Reviews of Hackney Church Brew Co.

It is situated in a lovely street full of nice places. Love the fairy lights. Friendly n cool staff trying their best to give u best service. They have plenty choice of beers in cask n keg as well as spirits. A lot of people enjoying their delicious food which I can smell. Btw I been there for drink so hope next time try their food too. Beautiful place n love the atmosphere with great vibes. plenty of space inside, outside as well as back beer garden.

Good spot overall. They brew some pretty solid beers, although the range doesn't change with enough frequency to coax me in here that often. They round out their taplist with guest beers, sometimes fairly interesting stuff. Nice food offering here. Interestingly, this place is hugely popular with the non-beery crowd, so if you come in during the evening (e.g. Thu-Sat) it tends to be quite busy with evening scene people. Decent value, and beers are available in 1/3 pours. The place itself is a nicely renovated railway arch. I wouldn't call this place a destination but if you're going to the Experiment, which is a few doors down, you may as well pop your head in here to see if they have anything interesting on tap.
P. M.
Great selection of beer, and the food is well priced and amazing. You can sit in the back bar and chat to the friendly chefs as they work; very impressive! will come again for the burger.

It’s definitely one of the best Sunday roast I’ve eaten in London! Everything tastes so delicious, the portion is big! Super fresh ingredients (chicken from @farmertomjones), great selection of beer and 58gin!
The way they use for cooking is called lagom, it gives a nice smokey taste on the meat 😋 the gravy is delicious, it’s not from the can or power, it’s homemade therefore they will charge you if you ask for an extra portion.
There is lot of seats indoor and they also have an outdoor space.
Finally very friendly and helpful staff!

Excellent choice of beers. Loads of space, well decorated, their stout was my favourite. But the food was disappointing. The chicken and pork kebabs were impossible to differentiate, they were quite flavourless and the pita bread was heavy. The chickpea salad was dry, really only the chips were good. Toilets are nice, taps are difficult to use though. Overall - drinks amazing. Food - go elsewhere.
S. D.
Lovely interior and a great selection of drinks. Unfortunately the food is overpriced with comically small portions. A shame, as it was excellent before they changed kitchen (moving from hosting Lagom to doing it themselves).
The pictured fish and chips cost £15...

Great place for a beer and roast. Awesome beers on tap. Friendly staff. One of the best pork roasts I've had in London. Roast chicken was amazing too. One downside was cold plates. Food went cold quickly.

So happy to have finally taken the time to visit. Easily my joint 1st place for a great beer in Hackney.
Visited this both on a lively Saturday night and more Subdued Sunday afternoon.
Great environment with lovely staff and a very attractive selection of beverages. Didn’t get to tasted the food (not served Sunday) but what I saw on Saturday did give me food envy.
D. L.
Amazing beer-- very fresh with a little twist, amazing food (Mediterranean Platter is stunningly yummy) and amazing vibe! The space is beautifully industrial with loads of capacity. Definitely worth a visit again and again!
C. S.
Brilliant place to spend a summer’s evening. Great choice of beers, friendly staff and a very nice venue with a surprisingly large outdoor area. Well worth a visit if you’re in the area. One recommendation - could do with more veggie options on the menu.
N. M.
Love the back patio - it reminds me of Cape Town :-)
They make some good beers, but I wish they had a wider selection of their own stuff on tap, and not in cans.
F.
Absolutely exemplary, Ihad a blackberry sour and a black forest porter at around 5 pounds each; both good examples of the style.
The standout Sunday roast by Lagom, while I could attempt to pick at minor faults, the overall experience was truly trancendant. A contemporary Sunday roast (but so much more).
I had the pork belly at something like 19 pounds - very worth it. This is modern simple cooking at its best.

The beers were fantastically fresh and really tasty, there was a great selection with lots of variety including alcohol free ones for those so inclined. There was a good range of sizes to choose from as well (pint, two thirds, half pint, one third). All of the staff were lovely, really friendly and came round frequently to collect glasses, take orders and check we were having a good night. The covered tent area was ideal and provided shelter from the cold plus the heaters made a massive difference. The brewery was really quick to respond to emails and had no trouble extending our booking and answering queries. Loos were well maintained and clean. Hygeine and safety measures were strictly adhered to. All in all a fantastic place to enjoy a drink, will definitely be back again!
b.
Really friendly staff, accomodating and very helpful in finding a table for walk in. Had a roast and it was sub-par (veggie - no gravy to speak of). Friend had chips - £4.50 for the tiniest portion of chips I've ever seen in my life. Overall as a pub great - 5 stars. As a restaurant would not do again - 0 stars. Menu needs some major overhauling.
D. D.
Great place, fantastic beer, and the food looks good too. The head chef K is an awesome guy, and gave Great hospitality too.
A. L.
Lovely space with loads of good brew on tap. Food is great as well with a variety of sharing dishes. Will definitely come again.
C. B.
The ales taste amazing and there is such a huge variety to choose from. If your're not sure you can try a few before you commit - but whatever one you choose it's going to taste great! Additionally, on the days they serve food it's worth grabbing from munch - so full of flavour.
P. D.
Great space, tasty beers and super friendly team. Fodd smelled wonderful too
M. Z.
Great Sunday roast and delicious craft beer. I really recommend the pork belly! And the Yorkshire pudding is one of the best I’ve ever had.
X. K.
They have really good beers 🍻
A good place with a lot of variety.
I need the same place in France 🇫🇷
p.
Typical London under the arches bar!
M. T.
Nice place - they've obviously spent a lot of money on the decor and have a good outdoor space at the back. Seems to be an homage to IPA styles though - not particularly interesting and the two we had were just ok
A. J.
Great little boozer with a decent selection of beers and some great food. Also features a lovely courtyard. Not much to dislike.
T. B. K.
The place is nice, I tried two of their own brew and I’m not a big fan, but they have a decent selection. There is a nice beer garden too
M. T.
Great place and atmosphere. Loved the food, beer was great definitely would return
C. W.
I don’t usually write reviews but I was absolutely blow away by the food, service and drinks that I had last night! If anyone ever tells you that this place is just ‘okay’ you have my permission to slap them in the face. The burgers where so tender and juicy I thought my tastebuds where drunk, my friend and I also shared the courgette and the chicken with a side of probably the crispest potato’s I’ve ever had. Then on top of all of that the servers where so incredibly friendly and helpful that I was feeling overwhelmed by emotion by then end.
I CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE MORE!!!
Also a big thanks to Abbie who was one of our servers and the team in general my only regret was not ordering more food!
H. T.
Had such a lovely time last weekend with amazing beer and great company. This was all made even better by the fantastic staff at the brewery - especially Georgina, who made me feel very at ease being in the brewery and she made the whole experience feel really safe and abided by the covid-19 regulations, which was really appreciated. Brier and Liv were also super friendly and made the whole experience even more enjoyable, despite these current circumstances. Can't wait to return!
A. S.
Firstly, this place smells pretty incredible when you walk in. Haven’t actually eaten here (yet) but whatever Lagom is cooking in the smoker really does smell good.
Secondly, the building is really unique with church style wooden beams in the roof and a view right into the brewery at the side of the bar. There’s also a little bit of outdoor space at the back.
The bar has a varied rotating selection of craft beers on tap (pretty sure everyone will find something they like here). One of the best beer bars in Hackney.
A. M.
I liked this place. Good beers. The beer garden is actually quite cool. I didn't have food but what I saw seemed tasty. Good place for big groups. We were like twenty people and for perfectly without a booking. The only thing is that the place inside seems a bit dark on my opinion but I guess is something to expect from a place under a bridge
S. P.
Best Sunday Roasts I've ever had in London! (A wee bit pricier than other places, but it's worth it if you want a good quality food) Great selection of craft beer as well. Love sitting in their garden.
R. G.
Love this spot! Super chill, tasty & interesting beer selection. Staff really personable. Slow during the first half of the week, easy to get a seat and chat. Kitchen open from Thursday until Sunday. When it gets rowdier, the acoustics mean it can be hard to carry conversations if seated indoors.
E. B.
Smokehouse was amazing, beef, chicken and pork is so tender. The desserts were great too, indulgent delicious chocolate brownies and light pecan pie. Julio the chef is doing a great job!
Great selection of beers, darker stuff as well as the trendy craft stuff. Covered seated area outside for smokers and six nation inside for rugby lovers. Unisex toilets next to the brewery so you can ogle the Brew as you pass. Had a lovely Sunday afternoon eating great food and drinking great beer!
R.
Such a great place.
Under the Arches at hackney central.
Lots of great beers to chose from. Amazing food - we had the whole smoked chicken for Sunday lunch!!!! So tasty. So far have tried the lager and the IPA....more to try.
The location is in the centre of hackney and they have the brewery on site.
Definitely reccommend. Great atmosphere and lovely staff.
R. L.
Great beer, at reasonable prices. Fish and chips was good, but the burger was a little small.
J. J.
Just wow! Great beer, food, music, and customer service.
E. H.
One of my favourite drinking holes in London! The beer is incredible, so unique and there's a great selection. The taproom itself has a great atmosphere, and would recommend the really interesting brewery tour. Will be back again and again...
P. B.
Absolutely loved the venue, really nicely done, especially loved the huge tables. Good choice of beers available, the Dipa I tried was made in the brewery on site and was really good. Food looked good although didn't get to try anything this time. Can't wait to return, Hackney is really turning in to a beer destination now.
Z. V.
Beers good but we’ve been waiting over an hour and a half for food and it still hasn’t arrived... currently 4pm see photo...
E. c.
Really well set up brewery hidden in the arches in Hackney, serving great beer brewed on site and food from thier guest kitchens! Cool vibe, gets quite busy at the weekends so if you're a big group it's definitely worth booking.
S. W.
Great venue and good selection of beers on tap
J. F.
Really cool vibe, and awesome place for hanging out with friends. Seeing all the brewery apparatus in the adjacent arch is pretty impressive. The imperial stout is like a potent dark elixir of the Gods. It's delicious, but be warned, its 10.7% alcohol content means it has more knockout power than Anthony Joshua. The pale ale is also gorgeous and sustainable for lasting the evening. Definitely a must go place!
H. B.
Love. Love. LOVE!!! Everything about this place is perfect. From the delicious fall-off-the-bone ribs to the excitingly perfected beers. It's a gem that you don't want to expose but have to so you're sure it stays alive. Try the fermented chilli 🥰🙏
S. A.
Cool place & people and great choice of beers. Very spacious, industrial atmosphere which suits the location. But acoustics are a bit tricky here (especially on busy nights including live music).
R. H.
We visited recently and were very impressed. Tried the IPA and the stout and both were excellent, as well as being reasonably priced. The layout is great and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. We will be back again soon!
H. P.
Quite disappointed with the Lamb Shank to be honest - pretty bland and generally table didn’t love the food. Great place for a drink though
M. V.
Oh I loved this place! I popped in with a couple of friends on a Saturday night to kick start our weekend and we weren't disappointed, brilliant selection of beers and welcoming staff. Nice playlist too got us moving before we hit the club
J. M.
This brewery is amazing! The beer is ace and the venue is very cozy and inviting. Can’t write a review without mentioning the beer garden, it is a dream! Can’t wait to spend many a fun night here. Thanks to the crew at St. John at Hackney brewery for the hospitality so far.
A. V.
Great beers. I also ate once one of the best burgers I ever had in London in here. Basque meat. Not in the menu anymore. Why? Why? Why?
D. B.
Nice place, even nicer staff and a great beer selection!
M. K.
An extension to the ever ambitious & forward thinking St. John at Hackney Church. Serves surprisingly great Asian food, noodles and popcorn chicken in particular. The IPAs brewed on their grounds are tasty! Staff are friendly and knowledgeable.
A. P.
I've been here a few times and have always had a blast. They have great beers and very friendly staff
D. E.
Best bar in the area. 10/10 would come back in a heartbeat. Staff are super friendly and great vibe. Such nice beer too!!
J. J.
Amazing tasting food for Christmas Dinner. Came home raving about the succulent smoky chicken. The unlimited roast potatoes were delightful too
R. T.
Great brewery with lovely bar! Very atmospheric, great selection on craft beers (own and guest) and great selection of tasty food (both veggie and meaty).
T. R.
Nice starter and dessert but very disappointed with the main, which was a merely a salad with few strips of beef - was expecting a steak.
a. s.
Discovered on an “Airbnb experience” brewery tour and have come back twice since. Great craft beer selection, great food, and staff! 👌🏼Highly recommend!
E. s.
Great interior decor and nice pint of helles. It was quite quiet on a Sunday afternoon but would be great in the summer when there are more people around creating more of an atmosphere or maybe some live music or something
N. H.
Clearly a lot of money has been spent on the place. Situated within the arches of the train tracks above, wooden beams support the ceiling. The bar sits at the end as you enter. Through to the right the brewery is standing, tall aluminium silos.
T. O.
Warm brewery on a cold day, great IPA. Sunday Roast smelled delicious and looked to be too! Friends & Family friendly taproom.
C. D.
Under the arches tap room/micro brewery associated with the nearby church. Beers drinkable, but with room for improvement. Very helpful staff, nice vibe, lots of potential.
M. C.
Great space! Loads of room inside and great garden space at the back
Beers are good and decently priced. Cant wait to try the food next time!
C. W.
Really great atmosphere and friendly staff,
Food comes quickly too. Good place to try a few beers
R. N.
I didnt eat the food but it looked delicious have a great back garden if inside gets full and a great range of beer, ale and ipa nice little place to find
W. L.
Perfect combination of ambience and beer brewed on the premises.
I. W.
Beer choice pretty decent. Third party choices could have had a bit more variety. Wonderfully cool with their sweet, sweet air conditioning.
L. P.
Lovely space nice staff and amazing beer the sour cherry beer was to die for I can't wait to get to know them more bring on the future/1/8/20update the staff here have the patience of a saint with covid 19 on going they are amazing
J. F.
Incredible venue. Beautiful arches and interior. Great selection of beers and great to be in the place they make it. Must visit.
A. S.
Excellent, thoughtful service and great beer and food. The Korean spicy swede and scotch egg are both worth trying.
T. P.
Good beer, food and service
T. F.
Easily one of, if not the best micro brewery in the city and now one of the best Roast dinners since @eatlagom landed.
N. H.
If you can get the food made by Langom it is well worth it, the food is phenomenal, at a decent price, especially at lunchtime, they have a good selection of craft beers.
A. B.
Fantastic beer, and great food selection.
S. B.
Nice place, who doesn't like drinking beer where it's made. Plus, there's Aesop's handwash in the loos. I'd drink in a water treatment plant if it had Aesop's handwash.
J. H.
Love this place. Visited there at 1P.M., very lazy, peaceful mood.
M. W.

Gorgeous beers and incredible fire-cooked food from Lagom. Thoroughly, thoroughly recommend this place ❤️

Nice place, and welll kept, but needs some seasonal beers. It's the middle of winter, get some darker beers on!
R. S.
