Reviews of Baranis

Great little bar next door to the law society. they have an area to play Pétanque inside, great snack / sharing menu and pretty decent cocktails.
Get a booth, chat, be merry!!!

Unique cocktails, good house wine, has a great character to the place and ofcourse pétanque! Good fun overall..

Nice place. It is not crowded and has good drinks. Highly recommend it.

Great unique cocktails prepared by a warm and welcoming staff. You will like the atmosphere in this vaulted, cellar type place where the music cheers people up. And most people seem to be French, which is great / terrible depending on your personal experiences :-)

Fantastic french cocktail bar. I organized a party there for my company so that everyone could give a go to the very famous pétanque game. They loved it. You can book a semi-private area. The staff was very nice and helpful although hey didn't wait for me to arrive before serving my guests which made it complicated for me to manage our budget.

The place is good for a big group as you can order drinks, food and play. Quality of the food is acceptable, not the best but okay to nibble while playing baranis. Don’t expect a brilliant wine selection but just a bit more average, again the place is entertaining to play baranis. Ideal for work colleagues as you have an activity and makes it less awkward.

I love this place and they have a fabulous restaurant upstairs. The manager George allowed us to shoot a video interview in a private dining room to the side of the restaurant and did not even charge us extra. Very accommodating. Thanks for the great service.

Never a false step with Cigalon menu or service. Great value peaceful dining. Superb eclectic wine list.

We hired Baranis for our corporate Christmas drinks' reception and it was the perfect choice. The venue is a big enough to be spacious but also has a lovely cosy, intimate atmosphere. The staff was excellent throughout the whole process and made sure we had a fantastic time on the day. All the cocktails are delicious and the addition of Petanque adds a welcome extra piece of entertainment. Would definitely hire the venue again for a private party and return for drinks any time!

Petanque is just a great drinking pass time

Wanted to thank all of Leds team and Celine for helping us host our Engagement and Birthday party on Saturday, a BIG BIG THANK YOU!! All our guests loved the venue and atmosphere!
We wanted the pizza flavours adjusted slightly for our guests and Baranis was very accommodating to help. The team had everything ready for our DJ, serving welcome drinks as new guests arrived, topping up our pre ordered drinks seamlessly, getting pizza ready to serve based as and when the guests arrived, to cutting the birthday cake for our guests.
Was a fun night and has left good memories for all our guests, thank you so much for making our evening a success everything was impeccable!

Great little bar with boule court, lovely cocktails and nice french nibbles. We went on a Friday night and there was a bit of an after work drunken crowd there, but as we were in a little booth we were able to ignore them :-) Music can be a bit loud sometimes.

Superb. Best bar in London that I've found in 15 years. The staff are interesting and very caring of their customers, the cocktails are awesome and the petanque is a wonderful diversion. Oh and the music is cool.

Whilst Cigalon upstairs turns out delicious food - albeit in not overly generous portions - served by friendly and attentive staff, the real gem here is Baranis downstairs. Run by an excellent team, they have a nice selection of off-beat wines, make excellent cocktails and serve great food. For locals this is about as close to Cheers as it gets and the bar's strong support from local workers is a testament to the team's hard work. Great for parties and smaller groups, this is a much loved favourite.

We had our our wedding reception here in November. It is quite cosy but fit the 90 guests we had plus band perfectly.
It's got a lovely layout with the petanque court, private booths, open space near the bar and pillars throughout. Led, Celine and the rest of the team were so accommodating to all our requests, from decoration, food and drinks to music and table layout for the night.
They're a really friendly team and the place has a great vibe. Really looking forward to going back. Thank you guys - Maz and Andrea.

Really good bar. Has very helpful bar staff who bring drinks too your table. Not too busy although you generally need to book the petanque alleys quite far in advance on the website. They also do some nice bar food.

One of London’s great hidden gem bars. Class setting, great bar staff and the Pétanque (which you don’t need to book) is the icing on the cake. Great for work events too!

Great place for a drink and the petanque lane (boulodrome) is a great addition. The bar is on the lower ground floor so you don't get to enjoy the weather if it's nice outside. A great place to come for a drink though and the staff are friendly. You can book the petanque slot for free on their website.
S. R.
Great selection of cocktails as well as nibble specialties from Nice and Provence. Would definitely recommend it for people missing the pétanque (there's a terrain inside the venue) and local drinks.

Loved the petanque, but half an hour want enough to really get into it and we couldn't be sure of making the minimum spend required to reserve for longer (I think £80 from memory) at a pub we'd never visited before and went sure if we'd like.

A treasure of a bar on Chancery Lane. Great cocktails inspired by the south of France. Broad range of bar food. Great wine. Always a wonderful atmosphere courtesy of the bar team. AND indoor Petanque - love it!

4* , very nice place to have a drink or even enjoy some Petanque. Good for private events or even networking with customers/clients. Friendly and attentive staff. Reasonable price for central London.

Great little bar. Good wines with good matching food samplers and good service by helpful staff. What more does one need ? If you've been and are thinking about going again- go. If you haven't been... Go !
B. R.
Great bar. Had a lovely time there for a private function. Only complaint is when you want to play boules it's next to impossible to differentiate the boules. They need to be a bit more different.
M. A.
Very nice place. Friendly and knowledgeable staff.
Thanks for the great time I had on my last visit.

Tucked away on Chancery Lane. A very quaint bar that has an extensive cocktail menu in the heart of London’s law district. Sitting behind the Old Bank.of England building you Are on the basement level in what presumably was an old vault . One of the only establishments open along Chancery Lane on Saturday nights.

Cool place where you can enjoy some French-inspired drinks and a game of petanque... the latter definitely sets it apart from other bars.
I however made the mistake of having too many Absynthe cocktails in a rather short timespan. Won't be doing that again ;-)

I've been to Baranis a couple of times as I work nearby. A friend took me there first for cocktails and they were absolutely fantastic! I've been to Nightjar,Experimental Cocktail Club,64 Colebrook Row and other famous cocktail bars in order to try out the innovative drinks made by the in house mixologists. Baranis has a special edge over all of these - its not yet 'too cool' (aka long queues) ; its still firmly in the category of an undiscovered gem. I tried the Lychee and Lavender martini, which was served with a gorgeous fresh sprig of lavender in a martini glass with lychee at the bottom. Also tried a really good Laphroaig based cocktail, absolutely delicious! The place has a really old school 40s French vibe with great music and decor. The bar staff are really friendly and I've even popped in for lunch (might I add the food is also really good!) for a burger. Try some of their bar snacks, also really good. I will definitely be going there more often and am spreading the word!

Came here for an office xmas party. The staff are lovely and friendly and distributing platters of food evenly avoiding bottlenecks as often is the case!
The petanque was a great addition of an activity however since it was sectioned off in a different area it felt underutilised.

If you ever find yourself having recently returned from the South of France with patchy tans, dreams of retirement and a score to settle, Baranis is the place for you. That's providing the score to settle was in our Gallic cousins’ sharpest art, Petanque. Or Boules. Or whatever it is.
Baranis is a cracking little Provence themed bar on Chancery Lane. Taking the Provence theme to its most evocative ebb, they’ve only gone and got the UK’s only indoor petanque court, that’s all. It’s quite an unexpected place in quite an unexpected area, but somehow it really works. Down some steps and you’re in old vaulted cellars of a former auction house, the place is speckled with illustrations recalling a sun-drenched southern France, and held together by some arrestingly green pillars. The drinks menu naturally has its fair share of great wine, but peppered with some Pastis and Absinthe concoctions that give the bar its name. The crowd when we went was overwhelmingly French, which really completed the effect.
The big draw is the petanque. It’s a pretty tight spot and you’re convinced that you’re about to smash something at any moment, but with thick shale and a brick enclosure the only damage you’ll do is to your reputation. Freely hire out the little cubby hole towards the end of the petanque court and you'll not only add the edge of true danger to your evening, but have incredibly cute secluded spot to position yourself. Highly recommended.

An original concept for this bar which transports you in an instant to southern France thanks to its long list of drinks making much of the region’s prime aperitif, Pastis and Absinthe. On top of that, there is even an indoor gravelled pétanque court (for playing the southern version of boules), cordoned off from the bar at one side. Fun time guaranteed.

Good cocktails, pétanque available to book for an interesting bar game. Good wine selection, can't say the same for the beer
r. m.
You can play pétanque and drink Pastis if you book before
F. V.
Absolutely a great place to have drinks with friends while playing at petanque. Fantastic cocktails too.

Really nice pub. Perfect staff. You can even play pétanque inside (if it's not too busy though)

Really good cocktails at reasonable prices. Indoor petanque court is really fun but recommend you book it
