Reviews of Gordon's Wine Bar
T. T.
Lovely wine bar with the indoors bar section in a cellar or maybe cave that’s so well lit and nicely decorated. Being in here feels like I had taken a trip to the past. The wine selection was spot on, great recommendations by the gentlemen that serve at the bar. To top, the cold cut and cheese was one of the best I’ve ever had. Due to the popularity, you might expect to queue for a bit but it will worth it. We are definitely coming back for a dining experience. Highly recommend.
E. R.
I would happily rate them over 5 stars for their down to earth customer service. Mr Tony was such a happy face who made our long wait super pleasant. His enthusiasm was so infectious and made us return back the next day. In fact that holds true for the other staff as well. Ms Bruni was absolutely stunning with her recommendations. She made us sample few based on the preference and wow we enjoyed the wines. She served us with such involvement that we enjoyed our evenings. It’s always important when the service is exceptional and this place just exceeds expectations. Mr Marin was also fabulous with chatting to us and his service. This atmosphere is quite ancient and provides space for cosy talks. This is most certainly one of the fabulous wine spots in the city. Both the indoor and outdoor spacing is generous and so are the waiting times.

A favourite place for a date night! Love the great variety of alcohol they offer and the location is fantastic. The place it’s extremely beautiful with its vintage decorate and cozy look. Love going back there once in a while!
N.
Somewhat mixed feelings about this one. I believe this place has the potential to be great but needs some carefully considered changes.
The venue only allows outdoor seating at the moment which is a shame.
The wine has a massive mark up, the bottle we ordered was 3x the price it retails for. This in itself wouldn't be an issue if the service and quality reflected the price point.
Service was ok, but no one really told anything about the wines, the menu doesn't include the vintage which is odd and when they're closing the security runs up and down shouting how much time you have left, when the last chance to use the facilities is etc. and this shouting spectacle happens every 10-15minutes during the last hour. I'm sure it could be done in more pleasant manner.
On the positive side, the selection of wine is decent and there are some nice wines available. The indoor space looks nice - if only it was used. There are heaters outdoors so you won't be freezing. All in all I had a good time and enjoyed good wine but it wasn't positively influenced by the venue.

Great tasting wine bar in the centre of London with amazing untouched interiors. It feels like you are back in 1890 with the vaulted ceilings and candlelight tables. The prices have been going up so perhaps not as good value as it used to be. But great selection of wine and cheese to choose from.
J. W.
Cracking place to sit and enjoy the evening. Great wine menu and a cheese fridge to cure any calcium deficiency! Will definitely go back.
S. F.
This is the best wine bar in town. Expect it to be overly busy at peak times. It's worth the wait. £30 bottles as well as cheaper and wayyy more expensive if that's the vibe. Don't recommend for tourists as there's no bookings but if you chance upon a decent table you're in for a great time. Cheese and food is great if slightly limited. Last real boozer in central? You tell me.
L. W.
My first visit to Gordon’s after a friend has been recommending it for years and it did not disappoint! Such a wonderful experience, friendly staff and great ambience. Wonderful selection of cheese and charcuterie, generous portions and love the cheese and suggested wine pairings listed on the menu. Will definitely be visiting again.
G. S.
This place never disappoints. Fantastic wine and food. The heaters outside keep you nice and toasty in the winter months. Definitely in my top 5 fav’ London bars
E. R.
Always been a fan of Gordon's and was happy to see this weekend that it was even easier to get a table. The service team were incredibly efficient with clearing tables and letting the doorman know to send people down.
Food and wine delicious- as always!

I've been coming here for 15 years and it stays the same. You cant say that about too many places. Lovely setting. It's romantic and unassuming. Have had a lot of profound conversations, heartbreaks, and a lot of laughter in this place. You could write a book about this place. Set in a cave underneath a train station. Perfect little darkly lit wine cellar. Zero pretense, really great staff that truly look after you, and a wine list that's perfect. Sit back and enjoy yourself. Cheers to Gordon's.

Our first time here, we went with friends who had been here before & loved it. We had really good time with great wine & a sharing platter of food. We will definately be returning. All the staff were really friendly & helpful which all adds to the experience.
C. J.
Absolutely love this place - insane wine collection (The Provence is my fave) and a load of cheese and meat boards to cheese from… bit of a hidden gem but somewhere you’ll keep going back once you’ve been!!
A.
Compact and height restricted if yer 5,10 and over lol.
Not deigned for tge modern tall person but if you were established in 1690 that isn't going to come into your design!!
Great wine bar with a great selection and superb chesse and meat board's
Great place to visit and explore wil defo come again, the cellar experience is a must.
D. G.
Has been here forever and hopefully it will be here for a long time to come.
The inside is old and has lots of atmosphere and getting into it is a challenge, so go early and have a boozy afternoon, which will blend into evening and late night, as you will have no daylight, but excellent wine.
Outside they have expanded and expanded and you get comfortable seating, heaters and wine.
Food is simple and nothing to complain about
Prices are reasonable, especially for central London.
Staff are hard working and service is good.
All and all well worth it.
s. l.
Great service excellent wine and cheese variety 👌 very relaxing place to chill
K. N.
Great wines by the glass or bottle, one of the best wine bars in London.
Nice food.
Great front of house staff.

This was our first time at Gordon’s and YOU have to visit! It is a lovely little spot with amazing wine, food and service! The ambience was cozy and charming with seating inside a cave! The staff was extremely knowledgeable and make great recommendations - special shout out to Maga! He was super helpful and had a great energy about him!
Highly recommend this place! 😊

Easy walking distance from Embankment tube and Charing Cross stations. Can be very busy and you'll have to queue outside. There's an outside "terrace" (bit cold this time of year even though tables have hearers). Inside has two areas to sit, one's quite bright the ither darkish, but both cosy. Watch out fie low ceilings!! Wines are nice and not too badly priced. Only ever had the cheese platter which is really nice.
S. A.
We’ve been there twice now. Great for bringing people from out of town. If you’re from mainland Europe everything will taste mild. Start queuing before 18:00. It can get quite noisy inside. Overall a very good place for a date.
N. P.
Last night was my second time at Gordon's Wine Bar, and the experience was amazing as the first time. The staff were not only efficient but very friendly and made my friend and I feel really at ease. We were served by Marin and Simone Z, who were again super helpful and Marin even took the time to explain to us the different sherries and port available. I definitely will be coming back!
M. C.
Used to absolutely love Gordon's. It was probably my favourite place to go!
I have to say however that my last visit post-Covid was a little disappointing.
The prices have gone up (not too much of a surprise) but now as they have staff taking orders there is a 10% service charge added to every purchase.
I didn't realise until after our second wine as I just tapped to pay. A little cheeky I think seeing as this was never a thing before.
Also as the cheese is now prepared in the kitchen the portion sizes have reduced quite a bit which is a real shame, especially for £18.50 for 3 (£20.35 w/service charge).
I'd say 2 portions of cheese are now the same as 1 was before the pandemic.
As well as that you can no longer serve your own condiments etc so those portions are severely reduced (4 pickled onions on our plate).
I know you can ask for more bread and condiments etc but it was just less hassle before.
Still a good place but just not the great place and experience it was pre-Covid :(
Would be so great if when all restrictions end they would go back to serving the cheese as they used to and just bar service for the wine etc.
Worked for decades before the pandemic and was the best place to go!
S. D.
A wonderful wine bar in the heart of London. A massive selection of wine, and friendly staff. Feels friendly, romantic, sophisticated and chilled all in one place.
A short walk from the Thames, and easy to access by Tube.

One of the best nights that I’ve spent in London. Bryan could possibly be the most charismatic, competent and charming waiter that I’ve come across in many years of travels. Thank you and your staff for the night that we have passed.
J. S.
Lovely place to find for a laid-back afternoon drink. Service very good, prices as you might expect. Strictly for a lovely treat!
A. S.
Love this place! The food and the wine are amazing, and the vibe too - a mix between being 100 years back and feeling like you eating in southern Europe. It’s always super busy and depending the day the service is a bit slow. But its worth to go!
J. S.
Loved the place and ambiance! Great wine selection and food to go with it
A. A.
Great place with character. Service was good. Good Wine and food selection. Highly recommended for those that love to enjoy a place that has history.
S. S.
Wondered why people queuing along the railings so joins in. Great atmospheric wine bar in the vaulted cellar of old building. Felt like back in Victorian London with loads of history around you. Glad to find that this is a proper wine establishment & not a gimmick
J. L.
This is our favourite bar if you can get seated in the cellar. I loved it so much that I decided to propose to my girlfriend in the celler. We both received a resounding applause when she accepted and complimentary champagne from the manager. We want to thank the manager so much for this lovely gesture and the patrons of Gordon's wine bar. It means the world to me and my new fiance.
G. S.
Exquisite wine experience in a natural cave cellar; table options outside also available. French-like style wine tasting with cheese, Baggett, etc. finger food.
Totally recommended, but the place doesn't do reservations.
S. R.
Good wine bar close to Embankment and Victoria Gardens Park. Good atmosphere, staff very good adding to the atmosphere. Wine and food ( platters and small plates) very Good and not too silly prices considering where it is.
W. W.
One of Westminster's favourite haunts, and for good reason - Gordon's has great atmosphere, good wines and a decent selection of foods to accompany them. Grabbing a table inside is well worth the queue.
M. S.
Great service and a really unique wine list! This was the first time I've had wine from India. The staff were super kind, especially the outside bouncer who watched the drink of a single lady while she went to the restroom to make sure nothing sketchy happened while she was away. Heated outdoor space with separate smoking and non-smoking. 100% recommended.
A. D.
Love this wine bar; always a treat if you're lucky enough to get in. Cozy nooks and crannies, great location and fantastic wine selection.
N. L.
If you like casual pub and like informal venue, you will love this place. Inside locate under the cave, so could be bit noisy especially if someone has loud voice. I prefer outside sitting, usually very busy but you can share the table with strangers! Need to order wine and food inside the bar, self-service!
S. P.
Excellent wine bar very close to Embankment/Charing Cross stations.
Atmospheric cellar bar with vaulted ceiling, candlelight and framed old newspaper cuttings. Plus a good number of tables available outside, if the weather is kind.
Great wine list, and the prices aren't extortionate. We didn't eat on this occasion, but the range of cheese, cold meats etc. looked good.
G. T.
Fabulous semi-hidden wine bar right in the centre of the Westend - do not miss out! The white and pink port are a must, along with the cheese boards but above all else the staff are genuinely lovely. Look out for Tony at the entrance and Amr the waiter - both brilliant!
R. D. W.
Oldest wine bar in London with great wine and food selections. I wish I would've been able to sit inside! This place was slammed, nonstop, inside and outside. Definitely the coolest part of the bar is the very dark, low ceiling, previous warehouse section. I was there for awhile and those seats went fast. The patio area is huge, and even that was totally full. Be prepared to wait to sit and/or go early if you're a group. Worth it! If you love wine, this is a must.
L. H.
A nice location and quick service but we were served a bottle of white wine with no ice bucket on the hottest day of the year! I had to ask twice before I got one. Wine was nice
G. l. e. P.
Stunning hiding place for nice wines, cheese boards in smugglers arches. Drink in history!🍷🍷🧀
S. C.
First visit in ages. We squeezed into a corner of the brick arched interior. Even on a Tuesday night there was a buzzy atmosphere. Love the huge choice of wines, ports and sherries by the glass.
My companions also demolished a plate of Stilton served with butter and warm bread.
Gordon's is a treasure.
M. B.
Had a great time! Wine selection was good, and the downstairs is very cool! Also, thanks to Emma for her great customer service :)
R. S.
Great place, prices are borderline reasonable for the location, wine list and menu are good
S. W.
Went to check out this place as I'd heard great things. However got stuck in a pretty long line to get in, which could have been super frustrating if not for the security guard, Leon, who went through the line informing us of wait times and making an effort to get us in, with a good dose of entertainment and charm. Ended up enjoying some delicious wine and cheese platters, great ambience and friendly staff. Leon even stopped by our table for a chat and to make sure we were looked after. I have since been back and always have an excellent experience!
A. J.
I first came here following an invitation from one of my classmates, it was my first week in London. Ever since, I visited this place quite often, as it has everything a good wine bar has - fun vibes, beautiful settings, amazing outdoor area, and of course, a great selection of wines and delicious food. The most unique thing about this place is the decoration and architecture of the indoor area, see photos to understand what I'm referring to.
G. M.
Been going here for years. Inside it's famous for its low-ceilinged candle lit cellars. It has grown with its reputation to accommodate extensive outside seating and the toilets have been vastly improved!
The cheese board is no longer the treat it used to be, measly portions of cheese and a tiny amount of bread.
G. C.
What a magic place! I love the vibes, perfect for a date or for an elegant friends gathering. Wine and food options are great, tall people must be careful entering in the vault area as they might hit their head 🤣
P. M.
A must visit when in London. 2 very nice glasses of wine and a mixed platter. Lovely food, great location and great service. Will be back.
S. K.
Nice atmosphere and great selection of wines and cheese.
L. H.
Delicious lunch, I had heaps of roast beef with 4 different salads & a glass of wine. We sat outside and it was gorgeous. Really beautiful inside. So so old and dark and romantic.
M. B.
The prices are London-y but the selection is good and the staff and the atmosphere is great. Great heaters for cold and rainy days too
T. N.
I've not been to Gordon's in years, and I can safely say it is as worth a visit as ever.
This was an old haunt of mine during my uni days, when I was near penniless and pretentious. Now that I am no longer a Londoner, it is lovely to go and visit any time I am up in town.
It is a dark charming place, well loved by regulars and tourists.
My most recent visit saw me stopping off at lunch. I would recommend it. Its heaving any time past 6 in the evening. So it was nice to stop at Gordon's over a more peaceful lunchtime. It was easy to get a table, and some food.
I had a few glasses of red, recommended by the barman, since I don't know a great deal about the subject. I can't remember their names, but they were perfectly suited for the cheese board I had.
A cheese board for two cane to £24, with two small glasses of wine being £13. London prices, but not as horrendous as some places I've been too. More importantly, the wine was lovely, as was the food.
I look forward stopping into Gordon's again and again as the years go by. A must visit if your in town.
C.
Great wine selection, knowledgeable staff who are happy to help and a nice choice of cheese and nibbles to go with it all. Perfect for a quiet night with friends.
My only criticism are the prices - yes they have to make a profit but racking up a large bill is a little too easy, the wine prices are fair (better by the bottle) but the cheeses and boards are pretty steep.
O. M.
Iconic bar with real character.
Visited yesterday - professional service from the Irish lady. Recommended.
N. D.
Gordon’s is one of my favourite places in London because it feels so secret and mysterious in the heart of the city. Cheese boards and wine and atmosphere are faultless :)
A. H.
LOVE! lovely place if you can get a spot and a cheese board to die for
P. B.
Great wine bar in a really quirky underground man made cave. I'm 198cm so it's pretty cramped but definitely worth the visit. Get a bottle, some cheeses and drink away. If you are a tourist (as I am) I really recommend this place as it is really different but god fun!
R. U.
I am an American who went to college in London in mid 1970s and have been back many times. Gordon's is by far my favorite place in the world for a great evening. Every time I am there I wish I could bottle the place and bring it home with me. Brilliantly English and drips of history.
E. W.
Always a crowd pleaser! One of my favourite places to bring out of town guests as it feels like you have discovered a secret place in London. Also fun to meet friends after work. Great wine and cheese selection.
M. W.
Good to be back after four months of lockdown. Excellent alfresco seating by the terrace, good affordable wines, generous portions of food and genuinely courteous service from the staff. Life is good!

We went to Gordon’s today. Of course it’s amazing and great wine. But I do object to someone at the bar saying they will serve me at the table and then slapping a service charge on everything. A £17 cheeseboard becomes one for £19 and bottle of wine becomes £5 more. Just annoying.
D. M.
I’m giving 5 stars based on my previous experiences. But this one was not so great. Ordered a scotch egg and a cold scotch egg arrived in a huge salad with bread after waiting 20 mins. I realised they’d charged me £10 for a scotch egg and a cold one at that. I still ate the egg bur probably wouldn’t have been charged that at Claridges. They mistook my order obviously but otherwise the place is great. Tip: double check the waiter knows what you want before ordering.

Some friends and I went there some weeks ago, and we loved it!! The atmosphere is so special and the food was good too! The staff from inside and outside the bar were also very friendly, we will come back for sure!
J. K.
This wine cave is awesome! Apparently it has been in continuous service as a wine bar since 1896....that's a little while (at least back in the US). What a great intimate spot, character (and some moisture) dripping from every corner! The outside seating looked chill as well.... in short brilliant, low key, yummy, elegant....perfection.
S. M. Z.
Lovely atmospheric wine bar with great cheese- and meat-boards (and unlimited sides, though not sure if those are still there!). Always worth a visit.
A. T.
One of my favourite places in London. Good atmosphere, great staff, quaffable wines and tantalising food. It almost feels like a hidden away speakeasy, although it is a bit less anonymous from the street than it used to be.
T. O. T. D. Y.
Fantastic watering hole. Ye Olde tavern. Sherry from the cask and large wine selection. Outragiously good selection of snacks and food. Would not be shocked to see a wizard or a Hobbit dining there.
L. H.
This is my 211th review of a restaurant or bar on Google and my first time where I have to give a huge shoutout to the staff at the door. While we waited for a friend to show we spoke with a gentleman named Leon. He was very welcoming and polite and informed us of any waiting times and made everyone feel welcome. Very friendly, big smile and polite. Wish all door staff were like this.
I have been to too many places where door staff for no particular reason have bad attitudes and put you in a down mood before even going inside but the management here have picked warm and welcoming staff who put a big smile on your face before your night even begins.
The venue is great. We loved our night of cheese and wine.
On the way out Leon even helped me by suggesting which apps I could use as Uber had no drivers available and I wasn’t aware of all the alternatives in the uk.
All the staff were great, venue is great. Had a lovely night. Thank you all.
A. S.
I discovered Gordon’s back in 1989 when Gordon himself was behind the bar.
A narrow dinghy maroon doorway and steep staircase showed the way to an authentic cobwebbed, low ceilinged gloomy Dickensian underworld.
This was London, the embankment and shoe Polish factory area of Victorian London. I could almost feel Bill Sykes and Fagan practising their low arts there.
Surrounded by Edwardian/1950’s newspaper cuttings, old wood panelling and convivial company we drank Tawny port late into the nights.
There was no other place like it. My partner and self made it our local, had the same little table and two chairs for years, Then I managed to take a small group of international students students and all our friends there and still find space.
Alas everyone has since discovered Gordon’s though we still love it.
V. S.
Beautiful place staff is amazing especially Gabriele, who’s if i well remember the terrace manager that welcomed us to the place! He brought us to our seats and I honestly felt like I was home! Definitely recommend the place
S. M.
Made up I got chance to visit this place last week. The last time I tried it was jam packed (as it is most weekends) so a trip to London midweek meant we got a chance to try this place.
Tucked away from any type of tourist trap, or hustle of central London is the oldest wine bar in London "apparently" and what an absolute gem this place is. With its old Victorian decor when you walk in, with the salad and cheese bar right in front of you, to the dungeon cave alcoves where you sit in dim light sipping great plonk and even better cheeses!
We opted for the 3 cheese board and you might think at £17 it's a bit steep, but the sheer amount of cheese and pickles you get really is massive value for money.
The salad and meat bar they offer look amazing too, although we didn't try it, there was plenty of happy faces tucking into what they had to offer.
I'm no wine connoisseur so I'm not going to pretend I know why I'm talking about, but the barman did, I advised I prefferd full bodied red wine, and he advised the house while the cheapest is the best, and it was (to my pallet) delicious!
Going to try and get back there again in the summer, and sitting outside will be great when the weather's nicer.
J. C.
Love this wine bar. Always worth a visit. Amazing selection of wines and great lunches.
H. W.
Didn't know that this was a wet damp musty cellar (obviously the inside part) and I was a bit surprised. But with the good wine, good cheese, candles and good service it all seemed to make sense. Will be coming back and trying the outside too at some point.
l. m.
This is essentially a tourist trap and doesn't take bookings. Very popular for first dates. Huge selection of wine but charcuterie was mediocre. Lots of drunk people smoking outdoors. Better off buying wine from local Tesco and going to the park right next to the bar!
N. M.
Lovely place for cheese and wine but can get busy - no place indoors so had to go outside- nice but need to try inside some time soon
M. B.
Me & my amazing Mrs have been coming here for over 20 years….::.
A surprise visit post covid - & everything is even better -
Amazing service
Amazing staff - especially William
Pork pie …. Yum….
…. &’don’t even mention the Tawny port!!

A unique and characterful place. Great wine and cheese.
M. B.
One of my favourite bars in London. The candlelit darkness makes you feel like you're in another world/time/place and they serve some of the best port around... what's not to love?
S. J.
This hidden gem, located just 2 minutes from Embankment Tube station has long served a good selection of decent wines and good lunches. Don't expect to get a pint here, it is not a pub.
M. K.
found the place randomly on restaurantinlondon.co.uk
i'm going to be honest. i no not like wine.
BUT. Gordon's made me like it.
the atmosphere. the vibe. i felt like i was on a side-street in the middle of Rome with fiat 500s driving by the small cobbled streets.
LOVED IT. and heavily recommend whenever you're by southbank / charing cross!
K. D.
This is a unique venue in a candlelit vault. Wine and fine cheeses a place not to miss if in the area of Westminster you will not be disappointed .
K. E.
The best cheese and wine experience.
J. M.
Atmosphere and wine and cheese board blooming fantastic. Nice to come back and enjoy such a great place. Service brilliant.
T. O.
A gem of a location. If you go, be sure to sit inside. You may need to wait a bit longer, but it's worth it.
Special shout-out to our server Marin - who went out of his way to make sure we had a great evening!
h. s.
Great wine and cheese. So good when the weather is turning and you can sit outside and chill.
D. S.
Wonderful bar and outdoor area with some amazing wines and fantastic cheeses. Only niggle would be to have a sign outside to say to order from the bar as they do not provide table service. Highly recommend getting the gorgonzola as part of your cheese board
F. T.
Excellent for a romantic or a casual date! Great night
R. T.
A rare gem .. great authentic original vaulted wine cellar.. amazing cheese boards and charcuterie.. the wine's not half bad either .. 👍 love everything about this place
S.
Fancy a good glass of wine and a delicious selection of charcuterie and platters to share of any sorts? This is the place you want to go. It's always busy. Always. Get there just before 5pm and enjoy. It's in touristic spot but it's mostly Londoners attending this place.
E. G.
So cool, hard to get a table in the super cool basement but the selection of drinks and plates is totally worthy of a visit anyway <3
T. H.
Great selection of wine, fab service & lots of outdoor seating with heaters - perfect for a crisp winter evening
J. H.
Everything you could ever hope for in a wine bar.. great wine, great cheese/ fresh bread and ambiance to die for. Plus some <3
S. H.
So great- the oldest wine bar in the U.K.! Amazing selection of wine. Inside or outside, both great! We drank a bottle of Fat Bastard Pinot Noir and bought one off license when leaving (20% cheaper when not sitting in)
We also got a charcuterie board which was excellent! Well priced all around.
Although it’s a prime tourist spot it’s a great spot for Londoners to go (and we/they do)!
Highly recommend visiting!
M. P.
Always a lovely experience, both the alleyway on a sunny day or hunker down in the cellars. Great date venue too, a little different.
G. G.
Very nice wine bar with a huge selection of ofcourse wines. But also very tasty ports and good deals of tasty wines in 375ml size.
If you get the chance zit inside in the (I think) old wine cellar part which enhances the experience . But mind you you're not the only one.
Oh and service of the staff is great to.
Must see whilst in London
(Glogger Guus on his world tour)
D. Z.
Leo is the best waiter in the world!
He made Lacey’s night by thinking she was English!
J. R.
What a unique wine bar. In cellars with only candles for lighting. A truly one-off experience
m. g.
Great atmosphere if you can a table inside downstairs. Dark Cosy, historic and authentic.
M. W.
Loved it, wine and cheese bar. Seating in a dark cellar is quite an experience. I will definitely be back!

A veritable institution for 130 years.
Charming wine bar with a great terrace area, great choice of wines and a wonderful meat and cheese platter.
S. E. F.
The best wine bar i have ever been to!! Its in the basement and its all like a cave with candles. Amazing atmosphere and ideal for a romantic date!! We had a bottle of wine and we couldn't stop admiring that unique bar! 100% recommended!!
R. H.
Is my second time in this place. I was there for NYE and the best thing is that we did not pay anything to come in. And from there we saw the fireworks of the London eye! We had delicious cheese, and wine and the people working there are very friendly! We had a lot of fun! And I recommend arriving early to have a table inside!
G.
Best place for wine in London. Very cosy, you can grab really good cheese as well, big wine selection and the wine is exceptional. The environment was very cool. The only thing is you need to be lucky to have a seat but really worth it even if you don’t get one! I would recommend this place as a must to visit in London!
A. P.
Went on Saturday night with 8 friends after dinner in Covent Garden. Was struggling to find somewhere where we would fit and surprisingly managed to find a table which was unexpected .. thought would be doing a barrel lean at best!
The wine was good as ever.
The only top tip I have developed over the years is when there is a queue just walk past and got round the left of the pillar to the bar. Means you get served pretty much immediately. Oh and avoid the toilets if you can .. they are not nice by the end of the night!
T. &. Z. H.
Sat on the outside terrace this visit & had an enjoyable bottle of wine & cheese board . However , think it's far more atmospheric indoors .
S. K.
Very busy wine bar with good buzz although when we visited only outside seating was available, so there was nothing actually wine bar like about it. It's just an outside bar with wine. Cheese platters good, wines just OK. Not bad value.
P. C.
Really quirky bar with amazing cellar rooms. Not great if you are tall but definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.
B.
Unique experience. This pub is a must try in London. They have a good choice of wine and cheese at an affordable price. The pub smells a bit odd (not beer but cheese and humidity). It's very crowded on saturday nights from 6PM, but if you're 2 I think it'd be a great place. For larger groups, you'll have to cross your fingers. Very charing and unique place, and I quite enjoyed it.
I. R.
This place is amazing as an experience. Excellent selection of wines but there's nothing else to drink. Great cheeses and ambiance. Always full!
R. B.
Lovely Sunday cheese board and red wine. Relaxed atmosphere, attentive staff.
P. G.
Great place, pity Gerard is not manager anymore!
J. C.
Beautiful and unique setting with an excellent choice of high quality wines, nibbles, cheese and charcuterie boards
C. H.
By far the best wine bar in London. If you are looking to beat the crowds go midweek for lunch.
The charcuteries are a must! The knowledge that the man there has is amazing. He asks what wine you have and recommends cheeses that will pair with it
The wine is equally delicious I had the server recommend his favorite and it was amazing.
The atmosphere is really a win. Make sure to go early though if you want a table.
D. R.
Great wine, lovely cheese and friendly staff
A. F.
One of the most unique bars you can visit - underground - dimly lit and an insane wine list with cheese to match - I am hesitant to give 5 stars because I don’t want to make it any harder to get a table - actually one star off for having to wait for a table - no good system for that
J. W.
This is a really cool bar located slightly away from all main hussle of the very centre of London. If you want a table on a Friday or a Saturday you will need to book as we went on a Sunday and it was still fairly busy.
Great selection of drinks not sure about the food because we only went for a drink. Awesome set up inside and outside and very lovely staff.
Highly recommended.
A. O.
Unique place for wine. Went for lunch. Food was good, and the wine was decent. I would say you go for the atmosphere though rather than the wine...
K. A.
Have been to Gordon's wine bar many times and loved every visit.
The layout is brilliant and I absolutely love the dark hidden room which adds to the atmosphere. All candle lit and is perfect.
The servings are generous (food and drink) and taste amazing.
I could write so much about this place but the you just have to visit to really appreciate it.
S. J.
Sat outside on a wet evening but actually under the heaters was really nice. The inside cave is atmospheric!
A. A.
Huge wine menu, excellent atmosphere afterwork. Good selection of cheeses and really nice decoration in the caves inside.
There's also a big terrace outside mostly covered.
T. N.
Amazing place for tourists to take photos of themselves in an authentic subterranean London wine cellar.
Amazing place for cheese and wine lovers to indulge in a variety of fromage and vino from around the World.
Good atmosphere and great setting.
F. M.
I just love everything about this place. Outside is lovely, even in winter as there are heaters, inside is amazing and lovely and cozy in winter too. Wine amazing, fondue amazing, cheese amazing, staff amazing. Go as soon as you can is the best advice.
K. D.
Lovely atmosphere and fab staff even when they were busy and short staffed. Wine is always amazing here.
S. B.
Shared a few cheeky bottles of red with some friends in the extensive outdoor area, which was surprisingly cosy despite the chilly weather. Wine was relatively well priced, with bottles from 20£ upward. We enjoyed some bread and cheeses too, and I am keen to go back for dinner in their very cosy looking restaurant indoors.
B. M.
Great wine and awesome atmosphere.
Perfect for a 1st date
G. S.
Noise, quirky and lively place. Does drip from the ceiling in the tunnels but part of the charm.

Good service, great wine selection and the venue is very special. However, the baguettes weren't fresh unfortunately and the water glasses smelled
K. G.
WoW 🤲
I've frequented lots of wine bars in my time but have mysteriously missed this gem. The cheese, yet a little expensive for £19 for a choice of three, but good portions, were great. The wine, obviously their money spinner was actually quite reasonable. Go and enjoy...I will for sure 5*👍🏼
J. C.
Fantastic place, great wine, great food.
Inside is like a really little hide away from the world in the catacombs.
Wine and food by candle light, perfect.
Big outdoor are too to enjoy and under cover too!!
C. S.
Lovely place with a huge wine menu. If money is short go there just for a glass of wine. Some tables are placed in a little claustrophobic room but it's part of what makes the bar amazing
A. G.
Lovely wine, lovely cheese, good service, will visit again.
O. K.
Great location, good wine selection and tasty cold platters.
K. J.
Good wine selection with delicious cheeses and cured meats. Thank you
J. M.
Must visit place of in London. Descend into the depths of a good bootle of red and a plate of delicious cheeses
V. H.
Waited an hour to get a table, but once inside had a great time with our friends.
The wine and food was delicious!
Sadly we couldn't sit inside due to the covid restrictions, but they have overhead heaters.
B. D.
Love this place. Great prices on wine. Charcuterie was a bit overpriced but it was fantastic Atmosphere both inside and outside are very cool. Our favorite find in London
R. C.
Fun place to meet and get a lite bite. Good selection of cheese, Mezze and wines for all budgets
N. N.
This is one of my favourite places in London. Beverage wise they only serve wine but good wine and great sharing platters. It's always busy and the atmosphere is buzzing. Good for all ages!
K. S.
This bar is magical. Over the years I have come back to the hunt so often, the service is always great and the atmosphere is unlike anything close by.
Having a gorgeous bottle of wine and a cheese board is highly recommended. Their food hits the spot every time.
Please note this is a wine bar in every sense. No beer. No cocktails. No spirits.
E. H.
Epic historical place found in London.
Over 100yrs and interior just showed how this restaurant came through
The cave inside was just the right place to sip wine
V. P.
Always such a pleasure coming to Gordon's especially after such a long lockdown in London. Although a queue to get in, that's because no one wants to leave! The outdoor heaters are amazing, no need to book in advance and always lovely wines on offer. The food always looks delicious. I will definitely be back!
M. R.
Cutiest place EVER!!! Very authentic food, atmosphere, and good prices. Very popular with the locals. Only thing is that it's hard to find and it could be cleaner.
M. T. M.
My favorite place for wine and cheese in old cave atmosphere.
D. E.
Plenty of space in a normally crowded cellar. Which is, in it's own way, a shame as part of the guilty pleasure of Gordon's is the chance to end sat at a table taking to strangers. The white rioja was a good as ever. The staff & security were friendly and swift which must be sometimes difficult at the moment.
D. C.
It was OK, but really overpriced. Even for central London extortionate. Great atmosphere though.

A former purlieu of one Rudyard Kipling. It remains largely unchanged since his time - or so I'm informed. It survived the Blitz intact (possibly because it's underground). It's not an inexpensive place, that's for certain (small port wine = £6), but you're paying for a great experience in a unique place. The food is good too. Nothing too flashy. Has a home-cooked feel. The decor consists of flaking paintings, yellowing newspaper covers and creaky old furniture. Step back in time to old London! It can get busy. Afternoons are best - pretty chilled.
J. G.
Fantastic cellar wine bar under the arches. Great wine selection and amazing cheeses (with recommended wine pairings). It can get very busy, for good reason!
S.
Oldest wine bar in London, or so they claim. A must visit if you enjoy a good glass (or bottle) of wine. It gets very busy even during the week. They also serve food or cold meats, cheese etc.
C. M.
In the tops of my favorite things I've done in London. The website makes it look fancier than it is. Good prices, surprising selection, and one of the more unique pub atmospheres you'll see in this life. Dark and cave-like. It's perfect. I don't want to spoil the surprise. Go earlier than you think you need to go in order to secure a seat. Don't forget to order some cheese, and a dry Madeira.
A. K.
Amazing quirky location, great atmosphere, friendly service and great wines.
p.
Updated me review based on my visit a couple of days ago. Still a fantastic wine bar but they appear to have changed the way you are served and there is a ‘gratuity charge’ attached to your bill. Staff will insist on table service but don’t make you aware that you can purchase direct from the bar. Even if you do go to the bar, one of the waiters will approach you and take your order, adding a service charge to your bill (10%). We found this a little cheeky as this isn’t made clear to you and it’s in very small print at the bottom of the menu. It is discretionary and you can ask for it to be removed, but I just wanted to make people aware as this caught us out.
S. N.
Great ambiance. Wonderful place for a date or to hang out with friends. Appropriately priced menu
T. K.
One of my top 5 places I recommend when my friends and family come to the city and visit. It’s a unique place that, if you find a seat, you’ll want to spend all night at. The character of this place, candles, antiques etc, is what makes it in addition to the underground running by every so often( the bar predates the tube obviously) Even if you can’t find a place to sit down you can peak your head in and take a look at the atmosphere. Well worth it
M. E.
Living off on its laurels from past, and its location and reputation. Dirty, almost no service, mediocre quality of food selections, you really need to pay up if you have an only slightly discerning wine taste. Good atmosphere, interesting indoors, jovial terrace. Set your expectations low and go for experience.
A. K.
Great selection of wine and Sherry. Does get busy so you might have to wait for a table, if your ok to sit outside in winter then you'll find a seat!
S. M.
Fantastic place to go found it by mistake . Very busy but looks like it's the place to be...
Do fantastic cheese boards for sharing. Very romantic
E. C.
We visited Gordon's Wine Bar back in early March (pre-COVID shutdown) and I had to come back to leave a review because we had such a great time here!
Wine and cheese were delicious and the vibe of the cave was just spectacular. My family can't stop talking about how it was one of the best parts of our trip to London. We can't wait to come back!
A. S.
Seated in the cellar type area, had a great atmosphere to it. Great variety of wines and not too badly priced. Service was very good too.
J. A.
One of the most unique bars in London, set in an old candlelit wine cellar. A great selection of reasonably priced wines. Limited seating inside though but a decent outdoor area.
V. K.
One of the coolest bars in town that’s for sure. Well located and reasonably priced snacks and drinks this is a great meeting place with friends. Easy to find and quaint in every way. A must when in London!
M. R.
Amazing place. Been here 4 times and it just gets better every time
R.
Cosy vibe and good selection of port and sherry.
G. H.
Gordon’s is one of my favourite places in London and post lockdown there is even more seating - more heaters and new bathrooms! The outstanding selection of wines and great service remains unchanged. They aren’t taking bookings - but it’s well worth queuing to get a table.
M. D.
The atmosphere is fantastic, the wine and cheese boards are delicious, and it is a beautiful little place. Everyone should pay a visit to Gordon's. Inside can get very packed, so I would recommend getting there early if you want a table underground. Otherwise, there is a nice terrace area outdoors.
M. D.
Get here early (pre 5pm) so avoid waiting in a queue.
Staff are very friendly, accommodating and chatty.
I would recommend sitting outside for larger groups even in winter because there are heaters and shelter to keep you toasty and dry. It's much more intimate and romantic indoors but a bit tight.
The food wasn't spectacular for what you pay but people don't come here to eat. Drinks are competitively priced so all is forgiven!
Would definitely recommend and revisit!
K. M.
Great wine bar, tasty cheeses and lovely staff.
R. M.
A London staple - great wine menu and the cheese boards are consistently good too. Reasonably priced for the quality, and a lovely place to be (whether sitting outside or inside).
L. A.
Gordon's wine bar exceeded our expectations. We arrived and sat outside, then remembered it's known for its old interior. Asked for a seat inside and got taken into the tunnel section - wow! So beautiful, so ambient, so acoustic. Very romantic, even for friends. Wine was very good and good recommendations. Cheese options on point and cheese of the month was creamy magic. Service was brilliant. Definitely going back
M. N.
The oldest wine bar in London, this place is an incredible experience. Just being in the bar makes you feel the history, and then there's wine too!
L. F.
Thank you for letting me in with very wet hair.
Excellent experience, £25 bottles of house white and possibly the best pork pie I have ever eaten!
Grazie
A. D.
Delicious wine and gourmet cheeses while in an old wine cellar! Super unique and one of a kind place!
M. T.
One of my favourite places to gave a wine in London. The house wine is really good too.
T. W.
This hidden away gem is popular with Londoners. It is often hard to find a seat outside but well worth the effort. Buy wine and add delicious cheeses for a relaxing afternoon.
C. S.
Popular for a reason, great selection of wine and food for reasonable prices for the quality
J. D.
Love this place. It’s super dark and all candlelit which is great for a date if you’re worried you didn’t do your makeup well OR if you are just super hungover like I was and can’t face a bright cafe! The wine and cheese boards are 👌
K. R. G.
This is a gem. Come for wine and cheese and just hang out and make friends. If you’re lucky enough to sit inside the cellar is a dope place to sit and enjoy your visit. If you’re outside be careful for the birds lol.
I. H.
The best place to grab a cheese plate and a bottle of wine in London. It’s a popular spot so be sure to get ready to scope out a seat for you and your friends on the weekend. Recommendation: ask for extra bread when getting the cheese plate. Yummmm! 🙂
T. G.
Classic London wine bar. Amazing inside the low walled arches. Lovely outside when the weather is good. Great wine and sharing food too
l.
Huge wine bar with outdoor standing, seating & bar area. It can get packed after work, & service could be a bit slow, but good vibe & selection of wines & olives.
B. G.
Love the atmosphere here. Amazing selection of wines
M. L.
Place looks really cool, food is also great
P. F.
Wonderful place of tapas. Old cellar of wine from the Queen. Magic atmosphere and nice cheese and wines.
A. J.
Great underground venue, amazing look & decor. Great wine also helps 😂
B. B.
Very atmospheric, wine servered quickly. Friendly service.
K. M.
Loved this place, new found drinking and eating hole, just over the walking bridge from Waterloo, just past the pier, and what a great place, wine was just delicious to the tastebuds, as was the food, more to follow
C. G.
A very enjoyable experience! Have been passing it for years, but finally made a point of going in. Great selection and range of pricing. Was recommended a wine by the waiter. Would definitely recommend, great atmosphere.
L. S.
Nice outdoor space to have a wine after a long work day👌🏻
B. T.
Lovely staff, quick and professional service with good vibes.
Well adapted the new reopening, don't need to download any apps or anything, just register to their free WiFi (took half minute).
The cheese selection is amazing and tasty, quality wine, never disappoint.
One of the places we are looking forward to return 😊
D. P.
A great place with very friendly staff, exceptional management, wines out of this planet and now table service that makes it so much easier!!! I just love it, we are regulars at the wine bar as it meets all out demands- exquisite wine and cheese and baguettes, as well as lively atmosphere. Perfect for every evening, quiet one or a night out.
B. J.
Fantastic place! Whiled away an afternoon tasting various wines and enjoying the anti pasta offerings. Atmosphere is unique / classic with the "cave" room my choice if you can get a table / seat.
Staff was not overly friendly, but willing to help in selecting the few wines we ended up drinking.
Would recommend to anyone! Enjoy!
A. T.
I had one of the low sulfite red wine, very easy to drink and not as dry
You can ask to have the cheese and wine matched.
D. C.
One of my favourite places to eat and drink in London. Fantastic selection of wine, and the cheese boards are to die for.
J. D. V.
Strangely enough I enjoy it more now than before. With fewer tables in the 'cave', it's an even better experience than before. Outside is great as ever. Incredible selection of wine and great food. Absolute must.
S. D.
The blonde waitress was EXCELLENT helpful and attentive. The sharer and wine we had was SUPERB!.
However. The cleaning of 90%!! Of tables after customers moved on was nigh on non existent!. People were just sitting down straight after others. NO tables or chairs being wipped. NOT acceptable in todays covid times. Come on GORDONS, you are better than this.
J. W.
Great place and atmosphere.
Excellent wine and cheese.plate
D. R.
I appreciate fully it's a wine bar, it's in the name but...come on... No beer, lager or spirits...😲... Very good service though and my gf enjoyed the drink she had.
K. S.
A genuine highlight of London. Drinking in a converted wine cellar with an epic wine list and lovely service. Would 100% recommend!
L. C.
Dear Gordon’s. I love you! Had the best experience last Sunday celebrating my friends birthday. Probably the only place to have actually improved due to covid regulations, thanks to their top notch, friendly team working super hard to ensure your wine glass was never empty and service was super quick. Effective cover and heating that kept us warm and dry enough to stay a few hours. Great atmosphere as ever.
Well done Gordon’s for making the challenges of covid operations a seamless change from a customer perspective. Can’t wait to come back!!! Thank you guys!! <3
J. K.
One of the hottest & cozy places of the city. Always busy but somewhere you will find a place to stay. Nice vibes !
G. C.
It's been a while since we were last able to visit which is a shame. We just had a bottle of wine and some hunks of cheese and bread for lunch. Surprisingly good value for such a great unusual place. Its one of those places you can't help telling your friends about.
A. O.
This is my favourite place in London for a quite, intimate beverage. Fantastic wine, amazing service and great atmosphere. It can be difficult getting a table in the 'bunker' however.
E. K.
Great concept of ambience and atmosphere. Fun. Good selection of wine. But please invest in a proper wine glass for red and whites
P. B.
Wine is excellent, arriving at the table with bottle already opened is weird. Wouldn't put me off going again though.
A. D. T.
A unique and historical place in the heart of london.
Great choices of wine...and very romatic atmosphere.
It's one of those place where you Must go at least once.
A. L.
Wide selection of wines and cheeses. Extremely cozy, unexpected fun. It is worth trying Madeira and others.
K. K.
Great place, introduced to me by one of best friends whose husband happens to own a wine bar. Definitely try the sherry if you are in to that kind of tipple. Generous portions and amazingly curated.
This is a very busy place. If you are set on bagging a table in the cave then find a day to clock off early and hit it in the early afternoon on a week day, thus beating the lunch and after work rush.
E. F.
Great wine, great cheese, great atmosphere. Perfect
z. p.
EXCEPTIONAL. Our experience at Gordons was the best we've had anywhere to date in London. The Cave was transcient, truly romantic in evrry sense of the word and the staff went above and beyond to make our experience a great one. We went for a wine and cheese tasting (available on their site). Both the wine and cheese was out of this world. Our server Maga (said with a strong french accent) was by far one of the best i've ever encountered. He made our anniversary that much better. Thank you Gordons Wine bar team!!
P. N.
We arrived on a busy weeknight, right during rush hour. The staff was friendly, and warm. The cave like inside was full, so we ventured out to the outdoor tables. The heat lamps made us want to stay! It's a great place for a glass or bottle. It's a great oasis from the busy streets of London. Prices were fair, and the wine was awesome.
M. D.
This is a very cool place with a fantastic range of wines and a nice selection of platters and meals. However, it is becoming more and more popular with tourists so reserving a table in advance is a good idea. Warning: when in the old wine cellar it can become loud. Particularly if you're sat next to a family of Americans that like to talk about how successful they are.
F. K.
Gordon's is one of the lovliest places we had ever been to for drinking wine and having some nice cheese with friends.
D. S.
Nice little find. Relaxed grown up environment for wine and a cheese board. Will be going back at some stage. Good service.
Z. T.
I love this place. Great wine, some outside seating in summer but the best part is inside, down where the bar is sitting around candlelit tables under the arches with the distant rumble of the trains. Be warned, small place means small number of toilets so time your trip to allow for a queue :)
O. D.
Really cool place! Great wine and good choice of cheese and nibbles. Loved the atmosphere with low ceiling and use of candles on each table to provide lighting, creating a cozy and relaxing spot. Went on a Sunday (no prior booking) with no waiting time at all.
A. B.
Always love this little gem , recommend the cheese board with homemade pork pies made with port ...Best ever
Quite pricey ....but great for a treat
A. M.
Really nice experience. Not very fund of the constant massive queue to get drinks making drinking inside kind of a crowded challenge.
High quality products though !
M. P.
Lovely experience but if you are scared of close proximity to ceiling then not for you and dark
T. W. C. D.
very good selection of cheese and wine. Amazing atmosphere, highly recommended
J. T.
Awesome spot to grab a pint ! It is underground and in a cavern so it feels like you take a step back in the past. They also have a great selection of cheese boards and food
J. D.
Always great. If you can get a table!
R. A.
Old cellar hide away, love it! Came here for the novelty and a glass of wine, but was also impressed with the really generous with the cheese servings!
Y. G.
Gordon's wine bar is an experience, the "cave à vin" like setting with the good selection of wine, charcuterie and cheeses makes it an excellent spot to take close friends to. The place is atypical with a loud atmosphere and musty interiors. It has a cheap and cheerful setting with no frills. Go there for the wine, food and the experience in a cold underground cellar.
H. R.
Thoroughly enjoyed my first visit here. Staff were great, food and wine good value. Well worth a visit.
R. M.
What’s not to love about Gordon’s! Great venue. Good wine. Good crowd. Mind your head if you’re tall only thing to note on the upstairs. Uniquely decorated space inside. Lots of tables and space outside to congregate at. Which is great in the warmer part of the year.
A. B.
Cool place and good wine, long wait to get a table. The view and the vibe is perfect.
J. M.
This place is gem. Getting a table inside is essentially impossible if you arrive after five, but the outside area had good heaters and you can normally grab a decent spot. There's no beer here mind, this is a proper wine bar and you can find excellent bottles and the odd bargain from their guest list of wines. As for food I am a cheese fanatic and the portions here are massive slabs of the stuff, so that's always a winner.
D. M.
Wow what a lovely place. Great wine with matching cheese to go with. Cant recommend enough
L. M.
Amazing place! Been many times with friends visiting London. Great wine. Unique atmosphere!
M. H.
We loved this wine bar! And so did everyone else! (They don’t take reservations with the exception of some large parties.) Be prepared to come early or wait around until someone leaves-you can snag a table if you’re patient. The decor is interesting, the cave-like interior is cozy, and the wine list offered many selections. We came back a second time.
L. C.
Tried several different wines with different cheeses. Superb selection and great staff
S. K.
A perfect place for a date night or an after work tipple. The candle-lit cave/cellar makes this place, and they fill the glasses right up! Lots of varieties of wine to choose from and we loved the selection of mezze snack plates. Will definitely be visiting again in the future.
T. L.
Very nice place. You are ordering your bottle of wine at the bar which you can drink in the cave or on their terrace outside. They have a great selection of wines
They also have a selection of cheese which you can buy separately to eat with the wine.
It's a busy place and they don't take reservations so it is recommended to arrive early.
L.
Used to be a raid shelter during the war! I mean, how cool is that?!! They serve good selections of wine and beer!
M. H.
Cute underground place that serves tapas, charcuterie and wines!
C. T.
Lovely little bar. Really unique, great wine! The waiter gave us free olives which were delicious. We loved the food bar with selection of cheeses, so yummy! The bar is underground so it's dark and cosy, lit by candlelight.
E. M.
Worth a visit! Good atmosphere, great place to chill after work. And the cave inside makes even more interesting
N. A. H. L.
It was extremely busy but there were two hosts at the gate, both of whom were extremely helpful and found my partner and I a place to sit, it was raining and I was offered an umbrella whilst we were waiting to be seated. We were offered an undercover with overhead heating seating complete with extremely fast table service, our drinks order arrived within two minutes of ordering.
First class service 10* from me.
B. H.
Great atmosphere, fantastic selection of wines from across the globe and reasonably priced. Table service offered with sharing platters, plus the location is perfect for a romantic drink for 2 or out with your friends at the weekend.
H. P.
Always love Gordon's! Great selection of wine's and it's nice now they have expanded their seating area outside
T. L.
Fabulous wine bar. Fun vibe and interior. Wine list with a wide selection, also including reasonably priced wines. Cheese platters have big portions. Salads and hot foods are nothing special, but can be refreshment.
V. A.
A very very different and interesting place to visit. Usually when I personally go to a bar I try to find a place where I will be able to admire the surroundings. Here the place to admire is the bar itself! The room that is build like a cave is so unique, I did not experience anything like it untill then or since! Maybe it is not suitable if you don't like small places but even then the bar has regular space to sit and enjoy nice wines and cheese. The service was fast and efficient as well.
A. G.
Great little wine list and loved the food section- Had smoked salmon and salad buffet but there’s heaps of options and cheeses too. Love that you can sit outside or in the cave which adds to the experience. Go off peak times (during work hours) for fast service.
N. L.
Always enjoy visiting here. Great selection of wine and amazing atmosphere. It's cramped, dark and parts of roof leak but it's all part of the charm of what feels like a local institution. Love the history all over the walls. No nonsense fast service at bar but always friendly.
A. P.
Very popular and busy, esp for date nights and when it’s nice outside. Be prepared to ha w to wait for a table and seat and that’s just outside, inside is near impossible so get there early. Brilliant selection of wines, and love the cheese board to go with. Reasonable priced, nice ambiance with the inside being an old cellar, quaint place with character to visit for sure!
O. W.
Very well organised place, thoroughly enjoyed my visit
S. B.
I have been coming here for years and it is absolute fantastic! Amazing venue and awesome in both summer and winter. Really romantic for a date but it does get very busy. Perfect combination of wine and a cheese bar! Would definitely recommend
L. H. C.
Excellent wine bar with good range of wines in a nice ambience - a cool cave with shimmering of candles keep the intimacy and privacy. However its always busy and can be noisy. Massive cues for toilet or order wine is annoying but avoidable if you do not go there in peak times. Friendly and very efficient staff, good variety of cheeses and nibbles.
D. F.
Great wine bar in a typical oldstyle London fashion.
A. B.
No room inside but they have a ton of tables outside so we decided to take that. They are quick to come by and take drink orders.
Walked inside to use toilet and inside looked like a lot of fun because of the old school feel.
Worth checking out, and maybe try an off peak side so you can sit inside.
I. C.
The terrace is lovely, we had a great evening there. Quite and relaxing+amazing wine of course 🥰
Enjoy!
H. V.
Nice outside area but inside is a bit old and dark as well as smelly because of the cheese they serve probably.
R. A.
Like dungeons? Cheese? Wine? Then this is the place for you
R. C.
Extremely old wine bar which can get very busy, but has lots of character, a nice outdoor terrace and excellent drinks, with an especially fine selection of sherry, Madeira and port, and well put together light menu, particularly of tapas and cheese. It looks a bit dingy from the outside so it's easy to overlook it but it's actually one of the best wine bars in the West End.
J. R.
The atmosphere is unique, the wine selection is phenomenal, and the antipasto they have is very good especially if you're not looking for a big meal. However the ordering and table process is very chaotic. The only direction we ever got was the antipasto server getting irritated with us crowding his station and me asking a random staffer if the tables were first come first serve. They should have a sign when you enter that says "Sit where you like, sit with strangers, order wine at the bar, or bread and cheese in the corner"
A. H.
My girlfriend and I love this place. It is an odd bar to walk into, both for location and the entrance, but the wine list is great and the seating in the cave is fantastic for date nights or small groups. Would definitely recommend for happy hour or after a show nearby.
C. G.
Sat near Samuel Peyps and Kiplings old haunts so it's in a pretty historic location. Wine and port a plenty.
C. R.
WISH they did bookings! You will be queuing. We queued for 20 mins and then left because it was one in one out - and an hour minimum wait - by 6pm on a Thursday...! Hit up covent garden if you want more chance of a walk in.
L. C.
Lovely place!! Very romantic as well. Bottles of wine are around £20 so they are a great value. Hard to find a sit but it’s worth it.
Bouncers can become very rude when making you leave though
A. B.
Busy but worth it. Be prepared to sit or stand at an outside table. Wine experience so far is always great, generally I drink red, Rioja currently is excellent (If that's your poison). Cheese and hot/cold snack platters look and smell good but haven't tried as usually stop here for a drink before a meal elsewhere. Toilets up a precarious flight of stairs, not sure if there is an accessible one.

This was our second time here, first for dinner and was quite complicated to find a table inside (in winter). That second time, for lunch on Monday we didn't have any problem to find a free table quickly. A good advice, arrive early, because the problem is to find a table.
We ordered a typical dish and of course cheese and wine, their main choices. Amazing everything, the place, the food, the cheese and the wine. Of course, are much expensive than in Spain, but the atmosphere of the restaurant worth it.
Maybe the sommelier wasn't really friendly, but the rest great!
M. S.
Fabulous experience. Packed on the weekends, but less busy during the work week. Good but limited wine selection. Very friendly staff. Open air tables (recommended) or in the cellar (not for the claustrophobic). Cafeteria-style, so be prepared to carry your own stuff and the staff will haul away the rest. A very good way to both abuse you liver and kill an entire afternoon.
E.
I have been at Gordon’s a few times. During summer is nice to enjoy the barrel terrace outside. In winter I highly recommend to get yourself a bottle of red wine and sit in their cellar room with the candle lit tables. It’s a bit claustrophobic and very narrow but so intimate and such a great feel of history in here. The decor is apparently the same as it has been over the last century. One of the first wine bars in London. The wine selection is pretty good even though it could be slightly better for the prices (It’s london after all). The cheeses are great and I love the rustic feel and simplicity of such place. Recommended as it’s fairly different from any other wine bar in London nowadays. Staff is helpful and quite polite too. I will come back for more wine.
L. Q.
great venue. cave is really cool. cheese selection is delicious. however we were sitting outside, bouncers practically pulling the seat from under us. they were clearing up an hour before closing so we were left standing with wine outdoors with no tables and chairs. very strange and unprofessional
J. S.
This is a fantastic place to unwind with friends after a long day exploring in London - if you can get a seat. It’s understandably popular, so it’s worth arriving early to try and score a seat outside underneath the patio heaters. Once you’re in, send a volunteer inside to choose from the fantastic selection of wines. Be sure to top your evening off with one of the great value cheese boards!
M. D.
Beautiful place with picturesque gardens, sit outside if you can find a table
I. E.
Historical wine/ pub charming place. Lovely cosy atmosphere. Be aware that there are no reservations and you might have to wait for a table but the turnout is quick and definitely worth it. The first two red wine on the list ( Merlot -slighly vinegary and the French one -better choice ) I wod not order again. It's love to try the Malbec but the platters are simply Amazing. Please , please order some ham with your cheese ( delicious ham at its best). Ideal place to visit before theatre or just for a night out around Charring Cross and Embankment. Enjoy
N. P.
The best place in London to take a brief. Great wine and fantastic cheese.
A.
The prices are standard for a London wine bar (cheapest half bottle was £13, but also the cheapest one was still quite good). Wish they had a bigger selection for glasses or half bottles. Don't take Amex either.
Still, great location and a large space if you count the garden. The fact that it is always crowded to the brim speaks for itself. Not my favorite wine bar in London but a great option if meeting someone centrally.
V. G.
Huge line of tables set on both sides of alley as you walk down from chancery lane. Serving a lot of wine and cheese collections. Wine is bit pricey to be honest. Wine not worth the cost in itself but nice to have with a cheese platter and friends. You might have to hunt for chair and table like vulture which sorts of Mars the experience.
Try your luck and if you get a table, stick to it. Place closes strictly at 10:30pm so better go early.
P. D.
Great place with good wine selection and wonderful cheese boards. There's loads of outside seating but you'll need to be on the ball to find seats! The art of hovering comes in handy here. Inside is quite dark so summer months are best spent outside.
R. B.
Love it such good quality and fab wine
L. B.
Great little wine bar that is rich with history. Amazing selection of wines and cheeses. It can get busy inside, but the service is quick and the queue never lasts long. Plenty of seats, table and heaters outside for the winter weather
S. L.
Gorgeous unique bar with candlelight seating downstairs and plenty of space outside. Perfect for a date, very cosy. Good wine and food selection. Wish there was more space but they don’t really have anywhere else to expand into! A must visit
R. C.
Great atmosphere, very intimate wine bar. Nice to go in the summer as well, as they have plenty of space outside. Very good quality / price ratio. The cheeses are great!!
T. O.
We arrived around 7pm on a Saturday and were lucky enough to get a table inside. It’s a great concept and comes together really well, I liked the table sharing culture. Good wine selection, cheeses and tapas.
J. M.
Great atmosphere , amazing selection ... Must visit
R. A.
Great selection of wines at different price points. Very atmospheric indoor seating, and lovely outdoor seating area tucked away from the street. Often quite busy but well worth a visit.
H. G.
Great wine and Cheese- wonderful location
A. L.
Gordon's is a great place to take visitors. It has a unique atmosphere. And it has adapted really well to the current rules. Will be going back as soon as it re-opens.
I. H.
The best place to grab a cheese plate and a bottle of wine in London. It’s a popular spot so be sure to get ready to scope out a seat for you and your friends on the weekend. Recommendation: ask for extra bread when getting the cheese plate. Yummmm! 🙂
G. W.
Amazing experience
J. M.
One of my favourite spots in London, though I may be biased based on my love for wine and cheese.
K. H.
Love this place. A london institution. The cheese is delicious!
M. E.
Living off on its laurels from past, and its location and reputation. Dirty, almost no service, mediocre quality of food selections, you really need to pay up if you have an only slightly discerning wine taste. Good atmosphere, interesting indoors, jovial terrace. Set your expectations low and go for experience.
G. S.
Amazing place! Worth visiting!
S. W.
Great cheese and wine choices
K. B.
This is a fabulous place. Cheese and wine.....need I say more
R. M.
Absolutely amazing experience. We walked in and found a table (Didn't have to book) We had a 3 cheese board between 2 of us and actually the 2 cheese would have been enough. Good prices. The slight negative (For some) is that the only liquid they sell in Wine. (I couldn't even get a glass of water)
C. H.
A quirky place to have a drink, feels like you have gone back in time to days of old and drinking in candle light, a great experience. The only downsides are that food is not homemade, all per packed and arrives in plastic containers in boxes (I know this as the boxes are left outside the toilets upstairs when delivered to go into the kitchen) so the food is expensive for what it then is. Staff are not that friendly, on this visit and seemed more in a get you through a process instead of making you feel welcomed. I have been here many times over the years, I feel it was a little gem of a place that valued it's customers up until a year ago, now it feels more like going to an up market place in a theme park to have over priced food and drink. Such a shame the personal touch seems to have been lost.
S. Y.
One of London's oldest bar. The terrace is a really great place to sit and drink in open.
C. J.
A cool wine bar in London with a relaxed atmosphere. This place is great for a date where you can share a bottle of red and cheese board.
It has a charming outdoor area with tables set out down a long narrow street. A great spot to meet and chat with strangers if you’re the mood as you may find yourself sharing tables especially in the summer months due to the popularity of the place, although this is all part of the charm.
S. G.
Good atmosphere, great heritage & reasonable prices. But the queuing system to get in needs properly organising. Poor staff communication between punters lead to unnecessary delays in getting seated inside or out on a baking hot evening in London. SG.
M. D.
While we didn't get an actual table inside the bar, which looks really cool, we enjoyed their huge outside area (probably the biggest I've come across in central London). Great and decently priced wines and cheese boards!
j. t.
Lived up to its reputation. Excellent wine, as you would expect and cheeseboard pretty decent as well
H. A.
Great little spot by embankment with good wine and a great selection of cheese with sides. Generous portions too. Decor is interesting - old news articles from days gone by generally focused around the royal family (genuinely interesting). Nice seating areas in the caves round the side. My guess is it's always really busy so waiting time to get served is pretty long and you can't order wine and cheese at the same bar (got to queue twice) so if there's only two of you and you're lucky enough to find a seat, then you're either sitting or queuing solo for a while.
N. H.
Great area outside to drink and eat, next to the Victoria embankment gardens. Supper cool, dark and mysterious in the venue.
C. S.
Nostalgic, historic, large wine selection, what more could you want?! Any wine fanatic in London should do their best to get here! The atmosphere is one of a kind and even though it might have that old damp smell, that simply adds to the mystique and joy of this location. Get there early if you want a seat though as they are quite limited, but don't be afraid to sit with others and make some new friends
A. N.
Fabulous cheese board - easily enough for 2. Lovely glasses of port. Brilliant atmosphere. Lots of outdoor eating and drinking tables. Staff really professional. Will definitely visit again next time we are in London.
S. M.
Classic date-night spot. Always bustling with a lively atmosphere. A selection of wines so large it can be overwhelming. Half the fun is keeping a keen eye out for a rare seat to become available. Be prepared to stand, but honestly this is no problem as you'll just be a part of the action.
J. H.
Popular and busy. Unless you get there early it is hard to get a table. Even outside gets packed. Quick and attentive staff, who are more than helpful with suggesting wine. Food is available, but as I said, hard to get a seat. Selection of cheeses and cold snacks which works well with wine. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.
R. W.
One of my favourite bars in London great selection of wine grab a cheese board. Great to sit outside in the summer. Some times tricky to get a table inside always worth a look though maybe see if you can share a table
E. L.
Absolutely delicious! I made a point to visit twice during my week long stay in London. The food is phenomenal and what a great atmosphere!! The cave seating by candlelight is just magical and really shows the age of the place. Love, love, loved it.
M.
On my Local Gems list, this wine bar is really nice. There is a large outdoor area but the inside part is what gives this place a unique athmosphere. Very good selection of wine by the bottle or the glass, and the food counter offers a lovely cheese selection among other things.
J. C.
Fabulous establishment tucked away out of sight near Embankment. The cellars are incredibly atmospheric and unique.
I'm not much of a wine afficionado so I treated myself and the better half to some port, which was delicious.
Value for money could be better but I guess you're paying for the experience.
K. C.
Large wine selection, but helpful staff to narrow it down to your liking. Seating isn’t massively plentiful and careful to try not to sit under a decent water drip. otherwise it’s a very pleasant experience. cheeses and food were more expensive than the bottle of wine I split but was still a great, dark time.
O. P.
Oldest wine bar in London, the place clearly has quite some character and history attached to it. Great wine and cheese/meat platters for a decent price (get full bottles instead of glasses for a great bargain) attract a diverse (but mostly older) crowd right at the heart of the city. While it might prove almost like a miracle to find seating inside, there is some extensive heated seating at the outside alley with its own small bar, although you'll be nicely asked by security staff to leave after 10 to avoid disrupting the neighbours. Great place for a date!
B. O.
Background = Afternoon snack and a glass of wine.
Pros = Facinating venue and history. Lovely outdoor space. Good tasty food, simple and reasonably priced. Good wine selection, not excessively expensive.
Cons = narrow steps (not limited mobility friendly). Some homeless loiter nearby at park entrance. Bar warns about pickpockets.
T. K.
The atmospheric low ceilings and candle light make this a good choice if you want to get closer to someone special. Good luck finding seating though as this place is packed from 5pm til closing. You'll have more luck with the outdoor seating, not great for those grey windy days and during the after hours drinks you'll probably end up standing.
The cheese selection is wonderful and the wine selection isn't overwhelming but of very good quality. It's very expensive though so be prepared.
D. L.
This place is always rammed-- for good reason, and starts getting busy around 4pm daily. They have a fantastic selection of wines, and the environment is really fun and has a historic charm as well (I think it's the oldest wine bar in London?) Have enjoyed every visit I've had here.
M. B.
Tough to get a seat inside, but worth it for the amazing candlelit atmosphere of the underground cavern. The cheese selection is also great, with rotating cheese specials. Chutneys and garnishes such a gherkins come free with a cheese board. Wine was also (obviously) great!
J. R.
Well worth a visit to a unique place. Forget sitting down as this place is extremely popular. Atmospheric seating area inside but certain not for those who are claustrophobic. Wine is superb! Never had a bad glass or bottle of wine here.
F. M.
Trendy n sexy. Great chz boards, wine n service. No reservations. Fun outdoor during the summer n cellar during winter. Good start of the night. Memorable place with strong character. Funn cool for photos as well
K. F.
Always busy - however I’m not surprised because the wine and food are fantastic! Once you get a seat, it’s a very enjoyable evening. The smaller the group, the more chances you’ll have of finding a space to sit.
f.
Very interesting one of the oldest wine bars in london
B. D.
Nice experience here. Glad it's still going strong. Nice outdoor area.
J. M.
Sherry from the barrel, paired with cheese and bread on a wooden platter, in a grubby little cellar crammed with atmosphere. Totally awesome, not to be missed.
B. B.
A storied and lovely little wine bar with excellent cheese and meat platters. If you happen across this gem before it gets rammed you are in for a quaint cozy treat. Indoor and outdoor seating available.
J. O.
A London standard. First rate cheese and charcuterie boards, full of wonderful things, accompanied by delicious bread and relishes. Excellent wine selection. Often crowded, but that adds to the atmosphere. Outdoor area is perfect in summer.
J. C.
Great wine, goid service and different, being underground.
D. F.
Superb food and drink, great atmosphere and apt decor. Feels like a wine bar where they know their stuff, without being pretentious.
However, it can get incredibly busy meaning that finding a place to enjoy the food and drink can be a bit of an ordeal.
Overall though, it’s worth the trip as the food and drink is top notch.
Z. B.
Great place for a date/meetup with a friend, although really cramped inside, they have a long terrace strip outside where there is usually enough space to sit. Wines of the best quality, i believe a bottle costs somewhere from 20£ upwards, which isn't bad at all for central London. A must if you are passing by and want to have a glass of good wine.
S. r.
Me like it! Gordon’s Wine Bar is one of my favorite wine bars in the town. The atmosphere is so romantic and nice. Those little candles make it that way, I think. The vintage ambiance intensifies that romantic feeling, too. And there is a really good wine selection for those who are into wine drinking.
E. O.
It is always a great time here for me and my friends. Such lovely refined, yet welcoming setting is prerequisite for a good time. Add to that fine wine at reasonable prices, good food (we always have platters) and the space outside - it's simply our spot to get together and catch on.
E. G.
Quite possibly the best wine bar in central London. A large outdoor area, and a very rustique wine-cellar type feeling inside, with limited headroom and mostly candle lit. It's normally very busy.
Considering how central it is, and close proximity to Charing Cross station, I'm surprised by how reasonable the prices are. An excellent array of cheese, charcuterie and bread is also available to go with the wine.
J. H.
Great range of wines including some unusual things to try. Good cheese board available to snack on. Two very different seating areas, a cave like cellar and a large outside area just next to the park.
N. W.
Unique, interesting, gorgeous.
L. B.
Wine, lots of wine. Great selection of meats and cheeses as well. There's a cave section inside and also nice seating outside. A fine selection of all kinds of wine and sherry and port. If you don't like wine or cheese boards this is not the place for you.
A. B.
Love the ambiance in the place. The walls are full of amazing history.
C. E.
Absolutely love this place - come here all the time with friends and family. Very unique venue in the cellars serving port/sherry/wine with cheese board/charcuterie platters available (which are delicious).
Good location for nearby restaurants and theatres and although it's always busy you can usually always find somewhere to sit/stand.
The ladies loo could use a bit of refurbishment though!
R. V.
Great wine bar which is a nice change up from the pubs. Large selection of wine with some indoor seating and huge outdoor seating area. The food is quite inexpensive if you are sharing with large portions.
G. C.
Great place for wine and cheese! It can get pretty busy so it's worth reserving a table beforehand. The inside bar is in the cellar, it's dark, cosy and romantic (if it isn't too busy). The staff are friendly and helpful, the wine and port are amazing. If your time in London is limited, I'd recommend making time for Gordon's Wine Bar.
A. L.
Gordon's is a great place to take visitors. It has a unique atmosphere. And it has adapted really well to the current rules. Will be going back as soon as it re-opens.
D. B.
Great wine selection. Brilliant Cheese. But the atmosphere is the best part of being at Gordon's Wine bar. A must experience if your visiting London or simply want a glass of red
J. M.
Gordon's is always rammed because who doesn't love wine and cheese? In the summer tables outside are much sought after, so try to head down in the afternoon to grab a space. Pigeons can be a bit of a nuisance because they too love cheese apparently, but this is made up for by knowledgeable and helpful staff and the uniqueness of the venue. Highly recommend visiting.
P. M.
If you can get a table this place is great...it's worth the wait though, don't give up immediately if it looks busy. Good cheese as well as a great place to enjoy a bottle of wine. They don't do beer or spirits...it's very much a wine bar and all the better for it.
A. M.
Lovely place, very different - great wine. What's not to like?
M. A.
Very cool atmosphere to enjoy drinks by candlelight. It's not open late so it's best enjoyed for after-work drinks. In the summer, the cave-like indoors is very humid so try to snag a table outside on the patio - just be sure to watch your belongings in case of pickpocketers.
M. A.
My favourite wine bar in London not because it's reputedly the oldest but because it always has a good atmosphere as well as a vast selection of reasonably priced wines ( for London prices!). I enjoy trying unusual wines here the last was an excellent Lebanese red. Because of the various cave like corners it's intimate perfect for a romantic drink or with a group..Nice terrace too which increases capacity Get here early to avoid being disappointed.
S. G.
I call this excellent restaurant many times because I enjoy the ambiance that is exist in this restaurant. The crew is awfuly helpful and professional. The service is pretty fast. Not to mention, the food you get is perfect. I frequent often and I was always joyful. The payment is modest. I recommend this place to to all.
S. P.
Really cool bar with an underground, stone-ceilinged charm. Moss actually seems to be growing on the stone roof inside this classic bar. A huge outdoor area also helps to accommodate the numerous people that attend this place. Nice wines. Buffet serves a nice variety of delicious vegan options.
J. L. M.
Old historic setting. Good wine selection. Decent cheese selection. Lovely atmosphere. Very different from other places I've been too
M. M. P.
We love spending our summer evenings enjoying a few glasses of wine at Gordon's. The terrace is a bit overcrowded and the snacks are quite expensive, but the atmosphere is great. Perfect start of a night out with friends. I definitely recommend it!
R. C. (.
Visited Gordon's yesterday afternoon. Bar ambience is great, outdoor seating area is very very nice also. Vast selection of wines and the cheese board with bread was a very nice accompaniment to the wine. Some of the service staff could do with a little customer service training. At the prices you are asked to pay, service with a smile is not too much to ask, is it? On the whole though a thoroughly enjoyable experience and I will definately return.
L. G. B.
This is one of my all time favorite places in London. Such a no brainer to come here in summer. You find yourself jostling with other in-the-knows for the exceptionally good service at the counter. Grab a nice glass of great wines, all hand selected, and find yourself a spot outside on the terrace. If you’re lucky enough to arrive earlier you might even be able to get a table in the medieval vaults just to the side of the main bar. I hope to try the seafood selection I always remember seeing!
G. W.
A London classic, Gordons is great for a casual glass of wine, and some charcuterie/cheese. With extensive outdoor tables, standing room, and some limited indoor seating, Gordons is cozy, boozy, and loaded with local character.
S. B.
Amazing wine selection and fun atmosphere, plus solid cheese plates. The underground/cave seats are fun and funky, quasi dark and dank cellar feel - very cool!
G. H.
This cosy bar has a wonderful atmosphere both inside and out. The staff are all very knowledgeable and ready to help those who know little about wine to enjoy a good bottle. The interior is a bit dark and imposing, but the outdoor area is great to relax with friends on the weekend (so long as it's good weather!) with Embankment Gardens right beside it.
D. H.
Fantastic underground candle lit (or seats outside under heated covers) wine bar with food. Very atmospheric, worth a trip. Well located for Waterloo / Charing Cross, or the Strand. Cheese plate good value with lots of choice - ask for extra bread. Staff casual and friendly. Well run.
G. P.
Wine bar with a beautiful old cellar (where you can never get a table) and large outdoor area. (which they close half of around 10pm). The wine is fair, lots of cheese and delicious BBQ things. It's busy but that's a reflection of how good it is.
A. M.
London rustic oldest wine bar with great wine, sherry and port selection from around the world. Also fabulous cheese, meat plate, fresh baguettes and other bites such as English classic scotch egg.
T. H.
Possibly my favourite place to get wine in any of the countries I've been to. The atmosphere is super unique and the wine selection is always pretty spectacular. Warm or cold weather, there's just something about having wine here in the evening.
G. E.
Very romantic candlelight under the arches. First come first served- gets busy so get there early. Not pricey for West end- wide selection of wines at usual pub prices. Wide selection of cheeses but try first- some are quite pungent!
J. T.
Lovely sharing platter before theatre. Fab 😁
M. E.
Great place not only for wine lovers, cheese lovers are also welcome! Try a table with 3 different cheeses, the experienced staff will advise you good on which ones you should try out. Reasonable prices too, especially if you are sharing with a small group and you want to try different wine and cheeses. This cave-type bar is very cosy (dark enviornment and candles). There were lots of couples when I went, but it's also good for small groups of friends. Don´t try to get there with a large group unless you have a reservation (only one table in a special area). Bad part is that it´s always pretty full and it's difficult to grab a seat, so make it there early. Still if you are patient, you will end up getting a table. Definitely worth the visit!
J. A.
A great place, and brilliant to take visitors to. Unfortunately, it's always crowded and busy (i.e there is rarely somewhere to sit). Outside is a bit better but cold during winter obviously! There's a great selection of wines. Many are pricey but it is central London...
A. E.
One of my favourite spots in London (for the right occasion). Excellent selection of great wines at reasonable prices. Visiting for after work drinks or a weekend evening then expect it to be busy but the buzz is half the draw.
I. K.
Super cozy wine bar. Food looks excellent, but sadly only had time for a wine. You can pick your own cheeses and cold cuts to make a platter to go with your wine. Service staff were friendly and helpful.
J. R.
I went to this place with my friends to celebrate one of my friend's birthday. This place serves the best beer and tasty food. We enjoyed a lot as this place has its own unique vibe. Everybody at this place was so happy and it was all a joyous evening. Definitely would recommend.
S. D.
This is a great place to go on a Summer evening. They have a large selection of wines and outside of the bar there is a pedestrian's areas with a lot of tables and umbrellas to sit outside as a group. Despite the enormous size of this area, it usually gets very crowded though, so you might have trouble finding enough seats. With all those people streaming into the bar to collect there drinks, it usually gets a bit hectic and pushy in the queue. Best to split between people reserving seats and people getting the drinks.
I am not sure how this could possibly work when it's too cold outside, but on a warm summer evening it is a good place to meet old friends over a drink.
Ö. Ç.
11 years on and is still one of my favourite places in London. It's not as touristy as its immediate environment would suggest; in fact, you will see a lot of locals enjoying good wine and nice atmosphere.
There's a charitable massage taking place on Tuesdays and Thursdays, too!
B. H.
Always a pleasure to visit Gordon's. Great selection of both wine and cheese. The new seating only layout makes a lot of sense and makes for a better evening. Will visit again
T. G.
Lively wine bar, with vaulted rooms making it very atmospheric. Hard to get a table. They also chuck you off the tables outside way too early to close down sections a long time before closing.
V. F.
Good food and very nice place. It is always very busy by the way, most of the time you can't find a table or a seat. Secondly the problem is the wine selection and prices. They charge quite a lot on not so good wine. 22£ for a poor merlot for example.
A. M.
London institution :-) Many reasons to come here. The wines, the cheese platters, the dark interior and last but not least, the quirky smell (which might be a bit overwhelming for some people, I suppose). I am not a wine enthusiast, so I can't know if their collection is great, but I had a lovely time there, in the outdoor area. I assume that there are fancier and more specialized wine bars around the city, but this place is definitely worth visiting. Next to impossible to find a seat inside, hard but not very probable to find a place outside. The advertised closing time does not correspond to reality, we where kicked out of the outdoor tables at 22.00 on a Saturday night, which was very disappointing.
J. P.
A very friendly, very overcrowded wine bar with a very large selection of wines. One of the few places in central London where you can readily strike up conversations with locals, since you're usually obliged to share a table with them. Sitting down is generally not an option for those who keep regular office hours, and it's rarely anything other than crowded. Many wines are available by the glass, although that's rather missing the point. The food is also quite nice, and is also missing the point. The best approach to Gordon's is to suddenly remember it exists as you are passing through the area, immediately go there and order a bottle of something, and then leave 90 minutes later with a much improved opinion of life.
For tourists, the gentleman's conveniences are recommended for their interesting selection of original newspaper articles about the coronation.
S. M.
Love the atmosphere here, dark and mysterious. And during these times easy to get into.
C. G.
Gordon is one of the oldest wine bars in London, and from the trademark decor you can tell it. They offer good food, and it’s easy to come here and spend an hour on food and wine. The wine list is complete; not so large but enough to get an extremely variety of wines. The atmosphere here is amazing - the back room was only light up by a candle, it's totally the perfect place for a date. And you will see the history behind it around every corner. I really loved this place and I want to go back again.
E. B.
Always busy in evenings, and rightly so. Great wine selection, cheese and nibbles. Such a lovely spot outside or ambient inside if you can get a seat
H. W. (.
The legendary Gordon's - the place everyone in London has heard of even if they've never been. I was one of those people for some years before finally checking it out for myself recently. I was not disappointed. I stopped by with a friend for an after work drink. It was busy but we managed to secure a small table inside (it was a little too cold for the terrace although I'm not sure if they have heaters). They have an extensive wine selection and various food options along the tapas line. We went for a special deal of two types of cheese, bread and pickles for I think maybe £15? The cheese selection was huge but the staff were really helpful even letting me taste some of them. Overall a great place but be prepared for it to get busy - not to be recommended if you're claustrophobic!

You'll find pretty much everyone who works in the area here after work. Crowded, but good atmosphere. Lovely place to get a glass/bottle of wine and a cheese platter after a long day or before a show at the Southbank.

A gem in the heart of embankment. I would go more often but it is always busy. I recommend the white wines as the are great and they always have a wine of the week that is good to check.it out. The place.is amazing, looks like an old cellar and had an outdoor area for summer evenings.

Absolutely love this place! It's a hidden gem. In a little underground basement like place near embankment, its the perfect place for a drink with some friends or a romantic date. Pick up some tapas dishes and some cheeses from their menu and you've got a nice meal.

Rustic business person's wine bar with good choice wines and even better choice of ham and cheese.
Always crowded and lively, Gordon's Wine Bar is the go to place for office workers nearby for a nice bottle(s) of wine and a big platter of cold cuts for sharing. Especially in nice sunny weather.
Has a good outdoor area.

I've always loved coming here, but hadn't been in over 5 years. Place hasn't changed. Still serving the best Tawny Port I've tasted and the cheese platter rivals that of many fine dining restaurants. Love Gordon's!

Been going here for years and every time I go back it seems to be busier, they have progressively added more outside seating, but to find a table can still be a mission when the weathers good. Service at the bar is quick and extremely friendly, great atmosphere. Definitely deserves the 5 stars

This place is great but you better get there early to get a seat inside. Great wine selection and also a nice selection of fresh meats and cheeses. This place looks like it was built into a cave! The staff was very friendly and the prices were pretty good considering the area that it’s in. I would definitely recommend Gordon’s for the selection and atmosphere.

Hidden gem in embankment. Small cave-like bar with lovely wine and cheese and meat platters. Good for wine lovers. Ideal place to take friends visiting London

Fabulous experience, amazing cheese and wine, lucky to have got a space in the cellar, very atmospheric 🍷

Came here in summer and enjoyed outdoor seating. Great range of wine and nibbles such as a cheese tray. It would have beem nice if they served beer for the non-wine drinkers.

Great little wine bar near embankment Station, good wine selection as well as a few cheese plate options. If you can find a table in the cave it's amazing to have a drink there by the candlelight.

Incredibly popular atmospheric wine bar. Always busy post work and full of people on first dates. Great wine and cheese selection. Would recommend popping around 10 to get a table

Wine + cheese + funky cave-like interior - what is not to like?
Great selection of wine to pair with an array of cheeses, meats, breads, salads and chutneys.
Inside space is a candle-lit cellar - very romantic - and there is also space to sit outside and enjoy the nice weather when occasionally it graces us.
