Reviews of Bermondsey Arts Club

Loved this bar. It's located in a former underground toilet. The repurpose of the building is great. They kept all the original tiles. The bar itself looks very fancy against the wall as soon as you come downstairs. The menu changes on a monthly basis. If anything I'd say the lights could be just a bit brighter as it was quite dark. We will be back for sure.

Best cocktail I’ve had in years. Sublime. Went on a Monday night - hardly anyone there but then another woman bought us a round of shots. And I did a headstand. One of those unexpected nights ❤️
You must try this cocktail…
R. H.
Popped in here on a Monday night with my sister and friend and was delighted with the quality of the cocktails, I tried 4 and all seemed to be packed with flavour, my favourite was the mango one. The barman was pleasant and friendly. We also spoke to the doorman who was a bundle of joy.
The venue itself is a little small but certainly has a quirky design that makes for an interesting place to socialise. I especially love the light panel roof design and the spacious outdoor seating area. I can see how much of a joy it would be to sit out here during summer with one or your delicious cocktails in hand.

Great bar and cocktails. I recommend the Wood Castle. It is a public toilet turned into a speak easy at the heart of Bermondsey. Staff and bartenders are very friendly too. Although the space is well decorated, the acoustic is not so good and makes you raise your voice to be heard amongst the noisy customers.
A. B.
Thus is a lovely cocktail bar and the staff are really helpful and go out of their way to give you what you want. Their is room for improvement in the seating which is not that comfy, but other than that, first class!
Л. В.
Nice bar. The cocktails are good but a bit too sweet...
A. B.
Really nice place. I enjoyed the vibe and cocktails. The only disappointment was that the security guard was rushing us out about 20 minutes before closing time.
T. H.
Cozy cocktail bar tucked away in the middle of a roundabout in a former public toilet. Despite this it isn't too small, unless a large group comes in. There is probably seating for around 60 (mostly stools). Good selection of cocktails, though they are not inexpensive (£9.50 - £12). There is also wine and some beer.
Chart music is a bit abrasive.
D. P.
As far as I’m concerned, the bar was built in an old former public toilet 😀 Really impressing atmosphere, good cocktails and the prices are not so huge. If you’re looking around for having a cocktail, the place is highly recommended. A bit weird, but still good.
P. B.
I was here couple of weeks ago, and met 2 really good and quick bartenders. One of them was called Eduardo and second one Luca. If they aren't busy, they also have a short chats which can help kill the time if you are drinking by yourself. Would come again.

What a wonderful and utterly unique place! The great thing about the Bermondsey arts club apart from it's incredibly stylish and speakeasy feel is the fact that it stays open until 1 or 2 am each evening. This makes it a rare find in Bermondsey a place where everything else shuts at the boring British time of 2300! The cocktails are incredible - slightly overpriced but well worth it. The only real issue is it is rather quiet most of the time it's not a place to go to party...more a place to go for a chat, a date, or just to chill out, but it's totally memorable!
G. S.
LOVE IT! Cool little space with good cocktails. I’ll def be back
L. F. T.
I visited this bar as a night out with some colleagues & was amazed by the vibe of the place. While entering I didn't expect it to be this lively & buzzing! The staff were friendly & knowledgeable, will return :)
G. B.
Super fancy underground cocktail bar. The drinks were alright but the bar itself was stunning. Fun night
e. i.
Lovely underground bar fantastic cocktails and a fabulous outdoor terrace
E. S.
Very cool cocktail bar, great atmosphere friendly bartenders and jazzy live music 👌
F. B.
Nice idea of a bar in a Victorian toilet conversion but it is small and very loud with limited seating if it's crowded unless you reserve an area but it's still not guaranteed. The drink selection is OK, the usual cocktails and nice wines, not the best especially given the competition in the area. Agree with the other reviews that the service is slow and unwelcoming.
V. T.
Great atmosphere, open late and unique interior. Highly recommend
M. E. J.
Really cool concept, but the service wasn't the best. The main person at the bar wasn't friendly at all.. and our friend having a soft drink had the most expensive soft drink I've ever seen...
The drinks are great, but they could do with a more friendly atmosphere... The bartender was friendly with other people, maybe it's just how they deal with non regular customers
J. S.
Neat place open late, bar service lacking. Expensive pours.
G. J.
Great vibe
Bang DJ
Drinks were lit
Venue on the tiny side
C. K.
An amazing bar!! Excellent service and good music!!
M.
Decent place, feels nice and intimate, but expensive for what you get; £12 for a spirit and mixer.
A. P.
Cocktails were average, standard London level of expensive despite not being in the centre of town and way too busy.
We booked a table, which in reality meant nothing as people flooded in due to a lack of doorman.
N. C.
Small but cosy bar. Fun music. Themes cocktails for halloween.
B. M.
When friends said the bar was in an old public toilet I was equal-parts repulsed and intrigued. Intrigue turned to excitement as i the only vestige of its former use is the tiled floor and subterranean location. What a cool bar! The spicy cocktail w marmalade was the best. It can get crowded quickly on the weekends, so best to arrive early if you want to sit. Also, prepare your vocal cords in advance—they crank the music LOUD.
J. H.
Great ambience and cosy on cold winters day.
B. B.
Great cocktails! Lovely speak-easy
M. D.
A great bar! It's situated underground but there is still phone reception. It is a small venue but the mood, music, and service is great. A bar-girl/bar-man will approach you ask take your drinks order then bring it to.... unless you'd prefer to drink at the bar. the toilets are clean but fairly compact. The prices are a but steep but it's in the middle of London so not unexpected.
N. P.
This is a cool location, nice concept. I drank some good cocktails here and sat on a cool table. The music selection was the only thing that would stop me coming back frequently. It was loud enough to not just be in the background and didn't fit with the vibe at all (I remember the Stereophonics came on).
G. A.
V small bar but nice and cosy. Had a private party here, sound was banging, staff were really friendly, doorman was cool. Nice little spot. Lots of people turned away at the door (due to the private party) so must be busy.
J. F.
We took a party of 20 here after a dinner nearby. We had booked an area with the manager and talked about hoping for a lively place with good music but still having the ability to speak.
BAC was perfect. Staff were great, prices reasonable and they even let us put our own playlist on.
It will be our place of choice in the future.
M. C.
I went there with a couple of friends last Thursday. Great athmosphere with some live piano music playing in the background. Well-finished cocktails served by friendly and professional staff. Something special if you don't like crowded places with cocktails roughly made. I'll be back there for sure.
A. F.
Public bathroom turned into hipster-bougie bar. Went on a Thursday night for the live jazz piano. It's great for going with good friends or a SO, just maybe not a first date as the ambiance is almost too intimate, being such a small venue. Cocktails are on the pricy side but incredibly creative and delicious.
E. S.
This is the best bar in Bermondsey. Once a public toilet, now an art deco dreamland. The cocktails are incredible (recommend the rusty dan- a delicious sweet rum cocktail). The mixologists are charming and know what they're doing. But above all, the atmosphere is what makes this place incredible. Dark, sexy and glamourous, come here for a date or if you're in need of remembering why you love London.
J. N.
Quite like what the owners did with the interior - moody intimate atmosphere that doesn't feel like an old loo. The prices are slightly overpriced, something I think would put people off from returning, especially since the cocktail menu and service doesn't stand out compared to local competitors.
M. F. L.
Jazz nights on Wednesday and Thursday with different musicians every now and then. Great cocktail selection. Previously a public toilet. Amazing, intimate and cozy atmosphere. Great alternative to bigger jazz clubs like Ronnie Scott's - BAC holds its own.
N. M.
A very nice place. I was there last Saturday with friends, it was very busy but the service was very fast. The cocktails are delicious and the staff is very friendly. I'll be back there for sure next week for the live jazz music.
D. A.
Very nice cocktails. I love the fact that it is almost impossible to notice form the street. I love the atmosphere inside, looking forward to come back one of the nights they play live music!
G. F.
Lovely hidden cocktail bar underground built in an old public toilet. Good selection of cocktails, nice quiet atmosphere. It’s a place to see at least once when in SE1.
C. G.
The good: A really nice venue (despite being a converted public toilet!) and a great atmosphere with good music until the early hours.
The bad: A 330ml can of beer costs an insane £11!!!
P. B.
Nice use of an ex public toilet. Nice atmosphere albeit music a little loud. Great choice of cocktails which change every 6 months (seasonal)
J. W.
Hello! It's a London hidden gem!
You should bring your friend to this place for a drink and to listen to live music. It really has a unique 'speakeasy' vibe.
J. T.
Cool vibrant place. Amazing cocktails thanks to the great Luca and Eduardo!
M. M.
We went here religiously when it opened, menu was great and bartenders super friendly. It's since changed: head bartender left, they promote themselves as 'cocktails in the loo' with models rather than the staff, and they now have a doorman: I was told off for wearing white Jack Purcells, trousers and a RRL jumper because 'no white trainers'. Eventually got inside and it's arse cracks and jeans everywhere.
H. K.
It looks like a toilet from the outside, but what do you know? It’s a bar!
Really trendy interior that makes a cosy date location or place to go in a small group.
Typical London cocktail prices.
R. D.
Service was a bit slow, but the atmosphere, live jazz, and friendly staff made up for it. Drinks were made with care, and you could really taste the freshness. If you're in the area absolutely check it out very cool vibe.
M. W.
It's an ok venue, needs more atmosphere and staff. Thought the drinks were a little over priced and needed to have more cocktail selection on the menu.
S. W.
An alright speakeasy in Bermondsey. It’s USP is in the fact that it’s located in a former public restroom.. but you wouldn’t notice it very much! Cocktails are overpriced - as is the norm in London..
A. H.
Amazing Speakeasy bar with great cocktails selections. the bar tenders are really knowledgeable and friendly the service is good too. Prices are ok for London.
D. W.
Really cool venue, totally unassuming from the outside but executed brilliantly once you get inside. Gets busy, to can take a while to get a (pricey) drink - but they are good.
A. N.
Cool venue, which had we hired out for a private party but was expensive for drinks as we were there all night. I had a good night and we were well looked by the staff but I've given 3 stars purely on the prices, which werent completely ridiculous, but higher than I would have expected.
P. O.
Great little speakeasy style cocktail place. Good selection of Islay single malts. Nice staff, nice music. Love jazz some nights.
A. V.
A tiny space used intelligently well with an innovative drinks menu, often the drinks just don't work but credit to them to try something different. Live music adds a nice touch to this place.
E. R.
Incredible bartenders and fantastic venue. For sure I will come back
M. S.
Nice underground bar at the end of Bermondsey St. Nice cocktails but a little pricey. Bouncer always friendly when they're there as well.
R. S.
The cocktails are always perfectly made and the service is second to none. We've been visiting the Bermondsey Arts Club for years and the standard has never dropped.
D. N.
I've been there more than once, last time on saturday, I like the vibe inside this bar, cocktails are great and particular, staff is nice, always very friendly.
Try it.
C. H.
Good cocktails but waiter's knowledge should be better. Being mostly tiled it was a bit cold and there was a slight 'toilet' smell.
D. M. V. N.
In my opinion one of the coolest cocktail bars in London.
Exotic cocktails from around the world. Definitely a place to checkout if you are into mixology.
C. M.
Intimate and cozy cocktail bar with a great vibe. Feels like you’re in a speakeasy!
D. M.
Love this place, such a good vibe. They even made me an off the menu cocktail. It was blue but delish
A. A.
I went to the Bermondsey Arts Club for my friend's 25th Birthday party, it has a nice vibe friendly staff and cosy environment, be careful tho because the drinks are very strong besides that nothing to say, very lovely place.
D. K.
Great place pre covid but it's difficult to distance at the moment unless in the garden up top.
M. S.
Wonderful small venue with live jazz pianist on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Highly recommend for small groups (less that 4 people)
C. R.
Amazing!! Great cocktails, great setting. Only thing is, live band is super loud, so difficult to have conversation when they're playing.
R. L.
Nice little location for a cocktail. Well air conditioner too. Staff friendly!
d. m.
Quirky surroundings (ex Victorian lav), lovely cocktails, great music (poppy soul) and good chilled atmosphere.
T. M.
Such a cute little bar. Super unique, great drinks. Can't really go too wrong at BAC!
B. B.
Great space and cocktails!
P. M.
A tiny cocktail bar located in former public toilets. Cocktails are excellent (especially the one with a taste of cinnamon) and the atmosphere is great.
K. I.
Wow. The bartend is amazing and the pianist that comes in is breathtaking.
A. M.
DJ was pretty average. Cool but boring
T. D.
This is an excellent underground late-night cocktail bar. It isn't cheap, but there's a premium to be paid for being cool!
S. M.
Very quick service. Getting used to this way of life.
O. J.
If you visit this place, google won't stop harassing you to review it. Having said that, it was an excellent place with good cocktails, the clove one was a little clovey though, just a little.
B. W.
Although great music and atmosphere, the bar is way too small. However I did have a good night.
L. P.
Enjoyed the concept but execution did not hit the mark. Poor acoustics and terribly slow service.
A. P.
One of the many converted toilet bars now popping up in London. Ingenious cocktails and a cozy space with live piano too!
R. J.
Liked it, great range of drinks but a bit on the pricey side
L. K.
Was a public toilet before, so well done for reconverting it to a trendy bar in Bermondsey
Cocktail bar and live music. Worth a visit.
F. R.
Nice cocktails and staff but feels more cosy nightclub than cocktail bar
M. Z.
Lovely cocktail bar. Affordable prices, great jazz and decent service.
J. W.
My birthday stomping ground.
A. L.
£6.19 for a 330ml bottle of Asahi! Otherwise a nice setting but that's just silly
T. L.
Very cool cocktail bar. Great for a date or just hanging out with friends
B. C.
Expensive but top quality drinks and a cosey, sensual place to enjoy with your partner.
L. W.
Really cosey location with great staff and awesome cocktails! Really loved the live music.
S. P.
Beautiful bar, but be prepared to pay through the nose for a cocktail.
H. D.
Very friendly staff when they were about to host a party but drinks are very, very pricey
C. B. F.
Amazing bar! Looking forward to their Winter menu launch (we had a sneak peak)...
T. S.
Chilled out, cool, secret atmosphere. Small, intimate with delicious cocktails. Highly recommended.

C. S.

P. C.

E. C.
A very nice little spot, perfect for a romantic night. Bar tenders are friendly
A. B.
Very loud and quite hot in summer but a good place to take mates who haven't experienced how weird London is.
B. N.
I really enjoyed the unusual setting, and the cocktails were delish
D. T.
Way too expensive, without a doubt the most expensive public loo. But some of the cocktails are really good.
N. B.
Lovely hidden gem! Beautifully crafted cocktails and nice vibe.
M. C.
So much fun! Love that it is hidden. Often has live music.
T. C.
Feels kinda cool being hidden under a road junction, but ultimately it's slightly dark, noisy, and pricey, and doesn't have anything to hugely commend it.
T. A.
Not as good as it used to be. Disappointing that the bouncer didn't seem to care about drug use.
J. L.
One of those hidden gems. Nice cocktails, cosy little place.
m. b. m.

(Translated) I didn't really like the place, I had better expectations of how it would be. It is small and the cocktail selection is ok, but it was empty (maybe it was too early) and it did not inspire to stay and continue drinking.
(Original)
No me gusto el sitio la verdad, tenía mejores expectativas de como sería. Es pequeño y la selección de cócteles está ok, pero estaba vacío (quizás era muy temprano) y no inspiraba quedarse a seguir bebiendo.

(Translated) Absolutely fantastic place! Thanks Luca
