It's a nice pub next to Wimbledon Common Park.
Friendly staff, good food.
Friends and family welcome 🙂
Free parking around.

Booked a table here on a Sunday for a roast at 5.30pm but went there a lot earlier, the staff member Cello was very friendly and still found us an outside table, which was a dream. The service and food was great quality. Would recommend for food or just drinks. Very cosy and old English style. The thing that made my Experience great was Mr Cello, he was so kind, friendly and reassuring and went out his way to give us a great service, he should be used as an example for what a amazing customer service should be and is like. Thanks guys and see you when next in the area.

What a great pub. The menu is extensive, the seating is great, especially outside in the nice weather. Not so many tables so you will have to be lucky on that, but we'll worth it.
S. M.
This is a great pub with a real country pub feel to it that you would only expect somewhere outside of London. The home made pies are amazing and keep me returning time and time again.
B.
Beautiful pub and good food.
Lost a star due to being quite pricey for basic sausage and mash.
This place seems like a very popular spot so booking in advance would be best to avoid disappointment.

Went for dinner as a group of 8. Staff really helpful. No fuss and food very good. Photo of a sharing starter. Great atmosphere.

A fantastic pub that I've been going to since I was little with my parents. Now I go when I'm in Wimbledon. Had a fantastic game pie and a few beers. Everything was perfect. Only slight bit of constructive feedback is the gravy that comes in the jug with the pie could be better. Easy to make in big batches and freeze. A truly brilliant pub
A. B.
My absolute favourite pub in London. Went for birthday dinner and drinks and everything was perfect (it even stopped raining!). Wonderful staff, great service and fantastic menu. Even had a good choice of Vegan options for me! If you've not been here yet then you absolutely must.
n. c.
Absolutely great! I had the best time. It's a cosy classic English pub with good food and good people. Having a roast dinner by the fireplace in a rainy day with great wine and beer with your family couldn't make you happier. Thanks
C. S.
Lovely pub .Nice staff. Good beers. Probably need to reserve a table for food as not that big. No smoking outside seating area, which was a bit disappointing. Would definitely come back though
M. W.
We had a meal with friends yesterday afternoon/evening. The food and service was first class, friendly and professional.
Andrew and his team always make a real effort to make everyone welcome and we would highly recommend a visit.

Went for Monday lunch with a friend and the service was friendly. Lots of seating and comfortable. Food was good too and quick to come out. Coming from Manchester the prices were a bit painful but standard for London!
c.
Best pub in the area. We have been coming here for many years and if anything it has got better over time. Great country-pub feel, with an open fire place, loads of seating, good food and beer. Every visit is a pleasure.
S. L.
The place is lovely, the food is good with the portion sizes that are really generous. But it's still a relatively simple pub classics not a French cuisine like in some places nearby and even if there are some fancy ingredients the food is pretty straight forward. The staff is great and the location is really interesting. All in all a really good "premium" pub experience. Consider booking a table if you're planning a meal or if the weather won't allow for having a pint outside.
N. S.
Wonderful pub in Wimbledon with the most delicious pies I’ve ever tasted. Had dinner here with some mates and absolutely loved the history, service, food and pints. One of my all time favorite pubs!
S. S.
Fantastic pint of mixed and the primotivo was primo bello. Spectacular outdoor area with wonderful heaters. Undoubtedly the best pubs this side of the river Thames
A. F.
We contacted them for a friend's wedding lunch in a really short notice, but they were super accommodating, gave us a private room and were all so lovely. Food and service was great too!
V. B.
First time here for decades but will definitely be back. Terrific ambience and it was busy and buzzing on a pleasant Friday afternoon. Delightful staff. I had the plant burger which was really nice. I have low expectations of vegetable burgers generally but can't stop myself trying them, and this was really good and was the best I've had and would definitely have again. Very generous portion of fries! My friend had Cumberland sausages which she thoroughly enjoyed, and my partner had cod and triple cooked chips. He enjoyed it but had several large bones for which he deducted a star along with asking 3 times for glass of water, and the price of essentially a large roll. We shared a very generous potted crab which was brilliant. Portions substantial, prices average for location, staff were lovely. highly recommend.
B.
Authentic hearty pub with a modern twist! Food took some time to arrive but it was delicious and good fries too! Nice for a lazy afternoon with family and friends. 😀
S. T.
Always fantastic food, cosy ambiance and welcoming personnel, - top notch pub!
k. p.
Absolutely amazing atmosphere, lovely smiley owner - Andrew- and excellent food! Special congrats to the chef for the freshly made chicken pie. We loved the outdoor space and especially the vine that brought memories from home.
S. G.
Had a great lunch here (the sausage sharing platter is divine!) Last weekend. We had our dog with us and were so welcomed, even with a few dog biscuits. The staff were above and beyond, super helpful and friendly.
I. W.
Lovely atmosphere and attentive staff. However my friend had trouble with her steak. It was blue rather than medium rare. The staff rightly replaced it but unfortunately the second steak had a lit of gristle. A shame and could be a one-off.
r. c.
Fantastic food top notch. I went this Sunday and tried the roast pork belly and collar a more than substantial portion great crackling. They do their own chunky apple sauce. A good variety of fresh vegetables crisp roast potatoes what more could you want a homemade Yorkshire pudding. There was also a baked camembert with enough sourdough toast for once and lightly pickled vegetables to cut the richness. Well done!
J.
Cracking pub just off the common with a nice courtyard & tables at the front for outdoor seating. Sunday roast (beef) was delicious. Our only suggestion for improvement: get some sauce on the sticky toffee pudding!
H. M.
Highly recommended Sunday roast. Skin on belly pork could have been crisper but very tasty nevertheless. Vegetarian option was very good too according to 2 of our party.
R. S.
Loved it! Absolute classic! Best of England! Great snack and atmosphere for a pint and excellent cuisine for a proper dinner. Also very well priced. The truffle chips - my favourite.
A. M.
Had an absolutely lovely Saturday evening at the hand in hand. Couldn’t fault a thing, the food was incredible, brilliant friendly service and great choice of wine. Lovely pub can’t wait to return!
S. S.
Great location & walking distance from Cannizaro park and with a small public garden outside. Food was average but we'll priced. Lively and seemingly well liked local establishment. We had a pie and soup - both of which were of the quality I'd expect but nothing special.
D. T.
One of the best Sunday roast I ever tried! Nice local ales and cosy environment in autumn and winter. There is an outside but it becomes busy very quickly! There is also a family area if you have children.
P. D.
The food is exquisite. Loads of vegan options including in desserts. The vegan pie was incredible. Look at it! It did take our food over an hour to arrive but in fairness we were warned. It gets really really busy. You are better off booking.
A. W. S.
Very impressed by the renovation work to this much loved Wimbledon pub! The space has been beautifully opened up providing a wonderful array of different drinking and dining rooms, which was cheerfully packed with patrons this Friday evening. Staff were welcoming, friendly and attentive throughout our dinner. Still to try the full dinner menu, but the pies we had were delicious - wonderful pastry, generously sized and not constricted to being served in ramekin dish. I was also happy to see the dog friendly nature of the pub still in full effect with plenty of pooches running about. Really looking forward to the next visit already.
P. D.
A wonderful place whatever the weather, sitting out on the grass during the summer with a cold pint or eating a deliciously cooked meal inside the warm and cosy bar on a wet spring evening. I couldn’t recommend this pub any higher, partly due to their range fantastic ales.
Α. Κ.
Amazing place pet friendly I love it 🥰 and the other day I come again
R.
Cheerful and good vibes in a bit countryside London.
They have a good reputation for Sunday roast. I enjoyed it a lots.
G.
A fantastic atmosphere with a great old style decor. The staff are extremely friendly and are always more than happy to help. There is a good range of all alcoholic beverages and soft drinks as well. It is a kid friendly pub, although they aren't allowed in the main bar area. It is also dog friendly and they are allowed in and really adds to the atmosphere. The food is pub classics with daily specials, and is great quality for a reasonable price (for the area). Although I would say it is often hard to find a table.
R. W.
Great lunch with excellent beer, all in the best boozer in SW19 .
More important is the quality and friendliness of the staff.
B. J.
Great atmosphere, the Plant based burger was tasty and the service was excellent. A very friendly welcome :)
K. P.
Great atmosphere, friendly and welcoming staff, delicious pies! Highly recommend the ox cheek and ale 👍 will definitely be going back again again!
X. S. (.
Sunday roast in this place is a must that people should have in their to do list in UK. The meat is tender, veg is well cooked, the mash is smooth. Everything just go well with each other.
The only other advice I would give you is to wear your stretchy pan. My trousers are tightened. So I could not finish the whole dish. I felt sorry for myself and chef.
v. l.
Had a lovely evening out with my partner here. Lovely atmosphere and had an amazing meal. Highly recommend and will visit again
Y. P.
That dog made a right pig's ear of it's snack selection, or possibly a left pig's ear. Moving on, lovely beer and lovely staff, one of whom managed the yard of ale in one go with impressive minimal spillage
R. M.
So being from up north of London nearly fell over when I saw the price of the roast dinner which was £18 beautiful pub and voted best pub in Britain for doggies which is awesome overall a nice experience but when your used to as much as you can eat carvery for £8 it's hard to stomach 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
B. L.
Excellent pub, great atmosphere (dog friendly - not ours!) and the food is delicious. The roast was lovely and very generous portions.
L. H.
Gorgeous food there this evening (white bean, kale and garlic dip, veggie chilli) lovely atmosphere abs staff
L. G. R.
I did truly love this place. It is not just cozy and beautiful inside, but the veggie roast that I ordered.... I loved it. My friend ordered a burger, but chips were not up to standards. Something to improve.
S. A.
Great atmosphere, tentative staff and really good food. We had the pie and it was phenomenal! Good selection of beers and wines too. Allso pet friendly which is always a plus..
N. B.
Staff went way above and beyond expectations to accommodate us in finding a table. Definitely will be back.
K. O.
Great place, good wine...but they don't accept cash. So after I ordered my drink, the water said "we only take card payment". It was No sign at the bar.
I had to leave I was a bit upset.
S. H.
Absolutely brilliant pub. It's always been a great spot but the recent revamp makes it so much more appealing - making the most of the fabulous interior.
First visit in years and despite a minor booking error, we had a fantastic lunch. The charming manager couldn't have been more apologetic and he even delivered a free dessert with candles for my son's birthday.
The lunch itself was delicious and the beer selection is pretty good. I'd say this is genuinely the best dining pub in Wimbledon right now.
R. F.
Worked at hand in hand pub a year ago and must say I had a fantastic time. I think the brand can be very proud of their staff and their management. I was particularly impressed with Chris Clatworthy who went above and beyond in assisting me even while I was in another country at the time as well as Andrew who creates a culture in which all employees can grow and flourish and reach their full potential. I have no doubt the company will soon realise many leaders “happen” to be coming through his tutorship. Thoroughly enjoyed my time there at this quality Youngs pub!
r. w.
Food was lovely and the staff were top notch
R. N.
Took my parents for Sunday lunch. Food was delicious with very generous portions.
L. B.
Lovely pub, great atmosphere, fab staff, food excellent. Perfect place to while away the afternoon
T. K.
Lovely cosy pub, ideal after a walk on Wimbledon common.
S. S.
We had dinner celebrating a 60th birthday the food and menu is excellent
R. G.
Very pleasant place for lunch right by the common. Nice outside space. Great fish & chips and Young's ales
J. K.
Lovely old, cosy, country styled pub serving tasty food in relaxed setting. We highly recommend the pies they make! The area has a country village feel a stones throw from the common.
The pub staff practiced the covid safe precautions and the venue felt safe. Would recommend
A. W.
Nice foody pub on the edge of Wimbledon Common. Friendly Staff.
T. M.
Probably the best pub in Wimbledon Village. Very nice for a Young’s pub. The staff are always professional and accommodating. A particularly great spot to sit out on the lawn in the summer with a pint.
T. F.
Great pub. Lovely food, really nice staff, Cosy, clean, great location, dog friendly. Love it.
P. F.
A hugely enjoyable supper last evening at the excellent Hand in Hand - the ox cheek pie was totally worth the wait and all other dishes were 1st class & excellent VFM 👏 Additionally the enthusiastic, polite service from all the young staff plus the charismatic landlord Andrew - all makes for a wonderful experience 👍👍👍
M. P.
The truffle chips are good, has vegan options, only missing interesting cocktails.
C. W.
Perfect pub with great food and good service in a good location near Wimbledon Common.
B. H.
Lovely spot for lunch. I think I preferred its "old world charm", pre make-over, as it's now more of a restaurant than a pub, but it's still my favourite pub in the area.
M. L.
Wonderful welcome from Andrew and team, who have gone out of their way to try and ensure a Covid-safe experience for their customers whilst maintaining their characteristically warm welcome.
Food is excellent as always - my firm favourite remains the home-made pies. Great selection of beers, and loads of outside seating available.
This pub is quite possibly my favourite in London - very welcoming, with a wonderful cosy interior and sense of community - a real "village" pub. It is one of the reasons we moved to the neighbourhood!
T. S.
In my view the best pub on Wimbledon Common, the atmosphere, service and food are always top notch.
During COVID they have upped their game with the outdoor bar and making it safe.
Great menu, we had the normal burger (with bacon jam) and also the veggie burger, and a haddock scotch egg to start. The burgers were excellent and triple cooked chips to die for, such an easy thing to get wrong.
Always enjoyed my visits in the winter, and now one of the best pubs in the area. The service is always friendly and professional.
It also has the added benefit of attracting a nice clientele from the local area. Long may it continue to be run in this lovely way.
B. L.
Very nice area with loads off shops an a huge common too explore with your furry four legged friends 😚
S. B.
Great pub...nice atmosphere..good food..and some outdoor seating...well worth a visit
S. P.
First time at a pub for over a year. Walked up after a day at the tennis. Sat outside and had 2 pints of youngs special while i waited for the uber prices to drop. Staff were friendly and chatty beer was excellent. Back soon
L. N.
We love the Hand in Hand! Living in Wimbledon we really are spoilt for choice when it comes to pubs. However, there really is no better than the Hand in Hand. The food, the atmosphere, the service and the people are all amazing. It's also dog friendly, so we never have to worry about leaving our Cavapoo at home. I can't recommend them highly enough, and they have adapted to covid so well - our enjoyment hasn't been compromised in the slightest. Come here for their amazing pies and delicious roasts - you won't be disappointed.
B. T.
Refurbished with a nice big kitchen and disabled access. The friendliest pub in Wimbledon!
I. K.
Nice pub, well organised and maintained, having kept a character. I just didn't like the plastic glasses when seated outside, why ?
H. S.
The food was great with a great menu including delicious vegan options. We all remarked on how great the staff were too, all bright, helpful, friendly and extremely efficient.
We had a really relaxed evening with great atmosphere. We were able to park quite close to the entrance. Loved it and would definitely go back.
Thanks all involved.
R. V.
Very nice local pub with good food and beer selection. Always worth booking to ensure a table.
B. R.
Nice pub with nice outdoor seating area. Lovely food, drink and staff
M. S.
Has a great location with outside seating area on the green, great selection of beer and very traditional pub feel that is rare in London, but the food is very average, which does not match quality feel of the pub.
J. W.
Lovely pub with a covered outdoor seating area. Lovely staff who brought our doggie treats and water. Really tasty vegan croquettes too!
M. D.
A very nice pub with friendly staff and the menu, as ever, is delicious! The steak was tender and the sausages and mash perfect. But please bring back the breaded chicken breast with lemon, which was one of our favourites!
O. A.
Nice pub, great location just on the side of the green. Far to many of the 4 legged friends for my taste. The food was very pricey for the quality served, we had a Sunday roast (chicken, beef, pork belly). Really good layout of the rooms creating corners for semi private dining. Our service was great but the table next had drinks spilled on them which was good entertainment value. Nice selection of drinks.
In response to the content from Hand in Hand around the quality: I must have been unlucky on the day to be served beef with too much fat. I literally had a quarter of my portion left. That aside we had a great time that afternoon and would recommend the pub.
K. J.
Excellent establishment !!!
Friendly staff and excellent beer. Who doesn't love young's bitter I ask you !!!
Keep up the good work and high standards set which better any pub in the area....See you soon
C.
Lovely pub. Was only passing, but it looked too nice to avoid. Once inside we were greeted with a very warm welcome by all the staff we met. Ended up having lunch because the menu looked so appetising. We were correct. Starters and mains (potted crab/ gala pie, Hake and mussels all beautiful. In fact the hake was one of the best we'd tried. Definitely worth a try. So much so we've decided to take a diversion on Friday to come back and try more of the menu. Oh, also a good varied wine list and the Directors ale was perfect
A. G. (. f. R.
Such a lovely pub! Wonderful staff & fabulous food! Cosy in the winter or enjoy a drink outside on the grassed area in Crooked Billet during the summer. This place is a real gem! Bring a hearty appetite. Generous portions - the steak & kidney pie gets my vote every time!
S. H.
I love this pub and the staff. It has a welcoming relaxing atmosphere, a great place to unwind, have a drink and if you want a meal all easy. It is lovely to see dogs and humans chill out together.
The staff are just great! Andrew, his wife and Christine put their heart and soul into the pub ! In my view there is no other pub like it!
Can't wait to see all the renovations.
s. w.
Great food. Really cool little pub and dog friendly too
R. G.
Early Lunch with friends, great service, quality food, generous portions and good value for money!
R. C.
What a lovely homely pub! The customers are quite a mix of ages which is nice. When the weather allows enjoy the large grass area outside. Real quality staff – polite, friendly, eager to please. The meals are appetising and very reasonable priced, the homemade pies are delicious. Just as pubs should be.
N. W.
Did a 5k run on Wimbledon Common and came into the Hand and Hand to rehydrate. Nice pub. Outside space too which is good when the suns out
V.
Lovely place for dinner and drinks, right on the common but set back away from the road unlike other spots. A new regular summer spot! Have the burger
T. C. H.
Perfect.
Friendly and polite welcome, brilliant service, food and ale were top notch.
We actually have food from Brunch menu because we were in time for it, and it was very good indeed. Perfect poached eggs, always a treat.
Thank you very much.
P. B.
Popped in last night for an impromptu drink and stayed for dinner. The recent refurbishment is lovely . A contemporary feel, but retaining much of the character from the old building. Much more space too. The management and staff staff could not be more helpful and friendly (and the locals too).
As for the food: I can absolutely recommend the pies The steak and the chicken were just brilliant ! Looking forward to our next visit already.
S. A. B.
Amazing food, everything on the menu is made from scratch with fresh ingredients and you can really tell.
The staff are super friendly and very helpful. Dog friendly and perfect for a walk on the common.
I would not go anywhere else for classic pub food in south west london.
V. C.
I went to The Hand In Hand last Saturday night with friends for dinner. Firstly, what a beautiful pub. I felt like I was in The Cotswolds. Secondly the Gorgeous and helpful staff. Everyone I spoke to and the lovely girls who looked after us! MOSTLY THE PIE. I shouldn’t really be writing this review as it will stop me getting my hands on the beloved Chicken and Mushroom which I’m still dreaming/drooling about. My new favourite pub in London. Thank you Andrew and Team x
L. B.
Only sat outside so can't comment on inside, but staff were attentive and ready to serve you when needed.
Nice setting in Wimbledon for good outdoor weather
S. B.
Great pub, nice range of guest ales and lovely staff all round. Also great dog friendly pub, with a weather proof outdoor screen for key sports fixtures (however this did not come across as a sports pub - more a very well catered local)
Food was okay, not amazing but certainly edible!
Kitchen was super busy when we went, meaning our food took a long time to come out - drinks and bites on the house kept us happy.
Will be back!
S. M.
Very good food, beer & wine, all at reasonable prices. (For Sunday lunch, I chose roast shoulder of lamb accompanied by profuse amounts of malbec!!).
Staff are friendly & efficient and the pub has a great ambience.
Overall: excellent. Thoroughly recommend
T. D. (.
My not-so-local favourite! If you like dogs then get yourself here as there’s nearly as many 4-legged friends as humans! Super-friendly staff, amazing landlord and chef wife. It’s a genuinely local pub not very far from the middle of London. You won’t be disappointed.
G. M.
Took a party of five for dinner here last night. Beautiful room and a good sized table. The waitress, although not very experienced, was cheerful and worked very hard.
Most importantly, the food was simply outstanding. All five mains were, genuinely, superb.
Not over priced and the staff were all very friendly. Great night. Thanks.
V. M.
A very lovely establishment and atmosphere. Seatings correctly socially distanced. Staff were very attentive, helpful and cheerful. Food was absolutely wonderful and perfectly presented. Menu had a great selection to choose from. Would highly recommend.
P. F.
Really nice vibe to this place, rambling with cubbyholes to sit in and relax. Food excellent and you can always seemingly find a space to chat quietly. The bar is long and with loads of choice but parking is a major challenge around here. I get the impression it's both a good local and a gastropub combined really. I loved it and will be back.
M. T.
I've at the stage of writing this been to a grand total of three pubs in Wimbledon, and I've yet to be disappointed. Hand In Hand was no exception. Sat outside in a quaint courtyard overlooking a small green space, sipping on cider. My burger was great and there were lots of happy dogs around making it a family-friendly spot.
N. M.
32 years ago, and new to London, I was taken to the Hand in Hand for drinks with a couple of friends. I was getting married the following week and we were celebrating. It was Friday and the pub was full of people. A good atmosphere. I went back last Sunday - now living not far from Wimbledon, and it looks the same, well kept and as cozy as ever. We had drinks, but people were having lunch. Same atmosphere. So, yes. I love this pub where dogs are allowed. I will come back to eat and I'll let you know. The Hand in Hand in Wimbledon Village, one of the few gems that hasn't been spoiled with the passing of time.
A. R.
Great selection of food with indoor and outdoor seating. Good for a bit of people watching Wimbledon characters and dog spotting too
d. h.
Always busy and for good reason, very nice pub on the common green 10 min walk from Wimbledon village. Inside and out door seating, serves food. Pub with old world charm and nice staff.
G. B.
Nice place. We were outside and we loved it. The pies are very good and traditional.
L. B.
Staff we're super friendly and attentive. Good atmosphere and dog friendly pub who gladly provided water for the pooch
The 4 of us has a meal and not one was better than OK (everything was bland or greasy). Would not choose to eat again if there was an alternative. The dog enjoyed the meaty left overs tho!
Z.
Food is good. Service is not great. Especially to foreigners.
D. S.
I have never edited or changed a review before.
But now I feel that it's only fair as my feelings has been improved. My former review is still correct in the sense as I'm still as tall and the ceiling is the same high but I must say that the changed and the renovations that has been made is perfect! I feel like I have plenty of space everywhere. So many new open spaces has been created.
Can't say enough about this place!
If you live in the area and enjoy close social environment then this is the place for you!
Love dogs? Then this is a must! Book your table now!
Will without a doubt be this summer's pub!
Been living in the local area for a couple of years and this pub has developed to our go to bar for me, my better half and our 3 dogs! Always left the pub with a smile and a good feeling!
Summertime is superb! Lots of seats in the sun!
Colder temps it tends to get crowded and if you are planning on eating you can get the feeling that it's hard to find a table.
Also being 2m tall ordering a beer comes within a price as the ceiling is super low!
S. P.
Great food, lovely Sunday lunches.. in fact any day, handmade pies are the best I’ve had, menu is really good, food doesn’t disappoint and the staff are efficient and lovely. Dog friendly.
D. C.
Banging place to eat and caters for everyone including pets.
Book a table ladies and gents.
B. W.
Best pub in Wimbledon - hands down! Went there this week for a spontaneous birthday drink. Chris was a super host, knowledgable about what drinks to pair with which dishes, incredibly friendly and delivered on all our quirky requests. Definitely went the extra mile for us and we were super grateful! Just about convinced them to sing us happy birthday too :p Thank you Hand in Hand!!
N. W.
Great location with outside seating opposite a little green. Good beer and food, which is tasty but a tad on the expensive side - though probably worth it.
S. P.
What a makeover! Still maintains the country pub feeling but with an exciting new look and lots more space, open fires, wooden floors, dog friendly and good beer! Some excellent vegan options on the menu and will be back to try them all
P. F.
Very nice pub close to Wimbledon Common.
S. C.
They serve very nice fish & chips. Take care not to trip over any wandering dogs.
M. M.
Cosy pub, dog friendly. Nice atmosphere and service. The pie wasn’t my favourite, the pork was tender like canned tuna but I couldn’t taste any apple sauce. The top of it was in parts nice while the bottom was too soft and I think undercooked. The overall taste was quite bland if not just salty really. The mash was ok while the greens just tasteless.
J. C.
Nice atmosphere, great selection of beers and wines and Sunday lunch was top notch.
They will reject your reservation if you request a highchair even though there were plenty available.
E. J. S.
The quintessential village pub; charming, local, friendly and nestled in a pretty little cul-de-sac surrounded by trees and grassy fields on the edge of Wimbledon Common. On Wednesday night in cracking 32 degree heat, the young staff and kitchen provided a relaxed and well organised atmosphere - COVID safe and sensible- they've still preserved the pub's intimacy which is important. And the food...? Bloody excellent! Whoever was in the kitchen really knew how to mix traditional skills (homemade hollandaise/ perfectly cooked steak) with an element of spice and flair where needed. We shared the buffalo mozarella and fresh tomatoe salad (medley of green, yellow and fresh vine tomatoes with a huge ball of Italian creaminess and fresh basil), just stunning. The Cornish crab was also moist and drenched in a buttery herb flavoured frenchy sauce, really impressive. Each dish, (rib eye, harissa chicken, home made pie) was memorable for its fresh flavours and gorgeous colourful presentation. We were all excitedly sharing our dishes and analysing just how good our meal was. Thanks to you all for a really impressive team effort. Bang on.
J. E.
Nice pub with a good atmosphere but although good quality food was unimpressive, my confit of duck was so small i reckon it had been starved first. Since i don't eat carbs, they obviously couldn't hide it with cheap chips so not a bargain for £18! Shame as otherwise a 5 star pub.
G. L.
Lovely pub next to common with rather lovely and friendly staff. Thank you.
D. F.
Staying with our daughter who lives in Wimbledon for christmas. Went for a walk on christmas (2019) morning and popped to the pub. Thought we would be the only ones there!! It was very busy, both inside and out. Great staff. Great atmosphere. Everyone so friendly. To suit all ages. A perfect day. A perfect pub. We shall be back. Dave from Worcester.

I go to this pub regularly as my network groups holds meetings there, but last week I went at an earlier time than usual for a drink and then a bite to eat. I ordered the Allotment Pie which was amazingly tasty and my friend had the fish and chips which was an enormous portion and also very good. The Hand has a lovely atmosphere and everyone is welcome there, especially 4-legged companions. If I had one thing that could be improved, it's the variety of soft drinks. Yes, they have all the usual ones, coke, OJ, etc but none of the more unusual and lovely soft drinks that are available in some Young's pubs, such as elderflower, mint, cucumber, rhubarb, etc. The wine list is good however and everything else is great, so that's a small point.
R. M.
Lovely warm atmosphere and friendly staff and people.
A.
It's a nice pub. Cozy atmosphere, pleasant service. The food is average though. Had the pork hock pie with Bramley apple and could hardly taste any apple inside. Pork was overly salty and nothing special and the accompanying veg tasteless.
G.
Very friendly pub and Manager was very welcoming. We had the beef pie, it was so tasty and fresh!
K. M.
Lovely pub, good pints. The only thing that lets them down is that they don’t bother removing used plates and glasses from tables so you are sat amongst dirty stuff from previous customers, even when we asked one of the staff (at least this was the experience in the outdoor area on Sunday)
J. M.
Nice old pub, but very poor attention to detail on the food. Ordered bone marrow on toast, the bone marrow was served ice cold, so cold it was like ice cream and impossible to spread on the very lightly toasted bread. Don't put items on the menu if you are going to serve them at a temperature that renders them inedible.
J. B.
I believe this pub won Dog friendly pub of the year in 2016 and was voted top of all dog friendly pubs by dog owners in London in 2017. I’ve met the staff and chatted with regulars a few times and they’re so friendly and crazy about dogs. It’s a proper country pub but within a short dog walk of London! Good beer and tasty food too which certainly helps!
M. K.
A wonderful refurbishment of this traditional public house. Lots of nooks and crannies to enjoy a relaxed cozy atmosphere. Staff are friendly and efficient and the food is absolutely bang on. The staff and management are obviously doing a great job. We are definitely looking forward to returning.
S. S.
Incredible pies, great traditional pub, brilliant owner. Dog friendly. Best pub in SW London
g. m.
First time at this proper traditional English pub! A traditional hostelry tucked away in Wimbledon's suburbia ! A lovely welcome from both bar staff and a very warm hello from Andrew the landlord! The ambience wrapping around both myself and my friend as we walked in making us very comfortable and welcome!
It has a traditional old fashioned style of customer service that is rarely seen these days!
We were seen to our table followed quickly with a lovely pint of Bitter and a cold glass of Sauvignon! I ordered dressed crab and my friend a mackerel pate both with toast! For the main course I had possibly the best steak and kidney pie and veg that I have ever been presented! Glazed, gorgeous and very filling! Absolutely brimming with meat and loveliness! My friend had a beautiful piece of Hake and crushed new potatoes with veg! Again I was assured that was also very tasty!
On the whole I wish I lived within walking/ staggering distance but alas I dont!
But I will return to a public house that I am proud to say that I have frequented!
Well done Andrew and his team!
A damn good job!
J. J.
Lovely Wimbledon Common pub, feels like you are in the country Various indoor and outdoor seating and dog friendly too. Good selection of wines and a nice food menu. My favourite Wimbledon pub
C. S.
Ordered 2 roasts, they were nice enough and a good size but both came luke warm and the gravy was tasteless and watery. Crackling on the pork also wasnt crispy which was a shame. We went at lunchtime so it was very busy which could have been why a few details were missed but it was definitely an underwhelming experience.
E. R.
This place is very handy as it is very near the common, maybe a 2 or 3 minute walk down the road. During the evenings it can get quite busy so I would recommend booking, but there are usually 1 or 2 unreserved tables. The food quality is very good, but I didn't get my meal for around 40- 45 minutes. However, it was a very busy night and the food was of the highest standard.🍽🍴👍
N. K.
Went for lunch. Salt beef sandwich was good... Not the best I've had but more than good enough for me to go back again and order the same. And the chips, though a small portion, we yummy and more than enough having eaten the sandwich first! Staff were friendly as was the landlord.
J. D.
Excellent refurb.
Splendid loos.
Mushy peas were a let down. They were just normal peas bashed with a fork.
Bar staff always seem to change... maybe a uniform would disguise this issue.
Always a jolly atmosphere.
Burger and fries... no relish for the burger.. fries are like McDonald's (not a bad thing).. salad in burger seemed like yesterday's salad.. burger was tasty and light.. could do with some tomato, cucumber and coleslaw on the side.
Cutlery at the bottom of the salt and pepper box.. not very hygienic. Perhaps staff could go round periodically sorting this out.
Always good beer.
Overall, a great pub with a few minor issues that could easily be resolved.
S. J.
I love coming to this cheerful pub off Wimbledon Common when I venture to Wimbledon Village. It has a particularly pleasant outdoor seating area, with a rather continental feel. Inside, it is clean, well furnished and traditional with comfortable chairs etc. Lovely wine, too!
The only negative comment I'd make is that they supply The Sun as a newspaper one can read (as well as other papers); imo, it'd be better to supply broadsheets only, as very few people here want to read silly tabloids, nor should it be encouraged.
Overall, though, a wonderful pub. I'll be back!
S. H.
Sitting on the green on deck chairs enjoying a beer or two, not a bad experience, when the sun is out.
D. W.
Nice place to sit out and have a drink but £6 for a pint of cider is to much.
a. h.
Cosy atmosphere, super child and dog friendly pub serving excellent food! 5 star service, friendly staff. Great place for Sunday lunch - definitely recommend the Vegan Roast!!!
E. N.
The food is absolutely delicious, the ambiance is lovely, the personnel is fantastic. What else can be said? My 3 years old just loves their fish & chips and can't go there without asking for it.... And he is right!
D. R.
Great service, delicious food and best ale I've had. Thank you Andrew for teaching me a few things I didn't know about ale. Hopefully see you again soon
E. L.
Lovely place with great potential. We order food and I think we ruined the waitress day by doing so. I am sorry we asked for a fork to eat our food.
Lack of service aside, the place looks great, good atmosphere and a real pub feel. The menu is simple, but has a few more iteresting specials. The range on draught is not impressive but has a goid section of real ales.
I hope to be able to add the other 2 stars in my next visit
P. P.
Always a good selection of real ale on offer.
D. S.
Nice pub, good atmosphere and friendly bar staff. It loses stars as the chicken pie I ordered, the pie itself was beautiful but the side of mash was inedible (looked and felt like it was made of plastic and microwaved)
P. K.
Good selection of ales, wines, lagers, ciders and soft drinks. It's a rustic, homely, shabby type of pub with no frills, full of Wimbledon Common dog walkers. The food is standard pub grub, nothing too fancy. A classic British boozer with fun, friendly staff in a lovely part of town.
C. E.
My favourite pub. However revised menu is pretty poor for a vegetarian. Over reliance on mushrooms for vegetarians is a bit 80s,until the menu get up to date it means I can't give it 5 out of 5.
T. P.
Great service. The heaters were so nice and warm! They are doing a fantastic job with handling the covid restrictions:)
J. M.
Loverly pub, with really friendly staff. Perfect after a walk around the common. First day back after the Lockdown and feels very well run and safe... and the fish and chips are spot on
D. B.
One of my favourite pubs of all time. Great atmosphere, good selection at the bar and a perfect location. Great cosy place for winter, and a lovely grassy area to chill for summer.
T. J.
a lovely little pub which I have never visited before. Comfortable seating outside, which is where we sat. Fast service, friendly staff, and well worth a visit. There is also a grassy area outside the pub where one can sit and enjoy the sunshine.
D. J.
A lovely boozer for everyone. If you're a twenty something, a young family or a family with a canine, this is the pub for you. Nice relaxed atmosphere serving good food and beer. What more would anyone want?
A. V.
Very pleasant pub with outdoor sitting available. Haven't tried the food yet but the ventilation system is excellent so if you're there for the drinks only there is no overwhelming smell of cooking
A. K.
One of my first and favorite pubs in London. Charming, dog-freindly little cottage pub feel to it. Right near Wimbledon Commons.
Inside is a nice fireplace for during the winter, with a comfortable reading area.
In the summer there is a open green area out the front, where people and families gather with their drinks and sometimes sunbathe!
C. B.
Amazing experience as always! Super dog friendly, really nice staff and fabulous food
M. H.
Great pub - we had a meeting here and were treated very well. Ended the night here (not planned but we were having a good time!). A pleasant evening all round 👍😁
J. B.
Friendly place with an eclectic mix of people. Great in the summer when you can sit out on the green in the deck chairs. Updated: this place has recently undergone a massive refurb. Everything from the menu to the decor and the staff uniform has taken a huge leap forward to the point I can no longer sit at my usual table.Everything about this pub, it's history, cosy, casual atmosphere, new nooks and crannies is just too much. It is still a proper pub which is a credit to the team running it every day and those that considerately made the changes happen. Now we just need all the new punters to go somewhere else on a Thursday so I can get my seat back. Thank you.
C. S.
Great doggie friendly pub with a good vibe. Disappointing pricey food though. They seem to serve old regular customers before anyone else waiting at the bar which is very rude indeed
S. S. B.
A great example of how a local pub can be updated without losing its original charm. This remains a firm local favourite with a good range of beers and a great 'country' atmosphere. Dogs welcome making it perfect after a walk on the neighbouring common or just a cosy place to spend an evening. Look and learn, Fox & Grapes!
M. D.
Excellent staff , great service and excellent food
D. T.
The Sunday roast is amazing!
H. N.
Relaxed, warm, friendly and welcoming outdoor atmosphere as I enjoyed a lovely lunch with friends. Will definitely return!
M. C.
Cosy 'village' pub with a good selection of local beers and friendly staff. Didn't eat this time, but the mood music from others who were was good. Interesting fact from barman; Grappa and honey makes for a nice drink. Who'd a thought.
T. M.
Best pub on the common in my opinion. Great staff and atmosphere every time.
Thanks and see you again soon!
K. W.
Excellent food, service and atmosphere.
P. H.
Most normal pub atmosphere post lockdown. Substantial menu, amazing food and great service. Dogs also very welcome 👍
J. R.
Great pub, wonderful atmosphere and adorable staff. Thanks so much.
P.
Lovely pub to visit whatever the season. Be warned that it can get very busy. From my experience the staff are very lovely. The service is rapid.
N.
alwaysgo to the hand in hand food is amazing especially the pies and fish and chips but this time I'm reviewing for JC he was great and knows his whisky good banter and very knowledgeable about his job too guy ..
M. R.
A lovely little bolt hole, the food is slightly overpriced for what it is, but it’s a nice casual dining and drinking place. And it’s very dog friendly too, which is always a plus!
P. C.
Pleasant enough pub on the corner of Wimbledon. Only stayed for a pint. The staff were friendly and efficient. The facilities were what you would expect.
There are plenty of tables and chairs out front.
H. J.
Went here randomly post race thought it looked really cute. We weren't disappointed food was amazing lovely Sevice, staff and atmosphere and the cutest dogs ever! We will be back 🤩
M. L.
Nice pub but I little bit too posh atmosphere for my taste, if you like posh pubs this is a great choice tho. Great beers, lovely decoration, excellent polite service.
P. B.
Friendly welcome & service on a wet afternoon. Great food (home made pies are exquisite), fine range of local and national ales. Great place to spend 4 hours!
S. N.
Nice cosy pub that has a good selection of beer and ales and also does great food! Has a lovely atmosphere and friendly staff that made us feel welcome.
W. F.
A comfy gastro pub on the edge of Wimbledon Common. Great food, good range of beers and wines. Family and dog friendly with a cosy fire in cold weather.
Y. F. P.
Great local pub. The food is incredible, and the IPA selections were excellent.
I will definitely be coming back with the family.
A. B.
Fish and chips is home made, fresh and one of the best in the area. John (waiter) was friendly and made the meal enjoyable!
J. C.
Visited for pie and beer tasting, which became a performance led by the charismatic landlord. Warm and welcoming pub with excellent food and ales. Highly recommended.
A. C.
Having worked for Youngs the head office many years ago, I never visited the hand in hand. I am so glad to have come to have a large glass or two of the Malbec with my local friend. Thank you for such a peaceful, friendly pub. Such serenity.
K. N.
Very lovely pub, brilliant for family's ,very good food and lovely staff .Andrew the manager is very friendly and helpful, would definitely recommend.
J. H.
It's a decent enough pub, nice decor inside and a good selection of beer and wine. Food is not too bad but a bit pricey (well, probably not for London....)
N. O.
I love this place, particularly on a Sunday. Local people and their dogs/kids/grandparents/friends. Great atmosphere and food. More than lovely waitstaff.
L. S.
ok food friendly staff nice outdoors seats
g. p.
The common room (and probably the whole pub) needs a good upgrade.
Beer choice is ok but a bit overpriced.
The food was good.
Overall OK but would rather go to the crooked billet next door.
b. p.
Nice pub, good atmosphere, gets busy.
D. K.
i have just been recently and the atmosphere of the pub is very nice and drink selection good, but the food is less than average at a price where you can buy very nice food elsewhere. We had a side salad and even had diarrhea afterwards, so for us this is strictly drinks only.
M. B.
Really nice food and drinks. Cozy atmosphere and dog-friendly place!
R. N.
Good food, excellent menu, impressive, bright service and obviously good management. Enjoyed our lunch for 8 very much. They deserve to do well.
J. R.
Hands down one of the nicest pubs I have been to. Dog friendly, fantastic service. Full of staff and food is brilliant.
P. B. K.
It was ok, we had their burgers, nothing special, average I'd say.
C. T.
Fantastic pub with a great atmosphere, consistently excellent food, and consistently excellent ales and wines. The service can be excellent, too, but not consistently.
L. S.
Always served by friendly, helpful staff. Good selection of ales & most important, welcomes four legged 'customers' with dog beers available. Gets my vote everytime.
M. T.
Very unique pub, dog friendly and cozy. The food are ok, also for the drink. Always busy but a nice stop in Wimbledon.
R. W.
Why there are two Young's pubs this close to one another I don't know - I'm sure there's an interesting story there somewhere. Approaching from the east it took me well over a year to actually discover The Crooked Billet two doors further down. For a while ignorance was bliss, on warm days the punters spill out onto the little green surrounded by their pet dogs. The Hand in Hand is perhaps the better summer pub with The Crooked Billet being better for the other 95% of the time. It's still a great little boozer and the locals in this area have been spoilt, lucky buggers.
D. B.
Cosy little pub and beautiful outside. Food is delicious and they have a decent variety of beers available! It gets busy so get there early!
M. H.
Perfect cosy pub, great atmosphere, friendly staff and customers (and dogs), good range of ales, great food in huge portions, really couldn’t ask for a better pub.
t. t.
Good food. Tasty beer. A bit worn around the edges but that adds to its charm. Dog friendly meant for good people- (& their pooches-) watching!
P. H.
Great local pub with a country feel. Good inside and outside seating
G. D.
Lovely dog friendly pub. Excellent selection of beer and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Friendly staff and tasty, good value grub
T. A.
We had the best roast here today. Great portion and exceptional quality. Highly recommended!
D. B. (.
Great when the suns out with outside tables and chairs, reasonable selection of beers/ales/lagers etc, but could do better with the food. Have eaten there a few times hoping it would get better, but I go there for the location and outdoor space not the food!
M. D.
Friendly landlord and staff, excellent beer, good food, and a quaint little common on which to drink in the summer. Who could ask for more? The quintessential Young's pub.
M. D.
A great place for a drink with dogs. Friendly staff and good beer. Dogs are very well catered for too, they can even order their own special brew
T. G.
Sandwich was good value, and beer selection was choice
T. N.
Classic country pub on the edge of Wimbledon Common. Great feel to the place inside, in the outdoor seating, or on one of the deck chairs out on the grass.
B. M.
Great quick service. And thr staff were friendly, shame they don't have more outdoor seating
J. C.
Excellent coffee and a well kept pint of beer. Come by bus or bike or walk because parking is £3 per hour, and in short supply.
C. R.
Excellent veggie burgers, chicken and leek pies, decent service and outdoor seating area great for summer time. It does get a bit crowded on weekend evenings/quiz night evenings though.
J. W.
Has to be one of the nicest pubs in London. Absolutely love coming here. The staff are great, and the dogs are welcome!
R. C.
Really nice through out, started to rain and the umbrellas came out quickly. Would definitely come back
A. B.
Great country-esk pub recently refurbed in still olde style. Very attentive in pub owner Andrew is the host every great pub needs!👌🏻🏆 Great mulled wine too!
G. A.
One of those hidden gems of a pub that you'll never discover unless you're local or have your heart set on exploring an area. Even then, you may miss the Hand In Hand, tucked away next door to the Crooked Billet at the bottom corner of Wimbledon Common.
This being Wimbledon Village, you'll see a lot of country casual Tweets and even tennis whites, but don't let that put you off. In the summer, the Common remains one of the best places to enjoy a pint outside on a warm summer's evening, while the Hand In Hand is so cosy, you'll be perfectly happy to curl up in a corner with a pint of any of the numerous real ales behind the bar.
There's a very decent menu as well (duck on lentils is a highlight) with a tasty roast on Sundays. It's the kind of pub you could happily spend a few hours losing track of time or to take your parents for Sunday lunch. With the equally nice Crooked Billet next door, residents on Wimbledon Common are rather spoilt for choice for places to drink.
N. P.
Such a nice atmosphere! You can seat outside with your drink and have a lovely afternoon/evenings!
j. m.
Nice during summertime. Didn't try the food but menu looked good. Relatively expensive. Central London prices. Its only Wimbledon!
D. A.
Lovely building. If it's busy you may have to shout to staff to order. After waiting at the bar and being ignored several times I passed on food.
T. H.
It's a lovely eclectic pub, friendly staff and the food looks great and you can take your furry friends too. 🐶 🐾
J. E.
Great food. Great location. Friendly staff.
M. L.
Good pint of Ordinary Bitter.
R. S.
Great pub right on the common. Deck chairs outside on the lawn in the summer. Never eaten here but the food looks good.
S. u.
Great garden outdoor area out back that opens from the living room. classy and well appointed interior. like a living room. also serves Wimbledon Brewery beer.
A. R.
Food has only gone up in quality over the years. Staff are incredibly attentive and drinks selection is varied. Can sit on the common in good weather if you're fine with plastic cups.
J. M.
Delicious pies. Great service & lovely staff. Lovely cosy pub. But a little pricey.
T. J.
Opening night so we must make allowances for the very slow service. Having said that the pie was worth waiting for. May I suggest that if you know service is going to be slow let your patrons know. We will be back.
P. G.
Friendly team in great location, with wonderful atmosphere and good cask ales.
L. V.
Cosy and friendly. A true local. Dog friendly and excellent food
E.
Love this place. Great location, amazing food, wonderful homely atmosphere. The vegetarian roast is a bit carb-heavy though
A. M.
Nice country pub feel, good way to round off a stroll around Wimbledon Common. Very much a family crowd when we went over the weekend.
J. A.
Friendly staff + always welcoming to my dog Phyllis. Great pint of Guinness + lunch was delicious.
g. s.
Great quality food
D. C.
Well kept beers and an excellent pie of the day. If offered chips, avoid. Otherwise , a really great pub with friendly and efficient staff.
J. h.
Lovely pub. Nice food at reasonable prices for London. Weekend afternoons in the sun are particular fun. Recommend.
A. V.
Very pleasant pub with outdoor sitting available. Haven't tried the food yet but the ventilation system is excellent so if you're there for the drinks only there is no overwhelming smell of cooking
M. D.
A great place for a drink with dogs. Friendly staff and good beer. Dogs are very well catered for too, they can even order their own special brew
M. M.
Cosy pub, dog friendly. Nice atmosphere and service. The pie wasn’t my favourite, the pork was tender like canned tuna but I couldn’t taste any apple sauce. The top of it was in parts nice while the bottom was too soft and I think …
W. W.
It's a little oasis of coolness if you ask us. Great food and drink stop off.
a. h.
Cosy atmosphere, super child and dog friendly pub serving excellent food! 5 star service, friendly staff. Great place for Sunday lunch - definitely recommend the Vegan Roast!!!

G. D.
Lovely dog friendly pub. Excellent selection of beer and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Friendly staff and tasty, good value grub

Great doggie friendly pub with a good vibe. Disappointing pricey food though. They seem to serve old regular customers before anyone else waiting at the bar which is very rude indeed
S.
Nice local pub with a village like feel. However I wouldn't l label either of the starters I tasted gastro worthy
J. K.
Lovely cosy pub next to the common.

Great countryside pub in London

Not quite the same drinking outside in the winter, but there are few better places to do it.

S. B.
It's ok, nice pub the food is pretty uninspiring and the side veg was mean or missing
J. G.
Went for a Sunday roast. The food wasn't the best quality for the price, you pay for the location
J. R.
The best and busiest pub on the common, great atmosphere and excellent selection of beers, 5⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
J. M.
The 2019 refurb is spot on. Smart yet cosy. Great beer, great location, great pub

Food isn't great but location is brilliant, staff are lovely and has so much more character than the place next door
J. R.
It's all about the pies here.
B. R.
The new refurbishment is amazing! Expanding the seating and improving the light, whilst keeping the charm and coziness of the old version
R. M.
Great food and great service, quite busy outside though
J. H.
Nice olde pub, nice outdoor area overlooking the green, good beer range.
M. A.
Lovely pub with great food, outdoor space and deck chairs.
C. H.
Decent food, turned up quickly. Friendly staff. Not the cheapest, but in this part of the world, that's hardly unexpected.
C. W.
Good because it's dog friendly. Not so good because a pint of shandy cost me £5.
