However nothing wrong with the food. It did take over 30 min to get a portion of ice cream for desert. That is from order to it arriving. Decoration is looking a bit tired as well. Nice but pricey. There are places as good for less, but it's big plus is very dog friendly.
I. E.
Large pub/restaurant with lots of indoor & outdoor seating. We sat outside on the patio. Great menu with lots of options, we ordered sandwiches & chips which were delicious & arrived in good time. The whole place was very clean & the staff were all friendly. Would recommend.
A.
Lovely lunchtime meal. Good cleaning station at entry and masks on offer too. Staff friendly and not rushing us.
Would come again
D. C.
So relaxing, been twice in a week, once for a meal and once for a couple of drinks, the second time taking our little dog with us, I cannot stress what a great place this is, the staff are fantastic, the food is so tasty, and nothing is too much trouble.
We will be back very soon.
Thanks to everyone and a Happy New Year.
m. m.
Lovely food great service and very helpful and friendly staff
w.
Best grounds of any restaurant in Merseyside.
Really good food and professional service.
W. K. G. A.
Love this chain always make a beeline for one of them when we are away, always great food brilliant service and friendly and helpful staff
C. D.
It's a lovely setting amongst the trees, we always sit outside with our dog as it's so relaxing but you can actually eat inside with your furry babies if you like. The sparrowhawk is a very dog friendly pub with water bowls scattered around & dog treats on the bar.
The food is lovely here but sadly not the best choice of veggie food, too many nuts for my liking also.
The staff are friendly & very efficient and it's a pleasure to visit.
A. J.
We popped into The Sparrowhawk without reservation around 5pm. No problem at all. Table for three quickly found, although judging by the amount of diners arriving after us I would suggest booking if you intend on visiting at peak times.
Staff were pleasant and attentive.
As always with B&P establishments there were a wide selection of starters, side dishes, main courses and desserts.
It's always difficult to decided what to have but having eaten at quite a few and never having been disappointed by the quantity, quality or presentation of the dishes I suspect you could throw a dart at the menu and you would not be disappointed by any resulting choice.
Food arrived promptly and piping hot. All three agreed at the end that it was delicious and more importantly we were full.
Yet again top marks and well recommended.
G. C.
Food is soon tasty. Good wine too.
David and Kate Davies, our very good friends from Devon, 33rd wedding anniversary
S. B.
Wonderfully dog friendly and accommodating of larger group numbers. Food wise, need to focus on what they do really well (good pub grub) rather than mediocre Asian curries which lack depth of flavour. Bring back the butcher's board which is excellent.
L.
Sorry I don't have pics, but nevertheless i love this place a regular spot. great everytime always recommended going here, call up to book ahead and make sure to take all the family, great location dogs wellcome too.
S. T.
Special birthday outing, first time we had been and chose on reviews of dog friendly pubs. Very good recommendations excellent food, good range of beers, various board games to use, and a bowl of water and space to sleep for Connie. We'll be back. Thanks.
R. M.
We’ve visited the Sparrowhawk on a number of occasions over the past few months whilst the various lockdowns have come and gone. The food is always faultless and the cleanliness above and beyond.
Friendly staff and a lovely setting make this restaurant a really special place to visit.
P. H.
First time here this afternoon, me hubby and support bubble, first class! Food , service, all excellent, lovely friendly staff and we all felt very safe! We will definitely be dining here again and often. Thankyou very much!! ❤️❤️
P. A.
Great staff go that extra mile to serve you.
P. J.
Thank you for a wonderful afternoon tea the box carried lovely surprises full of freshly made sandwiches full of fillings the smoked salmon quiche was full of flavour, scone with jam and clotted cream could have fed two, slices of fresh fruit little chocolate Easter eggs and to top it of 3 cakes o,so delicious, a delight in every bite .Please keep this on your menus in the future I have promised the family this experience.
M. P.
Food and service is average at best. Fairly expensive too. IMO there are much better choices - and cheaper - nearby.
P. P.
Excellent service, friendly staff and food very good too.
R. Y.
Really nice place, food was excellent. But over hyped for us, couldn’t see why it was amazing but was very good.
A. F.
Excellent place. Great food, very friendly staff, cosy atmosphere. Best eating establishment in the area by a long way.
S. M.
Just had Mother’s Day takeaway for the Sparrowhawk.
1. Excellent organisation and collection service during lockdown.
2. Didn’t have to cook myself
3. Food was first class (as always) and well presented in the takeaway boxes
4. Reasonably priced
Can’t fault the place or the experience and really looking forward to a time when we can come back properly and enjoy a sit down meal with you.
L. U.
It was a lovely sunny day so we sat outside. Well maintained lawns and mature trees were a delight. Menu changes daily and food was very good. The staff were welcoming and helpful. I just wish I lived nearby so I could go more often.
M. B.
The food was exceptional and the grounds are beautiful. Only slight negative would be a wider selection on the children's menu. Apart from that highly recommended
S. G.
Our first meal out in over a year. Great food, loved every mouth full. Well set up and staff doing a fantastic job.
C. W.
First time we've been, but very impressed all round - great food, well manicured lawns to the front with well spaced out tables, which is where we sat as we had two dogs with us. The sweet chilli beef starter was fantastic, the mini chorizo starter was nicer than expected, and we had two Sunday lunches - again, very nice. It's now in my GPS as a bookmark, if that's anything to go by !
J. F.
Food is always amazing, and staff are lovely and attentive.
Highly recommended
R. J.
Food is amazing fresh daily
D. B.
Great food and staff very helpful. A must if your looking for a Dog friendly pub. We will be back.
D. W.
One of the best. Abit of a hidden gem with great food service and quiet, beautiful location
A. H.
Cannot fault this place excellent food, service and venue and deserving of all five stars. This is the consistent experience of the Sparrowhawk on every visit and always the first choice for a family get together ☀️
E. F.
Great food beautiful location. We ate inside as we had a new baby with us. Lovely patio area. Good spacing between tables very well managed
R. R.
Food was good but i was very impressed with how they took precautions against the virus. Felt very safe and comfortable. Staff all had visors and everything was bought out on trays for you to take off.
L. B.
Visited Friday lunchtime and it was very busy. No tables inside but just warm enough to sit outside. Food was nice, I had the Steak Burger and my colleague had the Tomato & Pesto Bruschetta. Staff helpful but were very busy.
J. T.
Lovely place to eat for a special occasion or just a spot of lunch ! Beautiful surroundings. Dogs allowed too! Gluten Free Menu so ideal for a coeliac like me ! Highly recommend.
J. C.
Absolute gem of an establishment. Fine food and very fine ale. Gorgeous decor, hits all the right spots for traditional English pub but with class and finesse.
The menu changes regularly and has a selection to satisfy all tastes
Outstanding
Oooosh
R. M.
Great ambience, we have been a few times it's a lovely old building ,great staff and food.
C. T.
1st time here, really enjoyed our experience. Very relaxed feel, enjoyed the food & staff are professional & friendly.
B. B.
Really good quality
More restaurant than pub but good drinks and relaxing atmosphere. Dog friendly too
B. M.
Big old house off Formby Bypass. Good food. Varied menu. Pleasant staff. Ambiance delightful. Bar area too. Doggies welcome.
N. D.
Nice, spacious, relaxed pub in scenic grounds. Staff very efficient and friendly.
Food rather average, standard chunky chips accompanying a rather tough, chewy steak, disappointing but will go again and try something different.
P. D.
Very tasty meal birthday celebration takes a while for food to come but worth it
E. S.
Excellent food and attentive staff, as usual. A great place to eat. Nine of us this evening and everyone enjoyed the experience.
W. E.
One of my favourite places.
M. D.
Food was super tasty and the staff were really helpful. Really enjoy eating here
L. O.
Went for breakfast, service was brilliant, staff were lovely. The place itself is beautiful with lovely gardens & seating outside. The food was delicious, really tasty breakfast, empty plates all round
E. B.

My wife and I have dined here many times and we are always impressed with the food and service
I have booked for my 70th birthday in September and are really looking forward to the night
C. T.
Fab , food & staff are 10/10 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
J. H.
Food was not great, fish over cooked to a crisp, beer was flat and not much choice other than traditional ales. Would go again to give another chance.
M. R.
Good food, good choice, great service. I had the Appleby cheese and potato pie with a delicious leek and white wine sauce served with puree carrot, cabbage and broccoli. More than enough. The second time I have had this so proof in itself! !
M. T.
Amazing take away set-up for lockdown. Felt really safe. Staff were COVID-aware. Food was exceptional, as always. Would recommend to family and friends (and anyone else who would listen)
T. R.
Very nice, pleasant staff. Quite expensive on main meals compared to others so we stick to light bites. Atmosphere calm average age 50 yrs and above.
k. w.
Excellent menu coupled with the additional covid aware service, made our first meal out after lock down perfect. Well done to the management and especially the staff.
A. G.
The service was very friendly and attentive, and they were very careful to accommodate the two food allergies in our party of nine.
The food was of a very high quality with generous portions. Thoroughly enjoyed and recommended.
L. O.
Excellent food, faultless service. Will definitely be eating here again
A. W.
Amazing meal food was beautiful nice and hot, service was impeccable can’t wait to return.
s. D.
Just popped in for a pre Holiday light bite. Fitted us in without pre booking.. lots options on the menu.. for light bites or nibbles. We shared a starter of hummus and my husband had an amazing fish finger sandwich and I had Salmon and noodles which was very tasty. Quick and friendly service. We will be back.
P. W.
Excellent food and welcoming atmosphere. Staff very friendly and professional. Will certainly visit again.
B. C.
Really good food and great relaxed atmosphere
J. D.
Very nice pub. Warm and friendly atmosphere. Excellent food and a range of cask ales. I had cheese, onion and potato pie in shortcrust pastry which was really tasty.
A. S.
Fantastic setting & atmosphere as you walk in the door is mind-blowing & they are even dog friendly which is a bonus. On to the food it was 5* +++ along with the service - a marvelous end to our break away in our motor home
j. c.
So comfortable.
So cosy.
Our waitress, was very helpful.
Food delicious.
Would highly recommend, and can't wait to go again, after refurbishment.
C. G.
Food was spot on and lovlely staff lost a star because they were a bit stingy with the gravy other than that would highly recommend
C. F.
Great food, great atmosphere , staff are very obliging, and beautiful surroundings.
P. F.
Great food, service and ambiance. Will return many times.
D. I.
We chose the Sparrowhawk for a special birthday meal. When making the reservation the options available were outlined and every effort was made to meet our requests. The food was excellent, all meals ready to serve the large party at the same time and the service attentive and efficient. A very positive experience.
D. J.
Food was good, portion of fish pie was a little small but great taste. The setting is phenomenal and staff very friendly. Will be going back again sometime.
I. J.
Really great community pub. Lots of real ale and very welcoming. Good food and staff. Great parking, dogs welcome and of you forget your glasses there is a
Pot full of them just in case.
C. j.
Gorgeous bistro food with a lovely decadent atmosphere, the only thing that spoilt it was the chips were frozen and not homemade .
D. M.
This is a great place to dine. Being independent? the Sparrowhawk is unique in this part of north Merseyside in that it has an olde pub feel about the place combined with a warmth and charm.
The menu is very extensive, the only negative is that the roast beef was tough on the occasion I dined there. This was no big deal as it was quickly changed without fuss and was soon forgotten. You should visit.
D. H.
Beautiful Fresh Food and Amazing service. Would highly recommend!
D. L.
Lovely outdoor seating area in a nice quiet location. Food was excellent although the staff that served us on the day weren't particularly attentive resulting in rather a long delay between courses.
G. B.
Nice pub, Nice grounds and good food .
E. C.
Delicious food. Lovely staff. Excellent service. Great atmosphere.
P. B. (.
I was very impressed with this homely pub and restaurant just out of Formby. I went for coffee that came in a great pot with accompanying flspkeck piece.
The outside area was lovely to sit in on a still autumn afternoon. This is a God friendly site with plenty of water (doggy IPA) for them and great grounds.
The inside is cosy too and there is good access for wheelchairs. I certainly found moving mine OK.
R. W.
Fantastic place, after being to one place nearby and having a rude welcome. We found this place on google, we was greated by a lovely lady, a dog friendly place, which was so clean. The food was amazing. The service was great! What a lovely place! Will be recommending!!
T. P.
Good country house location with inside and outside tables. Meals were good value and quality and service good. Covid19 measures were good and not too restrictive. Overall a good experience
R. N. R. B.
This pub is gorgeous. Food/Gin/ Friends/Staff.
L. G.
Food was lovely as usual and perfect day for dining al fresco. Staff definitely put the customer first, usual high standard
E. B.
One of the few places around Southport that feels like a country pub. Food is above par but the setting and feel add a certain extra. Nicely decorated and jovial staff. The rural vibe does, however, come at the cost of proximity to any local transport.
R. J.
Here with all the family. Parents, son's and daughters, and grand son . Absolutely fabulous .Great food from starters to puddings. Lovely atmosphere. Great service . Do you need anymore.
G. B.
This place never fails to impress me. The range and quality of the hand pumped ales. The stunning food. The great family feel and service. From all the staff. A winning combination.
S. G.
Well priced.. friendly staff..good choice of meals.. a good pub grub place
M. h.
We like it here, great food.
D. M.
I don't know the name of the chain of pubs who own the Sparrowhawk, but I do know one of it's sister pubs, and eat there regularly - (The Red Fox) and can say they have got things absolutely Spot On.
Great selection of Beers, Ciders, Gin's and I'm sure everything else (You can tell what I drink!). With a layout that is designed to provide a really welcoming & relaxing visit.
The food is always of the highest "Pub Food" standard with a price that is very fair - You get what you pay for.
I did notice on this visit that the Sparrowhawk that it doesn't have the small pudding & coffee selection that the Red Fox has, that's a pity as we do like to finish off with a smaller pudding, but this would not stop me going back again.
If you want a great evening out and have some friends join you for a meal then you won't find many pubs better than the Sparrowhawk.
D. S.
After walking from Liverpool to Southport we decided to stop off at your place to grab some well deserved food and a nice cold beer. The service we got was brilliant and Chloe who served us couldn't have done anything more for us. Thank you
N. A.
Not a dog person so wouldn't eat there had a drink outside not everyone likes dogs
S. P.
I went here on Sunday 20th June 2018 as one of a party of 18 people to celebrate my Mum's 90th birthday. We had one room all to ourselves, which was good. I had the Haggis & black pudding hash cake, followed by the Chicken, ham and leek pie and didn't leave a crumb on either plate. The food was simply gorgeous and considering this, was fairly priced given that I've paid much more for far less quality in restaurants not worthy to be mentioned in the same paragraph as The Sparrowhawk. Good full bodied ground, hot coffee followed the meal, served in pots, allowing top-ups for those that wanted to. Back home as a family, we commented to each other how good the food was and would like to thank you for helping to make our Mum's big day, that bit more special. I, for one, will be back and have already recommended The Sparrowhawk to other people.
J. D.
Went for lunch, lovely place. Both outdoor and indoor areas are beautiful and well looked after. Service wasn’t great but the food was excellent which more than made up for it.
d. f.
Very good food in nice cosy surroundings, family run restaurant and bar. dogs welcome in bar area, good choice of food on the menu and good drinks selection. Nice outdoor seating for when weather is nice.
I. J.
Very nice establishment.
J. R.
Nice place if you want a quiet meal. Dogs accepted but only in the bar area. Staff are warm and friendly. Restaurant area can be busy as many of the window tables were prebooked.
D. C.
Steak sandwich went down a treat with a nice pint of Bowness Bay bitter
R. W.
Fantastic meal and fantasic service. We found it by accident but i am glad i went the wrong way.

We had my Husbands 70th birthday lunch at Sparrowhawk recently and it was perfect! Service was first class and staff made us very welcome, would highly recommend this Restaurant. Thank you Sparrowhawk Staff for a very memorable time. We also go for coffee and sometimes lunch or dinner and always have 5 star service.

A really good find which caters for all needs. Our waitress was a bit short and sharp but our food was excellent and the wines reasonably priced. Worth a visit I would say.

I called in for a drink on a sunny day. Really nice pub with quite a lot of outdoor seating and really pleasant outdoor area. I never tried the food but it looked good. Prices are high for drinks and food but still a place to go for somewhere well above average
C. S.
Lovely place but since they've changed the menu there is hardly any veggie food, so not much choice for us. Beer is good though.

A hidden gem of a place, in all my days driving into Southport via the Formby by-pass I never knew The Sparrowhawk was situated on Southport Old Road. Took a party of 11 in the afternoon from 2:00 till 5:30. Food is first class, offering great selection of 3 course fayre. The menu changes daily. The staff are excellent.
